TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CUSTOM SOFTWARE ROUTINE WAS NOT READING THE CORRECT SET OF CHARACTERS, AND WAS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY A BCM. AS A RESULT, AN ELECTRICAL SHORT DEVELOPED AND THE BODY CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED OF A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V128000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT -THE DRIVERS DOOR AJAR WARNING WILL POP ON WHILE DRIVING TURNING ON THE INTERIOR LIGHTS. ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT. MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE DRIVERS DOOR LATCH SPECIFICALLY ON 2011 FORD EDGES. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ALSO THE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED AND THAT CAUSES THE BATTERY TO RUN DOWN BECAUSE IT WILL STAY ON AT LEASE 5 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR IS PARKED, THE DOOR IS CLOSED AND THE KEY IS REMOVED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. AFTER ENTERING THE VEHICLE, ALL THE DOORS FAILED TO LOCK INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE DOORS WERE ABLE TO LOCK, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE DOORS WERE SECURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
2011 FORD EDGE, I AM THE FIRST OWNER AND BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW. AT APPROX 2000 MILES AFTER THE 36K MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED THE DRIVERS DOOR LATCH SWITCH IS MESSED UP. THE DOOR WILL BE SHUTAND THE SYSTEM STILL SHOWS IT AJAR WHICH CAUSES THE INTERIOR LIGHT TO STAY ON FOR 5 PLUS MINUTES. EVEN WHILE DRIVING THE DOOR CLOSED AND NO WARNINGS THE SWITCH WILL MALFUNCTION AT NIGHT AND CAUSE THE INTERIOR (WHITE) LIGHTS TO COME ON. THIS IS A HAZZARD AT NIGHT (SAFETY)!!!! I HAVE CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD AND THEY GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND AND DO NOT WANT TO COVER THEIR DEFECT!! THERE ARE MORE THAN 7 DOCUMENTED CASES ON HERE AND EVEN MY SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THESE YEAR AND MODEL ARE NOTORIUS FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT FORD DOES NOT COVER! SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE HAS NEVER HEARD OF IT (BS). BOTTOM LINE.... IF YOU WILL NOT COVER YOUR PRODUCT I WILL NOT BUY YOUR CHEAP PRODUCT!! I PURCHASED A CERTIFIED USED 2011 FORD EDGE IN JANUARY 2013. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I STARTED NOTICING SOME MAJOR ISSUES. 1) THE TRANSMISSION WHINES AT LOW SPEEDS, UNTIL I ACCELERATE & IT SHIFTS UP A FEW GEARS. I HAVE ALSO HAD IT SLIP & CLUNK WHILE SHIFTING GEARS 2) THERE IS A LOUD POPPING FROM THE FRONT END, PASSENGER SIDE, WHEN I AM TURNING, ESPECIALLY IN & OUT OF PARKING SPOTS 3) THERE IS A WHISTLE COMING FROM UNDER THE SUV, BETWEEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOORS & IT DOES IT IN ACCESSORY MODE OR WHEN THE SUV IS RUNNING. I HAVE NOW HAD IT BACK AT THE DEALER FOR THE 3RD TIME & THEY ARE WORKING WITH FORD ON DIAGNOSING THE ISSUES. IT IS VERY DISHEARTENING TO SPEND SO MUCH MONEY FOR A VEHICLE & HAVE SUCH ISSUES. THANKFULLY IT IS CERTIFIED & UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN GOOD ABOUT GETTING ME A LOANER VEHICLE TOO. DOOR AJAR LIGHT FOR DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR DOES NOT GO OFF WHEN DOOR IS SECURELY CLOSED. MUST CLOSE DOOR 3 TO 7 TIMES FOR IT TO GO OFF. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM ON INTERNET. *TR
THE DRIVERS DOOR THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT , THE SWITCH IS STICKING CAUSING THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT AND INTERIOR LIGHTS TO STAY ON ALSO THE DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT ENGAGE.SAFTEY ISSUE. HAVE HAD TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THIS SWITCH TWICE SINCE 2012 AT A COST OF ORE THAN 500.00 DOLLARS. DEALER SAYS THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT SINCE NO RECALL ALL THEY CAN DO IS REPAIR OR REPLACE OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I KNOW THIS IS A MODEL PROBLEM JUST CHECK. *JS
ON MARCH 9, 2013 WHILE DRIVING 40 MILES PER HOUR, THE VEHICLE JERKED AS IF I HAD HIT OR BEEN HIT BY SOMETHING, PULLED OVER INTO A PARKING LOT, GOT OUT LOOKED UNDER MY VEHICLE WALKED AROUND AND DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING, MY MOTOR DIDN'T COME OUT, DIDN'T GET HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, NO BLOWOUT TIRES, GOT BACK IN MY VEHICLE AND DROVE HOME WITH NO OTHER ISSUES (WOW). THEN ON MARCH 31, 2013 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM AN OUT OF TOWN TRIP, ALMOST HOME, ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING 75 MILES PER HOUR THE VEHICLE JERKED AGAIN LIKE IT DID THAT DAY ON MARCH 9, MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WITH HIS EYES CLOSED AND SAT STRAIGHT UP AND ASKED ME IF WE HAD BEEN HIT. EXPLAINED TO HIM THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME A FEW WEEKS AGO. TOOK IT BACK IN AND OF COURSE THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE SO A RECORDER WAS INSTALLED. ON MAY 24, 2013 THIS HAPPENED AGAIN I PUSHED THE BUTTON ON THE RECORD AND NOW MY EDGE IS BACK IN THE SHOP. I HAVE BEEN READING BLOGS ON FORD FORUM, APPARENTLY THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING SINCE 2007. IF MY VEHICLE DECIDES TO STALL WHILE THIS IS OCCURRING I'M IN DEEP TROUBLE I'LL BE REAR ENDED AND FORD MOTOR WILL HAVE A LAW SUIT ON THEIR HANDS. GLAD IT DIDN'T STALL OUT ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE I MAY NOT BE HERE TODAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE, SHE SCRAPED THE TIRE AGAINST A CURB. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE HUB CAP TO BEND, EXPOSING SHARP EDGES. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE DAMAGED HUB CAP COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE INJURIES OR LACERATIONS WHEN WASHING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE HUB CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
-DOOR AJAR SIGNAL STAYS ON WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED TIGHTLY. NEVER DO I CLOSE THE DOOR AND THE DOOR AJAR SIGNAL GOES AWAY. IT IS ALWAYS ON. -AS SUCH, THE INTERIOR LIGHT STAYS ON THE IN CAR MAKING IT VERY UNSAFE AND HARD TO SEE AT NIGHT. -I HAVE THE INABILITY TO LOCK THE DOORS WHILE IN THE VEHICLE ANOTHER VERY UNSAFE ISSUE WHEN IN CERTAIN AREAS OR AT NIGHT. -THE LATCH IS FAULTY AND I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF OTHERS ONLINE WHO HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH FORD EDGES. ENGINE STALLED ON INTERSTATE. HAD TO PULL INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, SHIFT TO PARK, AND RESTART. APPEARS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE THAT FORD HAS RECALLED FOR OTHER MODELS THAT USE THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART! CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AFTER THIS OCCURRED, HOWEVER THE ERROR CODES DO NOT RETAIN AFTER RESTARTING. NO TROUBLE WAS FOUND, COULD NOT REPLICATE. HAVE HAD SUBSEQUENT STALLS SINCE, GOING BACK TO DEALER WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK, HOWEVER WARRANTY HAS NOW EXPIRED. *JS

DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ON. INTERIOR LIGHTS DO NOT TURN OFF UNTIL ABOUT 20 MILES PER HOUR. DOORS WILL NOT LOCK IF YOU LOCK THE DOORS THEY WILL JUST UNLOCK EVEN WHILE DRIVING.. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKES. A PRIVATE MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE INTERIOR BRAKE PADS DID NOT HAVE ANY PADDING AND PENETRATED THE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT BOTH REAR ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I PURCHASED THIS CERTIFIED PRE OWNED 2011 FORD EDGE AND 3000 MILES INTO OWNING IT THE DRIVE TRAIN HAS REPEATEDLY SLIPPED AND WHEN IT ENGAGES IT SLAMS. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT ANY TIME MOSTLY FROM AFTER STOPPING AND SOMETIMES AS THE CAR IS JUST DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. I`M TAKING IT IN FOR THIS SOON BUT FROM THESE OTHER POSTINGS I DON`T FEEL SO GOOD ABOUT WHAT TO EXPECT. *TR
AS I WAS LEAVING WORK AND PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD AND MY CAR STALLED AFTER REACHING APPROX 10-15 MPH INDICATING ME TO "SEE MANUAL" WITH A WRENCH ON THE SCREEN THEN FLASHING "CHECK ENGINE OIL PRESSURE". AS I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP MY EDGE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND THE RPM'S BEGAN TO JUMP UP AND DOWN FRANTICALLY. I THEN TURNED MY EDGE OFF FOR 30 SECONDS. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, IT STARTED WITHOUT ISSUE AND IDLED FINE. I WAS ABLE TO BACK IT UP AND DRIVE IT UNDER 10 MPH TO PARK IT OVER NIGHT. THE FOLLOWING DAY (TODAY) WHEN I WENT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME THING HAPPENED EXCEPT THIS TIME AROUND ONLY THE "SEE MANUAL" INDICATOR FLASHED AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICING. STILL NO WORD ON WHAT IT COULD POSSIBLY BE. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL, IT WAS NORMAL AND HAVE BEEN HAVING IT SERVICED EVERY 3,000 MILES. *TR
AT 44460 MILES THE ABOVE PARTS WERE REPLACED AND NOW ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2013 SOME OF THE SAME PARTS HAVE FAILED AGAIN. THE COST OF THE ORIGINAL REPAIR WAS $410.62. I BELIEVED AT THE TIME OF THE ORIGINAL REPAIR THAT ALL OR A GOOD SHARE OF THE COST SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY FORD!!! THERE DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THESE BRAKES. SCRAPE, SCRAPE, SCRAPE!! THERE NEEDS TO BE A DESIGN CHANGE IN THE BRAKE PARTS. OUR OTHER CARS HAVE NOW BRAKE PROBLEMS SUCH AS THE ABOVE. FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE A POOR DESIGN OR A POOR SELECTION OF COMPONENTS. OTHER THAN THE ABOVE, I HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH THE EDGE

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCH WAS FAULTY. THE DOOR LATCH WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH WAS REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE. FELT THE CAR MOVE FORWARD. IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO AVOID THE CAR DIRECTLY PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. ACCELERATING TO 25-30 MILES PER HOUR AND NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS HAPPENING, STEERED THE CAR UP THE PARKING LANE INTO A SNOW-COVERED FIELD, CIRCLED AND CAME BACK INTO ANOTHER ROW OF THE PARKING LOT. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES THE WHOLE TIME. WHEN I GOT TO THE END OF THAT ROW AND REALIZED I HAD NO BRAKES, FINALLY THREW IT IN PARK. THE CAR STOPPED, GEARS GRINDING. THE VEHICLE MAINTAINED THE SAME SPEED THE WHOLE TIME. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN PEOPLE OR OTHER CAR MOVEMENT AT THE TIME, I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. FORD INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING. *TR
BOTH MY WIFE AND I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE LOUD NOISES COMING FROM THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE...GROWLING NOISES WHICH BECAME NOTICEABLE AROUND 30 MPH. AS THE SPEED INCREASED, THE NOISE LEVEL DID AS WELL. I WAS TOLD BY A FORD MECHANIC THAT THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (AFTER ONLY APPROX. 32K MILES!). I REPLACED BOTH REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE NOISE DIMINISHED BUT DID NOT TOTALLY GO AWAY. IT STILL VARIES WITH SPEED. WHEN IT'S RAINING, THE NOISE DIMINISHES. WHEN IT'S COLD ( FREEZING OR LOWER) THE NOISE DIMINISHES. IN NEITHER CASE, AFTER THE BEARINGS WERE REPLACED, DID THE NOISE GO AWAY COMPLETELY. WE BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW AND HAD NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS. DIFFERENT FORD FORUMS STATE THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE ARMS THAT SUPPORT THE REAR WHEELS THAT CAUSES THE BEARINGS TO BE ROTATED IN A POSITION THAT CAUSES THEM TO FAIL QUICKLY. TO DATE I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY LITERATURE FROM FORD VERIFYING THIS, YET THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. *TR
I OWN A 2011 FORD EDGE WITH 39,000 MILES ON IT. THREE DAYS AGO I WAS DRIVING ON A RELATIVELY BUSY ROAD GOING 65 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY EDGE SEEMED LIKE IT LOST ALL POWER TO IT. THE "SEE MANUAL" WITH A WRENCH SCREEN CAME UP ON MY DASHBOARD, AS MY CAR SLOWLY BEGAN TO STOP. UPON STOPPING IT BEGAN TO SHAKE AND RUMBLE VIOLENTLY. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND BACK INTO DRIVE TO START DRIVING AGAIN. WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. THE RPM'S WOULD NOT EVEN MOVE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON IT ROLLED OVER A COUPLE TIMES BEFORE IT ACTUALLY STARTED. THEN IT ACTED LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THEN TODAY (01/28/2013) I WAS TURNING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WASN'T EVEN GOING 20 MPH THIS TIME. I HAD TO COAST ONTO THE TURNING LATE OF THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AFTER TRYING TO AVOID BEING HIT BY A COUPLE SEMI'S. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE WHERE THEY TESTED IT, NOTHING SEEMED TO BE WRONG WITH IT. THEY EVEN CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD. ON THE WAY HOME, 20 MINUTES LATER IT HAPPENED ON THE SAME BUSY HIGHWAY. ONCE AGAIN, I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A COUPLE ACCIDENTS. I HAVE TRIED LOOKING EVERYWHERE TO SEE WHERE THERE IS A SOLUTION BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ONE. I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, AND I ACTUALLY AM CONSIDERING TRADING IT IN. IT'S A DEATH TRAP, AND IT'S SAD TO SAY BECAUSE I LOVED MY EDGE SO MUCH. IF ANYONE HAS THE SOLUTION TO WHAT IS GOING ON, PLEASE TELL ME. I'M TIRED OF GETTING NO ANSWER. *TR
THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR LATCH SENSOR IS FAULTY, THUS THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED. AS A RESULT, DOORS WON'T LOCK AND CAB LIGHTS STAY ON. THE "DOOR AJAR" SENSOR HAS STOPPED WORKING TWICE NOW (REPLACED AT 32,000 MILES AND NOW NOT WORKING AGAIN AT 60,000). SIDE EFFECTS OF THIS INCLUDE HAVING THE DOME LIGHT STAY ON, NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE EXTERIOR KEYPAD LOCK TO LOCK THE DOOR (A SECURITY HAZARD FOR PEOPLE WHO COMMONLY USE THAT FEATURE) AND EXCESSIVE BATTERY WEAR. ALSO, POSSIBLY THE MOST SEVERE HAZARD, THE DRIVER COULD GET USED TO THE WARNING, IF NOT REPAIRED, AND NOT RECOGNIZE WHEN THE DOOR OR ANOTHER IS *LEGITIMATELY* AJAR. IGNORING THE WARNING COULD CAUSE POTENTIALLY DEVASTATING RESULTS. *TR
TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND A WRENCH WARNING SYMBOL APPEARED ON DASH BOARD. TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED ALL CLEARED. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING ON COMPUTER. HAPPEN AGAIN ON TRIP TO FLORIDA AND TWICE MORE BACK AT HOME. DEALER AGAIN CHECK AND SAID COULD FIND NOTHING. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING GOING WRONG AND IT A SERIOUS HAZARD WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELING AT INTERSTATE SPEED AND THE CAR ENGINE, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKES STOP WORKING. CAR GOES INTO CREEP MODE UNTIL YOU STOP TURN OFF ENGINE AND RESTART. *TR
WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 30 AND 35 MPH ON FAIRLY LEVEL TERRAIN BUT SOMEWHAT CURVY MY CAR WILL LUNG VIOLENTLY. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I PULLED OVER THINKING I HAD BEEN HIT IN THE BACK OF MY CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW. MARSHALL MIZE FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNLESS THEY CAN REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS CAR HAS ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. MY FIRST COMPLAINT WAS 1 MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 57 MPH ON A DECLINE IF I EVERY SO SLIGHTLY TOUCH MY BRAKE PAD MY CAR WILL "SLAM" INTO A LOWER GEAR. I HAVE HAD TO BRING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP TO GET IT TO GO BACK INTO NORMAL SHIFT MODE. ACTUALLY HAD A FORD ENGINEER RIDE WITH ME AND TELL ME THAT WAS "NORMAL". WHEN I PRESSED HIM "IT'S NORMAL TO HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP TO GET MY CAR BACK INTO NORMAL SHIFT MODE" HE JUST SHRUGGED HIS SHOULDERS AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO FOR ME. THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT REMAINS ON WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. CURRENTLY THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED. THE FIRST WAS THE DRIVER DOOR WHICH OCCURRED IN DECEMBER OF 2012. THE LATCH WAS REPLACED BY THE LOCAL DEALER UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE TOOK PLACE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014. THIS TIME THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR MALFUNCTIONED. THE LATCH WAS REPLACED AT OWNERS EXPENSE. CURRENTLY THE DRIVER DOOR AGAIN IS MALFUNCTIONING. EACH TIME THE DOOR IS CLOSED THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT REMAINS ON. AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS OF CLOSING THE DOOR THE LIGHT MAY OR MAY NOT GO OUT. WHEN ON THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL REMAIN ON. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE FORD EDGE ESPECIALLY THE 2011 MODELS.
I have had a Soft brake pedal issue ever since I purchased the car in 2012. Because of the soft brake pedal the driving experience is awful. I do more coasting driving that actual driving sine I have to make room for the soft pedal to be applied. My heart sinks when I have to abruptly brake when cut off by another driver and the brakes hesitate to react precisely. If it weren't for coasting I'd be in multiple accidents already. Instead I've put up with coasting driving experience which is a really horrible experience for me and the guy in back of me. I have had my brakes bled, pads and rotors changed multiple times to rectify the issue to no avail. I am addressing this issue because research suggests that it is a failed abs Hydraulic Unit and has described my braking situation perfectly. I've even had the situation temporarily fixed after an abs event, but it only last for less than a week then it goes back to being soft. This actually happened only one time. I believe this is a matter of safety and confidence behind the wheel which I have not benefited from since owning the vehicle.
DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT WILL NOT GO AWAY WHEN CLOSING THE DRIVERS DOOR AND OCCASIONALLY POPS ON WHILE DRIVING TURNING ON THE INTERIOR LIGHTS. ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT. MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE DRIVERS DOOR LATCH SPECIFICALLY ON 2011 FORD EDGES. IN ORDER FOR THE DOOR TO CLOSE AND NOT HAVE THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT COME ON THE DRIVER MUST LOOSEN THE LATCH BEFORE CLOSING THE DOOR. EVEN IF ONE DOES THIS, IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WOULD NOT POP ON WHILE DRIVING. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
I HAD BEEN HAVING ON-GOING ISSUES WITH ENGINE SURGING, STALLING AND GEAR "SKIPPING" SINCE I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2010, WHICH I HAD REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ABOUT WHICH I WAS IN THE MIDST OF LEMON LAW PROCEEDINGS UNDER GA LEMON LAW. THEY ARE BEST DESCRIBED AS SIMILAR IN NATURE TO THOSE REPORTED IN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION HERE: HTTP://WWW.USATODAY.COM/STORY/MONEY/CARS/2013/02/25/PROBE-FORD-CARS-SUVS-STALLING/1945799/ AT TIMES, THE ENGINE WOULD CUT OUT AT HIGH SPEEDS AND I'D BE STUCK IN "LIMP MODE". OTHER TIMES THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP, THEN SURGE, MAKING IT FEEL AS IF I WERE HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. STILL OTHER TIMES, IT MIGHT STALL OUT AT SLOW SPEEDS (I.E. WHILE MAKING A TURN, ETC.), LEAVING ME STUCK IN AN INTERSECTION AND VULNERABLE TO BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORD HAD ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT KEPT RECURRING, EVEN AFTER MANY PARTS WERE REBUILT OR REPLACED. FINALLY, THE UNRESOLVED ISSUE CULMINATED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 11/26/12. I WAS COMING OFF ON A HIGHWAY EXIST RAMP AND THE ENGINE "SKIPPED" AND SURGED, PROPELLING ME INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NO ONE WAS TREATED FOR INJURY AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH, BUT THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER CAR DID REPORT INJURY AFTER THE CRASH. MY ISSUE IS STILL UNRESOLVED BY FORD. THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPTS TO GET ME OUT OF THIS VEHICLE, WHICH I AM STUCK DRIVING UNTIL I CAN COMPLETE THE LENGTHY LEMON LAW PROCESS. TWO WEEKS AGO MY FORD EDGE LIMITED (2011), WHICH I HAD FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS AND IT HAD ~21000MI, STARTED TO HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING ON ONE OF THE BUSIEST HIGHWAYS IN HOUSTON, THE ACCELERATION SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED (GAS PEDAL WENT LIMP) WHEN I WAS GOING 65-70MPH. THE CAR STILL HAD POWER AND I WAS ABLE TO BREAK AND STEER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. WHILE DOING THAT, ALMOST GOT HIT FROM THE BACK TWICE. AFTER COMPLETE STOP AT EMERGENCY LANE, I RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED FINE, AND I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME, THOUGH I WAS AFRAID TO TAKE A HIGHWAY. NEXT DAY, SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TWICE, AND BOTH TIMES AT ABOUT THE SAME SPEED. THESE TIMES, HOWEVER, I FELT STRONG VIBRATIONS WHEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE. ALL OF THE TIMES, AN ORANGE WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING POWER TRAIN PROBLEMS. AFTER THE SECOND TIME, A LIGHT INDICATING THAT ENGINE NEEDS TO BE SERVICED SOON ALSO APPEARED. THIS LIGHT TURNED OFF ON ITS OWN COUPLE DAYS LATER. I HAD PLENTY OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR BEFORE. THIS WAS THE LAST POINT WHEN MY PATIENCE WITH THIS CAR HAD ENDED. BESIDES, I COULD GET INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. LUCKILY, ALL OF THE TIMES I WAS DRIVING AFTER THE RUSH HOUR AND TRAFFIC WAS NOT TOO BAD. OTHERWISE, I WOULD BE DEFINITELY BE HIT BY SOMEONE. IN ANY CASE, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TRADED IT IN. NO WONDER, I WAS TOLD IN THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS AND OFFERED SERVICING THE CAR. I REFUSED IT, BECAUSE OF MULTIPLE PROBLEMS I HAD WITH THIS CAR BEFORE AND JUST DIDN'T WANT TO KEEP IT ANYMORE. FORD DEFINITELY NEEDS TO RECALL 2011 FORD EDGE WITH SUCH PROBLEMS. DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR SENSOR DOESN'T WORK, ALWAYS.
MY DOOR LOCKS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY 2011 FORD EDGE LIMITED MODEL ARE MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN YOU TRY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR EITHER WITH THE TOUCH DOOR SENSORS OR THE REMOTE, THE LOCKS SOUNDS LIKE A MACHINE GUN. ALSO, SOMETIMES THE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK. WHEN FORD WENT IN TO REPLACE THE LOCKING MECHANISM, THEY FOUND OUT MY DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW IS STARTING TO CRACK FROM THE BOTTOM UP, SO THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR AT LEAST A WEEK NOW WAITING ON THE GLASS, WHICH IS APPARENTLY AN ISSUE THAT IS OCCURRING ON ALL OF THESE FORD EDGE VEHICLES. *TR
THE DRIVERS DOOR INDICATION IS THAT IT IS "AJAR". THE DOOR IS FULLY CLOSED, BUT ELECTRICALLY THE SWITCH INDICATES THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR CAUSING THE DOORS TO REMAIN UNLOCKED NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ON AT LOW SPEEDS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT OF THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT. AND DUE TO THE DOORS BEING UNLOCKED, THE REAR DOORS CAN BE OPENED BY CHILDREN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE DOORS ARE NOT LOCKED MAKING IT EASY FOR SOMEONE TO APPROACH AND OPEN YOUR DOORS. THIS SITUATION IS EXTREMELY CONCERNING. MY VEHICLE WAS FIXED ONCE AT 42K MILES AND IS NOW IN NEED OF REPAIR AGAIN. IN ADDITION TO THIS BEING A SAFETY ISSUE IT IS ALSO NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND IS OVER $300 PER REPAIR. *TR
2011 FORD EDGE THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR SENSOR INTERMITTENTLY MALFUNCTIONS AND WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES. THIS CAUSES THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS TO MALFUNCTION AND THE DOORS TO UNLOCK. ADDITIONALLY THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS STAYS ON FOR EXTENDED TIMES THE INABILITY TO LOCK THE DONORS OR FOR THE DOORS TO STAY LOCKED IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE FORD TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM. I PAID FOR THIS REPAIR AS THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS HOWEVER IS A QUALITY AND SAFETY ISSUE AND HAS NOTHING DO WITH HOW THE VEHICLE WAS USED OR MAINTAINED. *TR

IN THE MEANTIME, MY DOORS WILL NOT REMAIN LOCKED WHILE DRIVING AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ON FOR A LONG TIME BEFORE GOING OFF, USING BATTERY POWER. THE DOOR LATCH SENSOR MALFUNCTIONS INDICATING THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR. DOORS WILL NOT LOCK NEITHER MANUALLY NOR ELECTRONICALLY. THE LF DOOR LATCH HAS BEEN REPLACED 10/12, RF LATCH REPLACED 11/13.(BOTH REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY FOR MALFUNCTION) 9/14 THE RF LATCH AGAIN MALFUNCTIONED, AND WAS LUBRICATED AT A DEALER TO RESOLVE PROBLEM. AGAIN AT 5/15 THE LATCH AGAIN MALFUNCTIONED AND WAS INSPECTED. TO THIS DAY IT CONTINUES TO MALFUNCTION. I WAS ADVISED AT THE DEALERSHIP TO WAIT UNTIL UPDATED LATCHES ARE PRODUCED. MEANWHILE, THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN DRIVING. WHEN A NEW DESIGN LATCH IS AVAILABLE, I WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT LATCH BECAUSE THE MILEAGE AND CAR ARE BEYOND WARRANTY.
THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 65 MILES PER HOUR ON INTERSTATE 65. THIS FAIL HAPPENED AT AN EXTREMELY BUSY PORTION OF I-65 AS YOU LEAVE INDIANA AND CROSS INTO LOUISVILLE, KY. LUCKILY, THE TIME OF DAY WAS APPROXIMATELY 1:30 P.M. SO TRAFFIC WAS RATHER LIGHT. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED DURING RUSH HOUR, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET MY CAR OFF THE INTERSTATE AND OVER TO AN EMERGENCY LANE. WHO KNOWS WHAT THAT RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN - A HORRIBLE CRASH - POSSIBLY DEATH. FORD REALLY NEEDS TO STEP UP AND RECALL THE THROTTLE BODY PART. AS I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET, I SEE MANY INSTANCES WHERE FORD APPEARS TO HAVE SEVERAL MODELS (OLD AND NEW) THAT ARE EXPERIENCING FAILED THROTTLE BODY COMPONENTS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND WILL SURELY CAUSE ADDITIONAL FATALITIES (THEY HAVE ALREADY HAD ONE FATALITY DUE TO THIS PART FAILURE). *TR
DRIVING ON I-65 IN AN AREA WITH 4-5 LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH A SPEED ZONE OF 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER - WRENCH LIGHT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON - HAD TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR TO REACH THE EMERGENCY LANE. IT WAS SHEER LUCK THAT I MADE IT TO THE EMERGENCY LANE WITHOUT BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AS I COULD NOT SPEED UP THE CAR AND THE SPEED WAS NEARING ZERO MPH. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND EVENTUALLY REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. IT TOOK THE DEALERSHIP APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK TO REPAIR THE POWER TRAIN ISSUE. PER MY RESEARCH ON VARIOUS FORD EDGE SITES, THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE AND FORD HAS FAILED TO RECALL THIS ISSUE. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT HARMED. HOWEVER, NOT EVERYONE WILL BE THIS FORTUNATE. DOOR AJAR SWITCH WAS REPLACED BY DEALER AT ONE YEAR OF AGE AS DOOR AJAR ALARM CAUSED DOORS TO UNLOCK AND INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS TO COME ON- IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE AT NIGHT WITH INTERIOR LIGHTS ON. NEW SWITCH LASTED TWO YEARS(ORIGINAL SWITCH WAS REPLACED AT ONE YEAR). NOW IN 2014 THE SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE AGAIN!. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ALL OVER USER GROUP WEBSITES COMPLAINING OF THIS PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CALL FORD CUSTOMER CARE THEY SAY THAT "NO ONE HAS EVER FILED THIS COMPLAINT WITH THEM". CALL FORD. BLOW UP THEIR HOTLINES AND IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM GET THE WORD OUT TO THEM AND EVERYONE ELSE INCLUDING CONSUMER AFFAIRS, BBB AND MORE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. I ATTEMPTED TO PARK BEHIND A PARKED VEHICLE. I BACKED OUT OF A DRIVEWAY APPROX 60' FROM THE PARKED CAR AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE THE ENGINE STARTED TO RACE & REV VERY QUICKLY (6 - 7 RPM) LIKE THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK. THE CAR RACED FORWARD AND WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL IT HIT THE PARKED VEHICLE. I TRIED TO BRAKE IMMEDIATELY BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. I APPLIED BOTH FEET WITH MORE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. THE ONLY THING THAT FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR WAS THE PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY HUSBAND WAS THE PASSENGER AND CAN VERIFY THE FACTS. ANOTHER PERSON (FEMALE) WHO LIVES AT THE HOUSE NEXT TO THE PARKED VEHICLE ALSO CAME OUT TO VERIFY THAT SHE HEARD A CAR'S ENGINE RACING/REVVING UP BEFORE THE ACTUAL IMPACT. THERE WERE OTHERS IN THE YARD (GRADUATION PARTY) ACROSS THE STREET THAT ALSO HEARD THE REVVING/RACING ENGINE BEFORE THEY HEARD THE IMPACT/CRASH. THERE WAS NO FAULT OF MINE THAT THIS CAR HAD A MIND OF IT'S OWN AND PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD AND THE BRAKES COULD NOT STOP IT FROM HITTING A PARKED CAR. I AM JUST GLAD THAT WE WERE NOT INJURED AND THAT NO ONE ELSE WAS HURT OR KILLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIFT-GATE LOCK MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT, ALL OF THE LIGHTS IN THE VEHICLE WERE ERRONEOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, ENGINE SHUTDOWN AND VEHICLE HAD IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER. NO VISIBLE ALERT FOR SURROUNDING TRAFFIC TO AVOID COLLISION. ENGINE DID NOT TURN OFF, BUT ACCELERATION WAS NOT POSSIBLE. I TURNED THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED, AND WAS ABLE TO PROCEED AT NORMAL SPEED ONTO THE INTERSTATE BEFORE IT OCCURRED AGAIN. DEALERSHIP THOUGHT THEY HAD IT FIXED ON MONDAY. THEY SAID IT WAS A COMPUTER COMMUNICATION ISSUE AND THEY RESET IT. THEIR TEST DRIVER HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE SHOP. NEXT DAY, THEY REPEATED YESTERDAY'S FIX, TOLD ME TO PICK IT UP. I HAD A FRIEND DRIVE IT, WHILE I FOLLOWED. WE MADE IT 5 MILES BEFORE IT SHUT DOWN ON THE INTERSTATE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I USED MY TRUCK TO BLOCK TRAFFIC SO WE COULD MAKE IT TO THE MEDIAN. DEALERSHIP HAD IT TOWED BACK. ONE WEEK LATER, THE DEALER SAYS IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT ARE NOT CONFIDENT IT IS SAFE TO RELEASE, AND ARE NOT POSITIVE THAT'S THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ MANY BLOGS ON FORD'S COMPUTER OR FUEL RELATED ISSUES THAT APPEAR SIMILAR, YET WITH SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS. MY CONCERN IS SAFETY. I AM LOOKING FOR A SAFE VEHICLE I CAN TRADE WITH CONFIDENCE THAT IT WILL NOT CAUSE THE NEXT OWNER TO CRASH. *TR
THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS THAT MY FORD EDGE HAS STALLED. THE FIRST TWO TIMES WERE ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 55MPH. THIS TIME WAS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD GOING 35MPH. CAR JUST SPORADICALLY GOES "LIMP" AND LOSES ALL ACCELERATION, WITH WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON. HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD EACH TIME. FORD REFUSES TO FIX. THEY KEEP SAYING THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I'M GOING TO GET KILLED IN THIS CAR IF SOMETHING ISN'T DONE ABOUT IT. APPARENTLY I'M NOT THE ONLY CONSUMER WITH THIS ISSUE. *TR
