THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST HAS FAILED CREATING DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS OCCURRED. FORD HAS RECALLED A NUMBER OF FORD ESCAPES FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT NOT ALL MODELS THAT ARE AFFECTED, INCLUDING MY VEHICLE.
POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING MAKING TURNING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOP AND THEY ADVISED THAT THERE'S A RECALL UNCERTAIN VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR AND HIS MODEL THEY RUN MY VIN BUT MY VEHICLE DIDN'T CAME OUT BUT I WAS ADVISED THAT IT'S THE SAME CODES AND ISSUES AS THE ONE IN THE RECALLS. I AM ATTACHING A PICTURE OF THE COATS THEY GAVE ME REGARDING THE POWER STEERING FAILURE
POWER STEERING FAILURE AT 108K MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM DISABLED WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.
MY 17YR OLD SON WAS DRIVING HIS CAR HOME FROM SCHOOL WHEN HE COULD NOT BARELY TURN OFF HIGHWAY. HE LOST ALL POWER STEERING. HIS CAR WAS NOT PART OF ORIGINAL RECALL. I CALLED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME TO HOLD ONTO RECEIPTS IN CASE HIS CAR IS INCLUDED IN NEXT RECALL. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNINGS WHEN IT FAILED. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT!
WHEN CAR IS STARTED AND STILL IN PARK THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES FROM LEFT TO RIGHT (LIKE ITS HAVING TREMORS). IF WHEEL IS BEING HELD IT DOES NOT SHAKE. THIS ALSO OCCURS WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP
POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE THE SHORT DISTANCE HOME. WAS LEAVING A GROCERY STORE ONTO THE STREET
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY CLINTON FORD IN CLINTON, INDIANA PER A RECALL FOR THE STEERING MODULE AND SENSOR RECALIBRATION BACK IN 2014. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT THE FAILURE, BUT NOT ALL THE TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 198,000.
I CAN'T STEER MY VEHICLE. IT IS VERY HARD TO TURN. WAS FINE ONE DAY AND THEN THE NEXT TIME WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT I COULDN'T RUN THE WHEEL. I WAS SEEING THAT MANY 2008 FORD ESCAPES HAVE HAD A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING. I SEARCHED THE VIN AND MY CAR CAME UP WITH NOTHING. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW SOME CARS HAVE A RECALL AND SOME DON'T.
"TAKATA RECALL" THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND I WAS ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I EXPERIENCE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ACCELERATING CORRECTLY AND THE WRENCH ICON LIGHT CAME ON SIGNIFYING THAT IT IS A POWERTRAIN FAULT.
RECALL # 14S05 > MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE AND HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN WHEEL/DRIVE CAR. IT OCCURRED WHEN SHE STOPPED TO FILL CAR WITH GAS AND CONTINUED FOR THE SHORT TRIP TO A SERVICE STATION. THE LOCAL FIRESTONE SERVICE SHOP FOUND CODE 2278 WHICH WAS FOR STEERING TORQUE SENSOR AND TOLD HER THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVE-ABLE FOR SAFETY REASONS. IT WAS TOWED TO WINNER FORD IN CHERRY HILL, NJ. I WAS ALERTED TO THE RECALL AND RESEARCHED IT, DISCOVERING RECALL # 14S05, ISSUED IN 2014, WHICH APPEARED TO AFFECT OUR VEHICLE. DEALER AND FORD SAY THEY WILL NOT HONOR THIS RECALL BECAUSE THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN WHEN NOTICE FIRST RECEIVED IN 2014 AND RE-PROGRAMMING WAS DONE TO FIX PROBLEM. FORD'S RESPONSE WAS THAT ONCE THE RECALL WORK HAS BEEN DONE, THEY ARE NO LONGER OBLIGATED. FORD REP ALSO COMMENTED THAT THE AGE/MILEAGE OF THE CAR DID NOT WARRANT FURTHER ACTION. MY POSITION IS THAT THEY PUT A BAND-AID ON A PROBLEM AND NOW THE REAL PROBLEM IS SURFACING - THE TORQUE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFIED IN THE RECALL NOTICE WHEN CODE 2278 IS FOUND. AGE OF CAR DOES NOT MATTER - IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE FORD CREATED. WHEN I ASKED FOR A COPY OF THE VOICE TAPE OR TRANSCRIPT OF THE CALL, I WAS GIVEN FORD CASE NUMBER IS: CAS13915472
THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING, TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD MY DAUGHTER SINCE THE UPDATE WAS DONE IT WOULD COST $800 TO FIX PART. THIS PART SHOULD'VE BEEN COVERED BY THE RECALL, NOW THEY WANT $2000 TO FIX BECAUSE ANOTHER PART IS BAD. THEY SENT MY DAUGHTER A LETTER ABOUT THE STEERING UJOINT JUST TO GET IT IN THE SHOP, THAT'S WHEN THEY DID THEIR UPDATE TO SATISFY YOUR RECALL, NOW SHE LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING, NOW WON'T HONOR YOUR RECALL. WOULD YOU PUT YOUR CHILD BEHIND THIS STEERING SYSTEM OR LET THEM CHARGE YOUR CHILD FOR THE REPAIRS?
RECALL EVIDENTLY WAS PREVIOUSLY DONE IN 2014 BY PRIOR OWNER, STEERING LOST POWER ASSIST WHILE IN MOTION ON A STREET, THE LOSS OF POWER ASSIST WHILE TRAVELLING ON A SNOWCOVERED ROAD CAUSED MOMENTARY LOSS OF CONTROL RESULTING IN A NEAR CRASH. THE REPRESENTATIVE AT FORD DENIED LIABILITY BECAUSE THE REPAIR HAD BEEN DONE PREVIOUSLY, AND DENIED RESPONSIBILITY FOR ADDITIONAL REPAIRS UNDER THE EXISTING RECALL
AS I WAS STARTING TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE POWER STEERING JUST QUIT. IT HAS BEEN FINE UP UNTIL THAT POINT. LUCKILY I WAS STILL IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GREEN FORD (2211 W PIONEER PKWY, PEORIA, IL 61615, (309) 693-2525) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR IN THE STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.

GIBBONS BLVD, DICKSON CITY, PA 18519) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
MY FORD ESCAPE 2008 MODEL AUTO TRANSMISSION WITH MILEAGE OF 72000 STARTED GIVING TROUBLE TODAY AND SCARY TOO. AFTER TURNING ON THE CAR & ONCE STARTS MOVING, I FELT LIKE SOMETHING WRONG WITH SHIFTING GEARS FROM FIRST TO SECOND (VEHICLE MOVES SMOOTHLY FOR FEW METERS AND AFTER THAT I CAN HEAR THE ACCELERATOR SOUND, AND I SEE THE WRENCH SIGN POPS UP ON THE DASH BOARD AND VEHICLE WON'T MOVE FOR A FEW SECONDS, SO I HAD TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL UP AND DOWN TO MOVE THE VEHICLE, FELT LIKE VEHICLE GOING TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. I DROVE MY ESCAPE HOME AND STOPPED THE CAR AND AGAIN I TURNED ON THAT TIME WRENCH SIGN WAS GONE AND STARTED MOVING THE VEHICLE AND THE SAME THING REPEATED - WRENCH SIGN & THE PROBLEM WITH SHIFTING GEARS. I AM GOING TO CALL THE DEALER TOMORROW, BECAUSE THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLOSED ALREADY.
THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE JUST STOP WORKING AND I ALMOST CRASH. THERE IS NO STEERING AT ALL. I DON'T HAVE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY 08 ESCAPE. TOOK TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THAT RECALL WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE SINCE ITS OVER THE 46,000 MILES LIMIT. I INFORMED THEM THAT THERE IS NO EXPIRATION OR MILEAGE ON RECALLS. THEY THEN SAID THAT IT NEEDS A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THE COST WILL BE ABOUT $1000. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IT TO WORK AND NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE WHEN STOPPED. THEN DRIVING HOME THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT.
HAD A HARD VIBRATION IN STEERING COLUMN WITH EXCESSIVE PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL. THANKFULLY, THE STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED-UP IN A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED.
ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 9TH, 2018 WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE ON AN EXPRESS TOLLWAY NEAR MY HOME, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ABRUPTLY AND MADE MY VEHICLE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. IT IS NOTHING SHORT OF A MIRACLE THAT I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY SAFELY, SO AS TO PULL OVER AND REGAIN SOME SORT OF COMPOSURE. MUSTERING ALL THE STRENGTH I HAD, I WAS ABLE TO GET MY ESCAPE HOME, BOTH MYSELF AND ESCAPE UNSCATHED. I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ONLY TO FIND THERE WERE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF OTHER FORD OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. RECALL H14S05 WAS COMPLETED, AT A FORD DEALERSHIP ON MY ESCAPE IN JULY OF 2016, TECHNICIANS NOTES BEING THAT HE REPROGRAMMED A PSCM & ICM. AFTER CALLING FORD MOTOR COMPANY I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR SINCE IT HAD BEEN MORE THAN 1 YEAR SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON MY ESCAPE. I WAS UNAWARE THAT RECALLS CAME WITH AN EXPIRATION DATE??? AT THE TIME THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED I HAD NO PRIOR STEERING ISSUES ON MY ESCAPE. IT IS NOW ALMOST 2 YEARS LATER AND THE POWER STEERING ON MY ESCAPE HAS COMPLETELY GONE OUT. I AM NOW TOLD THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET EVEN THOUGH FORD HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS FOR QUITE SOME TIME, WHICH IS EVIDENT BY THEM ISSUING RECALL H 14S05 IN THE FIRST PLACE. HELP PLEASE...

FOR THE PAST 4-5 DAYS, THE POWER STEERING WAS GOING OUT COMPLETELY WHENEVER I TRIED TO MANEUVER IN PARKING SPACES. I WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON TO REGAIN POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE. TONIGHT AS I WAS DRIVING ON A VERY BUSY ROAD THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN, LUCKILY IN FRONT OF A SERVICE STATION WHERE I WAS ABLE TO PULL IN SLOWLY AND WAS TOLD I HAVE AN ELECTRIC STEERING SYSTEM. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY MODEL YEAR FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT WHEN I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS TO HAVE IT FIXED, THEY ALL TOLD ME MY VIN WASN'T COVERED IN THE RECALL AND THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
POWER STEERING FAILURE. WAS ON CITY STREET
POWER STEERING WENT OUT.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS AND CAR IS UNABLE TO BE STEERED. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, WITH VERY UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS IS NOT A NUISANCE, IT IS TOTALLY UNSAFE AS CAR CONTROL IS LOST WHEN THIS HAPPENS. RECALLS APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN INITIATED SURROUNDING THIS PROBLEM, I NEED TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS THE CASE. FORD MUST STAND BEHIND FIXING THIS UNSAFE CONDITION.
GAS PEDAL STICKS, I HAVE TO PRSS IT TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER FOR ACCELERATION, IT WON'T LET ME EXCELERATE OVER 5 MILES AND HOUR AND WILL COAST, IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEN SEEMS TO RETURN TO NORMAL, HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES THIS WINTER.
TAKA TAKE RECALL. 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID EAPS TORQUE SENSOR FAILED DURING DRIVING AND STEERING, LEADING TO NO ELECTRONIC ASSIST IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS WAS THE STEERING LOST COMMUNICATION. AFTER INSTALLING AN UPDATE IN THE SYSTEM, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER RESULTING IN A TOTAL FAILURE IN THE TORQUE SENSOR AT LOW SPEED DURING STEERING.
SUDDEN TEMPORARY FAILURE OF ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING, THE DEALER SAID THE TORQUE SENSOR IS FAILING. THEY DID THE REPROGRAM IN AUGUST 2017, NOW FORD WILL NOT FIX BECAUSE THE RECALL HAS BEEN DONE AND THEIR WERE NO CODES IN PCM, GUESS WE ACTED TOO SOON ON A RECALL, IF THE SENSOR WAS BAD IN AUGUST THEY WOULD'VE COVERED IT. THEY WANT $600 TO REPLACE A PART THAT THEY KNOW IS FAILING AND CAUSING SAFETY CONCERNS.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK ON A CITY STREET. WHEN CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND ON IT CLEARED OUT AND WAS OK BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE MAKING A TURN. HAD CAR REPAIRED AT LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A BAD TORQUE SENSOR. SAID THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL (WHICH HAD RECALLED SOME ESCAPES WITH THE SAME ISSUE) OF THESE BAD SENSORS SINCE CAR WAS NOT MANUFACTURED IN SPECIFIC PLANT. DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS SINCE IT IS A DEFECTIVE PART WITH NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LOCATION OF MANUFACTURE. DEALER GAVE ME NO SATISFACTION SO I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND STILL WAITING TO HEAR BACK. BY RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY FORD DOESN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE THESE DEFECTIVE TORQUE SENSORS AND RECALL THE ALL VEHICLES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BE FATALLY INJURED? VERY DISTRESSING AS I OFTEN HAVE MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (BLUE SPRING FORD, 3200 S. OUTER RD, BLUE SPRINGS, MO 64015) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED IN JULY OF 2014 PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) IN WHICH THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. THE VEHICLE LATER EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 158,000.
THE POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR WENT OUT AFTER A FORD DEALERSHIP RESET THE SOFTWARE AS REQUIRED BUT NOW WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL AND WANTS TO CHARGE ALMOST $2,000 FOR THE REPAIR.
ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST FAILURE -- SUDDEN AND COMPLETE FAILURE. ON HIGHWAY...OUTSIDE TEMP WAS 5 F ABOVE ZERO. TWO CHILDREN IN CAR (ONE YEAR OLD AND 3 YEAR OLD). WITHOUT WARNING (AND DURING A 45 DEGREE CURVE) THE STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT AND AT FIRST THE STEERING ASSIST ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE STEERING AND THAT MADE MATTERS WORSE -- HOLDING THE WHEEL STEADY AND CONTINUING THRU THE TURN WAS A CHALLENGE (AND, I AM 'STOUT' GUY!). CAR NOW IN THE SHOP . $2,000 REPAIR AND MAY NOT BE COMPLETE. WILL FIND OUT FINAL NUMBER TODAY.
THE VEHICLE GAS PEDAL BECOMES STIFF IN COLD WEATHER CONDITION AND DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO ACCELERATE FROM STOP. ONE TIME THE GAS PEDAL CABLE ALSO CAME OUT AND PEDAL WOULD NOT COME BACK UP.
WHEN I WAS TRYING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT FROM A RECENT ERRAND I REALIZED MY WHEEL WAS NOT ALLOWING ME TO STEER. I WAS ALREADY HALF WAY OUT AND COULD NOT DO ANYTHING BUT TO PULL AS HARD AS I COULD TO GET IT TO TURN AS THIS WAS NOT SAFE TO LEAVE AS IS. I AM THANKFUL THAT I WAS A STREET AWAY FROM HOME AND DID NOT HAVE TO MAKE ANY MAJOR TURNS AS I HAD TO MAKE SURE TO GET MYSELF AND MY OCCUPANT TO SAFETY. I HAD NO TURNING ABILITY AND WAS USING ALL MY POWER TO TURN THE WHEEL AS BEST AS I COULD JUST TO GET US BACK HOME. IF WE HAD LOST OUR STEERING IN ANY OTHER SITUATION SUCH AS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR CITY STREET I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO US.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED ZEIGLER FORD PLAINWELL AT (269) 685-5801 (1260 M-89 SUITE 200, PLAINWELL, MI 49080) AND COULD NOT BE ASSISTED DUE TO COMPUTER ISSUES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL THE CONTACT BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING. AFTERWARDS WHEN I WOULD IDLE, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SHAKY MAKING A LOUD NOISE. NOW IT SHAKES EVEN WHEN I'M DRIVING AND WILL GET JERKY OR STOP WORKING COMPLETELY. THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN I'M STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT OR WHEN I'M PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY! FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS HAPPENS TO THOUSANDS OF OTHER FORD OWNERS. THE POWER STEERING SIMPLY GIVES OUT AND THEY WANT YOU TO PAY $1,500 TO HAVE THE WHOLE COLUMN REPLACED!
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO WITH 125,000 MILES ON IT & THE STEERING WAS GREAT! WE HAVE DRIVEN IT FOR ABOUT 1,000 MILES. WHEN I GOT IN AND STARTED THE VEHICLE THE STEERING IS SO TIGHT I CAN NOT TURN THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION! I HAD TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE IN THE STORE PARKING LOT & HAVE MY HUSBAND GO THERE AND DRIVE IT HOME. WE CHECKED WITH DEALER AND THEY INFORMED US THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON OUR VEHICLE. SO WE WENT ONLINE & FOUND THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO THEM, WITH FORD DOING NOTHING TO HELP.
HE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE THAT HAS ARISEN WITH A GREAT DEAL OF OWNERS OF FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. I HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE HCU SYSTEM REPLACED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AS IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, NOR CONSIDERED BY THE COMPANY TO BE AN ISSUE DESERVING OF A RECALL, I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE ENTIRE THING, WHICH TOTALED $4,863.00 (AND IT TOOK FIVE DAYS TO GET THE WORK COMPLETED). I ALSO HAD TO PAY TO RENT A CAR FOR THE SEVERAL DAYS IT TOOK TO GET THE PART AND PERFORM THE WORK, WHICH WAS ANOTHER $200.00. DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF THIS REPAIR AND THE FREQUENCY WITH WHICH IT IS AFFECTING CONSUMERS, I BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE SHOULD BECOME A RECALL AND PEOPLE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIRS THEY HAVE HAD TO MAKE.
DEC. 26, 2017 ACCELERATOR PEDAL CABLE SNAPPED AND FELL TO FLOOR. HAD TO GET TOW AND NOW IN SHOP. THROTTLE BODY AND CABLE NEED REPLACEMENT. $700! THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED. IT HAS UNDER 150,000 MILES ON IT. SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS. THE PEDAL HAS BEEN STICKING A LOT AND NOW THIS. VEHICLE WAS IN CHICAGO BUSY INTERSECTION. COULDN'T EVEN PRESS PEDAL DOWN TO MOVE THE CAR AND THEN SOMETHING SNAPPED. AND PEDAL FELL TO FLOOR.

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY DRIVEN TO MATTHEWS CURRIE FORD (LOCATED AT 130 N TAMIAMI TRAIL, NOKOMIS, FL 34275, (800) 248-2378) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,588.

HUNTINGTON FORD (2890 S ROCHESTER RD, ROCHESTER HILLS, MI) WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BECAUSE THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE A $100 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REMEDIED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AT THE SAME DEALER THE PREVIOUS YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE DEALER PERFORMED THE REMEDY AS AUTHORIZED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 104,000.
POWER STEERING SUDDENLY QUIT, WHEN FORTUNATELY IN THE DRIVEWAY NO WARNING OR ERROR CODES THAT WERE SUPPOSED BE THERE AFTER RECALL. NEEDS REPLACEMENT STEERING COLUM PARTS THAT WERE DEFECTIVE AND NOT REPLACED. WHEN THE ASSISTS QUITS IT CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE CAR IS VERY HARD TO STEER AND CAN CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL.
MY FORD ESCAPE GAVE ME A WARNING OF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND THEN MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. AFTER DOING RESEARCH FORD COVERED 2008 ESCAPE MODELS AS A RECALL, BUT MY VIN NUMBER SAID MINE WAS MADE AT A DIFFERENT FACTORY SO IT IS NOT COVERED.
APPROX. A YEAR AGO THE BRAKES STARTED FAILING. SUDDENLY YOU HAD TO PUMP THEM EXTRA HARD TO STOP. WARNING LIGHT APPEARED THAT TIRES NEED INFLATING. THEY DID NOT. THEN AN ABS WARNING LIGHT APPEARED. SUDDENLY THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING AGAIN, NO EXTRA PUMPING NEEDED. THEN AT HIGH SPEEDS THE WARNING LIGHT TURNED ON AND STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND YOU COULDN'T GO ABOUT 60 MPH. AHHH! WHEN YOU HIT BRAKES THEY DIDN'T RESPOND OR A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE HAPPENED. LOOKED IT UP, COMMON IN THIS YEAR'S HYBRID THAT ABS BRAKES FAIL. ONLY HAD 150K ON IT. TOOK TO LOCAL FORD DEALER, THEY WANTED $7400 TO FIX. WHAT? "PROPRIETARY ABS BRAKES MUST BE REPLACED." THEY WOULDN'T TURN WARNING MESSAGE OFF COMPUTER OR DO ANYTHING LESS. WOULDN'T CHECK HOSES, CIRCUITS, OR PADS. JUST A FLAT "$7400" WITH NO EXPLANATION OTHER THAN ABS SYSTEM. WE FOUND OUT THROUGH COMPLAINT SITES ONLINE THAT OTHERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. IT'S EXTREMELY HARROWING TO BE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS AND HAVE THE CAR SUDDENLY START SHAKING AND THE BRAKES NOT WORK!!
TAKATA RECALL POWER STEERING STOPED WORKING VERY SUDDENLY. WHILE I WAS DOING DELIVERIES FOR MY WORK I PARKED THE CAR TURNED IT OFF AND WHEN I GOT BACK AFTER ABOUT 10 MIN. POWER STEERING DIDN'T WORK AND HASN'T WORKED EVER SINCE. THE ONLY THING THAT I NOTICED THAT DAY IS THAT EVERY TIME I TURNED THERE WAS A VERY SLIGHT SHAKE ON THE STEESRING WHEEL. I THOUGHT THAT WAS UNUSUAL BUT NEVER THOUGHT THAT 2 HOURS LATER THE POWER STEERING WOULD COMPLETELY FAIL. THANK GOD THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. I CHECKED FOR RECALLS AND NOTICED THAT THE FORD ESCAPE 08 HAS A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING, I IMAGINE THERE WAS ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO MAKE THE RECALL HAPPEN. HOWEVER, THERE ARE NOT AS MANY HYBRID MODELS AND I'M SURE THAT'S THE ONLY REASON WHY THERE'S NO RECALL FOR THIS SPECIFIC MODEL YET. BUT AS FAR AS I KNOW BOTH MODELS THE ESCAPE AND THE ESCAPE HYBRID ARE IDENTICAL IN MANY WAYS INCLUDING SOME PARTS IF NOT ALL PARTS OF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM.
WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING LOT OR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL TURNS A DISTANCE OF 2 INCHES BACK AND FORTH ON ITS OWN. WHEN I TURNED MY VEHICLE ON RECENTLY, AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD SAYING "ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" AND THE WHEEL WAS VERY HARD TO TURN. AFTER TURNING IT A CERTAIN DISTANCE IT FREED UP AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY NEXT DESTINATION WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS BESIDES THE WHEEL TRYING TO TURN ITSELF.

I WAS DRIVING HOME THIS MORNING AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME UP. THIS FAULT HAS NEVER BEEN ON BEFORE. I READ A COUPLE OF ONLINE SITES AND IT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OF 14S05 BUT IT DOESNT SHOW FOR MY VEHICLE. MINE IS THE SAME YEAR AFFECTED BUT DOES NOT APPLY FOR SOME REASON.
