TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND BECAME WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR FENDER WELL RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MECHANIC RECOMMENDED THAT THE VEHICLE NOT BE DRIVEN DUE TO A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000. MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND HIT A BUMP AND HEARD A VERY LOUD NOISE IN THE BACK RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHCILE (RATTLED VERY LOUD). WHEN WE GOT HOME, I CHECKED ALL INSIDE THE CAR, NOTHING WAS LOOSE, I CHECKED UNDER THE CHECK THINKING A SHOCK ABSORBER HAD BROKEN AND NOTICED THE PASSENGER SIDE INNER WHEEL WELL WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN THROUGH. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I TOOK THE CARE TO A BODY SHOP AND THE MAN TOLD ME HE HAD SEEN A LOT OF THIS PROBLEM ON 2005 FORD ESCAPES WHERE THE SHOCK ABSORBER HAD BEEN HITTING ON THE WHEEL WELL UNTIL IT FINALLY BURST THROUGH. HE FURTHER STATED THAT HE HAD ONLY SEEN IT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. HE CHECKED ALL THE OTHER WHEEL WELLS AND THEY ARE FINE.THE ENTIRE WHEEL WELL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND WITH NO GUARANTEE OF HOW LONG THAT WILL HOLD. HE SAID TO GET IT FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THERE IS NO RUST ON THE VEHICLE AND THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM WE HAVE HAD WITH ANY BODY/SUSPENSION ON THE CAR THAT WE HAVE OWNED SINCE 2006. *TR

THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED AND WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
THE REAR SHOCK MOUNT WENT THROUGH RUSTED WHEEL WELL AND INTO TRUNK. *TR
THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK TOWER RUSTED THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL INTO THE REAR COMPARTMENT BREAKING A HOLE THROUGH THE INTERIOR COMPARTMENT. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO PARTS IN STOCK TO REPAIR THIS AS WE ARE TOLD THEY ARE ON NATIONWIDE BACKORDER AND THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THE OTHER REAR SHOCK AREA HAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RUST ALSO. APPROXIMATELY 1 WEEK LATER BOTH BREAK LINES BROKE FROM SEVERE CORROSION WHILE MOVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH (PULLING IN MY DRIVEWAY). I WAS FORTUNATE THIS HAPPENED THERE AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY AS I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT ALONG WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON. THESE TWO THINGS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING WITH THE AGE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE BODY SHOULD BE HOLDING UP BETTER THAN THIS. I JUST SAW THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MODEL YEARS 2001-2004 FOR SEVERE RUST ISSUES ONE RESULTING IN A CRASH. THE MANUFACTURING DATE OF MY VEHICLE IS 09/2004. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NO PARTICULAR SPEED, THERE WAS A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE IN THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHOCK SEPARATED FROM THE WHEEL WELL. THE WHEEL WELL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
RIGHT BACK SHOCK CAME THROUGH WHEEL WELL AND BROKE THROUGH INTERIOR OF CAR. CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO RUST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE TO ACCELERATE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPUTER AND THE IGNITION COILS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
2005 FORD ESCAPE. I HAVE NOTICED RUST ON REAR FENDER WELLS IN THE PAST. IN SUMMER 2013, I FOUND A HOLE INTO THE PASSENGER AREA FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL. FILLED HOLE AND ATTEMPTED TO UNDERCOAT TO PREVENT ADDITIONAL RUST. DECEMBER 26, 2013, WHILE DRIVING I HIT A BUMP AND HEARD A LOUD BANGING NOISE IN BACK RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. DRIVING BECAME DIFFICULT AFTER THE BUMP, SO I STOPPED TO INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE. THE SHOCK HAD SEPARATED FROM THE UNI-BODY/WHEEL WELL DUE TO CORROSION. THE NOISE WAS THE SHOCK HITTING THE PLASTIC INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON A REPLACEMENT PANEL AND I FOUND THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE FORD ESCAPE WITH NUMEROUS EXAMPLES OF THIS SAME ISSUE. IT APPEARS THAT THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL OF THE FORD ESCAPE HAS A DESIGN FLAW CAUSING THE SHOCK TO SEPARATE FROM THE UNI-BODY. DRIVING BECOME DIFFICULT DURING THIS FAILURE AS THE VEHICLE IS RIDING ON THE SPRING AND THE SHOCK IS NOT ABLE TO REDUCE THE TIRE BOUNCE. *TR
LOUD THUMPING NOISE OCCURS OVER ANY SIZE BUMP. ON INSPECTION REPAIR SHOP FOUND REAR RIGHT WHEEL WELL RUSTED OUT AND NO MOUNT EXISTING FOR THE SHOCK ABSORBER. NO OTHER WHEEL WELL HAS THIS PROBLEM. DEFINITE DESIGN FLAW THAT COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF CONTROL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER DRIVING OVER A POTHOLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWAY AND THE CONTACT HEARD A CRACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL HOUSE PANEL HAD SEPARATED DUE TO RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE-WELL RUSTED OUT. IT RUSTED WHERE THE SHOCK IS ATTACHED. THIS ENTIRE PIECE RUSTING CAUSED THE SHOCK TO NO LONGER BE ATTACHED TO MY VEHICLE. WE LATER DISCOVER THE ACCELERATED CORROSION WAS FROM FAULTY DRAINS IN THE VEHICLE. FORD ACKNOWLEDGES THE DRAIN PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE EXPEDITED RUSTING. WITH FAULTY DRAINS IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE OTHER TIRE-WELL ALSO RUSTS OUT. LUCKILY I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WHEN I DID, I HAD BEEN PLANNING ON TOWING A UHAUL CROSS-COUNTRY TWO DAYS OUT. IF I HAD BEEN TOWING AND THE SHOCK GAVE OUT, THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID MY VEHICLE WOULD HAVE STARTED TO ROLL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED SOMETHING BANGING IN THE BACK END OF THE TRUCK. I THOUGHT IT AS THE MUFFLER THAT CAME LOOSE. TO MY SURPRISE WHEN I LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE I FOUND THAT THE REAR PASSENGER INNER WHEEL WELL WAS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT. THERE WAS ONLY ABOUT AN INCH OF METAL LEFT. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON OCTOBER 15TH OF 2013. I HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM BEFORE. I DID RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET ONLY TO FIND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. I TRIED ORDERING THE PART FROM A FORD DEALER AND THEY SAY IT IS ON BACK ORDER. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE PART FROM FORD SO THE MAZDA TRIBUTE IS THE SAME SO I AM ORDERING THE PART FROM THEM. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE SO I HAVE TO HAVE IT RUNNING . I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE SINCE DECEMBER 17TH, 2013. I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTOBODY SHOP TO HAVE THIS WORK DONE. I SURELY HOPE THIS PART WORKS BECAUSE IF IT DOESN'T I CAN NOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE, AND I ALSO WENT TO THERE RECALL WEBSITE TO CHECK FOR MYSELF AND COULD NOT FIND ANY LISTED. I AM GOING TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY BUT IT IS PROBABLY NOT GOING TO DO ANY GOOD. SOMEONE NEEDS TO FILE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST THEM BUT THEN ONLY THE LAWYERS WIN. BACKING OUT OF GARAGE CAR DIED. TRYING TO ACCELERATE AT STOP LIGHTS TRIES TO DIE HESITATES JERKS THEFT LIGHT CONES ON. UPON TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO ENTER FREEWAY SAME THING AND WHEN TRYING TO PASS A CAR. CAME UPON S HILL AND IT ALMOST DIED N WOULD NOT GO OVER 50 MPH ALMOST CAUSING WRECKS VERY SCARY DAY. EARLIER IN WEEK DIED A COUPLE TIMES WHILE IDLING BUT THIS ACCELERATING PROBLEM IS HAZARDOUS. IF IT IS THROTTLE BODY WHICH IT PROBABLY IS FROM WHAT I'M READING ON THE INTERNET. I NOTICED THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES IN THE VEHICLE AND A FEW WEEKS LATER HEARD LOAD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM REAR CARGO AREA. I LOOK AND SAW THE REAR WHEEL WELL WAS RUSTED THREW INTO THE CARGO AREA AND THE REAR SHOCK MOUNTS WERE RUSTED OFF. *TR
WHEN I OPENED THE REAR HATCH ON MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE I NOTICED THE PLASTIC MOLDING WAS CRACKED, AFTER LOOKING AT IT CLOSER I NOTICED THAT THE WHOLE RIGHT REAR SHOCK MOUNT WAS RUSTED OUT ANT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE WHEEL WELL. I HAVE CONTACTED MANY BODY SHOPS THAT SAY THE PROBLEM IS FIXABLE BUT DO TO LIABILITY THEY CAN NOT FIX IT. AFTER RESEARCHING IT ONLINE ON THE FORD FORUM I FOUND OUT THAT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. ONE POST ON THE FORUM SAYS THAT THE ENGINEERS OF THE ESCAPE SAID IT IS A DESIGN FLAW CAUSING THE PROBLEM BUT THEY WON'T PUT IT IN WRITING FOR FEAR OF LOSING THEIR JOBS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED FOR IT. IF THE SHOCK WOULD HAVE CAME OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND HIT THE ROAD OR SOMETHING UNDER THE VEHICLE IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A ACCIDENT. FRONT END K SUB-FRAME RUSTED THROUGH. THIS VEHICLE IS TOO NEW AND IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL, BUT ALREADY HAS A HOLE RUSTED THROUGH THE SUB-FRAME. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2013 I LEFT HOME TO DO ERRANDS AS I DROVE DOWN TO THE FIRST INTERSECTION AND STOPPED WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN THE GAS PEDAL WITH NOT MOVE IT WAS STUCK, I TRIED TO PUSH IT DOWN WITH BOTH FEET BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER, FINALLY AFTER PUMPING THE PEDAL THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND I MADE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. I DECIDED TO GO BACK HOME AND NOT DRIVE THIS CAR. AS I TRAVEL THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND DOWN THE ROAD I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN THE PEDAL STUCK. I'M ON A 35 MPH HIGHWAY AND I SLOWED TO A TERRIFYING 3MPH BEFORE THE PEDAL WOULD WORK AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MANY AND THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF INVESTIGATION OR RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR A FATAL ACCIDENT HAPPENS! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE INNER QUARTER PANEL AND WHEEL HOUSE PANEL WERE CORRODED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT THE SHOCK HAD BECOME COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE FRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A THREE INCH HOLE WAS DISCOVERED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL, EXPOSING A DAMAGED SHOCK ABSORBER. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEFECT WAS NOT REPAIRABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
2005 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED HAS A SAFETY ISSUE SO BAD THAT IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE RIGHT REAR FENDER WELL HAS RUSTED OUT AROUND THE SHOCK MOUNT, READY OR CLOSE TO BREAKING FREE. *TR
BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT HATCH WINDOW HINGES BROKE LEAVING THE WINDOW HANGING. BOLTS OXIDIZED THROUGH PRODUCING THIS FAILURE. THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED EVEN IF THERE WAS NO ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE LIFT GATE WINDOW. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, THE WINDOW COULD HAVE POSSIBLY BROKEN COMPLETELY OFF AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO VEHICLES AND/OR PERSONS THAT WERE FOLLOWING. THE LIFTGATE WINDOW HINGE PART # IS 420A68. *TR

THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND UPON INSPECTION, NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL WELL WAS CORRODED AND THE REAR SHOCK WAS NO LONGER MOUNTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
I PULLED INTO 45 MPH TRAFFIC AND THE THROTTLE SEEMED TO BE STUCK OPEN AND DID NOT SLOW WHEN MY FOOT WAS REMOVED FROM THE ACCELERATOR. I PRESSED UP AND DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR WITH MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO SLOW AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN TRYING TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN MOTION AGAIN, THE ACCELERATOR COULD NOT BE BUDGED. I WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE BEEN PROBLEM FREE FOR 4-5 MONTHS BUT AM NOTICING A STICKING PROBLEM AGAIN. I HAVE SEEN ONLINE THAT THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. I CALLED FORD BUT THEIR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM WHICH HELPS WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY IS CURRENTLY ONLY FOR MODEL YEARS 2009-2012. THIS IS DANGEROUS, CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS GREATLY AFFECTED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PCM HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,487. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM BYERS KIA 9 MONTHS AGO. I RECENTLY JUST MADE MY 8TH PAYMENT ON IT. 1 MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE I NOTICED A SLIGHT VIBRATION FROM 15-25 MPH. WELL ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 3RD MY DRIVE SHAFT QUIT WORKING. WE INSTALLED A U JOINT HOPING THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT ONLY MADE IT WORSE. I HAVE THE DEALERSHIP WORKING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OVER AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE NOTICED A LOUD BANGING SOUND. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR WHEEL WELL SHOCK TOWER WAS CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
ABS LIGHT CAME ON. 4WD LIGHT STARTED BLINKING. THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE WHEEL/BRAKE AREA OF THE VEHICLE. THE ABS LIGHT REMAINED ON BUT THE 4WD FLASHED AND THEN TURNED OFF. IT CAME BACK ON INTERMITTENTLY AND FLASHED SEVERAL TIMES. THERE SEEMED TO BE NO FUNCTIONAL PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES OR WHEELS. *TR
MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND IT STARTED TO SPUTTER. DID THE SAME THING THE NEXT TIME IT WAS DRIVEN AND HAS EVER SINCE. I HAD IT TO TWO MECHANICS WHICH SAID THAT THE #4 WAS MISFIRING AND START COIL PROBLEM. REPLACED.. NOT WORKING STILL. HAVE TALKED TO TWO DEALERSHIPS ABOUT IT ONE TOLD ME TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THEM. GOING TO ONE CLOSER SO THAT I CAN TALK TO THEM. BOTH SAY THERE IS A PROBLEM. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ FORD COMPANY HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO FIX IT. NOT SURE IF I WILL BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT. I PREFER FORD BUT MAY HAVE TO GO WITH A DIFFERENT FORD VEHICLE. WE HAVE HAD EVERYTHING ELSE BUT THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A FORD. REAR WHEEL WELL TOTALLY RUSTED AWAY AND SHOCK WAS BANGING WHEN TRIED TO FIND PART FROM JUNK YARD ALL 2005 ESCAPE HAD RUSTED OFF WHEEL WELLS THE OTHER SIDE IS NOW GOING TO DO THE SAME THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE. HAD JUST DONE MANY REPAIRS WAS PLANNING ON KEEPING IT BUT NOW IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE SEEMS TO ME THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL IF IT IS HAPPENING TO MANY ESCAPES OF THIS YEAR CAN ANYTHING BE DONE THIS HAS BEEN A GOOD RUNNING CAR UNTIL NOW THIS PROBLEM IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED. IT HAD ONLY ABOUT 70,000 MILES ON IT. I AM THE SECOND OWNER HAVE FILLED IT WITH GAS SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE NOTICED THAT WE CANNOT KEEP THE NOZZLE ON FULL BECAUSE THE GAS BACKS UP IN THE FILLER TUBE AND THE FUEL NOZZLE SHUTS-OFF. SOMETIMES WE CAN'T EVEN PUT IT ON THE AUTOMATIC LOW. WE MUST SIT THERE AND KEEP SQUEEZING THE NOZZLE UNTIL IT SHUTS OFF, AND THEN SQUEEZE THE HANDLE AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) ON THIS PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS THAT FORD INCORRECTLY DESIGNED THE FILLER TUBE. APPARENTLY IT IS TOO NARROW. SO NOW THEY HAVE A REDESIGNED TUBE THAT IS LARGER IN DIAMETER. BUT SINCE THIS CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, FORD WON'T FIX IT, AND THIS AIN'T SOME EASY INEXPENSIVE FIX...IT COSTS OVER $800 TO DO IT. YOU GOT TO DROP THE TANK. THE NEW CORRECT PART COSTS $300, AND THE LABOR IS ABOUT $500. WHAT YOU NHTSA FOLKS DON'T SEEM TO REALIZE IS THAT IS POTENTIALLY SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COULD ALLOW CONSUMERS TO BE SPLASHED WITH GASOLINE IF THE FUEL NOZZLE SHUT-OFF SYSTEM FAILS, BECAUSE FUEL SHUT-OFF SYSTEM FAILS ALL THE TIME. I HAVE PERSONALLY WITNESSED THIS SEVERAL TIMES...WITH GAS OVERFLOWING OTHER PEOPLES CARS. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE MUST REMAIN AT THE CAR WHILE FILLING IT...THESE AUTOMATIC NOZZLES FAIL ALL THE TIME. THIS FUEL FILLING SYSTEM ISSUE IS A POTENTIALLY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM, CONSUMERS MUST NOT BE REQUIRED TO RELY ON OTHER SAFETY SYSTEMS, BECAUSE THOSE SYSTEMS WILL FAIL. FORD DESIGNED A DEFECTIVE FUEL FILLER SYSTEM, AND NHTSA MUST MAKE FORD FIX THEM, AT FORD'S EXPENSE' IF NHTSA IS UNWILLING TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC FROM UNREASONABLE RISK...THEN WHAT GOOD ARE THEY? ANYTHING THAT POTENTIALLY INVOLVES CONSUMERS GETTING SPLASHED WITH GASOLINE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD PERIOD. *TR
HAD CAR IN THE SHOP FOR OIL CHANGE AND IT WAS NOTED BY THE MECHANIC THAT BOTH FRONT BRAKE LINES ARE SHOWING SIGNS OF CRACKING AND DETERIORATION. IN DANGER OF FAILING. DRIVING AT 8AM BETWEEN BOULDER, CO AND LONGMONT, CO, ON OCTOBER 15TH, 2013. THE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 30 DEGREES, WHICH IT HAD BEEN AROUND FOR THE WHOLE DRIVE, ABOUT 45 MINUTES AT THAT POINT. I HAD JUST COME DOWN FROM ABOUT 8000FT ELEVATION TO ABOUT 5000FT ELEVATION (WITH A GOOD BIT OF UP AND DOWN AND SOME BUMPY ROADS IN BETWEEN), BUT HAD BEEN AT THAT ELEVATION ON CITY STREETS FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. THERE HAD BEEN LIGHT SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS, BUT NONE ONCE I WAS ON THE PLAINS. I HAD BEEN RUNNING MY REAR DEFROST OFF AND ON (THOUGH I DIDN'T NOTICE IF IT WAS ON OR OFF AT THE EXACT TIME OF THE INCIDENT), AS WELL AS HEAT AND FRONT DEFROST. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 30 MPH ON A SMOOTH HIGHWAY WHEN I HEARD A VERY LOUD NOISE, THEN SAW THAT MY REAR WINDOW WAS GONE, COMPLETELY SHATTERED. I HAD OPENED THE REAR WINDOW TO LOAD THE CAR BEFORE LEAVING. *TR
THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL CARRIER IS COMPLETELY ERODED WITH THE VEHICLE BEING DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITHOUT EXTENSIVE STRUCTURAL/BODY WORK TO REPAIR. THIS ISSUE IS OBVIOUSLY DUE TO FAULTY MATERIAL USED BY FORD AS THE OTHER WHEEL CARRIERS AND THE VEHICLE IN GENERAL ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON THE INTERNET BUT FORD IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY AND RECALLING THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS A MIRACLE THAT WE WERE NOT IN A FATAL ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE'S CURRENT CONDITION AND ONLY TOOK IT IN WHEN THE ISSUE BECAME KNOWN WHEN A LOUD NOISE STARTED AS THE FRAME WAS COLLAPSING DUE TO THE LACK OF SUPPORT. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW AND AS THE ONLY OWNER KNOW THAT NO ACCIDENT OR ISSUE OTHER THAN FAULTY MATERIAL COULD HAVE CAUSED THE CORROSION. FORD IS UNWILLING TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAS NO PLANS TO REVIEW FURTHER OR ISSUE A RECALL TO PROTECT THE SAFETY OF OTHER OWNERS. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE INNER WHEEL WELL WAS CORRODED, CAUSING THE SHOCK TO COLLIDE WITH THE PLASTIC PANEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

SEEMS THAT THUMPING IS DUE TO WHEEL OR SUSPENSION PARTS BEING IMPROPERLY SUPPORTED DUE TO CORROSION OF/IN AREA OF WHEEL WELL. SPECIFICALLY, SHOCK AND/OR LARGE COIL SPRING ARE HITTING INTERIOR PANEL(S) OF VEHICLE. *TR

THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL IS TOTALLY DEFECTIVE AND UNSEEN CORROSION CAN WEAKEN OR DESTROY THE SHOCK ABSORBER TOWER. DRIVERS ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUES UNTIL THE SHOCK BREAKS FREE OF THE WHEEL WELL AND JAMS INTO THE BODY. THIS ISSUE OCCURS BECAUSE AWD SUVS HAVE THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL THAT ALWAYS SPINS IN SNOW AND ICE, WHICH IN TURN OVER SPRAYS THE RIGHT REAR WELL WITH CORROSIVE MATERIAL. *TR

AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, FOUND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR AND MAKE VEHICLE. DOES NOT APPEAR THAT FORD WANTS TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAULTY MANUFACTURING AND/OR MATERIALS. *TR
ABS LIGHT SUDDENLY CAME ON AND I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKES ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO STOP THE CAR. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP, THERE WAS NO ABS LIGHT OR SERVICE ENGINE INDICATOR. MECHANIC SAID THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND POSSIBLY THE HCU. BUT THEY DON'T KNOW IF THAT WILL FIX IT. *JS
