MY 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAS DEVELOPED A LOUD WHINING SOUND FROM UNDER THE HOOD AT A COLD START AND CONTINUING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. THE NOISE IS PRESENT WHEN SITTING STILL WITH THE WHEELS STRAIGHT BUT GETS WORSE WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TRANSMISSION HOSE WAS REPLACED ON THE POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD AN OIL LEAK AND TWO CLAMPS FOR THE POWER STEERING LINE WAS REPLACE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63000.
I OWN A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH APPROX 40K, I HAVE NEVER HAD DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS WHICH SEEMS ODD BUT MY MAIN COMPLAINT IS ONE OF MY POWER SLIDING DOORS WONT OPEN WHEN I PRESS THE BUTTON ON MY KEY OR THE BUTTON ON THE DASH, IT SEEMS TO NOT BE UNLOCKING. IF YOU MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE AND THEN PRESS THE BUTTON THEN THE DOOR OPENS FINE. I SEE NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE ON LINE WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WHICH MAKES ME WONDER WHY DODGE HAS DONE NOTHING. *TR
REAR SIDE POWER DOORS BEGAN TO NOT OPEN, CLOSE OR LOCK PROPERLY. IT STARTED OUT AS INTERMITTENT AND WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY BUT WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. CURRENTLY THE DOORS ONLY OPEN, CLOSE AND LOCK UNLOCK MANUALLY. WITH THE STUCK AUTOMATIC DOOR - THE DOOR REQUIRES EXCESS FORCE TO MANUALLY OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR. AT TIMES, THE DOOR CAN BE OPEN AND THE DOOR OPEN LIGHT DOES NOT REGISTER IT TO BE OPEN. THE CURRENT SITUATION STILL EXISTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT, RED AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE DEALER STATED IT WAS CORRODED TERMINALS IN CONNECTORS, NEEDS RIGHT SENSOR AND CONNECTOR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS 38,706 MILES ON IT. I SEE A NEW NHTSA ACTION RQ09003. THE COST OF FIXING THIS WAS $114.34 AND I WANT IT BACK. NO OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE SINCE I DIDN'T THINK OF IT WHEN I GOT IT FIXED. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND THE SLIDING DOORS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY, THE SLIDING DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL WITH THE CONTROL BUTTON OR THE REMOTE, YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY OPEN AND CLOSE IT BUT THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WILL OPEN WITH THE BUTTON SOMETIMES, BUT WILL NOT STOP ONCE OPENED, IT WILL CLOSE RIGHT BACK (A COUPLE OF TIMES IT ALMOST CLOSED ON MY KIDS GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE CAR). I BOUGHT THE CAR FOR THE EASE OF THE SLIDING DOORS, BUT NOW I CAN'T EVEN USE THEM. I'M WORRIED THAT ONE OF MY CHILDREN CAN GET CAUGHT IN THE DOOR AND GET SERIOUSLY INJURED AS THE DOOR DOES NOT STOP ONCE IN MOTION. *TR
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ON REAR SLIDING DOORS WITH POWERED DOOR CLOSURES. THE CAM THAT ALLOWS THE DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK CIRCUIT TO COMPLETE GETS OUT OF POSITION AND BLOCKS THE LOCK/UNLOCK FROM OCCURRING. HAPPENS WHENEVER AN OBJECT BLOCKS THE DOOR FROM CLOSING. DOOR WILL NOT LOCK/UNLOCK VIA BUTTONS FOR 16 ATTEMPTS IN A ROW, REGARDLESS OF TIME BETWEEN INTERRUPT AND ATTEMPT TO LOCK/UNLOCK. COULD HAMPER VEHICLE EVACUATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; IT WAS REPLACED AT THAT TIME. THE CONTACT SENT THE MANUFACTURER A LETTER BUT RECEIVED NO CORRESPONDENCE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. PASSENGER WEIGHT SENSOR DEFECTIVE CAUSING AIR BAG TO BE ACTIVE WHEN UNDERWEIGHT PERSON OR LIGHT OBJECT IN SEAT. AIR BAG WILL DISCHARGE POTENTIALLY CAUSING INJURY TO CHILD OR SMALL ADULT OR FIRING WHEN NOT REQUIRED. *TR
AIR CONDITIONING FAILED AROUND 50,000 MILES. HAD SYSTEM RECHARGED AND STARTED TO FAIL AGAIN IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. BY THAT TIME, WEATHER STARTED TO BECOME COLD. BY 80,000 MILES (FOLLOWING SUMMER), TOLD THAT THE REAR AIR EVAPORATOR PART WAS LEAKING AND WHILE DODGE DID NOT "RECALL" THE PART, THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANT TO I THINK - 75,000 MILES. THE PART TOOK ABOUT 2 MONTHS TO COME IN AND COST OVER $1,600 TO INSTALL. I WAS NEVER GIVEN NOTICE OF THE "EXTENDED WARRANTY." DRIVER SIDE AUTOMATIC DOOR NO LONGER WORKS FOR THE SECOND TIME (FIRST AROUND 50,000 SECOND TIME AROUND 75,000). RACK AND PINION NEEDED REPLACEMENT AROUND 90,000 MILES. THAT COST AROUND $1,500. FUEL GAUGE IS ABOUT 1/4 TANK OFF IN THE BAD DIRECTION. CAN NO LONGER TRUST GAUGE UNDER HALF A TANK. PAINT STARTED TO PEEL AND METAL UNDERNEATH RUST AROUND 50,000 MILES. *TR
POWER STEERING ON VEHICLE ALWAYS MAKES A WHINNING NOISE. MY NEIGHBOR HAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL AND HE SAYS THAT THE DEALER SAID THE POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR IS UNDERSIZED FOR THIS VEHICLE. IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS COMPLAINT ABOUT THE POWER STEERING HAVING NOISE AND HARD TO TURN? I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED AND IT HAS ALWAYS MADE THIS NOISE. *TR
TURN SIGNAL SWITCH SIGNALS THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION CHOSEN FREQUENTLY USUALLY WHEN TURNING RIGHT. *TR
2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT. SLIDING DOORS ARE INCONSISTENT WITH OPERATION AND CREATE CONCERN FOR A QUICK EXIT IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. THE SLIDING PASSENGER DOORS EITHER WILL NOT OPEN WITH THE REMOTE KEY SET OR WILL NOT OPEN ENTIRELY WITH ANY OF THE DOOR RELEASE BUTTONS ON THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS IMPACTED BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOORS. INABILITY TO OPEN THESE DOORS WITHOUT SUPPORT OF AN ADULT HAS CREATED CONCERN FOR A QUICK EXIT IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION FOR ALL PASSENGERS. TO OPEN THESE DOORS WITHOUT SUPPORT OF THE AUTOMATIC DOOR OPENING SYSTEM IS ALSO VERY HARD. THE DOORS ARE HEAVY AND OFTEN TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO HOLD THE (BLACK) RELEASE BUTTON DOWN TO OPEN THE DOOR(S). MY CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO DO THIS ON THEIR OWN DUE TO THIS MECHANICAL FAILURE. THE BUTTON WHICH YOU SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PUSH AND AUTOMATICALLY OPEN THE DOORS (FROM EITHER THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT OR THE BACK TWO REAR PASSENGER BUTTONS ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL). FROM MY RESEARCH, OF THE DODGE MINI-VANS, I'M FINDING THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS RESEARCHED TO DETERMINE THE NEED FOR SAFETY RECALL ACTION. IF A 9 YEAR OLD CHILD AND CHILDREN IN THEIR EARLY TEENS CANNOT OPEN THESE DOORS ON THEIR OWN, THIS PRESENTS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN 2006 AND 3 YEARS LATER, THE PROBLEM STARTED IMPACTING BOTH DOORS. I WILL ATTEMPT TO BRING THE MINIVAN INTO DODGE TO INSPECT BUT THE INFORMATION I'VE GATHERED HAS PROVEN INCONSISTENT OUTCOMES WITH DEALER REPAIRS AND EVEN MORE CONCERNING, AN INABILITY TO FIX THIS ISSUE ON A PERMANENT BASIS. *TR
RACK AND PINION LEAKING FLUID FROM RUBBER BOOT AND NEEDS REPLACED; MECHANIC SAID VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2006 GRAND CARAVANS WITH OVER 40,000 MILES. HAS REPLACED MORE THAN HE CARES TO ADMIT. OF COURSE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND PART IS ON BACK ORDER? MUST REALLY HAPPEN ALOT WHEN THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER, MAYBE TIME FOR A RECALL. *TR
I GOT UP AND WENT OUT TO START THE VAN AND NOTICED A AWFUL WHINING SOUND I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION I TOLD THEM I JUST BOUGHT THIS VAN.THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND FIND OUT IF THERE IS A RECALL ON IT. HE SAID THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THIS VAN AND THE PART IS PROBABLY ON BACK ORDER. SO MY QUESTION IS IF IT KNOWN FOR THIS PROBLEM WHY WOULD A DEALER SELL ME THIS VAN KNOWING I HAVE A FAMILY OF SIX. I DID TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER IM STILL WAITING FOR THEM TO CALL ME BACK AND LET ME NOW WHAT'S GOING ON. 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE USING ANY METHOD: POWER BUTTONS, KEYLESS REMOTE OR MANUALLY PULLING LOCK KNOB. ALL OTHER DOORS AND LOCKS FUNCTION AS NORMAL. THE PROBLEM BEGAN APPROXIMATELY 1 WEEK AGO BUT WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER POSTINGS ON FIXYA.COM WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON CARAVAN MODEL. *TR

THE PASSENGER SLIDER DOOR'S POWER LOCK IS NOT WORKING WITH THE REMOTE OR WITH THE LOCK SWITCH. *TR
2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT..................AIRBAG LIGHT ON ALL THE TIME. HAD TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES........LAST TIME THEY SAID THEY REPLACED A PART. LIGHT CAME BACK ON THE NEXT DAY AND HAS BEEN ON EVER SINCE................SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. AM TAKING MY GRANDCHILDREN ON A 2,000 TRIP JUNE 1ST AND WANT IT FIXED BY THEN, BUT LOOKS LIKE THE RECALL WON'T EVEN GO OUT UNTIL JUNE. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT AND WERE "INVESTIGATING" THIS PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT, BUT IF I DO ..........I WANT THE AIRBAG TO WORK PROPERLY!!! *TR
THE 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAS 33,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD AN AIRBAG LIGHT COME ON. THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY SO BROUGHT IT TO A DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE IMPACT SENSORS HAD CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED IN NOVEMBER OF 08. I FELT THAT IT WAS UNUSUAL FOR THE SENSORS TO GO BAD WITH SO FEW MILES THAT I STARTED TO INQUIRE ABOUT IT. I DISCOVERED NHTSA INVESTIGATION NUMBER EA06003 AND SUBSEQUENT RECALL NUMBER 07V-192. THESE WERE NOT MENTIONED DURING THE VISIT. I THEN HAD MY FIANCE CONTACT CHRYSLER'S CUSTOMER SERVICE TO REPORT THIS AND GET THE VAN FIXED. WHEN THEY WERE ASKED TO FIX THE VAN THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER COSTS. I FEEL THAT THE RECALL / PROBLEM POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK SINCE THE AIRBAGS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE RECALL INVOLVES MORE VEHICLE THAN CHRYSLER IS OWNING UP TO, OR THEY ARE NOT CONFORMING TO THE ORIGINAL AGREEMENT IN THE ACTION REPORT MENTIONED ABOVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A WHINING SOUND, ESPECIALLY IN COLDER TEMPERATURES, AND DISTRACT THE CONCENTRATION OF THE DRIVER. SHE STATED THAT THE NOISE WAS LOUD ENOUGH TO CAUSE A CONCERN. THE NOISE OCCURRED EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND WOULD INTENSIFY WHEN MAKING TURNS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. SHE HAS SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER, BUT HAS NOT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
MY 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH ONLY 42,000 MILES HAS DEVELOPED A POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK. REPAIR SHOP SAYS STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HAVE NOT HAD THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR DONE AS YET. SEEMS TO BE A UNIVERSAL CHRYSLER PROBLEM, NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS OF SAME AUTOMOBILE HAVE INDICATED THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAS INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH HEADLIGHTS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY (WILL NOT TURN ON, OR MAY GO OFF WHILE DRIVING, OR MAY FLICKER WHILE DRIVING). THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES BECAUSE IT IS INTERMITTENT AND DRIVER CAN NOT ALWAYS TELL IF LIGHTS ARE OUT WHILE DRIVING. CAR IS USED FREQUENTLY AND PROBLEMS OCCUR AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. DODGE SERVICE RECOMMENDED REPLACING FRONT CONTROL MODULE AND POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE ($900 PARTS AND LABOR) BUT COULD NOT PROMISE THIS WOULD CORRECT THE ISSUE SO NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE TO DATE. *TR
WHEN DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS, PARTICULARLY SPLASHING THROUGH WATER, THE VEHICLE SERPENTINE BELT BEGINS TO CHATTER AND THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES A BRIEF REDUCTION/LOSS OF POWER. THIS BECOMES PARTICULARLY TROUBLESOME WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE STATED THAT THERE IS NO MECHANICAL DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE THAT THEY CAN FIND. THIS HAPPENS ON REPEATED OCCASIONS AND CAN BE REPRODUCED EVEN TODAY. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR SOME TIME NOW. *TR
BRAKES APPEARED TO BE GOING OUT IN VEHICLE. HAD SERVICE TECHNICIAN CHECK AND BELIEVE TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT. FOUND OUT SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THIS VEHICLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSIONS BETWEEN 60,000 AND 80,000 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A HUMMING SOUND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE HUMMING SOUND OCCURRED EVERYTIME THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WEARING BEFORE THE BRAKE PADS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED HIM TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,800 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,200. UPDATED 12/22/08. *LJ UPDATED 12/23/08. *JB
I SUBMITTED THIS COMPLAINT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICED MY VEHICLE. I WORRY THAT THERE COULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I OWN A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT. IN THE PAST YEAR, I HAVE BROUGHT IT INTO DODGE CITY OF MILWAUKEE FOR TWO SERVICE APPOINTMENTS, ONE IN WINTER 2007 AND ANOTHER IN SPRING 2008. DURING BOTH VISITS, I COMPLAINED OF AN PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING SYSTEM. ON SHARP LEFT TURNS, THE VAN OFTEN MAKES A "PULSING" OR "HOWLING" SOUND. ON BOTH OCCASIONS, DODGE CITY OF MILWAUKEE FIXED SOMETHING IN THE STEERING SYSTEM, BUT THE SOUND NEVER WENT AWAY. EARLIER TODAY, AS I WAS PULLING INTO THE ALLEY BEHIND MY HOUSE, THE CAR'S STEERING SUDDENLY FROZE AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I AM NOT SURE OF THE REASON FOR THIS, BUT IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY TRAFFIC, OR IF I WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH SPEED, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. I CHECKED THE OIL, WHICH WAS A BIT LOW BUT STILL IN THE NORMAL RANGE (I ALSO COMPLAINED ON BOTH VISITS THAT THE CAR LOSES OIL QUICKLY AND WAS ASSURED BY DODGE CITY OF MILWAUKEE THAT THIS IS NORMAL). I SHUT OFF THE CAR, TURNED IT ON AGAIN, AND IT SEEMED TO WORK NORMALLY. SINCE THE STEERING WAS AFFECTED, I STRONGLY SUSPECT THAT THIS INCIDENT IS SOMEHOW RELATED TO THE PROBLEM THAT YOUR TECHNICIANS NEGLIGENTLY FAILED TO ADDRESS. WHEN I PURCHASED A NEW DODGE VAN IN 2006 FOR MY FAMILY OF SIX, I NEVER IMAGINED THAT IT WOULD CAUSE ME TO FEAR FOR OUR SAFETY WITHIN TWO YEARS. THIS IS AN ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE SITUATION. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS LARGELY DUE TO THE FAILURE OF DODGE CITY OF MILWAUKEE'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO ADDRESS PROBLEMS THAT I REPEATEDLY MENTIONED. I AM COPYING MY LAWYER ON THIS MESSAGE, ALONG WITH THE WILDE DODGE SALESMAN WHO ORIGINALLY SOLD ME THE CAR, AND I ALSO PLAN TO INFORM THE NATIONAL CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. MY 2006 MODEL YEAR DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAS HAD THE AIRBAG LIGHT LIT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA CLAIMS THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2005 MODEL YEAR ONLY, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE 2006 MODEL GRAND CARAVAN IS VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL TO THE 2005 MODEL VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE DEVELOPED THIS AIRBAG PROBLEM WHEN IT WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, GIVEN THE FACT THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. IT SHOULD BE FIXED AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER UNDER A RECALL. *TR
LOW SPEED (AROUND 15 MILES PER HOUR) FRONT END COLLISION RESULTED IN DEPLOYMENT OF DRIVER SIDE AIRBAGS. KNEE AIRBAG WITH HARD PLASTIC COVER DEPLOYED AGAINST SHINS OF DRIVER, MY WIFE. WITHIN MINUTES OF THE ACCIDENT SHE HAD SEVER BRUISING, SWELLING AND PAIN. WITHIN A FEW WEEKS, THE SKIN AND TISSUE ON LEFT LEG TURNED BLACK AND REQUIRED SURGERY TO REMOVE. A FEW DAYS LATER SHE HAD A SKIN GRAFT DONE. SIX MONTHS LATER SHE CONTINUES TO HAVE SIGNIFICANT ISSUES WITH SWELLING, PAIN AND CIRCULATION. SURGEON HAS NOW REFERRED HER TO ANOTHER SPECIALIST. *TR
POWER DOORS AND LOCKS NOT WORKING ON 2006 DODGE CARAVAN. AUTOMATIC QUIT WORKING A YEAR AGO HAD A VERY HARD TIME EVEN GETTING DOOR CLOSED.. THEY ARE VERY HEAVY OR ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO OPERATE MANUALLY. SOMETIMES THEY WON'T UNLOCK TO EVEN OPEN MANUALLY FROM THE OUTSIDE AND CANNOT OPEN THEM MANUALLY FROM THE INSIDE --A REAL PAIN. FULL DEALER INSPECTION IN DECEMBER PRIOR TO PURCHASE CLAIMED THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS $800. I WAS TOLD SQUEEZING THE BOOT ON END AND YOU COULD SEE OIL LEAKING OUT AS THE CAUSE OF THE OIL. ALSO, PREVIOUSLY OBSERVED A CLICK SOUND WHEN DOING TIGHT U-TURN AT SPEED. THE VAN SAT FOR SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL WE TOOK IT TO DEALER MONDAY MORNING. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER (1-800-992-1997) VERY FEW MILES FOR THIS TO FAIL. AFTER A LONG DELAY WHILE THE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS OUTSIDE THE 36,000 WARRANTY AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY OTHER WARRANTIES. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE ME ANY INFORMATION ON HOW OFTEN THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. I WOULD HATE TO HAVE STEERING FAIL WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. I NOTICED WHAT APPEARED TO BE AN OIL LEAK COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF MY UNDERCARRIAGE. I IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED ME THE RACK AND PINION IN MY 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN NEEDED REPLACED. WHEN I ASKED HIM HOW COMMON IT IS FOR A VEHICLE OF THE AGE MINE IS, WITH SO FEW MILES FOR CARS TODAY, HE SAID IT WAS BECOMING COMMON AND EVEN SHOWED ME ANOTHER DODGE GRAND CARAVAN ON THE RACK FOR THE EXACT SAME THING. I WAS TOLD $873 TO FIX IT. I THEN CALLED THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER WHO SAID THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF ANY GRAND CARAVANS HAVING THIS KIND OF PROBLEM AND THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. I IMMEDIATELY GOT ON THE INTERNET WHERE I HAVE FOUND WEBSITE AFTER WEBSITE DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE AND THAT THE RACK AND PINION FOR MY VEHICLE IS ON BACK ORDER. THIS REALLY SEEMS LIKE A REAL ISSUE THAT DODGE NEEDS TO ADDRESS, RATHER THAN JAB IT TO THE CONSUMER. *TR
