My 2018 Ford Edge (2.0L EcoBoost) is suffering from a documented manufacturing defect where coolant leaks into the engine cylinders. I have an official dealer diagnostic report confirming the symptoms match TSB 22-2229 (which supersedes TSB 22-2133 and 19-2346).
Coolant engine intrusion. Improperly built engine. No mechanic will try to fix it based on history.

Ford has recalled over 2.9 million vehicles, including 2015–2018 Ford Edge models, due to a faulty transmission shifter cable bushing that can degrade and detach. This defect may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear (specifically Park), creating a risk of unexpected rollaway and injury. I ALMOST HAD A BAD CAR ACCIDENT MY. CAR WAS IN PARK AND STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS MAKING THIS LOUD SCREECHING NOISE THIS WAS AFTER THE RECALL WAS ALLEGEDLY REPAIRED AND NOW THEY WONT FIX THE ISSUE AND ITS AFFECTED THE TRANSMISSION... THERE WERE NO WARNING MESSAGES AT ALL.. FORD IS TELLING ME I HAVE TO PAY 7,200 DOLLARS FOR A REPAIR THEY DIDN'T FIX PROPERLY NOW I CANT EVEN DRIVE MY CAR ITS STILL IN THEIR POSSESSION
When the check engine light illuminated, the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who diagnosed the problem as “There is an internal engine failure on number 3 cylinder. Anti-freeze is leaking into the combustion chamber and going out the tailpipe. The engine needs to be replaced.” There were no indications prior to the check engine light warning as the car is well maintained (garage kept, regular oil changes/maintenance by the Ford dealership where the vehicle was purchased and only 63,000 miles on the vehicle). The vehicle does start but is considered undrivable for any distance since the engine failure could cause the vehicle to become inoperable at any time. However, the vehicle can be made available for inspection if driving a short distance or possibly having the vehicle towed. What we are left with is a vehicle that is a total loss. We are unable to sell or trade it and continue to incur insurance costs.
I am submitting this complaint to report a serious engine defect involving coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders on my 2018 Ford Edge. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford-authorized dealership after engine performance concerns. Diagnostic testing confirmed positive combustion gases in the cooling system, indicating internal coolant leakage into the engine. The dealership has stated that the only recommended repair is replacement of the long block (engine). This condition is consistent with a known defect affecting Ford 2.0L EcoBoost engines, which Ford has acknowledged through Technical Service Bulletin 22-2229. Despite this acknowledgment, no recall has been issued for this vehicle. This defect poses a significant safety concern, as it can lead to: - Engine misfires and loss of power - Sudden engine failure while driving - Potential stalling or inability to safely operate the vehicle The failure occurred at approximately 63,110 miles, which is unreasonably low for catastrophic engine damage of this nature and indicates a manufacturing or design defect rather than normal wear.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while in reverse(R), the rearview camera displayed a blank white screen. The local dealer was contacted on several occasions. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
My Ford Edge will lock us out while it is running with the key fob in the car, in the center console. It will lock you out if you are standing outside the car after you unlock the doors, with the keys in your hand. It will continue to lock itself back after you unlock it, before you even get a door open. It has done this numerous times. I have called and complained about it but received no help. I even made a complaint through Ford and the dealership where we are buying the Edge from. They were no help at all, not even with an extra key fob. We have an autistic child, and what is going to happen when I step out of the car to get him out and my doors lock with him in the car? We need answers and help with this problem! We can't afford to take our Edge and pay a lot of money for an issue that should not be happening at all. I have a case # that was given to me where I called GM cxh-06543205-h8k1j9
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 20 MPH in a parking lot, the brakes became inoperable. The low brake fluid warning light illuminated after the failure. The driver was able to drive safely to her residence. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number 25V544000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact called the local dealer, who confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the front driver-side and passenger-side brake hoses needed to be replaced. The mechanic replaced the parts. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
The engine requires full replacement due to a cracked engine block, coolant intrusion into cylinder 2, heavy spark plug corrosion, and diagnostic code P0302 (cylinder 2 misfire). The defect was confirmed by an authorized Ford Dealership. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: This defect causes sudden loss of engine power without reliable warning, engine stalling in active traffic, and risk of engine fire due to coolant-oil contamination - all documented safety hazards Ford has acknowledged in its own technical bulletins. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford-certified technician at an authorized dealership. The problem was confirmed and dealership issued a written diagnosis for requiring engine replacement. 100% of our services to this vehicle have been done by Ford dealerships, up to and including the appointment to diagnose the engine. Warning symptom appeared prior to failure: check engine light, an audible sloshing sound from the engine compartment. Symptoms first appeared in early December 2025, (approximately 2 weeks before the end of our warranty.) A service appointment was scheduled for the check engine light, but was cancelled because the light cleared itself. We learned in April 2026 that it was engine failure. Ford's own TSBs 19-2346 and 22-2229 document that symptoms of this defect occur with or without an illuminated MIL. Ford has not issued a recall despite NHTSA's own database showing 727 complaints on this vehicle, 128 pages of which relate to engine and engine cooling issues. They stated when asked about a warranty claim or goodwill there is no open customer service issues related to this, and since the diagnosis is post warranty they will not cover any of the approximate 10,000 it will cost to replace the engine.
Brought vehicle in with check engine light on and vehicle codes P0741 and P1744 appeared. Torque converter needs to be replaced along with transmission.
The coils kept popping up check engine light. And turns out it was an injector failing, and cause my car to jerk a lot, and not accelerate when needing. My car would almost try to stop accelerating while on highway and jerk so much that it felt like I was going to wreck on the middle of a freeway.
The defect involves the engine block or cylinder head design, which allows engine coolant to intrude into the engine's combustion cylinders. Coolant mixing with the engine oil will cause a catastrophic failure and can lead to an engine fire. Ford has issued Technical Service Bulletins TSB 19-2346 but it does not cover any cost and no recalls have been issued. This is a known manufacturing defect in which Ford is taking no accountability.
Rear window shattered without any warning or contact. Car was not running at the time.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the infotainment system screen displayed both the forward and rearview images simultaneously. In addition, the contact stated that the buttons on the infotainment system were lagging and were sometimes inoperable while pressed. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, where the contact was informed that the failure was related to an unrepaired recall. The dealer declined to inspect the vehicle at the time. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact later received a call from the dealer to schedule the recall repair for June 2026, when the parts were scheduled to be available. The contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive with the forward and rearview images displayed on the infotainment system screen simultaneously, and the contact could not wait until June 2026. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The contact was informed that the failure was not related to the unrepaired recall. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
Coolant leak into the cylinders of an ecoboost engine. Coded out. Inspection found that the coolant had been pulled into the engine. No recall, needs entire engine replaced.
2018 Ford Edge with 119K miles. Issue has been determined to be the known issue of coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The issue was noticed while stopped at a traffic light, vehicle started "reving" and showed RPM fluctuations. On two separate occasions, the vehicle lost all ability to accelerate while driving. It's also has white smoke coming out of the exhaust and has been losing coolant at an alarming rate. After multiple inspections and other attempted fixes (water pump replacement, spark plugs replaced, fuel pump replaced), it's been determined that the coolant intrusion is to blame. The vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive in the current state and extended warranty is no longer in affect due to the mileage.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the rearview camera had displayed a blank screen. The approximate failure mileage was 101,500.
I have a 2018 Ford Edge. In late October of 2025 my engine light illuminated. The diagnosis was a P301, indicating a misfire in cylinder one. Spark plugs and cylinder 1 coil was replaced. No problems until December and engine light came on again, same code. Coil was replaced again and in January engine light came on again. Ford released TSB 19-2346 on 12-19-19 describing a possible coolant leak in to the cylinders and a engine replacement was suggested. I feel a recall is necessary to prevent safety issues created by slower than normal acceleration and /or engine fires.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact's vehicle was involved in a crash. The driver's side air bag did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The vehicle was condemned as a total loss by the insurance company. The contact sustained neck and back pain, but received no medical treatment. A Police report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 71,800.
2018 Ford Edge engine size 2.0 ecoboost has a coolant intrusion that Ford is well aware of but refuse to help customers with the problem. Engine could fail while driving on the highway but they have not issue an emergency recall for it.. This is a very serious manufacture error on behalf of Ford Motor.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine hesitated to turn over. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a coolant intrusion in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired due to the costs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
Original transmission failed at 83,000km. August 2023. Replacement FORD crated transmission and new cooler installed at FORD dealership for a cost of approx $11,000 Canadian dollars failed 25 months later. Oct 2025. FORD would not honour 36 month advertised replacement parts warranty. Car was not abused and driven by retiree.
My car started overheating this morning. Took it to my mechanic & he told me I had a cracked head gasket where coolant was leaking. He thought there was a recall/notice about some coolant issues. Sent me to our local Ford dealership; they said my vehicle wasn't covered under any recalls. But there is a notification about this very issue. I attached a screenshot of the exact issue listed online that matches my problem.

The problem began in early August 2025 when the check engine light came on and the vehicle misfired. A Ford mobile technician inspected it before 8/23/25, confirmed Diagnostic Code P0303 (Cylinder 3 Misfire), but said it was likely just a bad ignition coil. Based on that, I went to Midas on 8/23/25 for a tune-up and coil check. On 9/29/25, the check engine light returned and for the first time the coolant over-temperature warning illuminated. Midas confirmed coolant intrusion into Cylinder 3: borescope and pressure test showed leakage, leak-down test failed with air entering the coolant reservoir, and visible coolant loss was present. At 80,445 miles, the engine was deemed unsafe and required full replacement. Hawk Ford confirmed no warranty extensions or programs applied. The repair cost was $10,500 out of pocket. This defect matches Ford TSB [XXX] , is widely reported in EcoBoost engines, and creates a serious safety risk since the vehicle misfires, overheats, and may stall while driving. Our 2018 Ford Edge started idling rough after spark plug change and after dealer tested it they told us it had engine coolant in #2 Cylinder and that driving it could lead to catastrophic engine failure. Only fix is complete engine block replacement (Recommended by Ford in Bulletin TSB22-2229) along with new turbo as it may also have been damaged by coolant leak. (Could also damage catalytic converter. This is a known default due to design fault in 2.0 litre engine. Since vehicle is off warranty, the repair replacement is going to cost over $10,000.00. I understand this is affecting a serious number of Ford customers with this engine, a number of which have been quietly replaced under warranty. I feel Ford owes their customers replacement costs on this issue and a recall should be issued. If ones motor seizes up suddenly while driving it could result in injury or death. I have contacted Ford directly, and their response is it's out of warranty so I am out of luck.
Driving felt weird like the vehicle was stuttering and I heard liquid sloshing around as I was driving. Check engine light came on and turned off again on its own on 2 separate occasions within 2 weeks. The first time it came on, I made an appointment at the service center but the check engine light had gone off by the time I brought it in. I was told they couldn't diagnose it if the check engine light was off. When it came on again, I took it to my local Ford service center and they diagnosed it with coolant leaking into the cylinder, causing a misfire. The recommended solution is a full engine replacement costing over $8,000. Apparently this is a known issue and a service bulletin was issued in 2022 (before I bought the car used) but Ford is refusing to issue a recall. The car only has 65k miles.
There is a coolant intrusion into the cylinder bores of the engine. This has been confirmed by VanBortel Ford in East Rochester NY. When the issue first occurred the engine light came on and the vehicle would no longer run properly.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. While the contact's husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, when the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal rumbling sound coming from underneath the hood. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and DTC: P0303 and P0316 were retrieved. The failure was not acknowledged by the dealer at the time. The contact was informed that the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that a tune-up was performed, and the coolant reservoir was refilled; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. While speaking with the dealer, the dealer confirmed that the initial repair had not resolved the issue. The contact was notified of an unknown TSB regarding the failure. The contact was informed that coolant intrusion was a known failure with similar vehicles. The contact stated that the dealer should have acknowledged the failure when the vehicle was initially taken to the dealer. The contact stated that the failure was due to a poor design by the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 53,418.
Purchased the vehicle used Oct 5, 2021 with 27285 miles on it. Last year engine light came on and the problem was coolant getting into the engine block. Was told there was no recall. Dealer I purchased it from replaced the bad engine. it cost me $7100.00, which they said was their cost to replace with no extra fees. Vehicle had 33,000 miles when this happened.
My 2018 Ford Edge (VIN [XXX] ) suffered a premature transmission failure at 105,415 miles. Just 389 miles earlier, Ford performed Customer Satisfaction Program 22N12 (flexplate/torque converter/pump replacement), for which I paid $1,669 as my 50% share. Less than two months later, the same dealer diagnosed the transmission as failed due to the forward clutch being stuck and quoted $6,955 for replacement. Ford’s maintenance schedule does not require transmission service until 150,000 miles, so this failure is premature and unreasonable. A transmission failure at highway speed could cause sudden loss of power, greatly increasing the risk of a crash. This issue appears related to Ford’s known flexplate defect (CSP 22N12) and raises concern of broader transmission reliability/safety problems in affected vehicles. The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the key fob's low battery warning light illuminated. The contact stated that because of the failure, the key fob occasionally failed to unlock the doors. The contact was frustrated and fearful of driving the vehicle, and feared being locked out of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the key fob battery needed to be replaced. The key fob battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where the contact was informed that the key fob battery needed to be replaced. The key fob battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The car has been having a chemical smell when it starts. I recently was driving from San Antonio, Texas to Austin, Texas and received a warning that my car was overheating. The warning went off immediately and I continued driving it. A few days later, I got an oil change and was told that I had no coolant in the vehicle. They filled the coolant for me. I continued driving the car. This week, the car was shaking pretty violently when I turned on the ignition. I proceeded to drive it and it drove normally. The following day, a check engine light came on. I took it in to see a mechanic that day and they confirmed that I had a coolant intrusion problem caused by the 2.0L Eco boost engine which is defective and allows coolant to escape into the engine injectors. Ford is not taking any responsibility for this and says that it is not under warranty so there's no programs they can offer me. Ford should issue a recall of this defective product to avoid injuries or accidents.
Ford has a known problem with Ecoboost engines can leak coolant into the engine’s valves. This happened to our vehicle and we had to replace the engine due to misfiring cylinders. The check engine light kept coming on. We intially replaced all spark plugs and coils. Then after that didn't resolve the problem, the entire engine had to be replaced.
Rear view camera defective cannot see we're going into reverse
At 77,000 Kilometers, check engine light came on, during inspection it is observed that there is an active coolant intrusion leak in cylinders 1 and 3. This is a Ford Edge 2018, with a 2.0L Ecoboost engine. The car is undriveable and needs a full engine replacement.
Cylinder misfire, caused coolant intrusion into cylinder caused by defective motor wall. This could have caused by engine to lock up while driving and cause an accident. Luckily I was able to get it to the dealer before that happened. FORD is aware of this defective motor in these models but has refused to issue a recall. My car is a 2018, however, the car ONLY has 50,000 miles on it. I want others to know of this danger. These engines should be recalled before someone is hurt in crash due to this defect.
