DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HWY AT APPROX 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE/ENGINE TURNED OFF. GOT TO SHOULDER OF HWY AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE REVERSING AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND A GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED APPROXIMATELY TEN MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. REAR CALIPERS STICK CAUSING ROTORS TO OVERHEAT AND PADS TO WEAR PREMATURELY. DEALER FIXED FRONT BRAKES BECAUSE OF RECALL BUT WOULD NOT REPAIR REAR BRAKE PROBLEMS. CHRYSLER SHOULD BE MADE TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
2010 DODGE CARAVAN. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. *SMD IN AUGUST 2012, WHILE TRAVELING AT NIGHT, ALL THE OF THE DRIVING LIGHTS WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST REVEALED, THE HEADLAMP SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN OCTOBER 2012, WHILE DRIVING AGAIN AT NIGHT, ALL OF THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER IT WAS NOTED THAT AT TIMES THE LIGHTS WOULD WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THEY DETERMINED THROUGH DIAGNOSTICS TESTING IT AGAIN NEEDED A HEADLAMP SWITCH AS WELL AS AN INTEGRATED POWER MODULE. SINCE THE LIGHTS WERE OPERATIONAL AT THAT TIME, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED TO CONTINUE DRIVING AND THE NECESSARY PARTS WOULD BE ORDERED. THE FIRST WEEK OF NOVEMBER WHILE DRIVING, THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, WHERE SHE WAS GIVEN A LOANER VEHICLE, WHICH SHE HAD FOR 10 DAYS, BECAUSE THE PARTS HAD NOT ARRIVED. ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 4, 3013, WHILE DRIVING, ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL POWER CONTROLLING THE TURN SIGNALS, AIR CONDITIONING, POWER WINDOWS, RADIO, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, ETC. STOPPED WORKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED, IT WAS AN APPARENT PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 MODELS. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS, AS THE COMPANY THAT MANUFACTURED IT, HAD GONE OUT OF BUSINESS.
LAST YEAR WHILE DRIVING MY VAN, IT STALLED OR TURNED OFF COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING. MY POWER STEERING EVERYTHING WENT DEAD. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND PLACE IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE. SINCE THAT INITIAL INCIDENT LAST YEAR, IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. THE MOST RECENT I WAS DRIVING IN THE BALTIMORE INNER HARBOR TUNNEL WHEN IT SHUT DOWN. ON A FEW OCCASIONS I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SPEED, THE VEHICLE JUST TURNS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. THE DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME THEY CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND ALSO NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS REPORTED DUE TO THIS. IT SADDENS ME THAT MY SELF AND MY CHILDREN COULD DIE IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO DODGE NEGLECTING TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. *TR
THE KEY FOB WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. IT STAYS IN THE ACCESSORY POINT. IF YOU MOVE THE CAR FORWARD AND THEN BACKWARD, THEN PLACE THE SHIFTER IN PARK, SOME TIMES THE KEY FOB WILL COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. *TR
PLEASE LOOK INTO THE 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVANS SHUTTING OFF JUST LIKE THE GM MODELS. MY VAN SHUTS OFF WITH LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. THE DEALER ALWAYS TELLS ME THERE IS NO ERROR CODE. SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OUT THERE, WHY IS NOTHING BEING DONE? I DO NOT WANT TO DIE IN MY VAN! I HAVE 3 CHILDREN. *TR
WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED, IT SOUNDS AS IF METAL IS RUBBING AGAINST METAL. BRAKE PADS ARE BRAND NEW AND ROTORS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT AND HAVE ALSO TALKED TO OTHERS TO FIND OUT THE CALIPERS ARE BAD AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. EVEN WHEN REPLACED, THE SAME THING BEGINS TO HAPPEN SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. *TR
IN MAY I STARTED TO NOTICE SOME SHIMMYING WHEN I WOULD SLOW DOWN. THE LONGER I DROVE THE CAR, THE WORSE IT WOULD GET. I SPOKE TO MY NEIGHBOR IS A MECHANIC AT A CAR DEALERSHIP AND HE SAID IT WAS MY BRAKES. I HAD MY FRONT BRAKES REPLACED ON JULY 11TH UNDER THE RECALL. THE SHIMMYING WAS NOT AS BAD BUT STILL THERE. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. NOW AT 27,000 MY REAR BRAKES ARE BEING WORKED ON. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 18 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF BRAKE TROUBLE AND DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD BE HAVING IT ON A NEW CAR. *TR
WE HAD OUR IGNITION REPAIRED 2 TIMES ALREADY. ONCE BECAUSE THE IGNITION SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AT 60 MILES PER HOUR. THEN AGAIN FOR THE RECALL FOR THE IGNITION MODULAR THAT WAS WHY THE ENGINE WAS GETTING SHUT OFF BY THE IGNITION AND NOW THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. WE TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THAT THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT UNLESS WE PLAY WITH TURNING ON AND OFF THE VAN, PUTTING IT IN REVERSE THEN FORWARD, OUT OF PARK INTO DRIVE AND WASTING A LOT OF TIME AND GAS JUST TO GET IT TO COME OUT. THE SERVICE TECH SAID FIRST THE KEY WAS INTO TOO LOOSE BEFORE THE RECALL AND NOW IT IS IN TOO TIGHT AFTER THE RECALL PART WAS PUT IN. SO AFTER DRIVING 100 MILES FOR SERVICE WE ARE TOLD MAKE SURE TO PUT THE VAN IN PARK AND THE KEY SHOULD COME OUT. WELL IT DOES NOT. NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THEIR COMPUTERS SO THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE KEY WILL NOT TURN OFF THE ENGINE SO IF THE KEY IS LEFT IN THE BATTERY COULD GO DEAD. I HAVE TO GO THROUGH OFF AND ON, DRIVE, REVERSE TO GET THE KEY OUT. I AM AFRAID THAT THE IGNITION PROBLEM COULD TURN THE ENGINE OFF AGAIN AT 60 MILES AN HOUR. NO ONE IS HELPING US BECAUSE, IN MY OPINION, THIS IS THE THIRD REPAIR ON THE IGNITION, MAKING THE VAN A LEMON. SO THIS IS WHY WE GOT NO RECEIPT OF SERVICE FOR THE TECH TELLING US TO PUT THE VAN IN PARK. MY HUSBAND WAS A STATE TROOPER AND TAUGHT DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASSES AT THE POLICE ACADEMY. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 45 YEARS. SO WE BOTH KNOW HOW TO PUT THE VAN IN PARK AND HOW TO REMOVE A KEY FROM AN IGNITION. CHRYSLER HAS NOT RESPONDED TO OUR COMPLAINT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING A U-TURN, SHE NOTICED FIRE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF HER VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME AND WAS NOT TAKEN THE TO DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,405.
AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES OF OPERATION AT 50MPH MY ENTIRE DASH LIGHT WARNING SYSTEM LIGHT UP & THEN WENT DARK. THE VEHICLE ENGINE DIED. AS I WAS SLOWLY COASTING TO A STOP, THE LIGHTS & VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY CAME BACK ON & RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. A CHECK OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES RECORDED NO INCIDENT & I CANNOT RECREATE THE FAILURE. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THAT INCIDENT, I STARTED MY ENGINE, BEGAN TO REVERSE OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, WHEN THE A/C UNIT STOPPED BLOWING & LIGHTS WENT OUT, CLOCK & DASH WENT DARK. I PULLED BACK INTO THE SPOT, PARKED, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION & RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND THE A/C, RADIO, PANEL HAS WORKED FINE EVER SINCE. STILL NO CODES REPORTED DURING A DIAGNOSTIC. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED DRIVING THE 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN! ALL THE WHILE, THE MANUFACTURE DENIES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW, THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I AM FASTIDIOUS ABOUT SERVICE & MAINTENANCE OF MY VEHICLE, AND HAVE THE RECEIPTS TO PROVE IT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND THE REAR BRAKES SEIZED. I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND THEY WERE BURNING. I HAD COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER 2 MONTHS PRIOR THAT I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. I HAD A LOT OF PULSING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND DIDN'T FEEL LIKE I COULD STOP QUICK ENOUGH. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. AFTER THE BRAKES SEIZED ON 6/28/12, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE REAR BRAKES WERE ALL CORRODED. THE ROTORS, BRAKE PADS AND CLIPS HAD TO BE ALL REPLACED. MONTHS AGO, DODGE HAD PUT AN ADDITIONAL WARRANTY ON THE FRONT BRAKES FOR THIS VERY REASON (PRE-MATURE CORROSION) INSTEAD OF DOING A RECALL. BUT THE BACK BRAKES WERE NOT COVERED. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH CORRODED REAR BRAKES SEIZING AT LOW MILEAGE. PLEASE LOOK IT IN THIS. I DIDN'T EXPECT SOMETHING LIKE TO HAPPEN ON A VEHICLE WITH RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE. *TR
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON BUT WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE WINDOWS WOULD NOT WORK, THE CONTROL PANEL WOULD NOT REGISTER. ALL WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP. THE POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS ARE MULTIPLE. THE VEHICLE IS CONSIDERED UNSAFE TO OPERATE BY THE OWNERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKE DISTANCE HAD INCREASED AND THE TIRES WERE NOT STABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE PAD AND ROTORS WERE WORN PREMATURELY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIR WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE AN ESTIMATED DATE OF WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,447.
REAR PASSENGER WHEEL GETS EXTREMELY HOT WHILE DRIVING. IT APPEARS THAT THE CALIPER MAY BE LOCKING UP. THE REAR WHEEL ON THE DRIVER SIDE ALSO MAKES A HIGH PITCHED WHINE, WHICH IS INTERMITTENT AND USUALLY GOES AWAY BY TAPPING THE BRAKE PEDAL. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID WE NEEDED A REAR BRAKE JOB. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO DEFECTIVE CALIPERS WHICH ARE NOT RELEASING THE PADS FROM THE ROTORS. THE REAR BRAKES ON EVERY CAR I HAVE OWNED ALWAYS LAST SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER THAN THE FRONT. THE FACT THAT THE REAR PADS ARE WORN EXCESSIVELY WHILE FRONT ARE NOT INDICATES A DEFECT IN THE REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLY. THE IGNITION WAS REPAIRED AS PART OF A RECALL. HOWEVER, AFTER STARTING THE CAR, THE KEY DOES NOT RETURN TO THE "ON" POSITION. THIS ALLOWS THE CAR TO RUN AND BE DRIVEN, HOWEVER NONE OF MY LIGHTS OR DIRECTIONALS WORK. I CAN WIGGLE THE KEY TO GET IT INTO THE CORRECT POSITION, BUT SOMETIMES IT IS NOT OBVIOUS THAT THE KEY IS IN THE WRONG POSITION. THIS RESULTS IN ME DRIVING WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS IN THE RAIN AND THINKING THAT I AM SIGNALING PROPERLY IN TURNS WHEN IN FACT EVERYTHING IS OFF. *JS
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND I DID NOT KNOW IT UNTIL I REALIZED I DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING OR BRAKES, WHILE CAR STILL ROLLING I RESTARTED VEHICLE. I RECEIVED LETTER NOTIFYING ME ON A RECALL REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I BROUGHT CAR IN FOR REPAIR. JULY 19 I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND TOLD DEALER THAT AFTER RECALL REPAIR MY KEY GETS STUCK IN IGNITION AND CANT TURN CAR OFF UNLESS I PUT VEHICLE IN DRIVE AGAIN AND RESTART CAR AND AGAIN TRY TO SHUT OFF. DEALER SAID THEY NEEDED TO CHECK THE RECALL AND POSSIBLY REPLACE AGAIN. THEY SAID THEY WOULD INSPECT WIN MODULE AND REPOSITION FOR MORE KEY SUPPORT. AUGUST 15, 2012 VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS GETTING DANGEROUS SINCE I HAVE 3 TODDLERS IN CAR WITH ME AT ALL TIMES - THE REASON FOR PURCHASING A MINI VAN. DEALER STATES THEY KNOW I HAVE BEEN THERE SEVERAL TIMES FOR SAME CONCERN BUT FOUND NO STORED OR ACTIVE CODES. THEY STATED IT MAY HAVE TO DO WITH NEEDING A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND UPDATED TO LATEST LEVEL. OCT 22,2012 BROUGHT VEHICLE IN AGAIN FOR 4TH TIME WITH VEHICLE STALLING WHILE DRIVING. DEALER DECIDED THEY WOULD KEEP MY VEHICLE AND GAVE ME A LOANER TO DRIVE HOME. THE STATED THEY NEEDED TO DUPLICATE IN ORDER TO FIX. AFTER DRIVING 237 MILES (WARRANTY OVER IN 6K MILES) AND CONTACTING CHRYSLER ON HOW TO HANDLE PROBLEM, THEY RE-INSTALLED THE SAFETY RECALL AGAIN. THE DEALER KEEPS DOING THE SAME RECALL OVER AND OVER WITH NO RESOLUTION TO THIS VERY SCARY STALLING PROBLEM. NOW DEC, MY KEY AGAIN DID NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION UNLESS I RESTARTED VEHICLE. DON'T KNOW WHERE TO TURN FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE WITH GANLEY DODGE. *TR
AFTER PLACING SHIFTING LEVER IN PARK, STEPPING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I TRIED TO REMOVE IGNITION KEY AND IT WOULD NOT COME OUT. I DOUBLED CHECK TO MAKE SURE I WAS PLACING IN THE OFF POSITION. PLACED SHIFTER LEVER IN VARIOUS POSITIONS AND THEN BACK INTO PARK AND THE KEY STILL WOULD NOT COME OUT. SAT THERE FOR ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES AND THEN THE KEY FINALLY CAME OUT. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE ISSUE BUT DEALERSHIP LUBRICATED THE IGNITION CYLINDER AND IT SEEMED TO HELP. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER AND I AGAIN TOOK TO THE SAME DODGE DEALER (ROCKWALL DODGE IN ROCKWALL TX 75189). THEY REMOVED THE IGNITION KEY AND REMOVED A SPRING OR REPLACED A SPRING AND STATED THIS SHOULD FIX IT. HOWEVER, OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS IT IS DOING THE SAME THING...IGNITION SWITCH STUCK. I AM AFRAID SOMEDAY I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TURN ENGINE OFF OR GET KEY OUT. HAVE OTHERS HAD THIS PROBLEM? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND LEFT IDLE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE AIR CONDITIONER ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARD AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTED TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE RESUMED WITH NORMAL OPERATION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,050.
FIRST INCIDENT WAS MAY OF 2012 WHEN DRIVE AT I LOST POWER TO WINDOW WIPERS, TURN SIGNALS ,WINDOWS, DOOR LOCKS AND RADIO. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA ON 09/28/2012 NO.10490319. SINCE THEN THE DEALER REPLACED THE CONTROL MODULE WITH REPLACEMENT FIX ON 01/03/2013 PER YOUR RECALL NOTICE. THE NEW MODULE IS NOW HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS THE OLD DESIGN. *TR
AFTER GETTING A FLAT TIRE, TOOK CAR TO A TIRE SHOP. FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH THE TIRE. THE SHOP SHOWED ME THE WHEEL SENSOR TRANSMITTER THAT WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE NUT HOLDING IT IN PLACE HAD DISINTEGRATED, CAUSING THE TIRE TO ABRUPTLY LOSE ALL AIR. CAR HAS ONLY 23,500 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN IN USE FOR 2 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS. I ALSO BELIEVE SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED TO ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES AT 17,000 MILES, DUE TO CONSTANT LOW TIRE PRESSURE, EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE TIRES. BUT THAT WAS HANDLED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS NOT GIVEN THE PART. *TR
MAJOR FRONT END CRASH AIR BAG DID DEPLOY? $12,900 DAMAGE. MY SON WAS DIVING. ON 2/6/2013 ANOTHER FRONT END CRASH $10,500 DAMAGE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS DIVING, NOW I AM CONCERN. SENT A E-MAIL COMPLAINT TO DODGE? VERY GENERAL RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT, I COULD SEE THEIR WERE NOT CONCERNED. IS THIS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR THE DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. I HAVE NO FAITH IN THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE. WHEN I GET THE VAN BACK, I WILL TRADE-IN FOR BETTER SAFER VAN. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A PROGRESSIVE FAILURE, WHICH RANDOMLY OCCURRED FOR LONGER THAN TWO YEARS IN WHICH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ALSO SHORTED OUT AND THE FUNCTIONS FAILED TO WORK ON THE VENT CONTROLS FOR THE HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE MORE THAN TWICE AND WAS UNABLE TO SUPPLY THE PART TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. TWICE IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS THE ALUMINUM VALVE STEMS THAT HOLD THE TPMS SENSORS ON OUR GRAND CARAVAN HAVE BROKEN OFF. 1ST INCIDENT IN APRIL WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND SECOND WHILE MY WIFE AND CHILDREN, AGE 5 AND 4 YEARS, WERE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE SECOND INCIDENT STRANDED MY WIFE AND CHILDREN IN 100+ DEGREE F HEAT FOR CLOSE TO AN HOUR WHILE THEY HAD TO WAIT FOR AAA TO ARRIVE AND CHANGE THE SPARE FOR THEM. THANKFULLY IT WAS A REAR TIRE THAT BLEW OUT AND NOT A FRONT. COULD HAVE ENDED MUCH WORSE. UPON INSPECTION NOTICED THAT TIRE SIDEWALL HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR FROM LOOSING AIR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND BEING DRIVEN TO SAFE STOPPING POSITION. DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND PURCHASE FOUR NEW TIRES BECAUSE WIFE AND CHILDREN WILL BE TAKING AN EXTENDED DRIVING TRIP SOON. NOTICED THAT THE 2011 AND 2012 MODELS NOW HAVE THE MUCH MORE RELIABLE RUBBER VALVE STEMS AND SENSORS INSTEAD OF THE FAILING ALUMINUM STEMS. A LITTLE RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THEY WILL INTERCHANGE DIRECTLY. ASKED DEALER IF THEY WOULD REPLACE ALL FOUR WITH MORE RELIABLE STEM AT TIME OF TIRE CHANGE. SAID YES, BUT ONLY IF I PAY FOR THEM. AMOUNT? CLOSE TO $400.00 WHY SHOULD THE CUSTOMER PAY FOR A PART THAT IS POORLY DESIGNED AND KNOWN FOR FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING 40 MILES AN HOUR ON A CITY HIGHWAY A WARNING BEEP OCCURRED AND THE ELC & ESP LIGHTS CAME ON. 1ST TIME: TIRE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. WHEN CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE, THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF MID WAY UP THE STEM EXPOSING THE VALVE ITSELF. WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE IT COST APPROXIMATELY $150.00 TO REPLACE AND PROGRAM. 2ND TIME: CHECKING AIR PRESSURE BEFORE LEAVING FOR A LONG TRIP. I COULD VISUALLY SEE A TIRE WAS LOW ON PRESSURE (TIRE SQUATTING), LATER REMOVING THE CAP ON THE VALVE STEM I COULD SEE A DISTINCT WHAT I CALL WEAR RING NEAR WHERE THE CAP, WHEN INSTALLED, WOULD END ON THE STEM. AS THIS IS THE AREA THE PREVIOUS STEM BROKE, I SPRAYED THE STEM WITH SOAPY WATER AND CONFIRMED A SLOW LEAK FROM THIS WEAR RING. HAD THIS STEM REPLACED WITH A STANDARD SAFE VALVE STEM. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE COMPONENT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED! THE FIRST OCCURRENCE TOOK THE TIRE ABOUT 20 SECONDS TO GO COMPLETELY FLAT. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE LOADED DOWN WITH A FAMILY GOING ON VACATION, THIS COULD END UP WITH A LOT OF SERIOUS INJURIES IF NOT FATALITIES. I'M HAVING ALL STEMS REPLACED WITH THE TRADITIONAL STYLE UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER RECALLS AND PROVIDES AN ENVIRONMENTALLY TESTED REPLACEMENT. SINCE WE HAD THE ELECTRICAL RECALL 11V139000. WE HAVE 3 PROBLEMS SINCE THE RECALL. . FIRST. THE RADIO WOULD NOT WORK AND NOT TURN OFF. IT WAS JUST STUCK ON THE "ACCEPT DISPLAY. THE DEALER FIXED THAT AND SAID THAT IT WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL. THIS PAST WEEK WE HAD TWO FAILURES. THE FIRST FAILURE, THE WIPERS WOULD NOT TURN OFF, HEATED SEATS DID NOT WORK, TURN SIGNALS DIDN'T WORK AND THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS DIDN'T RESPOND. THE DEALER FIXED THAT AND SAID THAT THERE WAS MOISTURE IN THE HEATED SEATS ELEMENT. LAST NIGHT, THE RADIO AND THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS STOPPED RESPONDING WE HAVE TO BRING THE VAN IN AGAIN TODAY. BOUGHT VEHICLE USED FROM A DODGE DEALERSHIP IN 2012, AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND THEN SPONTANEOUSLY RESTARTED. THIS HAPPENED MAYBE ONCE A MONTH BUT THEN BECAME MORE FREQUENT UNTIL IT IS NOW ALMOST A DAILY OCCURRENCE. WHEN THIS OCCURS SOMETIMES CAR WILL RESTART IF YOU SLIGHTLY TURN THE KEY TOWARDS START QUICK ENOUGH, OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO HAVE SOME CONTROL AND THEN TURN THE KEY TO RESTART (NOT FUN OR SAFE IN TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS). THIS CAN HAPPEN WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE MOVING OR AT ANY SPEED, BUMPY ROADS ESPECIALLY BAD. ONCE WE REALIZED WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH/KEY I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THE RECALL 11V-139 AND DETERMINED THAT OUR VAN WAS BUILT DURING THE RECALL MANUFACTURE DATES. CALLED DODGE 3 TIMES, FIRST TWO CALLS WAS TOLD RECALL DID NOT EXIST. ON THE 3RD CALL WAS TOLD IT DID EXIST BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. I ASKED TO AT LEAST HAVE THE IGNITION SCANNED WITH THE WITECH SCAN TOOL (AS DESCRIBED IN THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE L25 RECALL NOTICE SENT TO DEALERS) DEALER TO DETERMINE IF IT WAS A MARQUARDT, SIEMENS OR CONTINENTAL WIN MODULE. I WAS TOLD I COULD DO THIS AT MY EXPENSE BUT EVEN IF THE RESULTS SHOWED IT WAS A RECALLED IGNITION IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED SINCE MY VIN WAS NOT IN THE RECALL. THIS SITUATION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND IF IT HAS NOT CAUSED ANY DEATHS YET AS WITH THE CURRENT GM IGNITION PROBLEM IT WILL. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. P.S. UNFORTUNATELY, THE TIRE SIDEWALLS SHREDDED BECAUSE I HAD TO DRIVE A DISTANCE TO GET TO A SAFER PLACE TO PULL OVER. BEFORE HAVING THE TIRE REPLACED BY GOODYEAR, WHICH I HAD TO PAY FOR, I HAD THE DAMAGED TIRE INSPECTED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT A LOCAL DODGE DEALER. LESS THAN 2 WEEKS LATER, THE REAR TIRE ON THE DRIVER SIDE FAILED. THE WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR AS IT WAS UNSEASONABLY WARM IN OHIO FOR JANUARY. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE USUALLY MAKES THE PROBLEM GO AWAY, BUT THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 TO 35 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TRUCK HEAD ON. THE FRONT DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK DURING THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER INVESTIGATED THE FAILURE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE ABSORBED THE IMPACT OF THE CRASH. 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN DANGEROUS DRIVER SIDE AIR BAGS. *MW THE CONSUMER AND HIS WIFE WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. WHEN THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, HIS WIFE WAS INJURED. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS WIFE WAS HIT BY THE AIR BAG WITH SUCH FORCE, IT KNOCKED HER UNCONSCIOUS FOR 20 MINUTES OR MORE. THE DODGE INSIGNIA FROM THE CENTER OF THE STEERING WHEEL WAS PERMANENTLY IMPRINTED ON HER STOMACH. HIS WIFE ALSO SUFFERED FROM INCREASING NERVE DAMAGE FROM SPINAL INJURES CAUSED BY THE AIR BAG. *JB

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE IGNITION KEY PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER A REPAIR WAS MADE ON THE VEHICLE, THE KEYS WERE EXTREME;Y SNUG AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN THE IGNITION TO THE ON POSITION. IN LATE DECEMBER, THE FIRST KEY WOULD NOT START THE VEHICLE, BUT WOULD UN-LOCK IT. ON JANUARY 7, 2014, THE SECOND KEY FAILED IN THE SAME WAY. AGAIN, THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO GET A NEW KEY, AS WELL AS THE FIRST KEY, SINCE IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND KEPT OPENING THE REAR DOOR ON ITS OWN. *JB
