* The braking system is failing without warning arbitrarily, resulting in pedal doing to floor and not stopping the vehicle and requiring swerving if possible to avoid collision, often needing to drive off the road surface to do so safely. This is a very common and largely reported problem with this vehicle with no assistance from the manufacturer, and a singular resolve that far exceeds the vehicle value; there is not an option to replace failing part/s with used as manufacturer prevented that. * The safety of the family member and others on the roadway are at substantial risk with a vehicle on the roadways that has a failed braking system, especially on highways/byways at increased speeds with no means to stop without warning. * The problem has been inspected and confirmed by the Ford dealership service department, where it's evidently a well-known issue. Many are subjected to leaving their Escape Hybrid with the dealer as they are too dangerous to risk driving, but the excessive cost levied to (temporarily) resolve the problem too much and outside the value of the vehicle. * Illuminated warning lights include: Regen brakes disabled, ABS, Check brake system.
Car will run fine then, all of a sudden, goes into no drive mode. Will not go forward or reverse without a lot of gas pedal pushing ( like if the e brake is on then pop and lunges forward, but there is no brakes being applied, just gas.) Now car is sitting because mechanic pulled code P0A7C and said can't drive until fixed.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the power steering failed to operate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that she used her physical force to steer the vehicle while driving at various speeds. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that her VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (STEERING). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
Regen Brakes Disabled light came on dash board after starting. ABS light and Check Braking System also. Took to two local mechanics. Checked sensors brake fluid etc. Advised to take to dealership. These lights are not ALWAYS on. However lately they have been. When illuminated the brakes are very weak and if going over 40 mph very difficult to stop. Nearly impossible to drive on the interstate. Ford dealership said it’s a faulty Hydraulic Control Unit codes C1478 and C1479. They advised there is currently only 1 available in the US. It’s used and their cost is $2600. They advised rear brakes and pads being replaced as well and bleeding the brakes after. My truck has 112k miles on it. Dealership estimated repair cost was just under $4000. I rarely have to drive on the interstate but this particular day was very concerning as I could hardly stop and had to swerve to avoid crashing into the truck in front of me. I was lucky that there wasn’t a vehicle beside me. It’s taken awhile to be diagnosed because I was told mechanics need the lights to be on to know exactly what was happening. This is a major safety issue and several owners have had to deal with it. Ford needs to step up and do the right thing with a recall. I love my truck but unfortunately I think it’ll be the last Ford I’ll own.
Hello, While I was driving on the highway suddenly my steering became very stiff and it required much more effort to to turn the steering wheel. This was a very scary and dangerous situation in which could have led to a potential accident. There were no warning lights prior to this issue. I did some initial investigation and found out that there was a big recall for Ford Escapes for this same issue. (Issue with the torque sensor within the steering column, which may result in the loss of electric power steering assist). I called Ford and they informed me that my car had already been recalled and that they had already fixed it and that I would have to fix it at my own cost. It obviously wasn't fixed 100% and now I am being forced to pay the cost even though it is obviously the same issue that the vehicle had originally been recalled for.

Hard to steer the vehicle.
The loss of power steering that was reported as being fixed with Ford Recall # 14S05 is still happening and Ford is not covering the cost of fixing it again.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake was applied however, was spongy and slow to respond. The ABS warning light was illuminated. The Regan brakes disable failure message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to a local dealer. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 165,931.
ABS light on, vehicle stalling, dragging while driving 40mph or over. Brake petal non functional. *c1313, c1480, c1481 Brake hoses restricted not allowing brake pressure in caliber *HCU damage *Sway bar links damage, excessive noise and play
MY ABS brake warning and my regular brake light come on and go off occasionally with a warning that says "Regen Brake System Disabled". When this happens, it VERY difficult to brake, the brakes go almost to the floor before they engage and there is some sort of air leak because I can hear a leak in an air system of some kind. And when that started happening, the A/C stopped working and I heard a loud pitched whine coming from the vehicle. On the days there is no brake warning lights, the brakes still are not great and sometimes will start to stop the vehicle, then there is a kind of hiccup that happens where the pedal just goes to the floor WHILE you are stopping, and not just as you begin braking. There are SO many complaints on the web about people experiencing the EXACT same problems, I don't see why this has not been deemed a Recall yet. VERY DANGEROUS!!!!
There is a major safety issue with the braking system. The brakes were getting soft (having to push all the way to the floor to get it to stop) A brake warning light then came on, i had a mechanic check it and he replaced all 4 brakes and rotors on it, a small improvement...then the ABS warning light came on.....it now brakes fine from speed until about 10 mph and then the brake pedal goes to the floor. Upon having the warning light scanned, it appears that the HCU (hydraulic control unit) needs replaced for a tune of $5000 plus. Upon more research there are many complaints on-line about this problem, unfortunately those of us that drive 13 year old cars typically cant afford such a repair bill for an obviously bad design flaw and must continue driving these dangerous vehicles because we have no choice. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed
THE CAR SHOW A MESSAGE SAYING "STOP SAFELY NOW" AND STARTS STALLING AND THEN SUDDENLY TURN OFF BY ITSELF. IT CAN HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING IN FREEWAY OR THE STREET
BRAKES ARE PEDAL IS ADVANCING TOWARDS THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE UNTIL ALMOST AT THE FLOOR. MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED AND PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. NO CODES EVIDENT, NOR SIGNS OF DEFECT. SPENT ENTIRE DAY AT THE MECHANIC TO NO AVAIL. MUST USE PUMPING BRAKE S CONTINUALLY AT REDUCED SPEEDS FROM GREATER LENGTHS TO STOP AT APPROPRIATE TIME AND LOCATION.
I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND I GOT A WARNING BEEP SAW THE DISPLAY SAYING POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. MY STEERING WHEEL WAS VIBRATING AND A LOUD MOTOR TYPE NOISE WAS SOUNDING. I WOULD DRIVE AND I COULD FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY WHILE DRIVING. THE NEXT DAY I STARTED MY CAR AND DISPLAY SHOWED RIGHT AWAY THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT. AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING FROM THEN ON. OTHER 2008S HAD RECALLS FOR POWER STEERING BUT MY VIN WAS NOT ON THE LIST FOR RECALLS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING PLATE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 157,000.

THE CONTACT CALLED JORDAN FORD (609 E JEFFERSON BLVD, MISHAWAKA, IN 46545) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE HYBRID BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 133,540.
ELECTRIC STEERING SHAKES WITH SLIGHT PRESSURE TURNING EITHER WAY. THIS HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET, AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN.
RED BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. ALL ACCESSORIES WENT OFF AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START AGAIN. I JUST REPLACED MY 12V BATTERY THE NIGHT BEFORE. THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN 2 MILES, AT MOST. THE BRAND NEW BATTERY HAD BEEN IN THE CAR LESS THAN 24 HOURS. I HAD NO STEERING CAPABILITY AS MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I COULDN'T SHIFT. THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED MY FOOT BACK LIKE IT WAS "PUMPING" MY FOOT. PUT ANOTHER FULLY CHARGED BATTERY INTO MY CAR AND STARTED RIGHT UP. DROVE HOME AND AS I WAS PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. BOTH BATTERIES WERE DRAINED COMPLETELY DRY OF ANY VOLTAGE. ABS LIGHT ON ALL THE TIME. CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM/REGEN BRAKE DISABLED ON DRIVE INFO.
08 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID-ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND BREAKS FAILED. WHILE DRIVING, STOPSAFE CAME ON. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON APPROX. 5 MINUTES LATER. ABS STAYS ON ALONG WITH CHECK BREAKS SYSTEM AND REGEN BREAKS DISABLED. CAR HAS SAT FOR 3 YEARS. WHEN TURNED ON NOW, REGULAR BATTERY DRAINS AND ABS LIGHT STAYS ON.
RECEIVED A POWER STEETING ASSIST FAULT ON MY VEHICLE WHEN TURNING IT ON IN A PARKING LOT. I WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE UNLESS I GAVE IT BRUT FORCE. WHEN CALLING FORD, THEY SAID THAT RECALL 14S05 WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE IN 2014 WHICH WAS SUPPOSE TO FIX THIS ISSUE WITH SOME SOFTWARE UPDATE. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS THAT THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE DID NOTHING TO FIX THE ISSUE AND MANY TIMES, CAUSED STEERING FAILURE AFTER THE SOFTWARE UPDATE. FORD IS LEAVING MANY PEOPLE OUT IN THE COLD MAKING THEM PAY FOR THEIR DEFECT AND FOUND A WAY TO "PRETEND" TO FIX THE ISSUE WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN TO BEGIN WITH, NOT A SOFTWARE FIX. THIS FAILURE SHOULD BE FIXED BY FORD, ESPECIALLY IF THE SOFTWARE FIX WAS NOT THE CORRECT SOLUTION.
THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED VIBRATING AND EVENTUALLY THE STEERING STARTED SHAKING AND IT LOST ALL POWER TO STEER. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR ESCAPE. IT APPEARS TO BE THE PROBLEM WITH THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM.
THE STEERING WHEEL OF THE CAR IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.
The rear passenger door will not catch to release unlock or lock latch. It's like the door is forced closed will not open.
THE STEERING WHEEL TENDS TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IT DOES NOT MATTER THE SPEED BEING DRIVEN. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK IT IS TO ATTEMPT TO PULL OVER TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND START IT AGAIN. BUT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS CAN VERY WELL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
ELECTRONIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING FAILED IN THE EXACT SAME WAY THAT IT FAILED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL THAT ONLY INCLUDED A LIMITED NUMBER OF FORD ESCAPES, OF WHICH MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED. NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, IT JUST STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY AND CAUSED A MINOR ACCIDENT. IN DOING RESEARCH I FOUND AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON MY MODEL CAR PRODUCED IN THE SAME PLANT AS RECALL BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED SO DEALER IS REFUSING TO FIX ISSUE. IN DOING MORE RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON AND VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT MOST EVERYONE WITH THIS MODEL CAR HAS HAD AT SOME POINT OR ANOTHER. THE NTSB NEEDS TO STEP IN AND REQUIRE FORD TO RECALL ALL OF THE 2008 FORD ESCAPES FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN.
AT TIMES BEFORE ACCELERATION, THE ACCELERATOR GETS STUCK. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO GO UNLESS THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I AM IN TRAFFIC AND IT HAS HAPPENED. THE STICKING HAPPENS EITHER AT A STOP SIGN, TRAFFIC LIGHT, OR SIMPLY JUST LEAVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. SOMETIMES IT MAY HAPPEN IF I AM COMING OUT OF A TURN. ITS SCARY WHEN I AM ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, STREET, OR ON/OFF RAMP AND THERE IS OTHER TRAFFIC SPEEDING BEHIND ME. I CAN NOT IDENTIFY THE PART THAT IS CAUSING THIS. IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A FAMILY MEMBER IN JULY. MOST RECENT WAS ON 12/29/2020.
MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM WENT OUT COMPLETELY LEAVING THE VEHICLE IN MANUAL MODE. THIS WAS NOT 1 OF THE ORIGINAL FORD RECALLS BUT YET WAS MADE IN THE SAME PLANT AS ALL THE OTHER RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATE PEDAL, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE OVER 5 MPH. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
THE VIN OF MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE IS NOT HAVING ANY RECALLS, YET SOME OF THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE HAS A RECALL FOR THE STEERING ASSIST MODULAR, WHICH MY FORD ESCAPE HAS A FAULTY MODULAR AS MY VIN SAY NO RECALLS, $1000.00 PART AND LABOR IS A VERY HIGH PRICE NEED HELP TO FIX THE STEERING KNOWING WE ARE GOING THROUGH FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES WITH THE PANDEMIC IT'S VERY HARD TO STEER AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL IN A PARKING SPOT FOR NOW

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING SOUND WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A FAULTY STEERING BOX. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. *BF

THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS NEEDED TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER TO BE SERVICED OR DIAGNOSED FOR THE FAILURE. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
IT STARTED EARLY THANKSGIVINGS(11/26/2020) DRIVE AS I WAS COMING TO MY 4TH/5TH STOP OF THE MORNING, I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND FELT MY BRAKE PEDAL SINK WITH SLIGHT TO NO PRESSURE, NO RESPONSE. I PANICKED AND I REMEMBER PUMPING THE BRAKE RAPIDLY TO BUILD PRESSURE, BUT THE BRAKE DID NOT RESPOND AS EXPECTED, I DID FEEL I SLIGHT JERK AND HEARD A GROWLING SOUND COMING FROM THE BOTTOM ENGINE AREA. I MUST OF GONE OVER A POTHOLE THAT MADE MY TRUCK FEEL LIKE I JUMPED THE CURVE, I WAS GOING ABOUT 35-45MPH. AFTER A FEW RAPID BRAKE PEDAL PUMPS MY VEHICLE DID COME TO A STOP ON TIME BEFORE RUNNING THE LIGHT, LUCKILY I WAS ALONE IN THE STREET THAT EARLY MORNING. AS OF TODAY THE BRAKE PEDAL STILL FEEL MUSHY/SPONGY LACK OF PRESSURE AND SCARY UNSAFE.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the pedal went straight to the floor before stopping. The contact veered to the side of the road and waited for a few minutes before restarting the vehicle before driving back to the residence. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate the failure. The mechanic suspected that the ABS brake booster and brake master cylinder had caused of the failure. The failure recurred a few months later. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,550. Consumer had the master cylinder replaced (2/25/22) on the advice of the mechanic who originally suspected it might be a master cylinder issue.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND UPON STARTING THE NEXT MORNING THE POWER STEERING FAILURE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PROGRESSIVE AUTO SALES (69 JEWETT AVE, SWANTON, VT 05488) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
IN NOVEMBER 2020 WHILE DRIVING MY CAR, BY BRAKES SUDDENLY WENT SOFT. TO STOP MY VEHICLE, I HAD TO PRESS MY BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE VEHICLE STOPPED. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE MY VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST SHOP WHERE I HAD MY BRAKE FLUID FLUSHED AND MY BRAKE PADS REPLACED. THIS TEMPORARILY RESOLVED THE ISSUE. EXACTLY ONE WEEK LATER, MY BRAKES WENT SOFT AGAIN. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THE ISSUE WAS WITH MY MASTER CYLINDER. REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER TEMPORARILY RESOLVED THE ISSUE. A FEW WEEKS LATER, MY BRAKES WENT SOFT AGAIN. I'VE HAD MY MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED FOUR TIMES SINCE NOVEMBER 2020. IT IS NOW APRIL 2021 AND MY BRAKES ARE STILL GOING SOFT. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN WITH MY MECHANIC FOR THE PAST THREE WEEKS AS HE'S BEEN TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. HE BELIEVES THE ISSUE IS WITH THE MODULE OF THE ABSYSTEM, BUT NO CODES REGISTER WHEN HE PLUGS THE VEHICLE TO THE COMPUTER. SINCE THIS ISSUE DOES NOT REGISTER A COMPUTER CODE, MY MECHANIC HAS HAD ISSUES WITH ACCURATELY IDENTIFYING THE CAUSE OF THE CONSTANT SOFT BRAKING I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING FOR THE PAST FIVE MONTHS. I' WENT ONLINE AND GOOGLED THIS ISSUE AND I'VE COME ACROSS FORUMS WHERE HUNDREDS OF OTHER FORD ESCAPE (2008 AND AFTER) OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLES. ALL OF THE FORD ESCAPE OWNERS HAVE HAD THEIR MASTER CYLINDERS REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO PERMANENT RESOLUTION. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY COMPONENT ON EVERY VEHICLE IS THE BRAKING SYSTEM. SEATBELTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE WORN BY LAW, BUT WHAT GOOD IS A SEATBELT IF THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO BRAKE AND MECHANICS ARE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE BECAUSE A COMPUTER CODE DOES NOT REGISTER.

THE DRIVER COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE DRIVER DROVE THE VEHICLE TP HER RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER RICHMOND FORD WEST (10751 W BROAD ST, GLEN ALLEN, VA 23060, (804) 273-9700) WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PRIOR TO PURCHASE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.

THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BEEPING SOUND DETECTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDRIVEABLE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. POWER STEERING JUST WENT OUT, WAS WORKING JUST FINE THEN JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN QUIT WORKING. DRIVING WENT TO TURN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WAS JUST EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN ALMOST WRECKED. PRIOR TO THIS I WAS DRIVING AND TURNED WENT TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T GO I HAD TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL A TOW TRUCK, THE SHOP SAID THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. BUT NO ISSUES BEFORE THIS, JUST WENT OUT ALL OF A SUDDEN LIKE THE POWER STEERING NOW.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 193,700.
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APP. 50 MPH FROM INTERSTATE ONTO OFF-RAMP. WHILE TURNING, I NOTICED THE WHEEL BECOME VERY HEAVY. I PUT MORE FORCE INTO THE WHEEL, BUT IT WAS IF IT WAS LOCKED. THIS DID NOT FEEL LIKE A MECHANICAL LOCK, SUCH AS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF - THAT GENERALLY HAS QUITE A BIT OF PLAY. I STOOD ON THE KICK PANEL AND PULLED THE STEERING WHEEL WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO DEFORM THE STEERING WHEEL. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS PULLING BACK JUST AS HARD. A SCREECHING/HISSING NOISE THAT SOUNDED SIMILAR TO A POWER STEERING WHINE WAS OBSERVED. A FEW FEET SHORT OF GOING HEAD-ON INTO THE GUARDRAIL, THE WHEEL FINALLY RELEASED, AND THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT. THE STEERING WAS THEN ACTING FINE. ONE MILE LATER, THE STEERING BEGAN TO DIE COMPLETELY. 0.5 MILES LATER, IT BEGAN TO FIGHT AGAIN. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN RIGHT WITH THE DEAD POWER STEERING (BEING ABLE TO BE CONTROLLED WITHOUT MUCH EFFORT). THE WHEEL SUDDENLY FROZE UP AGAIN, THIS TIME THOUGH, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON WHILE IN NEUTRAL. CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS REGAINED, AND THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM WAS DEAD AFTER THE FLARE-UP. THE VEHICLE TRAVELED ANOTHER 2 MILES COMPLETELY DEAD, BUT NOT LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, AND I DON'T FEEL IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE. I CONTACTED FORD OF MURFREESBORO ON 10/26/2020, WHO WAS UNWILLING TO DIAGNOSE THE SAFETY ISSUE WITHOUT ME FIRST PROMISING TO PAY $135 BEFORE TAX. THIS IS NOT A DESIRED FAIL-SAFE OPERATION, AND I BELIEVE IT MAY POSE AN ISSUE WITH SIMILAR YEARS OF THE ESCAPE. I DON'T EXPECT IT TO BE FIXED FOR FREE, BUT FORD NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THE ESCAPE'S ELECTRIC POWER STEERING TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS A FAILURE SPECIFIC TO THIS VEHICLE.
ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND SAYS REGEN BRAKES DISABLED. HAD IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD HCU IS BAD. FROM EVERYTHING I'VE READ AND BEEN TOLD FORD SHOULD'VE ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE
MY WIFE WAS ON THE FREEWAY GOING 60 AND SHE TOOK AN EXIT AND IMMEDIATELY COULDN'T STEER. THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON BUT SHE COULD STILL DRIVE ANY SPEED IT DIDN'T ENGAGE LIMP MODE .WE CAN STILL DRIVE JUST NOT STEER. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS YR FOR THIS TORQUE SENSOR, BUT ITS NOT SHOWING UP FOR OUR VIN #.
WE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING CAME ON AND LOST ALL POWER STEERING TO THE VEHICLE.
DRIVING FOR THE 1ST COUPLE OF MILES WAS FINE. PROBLEM HAPPENED AFTER STOPPING THE CAR 1ST TIME AT FRIENDS HOUSE THEN 2ND TIME AFTER GAS STATION STOP. AFTER CAR WAS RE~ENTERED ONTO THE ROAD IT WOULD NOT GO OVER 15 MPH AND FELT LIKE THE BRAKES WERE ON. THIS WAS AFTER THE 2ND TRIP TO THE MECHANIC ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM AND STARTED RESEARCHING . AFTER TALKING TO FRIENDS AT PARTS STORE HE WAS TOLD THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ONLY HAD VEHICLE FOR 5 MONTHS SO I AM HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING ANY WAY TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS. IT IS POSSIBLE PREVIOUS OWNER WAS ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT BUT HAS MOVED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE ORIGINAL PURCHASE. CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THIS, OR WILL FORD CONTACT ME SINCE TITLE IS NOW IN MY NAME. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
WHILE MY WIFE WAS BEGINNING TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY,T HE STEERING LOCKED UP, AND SHE PULLED IT INTO THE GARAGE AND STOPPED AND WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE, BECAUSE YOU CANNOT STEER THE VEHICLE AT ALL.
THE ELECTRIC ASSISTED POWER STEERING IS LOCKING UP CAUSING A SEVERELY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITION. I BELIEVE AFTER HAVING DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A PROMINENT ISSUE AND THIS VEHICLE NEED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE FORD / NHTSA RECALL. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND CONDITIONS ON CITY STREETS.
THERE IS A RECALL, CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V284000, FOR THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON FORD ESCAPES MANUFACTURED IN THE KANSAS PLANT, HOWEVER FOR SOME REASON MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I HAVE HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL COMPLAINT.THE STEERING LOCKS UP MAKING RIGHT TURNS AT LOW SPEED AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I SENT IN A COMPLAINT PREVIOUSLY AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM ASAP. THANK YOU !
