Rough idling on start up and engine light came on. After taking car to a local repair shop, mechanic noticed that vehicle was consuming coolant and the engine was cracked. They advised taking it to dealer. Ford dealer confirmed diagnosis. Vehicle had 93304 miles on it and Ford has a Technical service bulletin out on it. Was originally quoted $6,000 to replace engine. After a lot of negotiating with Ford Customer Satisfaction Program, we paid $1,685 to replace engine. Ford has known about this issue for quite a while and in my opinion, should have issued a recall. There have been reports from others that the engine has caught fire.

Drivers side seatbelt won’t work. Won’t retract. Just hangs there
Coolant leaking in cylinders, white exhaust smoke, rough idle, coolant smell, diagnostic trouble code P0303 due to misfire. Safety hazard due to risk of engine failure or engine fire.
CAR WAS MISFIRING AND ROUGH STARTING WITH WHITE SMOKE OUT OF THE EXHAUST. TOOK IT TO MY SERVICE ADVISOR AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS ISSUE WITH THE COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE AND THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. THEY USED A TEMPORARY FIX WITH A K-SEAL UNTIL WE DECIDED ON WHAT TO DO. I RECENTLY SEARCHED ABOUT THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS LEAK COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO OVERHEAT AND CATCH FIRE WHICH IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT FORD HAD A RECALL ON THIS ON ECOBOOST TYPE ENGINE WITH OTHER MODELS. I CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY ARE NOT SHOWING A RECALL. MY CAR IS IN GREAT SHAPE AND HAS 108,000 MILES. READING THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME FORD EDGE 2.0 ECOBOOST ENGINE PROBLEMS AND THE DANGER WITH THE RISK OF FIRE SHOULD BE CAUSE FOR THIS TO BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL IN WHICH FORD SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, she heard a rattling sound under the hood of the vehicle. The radiator fluid was disappearing. Could not find a leak. Took it to the dealer and they indicated that the fluid was leaking into #2 cylinder from a crack in the engine long block. Therefore, if the vehicle was continued to be driven it could cause a potential fire. Ford has a TSB on this vehicle( TSB # 22-2229 and 22-2133. It is now undriveable and Ford has not done a recall. Cost to repair is $8,600.00!!!!!! Ford dealer says it is a manufacturer defect.
My 2016 Ford Edge Titanium had a blown brake line so I took it in for repairs which is where I discovered that there was a head gasket leak and that the coolant reservoir was empty, and the axil was leaking. There were no puddles or other obvious indicators that there was anything wrong with the head gasket. No engine lights/codes were showing up. The mechanic at the Ford Dealership quoted me $5k to fix the head gasket and $10k for all of the repairs to include the brake line and 4 new tires. I have owned this car for 4 years and have had it serviced regularly.
In September/October of 2022 my passenger side right real break line ruptured. Not even a month later my front right brake line ruptured. Today my left rear brake line ruptured. All 3 times my pedal went to the floor, making it dangerously difficult to actually stop my car endangering my life and the lives of those around me on the road. No light has come on to indicate there's a problem with my braking system, any of the 3 times that this has occurred.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the contact lost control of the vehicle. The contact was able to regain control of the vehicle and the vehicle started to operate normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 63,115.
A 3nd flexible brake line blew out and I lost my brakes for the 3nd time on this vehicle. The first two lines that blew out were both left and right front. This 3rd one was in the rear and as a result I instructed my mechanic to replace both rear lines. Again and luckily no one was injured or crash occurred as a result of this failure which put my wife and I at a great risk. We were able to slowly and carefully bring the car to our mechanic immediately thus no tow was required. No police or first responders were needed. There was no indication of failure until the brake pedal went immediately all the way to the floor. This is my third filing report and the story is the same for the prior cases of 11512958 and 11512963.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH and turning into a parking lot, the contact depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact applied an excessive amount of pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal went to the floorboard before the vehicle stopped. The contact continued driving to the residence. After parking the vehicle, the low brake fluid warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to add brake fluid and became aware that the fluid level was not low. The contact noticed that the brake was still malfunctioning. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and noticed and became aware that there was brake fluid underneath the rear of the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed that the brake hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer confirmed that the failure was like NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. MY VEHICLE HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT PURCHASED NEW AND ALWAYS MAINTAINED AT A CERTIFIED FORD DEALER. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AN ERROR CODE CAME UP ON THE DASH ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT. MY STEERING WHEEL WENT OFF CENTER TURNED TO THE LEFT. I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE AND THERE WAS A BULLETIN FROM FOR IN 2019 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OWNERS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE NOTIFIED AND WE WERE NOT. DELAERS WERE SUPPOSED TO FIX THIS IF LETTERS WERE NOT RECEIVED WHEN SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. I AM DOING ALOT OF READING AND DELAER SAYS COMPUTER MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED 2600.00. ON LINE FORUMS SAY STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT. VERY FRUSTRATING TO HAVE A CAR WITH LOW MILES WITH A DANGEROUS UNSAFE SITUATION AND DELAER SAYS REPAIR THROUGH FORD IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE THAT THE PROGRAM EXPIRED.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal would depress to the floorboard as the brake fluid warning light would appear on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics where the brake master cylinder, brake calipers, brake booster, and ABS system were all replaced; however, the failure returned soon after each repair. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics); however, the repair failed to correct the brake issue. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
2-28-2023 Engine Failed on Ford Edge 2016. Car failed on freeway I-91 South in Hartford, Connecticut--engine seized. Service Bulletin outlined the defect was causing engine failure and in some cases, igniting the engine (causing vehicle fires) As a consumer, I have a right to know if the part replaced was a newly designed part, or of one with the same design flaw. The defective part, as outlines in Ford’s Service Bulletin 2222-29 issued Globally to Ford service stations, this part has cause failure and seize of engine while operating cars, as well as ignited fires in autos. Ford Motor Corp. not providing, nor Ford Dealership Service Station providing the following: An official document, in writing, Warranty Information in Official Document As promised by Ford Corporate, Two-Year (2) Full Coverage, Full Replacement Cost of Engine, regardless of miles In writing, details of the engine component replaced in our Ford Edge Was the same engine that failed, and outlined in Ford’s Service Bulletin 2222-29 placed in my car? Or, was a newly designed engine component placed in my car, not the same component/design that caused the engine failure?
When you start the car it acts as if it wants to bogg down and stall out going down road. Took car to ford and they said,"oh, we have a service bulletin on this car for coolant getting into the engine causing engine to over heat or misfire, it is a defect in the 2.0 ecoboost engines, and we have to replace your engine for 7,600." This is in multiple vehicles, class action law suits, engines over heating, some catch fire. Ford needs to be investigated for defective motors in these vehicles.

Lug nuts were swollen and they informed me I would not be able to change a tire with a manual tire iron and it was unsafe as two were completely stripped. Only 70k on the vehicle. Cost over $100 to repair. Seems like a common complaint so thought it prudent to report same.
APIM Module. We inquired with Ford about upgrading our Sync system to include navigation. A parts specialist at Livermore Ford indicated the upgrade could be made by adding a new USB hub and upgrading the software. We then noticed the last software update was marked completed in 2003 (on a 2016 model year vehicle). We confirmed the Wifi was connected and tried to initiate an auto software update, but there was no option to do so. We followed the directions per the Ford website for a wifi or manual update, to no avail. The third Ford recommendation is to take it to a dealer. On Jan 16, 2023, I took the vehicle to Sunnyvale Ford. The radio and screen were functioning without any issues. I showed the associate the software page and where it said 2003 was the last update, I showed him there was no "update now" button offered and the memory stick I had attempted to upgrade with via the usb hub.I asked them to update the software and indicated there was clearly a defect in that the software version date and the fact it never updated over WiFi as it is supposed to. The associate later called and told me they performed a software update and as a result they crashed the entire APIM Module. After much discussion the sales associate and the sales manager indicated there was nothing they would do and returned my vehicle which was brought to them with an operational radio and screen (which also operates bluetooth and the back up camera), no longer working.Clearly there was an existing defect in the system and granted it had not been discovered in the early years of ownership or warranty, but none the less; they faulted the system.I attempted software updates two ways and my screen and radio still worked when I took it to Sunnyvale Ford. Obviously, I do not know their exact action taken but a mistake was made or a Ford part/system. Ford states my only recourse is to purchase a $600 APIM which is on indefinite backorder. Therefore, I am seeking recourse via other avenues
I have had several instances where I am driving thru the city just fine but when I go to accelerate and merge into traffic my car will not go past 35. all the lights come on and I basically have to coast to the side of the road. Every time this has happened, by the time I get my car to the dealership it is driving fine, the lights turn off and no codes are displaying. They have said it was probably gas or something since there were no codes. My husband and I use the same gas and his car is fine. it is just my Edge. It is like my car goes into limp mode for no reason and I have to turn the engine off and back on, put it in reverse and then drive in order to even go again.

Started months ago on the highway, now in the streets too. Press the gas, car goes then suddenly loses power. Going at 60 mph on highway, car suddenly starts to go slow, and pressing the gas doesn't move the car not even a mile higher. Semi trucks begin to honk horns at you. Afraid now to take highway again. Soon as I exit highway, press the gas and the car doesn't want to shift, almost as if it gets stuck. Continue driving on street and when turning, the car doesn't want to go. Ford had it for 3 days but didn't find anything. Have read posts and found one person with same issue that said it's code 2111, having to do with the throttle. So many people with the same issue and no recalls. It's dangerous to drive on highway now.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion in the cylinders. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was also determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
This vehicle only has 71,000 miles on it. Car began running rough, then Engine light came on. I took it to a local repair shop and was discovered to have Cylinder Mis-fire P0304 code. There was also white smoke coming from the tailpipe. They looked into the cylinder and saw that coolant had breached the cylinder. They found a Technical Service Bulletin for this exact problem, https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10162071-0001.pdf. The fix is to replace the engine, which rough estimates indicate upwards of $8,000. This issue should be an official recall. I’ve noticed many complaints on this site referencing the same issue.
Leaking brake hose left front
My rear window exploded and created a large hole and shattered the window.
Panoramic sun roof suddenly cracked. Nothing hit it. Had it shattered while on the freeway it could have caused safety issues with the driver maintaining control of the vehicle. Not to mention injuries to any rear seat passengers.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, a booming sound coming from the vehicle suddenly occurred. After stopping to inspect the vehicle, smoke was present coming from the engine compartment and flames were present from under the vehicle. The fire department was called to the scene but the flames were no longer present upon arrival. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the transfer case had exploded and the transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission was replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that vehicle had failed to accelerate upon a cold start as the check engine light appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic where they diagnosed a crack in cylinder #1 which caused coolant to leak into the engine. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and the diagnostic result was confirmed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the manufacturer agreed to cover a portion of the repair. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
I was driving in a parking lot when it was snowing and the traction control and anti lock brakes went out. Due to that, the car locked up and I hit a curb. My tie rod is bent now on the passenger side of the cat.

The PTU is leaking it’s a known defect a known problem but they say my vin number doesn’t even qualify for customer satisfaction program?? I don’t understand it’s almost 7 years old but only 77k est miles on it. It is not as if I have drove this thing to the ground. I would like my vin number added or this problem added to a recall or something that would waist loyal customers for this issue.
My 2016 Ford Edge SEL AWD 2.0L (65,000 Miles on engine) Ecoboost Engine started to experience a rough idle on a cold start, which would run normal after about 15 seconds, I also noticed the smell off coolant and a low level coolant in the reservoir but could not find a leak. These symptoms went on for about a month, then one day the engine light popped on while driving. I attached my Code Reader which resulted in a P0302 Engine Misfire Code. I attempted to remove the #2 spark plug. The spark plug was seized in the engine head. After research on-line. I found out this is a known issue by Ford for this engine. Engine coolant leaking into the cylinders (a design flaw which was corrected in 2019 for new vehicles). Technical Service Bulletin 22-2229. For Motor Company is only repairing vehicles under warranty. So consumers like myself that trusted the Ford name/product are being stuck with the repair bill. My repair bill is $6,563.29 , this was for a New Engine Long Block which is Ford Motor Company's recommended fix for their flawed design or their engine. The effected engines include 1.5L, 1.6L and 2.0L Ecoboost engines.
