WHEN THE TEMPERATURES DROP TO BELOW 25 DEGREES - THE ACCELERATOR / GAS PEDAL WILL OFTEN "FREEZE" AND NOT ALLOW ACCELERATION AND/OR WILL STAY DEPRESSED EVEN WITH APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE (CAR STILL STOPS) AND IDLES VERY HIGH WHEN IN NEUTRAL. WHEN STARTING FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT TIMES THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. *TR
MY GAS PEDAL ON MY 2008 ESCAPE WAS STICKING IN COLD WEATHER. IT KEPT GETTING WORSE. I HAD TOO REALLY PUSH HARD ON IT TO FREE IT UP. IF IN GEAR IT ACCELERATED VERY FAST OR IN NEUTRAL IT REVVED ENGINE VERY FAST. I CONSIDERED IT UNSAFE SO I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR. I HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY AT MY COST . ARE THEIR ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS NATURE. FORD DEALER KEPT PART. I UNDER STAND FORD IS REPLACING A LOT OF THESE. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION. *TR
2008 FORD ESCAPE - : DROVE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS FOR 10 MONTHS. ALL OF A SUDDEN VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PARK. HAD EXPERIENCED NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS WHATSOEVER PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS PURCHASED. TRANSMISSION REPAIRED UNDER DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY, SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THE INSIDE HAD BLOWN APART. WARRANTY DID NOT REPLACE BUT DID REPAIR. TRANS. CONDENSER AND COOLER ASSEMBLY REPLACED, NOT UNDER WARRANTY, (MISSED BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY BY 2,000MLS). THIS PART 8L8Z19712J IS THE NEW PART REPLACING THE COOLER. 2008 ESCAPE NEEDING MAJOR TRANSMISSION REPAIR, ONLY 16,000 MILES WITH LIGHT CITY DRIVING. *TR
GAS PEDAL GETS STUCK AND WILL NOT GO. HAPPENS EVERY MORNING, THE GAS PEDAL GETS LOCKED AND HAS TO BE PUSHED WITH EXTREME FORCE IN ORDER FOR THE CAR TO GO. THIS STARTED IN DECEMBER AND HAPPENS EVERY DAY. *TR
STARTING IN THE FALL OF 2009 WHEN THE WEATHER GOT COLDER, THE THROTTLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND HARDER TO DEPRESS, REQUIRING A GREATER EFFORT TO PRESS DOWN THE PEDAL TO UN-STICK AND ONLY THEN WOULD THE THROTTLE PEDAL DEPRESS BEYOND THE IDLE POSITION. THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO LURCH FORWARD CREATING A SUDDEN, DANGEROUS CONDITION. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN PERSISTENT AND CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. *TR
I NOTICED THAT ON COLD MORNINGS THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS UNTIL A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF FORCE WOULD BE EXERTED ON THE PEDAL. SOMETIMES YOU WOULD HAVE TO STOMP ON THE GAS TO GET IT FREE. SOMETIMES A QUICK PRESS-RELEASE-PRESS AGAIN WOULD FREE THE GAS PEDAL. AS THE ENGINED WARMED THE PROBLEM WOULD DECREASE. ON OCCASIONS I WOULD STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND ROLL HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BEFORE I COULD GET THE PEDAL FREE. DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG ALTHOUGH I AM AWARE OF 1 OTHER FORD ESCAPE AND 2 MAZDA TRIBUTES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2008 FORD ESCAPE - KNOWN ISSUE TSB # 08-5-7 RESULTING IN TRANSMISSION COOLER FAILURE AT 46,000 MILES. LEAKS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TRANSMISSION FLUID RESULTING IN A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. IN ADDITION IF NOT DETECTED IN-TIME, TRANSMISSION FAILURE WILL RESULT DUE TO LACK OF FLUID. FORD DID NOT NOTIFY CUSTOMERS OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE, AND REFUSES TO COVER UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. FORD SHOULD BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE PROPER REPAIR OF THIS KNOWN DEFECT AND COMPENSATE THOSE WHO HAVE HAD TO MAKE THIS REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING FLAMES ERUPTED FROM THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE FIRE INSPECTOR CONCLUDED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 10,000.
RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 FORD ESCAPE WITH 42000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT 70MPH I HEARD A LOUD SNAP, AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE EXPRESSWAY AND TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THE ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD FAILED, WITH THE CABLE ITSELF SNAPPING AT A POINT APPROX. 1/8 INCH FROM THE END AT THE PEDAL. *TR

THE AC/CONDENSER THAT ALSO COOLS THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS LEAKING. THROUGH RESEARCH THERE ARE MANY OTHER CARS DOING THIS AS WELL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED WHEN THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF TRANSMISSION FLUID UNDER VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND THE SENSOR CAUSED THE LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE COMPLAINT WOULD BE FORWARDED TO THE ENGINEERING GROUP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47990 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 55000. UPDATED 4/5/10 *CN UPDATED 05/17/10.*JB
11/09/09 7:20 A.M. I PROCEEDED TO GO OUT TO MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE XLT TO START IT WHEN I DID I HEARD A STRANGE NOISE ABOVE ME , I THOUGHT IT WAS BIRDS OR SOMETHING, I PROCEEDED TO SLOWLY OPEN THE COVER ON MY SUNROOF ABOUT 1 INCH AND NOTICED IT LOOKED SHATTERED. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE IT LOOKED LIKE IT EXPLODED. THE GLASS WAS LIKE A VOLCANO ERUPTED. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE. I CALLED RUB FORD IN GARDNER IL THEY SAID IT POSSIBLE COULD OF GOT HIT BY A ROCK, I STATED THE ROAD WAS CLOSED ON EACH END DUE TO ROAD WORK ON THE SPILLWAY AND NO TRAFFIC WAS GOING BY AT THE TIME DUE TO THE ROAD WAS BLOCKED OFF. I WENT TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER IN EL PASO IL HELLER AND THEY SAID IT COULD POSSIBLE A ROCK, OR FROZEN ICE. BUT THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS IN THE 50'S AND I FOUND NO ROCK. AND I DO HAVE A RATHER LONG CONCRETE DRIVEWAY FROM THE ROAD. I ASKED FOR COPIES OF THE PAPERWORK THE DEALERSHIP HAD FOR FORD BUT THEY REFUSED TO GIVE IT TO ME SAYING IT WAS PRIVATE. IRONICALLY THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $660.00 TO REPLACE THE WINDOW WHEN I HAVE A 3 YR 30,000 BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY IF THEY GET IT FROM FORD IT WOULD TAKE 2 WKS BUT THEY COULD IT FROM ANOTHER SOURCE QUICKER FOR AN ADDITIONAL $25 AND GET IT IN 1 DAY. SO IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE THEY KNEW IT WAS A FAULTY GLASS. THEY DID NOTHING TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY. WE HAVE DONE A INTERNET SEARCH AND IRONICALLY THERE ARE A FEW PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THEIR SUNROOFS SHATTER BUT TO NO AVAIL FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX THE MATTER. I WAS JUST LUCKY I WASN'T DRIVING AT THE TIME. LIKE THE OTHER CONSUMERS ON THE FORUM PAGES. *TR
MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE HAS 38,000 MILES ON IT. THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36,000. I NOTICED IT RUNNING STRANGELY AND UPON CLOSER INVESTIGATION, NOTICED A FLUID LEAKING FROM THE FRONT. THE DEALER SAID IT IS TRANSMISSION FLUID. I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION COOLER/AC CONDENSER AT A COST OF AROUND $750. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND THAT IT IS EXTREMELY COMMON WITH 2008 ESCAPES. ONE PERSON COMPLAINING SAID THAT HIS DEALERSHIP HAS AROUND 10 OF THESE A WEEK TO FIX. IF IT IS SO COMMON, SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL? TRANSMISSION FAILURES CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS-I'M VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS AND HOPE SOMEONE WILL CHECK INTO THIS PROBLEM AND MAKE FORD FIX THEM! *TR
LEAKING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM A WELD ON THE TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLING UNIT, CAR HAS 41000 MILES . FORD TELLS ME IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE 5 YR/60,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY . APPROXIMATE COST IS 700.00 ACCORDING TO DEALER. IF THIS PART CONTINUES TO LEAK,TRANSMISSION WILL OVER HEAT AND SEIZE UP. FORD ISSUED A TSB # 08-16-12 ON 08/18/08 TO ITS DEALERSHIPS ABOUT THIS DEFECT , WHILE MY CAR WAS UNDER FULL WARRANTY. WHY WASN'T THERE A RECALL? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD REMAIN STUCK AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FAILURE RECURRED OFTEN AND MOST FREQUENTLY DURING COLDER WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE A REPAIR SHOP, HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
TRANSMISSION COOLER LEAKING ON 2008 6CYL FORD ESCAPE CAUSING TRANSMISSION TO ACT ERRATICALLY VIBRATES AND LURCH FORWARD DUE TO LOSS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. ALSO A FIRE HAZARD AS UNDERCARRIAGE AND RADIATOR HAVE HEAVY DEPOSITS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. CAR HAS ONLY 41,000 MILES AND MAJORITY OF MILEAGE HAS BEEN ON INTERSTATE. CURRENTLY CAR IS IN REPAIR SHOP AWAITING REPLACEMENT PARTS. FROM COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR FORD ESCAPES AND IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY FORD. SOME OF THE COMPLAINTS ADVISED OF NEAR ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL ALL 2008 FORD ESCAPES AND REIMBURSE ALL OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD TO ABSORB THE REPAIR COSTS DUE TO THE MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR
MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE HAS TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FROM THE COOLER. I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE AFTER A REGULAR OIL CHANGE AND AM NOT SURE HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN GOING ON BUT HAVE LOST NEARLY 2 QUARTS OF FLUID. THE FORD DEALERSHIP INDICATED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES AND FORD HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN ON HOW TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. WHICH BASICALLY INVOLVES REPLACING THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. *TR
THIS MORNING DRIVING TO WORK, AGAIN....MY GAS PEDAL STUCK...WAS GOING 50 TO 1 MPH IN A SECOND. I HAVE HAD MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE BACK TO THE DEALER THREE DIFFERENT TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN 2009 AND THEY STATED...THEY COULD NOT "REPLICATE" THE ISSUE. I HAVE JUST LEARNED ON 8/12/14 THERE IS A RECALL ON THE THROTTLE AND I HOPE THEY HONOR THE RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY SCARY SITUATION OVER THE YEARS, WHERE MY LIFE WAS PUT IN DANGER AND ALL I HAVE BEEN TOLD IS THAT THEY CANNOT "REPLICATE" THE ISSUE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN EACH TIME SOON AFTER IT HAPPENED. MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE, (NOT HYBRID), IS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID AT 40K MILES. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY REGULARLY SEE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE A LEASE AND MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36K MILES. FORD SAYS THEY WILL NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY. CALLED FORD CORPORATE IN DEARBORN MICH. THEY TOO AGREE THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. THEY SAID A TSB, (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN), HAS BEEN ISSUED, BUT NO RECALL YET. ADVISED ME TO "SAVE MY RECEIPT". THIS WAS MY FIRST FORD PURCHASE AND DEFINITELY MY LAST. *TR
THROUGHOUT THE TIME I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE THE TRANSMISSION HAS ACTED STRANGELY. SOMETIMES IT SHIFTS VIOLENTLY AND JERKS THE ENTIRE VEHICLE FORWARD. OTHER TIMES IT SEEMS THAT IT SIMPLY WON'T SHIFT INTO GEAR WHEN FIRST STARTED. LAST MARCH I WAS WAITING FOR A TRAIN TO PASS SO I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK WHILE I WAITED. TWO OR THREE SECONDS AFTER I PUT IT IN PARK, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE JUMPED FORWARD A COUPLE FEET. IT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME SINCE THE TRAIN WAS MOVING AT 60+ MPH AND WAS ONLY MAYBE TEN FEET IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN THE TRAIN PASSED I PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AND IT DIDN'T ENGAGE. I PUT IT BACK IN PARK AND MOVED THE SHIFTER THROUGH THE GEARS. AFTER THIS IT WORKED AGAIN, BUT I WAS WORRIED. I NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE RADIATOR AREA THIS MORNING. I NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE ANYWAY SO I TOOK IT IN TODAY AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION / AC COOLER THAT IS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED FORD ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T GUARANTEE WARRANTY SUPPORT, BUT THAT I SHOULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A FORD DEALER FOR THE REPAIRS. BASED ON WHAT I'VE READ, THE WARRANTY IS NOT GOING TO COVER IT SINCE I HAVE 51,000 MILES ON IT. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT BIG O TIRES GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE FOR $512 FOR THE REPAIR WORK, WHICH IS MUCH LESS THAN WHAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN PAYING. BUT IN THE MEAN TIME I HAVE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD DUE TO TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING ON COMPONENTS BELOW THE ENGINE. I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK THAT THESE EVENTS ARE SOMEHOW RELATED. ESPECIALLY WHEN FACTORING IN ALL OF THE PRIOR COMPLAINTS THAT I'VE FOUND EASILY WITH SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCHES. UNFORTUNATELY, IT APPEARS THAT IT WILL TAKE SOMEONE BEING HIT BY A TRAIN FOR ANYTHING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. FOR NOW I AM GOING TO WAIT UNTIL I TAKE IT IN FOR MY APPOINTMENT AT THE FORD DEALER. CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS THAT MAKE A VEHICLE SAFE TO TRANSPORT THEIR FAMILIES IN THEIR EVERY DAY LIVES. *TR

CONTACT STATED HE HAD HIS VEHICLE SERVICED AT THE DEALER AND THEY SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE TIRES BUT THEY NEVER DID. HE NOTICED HIS TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW CHECKED THE TIRES HE NOTICED ALL FOUR OF HIS VALVED STEM WERE CRACKED. CONTACT WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A TSB BUT NOT A RECALL ON THE VALVE STEM. CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHO IS THE VALVE STEM MANUFACTURE OR MODEL NUMBER. HE HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES INCLUDING VALVE STEM TO THE COST OF $588. CONTACT STATED HE WILL CONTACT THE FORD MANUFACTURE IN REGARDS TO THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 43,000.
THE BATTERY DRAINS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS OFF. IT TAKES ABOUT 2 DAYS FOR THE BATTERY TO BE COMPLETELY DEAD. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANICS COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHERE THE DRAIN WAS COMING FROM SO THEY FLEW IN AN ENGINEER FROM THE FORD FACTORY. HE HAD THEM REMOVE EACH FUSE & PUT THEM BACK IN 3 AT A TIME. THEN WAIT 2 DAYS TO SEE IF THERE WAS A DRAIN ON THAT ELECTRICAL LINE. AFTER OVER 3 MONTHS OF MY CAR IN THE SHOP, THEY REPLACED THE SMART JUNCTION BOX THINKING THAT WOULD SOLVE IT. IT DIDN'T. THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP I WAS DEALING WITH BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT THERE'S NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. I TOLD HER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW 2 YRS AGO BUT SHE DIDN'T CARE AT ALL. I POSTED MY PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET & HAD 2 OTHER PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY EMAIL ME WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. FORD IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT. I'VE BEEN A LOYAL FORD CUSTOMER FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS. I'M ALSO IN THE MILITARY & NEED MY CAR FOR MY DUTIES. I'VE TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. AFTER ASKING TWO SEPARATE FORD DEALERS AND DOING A LOT OF WEB RESEARCH, I HAVE COME TO FIND THAT THIS ISSUE IS WIDELY PREVALENT WITH THIS MODEL AND IS A RESULT OF A DESIGN FLAW. I ASKED ABOUT THE REPLACEMENT PART AND IF IT WOULD SUFFER THE SAME FATE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART, ENGINEERED AND MANUFACTURED BY FORD HAS BEEN DESIGNED DIFFERENTLY TO ACCOMMODATE THE ORIGINAL FLAW. THIS TO ME REPRESENTS A SITUATION WHERE FORD KNEW OF THIS ISSUE AND FAILED TO INFORM CUSTOMERS OR ISSUE A RECALL. AS A RESULT I AM OUT ALMOST $800 FOR THE REPAIR.
