Transmission: 2 quarts low; shuddering; I get my car serviced very regularly at Riverside Ford Macon Ga; car began to shudder; had transmission fluid checked, 2 quarts low; looked up online and discovered issues with 2020 Ford edge transmission problems
Is cutting out when going, camera is failing, heated mirrors are not working, 10 codes are showing up on mechanics scan tool. Took to ford dealership they disregarded my concern and only changed differential fluid for a weird sound concern that is already on a recall but didn’t include this vin and didn’t check for any other diagnosis. Been to 3 shops nobody is figuring it out.

Transmission is bucking and jerking at speeds up to 35 mph, only has 61,000 miles and transmission fluid level is fine, does it all the time
I had this car serviced at the Ford dealership where I purchased it shortly before the warrenty ran out just to catch anything before it was not covered. Car was running well when I took it in. Copy of Invoice provided. Shortly after this visit I began to notice these symptoms not extreme at first. After a short it became quite noticeable the shuddering acting like it did not shift smoothly, going up hill was very noticeable mostly at lower speeds. I made an appointment with my local Ford dealer to have this diagnosed . They did spark plug replacement and that didn't help. They then said the next thing would be the Torque converter! We currently are unable to drive this car out of our town, until it is fixed, We are unable to trust its reliability. We had to wait for parts for a month because so many people are having to have these replaced that these parts are always out of stock ! We are extremely disappointed in FORD we WERE quite happy with this car. They need to be held accountable for these repairs people all over the internet are reporting the same thing!
transmission jerks when starting and stopping.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The rear view camera glitches and the display is either blacked out or scattered. The motion sensor does not always work when this happens. I was not aware of an on coming car while backing up causing a safety risk. The screen will start glitching and become distorted while I am already backing up, making it hard to know where the objects are. There are not any warning lights to indicate a problem. I brought the car to the service center at the dealership from where I purchased it, They said I would have to pay for a new camera. I did not do that because there is a recall in the 2021 model and other Ford vehicles for the same issue .
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the cruise control system unexpectedly disengaged. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and a sensor failure was diagnosed. The sensor was replaced; however, the failure persisted. When we first noticed symptoms we brought it to our local dealership. They diagnosed it with a faulty torque converter. The vehicle displays hesitation, jerkiness and stuttering when accelerating. It makes drive in poor conditions more challenging and daily driving when accelerating onto highways and interstates. Lane changes and other general maneuvers when accelerating. The condition was recreated by North Country ford in Coon Rapids, MN. We are continuing to get 2nd and 3rd opinions so that we can find a permanent solution. There has been no further inspections besides service shops and local the dealership. There were no service lamps or warning lights. The physical jerkiness and hesitation when accelerating was the main sign. Forums and automotive pages alerted us to many other drivers experiencing similar issues. The problem first arose around 1-2 months ago. Possibly the end of February to beginning of April 2025.

The vehicle is leaking coolant into the engine due to a failing EGR cooler. Problems include, white smoke coming from the engine, severe coolant loss, loss of heat, and foul smell coming from the vents. After a service inspection it was determined that the coolant leak is causing the engine to fail and a replacement engine is necessary.
Transmission has catastrophic failure and exploded while driving. Many components missing chunk of metal and or just completely mangled after explosion from under car when had to me turned 35°-50° to go straight. Went to Google my issue and say the 2020, Ford edge had 3 recalls for transmission issues but for certain ones and mine want listed but had done a good amount of damage
I was driving my car and couldn't put it in reverse. Then it worked and I drove it I was on my way to work and stopped to turn left and all of a sudden it wouldn’t go into drive. I would put it in drive and then it would automatically jump to park.
Transmission shudders and cannot find a gear. Mostly happens in 4th and 5th gear (8 Speed transmission). No check engine light has come on to diagnose the root cause. This is an ongoing problem since February 2025
Transmission issue, unable to diagnose with error codes as the system does not recognize it
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle's transmission locked up, the transmission would not budge and so the engine proceeded to shut down. No warning lights had illuminated. The contact proceeded to restart the vehicle however again upon attempting to shift the transmission into gear the engine proceeded to shut down. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where the vehicle was diagnosed, the contact was advised that the torque converter was faulty and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 120,000.
Transmission shudders under 35mph, with harsh down shifting and delayed up shifting. Issue is known to happen to 2019-2021 Edge/Nautilus built before March 11, 2021 that are equipped with a 8F35 Transmission.
For last 3+ years Rear reverse camera remains blank and screen becomes unresponsive Unable to use steering wheel buttons to change radio station or volume. Can get working again by performing a system reset (press seek and volume knob) Took to Ford dealer for the camera recall 20C19 when recall first came out. As parts were not available, dealer stated they could not apply fix Due to work schedule, finally able to reschedule in Dec 2024. After fix had been applied, reverse camera continues to stay blank and inoperable. Took back to Ford dealership. Dealership stated this was not under the recall as it is caused by a bad apim module. Warranty had expired by this time so that did not cover this either. The end failure symptom is the same as the recall but not caused by the same component therefore is not covered. Cost to replace is >$1000 so not affordable to repair. Had a few close accidents caused by the lack of reverse camera function. Vehicle is available for inspection. If the end failure is the same as that caused lack of safety requiring a recall, why would the apim module also not be replaced under recall?

While our vehicle hasnt been in an accident yet, the issue could possibly lead into one. Our vehicle is having transmission problems. Ford knows there is an issue with the trans. I have called them an spoke to someone but i forget his name. The issue is the computer needs flashed and updated with new shifting points. At low speeds or if your barely on the gas, the trans bucks, sputters and has issues driving smooth. Our vehicle only has 85k miles on it, the issue started about 5k miles ago. I have asked the people of reddit on the issue. Many people responded saying they have gotten theres fixed or the trans goes out. Seems like its a very expensive (to me) fix and i feel as though that since it is a known issue that Ford should be the one paying to flash and update shift points on there products. Its bad enough we pay an avg of 600 a month for our vehicles. Now why cant they make it rite and fix a known issue. I dont know if you guys can help push the issue and see about getting this taken care of. All help is appreciated.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle continued to run but failed to move. The driver became aware that the vehicle was stuck in park(P). No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The dealer observed metal shavings in the transmission fluid. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 104,000.
Driving normally to work, without a warning the car started vibrating and jerking vigorously when the car is turn on…if i try to drive it the car rolls but doesn’t want to break.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
The torque converter on this vehicle is a known issue to Ford, many Edges are affected by this issue. My vehicle will randomly surge and buck at low speeds as a result. Reduced power as well while going in reverse. There were never any warning signs, but the dealership said that it was a common issue on this vehicle. If I had not have been in warranty, the repair would have cost $6800. Just over six months later, the vehicle began doing the SAME thing. This time Ford says it’s the EGR valve and that it will cost a total of $1600. I managed to negotiate them down by talking to customer service, but I felt the need to bring this to others attention as I know my car isn’t the only one facing these issues.
Torque converter was diagnosed as faulty at 99k miles. This led to a cascade of effects on the transmission resulting in a full transmission replacement. Early signs of failure are starting to be observed at 113k, 13k miles after replacement.
Rear Drive Unit/Differential has failed. This is the second time in 4 years that it has failed leading to drivetrain issues to the rear wheels. I'm not sure how significant an incident would be if the Rear Power Transfer Unit fails while drive at highway speeds. Ford has released Technical Service Bulletins for the problem, so they are aware that there is an ongoing issue. Yet is is the owners responsibility to make the repairs. I have attached a copy of the receipt from the first repair. The vehicle is currently at the same dealership for the same issue. This time, the dealer claims I need to replace the entire Rear Drive Unit at my expense.
Transmission shifts hard and shutters going 20-40MPH
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle sputtered abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
Front camera malfunction, not available. I’ve tried to reset by disconnecting the battery for over an hour. Will not reset. Every time I start my vehicle I get the warning. Cleaned the windshield and that has not helped. I have 25,000 miles on my 2020 Ford Edge.
The Forward Collision Warning system became inoperative because of a failed electronic module. The dealership indicated that the self test ipma code u3009-49 test diagnostic called for the ipma replacement and programing. The failure of this component endangers pedestrians, other vehicles and passengers by failing to stop the vehicle when an imminent collision is about to occur. Given the 63,000 kilometres of this vehicle when the module failed, its expected life of 250,000 kilometres, the cost of replacing this component during its life, at more than 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle, is ridiculously high.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving in third gear, the transmission was skipping and the vehicle shuddered. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the torque converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty due to the mileage. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,200.
Power Train has failed multiple times on this vehicle. It loses power on the highway, reverses when in drive, and does not shift down to make the vehicle slow to a safe speed. This puts me and others in danger because you can not predict that or when there will be a failure that hits a person or other car. This has been taken to a mechanic and confirmed as power train failure in a 4 year old, 100K mile car. Ford claims no recalls even though the same recall exists for other makes and models of the same kind with different VINS. Has thrown multiple codes.
Forward collision warning stopped working which in turn caused the cruise control to not work. Then the PSCM (power steering control module) just went out all at once. Was driving and it showed warning on the dash. I drove on and parked. When I went to start back, it started fine but couldn’t move steering wheel. I’m seeing this has been a problem with other owners and the same year model. Ford has done a recall on edge for years around 2020 but not that particular year. Gonna cost $2772.59 to fix at dealership. Always owned ford but very disappointed how this happened with very little warning at all. If it had locked up while I was driving it would have been a major accident.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and making a turn, the rear end of the vehicle was jerking back and forth. The contact stated that the struts, radiator, and rear differential had previously been replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,521.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle was shaking and was losing motive power. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the RPM raised to 3,000 RPM but the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light and the "Wrench" symbol were illuminated. The contact pulled off the roadway and stopped. The contact stated that she was hearing an abnormal "clanking" sound underneath the vehicle. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and shifted into drive(D) and the vehicle made the abnormal clanking sound. The accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle was barely moving. The contact had the vehicle towed to the residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V011000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Transmission assembly lost ability to operate in reverse. This happened while attempting to reverse in a public area. I had enough turn radius to get around an obstruction and drive home. While driving home, the vehicle shuttered under acceleration. There were intermittent delays in acceleration also. The vehicle would not reverse out of driveway the next day. Reverse camera engaged, but no movement. The vehicle the illuminated a message of “SHIFT SYS FAULT. Service Required”. I had the vehicle towed to a repair facility for inspection. The Master ASE certified technician found that the fluid smelled burned, but there was not excessive metal shavings in fluid. He determined that the transmission had an internal failure and recommended replacement of transmission. This transmission has 123,000 miles on it. Transmission fluid was manually drained and filled at 119,500 with the manufacturer’s recommended “MOTORCRAFT MERCON ULV AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID #XT12QULV”. I am having the transmission replaced at a cost of $5000. I have owned this vehicle since 108,000 miles.
Starting at 75,000 miles the car would start jerking. It hesitates shifting between 2-3 gears. This is a HUGE safety issue, if I am driving on the highway and my car hesitates or stalls all together at high speed, lives would be lost. I took my car to the dealer for a consult and confirmed that the transmission is not shifting correctly. However no warning light, codes etc come up when they do their scan. I was told it is my issue and I need to replace my transmission.
I purchase this vehicle last year and its facing transmission problems already.
Passenger seat harness locks up with no sudden breaking or any collision. Have to unbuckle, let it retract, then pull back over passenger. Bought used with approximately 14,000 miles on it. If there should be an accident, passenger may be pinned.
Head gasket blew at 87, 000. Had complete head gasket replaced. less than 2000 mile with the new head gasket engine blew.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the front driver's side seat belt had failed to extend as needed. The contact stated that the seat belt required to be retracted and to be pulled continuously until it extended as needed. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 59,300.
Transmission needs to be replaced at 60k miles. This issue seems to be encountered way too often with this vehicle.
Ford created a terrible transmission and torque converter that has given countless people issuses including me. Unreliable Ford quality has created another vehicle that is not safe to drive without fear of losing power while driving. This vehicle feels like the transmission is going to break at any given time with 32000 miles.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 MPH and attempting to leave a parking lot, the vehicle made an abnormal sound and the engine shut off unexpectedly. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed; however, the contact was informed that the battery box had melted. The dealer was awaiting a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,858.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while shifting into gear, or while driving approximately 40 MPH, the engine sputtered. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact referenced Technical Service Bulletin: 21-2389; as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
