NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Dodge Journey. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Won't start. Multiple repairs and it still happens. Online forums say it's common on 2009-2017 year models
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving at unknown speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, the instrument panel flashed, and the vehicle turned off. The contact stated that the vehicle restarted approximately 15 minutes later and was taken to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the flash software, power train control module, anti-lock brake system, wiring three-way, crankshaft position, and sensor battery were replaced. The contact received notification of the Emissions Recall U67 for the Catalytic Converter Efficiency, however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 100,101.
Headrest deployed while driving!
My car is rarely driven, only 40,000 miles. When i started my car recently the brake, ABS light, and traction light came on. I did my research in which i found out that there is a recall for 2012-2015 dodge journey model, my car is a 2015 model but my VIN in particular is not part of the recall
My traction control light, ABS sensor light and brake indicator dash are on. My cruise control does not work. My mechanic says that it is the ABS Control Module. There is a recall for this part, but not for my vin number. The horn fuse had to be removed because the alarm would not stop going off, even when the alarm was not set. This is also associated with the ECM.
My a/c comes on when I turn the heater on. Then the temperature drops while the heater is on. Thank you
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH on wet roads, the vehicle pulled to the right while depressing the brake pedal. The ABS, brake, and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ABS had failed. The dealer informed the contact that the parts were on backorder until April or longer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, opened a case, and stated that the parts were on backorder. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V675000 (Electronic Stability Control, Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
The passenger headrest burst open in its own with no incident causing it to do it.
I was sitting in the house and heard a loud boom, looked outside and my dodge journey was on fire. I called 911 to get to the fire department, and went outside with the fire ext. and the fire was on the left rear of the truck. I put the fire out on the outside but it was burning on the in side and could not get the doors open. The Bardstown KY fire department arrived and put the fire out. The fire department took pictures and are making a report. There is no reason this truck caught on fire. The wires were burnt on the tail light on the left rear and the inside of the truck. My insurance has pictures also Bardstown ky fire department
My vehicle floods constantly, I’ve had it fixed 4 times, I believe it floods through moon roof
This was not an overnight thing. The hoses were being exposed to maximum temperatures each time i drove the car. The hoses going from that extreme heat to cold over and over again which caused little air bubbles in the hoses. As time went on the hoses were forming holes on the inside (up til this point there was no warning indication) because of that three hoses burst. Which caused my car to overheat very suddenly to the point my oil temp shot sky high (which was the first warning light saying my oil was over 300 degrees) and my head gasket was blown before i could get off the road. My windows instantly fogged up from the heat which impaired my vision and resulting in me almost hitting another vehicle when seeking safety to see what was wrong. This has been confirmed by other consumer reports about the faulty hoses. If i knew they were not applicable of being in my vehicle, i would of changed them for more suitable hoses. Luckily nobody got hurt but the instant combustion could of ended in a fatality
Drivers seat head rest deployed at a stop light which caused my head to jerk forward.
Car's check engine on randomly turned on, lost engine power and steering became hard and had to come to an emergency stop. There was no message for the check engine and a couple tries later the car was able to turn back on and made it back home. Could've been much more dangerous situation had we been on a busy road with nowhere to pull over.
The check engine light stays on and code po740 Torque converter clutch circuit open, and the stated fix is replace converter solenoid and trans fluid and filter. Also recommends do not drive. I am qualified to make repairs and did so, cleared codes drove Approx.100 miles light returned on solid. I did research and found a recall id 16V461000 that may not have traveled through the recall system yet. I spoke to a dodge service advisor and was told that is was common and they have replaced several transmission so far this year. Part are scarce to get and Approx. $7k repair. and no recall was issued for the problem. It is my understanding that the car can loose power and no longer move as the problem progresses in traffic and on highway, poss causing an accident. All related parts that fluid travels musts be replaced including trans. oil cooler due to contamination.
The ABS light and Check engine light came on and dash began flickering. Vehicle also experienced sputtering issues and hesitation on acceleration. Vehicle was inspected by an independent technician who recommended taking it to a dealership for an ABS Module. The Vehicle was taken to the dealership and dealership determined that an ABS control and ABS module were needed. Parts were ordered, however, after contacting Chrysler customer care I learned that the ABS module is back ordered and on hold for engineer review. According to the representative I spoke to, folks have been waiting months for this part and it has been a high volume part order. The part number is 68164594AA. According to the rep, the part may take until April to arrive. If this is true it sounds like a significant number of people may be having a serious issue with their Dodge vehicle ABS module.
Front passenger headrest deployed for no reason and it cannot be put back. Will be taking to dealership. Seems to be a common issue.
My driver side headrest popped forward. Apparently this is a safety feature if you are in an accident, I have not been in an accident. I noticed on 8-28 the headrest felt different while driving and when I got to work I looked at it and the front of the headrest was detached. After looking online this has happened to many dodge owners, I’m glad it didn’t happen while I was driving.
Between 2020-2023, my car has completely shut off while driving down the road. I lose all power steering and the ability to use the gas and brake pedals. When this happens there is no warning light at all. Every time I’ve taken it to the dealership they can’t figure out the problem and it keeps happening. In total it has probably shut off on me 20-30 times. It doesn’t matter the situation or how fast I’m going, it just shuts off and stops working. I believe my car starting doing this anywhere from 145,000-180,000 miles. When I get to the side of the road after coasting with what I have left I turn the car off and then back on and it starts right back up no problem. I’m sick and tired of dealing with this and absolutely no one can figure it out. I’ve put so much money into this car and quite frankly it’s a death trap and I know that others with my vehicle are having the exact same problem. Why hasn’t this car been recalled? My children and I could literally die because I may not have time to get over on the road.
Airbag warning light goes on and off at times, sometime remains on for a minute or two and other times goes off immediately. This happens when the turn signal is turned on or when I run over a bump in the road. I had the codes run on it and it shows up as the steering wheel clockspring. This started doing this during summer of 2022 and stopped until recently.
Went car this morning and notice the front passenger head rest was pop/broken. There are no accident, hit misuse to car. This is a family car.
Spontaneous deployment of active head restraint of passenger side of vehicle occurred. The passenger seat was occupied when spontaneous deployment occurred which caused passenger to experience head and back pain. The deployment of active head restraint was not the result of collision as the active head restraint spontaneously deployed while the car was in motion. No safety dash features predicted the spontaneous deployment of head rest.
My Airbag light continuously stays lit. Concerned about malfunction.
While I was driving drivers side headrest deployed striking me forcefully in the back of the head
When putting the vehicle into park it either shifts rite into park, shows -- on the dash, says R and it's in P for example my husband drove my car put it in the park or so he thought turned the car off and came in the house we all left a little while later I get in my car and it won't start and I look at my dash and it says vehicle not in park and it was clearly in park, went to a friend's house put it in park put my foot off the brake and it started rolling backwards look up at my dash and it's in reverse even though it is in park had to put it in neutral put my emergency brake on and turn it off use the little lever inside the center console to manually shift it into gear
P0868 low pressure. current Recall needs expanded years. 2014 manufactured date is effected as well. Many things already replaced leading back to faulty pump. Viscous coupler also malfunctions in these at low milage. Flex plate fractures.
Our anti-lock brake system is failing Code C2200-49
The front passenger seat head rest has snapped open or apart while it was parked & no one in the seat. It appears there is a broken clamp or snap that holds it together. This seems like it could be a safety hazard if there was a collision, the headrest might push a passengers head forward instead of restraining.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the "Service Engine" warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that cylinder #6 had experienced a misfire. Additionally, the engine had experienced low compression and cylinder head damage. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 85,000.
The wire Harness in hatch where it meets in the boot wires break from using hatch 2010 to 2020 all models and can cause camera wiper brake lights reverse lights plate lights and tail lamps and unlock and lock button not to work on hatch the wires break from normal use on all models and it can cause a spark and start a fire
The contact's wife owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V432000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and driving over a bump on the roadway, the ABS warning light illuminated. Thee contact stated that the ABS warning light had since been illuminated permanently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V675000 (Electronic Stability Control, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Driver seat headrest deployed without any accident or driving.
Since purchasing this vehicle we have had catalytic converter issues that have persisted even after having the dealer "fix" the issue.we have also had ABS/Traction control module issues.this is the 2nd identical vehicle owned with the exact same problems.
Inside the wire in trunk hatch may cause brake lights to stop working and reverse light and rearview camera and-unlock button on trunk The wires become brittle overtime from opening and closing the hatch
I have had my car repaired a couple of time for the same issue, and both mechanics have told me that there is a recall on my cylinder 2 engine and the manufacturer was not saying anything which is causing the check engine light to come on and codes reading the same every single time: misfire, spark plugs and gaskets which have all been replaced twice in the 5 years of owning this car. The dealership won't help, if there is a recall or issue with my vehicles I need to know so I can transport my family and I safely back and forth. I see a lot of people complain about the same exact problem I'm facing currently. I'm probably out of about $5k maybe more.
The ABS system got wet and shorted out the electrical system. It seems it may have been a recall earlier that was done but obviously it has failed again. Was driving and all lights and beepers went off. My abscandvtraction control and brake sensor and cruise control and park assist and engine and brake lights are all on and it now won’t start easy. It’s a mess and at the dealer who says they won’t help fix it
The acceleration stopped, the lightening light, traction light and skid light all came on and would not accelerate. Car was on but no gas pedal in the middle of the highway. Oil was changed a week before and no leaks on ground but oil is low. It is very dangerous as it has done this several times over the last month and has caused me to almost be in several wrecks because speed drops and cars almost rear end me. Have replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor twice no in a month.
The liftgate just stops opening. No emergency bypass will release it. It raises risk on entrapment. The repair shops are unsure why it is happening.
Everything comes on and the battery is good, but my vehicle will not start. With my feet on the brakes and I press start it goes to run, but it's not running, and it did not start. My husband and I were 52miles away from home and I had to have it tow to the Chrysler Dodge service center in Stone Mountain, and we live in Senoia Ga. My vehicle has been in their shop for over a week, and they actually said they are trying to figure out the problem. The engine light came on and the vehicle will not start it appeared to be dead, but everything came on but the vehicle. I google the problem and I found out I'm not alone over 100 other people had the same problem with this particular vehicle. Most model from 2013 to 2017 are having the same problem. I need my vehicle to take my husband to and from the cancer center] and other places I may need to take him to see a specialist.
This vehicle has a known design defect with the oil filter housing and cooler assembly. This plastic assembly will crack and leak oil into a valley in the engine compartment and eventually will leak oil over the rest of the engine and onto the floor. Other times it will fail completely and leak a large amount of oil and/or coolant causing engine failure. Repair if this occurs out of the warranty period is over $800US. There are many web sites with this same information and they are all the same cause. Chrysler will not affect repair for this issue unless it is in the warranty period. Problem is the failure can happen during the warranty period or after but it WILL happen. This should be a recall due to potential safety issue. If this happens while traveling at highway speeds, the engine can sieze and suddenly stop possibly causing a crash and injuries to the occupants or other nearby vehicles. Attached is the diagnosis from my mechanic.
My traction control light, ABS sensor light and brake indicator dash are on. My cruise control does not work and sometimes the car will not start. I'm afraid to drive it. Thinking that it may turn off while driving it. My mechanic says that it is the ABS Control Module. There is a recall for this part, but not for my vin number. A number of Dodge owners I know are having this same issue.
While my car was stationary, my passenger headrest safety mechanism (or Active Head Restraints (AHR)) deployed. The soft piece of the headrest unexpectedly and violently popped out from the plastic unprompted. Luckily, nobody was in that seat, but the noise startled me so badly I thought I was hit. Upon inspection, two PLASTIC clips that hold the strap in place had snapped and broken, releasing the mechanism. I promptly called a Chrysler dealer and they scheduled me for a warranty replacement. The serviceman said this is a known issue, and that a lady suffered this same issue a couple weeks ago but on the driver's side. He said that although this is a known issue, there is no recall. When asked if I could have the driver's side preemptively replaced, he said it would have to be at my expense. If I had been driving and it happened on the driver's side, I likely would've gotten into an accident and/or been injured. If this is a known issue (and if you research online, it is), why is there no recall? What if this causes a crash and death?
The Antilock Brake System (ABS) is not functioning and warning lights are on. I understand there is a recall on Dodge/Journey 2012-2015 for ABS control module: Safety Recall R61/NHTSA 15V-675. I took it to the Dodge dealership for repair, but they declined as my car, based on the vin number, is not covered under this recall. They said only specific vin numbers are recalled and mine is not one of them. Since my Dodge falls under the 2012-2015 general recalI and I have a faulty ABS module, may I get approval to be included under that recall, as this is a safety issue? I talked with the FCA and they suggested I address this issue to you. Thanks.
Drivers side headrest deployed without warning and without a crash. Internal Plastic clips broke causing deployment. Thankfully I was only sitting in the car and not driving. It is a powerful jolt to the back of the head.
My car battery dies over night. Leaving me stranded. I have replaced the battery 5 times in 2 years. I have looked this problem up and there are a huge number of complaints online from Journey owners with the same issue. As a company, Dodge should stand behind their products & issue a recall to fix this problem. I can not keep affording to have my car towed and replacing batteries.
The engine started racing, but did not show on the Tachometer. No dashboard lights. This problem started this morning (9-19-22). When I put it in gear, it jerks. I have to be extra cautious not to hit anyone or anything. I have had this car almost 2 years. It has been doing fine. I don't understand what could be causing this problem.
I was driving and I had a passenger. We were just driving like normal. All of a sudden the passenger headrest snapped. It was pretty loud. The pieces inside the headrest are broken and will not snap back together. Luckily there were no injuries despite the force when it broke.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, the vehicle was jerking. The contact stated that the RPM’s increased; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure persisted and while coming to a stop at a red light, the vehicle was stalling. The contact pulled over and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was then towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed there was no recall associated with the VIN. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
While following my fiancé after dinner her dodge journey completely shut off while driving but all the dash lights and radio stayed on. She was able to stop the vehicle safely bc I was following her and I was able to stop the traffic. She was still able to steer the vehicle and use the brakes. She stated that there was no warning or anything. I checked to see of any check engine light or anything was on but there wasn't. She did tell me it happen earlier that day at her work while she was standing outside of the car talking to her boss and the vehicle just shut off. My concern is if this happens again herself, my kids, or other individuals could seriously get hurt especially at higher speeds. She will be calling around to some mechanics and see if they can figure out the cause.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the engine started to misfire and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to O'Reilly Auto Parts where it was diagnosed that the number three cylinder had a bad coil and needed to be replaced. The coil was replaced but the failure recurred. The engine warning light illuminated again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the number three-cylinder coil cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided case number 83819460. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The consumer stated the extended warranty for the cracks in the cylinder applies to the right side and not the left side of the cylinder. Also, the extended warranty did not include the consumers vin number. The consumer stated the vehicle was traded in for fear of paying another $4,000 in repairs.
