Ford Edge (2016) was experiencing a loud ticking/knocking noise during idling and after startup. A short period after the noise started the vehicle became disabled completely on the roadway. The vehicle is out of the five-year warranty period by a year, but still within the mileage period (currently has 46,700 miles, with the limit being 50,000). The 2017 model of the same vehicle has a recall for the same issue, but Ford is not acknowledging the issue for 2016 models.
When getting tires rotated found out that the lug nuts on my wheels had expanded and had to get them removed by force. Found out this has been occurring to other Ford vehicles for years. Now I have replacement lug nuts that extend too far out and if hitting a curb or something would definitely ruin the wheel. Should not be having this type of issue at my expense for faulty lug nuts.
Moonroof multiple times has failed to close leaving car open on top. Weather moved in and put tarp but need to have it where I can close the moonroof.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant leaking into cylinder #4. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
May 31, 2022 My check-engine light came on a few days earlier. I took it in to my automotive repair shop for a diagnostic to determine the issue. It was determined that cylinder #4 was misfiring. The coil was identified as faulty and replaced. Diagnostic cost: $149.99 Replacement coil parts and labor: $163.75 June 2, 2022 Check-engine light comes on again. automotive repair shop replaces the spark plug in cylinder #4 as a precaution, even though the spark plugs were less than a year old. No charge. June 6, 2022 Check-engine light comes on again. This time I mentioned to the mechanic that the car briefly misfires after it sits overnight. I could also smell a coolant odor. This was their “ah-hah” moment. They removed the plug from cylinder #4, pressurized the coolant system and noticed coolant leaking into the cylinder. A phone call to Ford confirmed that this was an issue and the only repair; engine replacement. June 7, 2022 – June 17, 2022 The engine was replaced. Total cost: $6,543.59 While I waited, I scoured the Internet and did some research into this issue. I found that I am not the only one who has had this problem. This is an issue with the Ford 2.0 Liter Turbocharged engine, even at miles much less than my 121,958.
Lug nuts on vehicle were swollen and wound not come off according to the dealer. This is a known defect by the dealer and Ford Motor Company. All lug nuts have to be forcefully removed and replaced at owners expense. There should have been a recall on this known issue already.
The electronic emergency/parking brake has failed/malfunctioned. After searching online, I discovered that other people have the same issue. As I recall, at least one of the posters said that a Ford technician told them that the wiring harness was made too short and the wires rub on the frame and fray causing an electrical short which renders the emergency brake useless. This appears to be a manufacturer's defect, in my opinion.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined a failure with the spark plugs. The spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact then took the vehicle back to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that coolant was leaking into the engine. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in an unknown recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
My brakes began leaking. I noticed this when the pedal sank to the floor during a prolonged deceleration and I had to pump the brakes to successfully stop the car. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms appeared prior to the soft brake pedal. I took the vehicle to a local dealer (Priority Ford in Norfolk VA, see invoice for phone and address), who diagnosed it as leaking rear brake lines and replaced two lines. My safety and the safety of others was certainly put at risk. The reason I knew how to recognize and respond to the brake leak was that it has happened to me before -- my 2016 Ford Edge had a front brake line fail earlier, prior to Ford issuing a safety recall for front brake line leaks. Now my rear brake lines have failed... I suspect it warrants a similar safety recall.
On May 13, 2022, my Ford Edge was taken to the Local Ford Dealer for a spoiled coil. At 52,000 miles, the coolant had leaked into the cylinders and caused the engine block to crack. This resulted in me needing a whole new engine. Thankfully, I had taken out an extended warranty on my vehicle or it would have cost me over $7500. I was told by the dealership that this is a known problem with these Ecoboost engines. I have always taken excellent care of my ford edge and I cannot believe Ford has not been made to recall these engines. Most people don't have an extended warranty and they should not have to pay thousands of dollars for an obvious faulty engine.
The contact's wife owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the air bag in the steering wheel would suddenly detach causing the air bag to fall from the housing. The contact had to manually install the air bag into the housing. The contact stated that the failure recurred while turning the steering wheel. The dealer had not been contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000. The dealer was contacted and fixed the issue at no cost.
EVAP purge valve failure
Went to Costco to have my tires rotated. They advised that my lug nuts were swollen and could not be removed with the tools they had. They suggested buying after market lug nuts as this was a known issue with Ford lug nuts.
My parking brake, ABS, and Traction Control (ESC) warning lights all illuminate even when not engaged (Parking Brake states engaged even while driving.) Traction Control (ESC) on/off indicators illuminate opposite of engagement/unengagement (no correlation between.) Identical symptoms from NHTSA recall #16V733000. My car was manufactured right during that timeframe when my make/model/year were deemed loaded with improper ABS/ESC computer software. I brought it into Ford repeatedly and it was incorrectly diagnosed as a faulty E-Brake switch, only to give me my vehicle back and E-Brake could not be unengaged while they returned me the keys in the lot. They looked at it again and stated my ABS Module was broken causing my parking brake actuators to now be faulty resulting in my rear rotors to be worn down to unsafe driving levels. The best reason they could give me for a faulty ABS Module was "lightning strike." I called Ford Customer Care and asked if my car was overlooked in this recall before sold to me and they originally said it was (told me it was manufactured in Ontario,Canada) but then called back to tell me it wasn't one of the vehicles affected. I am deafly afraid that my braking system will fail as I am driving.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated after starting the vehicle, the vehicle was vibrating while the check engine warning light was illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle was vibrating, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant was leaking and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
The power transfer unit cracked. It will cost $2200 plus the cost of the tow truck and a rental car for 7 days. We got very lucky that my son was driving at a low speed and was able to stop. This failure could’ve caused a major accident and resulted in his death had it happened just a few minutes earlier.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start smoothly and started rough. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that they could not replicate the failure. However, upon opening the hood, the independent mechanic diagnosed that the spark plugs were corroded, the engine block was fractured and leaking antifreeze, causing damage to the engine. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and confirmed the diagnostic test result. The contact referenced Ford Technical Service Bulletin Number: 19-2346. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 79,800.
5 days after front brake hose replacement due to rupture and subsequent replacement by Petrus Ford in Stuttgart, AR after finding out about recall, rear passenger side brake hose ruptured.

The contact was informed that the front driver’s side brake hose and the rear driver’s and passenger’s side calipers needed to be replaced. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic but experienced the failure a second time. The contact took the vehicle back to the independent mechanic and was informed that the front driver’s side brake hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the passenger’s side front wheel. Additionally, the vehicle was stalling while attempting to accelerate. The check engine and power train warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed with a failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The approximate failure mileage was 110,336.
I purchased this vehicle used from a dealership and I have had it for six months and now I was going to replace the break shoes front and back. Now the problem came when I tried to remove the lug nuts and I could not! Ford decided to put metal caps over all lug nuts and failed to tell the customers that they can not get them off with the standard equipment given by factory. There is no lug wrench or socket that will fit the lug nuts with the caps on them. Here is the “rub” I called the dealership and the service technician said “ to get a oversized socket and bang it on and then remove each lug nut , then replace all of them with new ones without the caps on them.” WOW. Ford has to know that this is a issue everyone that owns one has the same issue. Now imagine getting a flat on the interstate with the family at 1:30am.Now you would have to have the vehicle towed and find a ride at 1:30am. Now that would be a 15 minute job if Ford would do a recall and replace all of these ignorant lug nuts. Wow what a waste of time and money. I don’t know maybe Ford did not want the customers to remove the wheels never. Please help

Brake pedal went straight to floor and no brakes. The emergency brake did not work either. Fluid near right rear wheel.
I am submitting this complaint due to concerns that others might start having the same issues that I am experiencing. My Ford Edge 2016 with just a little over 58,000 miles has a Timing Cover Oil Seal (MTCS), a Transfer Case Input Shaft Seal (FTCI), and the Axle Seal (FRAS) leaking. This is very sad that a vehicle with this few of miles has all these issues already. I am sure my Edge is not the only one having these issues. This vehicle does even leave hardball roads nor does it drove hard. I can't image what it would be like if I was rough on my vehicles. Jason
Engine went out last year and now this year it sounds like the flex plate and potentially the flywheel are cracked and need to be replaced. I am concerned that it was broken or was affected when my engine went out or was not balanced correctly.
Car kept misfiring and it sounded like water was running when the car was on. After multiple attempts to find a solution I took it to a Ford dealership to remedy the issue and it ended up needing a full engine replacement due to coolant leaking into the engine. The engine failed, they told me there was no way to prevent it because the seals were not fully sealing. Thankfully it did not cause for me but could have caused sudden loss of power, stalled acceleration on highways, failure of power steering and braking systems. The dealership acknowledged that it was an ongoing issue when they serviced it. Unknown. Not that I ever noticed however someone with more car knowledge MAY have been able to see warning signs.
The contact's wife owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking coolant. The contact also stated that the vehicle would shake and hesitate upon the depression of the accelerator pedal with the check engine light illuminated. The contact then used a code reader and discovered that there was a misfire on cylinder 3 due to coolant leaking into that cylinder. Upon further investigation, he discovered a service bulletin that was related to the failure. The contact discovered that the engine needed to be replaced due to the failure. The contact had spoken to the dealer and the manufacturer and was informed that there were no recalls on his vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

Lug nut swelling dealer said not under warranty Costco said common complaint please consider recall. I have to spend a couple hundred bucks to get fixed. Thanks
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon entering her garage, there were shards of glass near the rear end of the vehicle. Upon further inspection, she discovered that the broken glass came from the rear windshield. The contact stated that the failure occurred without incident. The contact initially called the dealer and they informed her that they were unaware of such failure; they also informed her that there were no recalls on her vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided her with the same information as the dealer. She was then referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
Coolant leaking into combustion chamber causes check engine light to come on. Dealer says requires a new engine. Is so prevalent they told me what was wrong before even looking at it. Ford refuses to do a recall and fix the issue. Instead, they charge you for repair. Warranty expired 1 month prior.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. There was white smoke emerging from the exhaust. The contact stated that the engine was making a whining sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed there was coolant in the cylinder. On 12-25-2021 I was driving my 2016 Ford Edge Titanium andthe check engine light came on. I took the car to a Ford dealer , they said they could not look at it till Momnday12-28-2021 they checked it out and told me the engine coolant leaked into the engine causing the engine to be replaced. They said they would run a compression check just to make sure. After waiting 1/2 a day, they told me yes, the engine had to be replaced the gasket was defective and caused the engine coolant to leak into the engine. The car has 56,400 miles and they told me to call Ford and maybe they would replace or give me some help on the cost. I called Ford and they told me car was out of warranty(which i knew) and they would do nothing. I am now on the hook for a bill for approx. $7,000. On the internet I found more than 72 complaints of the same thing happening and again Ford would do nothing. I was lucky I was not on a trip and got stranded out in the middle of no where. I feel it is Fords responsibility to see that this problem is taken care of. I do not understand why there has not been a recall on this problem,Why? If your engine stops running out on the highway you could be in for a grave accident. I know there is a Class Action lawsuit pending and like many big lawsuits they can take years to be resolved and who makes the money? the lawyers and then there will not be enough money left to pay back all these people who had to put out thousands to replace these motors. If the consumer wins there will probably be made some deal which will help Ford and the lawyers and then there will not be money left to help the consumer. Why don't you make a recall on this problem?
2018 Ford Edge Driving it Friday Dec 24th. Check engine light came on took it to Ford Dealer they said they could not get me in till Monday. Took in Monday Morning about a hour later they told me that the engine coolant leaked into the engine causing the engine to be replaced. They said they would run a Compression check just to make sure. Called this morning 12-28-2021 and said yes the engine had to be replaced the car has 56,400 miles and they told me to call Ford and maybe they would replace or give me some help Called Ford and they said Car is out of Warranty and they would do nothing. I am on the hook for approx $7,000.Checked on internet and found 72 complaints about the same problem. But yet there is no safety recall, Why? I was lucky I was in town , what if I had been on a trip. I feeel it is Fords responsibility to see that this problem is taken care of. I also read there was a Class Action Law Suit for this issue, I cannot find it on the internet I thought it would be on your website.
Rear Windshield shattered spontaneously. 28 degree morning 7am commuted to work without issue. 40 degrees sunny after work 4pm and glass was shattered. No foreign objects or impact.
Left rear brake line split like the front brake lines that have already been recalled
When driving and try to brake noticed that pedal distance has increased and was hard to stop the car. When stopped to review vehicle, noticed brake fluid on the right side of it. Take it to Ford dealer (CrossRoads Ford of Kernersville) and they confirmed rupture on right brake hose. Correction was to replace both front brake hoses. This failure is exactly the same as the one for safety recall "NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000". VIN for my vehicle is not part of recall however same failure happens with same risks, showing that Ford fails on tracking/providing accurate VIN numbers for this safety failure.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floor and did not reset which resulted in loss of braking. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the brake hoses replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 80,341.
I have issue with brake hoses rupture while driving and loose brake capability (as Ford did not include all VINs affected I had to paid for repair, now they issue Customer Satisfaction Program 22N02 and they do not want to refund). NHTSA must make sure Ford is responsible for their issues on a safety topic as they are clearly not being.
Lug nuts are 2 piece: The thread piece and the chrome head piece. The pieces became loose from each other, then the thread piece rusted and caused the chrome piece to swell and deform so the lug wrench could no longer fit on the lugnut, thus making it impossible to loosen. This can be a major problem when changing a flat tire. I needed to take my car to an auto mechanic to have several of the factory installed lugnuts replaced. I will need to buy replacement non-OEM lugnuts so this doesn’t happen any more. I read that this is a problem happening on many Ford vehicles.
My engine coolant got in one of engine coils causing engine to need to be replaced. There is a class action suit against Ford for this issue in the Edge.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the vehicle was running and closing or opening the door, the horn honked twice. There were no warning lights were illuminated. The contact called the local dealer who informed the contact about diagnostic fees. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified however, no further assistance was provided. The contact was concerned about the unauthorized use of the horn. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Broken Flywheel. 5 year/60,000 miles Warranty ended by date 4 months prior to diagnosis. Car currently has 57,000 miles. Took to dealer for engine rattle diagnostics exam. Was told it was the flywheel. Ford Technician stated it’s a common mechanical problem for this kind of vehicle. Ford is refusing to cover the repair. No prior warnings or messages presented to driver before or while engine rattle occurred. Was told to trade in the car as the flywheel can damage the engine thus totaling the vehicle.
IN novermber 2019 heard ratteling noise for engine took to dealer . they found a crack flex plate. they replaced the short block and transmission pump per the service bulletin this was at 56,000 miles. now at 86.000 same noise came back.to back to dealer same problem crack flex plate.the dealer and ford have both refused to cover this repair because it is now out of warrant.this is clearly a defective part that ford should have fixed and recall all cars with this engine. case#cas-34043931
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the rearview camera was inoperable while reversing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that a fee would be charged for the repair, but there was no guarantee that the repair would correct the failure. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where the rearview camera was replaced with an aftermarket part; however, the contact stated that the rearview camera was not operating as needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
I was driving from Phoenix Arizona to Tucson Arizona, about 1: 45 min drive, October 23rd, 2021, and all of the sudden the check engine lights turns on, and its getting hot, and the engine shuts down, I lose all power to the Steering , and brakes, now, i am going about 45 in a 75 lane, but people going 80 plus. and we are about 20 miles from home. WE finally able to pull over and check it out. I added water and let it cool down for about 30 mins, We took the frontage road driving around 30-35 miles per hour.. the light was on still but not over heating, till we got to the house when we saw the temperature going up, we shut it down,,, The next day i drove to a Mechanic close to the house, they ran the tests, and was advise that the engine had water in the motor, due to the engine being defective, they did tell us, that they have seen these a lot, in the edge and Escape, coming to their shop, took it to another mechanic (Ford Certified) and told us the same thing, no Good and you need to replace the engine at a cost of $6000- up to $8000.00, it only has 94k on the engine. they are seeing this across the USA. Its very dangerous, because when going 75 plus and your calls stalls out and slows down fast and cars and trucks had to go around us, some fish tailed almost out of control, we could have caused a MAJOR Pile up had not the car started for us to get to the side . God was with us, please look into this, We have the car parked, because we cant afford a new enginge. and still making payments on a CAR that done run thanks for your time rda
