ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH. SAME SAFETY RECALL WITH OTHER VEHICLES WITH THIS MAKE AND THIS MODEL AND YEAR NUMBER.
POWER STEERING FAILURE DUE TO BAD SENOR
EPSA HAS FAILED. DROVE TO WORK AND RAN ERRANDS AFTER WORK WITH NO PROBLEMS. WENT TO DRIVE SISTER TO WORK AND COULD BARELY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. DID NOT KNOW CAR DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR OR NEED FLUID. CAR IS DRIVABLE BUT VERY HARD TO TURN. DID NOT KNOW OF ANY RECALL ON THIS PART UNTIL I LOOKED UP ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS AND FAILS TO INFORM THEIR CUSTOMERS. NOW LOOKING AT EXPENSE I REALLY CANNOT AFFORD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LINDSAY FORD OF WHEATON (11250 VEIRS MILL ROAD, WHEATON, MD 20902) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO CALL NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,063.
THE FRONT WHEEL HUB STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS AROUND 10 THREE 2018. THEN ON 12 20 2018 THE HOOD CAME UNDONE AND SMASHED MY WINDSHIELD. EVER SINCE I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE SINCE 2015 IT HAD POWER ASSIST PROBLEMS IN THE STEERING.
MY LIGHTS ON DASH WILL ALL RANDOMLY FLASH WHILE MY SPEEDOMETER AND RMP WILL STOP WORKING. MY CAR ALSO SEEMS TO NOT SHIFT WELL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. MY STEERING FEELS EXTREMELY LOOSE AND UNSAFE. I DON'T DARE TO DRIVE OVER 30MPH AND HAVE NOT HAD ANYONE BE ABLE TO TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG. MY STEERING HAS ALSO LOCKED A FEW TIMES, USUALLY WHEN I'M IN REVERSE. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO MAKE IT WORK AGAIN. I FEAR FOR MY SON AND FAMILY EVERY TIME I HAVE TO DRIVE TO WORK AND SCHOOL.
THE FORD REPAIR SERVICE CENTER HAS INFORMED ME THE MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLANT MEC PUMP ON MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID HAS FAILED. THE MEC WAS PART OF A RECALL ISSUED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014 FOR 2005-2008 FORD ESCPAES. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN # IS 14V526000. HOWEVER, MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT LISTED ON THE RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT TELL MY WHY MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY VEHICLE ADDED TO THE RECALL AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT DOING SO. THANK YOU.
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS WHEN THE BRAKES WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AND CAME BACK UP AFTER I PUMPED THEM. THEY CONTINUED DOING THIS EVERY TIME I STOPPED UNTIL I GOT HOME. I HAVE HAD A MECHANIC CHECK OUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM EACH TIME AND HE CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. HIS ONLY SUGGESTIONS IS THAT "MAYBE" THE ABS MODULE IS TRYING TO GO OUT AND IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, PULL OVER, TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON AND SEE IF THAT FIXES IT FOR THE TIME BEING. THE ONLY COMMON ELEMENT I CAN THINK OF IS THAT ONE TIME, I HAD DRIVEN OVER A VERY ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD, ONE TIME I HAD JUST HIT A POTHOLE, AND ONE TIME I WAS MAKING A TURN AS I HIT A ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD. THE MECHANIC THOUGHT THIS WAS MAKING THE ABS SYSTEM THINK IT NEEDED TO ENGAGE BUT OFFERED NO SUGGESTIONS OF HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE OTHER THAN WHAT I MENTIONED ABOVE.
THE FRONT PASSENGER BRAKE CALIPER KEEPS SEIZING. I REPLACED IT IN JULY ALONG WITH THE ROTOR AND PADS AND NOW ITS STARTED SEIZING YET AGAIN. THE STEERING SHAFT U JOINT WEARS OUT EASY AND CAUSES THE STEERING TO BECOME LOOSE.
MY FRONT AXEL BROKE WHILE DRIVING ONE NIGHT WITHOUT ANY EARLY SIGNS OF ISSUES.
VEHICLE WAS RUNNING, BUT STOPPED AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD RATTLE/SHAKE SIDE TO SIDE. AFTER VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT, WHEN VEHICLE WAS STARTED UP THE NEXT MORNING THE POWER STEERING WAS NO LONGER OPERATIONAL SO VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND NOT MOVED. TWO DAYS LATER, VEHICLE WAS STARTED UP AGAIN AND POWER STEERING WAS STILL NOT WORKING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO NOTICED A RECALL THAT WOULD COVER THE REPAIRS, HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO FORD (LANDMARK FORD DEALERSHIP, TIGARD, OR) THE REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. IN 2014 A RECALL NOTICE WAS ISSUED FOR THE MAKE, MODEL, YEAR OF VEHICLE BUT NO NOTICE WAS RECEIVED BY OWNER. THE 2014 RECALL DOESN'T SEEM TO BE RESOLVED.
WHEN IN IDLE, PARK OR OR IN DRIVE. THE CARS STERRING WHEEL WOULS SHAKE. JUST SHAKE LIKE IT WAS VIOLENT RATTLE, NOT THE WHOKE CAR JUST THE SREERING WHEEL. LIKE IF IT WERE HAVIBG A SEIZURE. LIKE WISE HAPPENS WHEN ITS DRIVEN
I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR. IT HAS 18,000 MILES ON IT . AFTER DRIVING FOR ONE WEEK. I NOTICED THE CAR BRAKES HAVE BECOME VERY HARD TO STOP. ALMOST TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN A CAR TURNED IN FRONT OF MY AND I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES. I HAD AN EXTREME DELAY IN THE BRAKES AND ALMOST SMASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT . LUCKILY THERE WAS ANOTHER LANE TO MERGE INTO OR I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I NOW ALWAYS HAVE TO HAVE MY FOOT READY FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BECAUSE I AM AFRAID THE BRAKES WILL GO OUT. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THE CAR HAS A FAULTY HCU. THE COST TO REPLACE IS OVER 5000 DOLLARS. HOW DOES A CAR WITH 18K MILES REQUIRE A PART THAT COST MORE THAN AN ENGINE? THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. UPON RESEARCH WE NOTICED THAT THOUSANDS OF THESE CARS HAVE THE SAME BRAKING ISSUE AND ITS A HAZARD. A RECALL MUST BE ISSUED AND FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THEIR FAULTY CAR BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND WE WILL BE TAKING A HUGE LOSS AND DISPOSING IT IF THERE IS NO RECALL ISSUED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND THE STEERING SEIZED. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 215,000.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT, I HAVE LOST POWER STEERING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, THE SHOCK BRACKET ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE FRAME. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 172,000. *TT*JB
IT'S HARD TO TURN THE CORNER
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. RECALL 14S05. SOFTWARE UPDATE PERFORMED NOW THE TORQUE SENSOR HAS FAILED. FORD DEALER SAYS THE REPAIR IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE VEHICLE OWNER.
STEERING COLUM STARTING SHAKING LIKE HAVING A SEIZURE
WHILE DRIVING LOST POWER STEERING. NO LIGHTS OR CODES. WAS DRIVING HIGHWAY AND IN TOWN. HAD POWER STEERING THEN IT JUST QUIT ALMOST WRECKED.
FORD ESCAPE - BRAKES STARTED TO GET VERY VERY MUSHY. ONCE I PUSHED ON THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WOULD KEEP DROPPING AND NOT BE RESPONSIVE. LUCKILY I HAD ENOUGH CAR LENGTHS IN FRONT OF ME AND WAS GOING SLOWLY ENOUGH ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS TO STOP WITHOUT INJURING ANYTHING. LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY! THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING, SO I TOOK MY CAR TO A LOCAL SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. THAT STILL DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE SO THEY SAID THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT IS FAULTY AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR (AS THE BRAKES COULD COMPLETELY FAIL AT ANY TIME). TOOK THE CAR TO FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE MASTER CYLINDER (JUST REPLACED) AND SAD IF IT WASN'T THAT - IT WAS THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THEY DID NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR SINCE THE BRAKES ARE FAILING!
STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SHAKING WHEN PARKED/IDLE AND WILD STOP AFTER EXCEEDING 10MPH. ISSUE ESCALATED AND NOW HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS WHEN NOT TURNING (TRAVELING STRAIGHT). SHAKING HAS BECOME MORE VIOLENT IN WHEEL. FIRST MECHANIC DETERMINE CODES WERE ASSOCIATED WITH RECALL #14S05. FORD CLAIMS THIS RECALL WAS PERFORMED AND CLOSED IN 2015. NOW, ISSUE HAS RESURFACED, AND ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. SECOND MECHANIC AT A FORD DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THIS ISSUE IS THE SAME ISSUE AS THE RECALL AND WILL ATTEMPT TO CONTACT FORD AGAIN. STEERING POWER ASSIST FAILURE DISPLAYED.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. RECALL REPAIR IN 2014 ONLY REPROGRAMED THE STEERING MODULE DID AND NOT REPLACE DEFECTIVE PARTS. PROBLEM STARTED WHEN TURNING INTO DRIVEWAY, DASHBOARD WARNING ALERTED POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. SHOULD BE ANOTHER RECALL TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE SENSORS.
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE IN CITY, SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING, NEARLY WRECKING. I GOT CAR TO MECHANIC, HE SAID THE STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR WAS BAD. HE ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FROM FORD FOR THIS. I CALLED FORD BECAUSE THE YEAR AND MODEL DID MATCH THE RECALL. #14S05. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED. I RELUCTANTLY PAID OUT OF POCKET TO REPAIR BECAUSE THIS WAS DANGEROUS. I DO FIND IT COINCIDENTAL THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS SAME EXACT THING ON THIS VEHICLE, BUT WAS TOLD THIS ONE WAS NOT COVERED ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED, THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION.
DROVE TO WORK AT 6 AM WENT TO USE FOR LUNCH VEHICLE HAD NO POWER ASSISTED STEERING MORE LIKE MANUAL STEERING. MAKING VERY DIFFICULT IN PARKING , ON RAMPS TURNING AT INTERSECTIONS. MY MECHANIC TELLS ME STEERING COLUMN PART FAILURE THAT THEY HAVE REPLACED IN SEVERAL ESCAPES & MARINERS. MY BOSS WENT ON LINE AND FOUND INFO ON RECALL OF 915,216 FORD ESCAPES & MERCURY MARINERS. PROBLEM WAS WHEN BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPOT TYING TO TO TURN TO RIGHT WAS VERY DIFFICULT MORE LIKE MANUAL STEERING
TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A BASIC OIL CHANGE THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE CONCERNING THE STEERING. THEY PROCEEDED TO CORRECT WHATEVER RECALL NEEDED. UPON RETRIEVING THE VEHICLE BACK I HAD A HARD TIME TURNING MY KEY TO START THE CAR. I INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT "I MUST PRESS VERY HARD JAM IT IN THERE TO START IT" NOW A YEAR LATER THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS BAD AND WAS GOING TO COST ME $700 TO REPAIR. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND MANY 2008 FORD ESCAPES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM MY UNDERSTANDING WAS THAT THIS WAS A RECALL. NOW I AM STUCK WITHOUT MY VEHICLE UNLESS I PAY THE MONEY FOR THE VEHICLE THAT APPARENTLY HAS BEEN AN ISSUE.
MY DAUGHTER STARTED TO DRIVE HER CAR WHEN THE STEERING QUIT WORKING. I DROVE IT HOME WITHOUT THE POWER ASSIST. IT WAS HARD TO TURN. NOW I NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN. THIS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND HAD NO CODES ABLE TO READ ON A CODE READER. HAD TO TAKE DEALER TO USE A FORD COMPUTER TO READ WHAT IS GOING ON.
ABS LIGHT ON - BRAKES WORK MOST OF THE TIME, BUT NOT RELIABLE. REGEN LIGHT ALSO ON. THE PROBLEM OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY, ALMOST ALWAYS SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. ON 2 OCCASIONS IT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND FORCED THE VEHICLE TO SLOW TO 20MPH.
CHECK BRAKES LIGHT COMES ON WHEN REACHING 40 MPH, AND STAYS ON. ABS LIGHT COMES ON AFTER THAT. FORD DEALER INDICATES ENTIRE FRONT LEFT AXLE SHAFT NEEDS REPLACING DUE TO BROKEN TONE RINGS. VERY EXPENSIVE. OTHER REPAIR PROFESSIONALS SUGGEST THAT TONE RINGS CAN BE REPLACED SEPARATELY; MUCH LESS EXPENSE. FORD DEALER WON'T DO WITHOUT ENTIRE AXLE BEING REPLACED. HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET. BRAKE PEDAL PULSATES AND IS DIFFICULT TO APPLY BRAKES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH IN REVERSE, THE STEERING ABILITY SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING), BUT THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
PARK THE CAR WENT AND PAY A BILL CAME BACK OUT START THE CAR NO POWER STEERING COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL NO POWER STEERING. BOUGHT CAR IN 2012 CARRIAGE FORD USED.
SOMETIMES MY STEERING WHEEL IS VERY HARD. IN ADDITION, MY CAR WON'T ABLE TO START WHEN TURN MY KEY - MY BATTERY IS GOOD AND MY STARTER IS OK. NO CRANK NO START
WHEN YOU TAKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLUGGISH ON CHANGING GEARS AND AFTER A CHANGE OUT OF LOGAN HER INTO HIGH GEAR IS SYKES WORKING FINE WINE STEP ON THE BRAKES THE TRUCK STARTS BOUNCING FEELS LIKE THE FRONT END IS ABOUT TO FALL OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK AND I TOLD YOU TO THE FORD COMPANY AND THEY SAID THERE'S NO ANY RECALL ON MY VIN NUMBER BUT I HAVE A PART THAT IS LISTED UNDER THE GOVERNMENT SITE IS GOOD THAT'S WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY VEHICLE IS A FORD ESCAPE 2008.
THE POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING, AND HAD A HARD TIME TRYING TO STEER THE CAR IN TRAFFIC, THIS IS HARD TO TRY AND TURN THE WHEEL. IF THIS HAPPED IN A LOT OF TRAFFIC IT COULD BE A WRECK. I THINK FORD SHOULD BE HELD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT I DID NOT HAVE A WRECK BUT IT WAS A SURPRISE WHEN I TRIED TO TURN THE CORNER.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I WENT AND GOT THE POWER STEERING RECALL FIXED 1 YR TO MAYBE 2 YRS AGO AND FORD SAID IT WAS FIXED. NOW I'M HAVING POWER STEERING GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING AND CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT. I THEN TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON AND IT GOES BACK TO WORKING CORRECTLY. I WENT BACK TO FORD AND THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL HAS BEEN FIXED AND CLOSED OUT AND NOTHING THEY CAN DO. NOW I'M HAVING POWER STEERING STILL GOING OUT AND NOW ALL MY LIGHTS (ABS,TRACTION CONTROL,TIRE,AIR BAG, ANTI THEFT LIGHT). AFTER SPENDING 200 AT FORD THEY TOLD ME ECM IS BAD AND NEED TO REPLACE. ALMOST 500 AT FORD FOR KEYS TO BE PROGRAMMED TO NEW COMPUTER I AM STILL HAVING SAME PROBLEMS AND FORD WANTS ME TO SPEND MORE MONEY TO SEE WHAT THE NEXT STEP IS.
LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK, JERKED, AND LOST POWER. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A MEDIAN AND A TIRE BLEW OUT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BIG VALLEY FORD LINCOLN (3282 AUTO CENTER CIR, STOCKTON, CA 95212, (800) 867-1516) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000.
ABS BRAKES ENGAGING WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS CONSTANTLY.
ELECTRIC STEERING PUMP TURNS OFF WHEN STEERING WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR QUITS WORKING CAUSING THE ELECTRIC STEERING PUMP TO TURN OFF. THIS IN TURN MAKES THE VEHICLE HARD TO STEER WHEN DRIVING AND MAY CAUSE A ACCIDENT.

I HAVE A 2008 FORD ESCAPE TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT THERE WAS A RECALL BUT WITH WARRANTY MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOT HELP ME OUT AT ALL THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE REOPENED
POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON 2008 FORD ESCAPE WHEN TURNING OUT OF PARKING LOT. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC; HE SAID THERE'S A RECALL (14S05) ON IT. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THEY RAN THE VIN # AND SAID THERE'S NO OPEN RECALL. THE INFO I'VE GATHERED STATES THAT IT'S ON MODELS ASSEMBLED IN KANSAS CITY, AND MY ESCAPE WAS ASSEMBLED IN KANSAS CITY, ACCORDING TO VIN. I'VE FOUND OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE. I REMEMBER TAKING IT IN FOR A RECALL A COUPLE YEARS AGO BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS FOR; AND I'M LEARNING THAT FORD ONLY FIXED THE SOFTWARE BUT NOT THE PARTS RELATED TO THIS RECALL. I THINK THIS IS HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED.

THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE AND WAS LATER DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
ON 10/25/2018, MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2008 FORD ESCAPE AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. SHE COMPLETELY LOST POWER STEERING. THIS OCCURRED IN TRAFFIC AND SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTINUE STEERING THE CAR. NO WARNINGS OR CODES APPEARED. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN HER HAVING AN ACCIDENT AND PERHAPS KILLING SOMEONE OR HERSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP IN BIRMINGHAM, AL (LONG-LEWIS FORD) AND DIAGNOSED WITH CODE B2278/NEEDS STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED CONTACTING FORD AS THIS WAS CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER TALKING WITH A SUPERVISOR, THEY INFORMED ME THAT SAFETY RECALL 14S05 WAS COMPLETED ON THE CAR ON JULY 2014, 2018 AT FORD SQUARE OF MOUNT VERNON IN MOUNT VERNON, IL SO THERE WERE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE AT THE TIME. I PROCEEDED TO CONTACT THAT DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT THAT THEY ONLY REPROGRAMMED THE PSCM SINCE THE CAR DIDN'T HAVE A FAULT CODE. I DID NOT OWN THE CAR DURING THIS TIME SINCE I PURCHASED IT 5 MONTHS LATER. INTERMITTENT ISSUES OCCURRED AFTER THE PURCHASE WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY BUT WERE TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT EVERYTHING WAS OK. AGAIN, NO WARNINGS OR CODES APPEARED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY FORD MECHANICS THAT THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE PSCM REMOVED FORD FROM RESPONSIBILITY AND NOW OWNERS ARE STUCK WITH AN EXPENSIVE CAR REPAIR. SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS HAVE STATED THAT FORD WAS NEGLIGENT IN CORRECTING THE PROBLEM AND NOW MORE CARS ARE STARTING TO SEE THE PROBLEM AND CAUSING EVERYBODY ON THE ROAD TO BE AT RISK OF AN ACCIDENT, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN DEATH. THE CAR HAS 113,000 MILES ON IT AND IT WILL BE REPAIRED AT LONG-LEWIS FORD AT MY EXPENSE WHICH IS VERY COSTLY. THE CAR WAS ASSEMBLED AT THE KANSAS CITY PLANT WHICH WAS THE SUBJECT OF THE RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE POWER STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING TORQUE ANGLE SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WILLIS FORD (15 N DUPONT BOULEVARD, SMYRNA, DE 18877) PERFORMED A SOFTWARE UPDATE OF THE POWER STEERING PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) IN 2015. THE DEALER ONLY PERFORMED THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND DID NOT REPLACE THE PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. *TT*JB
LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT LOWER SPEED. AFTER SITTING FOR 10 HOURS, STARTED CAR AND HAD NO POWER STEERING ASSIST WHEN BACKING UP. VEHICLE HAS RECALL 14S05. RECALL IS AS FOLLOWS: IF VEHICLE HAS CODE B2278, REPLACE POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR. IF VEHICLE HAS CODE B3142 OR B2277, REPLACE STEERING ASSEMBLY. IF NO CODES STORED, REPROGRAM PSCM AND IC MODULE. MY CAR HAD NO CODES JUNE 2016 AND REPROGRAMING WAS DONE. TWO YEARS LATER, I HAVE NO POWER STEERING AND CODE B2278. POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. DEALER/MANUFACTURER STATES RECALL WAS ALREADY DONE AND WILL NOT PERFORM SENSOR REPLACEMENT.
MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER.
POWER STEERING FAILED BECAUSE OF A BAD SENSOR. FORD DEALER SAID PROGRAMMING WAS COVERED IN A RECALL NOT REPAIRING THE HARD PART THAT FAILED. STEERING WAS POSSIBLE WITH HUGE AMOUNT OF EFFORT WITH THE BAD SENSOR.. REPLACED SENSOR AND THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING WAS RESTORED.
