(EcoBoost Engine) I took my Ford Edge to Art Hill Ford in Merrillville, Indiana because of coolant lost, overheating, engine sputtering and check engine light. The truck was diagnosed with coolant entering the number 3 cylinder. Cost to repair $5,725.00. The truck needs an engine. I was told by a service adviser that this is a problem that is common and known by ford. That Ford had previously help some of their customers with the cost to repair this problem. I was given a service number to call. I called the number and was told that ford would not help in any way with this problem. Doing research this is an ongoing problem with the head gaskets for this engine. Known by ford for years. This problem causing loss of engine power or failure, overheating, and or fire.
Fluid intrusion into the Ford 2017 Edge engine when coolant leaks into the cylinders, it can leads to corrosion, misfires, engine failure, and fires. I just had a fluid intrusion into my engine and the dealership told me it was safe to drive. I was have near stalling of my car and my check engine light was on. My Edge has now been at the dealership for almost 4 weeks waiting for an engine replacement.
[XXX] Recall ON YOUR VEHICLE, IT MAY BE POSSIBLE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING IS DAMAGED OR MISSING. my car can't be used for ride-sharing, which is how I pay for the car. I've been informed that my vehicle has an open safety recall due to recall, which prohibits me from sharing on ride-sharing platforms. This is causing me financial hardship. Also, if it's unsafe for ride-sharing, it's unsafe for my family and me to ride in. I was informed to visit the NHTSA website to search vehicle VIN for safety recalls. The local dealership cannot fix my car for there are no solutions. I need to find a fix so I can resume working and making payments. If not I need to sell this car or return the car to Ford. The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. A DTC reader indicated a misfire in cylinder #3; and the contact replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coils. Despite the repair, the failure recurred the next day. The contact also began to notice that the coolant was being consumed very quickly with a thick white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The check engine warning light became illuminated again. The dealer was notified of the failure and scheduled an appointment. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
My truck is only 5 years with 54,500 miles and the engine light came on. Code 302 came up. I spent 400 to change the spark plugs and the ignition coil #2. Light went off and came back on. Next the dealership said the Coolant is leaking into the cylinders and I would need a new engine. $10,000. Contact Ford because we can't help you. My warranty just ended 45 days ago. Now What!

The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the sound of splashing liquid was present coming from the engine compartment when starting the vehicle, stopping the vehicle, and during acceleration. Eventually the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that coolant had leaked into the engine combustion chamber and engine cylinders. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 67,000.
The contact's wife owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact's wife received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while shifting the gear shifter from second to third gear, the vehicle lunged forward. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed and making a left turn into a parking lot, the vehicle stopped inadvertently with the engine still running. The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact's wife was able to park in a parking space. There was no warning light illuminated. The tow truck company was contacted and attempted to reverse the vehicle onto the flatbed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was pushed onto the flatbed and towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the torque converter had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V390000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to partially cover the cost of the repair. A case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
I have on my car for about a year now and when I first received it about a month into it I noticed this first issue. I would be driving and all the sudden I would loose acceleration. All dash lights that could come on did. This includes BLIS system failure. Transmission failure. Engine coolant temp failure. Traction control failure. Etc etc. The vehicle enters a limp mode I believe, and in doing so it very harshly shifts down through the transmission gears as I am slowing down. This happened a second time a month after the first incident as I was entering a highway between a bridge where I only had half my car width of space to pull over on both sides. In a blind bend, in a very dangerous place to pull over. I switched to 93 octane in hopes this would fix the issue, and for 6-8 months I haven't had that issue again. Until yesterday. I went to try to pass somebody in a passing zone when my vehicle did exactly as listed above. At this point I firmly believe it has something to do with the ECU, the brains of the car as I think this is the only thing that can tie all the errors together (it’s literally every warning I can think of). Ive taken it to Ford twice now for this issue, and will be inquiring about this again when I get my inspection on Saturday. They stated there is absolutely no data that points them anywhere when they check the stored codes. Even though there was a check engine light. This even further leads me to believe its an ECU issue, as it maybe errors out and is unable to store any codes. Over all its a serious safety issue that no ford dealer is able to diagnose for me. Googling leads me to the FordEdgeForum where other people are experiencing the same issue but without a full solution as its such an intermediate problem and cannot be easily duplicated.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated upon depression of the accelerator pedal with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where she was informed that the coolant level was low; upon further investigation, the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure due to a damaged engine block. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and agreed to cover 60% of the cost for the engine repair. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a misfire in cylinder #2 and that coolant was leaking into the engine. The dealer informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 22-2229 (Coolant in Cylinders) however, the vehicle was not covered by the TSB. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
We currently have a 2017 Ford Edge with an Ecoboost 2.0 engine at our local Ford dealership. It began running poorly and the check engine light came on. Shortly after, it worsened with a whistling noise and more obvious cylinder misfiring. The codes for the engine light were P0303 and P0316, and was diagnosed with coolant in the cylinder. Per the service department at the dealership, this falls under Technical Service Bulletin 19-2346, with the only repair being complete engine replacement. At the time of this submission, it has been at the dealership for 12 weeks. We currently have no ETA on backordered parts to complete the repair, and will owe $4,300 for the repair when completed (originally over $11,000 quote). I would also like to reference Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) #21N12. This CSP offers free repair to many Ecoboost 1.5L engines that have had the identical diagnosis. The associated TSB for this is 22-2134, which aside from different sized engines, is identical to the TSB associated with our vehicle.
The car was burning antifreeze. So we tore the engine apart thinking it was a head gasket and found the cylinder the antifreeze was going into was also cracked. I think that is why Ford is making people to pay for a new engine. For the antifreeze go into the cylinder that have the Cleveland engine. And they don't what to pay for the defect in the engine.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who replaced a spark plug; however, the failure persisted. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer who diagnosed that coolant was leaking into two cylinders. The contact learned that the vehicle was not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program: 19B37 or 21N12. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,500. The consumer stated that the vehicle was repaired in September 2022 and that Ford covered about 60% of the repair cost.
Car's brakes went to floor when engaged. Driver pumped them several times to slow car. Engine light came on; took car to mechanic and brake repair was made, but engine light kept appearing. Then the car would not crank and was towed to the mechanic and the battery was replaced. Finally, the car's body/wheels appeared to be shaking when driving and the engine light appeared again. Car was taken to a Ford repair center where service department informed us that the engine needed to be replaced due to coolant leak. The car is driveable but unsafe and requires expensive engine replacement. After doing research, this appears to be a well known problem with the Ford Edge and consumers aren't receiving adequate information about the extent of the problem or safety concerns. A recall needs to be issued for this defect and Ford needs to take responsibility to fix the problem.

Engine light came on at 73,000 miles and stated engine misfire cylinder 1. Took to Ford service. They had to put 1 gallon of coolant in and drove for about a week. Still having issues and finally told about TSB 22-2229 and that a new engine would be needed. This is a known factory defect and the customer should not have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket to replace an engine with low miles! Engine has not been replaced.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon approaching the vehicle, she observed an oil leak underneath the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the plastic oil pan. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 38,000.
The engine light came on my 2017 2.0L Ford Edge, I took it to the dealership and after a short diagnosis it was determined that my vehicle's engine needed to be replaced due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. The vehicle mileage was 77850 and I was just under two months out of the 5 year 60K warranty. Ford Motor Company has been aware of this problem, they generated and sent out to the dealerships a Technical Service Bulletin #22-2229. I as the consumer was never made aware of this possible issue by Ford Motor Company. Ford Motor Company has refused to take full monetary responsibility for this defect,
Bought this car used. Never received recall letter. Wife was driving car stepped on brake. Pedal went to the floor and car stopped slowly. Dealer and Ford Corp both said they would replace both front brake hoses but parts would take up to two weeks to get. They said I am not entitled to a loaner car or towing of the vehicle because the recall letter stated that the hoses could leak not that it could break. They also said that NHTSA stated in the letter that it was not unsafe to drive the car. Really, a brake issue is not unsafe. I think they are splitting hairs to avoid the costs involved.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after stopping at the service station and running inside; upon returning to the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact called her dad for assistance in getting the vehicle to the dealer. While at the dealer, the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that coolant had leaked into the engine causing the head gasket to be blown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Engine failed due to coolant intrusion. Dealership told me it was a known issue was only covered by ford because I have 3k miles left of warranty or would have been on the hook. Was told by service adviser it’s a known issue that ford hopes you catch outside the warranty
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while restarting the vehicle or while the engine was idling, the vehicle would vibrate and shake. Additionally, there was a fuel odor present inside the cabin of the vehicle. The check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that cylinder #3 was faulty and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,000.
Engine coolant getting into cylinders with symptoms of coolant loss, white exhaust smoke, rough running engine, and engine light on. This leads to rapid loss of coolant. I need to refill the coolant at the end of each day of driving, creating a potential further engine damage and risk of fire. A Ford dealership inspected the vehicle and determined these facts to be the case. The repair they deemed necessary is a new long block -- on my vehicle of only 45,000 miles -- at a price of $8,500.
2.0L ecotec engine code 420 made in Cleveland, Ohio. Coolant intrusion into the cylinders can cause engine to overheat or run rough and shut off at highway speeds causing an accident. Ford is well aware of this issue and the fix is to replace the engine at the cost of the consumer. Estimates are upwards of $8,000 for the repair to be done.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Escape. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle sputtered with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the spark plugs were misfiring. Additionally, the contact was informed that the ignition coil in cylinder #1 was defective. The spark plugs and ignition coil was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
bought a 2017 ford edge 3 months later (2.0 engine) my car starts to overheat, white smoke. I Have it taken in to be looked at to get a bill for 8500 if i want it fixed. The car was also not safteyed. Ford has known issues with this just trying to bring awarness so many people having to go without a car for trusting ford and they are not fixing this issue with there 2.0 eco engines

Misfire #2, COOLANT leak into cylinder head, no warning, blown head gasket.
After taking my vehicle to the shop, it was discovered that engine coolant is leaking into cylinder 3 causing a misfire. Was told that I will have to replace engine with 94,000 miles at a cost of $8500 of my own money. There is a TSB out there, but it is not covered by Ford. Extremely frustrating.
I have a 2017 Ford Edge that at 64,930 miles (4,930 miles over warranty, but within warranty period by 2 months) the Check Engine Light came on in April, 2022 and computer diagnostic testing showed misfiring in a cylinder. All coils & plugs were replaced at a cost of over $700. Within days light reappeared, with engine running rough and again testing showed another misfire in a single cylinder. That coil was again replaced but check engine light again came on. At this point all coils were replaced with Motorcraft coils. Again light came on with more rough engine running. This went on for multiple times until repair shop suggested I call Ford. Over the phone the Ford Service Advisor diagnosed the issue as coolant contamination into the cylinders (evidently they've seen it before). I brought vehicle to a Ford Service Center and their diagnostic testing confirmed what the service advisor said and that I would need to replace engine at a cost of over $8000. This for an engine that wasn't even 5 years old and had less than 65,000 miles and had been properly maintained. An on-line check of carcomplaints.com shows this is not an isolated problem with the 2.0l Eco-Boost engine. I believe the rough running & coolant into the cylinders can lead to the engine stalling and engine overheating, both creating safety issues on the road. I know Ford has issued at least 7 Technician Service Bulletins pertaining to this issue since 2018, the most recent dated 6/10/22, all recommending long block engine replacement. That tells me that multiple engines, most with 60,000 to 70,00 miles with the same issue is a manufacturers defect and a recall should be in order. As I write this the Ford Service Center is waiting for a replacement engine to be delivered for installation into my vehicle During the MLB All-Star game, Ford ran multiple commercials stressing Ford Pride. A 5 year old engine with 64,930 miles needing to be replaced is nothing to be proud of.
While driving the vehicle, the brake pedal became mushy and the vehicle had a hard time stopping. At this point, not warning light was on the dash. After pulling over, brake pedal testing was performed and the pedal went to the floor as well as the low brake fluid light illuminated. Upon inspection, the brake fluid reservoir was empty and there was a huge puddle of brake fluid beneath the rear passenger wheel. It is obvious that the brake line ruptured while driving. Thankfully, the driver was not at high speeds nor on a highway. This vehicle had recall work performed in 07/2021 where the front brake lines were replaced. However, the recall did not apply to the rear brake lines. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealership for repairs. Rear passenger side brake line was defective and that the rupture to the brake line was NOT caused by road debris, etc. Ford also declined to cover the repairs. Also, the Ford Service Department confirmed that the part (rear passenger side brake line) was defective and that the rupture to the brake line was NOT caused by road debris, etc. Ford also declined to cover the repairs.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the panoramic sunroof cracked and shattered. The contact stated the failure was noticed when the vehicle was being cleaned. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V205000 (Structure). The approximate failure mileage was 62,000. The consumer stated Ford and the dealer was contacted numerous times to no avail, and both stated there was no record for a recall.
Head gasket failure. Began around 4/13/2022 at mileage 63,988. Was confirmed by Spirit Ford Dundee,Michigan via scope down a piston chamber to detect fluid. Vehicle coolant dropped down to where heat output was affected. Had white plumes from exhaust. Believe this was premature for this type of failure. Elected to have repair at Tanner Automotive Adrian,Michigan. See attached invoice for $2,270.61. Am not interested in compensation. Discussed this with Ford who declined. Simply wish to make record as Ford is aware of this issue; otherwise they would not have issued tech service bulletin for same.If NHTSA issues recall for same; would then participate in all benefits deemed by NHTSA. Vehicle is titled in my wife's name: Sheila Bork Bowman 10550 Pentecost Hwy, Onsted,Mi.49265

I am told my APIM module needs to be replaced. My touch screen will go black and then come back on. I am unable to use handsfree phone due to system not staying connected to my bluetooth. The radio will not turn off or on and sometimes will come on and be blaring while driving. The GPS does not work at all and if it decides to even show up on the screen will not follow streets at all. The warning sounds and lights will go off randomly while driving even if I am not close to something on the sides of my car. My backup cameras do not work all the time. The cruise control will not keep distance and will stop working randomly. The entire touch screen will not respond to any touch. These items are very distracting and unsafe at best. There has been no accidents to cause these problems. The manufacturer has not been able to help me locate any replacement parts despite pre-paying for the expensive module. I have been waiting 6 weeks without anyone being able to tell me when a module is expected. Meanwhile I do not know what else will stop working on my car. Ford has had a history of problems with the APIM modules and there was even a class action suit that was won by the consumer for the same thing in Lincoln vehicles. I just want the part and for my car to be fixed.
