TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EDGE. WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED EVEN WHEN THE DOOR WAS SECURELY CLOSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000. UPDATED 09/21/15*LJ
AS IS COMMON WITH THE FORD EDGE, THE DOOR AJAR ISSUE APPEARED ON MY CAR ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THE DASHBOARD INDICATES THE DRIVER DOOR IS OPEN EVEN WHEN CLOSED. THIS IS A BIG HEADACHE AS THE ALARM GOES OFF EVERY TIME YOUR FOOT COMES OFF THE BREAK AFTER A STOP. THE KEYLESS DOOR LOCKS ALSO DO NOT FUNCTION WITH AN "OPEN" DOOR. BEYOND THE HEADACHE, YOU HAVE THE SAFETY ISSUES. IF THE CAR THINKS THE DOOR IS OPEN, THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT ENGAGE. ADDITIONALLY, IN THE EVENINGS THE DOME LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON BECAUSE IT THINKS YOU ARE IN THE CAR WITH THE DOOR OPEN. THIS COULD EASILY LEAVE YOU STRANDED WITH A DEAD BATTERY. I ENDED UP TAKING IT INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS CHARGED $560 TO REPLACE THE LATCH.
INTERMITTENT, THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON-WHEN THE DOOR IS REALLY CLOSED-IT MAKES THE DOME LIGHTS STAY ON AND THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK. THIS IS REFERRING THE PASSENGER DOOR BEHIND THE DRIVER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL MULTIPLE TIMES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,285.
DOOR AJAR COMES ON WHEN I START THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSES THE DOME LIGHT TO COME ON AND I CAN ONLY GET THE SENSOR TO GO OFF WHEN I DRIVE FORWARD AND OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING. AT NIGHT, THE DOME LIGHT PREVENTS ME FROM SEEING BEHIND ME WHEN REVERSING, BUT I'M UNABLE TO USE MY "TRICK" OF GOING FORWARD AND OPENING AND CLOSING THE DOOR TO GET THE SENSOR TO GO OFF UNTIL I AM FULLY BACKED UP. THE SENSOR ALSO TELLS MY VEHICLE THAT THE DOOR IS OPEN EVEN WHEN I EXIT THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE DOME LIGHT TO STAY ON ALL NIGHT AND I'M WORRIED ABOUT IT DRAINING THE BATTERY.
DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED. THIS CAUSES A DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVE BECAUSE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ILLUMINED WHEN DRIVING. VERY SERIOUS AND THE DEALER WANTS OVER 650 TO FIX THE ISSUE.
THE DOOR LATCH LIGHT STAYS ON DURNING DRIVE TIME, IT PREVENTS LOCKED DOORS AND LIGHT ON MIRRORS AND INTERIOR LIGHT STAY ON. I HAVE READ THERE IS MULTIPLE FORD EDGE DRIVERS WITH SAME SAFTETY ISSUE. [XXX] WITHOUT INJURY OR CHANGE BY US TO THE CAR, THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING BEGAN SHOWING UP IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DOOR IS SECURELY CLOSED. THE WARNING IS ON THE PANEL, THE WARNING BEEP IS SOUNDING, AND THE INTERIOR LIGHT REMAINS ON UNTIL YOU DRIVE FORWARD ABOUT 30 FEET. THIS MAKES BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACES, DRIVEWAYS, ETC DIFFICULT BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO SEE WHERE YOU ARE GOING BECAUSE OF THE BRIGHT LIGHT. TYPICAL "DOOR IS AJAR" ERROR MESSAGE. UPON CLOSING THE DOOR, THE ERROR MESSAGE "DOOR IS AJAR" POPS UP AND THE DOME LIGHTS STAY ON WITH THE CHIMES RINGING. I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE "SHIFT TO PARK". I BELIEVE THESE COULD BE RELATED. FORD DEALER REPLACED THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY BUT THIS DIDN'T SOLVE MY PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS RECALLED AS THOUSANDS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAFTEY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE!
CAR WOULD LOSE POWER, RUN SLUGGISH AND SHUT OFF, WHEN RESTART, LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING COMES UP, DRIVE CAR AND WARNING GOES OFF, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON THEN MYSTERIOUSLY SHUTS OFF AND CAR DRIVES FINE UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN, STARTED HAPPENING PERIODICALLY MONTHLY THEN WENT TO EVERY FEW DAYS
THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VIBRATE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE AT MODERATE SPEEDS.
DOOR LATCH SENSOR DRIVER SIDE FRONT
WHENEVER I ENTRY THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPT TO CLOSE THE DRIVERS DOOR, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. IF I DON'T CONTINUE TO CLOSE THE DOOR (AT LEAST 4 TIMES) THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON. THE CAR TELLS ME TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK. WHEN I LOCK IT WITH THE REMOTE, IT WILL BEEP TWICE INSTEAD OF ONCE, A WARNING THAT THE CAR IS NOT SECURE. I CAN NO LONGER LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DRIVERS SIDE BY USING MY HAND IF THE KEY IS ON MY PERSON. I CAN DO THAT FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. MY ALARM GOES OFF AS MY CAR IS SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY. I HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. IT IS A FAULTY DRIVER DOOR SWITCH. SPEAKING WITH FORD DIRECTLY AND THE DEALER, I AM TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED BECAUSE MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS OCCURRING BECAUSE THE SWITCH IS FAULTY. WHEN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, IT APPEARS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND A SAFETY ISSUE. I PURCHASED THIS EXPENSIVE FORD NEW AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT SERVICED AT THE DEALERS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD DOES NOT SEE THIS AS A PROBLEM AND ACTIVE A RECALL. THANK YOU.
DOOR SENSOR MALFUNCTIONING. DOOR ALARM AND LIGHTS CONTINUE TO STAY ON AFTER DOOR IS CLOSED.
MY 2012 FORD EDGE, DRIVERS DOOR ADJAR SWITCH ,KEEPS INDICATING THE DOOR IS OPEN,WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED, BECAUSE OF OTHER ACCESSORIES ATTACHED TO THIS SWITCH ,IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT ,TO DRIVE AT NIGHT, THE BUZZER NOSE ,MAKE YOU TURN THE RADIO UP SO YOU WANT HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE NOISE, AND THE DOME LIGHTS STAYS ON WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING, AND THE INSTRUMENT INFO KEEPS GOING BACK TO THE ISSUE, ALSO SO IT TELLS YOU TO PUT CAR IN PARK DOOR ADJAR, AFTER RESEARCHING THIS EVERYONE TELLS ME TO BREAK THE SWITCH, BECAUSE IF YOU FIX IT , IT WILL KEEP COMING BACK, BECAUSE THE MECHANISM THAT WORKS THE SWITCH IS POORLY MAD, WHEN THE PLASTIC WEARS, IT WILL NOT OPEN FULLY TO COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT.
6-2-2015: I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN. I STEPPED ON BRAKES AND WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE. I WENT THRU THE STOP SIGN ON MAJOR ROADWAY AT 30 MPH. I WAS HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND 3 PEOPLE, MYSELF INCLUDED, WERE INJURED. I OWNED THE VEHICLE LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. MY FIRST FORD IN YEARS. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT A BRAKE BOOSTER PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND HAS NOT RECALLED THE VEHICLE. FORD'S FIX IS TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE EDGE AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SALVAGED. I TALKED WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS TOO BAD FOR YOU. I WANTED THE BRAKE BOOSTER CHECKED OUT. FORD SHOULD BE RECALLING ALL THE EFFECTED VEHICLES NOW, BEFORE SOMEBODY IS KILLED. THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 50 COMPLAINTS FILED WITH NHTSA SINCE 2012.
THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE SHOWS ON THE DASH WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED. AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS THE SENSOR DOES NOT READ THE DOOR BEING CLOSED. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY BIG ISSUE THAT REQUIRES A RECALL DUE TO SAFETY SINCE IT IS PART OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
DOOR LATCH SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. "DOOR AJAR" LIGHT WILL GO ON, EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS PROPERLY CLOSED. IT IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING BECAUSE IT KEEPS BEEPING DURING DRIVING AND KEEPS TELLING ME TO SHIFT TO PARK WHILE IN MOTION.
DRIVERS DOOR AJAR WARNING WILL NOT GO OFF. THIS IS MAKING THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON, THE DOOR WON'T LOCK WILL IN THE CAR. NEED HELP IN GETTING THIS TO BE HANDLED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY.

DOOR AJAR SENSOR STAYS ON. INTERIOR LIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF AND EVERY TIME I STOP IT ASKS TO BE SHIFT TO PARK. EVERY TIME SENSOR MALFUNCTIONS IT PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM BEING LOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AS A CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE AND 3MONTHS AFTER I WAS AT THE DEALER TRYING TO GET IT FIXED. I WAS CHARGED A CO PAYMENT OFF $100 AND 3 MONTHS AFTER THE SAME PROBLEM PERSISTS. NOW MY WARRANTY IS OVER AND I'M BEING CHARGED $400+ TO GET IT FIXED.
MY FORD EDGE,2012, HAD A "DOOR AJAR" WARNING AND IT REQUIRED SLAMMING THE DOOR VERY HARD TO GET THE WARNING REMOVED. MY LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON AFTER I PARKED AND AGAIN REQUIRE SLAMMING THE DOOR MULTIPLE TIMES. MY BACK UP CAMERA WILL WORK AND THEN NOT WORK MAKING THAT SAFETY FEATURE UNRELIABLE! I HAD THE DOOR LATCH REPLACED AT A COST OF 325 DOLLARS. OTHER FORD PRODUCTS HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THESE PROBLEMS AND ARE UNDER A RECALL. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE IS NOT THE RESULT OF CARELESS TREATMENT BY MY WIFE OR ME. WE ARE BOTH OVER 70 YEARS OLD.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: MY VEHICLE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE WHETHER MY DOOR IS OPENED OR CLOSED. I AM ALWAYS CONCERNED THAT EVEN SHUTTING IT MAY LEAD TO ISSUES BECAUSE THE ALERT IS SAYING ITS NOT IS NOT CLOSED. WILL MY DOOR RADOMLY OPEN ON THE HIGHWAY? IF IM IN AND ACCIDENT WILL I BE THROWN OUT OF THE CAR? I HAVE CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND EVEN PUT MY CAR IN THE SHOP TWICE. THEY GAVE A TEMPORARY FIX AND REALLY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD ABOUT IT AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE RECALLED IN ORDER THEM TO LOOK IN TO THE ISSUE. MY GIRLFRIEND PURCHASE THE CAR AT THE SAME TIME AND SHE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH NOT ONLY HER DRIVERS DOOR BUT HER PASSENGER DOORS WHICH COULD ENDANGER HE CHILDREN. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. WE ARE AFRAID THAT THIS ISSUE COULD POTENTIALLY HURT ALOT OF PEOPLE.

I AM CONSTANTLY HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE LEFT REAR DOOR SENSOR TELLING ME THE DOOR IS AJAR. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THIS DOOR HAS BEEN OPENED OR NOT.

DOOR AJAR WARNING, DOME LIGHT STAYS ON, DOOR DOES NOT LOCK WITH KEY PAD, DOOR DOES NOT STAY LOCKED FROM THE INSIDE. WHEN CLOSING THE DOOR, THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING LIGHTS UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, A WARNING CHIMES, THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON, AND THE DOORS CANNOT BE LOCKED FROM THE INSIDE (OR WHEN EXISTING THE CAR, THE KEYPAD BECOMES INOPERATIVE). NO AMOUNT OF SLAMMING, CLOSING GENTLY OR MULTIPLE CLOSING OF DOOR RECTIFIES THE CONDITION. HAVE TAKEN CAR TO DEALERSHIP, THEY WEREN'T AWARE OF ANY PROBLEM, SAID THERE WAS DIRT BUILD UP, SO THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, CLEANED SOMETHING AND CHARGED $120 TO TELL ME TO KEEP THE LOCK MECHANISM CLEAN. THAT LASTED FOR ABOUT A MONTH. STILL HAVING PROBLEM WITH THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING LIGHT

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE SENSOR IN THE DOOR THAT CONFIRMS THE DOOR IS CLOSED AND LOCKED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING BECAME INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO BRING TO A STOP. THIS OCCURRED WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF A DEALER MULTI-POINT INSPECTION/SERVICING. BRAKES SEIZED UP AND I WOULD HAVE TO SLAM DOWN ON THEM TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. PROBLEM ONSET IN A PARKING LOT AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND ACTUALLY STRUCK A PARKING BUMPER. APPARENTLY MY BRAKE BOOSTER REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. UNLIKE ASSERTED IN FORD'S 13N02 BULLETIN, THIS DID AFFECT ABILITY TO BRAKE AND ONSET WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY DEFECT.
OUR FORD EDGE DOOR LATCH CONTINUES TO FAIL STATING THE DOOR IS OPEN. THE ALARM SOUNDS FREQUENTLY AND DISTRACTING TO THE DRIVER. I TOOK THE CAR IN MULTIPLE TIMES AND FORD WOULD ONLY AUTHORIZE A CLEANING. FINALLY THE CAR WENT OUT OF WARRANTY AND I HAD THE PART REPLACED. FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE WARNING SOUND DISTRACTS THE DRIVER.
THE DRIVER'S DOOR WILL NOT REGISTER CLOSED. THIS LEADS TO A SERIES OF ISSUES INCLUDING THE DOME LIGHT STAYING LIT (DISTRACTING DURING DRIVING AND KILLS BATTERY), CONSTANT ALARMS (DISTRACTING) GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHILE DRIVING. THE LAST ISSUE WAS NOT APPARANT UNTIL MY 3 YEAR OLD OPENED THE REAR DOOR WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING. I ATTEMPTED TO MANUALLY LOCK THE DOORS AND THEY WOULD NOT LOCK. WHEN PRESENTED TO FORD WE WERE GIVEN A QUOTE OF $500 AND DESPITE THIS BEING AN ISSUE IN OTHER MODELS WHERE ITS BEEN RECALLED, THEY OFFERED NO CONCESSION TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. THE INABILITY TO LOCK THE DOORS WILL PROVE DEADLY IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT PART OF A RECALL.

THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR IN MY FORD EDGE ALWAYS READ AS OPEN, EVEN WHEN THE DOOR WAS CLOSED. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN WHEN I AM NOT IN THE CAR, DRAINING THE BATTERY. ALSO, THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN I AM IN THE CAR, CAUSING A SECURITY CONCERN DEPENDING ON WHERE I AM DRIVING. I BOUGHT A NEW LATCH MECHANISM TO REPLACE THE FAULTY ONE. WHEN I REMOVED THE FAULTY ONE, I NOTICED THAT IT HAD FILLED WITH WATER, WHICH IS WHAT WAS CAUSING THE MALFUNCTION. I WAS ABLE TO INSTALL THE NEW ONE AND IT WORKS NOW, BUT THIS SEEMS LIKE AN ISSUE THAT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN SOON.
IT STARTED IN MAY 2015 WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DRIVER DOOR, THE SCREEN WILL ALWAYS DISPLAY "DRIVER DOOR AJAR" AND SHOWING THE CAR ICON SHOWING THE DRIVER DOOR OPEN, AND ALL DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK WHETHER AT FULL STOP OR WHEN MOVING. THE DASHBOARD SCREEN WILL DISPLAY ALSO "SHIFT TO PARK" INTERCHANGEABLY WITH "DRIVER DOOR AJAR" WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL KEEP ON FOR ABOUT 30 MINS WHEN IN MOTION AND WHEN THE CAR ENGINE IS ALREADY OFF.
SAFETY ISSUE REGARDING DOOR LATCH AND DOOR AJAR SENSOR. SENSOR HAS FAILED AND CONTINUES TO THINK THE DOOR IS AJAR WHICH CAUSES THE DOORS NOT ABLE TO LOCK, AND THE INTERIOR LIGHT STAYS ON AND CAUSES WINDSHIELD GLARE WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU CANNOT LOCK THE DOORS FOR PROTECTION AND YOU CAN'T SEE PROPERLY TO DRIVE AT NIGHT.
WHEN DRIVER'S DOOR IS CLOSED, THE "DOOR AJAR" LIGHT IS STILL ON THE DISPLAY. YOU CAN SLAM THE DOOR HARD SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WILL GO OFF. MANY TIMES, IT REAPPEARS AFTER YOU BEGIN DRIVING. THE INTERIOR LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE SLOWLY MOVING, EVENTUALLY THE INSIDE LIGHT TURNS OFF BUT WHEN YOU STOP, THE CAR STARTS DINGING AND READS "PUT VEHICLE IN PARK" I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WHEN LEAVING A DRIVEWAY OR PARKING LOT AT NIGHT, YOU CANNOT SEE ANYTHING AROUND YOU OUTSIDE BECAUSE OF THE INTERIOR LIGHT REMAINING ON UNTIL YOU REACH A SPEED OF AROUND 10-15 MPH. I'M WORRIED THAT I MAY STRIKE AN OBJECT OR PERSON BECAUSE OF VISIBILITY ISSUES.

FORD MAINTENANCE REPLACED/REPAIR FAULTY DOOR LATCH ON 1/2016 AND CHARGED $317.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN BY OUR LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THE BRAKES FELT LIKE THEY WERE NOT WORKING AND THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO STOP! THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET IT TO STOP WAS TO PUSH VERY HARD. THANK THE GOOD LORD THAT I DIDN'T HAVE TO STOP ON A DIME FOR A CHILD WALKING ACROSS THE SCHOOL! THE BRAKES ARE STILL THAT WAY TODAY AND IT IS NOT SAFE AT ALL TO DRIVE. WE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL SHOP TO VERIFY THAT THE BRAKES PADS WERE OK, WHICH THEY WERE. WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR OUR LOCAL FORD SHOP. AFTER REVIEWING MANY COMPLAINTS, IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, (BRAKE BOOSTER) AND FORD NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL ON THIS. WE HAVE ALREADY SPEND $75 HAVING THE SHOP LOOK AT THE BRAKE PADS, AND NOW IT WILL PROBABLY COST US ANOTHER $300-$400, WHICH IS NOT RIGHT FOR A VEHICLE THAT HAS LESS THAN 45,000 MILES ON IT AND IS A 2012. NHTSA NEEDS TO CONTACT FORD AND MAKE THEM RECALL THIS, AS IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE ARE SO MANY OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND SOMEONE CAN BE KILLED OVER THIS!
