MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2005 FORD ESCAPE. SHE FAILED TO YIELD AND HIT A 2006 DODGE CHARGER, THAT WAS GOING CLOSE TO 45 MPH, IN THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SMASHING IN BOTH OF HIS DOORS. THE FRONT OF HER CAR IS DAMAGED ENOUGH TO BREAK OFF THE ENGINE MOUNT, FRONT BUMPER IS GONE, WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID RESERVOIR WAS ACTUALLY ON THE PAVEMENT. ALL OF THIS AND THE AIRBAGS WERE NOT DEPLOYED. THE SHOP THAT THE CAR IS BEING REPAIRED AT SAYS THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED IN THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT. HAD THIS BEEN AT A SLIGHTLY HIGHER SPEED WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT A DEATH, NOT AN INJURY. *TR
WE FIRST EXPERIENCED THE STICKING GAS PEDAL IN MAYBE 2008. WE BROUGHT IT TO HAWK FORD IN OAK LAWN, ILL AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR TRUCK.. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUED ON AND OFF FOR YEARS. THE LAST STRAW WAS WHEN MY HUSBAND HAD TO DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE GAS PEDAL TO GET TO OUR HOUSE. I HAD PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THIS LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION TO YOUR DATABASE A FEW YEARS AGO. I FOLLOWED UP WITH SEVERAL LETTERS/E-MAILS TO FORD, ALL OF WHICH WERE UNSYMPATHETIC AND MET WITH VEILED SARCASM AND LACK OF INTEREST. I STILL WONDER HOW THEY SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING THIS TERRIBLE AND DANGEROUS DEFECT IS REAL. *TR
1. NO KNOW EVENT LEAD TO FAILURE 2. SAFETY CONCERN OF OPERATING A VEHICLE WITH INCORRECT SPEED INDICATION 3. 2005 FORD ESCAPE (LIMITED) 67,000 MILES SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT RETURN TO ZERO, AND INCREMENTS SPEED TO BEYOND UPPER LIMIT OF 120 MPH. 4. DEALER STATES IT IS AN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD ESCAPE XLT THAT HAS 46000 MILES ON IT AND I HAD BOTH TONE RINGS REPLACED AND I THINK THE ONE IS BAD AGAIN AND IT IS ONLY A YEAR OLD. I ONLY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ON THE PAVED ROADS AND MY SHORT DIRT ROAD. I AM NOT HARD ON THE VEHICLE AT ALL. THE FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED THEM FOR ALMOST $400 PARTS/LABOR. THE PART IS ONLY $55 AND THE REST IS LABOR. RIDICULOUS! OF COURSE THEY ARE NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE, WHICH IS A 6YR/75000. AM I GOING TO HAVE TO FORK OUT THIS MONEY EVERY YEAR, BECAUSE THESE THINGS BREAK UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS? I THINK THE FOR COMPANY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM REPLACED, BECAUSE APPARENTLY THEY ARE CHEAPLY MADE AND LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM... THE 1ST ONE WAS REPLACED ON 8/4/08 WITH 36735 MILES AND THE SECOND ONE WAS REPLACED ON 1/8/09 WITH 40560 MILES AND I THINK ONE IS BAD AGAIN, BECAUSE THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND IS FLASHING SERVICE BRAKES/4X4. APPARENTLY THESE THINGS ARE DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THE ABS SENSING RING ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT AXLES..ALOT OF GOOD THAT DID. *TR
HAVE HAD THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE AND THE DASH "BRAKE" INDICATOR LIGHT GO ON RANDOMLY WITHOUT BRAKING FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS (BEGAN IN MAY 2008) IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER TWICE (IN JUNE 2008) AND IS NOW DOING IT AGAIN. THE DEALER REPLACED AN ELECTRICAL HARNESS THIS FIRST TIME AND CLEANED CONTACTS ACCORDING TO A FORD SERVICE ALERT THE SECOND. I ALSO HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN THE FALL OF 2007. THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM MESSAGE" APPEARED AND THE DASH "BRAKE" INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON OVER A THREE WEEK PERIOD FOLLOWED BY THE 4X4 SYSTEM AND ABS SYSTEM MAKING NOISE, JERKING THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN SHUTTING DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING (NOVEMBER 2007). THIS WAS FIXED BY THE DEALER BUT NOW THE CAR'S INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE TURNING ON AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SEEM TO ABLE TO FIXED. I AM WORRIED THE BRAKE SYSTEM WILL FAIL AGAIN. *TR
NOTICED A RATTLING IN FRONT END, CREAKING NOISE WHEN TURNING TOWARDS THE RIGHT, AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEM TELLING ME IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY, I TOOK IT TO A FRONT-END SPECIALIST IN MY TOWN. THE PASSENGERS SWAY BAR LINK HAD TO BE REPLACED, NOW 3 MONTHS LATER, SAME NOISE DIFFERENT SIDE. TOOK IT TO THE SAME PLACE AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE DRIVERS SIDE SWAY BAR LINK. THE FRONT END PLACE COMMENTED THAT THEY FIX A LARGE NUMBER OF THESE ON ESCAPES, MORE THAN ANY OTHER CAR. CURRENTLY THE PARTS CAN ONLY BE BOUGHT FROM FORD, WHICH MEANS THEY WILL GO BAD AGAIN IN 2 1/2 YEARS! *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2005 ESCAPE NEW AND JUST RECENTLY (OCT 2008) I NOTICED ON TOP OF THE REAR LIFT GATE WHERE BOTH OF THE HINGES ARE THE PAINT IS PEALING OFF AND GETTING WORSE ALL THE TIME. IT STARTED OUT VERY SMALL RIGHT WHERE THE EDGE OF THE GATE IS ON TOP. BUT WITH TIME HAS STARTED TO PEAL OFF ON TOP OF THE LIFT GATE AS WELL. I HAVE SINCE STARTED LOOKING AT ALL THE 2004-2006 ESCAPES THAT I SEE PARKED AND EVERY SINGLE ONE, REGARDLESS OF COLOR, WITHOUT FAIL HAS THE PAINT PEALING AWAY IN THE SAME SPOT. I HAVE SPOKEN TO FORD MOTOR CO. AND THEY REFUSE TO HANDLE IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING LOUD, HORRIBLE NOISES FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IT SOUNDED AS IF THE ENGINE WOULD FALL APART. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED BECAUSE THE CONNECTION ROD SHATTERED IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALER WAS CONVINCED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT WELL MAINTAINED; THEREFORE, THEY DID NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THIS WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED BY HER HUSBAND AND REPLACED WITH A NEW ENGINE. NOTICED LEFT REAR TIRE ALMOST FLAT. CHECKED TIRE FOR PUNCTURES AND OBJECTS AND NONE FOUND. PUT SOAP AND WATER ON THE VALVE STEM AND FOUND IT LEAKING AT THE BASE OF THE VALVE STEM. REMOVED TIRE AND TOOK IT TO TIRE STORE FOR VALVE REPLACEMENT. THE TIRE IS A CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC P235/70R16 ABOUT 3 YEARS OLD (APPROX 21,000 MILES). *TR
I WAS INVOLVED IN A MINOR CAR ACCIDENT WHEN MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND CAUSED 2ND DEGREE BURNS TO BOTH OF MY TOP FOREARMS, I ALSO FRACTURED MY RIGHT WRIST THAT SEPARATED THE CARTILAGE IN MY WRIST AND REQUIRED SURGERY. I AM A HEALTHY, ACTIVE 42 YEAR OLD WOMAN NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY CORRECTLY AND MAY EVEN NEED TO BE RECALLED TO MAKE SURE IT WAS INSTALLED EFFICIENTLY. THE BURNS SUSTAINED TO MY ARMS ARE NOT CONSISTENT WITH TYPICAL BURNS FROM AIRBAGS THAT I HAVE RESEARCHED. THE BAG ITSELF DID NOT COME OUT STRAIGHT, NOR EVEN HIT MY CHEST, IT CAME OUT OF THE TOP OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I WANT TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO OTHERS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARD WHEN PARKED ON AN INCLINE AND WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ONE YEAR AGO AT 30,000 MILES, BUT HAS RECENTLY RECURRED AT 39,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY UNDERGONE REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO, MY WIFE CALLED ME AT WORK TO REPORT HER 2005 ESCAPE "MADE A FUNNY NOISE" WHEN SHE TRIED TO START IT. WHEN I GOT HOME THAT AFTERNOON, I WENT TO INVESTIGATE IT. WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN AND TURNED IT ON, IT EXPLODED. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD DISENTERGRATED AND SCHRAPNEL FROM IT SEVERED WIRING HARNESS, KNOCKED PARTS OFF ETC. HAVING 39K MILES ON IT I HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL TOP RATED MECHANIC. AFTER THE MECHANIC REPAIRED THE MECHANICAL DAMAGE, HE SENT IT TO BEACH FORD FOR A PCM ISSUE. THEY REPLACED THE PCM (UNDER FORD WARRANTY, ADMITTING THAT THE COMPUTER WAS ?FRIED? AND THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH OTHER ESCAPES) BUT ABSOLVES ANY KNOWLEDGE OR RESPONSIBILITY AS TO WHY THE EXPLOSION OCCURRED IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE A ?THIRD PARTY PERSON? REPAIRED THE CAR BEFORE BEACH FORD SAW IT. A ?MIKE? AT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO BASED ON CONVERSATIONS WITH BEACH FORD, SAID THAT REPAIRS BY A THIRD PARTY PRECLUDES FORD FROM ANY RESPONSIBILITY AS TO WHY THE CAR EXPLODED IN THE FIRST PLACE. MY MECHANIC HAS DONE INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND OTHER REPORTS OF PCM ISSUES WITH THE ESCAPES CAUSING PROBLEMS FROM FAILURES TO EXPLOSIONS. A TECH AT THE FORD DEALER SAID IT HAS TO DO WITH STRAY VOLTAGE BEING INDUCED INTO THE WIRING AND GOING BACK UP INTO THE PCM, BUT THEN FORD AND THE SERVICE DIRECTOR DENIED ANY KNOWLDEGE OF THIS. FORD SAID THE CAR IS REPAIRED (AT MY EXPENSE) AND WASHED THEIR HANDS OF THIS SITUATION LEAVING ME WITH A CAR THAT HAS ONLY 39,000 MILES ON IT AND EXPLODED IN MY DRIVEWAY CAUSING SEVER DAMAGE, AND NO ATTEMPT TO INVESTIGATE WHY IT HAPPENED. I HAVE ALL THE DAMAGED PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED AND TOLD FORD THAT. NO ONE WILL ADDRESS WHY IT EXPLODED IN THE FIRST PLACE. WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED AT 55 MPH VICE IN MY DRIVEWAY, OR MY WIFE WAS HOME AND I OPENED THE HOOD AND HAD HER START THE CAR SO I COULD LISTEN FOR THAT NOISE SHE SAID? PLEASE HELP ME OUT. *TR

HIGH SCHOOL,CAMILLUS,NY ,I WAS ON INTERSTATE 690 ,WHEN MY CAR DID WHAT THE DESCRIPTION SAID,CAR CAME TO COMPLETE HALT AT TRAFFIC LIGHT,ALL POWER WENT IN VEHICLE,LET CAR SIT FOR A MINUTE TO RESTART,IT DID AND WHEN HOME AFTER GAME. THAT MONDAY VEHICLE DID SAME THING FOR A SECOND TIME,THIS TIME,DIDN'T RESTART,CAR WAS TOWED TO NEARBY FIRESTONE STORE,GOT FIXED AND WAS TOLD ABOUT A RECALL. CALL DEALER-THEY DIDN'T NOTHING AFTER HAVING IT TWO DAY. CAR ACTED UP ON THURS. SAT I MADE APPT TO AAMCO TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIX IT,THEY DID ,FOUND OUT AFTER 1HR AND 30 MINUTES AT WORK THAT IT WAS FAULTY TRANSMISSION,COSTING ME 2600. FORD DIDN'T SEND ME ANY CARD ABOUT VEHICLE BECAUSE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM WAS BOUGHT OUT. *TR
THE FINISH ON MY ALUMINUM WHEELS IS PEELING OFF AND THERE IS CORROSION THAT HAS FORMED AROUND THE RIM AND CENTER OF ALL FOUR OF MY WHEELS. I CHECKED THE SPARE WHEEL AND THE FINISH IN THE CENTER OF THE WHEEL IS STARTING TO BUBBLE ALSO. THE VEHICLE IS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THESE ARE FACTORY WHEELS AND I HAVE ONLY 40,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND FORD WILL NOT COVER THIS ITEM EVEN THOUGH IT IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE EXFOLIATING ON THE WHEELS IS SO BAD THAT I AM ABLE TO REMOVE SMALL CHUNKS. *TR
DRIVING AT LOW SPEED WHEN POWER STEERING SHUT OFF. THIS HAS OCCURRED 1-2/MONTH SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE DEALER IN 2008. WHEN I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM IT WAS STILL OCCURRING THEY ALWAYS SAID THERE WAS NO CODE SO BASICALLY NO PROBLEM. POWER STEERING FAILURE HAPPENED RANDOMLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS; WHEN IT HAPPENED AT FREEWAY SPEED WAS THE WORST. FINALLY TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY FOUND A CODE INDICATING IT IS THE ELECTRIC ASSISTED POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. WHY ARE THE 2005-2007 FEHS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL? *TR
I BOUGHT THE CAR IN APRIL OF 2008 AND EVER SINCE THE SECOND WEEK OF HAVING THE CAR THE POWER STEERING WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT WOULD HAPPEN ON CITY STREETS AND ON THE FREEWAY. I INFORMED THE FORD DEALER (BOB WONDRIES IN ALHAMBRA, CA) NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING CONDITION AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. THIS WENT ON FOR 7 YEARS; I FILED THIS FORM WITH YOU BEFORE AND I ALSO CONTACTED FORD MOTOR CO. ABOUT THIS. ALL I EVER GOT AS A RESPONSE WAS MY POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE COMPLETELY FAILED AND I HAVE NO POWER STEERING.
EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM BOB WONDRIES FORD IN ALHAMBRA, CA IN 2008 STARTING THE SECOND WEEK I HAD IT, THE POWER STEERING WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREETS AND HIGHWAY. IT HAPPENED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I TOLD THEM THIS EVERY TIME I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE. THEY ALWAYS SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. NOW IT DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. I'VE REPORTED THIS TO FORD MO. CO. AND YOU BEFORE. 2008-2011 ESCAPES GOT RECALL AND REPLACEMENTS FOR THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. I WANT THE SAME CONSIDERATION FOR ME AND OTHER 2005-2006 OWNERS WHO HAVE POSTED THE SAME PROBLEM. WOULD IT HELP IF ONE OF US DIED BECAUSE OF THIS?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AND WOULD SPORADICALLY SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE DEALER MADE TWO ATTEMPTS TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BY REPLACING THE RACK AND PINION HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 203,481 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,500.
THE ACCELERATOR STICKS WHEN REVVING THE ENGINE WHILE LETTING OUT THE CLUTCH. AFTER EXERTING AN INCREASING AMOUNT OF PEDAL PRESSURE, IT SUDDENLY UNSTICKS, AND THE ENGINE OVERREVS. THIS RESULTS IN A JACK RABBIT START. THE FORD DEALER SAID THAT ONLY FIX IS TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY, WHICH IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A RECALL. *TR
SERVICE BRAKE SYS MESSAGE ON 2005 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID ALONG WITH BRAKE WARNING LIGHT. *TR
POWER STEERING GOES OUT ON MY '05 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. HAPPENED ONCE WHEN I HAD CAR ABOUT 3 YEARS AND FORD SAID A FLUKE. DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL '09 BUT NEVER WAS HAPPENING WHEN I DROVE IT IN AND FORD COULDN'T FIND PROBLEM. I WAS ABLE TO GET THERE WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING BUT THEY STILL COULDN'T SAY FOR SURE BUT SUGGESTED I PAY TO REPLACE STEERING WIRING HARNESS AND SENSOR. I HESITATED TO DO THIS AS SEVERAL PEOPLE INCLUDING ANOTHER FORD MGR SAID DIDN'T MAKE SENSE AND ANOTHER FORD MGR SAID DIDN'T KNOW FOR SURE THAT WOULD TAKE CARE OF PROBLEM. SOMETIMES IT IS FINE FOR MONTHS, OTHER TIMES HAPPENS EVEN WHEN I FIRST TURN THE CAR ON. SOMETIMES THE STEERING JUST FEELS "LOOSE"....NOT NORMAL. USUALLY THOUGH, I'M DRIVING AND THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A PULL LEFT AND THE STEERING GOES OUT. FORD MGR TOLD ME IT'S SAFE TO DRIVE BUT IT'S GETTING MORE NERVE WRACKING - SUDDEN HARD PULLS LEFT BUT POWER STEERING STAYS ON - FOR AWHILE. ONCE HAPPENED WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. DRIVING A STRAIGHT LINE ISN'T BAD BUT TIGHT TURNS ARE DIFFICULT AND U TURNS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE TO THE MOUNTAINS. *TR
2005 FORD ESCAPE NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRING HARNESS. CONSUMER NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL. DEALER TOLD THEM THERE WERE NO RECALLS. *KB
I STARTED UP MY CAR AND LET IT RUN FOR APPROX 10 MIN. PUT MY REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER ON FOR ABOUT 10 MIN WHILE DRIVING TO WORK. SITTING AT A LIGHT, MY REAR WINDOW EXPLODED. I WAS NOT MOVING, MY CAR WAS WARMED UP. NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED. POLICE REPORT PROCESSED. FORD FIXED IT FOR A HUGE AMT NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FLOW IN THE FUEL LINE WAS UNEVEN. FORD HAS BEEN ISSUING RECALLS ON VARIOUS VEHICLES BECAUSE THE FUEL RAIL HAS CARBON CLUMPS IN THE HOSE WALL THAT MAY LEAK IN THE WALL OVER TIME. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. SHE IS DISPLEASED AND REFUSES TO PAY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 42,750. MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE WAS MISSING BAD. FORD REPLACED CAP AND PLUG, THEN CALLED ME TO SAY THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM IT WAS "LACK OF MAINTENANCE" AND WANTS ME TO PAY 400.00 TO FIX IT. FIRST OF ALL, MY HUSBAND USED TO WORK FOR FORD DEALERSHIP AND HE TAKES CARE OF ALL MAINTENANCE FOR ME. WHAT GOOD IS A MANUFACTURER WARRANTY THEN? ALSO IT WILL BE A WEEK OR MORE BEFORE I RECEIVE MY VEHICLE BACK. YESTERDAY (2.11.08), THE SAME WINDOW GAVE WAY ON A SIDE STREET AT APROX 35 MPH WITH NO OTHER TRAFFIC. YESTERDAY MAKES THE THIRD WINDOW I HAVE REPLACED IN LESS THAN 12 MOS. THE FIRST WINDOW (REAR RIGHT PASSENGER) EXPLODED IN WHILE ENTERING A FREEWAY RAMP WITH NO TRAFFIC ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR. MOST PEOPLE GO A LIFE TIME WITH NEVER HAVING AN EXPLODING WINDOW WHILE I HAVE HAD 3 ! THE GLASS REPAIR SHOP I WAS REFERRED TO BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAS STATED THAT BY OBSERVING THE BROKEN WINDOW, THEY ARE CONFIDENT THAT AT NEITHER TIME WAS THE DEFROST MECHANISM TO BLAME. I AM HAVING TROUBLE ADDING GAS TO MY SUV, IT KEEP SHUTTING THE NOZEL OFF. I MUST VERY SLOWLEY ADD THE GAS OR IT WILL SHUT OFF. TODAY 1/29/08, I ADDED 10 GALLONS OF GAS AND IT TOOK ME ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO DO SO. I HAVE TAKEN THE SUV TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEY REPLACED THE FILL TUBE AND TOLD ME THAT IT SHOULD BE OK NOW, BUT THAT I SHOULD STILL ADD THE GAS AT A SLOW RATE BECAUSE THE NEW PUMPS AT THE STATIONS ARE MORE PRESSURE SENSITIVE AND WILL SHUT OFF FASTER. I AM STILL HAVING THE PROBLEM AND NEED A SOLUTION AS I LIKE THE SUV AND WOULD NOT LIKE TO GET RID OF IT JUST BECAUSE IT TAKES SO LONG TO PUT IN GAS. *CN
CRUISE CONTROL WOULD TAKE OVER WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT THE SWITCH BEING DEPRESSED. THE ENGINE WOULD ACCELERATE. AT TIMES THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD DROP OUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CRUISE CONTROL COULD BE ENGAGED BY MERELY SLIDING THE THUMB ACROSS THE SWITCH WITHOUT DEPRESSING IT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GALPIN FORD IN DEWEY, AZ FOR REPAIR. THE PROBLEM WAS EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED WITHOUT REPAIR. THE SERVICE REP SAID THEY HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE FOR A TEST DRIVE AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. WHEN I GOT HOME I READ THE INVOICE IN DETAIL AND FOUND A NOTATION FROM THE MECHANIC THAT STATED THE SWITCH NEEDED REPLACED. I VISITED THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE PARENT DEALERSHIP, GALPIN FORD OF PRESCOTT, AZ AND INDICATED MY DISPLEASURE WITH A DANGEROUS PROBLEM NOT BEING CORRECTED. HE STATED THE DEFECT HAD NOT BEEN RECALLED YET BUT PROMISED IF IT DID GET RECALLED IN THE FUTURE, THEY WOULD REIMBURSE THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED 1/15/08 AT A COST OF $69.34 PARTS AND 133.58 LABOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED SHE ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE WHEN SHE NOTICED THE GAS PEDAL WAS STICKING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT STARTED TO TAP THE GAS PEDAL AND MANAGED TO UNLODGED THE PEDAL. ALSO THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURS CONSTANTLY DURING THE WINTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE THROTTLE NEEDED TO BE SPRAYED WITH WD-40. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE GAS PEDAL STICKS WHEN ITS COLD OUT, FIRST I THOUGHT THERE WAS WATER FROZEN AFTER MY FEET WAS WET FROM THE SNOW. SECOND I THOUGHT THE HEAT FROM THE HEATER DRIED OUT THE MOVEMENT OF THE GAS PEDAL. SO I SPRAYED WD40 ON IT DIDN'T HELP, NEXT THOUGHT IT WAS THE CABLE OUT IN THE ENGINE, I SPRAYED THE CABLE AND LINKAGE DIDN'T HELP. FINALLY IT WARMED UP AND THE STICKING OF THE GAS PEDAL WENT AWAY (2008) NOW IN 2009 THE SAME THING AFTER THE CAR WARMS UP ITS OK, NOT SURE IF SOMETHING IS BINDING OR WHAT. *TR
I BOUGHT A USED 2005 ESCAPE WITH 40K MILES. IT HAS BEEN PAMPERED AND NOW HAD JUST OVER 50K ON IT. I WENT TO START IT ON A COLD MORNING AND IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER IT WARMED UP I TRIED AGAIN AND IT FIRED, BUT NOT RUNNING ON ALL CYLINDERS. IT TURNS OUT THE IGNITION COILS ARE PRONE TO FAILURE. THIS CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND I NEED TO REPLACE THREE OF THE SIX IGNITION COILS? THIS CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY SO I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE CAR KEPT STALLING AND HAD A TOP SPEED OF AROUND 30MPH ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT AGAIN. I AM DISGUSTED! *TR
THE DRIVER'S WINDOW OF MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED MAKES A HORRIBLE SQUEALING SOUND WHEN OPENING AND CLOSING. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ABOUT A YEAR. WHEN TAKEN IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, I HAVE NOTED THIS PROBLEM. I ALWAYS GET THE SAME REPORT "WEATHER STRIPS ARE DRY" AND WERE LUBED. THIS FIX DOES NOT ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE CAR WAS ONLY A LITTLE OVER A YEAR OLD WHEN THE PROBLEM BEGAN, I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE WEATHER STRIPS HAVE DRIED OUT. *TR
THE ISSUE I AM HAVING IS THE SAME AS DESCRIBED IN COMPLAINT #10318942. INTERMITTENTLY ON DRY PAVEMENT DURING NORMAL BRAKING, THE ABS WILL ENGAGE (WITH INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHING ON) AND YOU CAN FEEL THE TYPICAL ABS ON/OFF PULSING OF THE BRAKES IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT APPEARS THE CAR IS ALSO TAKING LONGER TO COME TO A FULL STOP WHEN THIS OCCURS. I HAVE REPORTED IT MULTIPLE TIMES AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. THIS HAPPENS TO ME REGULARLY (A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK).
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH IN THE SNOW, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WOULD NOT DEFROST AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BECAME INOPERABLE. A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. THE DEFROST SYSTEM WOULD NOT DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER FOR OVER A YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, HE REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS. STARTING APPROX. DECEMBER 20, 2007 THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT BEGAN TO "STICK". WHEN THE DRIVER TRIES TO UNBUCKLE THE SEATBELT IT WILL NOT UNBUCKLE AFTER THE FIRST, SECOND OR SOMETIMES THIRD ATTEMPT. THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL THREAT TO THE DRIVER IN THE EVENT THE DRIVER MUST UNBUCKLE QUICKLY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD PROVIDED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
THE ABS SENSOR RINGS ON MY FRONT BRAKES KEEP GETTING CRACKS IN THEM. THIS IS DISABLING THE ABS ON MY VEHICLE. I GET IT FIXED AND THEN A YEAR AND 2 MONTHS LATER IT CRACKS AGAIN. *TR

AFTER A COLD NIGHT WITH FREEZING RAIN, VEHICLE HAD A SMALL LAYER OF ICE ON REAR WINDOW WHICH WAS EASILY SCRAPPED OFF AFTER HAVING REAR DEFROSTER ON. DEFROSTER WAS ON APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES. AFTER PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND GOING APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED. THE WHOLE WINDOW SHATTERED INTO TINY PIECES. THE WINDOW WAS REPLACED BUT NOT BY FORD WHO CLAIMED THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE. *TR

IN 2006 I EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE OF MY CAR TO OPERATE ONE MORNING. ONE YEAR LATER, NOVEMBER 3, 2007 THE SAME PROBLEM BEGAN TO HAPPEN AGAIN. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE CABLE AND THE FOOT PEDAL VACUUM WERE NO LONGER OPERATING (5L8Z-2C053-BA AND YL8Z-19048-AA) AS WAS THE CASE THE PREVIOUS YEAR AND THAT HE HAD TO WAIT FOR A NEW PART IN ORDER TO REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS. I ASKED WHY THIS HAD HAPPENED AGAIN, AND WHAT I WAS TOLD HORRIFIED ME. THE MANUFACTURER MOST LIKELY HAD NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM OF THE PAST AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE PARTS. I ASKED WHY THERE WAS NOT A MORE LIFE SAFETY SOLUTION TO THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THIS DID NOT HAPPEN OFTEN IT WAS NOT DEEMED A REAL ISSUE. THE RATIONALE IS APPALLING. HOW AM I EXPECTED TO BE SAFE WITH THIS VEHICLE WHEN THE CONDITION IS NOT RESOLVED IT IS JUST PROLONGED, WITH FAILURE LOOMING OVER ME? HOW DO I DRIVE MY CHILD AND THE OTHER MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN A VEHICLE THAT CAN STOP OPERATING AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT?? MY COMPLAINT IS IN REGARD TO LIFE SAFETY AND VALUE OF RECIPROCITY. A FEW YEARS AGO, I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY GAS PEDAL STICKING. IT SEEMED LIKE A BRICK WAS UNDERNEATH THE PEDAL AND NO MATTER HOW HARD I PUSHED IT WOULD NOT UNSTICK. THE PROBLEM LASTED ABOUT A MONTH AND THEN WENT AWAY. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, THE PEDAL WOULD STICK SLIGHTLY FOR JUST A SECOND, BUT NOT ANYTHING THAT REALLY CONCERNED ME. LAST WEEK (3/7/2012), THE PEDAL STARTED STICKING BAD. IT SEEMS TO BE WITHIN THE FIRST 5 MINUTES OF STARTING THE CAR AND CAN STICK FOR 10-15 SECONDS, WHICH IS VERY SCARY WHEN DRIVING. I HAD TO PULL OVER A COUPLE OF TIMES, JUST BECAUSE I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. NOW, I HAVE STARTED DRIVING AROUND THE BLOCK FOR A FEW MINUTES UNTIL I DON'T FEEL THE PEDAL STICK ANYMORE BEFORE I CONTINUE WITH MY DRIVE. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING ALMOST DAILY FOR A WEEK NOW. REPAIRS AS FOLLOWS: 08-22-07 REPLACED SHAFT AND JOINT ASSEMBLY. 03-03-08 REPLACED TORQUE. FOUND FLUID LEAK FROM AROUND THE FRONT PUMP, RESEALED IT. REPLACED BROKEN OSS SENSOR. TEST DROVE STATED TRANS OPERATIONAL NORMAL. 6-27-08 REPLACED TRANS TONE RING THAT WAS OUT OF ROUND. 8-11-08, REPLACED VALVE COVER SET DUE TO TICKING SOUND. WORK DONE AT MIDAS AUTO SERVICE, NOT FORD DEALER. THIS WAS DONE DUE TO A TECHNICAL BULLETIN THEY RECEIVED THAT WAS ORIGINALLY SENT OUT 2-20-06. WHICH I NEVER PERSONALLY RECEIVED. I DIDN'T KNOW THE PROBLEM EXISTED UNTIL THEY TOLD ME. ON 8-22-07 REPLACED SHAFT AND JOINT ASSEMBLY. ROAD TEST CONFIRMED REPAIR. 9-9-09 TSB REMOVED P-SIDE VALVE COVER , LOOSEN CAM SHAFT BOLTS ,RETORQUE TO SPEC. FOUND A LOOSE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TORQUE TO SPEC. AS OF 4-14-09 THE HARD SHIFT PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. *TR
