DURING MY RECENT TRAVEL, MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE HAD A SMALL FIRE BURNING THE ABS WIRING WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE. THE ANTI-LOCK CONTROL UNIT/MODULE HAD A RECALL BACK IN 2007, 07S51, AND IN 2008 THE MODULE WAS INSPECTED. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE SAME DEALER THAT DID THE INSPECTION ONCE I REALIZED WHAT HAD RECENTLY HAPPENED TO SEE IF THE RECALL WOULD BE HONORED, REGARDLESS OF THE INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL HAD BEEN TAKEN CARE OF BY THE INSPECTION, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THE DEALER COULD DO, UNLESS THEY SOLD ME A $2,000 PART. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS TO INFORM THEM OF MY SITUATION, AND RECEIVED THE SAME RESPONSE, "THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO TO HONOR THE RECALL". MY MAIN CONCERN IS MY SAFETY, AND I COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR MY HOUSE COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. I AM DISTURBED IN THE RESPONSE BY FORD REGARDING MY SAFETY AND LACK OF ASSISTANCE AT THE CORPORATE LEVEL. I FEEL THAT FORD HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO ITS CUSTOMERS TO INSURE SAFETY, BUT DID NOT RECEIVE THAT ASSURANCE. REGARDLESS OF THE CAUSE OF THE DAMAGE TO THE ABS WIRING, DUE TO A FAULTY PART MY SAFETY WAS AT HIGH RISK. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD ANYTHING MAJOR OCCUR WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE OF THE VEHICLE'S SUPERB PERFORMANCE. I FEEL THAT THE INSPECTION "SOLUTION" OF THE RECALL DID NOT PREVENT THE WIRING TO CATCH FIRE, AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED EITHER AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL OR AFTER THE FIRE. *TR
DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT UNLOCKING PROPERLY. CONTACTED FORD ABOUT PROBLEM AND THEY INFORMED MOE TO PUT GREASE ON IT THIS DID NOT WORK. FORD ESCAPE TRIES TO QUITE WHILE RUNNING. REPLACED HOSES AND PLUGS AND PROBLEMS STILL GOING ON. FORD ESCAPE DOES NOT WANT TO STOP PROPERLY WITH NEW BRAKES OR BRAKES THAT ARE ONLY 10 TO 20 PERCENT WORN. ALSO LEAKS BRAKE FLUID HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE LEAK ON ESCAPE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE IGNITION; HOWEVER, THE KEY WOULD TURN IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE ANTI-THEFT WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO TURN IN ANY DIRECTION AND THE TIRES LOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ANTI-THEFT DEVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 91,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE XLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ABS MODULE AND WIRING HARNESS MELTED. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 07V156000 WAS REPAIRED WHICH WAS RELATED TO THE ABS MODULE AND WIRING HARNESS. THE RECALL COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE THAT THE DEALER DID NOT REPAIRS THE VEHICLE CORRECTLY; HOWEVER, THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE MODULES THAT BURNED AFTER THE FAULTY REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 162000.
THE TRUNK-DOOR (5TH DOOR) CANNOT BE OPENED WHEN EXPOSED TO THE SUN OR TEMPERATURE IS WARMER. IT CAN ONLY BE OPENED AFTER IT IS COOLER IN THE EVENING OR AT NIGHT. THE REAR-LEFT- PASSENGER-DOOR LOCKED AND CANNOT BE OPENED AT ALL. NOW PASSENGERS HAVE TO ENTER AND EXIT THE VEHICLE USING ONLY ONE RIGHT-PASSENGER-DOOR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND A VERY INCONVENIENT ONE. PLEASE HELP!!!!! *TR
I BOUGHT MY FORD ESCAPE ON AUGUST 16TH OF 2009, ALL THE DOORS WORKED FINE. I HAVE NOT BEEN IN ANY KIND OF ACCIDENT. ABOUT A YEAR AFTER BUYING MY CAR THE BACK DRIVER DOOR STOPPED OPENING, FOR NO REASON. THEN THE WINDOW IN THE SAME DOOR STOPPED WORKING. I DIDN'T MAKE A BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS, EVEN THOUGH I HAD TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK. THEN SHORTLY AFTER, THE OTHER BACK DOOR SEIZED TO OPEN. THIS HAPPENED IN THE SUMMER WHEN THE TEMPERATURES ARE WARM. WHEN I PUSH UNLOCK I HEAR CLICKING FROM THE DOORS. THEN NOT TO LONG AGO MY FIANCE AND I WENT OUT TO DINNER AND LOCKED THE CAR DOORS, AFTER LEAVING THE RESTAURANT HE TRIED TO UNLOCK THE DOORS AND THEY WOULDN'T OPEN. HE HAD TO CRAWL THROUGH THE WINDOW THAT IS BROKEN TO GET THE PASSENGER DOOR OPEN FOR ME. THE DRIVER DOOR NOW DON'T OPEN. THE ONLY DOOR THAT WORKS NOW IS THE PASSENGER DOOR AND THE BACK HATCH. I ALSO HAVE OTHER RECALLS I NEED TO GET REPAIRED AND HAVE NOT BROUGHT IT IN CAUSE OF THE DRIVER DOOR NOT OPENING. I KNOW I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM AND WHEN I RESEARCHED IT ONLINE I FOUND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH MY CAR ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THEREFORE I FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR AND IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO ESCAPE MY FORD ESCAPE. ACCELERATOR CABLE GETS STUCK UNDER PLASTIC ENGINE COVER. *TR
DESPITE NUMEROUS CALLS TO FORD, I STILL RECEIVE RECALL NOTICES ON THIS VEHICLE, HOWEVER IT WAS A CASH FOR CLUNKERS VEHICLE. I PARTICIPATED IN THIS PROGRAM AND THE VEHICLE WAS PERMANENTLY DISABLED BACK IN 2009/2010.
I HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE STAYING AT A HOTEL ON VACATION IN MARFA, TX, I WAS AWAKENED BY MY CAR ALARM GOING OF AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30 AM ON MAY 12, 2010. WHEN I WENT OUTSIDE TO TURN IT OFF, I FOUND SMOKE POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. OUR NEIGHBOR CALLED 911, AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SMOKE UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED. AS THE FIRE DEPT. WAS INSPECTING THE CAR, FLAMES DID APPEAR FROM THE ABS WIRING HARNESS AND MODULE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED QUICKLY AND DAMAGE WAS CONFINED TO THE ABS HARNESS AND MODULE. I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ABS HARNESS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, AND TOOK MY CAR TO A DEALERSHIP IN AUSTIN TO HAVE THE NECESSARY WORK PERFORMED. THAT WORK WAS PERFORMED ON AUGUST 6, 2008. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD TO LET THEM KNOW THAT MY CAR HAD CAUGHT FIRE EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEIR RECORDS SHOWED THAT THE ABS HARNESS ON MY CAR WAS INSPECTED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. AS OF MAY 16, 2010, MY CAR IS STILL AT A FORD DEALERSHIP IN FORT STOCKTON, TX AND I AM AT HOME IN AUSTIN WAITING TO HEAR FROM FORD'S OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNCIL. *TR
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WENT TO OPEN THE TRUNK DOOR AND IT WOULD NOT OPEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE THE DOOR FAILED. WHEN THE WEATHER GOT COOLER, THE DOOR OPENED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR ALSO FAILED. THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AT ALL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED HIM THAT HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THAT THOSE COMPONENTS WERE NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87400. MY DAUGHTER HAD A 2001 FORD ESCAPE, APPROX.98,000 MILES, PURCHASED USED. SERVICED & INSPECTED IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR WITH NO PROBLEMS NOTED. SHE PARKED IT IN FRONT OF HER HOME ON APRIL 30TH AFTER DRIVING HOME FROM A TRIP TO TOWN WITH HER 9 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER. APPROX. 10 MINUTES AFTER ENTERING HER HOME, SHE HEARD A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM OUTSIDE AND SAW HER VEHICLE SMOKING , THEN FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. TOTAL LOSS OF VEHICLE. FIRE MARSHAL ATTRIBUTED TO "ELECTRICAL PROBLEM" SOME DAMAGE ALSO TO HER HOME. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR SEVERAL DAYS AND WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START IT, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. A TOW TRUCK DRIVER WAS ABLE TO ASSIST THE CONTACT WITH STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AGAIN AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED A THIRD TIME. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO OFFER HIM ANY ASSISTANCE AND TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER OR REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 104,000.
MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE 3.0L V6, HAS AN ENGINE STALLING PROBLEM, AND AN REALLY BAD EMISIONS SYSTEM FAILURE. THE EXHAUST FUMES HAVE BEEN BACKING UP INTO THE VEHICLE FOR A LONG TIME NOW. MY HAIR FELL OUT, AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. I CONTACTED A FORD DEALERSHIP, BECAUSE I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT UNDER THE STATE AND FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY, SOME COMPONENTS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. HOWEVER THE DEALER WON'T HONOR IT, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 80,000 MILES. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AT 60,000 MILES. I AM NOT SURE IF THE ENGINE STALLING HAS CAUSED THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM TO FAIL OR THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM FAILURE HAS CAUSED THE ENGINE STALLING.THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE 3 TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE TURNING INTO A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY AT 5MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. ON A LATER DATE WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATED. THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED YET THE CONTACT DID NOT ENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE TRAVELING UPHILL GOING APPROX 45 MPH THE ENGINE ON MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE SHUT DOWN. COMPLETE POWER TO MY CAR WAS LOST. THE ODOMETER EVEN LOST THE MILES DRIVEN AND WAS REPLACED BY DASHES MOMENTARILY. WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN I STEERED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS INDICATION THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE. AFTER I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I PUT CAR IN PARK AND TURNED KEY OFF. I WAITED APPROX 5 MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF AND CAR STARTED SMOOTHLY AS USUAL. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE, I DON'T SEEM TO BE THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS ISSUE. *TR
HAVE AT DIFFERENT TIMES THE MOTOR REEVES. SOMETIMES WHEN THE CRUISE IS SET, AND SOMETIMES WHEN IT'S IN PARK. NEVER KNOW WHAT MAKES IT HAPPEN OR WHEN IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. DO HAVE WITNESSES AT THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED. HAPPENED TO BE AT THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT, PULLED UP AND STOPPED, ONLY TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. WHICH THE PARAMEDICS HAPPENED TO HEAR IT AND GOT VERY CONCERNED. ALTHOUGH IT'S HAPPENED BEFORE SEVERAL TIMES, THE EMT'S STRONGLY URGED US TO REPORT THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. HE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER; HOWEVER THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE TO STOP THE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY YET THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 30,422. THE CONSUMER STATED HE NO LONGER OWNS THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 10/26/10*JB
DRIVING 2001 FORD ESCAPE, V-6, 3.0L. AT INTERSECTION BRAKES FAILED AND COULD NOT STOP VEHICLE. PARKED VEHICLE AT NEAREST POSSIBLE LOCATION AND FOUND BRAKE HOSE LEADING TO PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER HAD CRACKED ALLOWING FLUID TO LEAK OUT AND RELEASE PRESSURE FROM THE BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V156000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 85 MPH. SHE PUT BOTH OF HER FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. SHE TRIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH ALSO DID NOT RESPONSE. AFTER A LONG WHILE, SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO DECELERATE TO 40 MPH. SHE THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND WAS THEN ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF. SHE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOLD HER THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 135,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN 2001. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN HIS DRIVEWAY HE WAS NOTIFIED THAT IT WAS ON FIRE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, HE SAW BLACK SMOKE UNDER THE DASHBOARD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE; HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE REAR WINDOW OF MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE THAT WAS PARKED IN MY ATTACHED GARAGE EXPLODED SOMETIME DURING THE NIGHT. THE WINDOW WAS NOT CRACKED AT ANY TIME. I DROVE IT AT AROUND 10:30PM LESS THAN 1/4 MILE THE PREVIOUS NIGHT AND PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE. THE NEXT DAY AROUND 1:30PM, UPON ENTERING MY GARAGE, I NOTICED SOMETHING BLACK BEHIND MY CAR - TURNED OUT TO BE PIECES OF MY REAR WINDOW ON THE FLOOR AND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED MANY CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ON LINE REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. FORD HAS NOT ISSUED ANY TYPE OF RECALL OR OFFERED ANY LEGITIMATE EXPLANATION. CALLED AVIS FORD IN SOUTHFIELD, MI - NO SATISFACTORY RESULT - ONLY $402 COST OF REPAIR - CLAIMS NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE POSSIBLE DANGER OF INJURY TO PASSENGERS IN THE REAR SEAT IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN IN THE CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMAINED STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD AFTER HER FOOT WAS REMOVED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, NOR WAS THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH UP A HILL THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE BEYOND THE SET SPEED ON THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CONTACT WAS NOT ABLE TO DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT THE RPMS CONTINUED TO INCREASE EXCESSIVELY. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY RAN SOME TESTS. THEY SAID THE ABS MODULE WAS PROBABLY THE CAUSE BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE ONE IN STOCK. THEY WOULD ORDER IT AND CONTACT ME TO SCHEDULE INSTALLATION. THEY DID NOT INDICATE THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. I DROVE THE CAR BACK HOME AND TO WORK THE NEXT DAY. ON THE WAY HOME AFTER WORK A FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT LEFT FRONT SIDE WHICH IS NEAR THE BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS. I PUT THE FIRE OUT AND CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER THE NEXT DAY. NEITHER FORD OR FARMERS INSURANCE COULD PINPOINT THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE BUT THEIR WAS DAMAGE AROUND THE ABS AND ITS WIRING. FORD HAS DENIED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGE. I REMEMBERED A SAFETY RECALL WAS DONE PREVIOUSLY HAVING TO DO WITH THE ABS. I RECHECKED AND DISCOVERED THAT SIMILAR FIRES WERE THE REASON FOR THE RECALL. FORD SAID THEY DID PERFORM THE RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I CHECKED FURTHER ON LINE AND SAW THAT A SAFETY INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED BECAUSE THE REMEDY BY FORD HAS NOT ELIMINATED VEHICLE ABS WIRING FIRES. AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CAUSED THE ABS TO MALFUNCTION. THIS ILLUMINATED THE ABS WARNING LIGHT, WHICH CAUSED THE ABS CONTROL MODULE TO OVERHEAT RESULTING IN A BURNING ODOR, SMOKE, AND ENGINE FIRE. THIS CONDITION OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE IGNITION SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF POSITION, AND WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED. IT TURNS OUT THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL RECALLS ON THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL WHICH I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT THE RECALLS. TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE TOLD ME THAT IF THE VIN FOR MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, THEN THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT OBLIGATED TO FIX THE SAFETY DEFECT. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE ANTI- LOCK BRAKES NOW BECAUSE THE CONTROL MODULE HAS BURNED UP, AND THE FUSES HAD TO BE REMOVED. NOW I WAS TOLD THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ON THE MANIFOLDS ARE PLUGGED UP AND THIS IS CAUSING THE HESITATION AND THE OIL LEAK WAS FROM THE TIMING CHAIN COVER. DEALERSHIP HAD TO REMOVE THE ENGINE TO REPLACE THE GASKET. WAS TOLD THEY DON'T KNOW HOW THEY MISSED THIS LEAK THE OTHER 2 TIMES I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THIS LEAK. ONLY THING THE WARRANTY COVERED IS THE OIL LEAK. FEDERAL MANDATED EMISSION LAW IS 8YRS OR 80,000 MILES. VEHICLE IS IN THE 8 YEARS AND @ 75,500 MILES. FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE CONVERTERS. MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE ALARM STARTED GOING OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY, UPON INVESTIGATION THERE WAS SMOKE BILLOWING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WE OPENED THE HOOD AND USED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON THE ABS BRAKE MODULE/WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY, ALLSTATE INSURANCE STATES THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE. I HAD COMPLETED THE RECALL FOR THIS PART IN FEBRUARY OF 2008, 10 MONTHS LATER MY VEHICLE CATCHES ON FIRE. THE REPAIRS COMPLETED AT FORD SINCE THE FIRE HAVE BEEN TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS, THE HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK CONTROL UNIT/MODULE AND OTHER AFFECTED BURNT PARTS. *TR
ON OCCASION THE DRIVERS DOOR AND BACK PASSENGER DOOR LATCHES WILL NOT RELEASE TO ALLOW DOOR TO OPEN WHEN PULLING HANDLE TO OPEN. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE DOOR OPEN. NOW, FRONT PASSENGER LATCH WILL NOT RELEASE AT ALL, CAUSING THE DOOR TO NOT BE USABLE. I SPOKE WITH FORD AT 18003923673 AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY YOUNG CHILDREN, WHO RIDE IN THE BACK, WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. IF WE WERE EVER IN AN ACCIDENT EMERGENCY HELP MAY NOT BE ABLE TO REACH THEM IN A TIMELY MANNER AND THE CHILDREN MAY BECOME TRAPPED. IN THE EVENT THAT THE FRONT DOOR WOULD NOT LONGER OPEN THE PASSENGER , MYSELF, HAD TO CLIMB OVER THE SEATS TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
STUCK ACCELERATOR - FORD ESCAPE MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING OVER DEAD MAN'S PASS IN OREGON. A TREACHEROUS PASS EVEN ON A GOOD DAY. FORD ESCAPE 2001 ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK AT 80 MILES P/H. MY SISTER AND HER FAMILY WERE FOLLOWING BEHIND US. MY HUSBAND INSISTED THAT HE COULD DRIVE THE OUT OF CONTROL CAR INTO LAGRANDE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH AND DEMANDED HE TRY TO GET THE CAR TO STOP AND LET ME OUT . HE DID THIS BY PUTTING CAR IN NEUTRAL, TURNING IT OFF, AND COASTING TO A STOP (I THINK). I GOT OUT, CRAWLED INTO MY SISTER'S CAR SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. MY HUSBAND DID GET THE CAR INTO LAGRANDE. AS HE CAME INTO THE LOT, IT WAS SCREECHING SIDEWAYS, TIRES SMOKING, AND NEARLY TIPPED OVER. THE FORD DEALERSHIP FIXED IT - AT GREAT EXPENSE TO ME. I PAID THE MECHANIC'S BILL, PLUS TOOK A FLIGHT TO PENDLETON, THEN A 1 HOUR SHUTTLE TO LA GRANDE, OREGON, THEN DROVE HOME 4 HOURS. 5 YEARS LATER I STILL HAVE "ACCELERATOR ANXIETY." ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, I GOT A RECALL FROM FORD. I TOOK IT DEALERSHIP HERE IN PORTLAND. THEY LOOKED AT THE MECHANIC'S RECEIPT AND SAID THE PROBLEM THAT WAS FIXED, WAS NOT THE SAME AS THE RECALL AND WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME. *TR

HE NOTICED THAT THERE WERE NEW BRAKE LINES ON THE DEFECTIVE ROTORS AND WOULD NOT ALLOW HIS CHILD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. HE ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE BALL JOINT ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED AFTER THREE HUNDRED MILES. THE USED CAR DEALER, FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, STATED THAT THEY WOULD PURCHASE A NEW MOTOR UNDER THE WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE NON-WORKING ENGINE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 123,800.

THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V156000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI-LOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE) FOR THE SAME FAILURE. HE WENT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2007, THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPAIRED. THEREFORE, THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT FORD WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY REPAIRS THAT NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 104,000.

ON JULY 4TH, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. SUDDENLY, THE ACCELERATOR STUCK AND MY HUSBAND WAS UNABLE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN WITH THE BRAKES. HE TURNED OFF THE CAR AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LITHIA FORD FOR REPAIR. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS "CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FAILED". THE RECEIPT STATED THAT "CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FAILED 1.00 VERIFIED, CRUISE CONTROL CABLE SHEATH BROKEN AND CABLE END FLIPS OVER CAUSE THROTTLE TO BE HELD OPEN". THE FORD SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT HE HAD SEEN SEVERAL ESCAPE'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT HIS MANAGER SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL AND FORD WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. *TR
