FORD MAY HAVE ANOTHER SUCH PROBLEM, BUT THEY REFUSE TO CHECK TO SEE IF THEY DO. I OWN A FORD 2001 ESCAPE. SORT OF A SMALL EXPLORER. ITS OEM TIRES ARE GENERAL GRABBER AW. MINE ARE SIZED P225/70/15. ONE JUNE 21, WITH LESS THAN 16000 MILES, FOR NO APPARENT REASON IT BLEW OUT. LUCKILY I WAS ON LOCAL STREETS AT ~20 MPH. HAD I BEEN ON LOOP 610 AT ~55 MPH POSSIBLY THE VEHICLE (AS SUVS ARE WONT TO DO) WOULD HAVE FLIPPED AND INJURED OR KILLED MY WIFE AND I. I DROVE INTO A PARKING LOT TO CHANGE THE TIRE AND DISCOVERED THE FORD SUPPLIED JACK AT ITS MAXIMUM TRAVEL DID NOT RAISE THE CAR HIGH ENOUGH TO CHANGE THE TIRE. LUCKILY I WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO HOME TO GO GET A PUMP JACK THAT ALLOWED ME TO INSTALL THE SPARE TIRE. AS IT WAS PAST NOON ON A SATURDAY I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHICH HAS STONEWALLED ME AND REFUSED TO HELP. THE MOST I HAVE HEARD IS WE'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE JACK, MAYBE YOU'RE NOT USING IT CORRECTLY, HOWEVER A LOCAL MICHELIN DEALER TELLS ME YEAH WE HEAR THAT PROBLEM ALL THE TIME. FORD REFUSES TO ESCALATE AND NOW IGNORES MY EMAIL. AS FOR THE TIRE I'M TOLD: IT MAY BE COVERED UNDER YOUR 36000, 3 YEAR WARRANTY, CHECK WITH GENERAL TIRE. I CHECK WITH GENERAL TIRE, AND FIND OUT A LARGER SIZE OF THAT MODEL TIRE ON FORD EXPEDITIONS IS ALREADY BEING RECALLED, BUT GENERAL DENIES EVER HAVING ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT ESCAPES, AND TELLS ME TO CALL FORD. I CALL CHAMPION FORD (FORMERLY CHARLIE THOMAS FORD) ON THE GULF FREEWAY WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR, AND AGAIN ACCORDING TO THE GENERAL MANAGER I'M THE FIRST ONE WITH SUCH PROBLEM(S). 2000 FORD F-550 WAS BEING TOWED AND EXPERIENCED UNDER HOOD FIRE.*MR THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING A FORD F550 AND WAS TOWING A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE OWNER OF THE ESCAPE STARTED THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED. HE INFORMED HER TO SHUT IT OFF. WHILE HE WAS TOWING THE VEHICLE, HE HEARD A BOOFF SOUND AND NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HE THEN PULLED OVER, UNHOOKED THE VEHICLE AND MOVED A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY. *PH
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH DOWN A HILL, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN, THERE WERE NO BRAKES/ POWER STEERING. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE.*AK *TS THE DEALER REPLACED SOME PARTS. *JB
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED IT WOULD STALL. *AK
MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE HAS STALLED FOUR TIMES. COASTING DOWN HILL JUST CUTS RIGHT OUT. NO RHYME OR REASON TO THE PROBLEM. *JB
ENGINE STALL - ADDING MY INCIDENT TO THE LIST - DRIVING TO WORK THIS MORNING ON INTERSTATE-35, TRAVELLING ABOUT 40+ MPH. REALIZED BRAKES WERE NOT ENGAGING AS I WAS QUICKLY APPROACHING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, THEN REALIZED OIL LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT WERE ON AND NO RESPONSE TO INCREASED GAS PEDAL PRESSURE ON RPM GAUGE TO TRY TO MOVE CAR OUT OF LANE. LUCKILY HAPPENED TO BE IN FAR LEFT LANE AND HAD JUST ENOUGH ROOM TO COAST OVER TO SHOULDER AND APPLY PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. REMOVED KEYS, REINSERTED AND CAR STARTED RIGHT UP. THIS IS THE FIRST OCCURRENCE - HOWEVER I PERUSE THE NHTSA SIGHT OCCASIONALLY AND REMEMBERED READING ABOUT THIS SITUATION FROM A FEW YEARS AGO. DRIVING CAR WHEN IT STOPPED RUNNING WITHOUT ANY NOTICE. ENGINE JUST STOPPED. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST POWER ASSIST AND BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND TAKEN TO A DEALER THE NEXT DAY WHERE THEY A COMPONENT WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT RE-OCCURRED. *TT *CB *NLM
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE JUMPED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED. *NLM
THE ROTORS WERE WARPED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR. *NLM
GASOLINE FUMES ENTERED THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. *NLM
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. BEFORE THE EVENT OCCURRED IT WAS TAKEN TO THE TECHNICIAN AND SUGGESTED THAT THE CAR MAY HAVE BEEN ON RECALL FOR THE FUEL CONNECTER. LATER THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED, HOWEVER A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE AND FUEL SYSTEM OVERHEATING. *CB *JB
MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE'S ENGINE HAS STALLED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS.THE ENGINE WILL STALL WHEN PUT IN TO DRIVE, REVERSE, WHILE IDLING OR WHEN STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER 2 YEARS OLD. THE FORD DEALERSHIP I BROUGHT IT TO HAS TRIED 4 TIMES TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WITH NO SUCCESS. THEY HAVE REPLACED VARIOUS PARTS; SENSORS, VALVES, ETC. THEY ALSO EXPRESSED TO ME THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE 11 MORE MONTHS ON MY LEASE AND HAVE REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT CAR UNDER THE LEMON LAW, WHICH THEY TOLD ME I DO NOT QUAILIFY FOR BECAUSE I HAVE OVER 18,000 MILES ON THE CAR. OBVIOUSLY, THE CAR IS DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE.*AK
I WAS IN A ROLL OVER ACCIDENT IN MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE WHILE DRIVING AT 25-30 MPH ON A PRIMARY ROAD IN CRESSKILL, NJ. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT AND I SAW THAT I WAS GOING TO HIT A PARKED VEHICLE. I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT, WHILE BREAKING, BUT THE ESCAPE DID NOT TURN. I IMPACTED THE PARKED VEHICLE, FLIPPED, SKIDDED 64 FEET ON THE ROOF OF MY ESCAPE, AND WAS ABLE TO REMOVE MYSELF FROM THE CAR WHEN HE CAME TO REST. I HAVE INTERESTING PICTURES OF THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL ASSEMBLY AND STEERING LINKAGES.*AK
I FILLED OUT A COMPLAINT AND THE # WAS CONFIRMATION NUMBER (ODI NUMBER) IS: 10019115. I HAD STUCK WRONG MILEAGE DOWN THE MILEAGE IS 38000 NOT 80000. *NLM
MY ESCAPE WILL START AND THEN STALL OR WHEN LETTING OFF THE GAS IT WILL STALL WHILE GOING AROUND BENDS OR JUST GOING DOWN THE ROAD. IT IS VERY ON SAFE BECAUSE WHEN GOING AROUND BENDS AND IT STALLS YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING. IT HAS HAPPEN OVER 20 TIMES NOW, AND IT HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING AND WHEN EVER IT WANTS TO. *NLM
FORD ESCAPE BRAKE ROTORS WORN OUT AFTER 30K MILES OF AVERAGE COMMUTING WITH NO OFF ROAD USE. BRAKE PADS NOT DOWN TO METAL, BUT ROTORS TOO WORN TO TURN ACCORDING TO SERVICE DEALER (PRESTIGE FORD A.K.A. FORD OF BELLEVUE). *NLM
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM AS STATED IN RECALL 00 V 277 001, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD. *JB
LOSS OF ALL FORWARD GEARS IN A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON AN ON RAMP TO AN EXPRESSWAY. *NLM
THE TIRES FELT AS IF THEY HAD A "FLAT SPOT" WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HANDLE VERY ROUGH. *JB
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A TOWN STREET, WE HEARD A POP ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. WITHIN SECONDS STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT, A STRONG VIBRATION AND LOUD REVING SOUND PERSISTED. THINKING WE HAD A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT SAT FOR THREE DAYS. THEY INSISTED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND INSISTED THEY LOOK HARDER AND THEY FOUND THE MOTOR MOUNT HAD BROKEN. WHILE IT IS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, IT IS OUR THIRD DEFECT IN A VEHICLE WE HAVE OWNED FOR A SHORT TIME.
THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
2001 FORD ESCAPE HAS REPEATEDLY STALLED DURING NORMAL DRIVING. CAR CURRENTLY HAS 33,000 MILES; HOWEVER, I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS EARLY ON. CAR HAS STRANDED ME SEVERAL TIMES. CAR HAS BEEN TOWED IN SEVERAL TIMES AND DEALERSHIP CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG IT. DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED ALTERNATOR, TRANSMISSION, FUEL HOSES, SENSOR, COMPUTER, ETC. AND CAR STILL STALLS. THIS WEEK IT HAD TO BE TOWED FROM MY GARAGE TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT START. DEALERSHIP AGAIN COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH CAR. I LOVE THE CAR, BUT AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT AS WHEN IT STALLS EVERYTHING LOCKS UP AND I HAVE HAD A COUPLE NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS TRYING TO GET OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE AN INFANT AND THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. *NLM
I PURCHASED 2001 USED VEHICLE FROM HERTZ CAR SALES WITH 27,000+ MILES. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED SECOND WEEK WE HAD VEHICLE. ALSO REALIZED THAT AC/HEATING SYSTEM HAD "WHISTLE" WHICH COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF. MAJOR PROBLEM HAS VEHICLE STALLING WHILE DRIVING, LOSING ALL POWER, BRAKES, ETC. FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED. FORD DEALER HAS WORKED ON PROBLEM, REPLACING TRANSMISSION, FIXING AC/HEAT SYSTEM AND ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE "STALLING" PROBLEM. THOUGHT IT HAD BEEN REPAIRED, HOWEVER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY. CAR AT FORD DEALER ONCE AGAIN. IT IS STRANGE TO ME THAT THEY DO NOT COMMENT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED NOT ONCE BUT MANY HUNDRED TIMES! I DEFINITELY FEEL THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE ESCAPE STALLING AND BEING UNABLE TO CONTROL. AS WE DRIVE ON MOUNTAIN ROADS, THIS COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. FORD HAS CERTAINLY LOST MY FUTURE BUSINESS BY NOT FACING THIS VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. MUST THERE BE FATALITIES BEFORE THEY ACT? *JB
THIRD TIME IN 2 YEARS SUV HAS LOST POWER DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKES NEARLY CAUSED MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS OF I-95. CALLED DEALER, WAS TOLD OTHER COMPLAINTS EXIST, FORD IS AWARE OF COMPLAINT, BUT UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM. *JB
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY TODAY. WENT TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL, AND THE LIGHT CAME ON. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED. WAS SET AT 65 MPH, SPEEDOMETER SHOWED RAPID DECELERATION EVEN THOUGH CRUISE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ENGAGED. HAD TO DISENGAGE AND MANUALLY CONTROL SPEED. FOUND 5 OTHER POSTS ON YAHOO INTERNET SITE FOR ESCAPE OWNERS. SAME PROBLEM. LIGHT ON, NO CRUISE. *JB
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION, AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED.*JB
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, AND THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN THE PASSENGER IN THE SEAT, WHICH CAUSED THE PASSENGER TO SUFFER INJURIES TO THE FACE.*JB
2001 FORD ESCAPE STALLED WHILE COASTING DOWN HILL AT 35 MPH. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT, I WAS ABLE TO STEER A "DEAD" CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT MANY FORD ESCAPE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM SINCE 2000, BUT TOOK 18 MONTHS TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ON BOARD COMPUTER. FORD HAS NOT RECALLED NOR DO THEY COVER THIS REPAIR UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. *JB
2001 ESCAPE STALLING - I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ESCAPE JUST STOPS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC OR WHEN I AM TURNING. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND I HAVE BEEN LUCKY SINCE IT HAPPENED ONCE ON THE INTERSTATE IN 4 FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC. I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT FORD ABOUT IT TO SEE IF THEY HAD A RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN AND THEY LEFT A VOICE MAIL WITH NO TELEPHONE NUMBER. NOW THEY HAVE UNANSWERED 3 ADDITIONAL EMAILS. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER AND HE SAYS HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT ESCAPE STALLING EVEN THOUGH IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET WHERE THEY SAY THE DEALERS CAN NOT FIX IT. MY DEALER IS JUST MAKING GUESSES. THIS IS WHY I WANTED AT LEAST A SERVICE BULLETIN SO I DO NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH A GUESSING GAME WITH MY DEALER. I AM VERY SCARED OF MY ESCAPE NOW ESPECIALLY IN INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. *JB

I HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCAPE XLT WITH APPROX. 54,000 MILES. NEAR THE END OF MY 45 MINUTE MORNING COMMUTE, AS I WAS SLOWING TO GO THROUGH A TRAFFIC LIGHT, MY VEHICLE STALLED AND I LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITIES. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS WAS THE 2ND TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED - THE FIRST WAS SHORTLY AFTER I FIRST PURCHASED THE CAR (IN EARLY 2002). I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS 'FALSE' WARNING LIGHTS THAT THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO REPRODUCE.

STALLS WHEN SLIGHTLY HITTING BRAKE TO HANDLE A CURVE, HAS ALSO HAPPENED IN PARKING LOTS WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN AND PARK. INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED 7-8 TIMES. *NLM
I JUST BOUGHT A USED 2001 FORD ESCAPE V6 ON DEC 13TH 2002. ON 1 FEB 2003, WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL, THE CAR'S ENGINE STALLED COMPLETELY. WITH MUCH DIFFICULTY, DUE TO LOSS OF ALL POWER, I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE IT ENTERED THE INTERSECTION ON A RED LIGHT. I PUT IT IN PARK AND IT DID START UP AGAIN. I CALLED THE WESTLAND FORD SERVICE DEPT. THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THAT HAPPENING. I ASKED IF THEY COULD PUT IT THROUGH A DIAGNOSTICS CHECK AND FIND OUT WHAT'S WRONG. THEY SAID UNLESS IT'S HAPPENING WHEN THE CAR IS THERE THEY PROBABLY WOULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ALSO SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THAT HAPPENING. THEY AGREED THAT IT WOULD BE HARD TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD SUBMIT MY COMPLAINT TO ENGINEERING... SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR USED, IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I FEEL THAT THEY SOLD THIS CAR TO ME KNOWING THAT IT HAD A PROBLEM. DO I HAVE ANY RECOURSE? HELP!
THE REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY DID NOT LOCK INTO PLACE DUE TO THE BUCKLE NOT ENGAGING. *AK *JB
VEHICLE ENGINE REVS/SEARCHES/HUNTS, WHILE DRIVING STEADY AND MAINTAINING A CONSTANT SPEED ON A LEVEL ROAD, GOING DOWN OR UP A HILL AND THE ACCELERATOR IS NOT BEING PLAYED WITH. INTERMITTENTLY VEHICLE HANDLING SEEMS TO LOSE THE POWER ASSIST - TURNING ALL OF THE SUDDEN REQUIRES MORE MUSCLE EFFORT - AND HANDLING GETS VERY STIFF. SUV HAS STALLED 5 TIMES ALREADY AND DEALER STILL UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. EVERY TIME - I LOST THE STEERING, THE BRAKES, THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. ESCAPE IS A VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS SUV - UNABLE TO PREDICT WHEN IT WILL STALL OR WHEN IT WILL SUDDENLY ACCELERATE (I DON'T DARE USE THE CRUISE CONTROL).
BACKING OUT INTO EMPTY ROAD, STOPPING AND TURNING VEHICLE WITH STEERING WHEEL IS VERY DIFFICULT APPLYING PRESSURE TO TURN, STRAIGHTEN WHEELS. WHILE DRIVING AND APPLYING BRAKES TO STOP, THE CAR SHAKES AND THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE APPLIED TO BRAKES IS ENORMOUSLY DIFFICULT TO MAKE CAR STOP. WITH NORMAL DRIVING THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND IN THE BOTTOM OF VEHICLE (DRIVE TRAIN?). ALL THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED WITH NO APPARENT HELP!
CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT-END COLLISION AT ABOUT 30-35 MPH IN DEC 2002. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. FORD DEALER REPAIRED DAMAGE. AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD FLASH AND STAY ON AT INTERMITTENT TIMES. DEALER CHECKED AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. RECENTLY THE AIR BAG LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH, THEN STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY, EVERY TIME VEHICLE WAS STARTED. NOW THE AIR BAG LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON, HOWEVER WE RECEIVE A SERIES OF 5 BEEPS, 5 TIMES, EVERY TIME CAR IS STARTED, AND EVERY 30 MINUTES IF VEHICLE IS RUNNING. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WERE TOLD THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE AIRBAG WIRING HARNESS. TOTAL COST = OVER $1100. DEALER WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALS WE ARE NOT THE ONLY CONSUMERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. PREMATURE FAILURE OF FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ON 2001, 2002 FORD ESCAPE/MAZDA TRIBUTE SUV'S. EVIDENTLY THE ROTORS ARE INSUFFICIENTLY HARDENED AND WEAR VERY RAPIDLY, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT AT 35,000 MILE INTERVALS. IF REPLACEMENT BRAKE PADS WERE INSTALLED WITHOUT REPLACING THE ROTORS. ROTOR FAILURE COULD RESULT BECAUSE OF TOO MUCH ROTOR MATERIAL BEING WORN AWAY. TS
MY 2001 FORD EXCAPE HAS 27,600 MILES ON IT. MY TIRES HAVE WORN OUT FROM THE OUTSIDE IN. I CARRIED IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. MY DEALER SAID I HAD RECEIVED A CHECK BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. I DID NOT. I DROVE IT OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR. NOW I HAVE TO BUY OVER $400 WORTH OF TIRES AND HAVE AN ALIGNMENT. THE LOCAL DEALER SAID I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE HAD A PRETTY GOOD LICK FOR IT TO HAVE ALL 4 OUT OF ALIGNMENT. I DO NOT HOTDOG THIS CAR. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT

DRIVER'S BELT BUCKLE (FEMALE PORTION) FAILS TO LOCK PROPERLY, PREVENTING USE OF SEAT BELT. DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN TRYING TO FIX. ORDERED WRONG PART ONCE AND HAS PROMISED OVERNIGHT DELIVERY OF REPLACEMENT. WHICH HE HAS ALSO FAILED TO DO. DT
I PURCHASED THIS FORD ESCAPE IN MARCH 2001 AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE. ON MARCH 26 2001, TWO DAYS AFTER I RECEIVED MY NEW VEHICLE, IT WOULDN'T START. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED THREE MORE TIMES IN A PERIOD OF TWO WEEKS BEFORE I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER ON APRIL 9 2001. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY WHICH WAS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS OTHER PROBLEMS WITH MY FORD ESCAPE. I REPORTED THAT THE THROTTLE WAS STICKING (5/17/02) AND IT WAS REPLACED, BUT IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. I ALSO REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A VIBRATION AND HESITATION WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AROUND 45 MPH (5/17/02). NOTHING WAS DONE AT THAT TIME TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I LATER (8/29/02) REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM TO THE DEALER, BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK FOR SERVICE ON 9/27/02 AT WHICH TIME THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. THERE IS STILL A HESITATION AND LOSS OF POWER AS I DRIVE THE VEHICLE. ALSO ON 5/11/02, THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON. THE FUEL EMISSIONS VALVE WAS REPLACED ON 5/17/02. ON 10/28/02, I REPORTED TO THE DEALER THAT MY VEHICLE ALMOST STALLED AT AN INTERSECTION ON 10/26/02 AND LATER THAT DAY IT WOULD NOT START. I ALSO TOLD THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT THERE CONTINUED TO BE A "LOSS OF POWER" AS I DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I BROUGHT THE ESCAPE BACK TO THE DEALER ON 10/30/02 AND THE TECHNICIAN FOUND "NOTHING WRONG" WITH THE VEHICLE FROM THE TESTS HE PERFORMED. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THESE RESULTS THERE IS SOMETHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE! DT
