THROTTLE BODY "SECRET" RECALL: FOR MORE THAN A YEAR MY GAS PEDAL WOULDN'T WORK WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER BEING STOPPED AT RANDOM TIMES, SOMETIMES GOING MONTHS BEFORE IT DID IT AGAIN, OTHER TIMES DOING IT MULTIPLE TIMES DURING A 2 MILE TRIP. IT NEVER SET OFF ANY CODES RELATING TO THE ISSUE. FOUR MECHANICS OVER A YEAR LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE INCLUDING THE DEALERSHIP AND FIXED MULTIPLE THINGS AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO DIE WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT, USUALLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. AFTER SPENDING $600+, FORD FINALLY DECIDED TO TRY A NEW PART (THROTTLE BODY), WHICH WAS FREE TO ME BECAUSE OF A RECALL THAT WAS NOT ADVERTISED. AFTER A WEEK, THIS SEEMS TO HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE. NOW I HAVE PAID $600+ FOR PARTS THAT WEREN'T CAUSING THE ISSUE AND SPENT A YEAR TRYING TO SOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR

A FEW DAYS AGO HEARD LOUD CLUNKING SOUND - CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID "NONE" COMPLETELY EMPTY (NO LEAKING ON GROUND) FILLED TRANSMISSION FLUID - SAME SOUND - IMMEDIATELY TOOK TO DEALER. DEALER ADVISED CENTER SUPPORT SNAP RING FAILED - INSTRUCTED ME TO CALL FORD DIRECTLY REFERENCE "FORD SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE #22547" AS THIS IS A "KNOWN DEFECT WITH THIS VEHICLE". CALLED FORD DIRECTLY - CASE NUMBER WAS OPENED BUT NO OFFER TO ASSIST WITH TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. DEALER QUOTED $4,500 TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION $2,600 FOR REPAIR (REPAIR IS ONLY GUARANTEED FOR 2 YEARS) REPLACEMENT IS GUARANTEED FOR 3 YEARS. THANKS FOR NOTHING FORD!
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE STARTED "FLARING" BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEARS "FLARING" IS A TERM USED BY FORD TO DESCRIBE WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DELAYS SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS AND THE ENGINE REVS UNTIL IT FINALLY SHIFTS. . THIS HAS NOT REALLY BEEN A SAFETY ISSUE UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO. IT STARTED "FLARING" OCCASIONALLY BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS ALSO. THIS IS A CONCERN BECAUSE I'M NOT UP TO SPEED WHEN THIS HAPPENS BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND. WITH TRAFFIC BEING HEAVY AT TIMES, I'M CONCERNED THAT SOMEONE COULD REAREND ME WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE DEARER ALONG WITH THE FORD REPRESENTATIVE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEARS SO I DOUBT THEY WILL RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM EITHER. I'M FURTHER CONCERNED THAT IT COULD START HAPPENING WITH 1ST GEAR AND I COULD START TO ENTER A HIGHWAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN INTENDED AND THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATE WHEN IT WASN'T SAFE TO DO SO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CONTAMINATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
I WAS WITH MY DAUGHTER ON OUR WAY TO TAKE HER BACK TO COLLEGE. WHILE IN MOTION DRIVING WESTBOUND ON 595 (A MAJOR HWY) MY VEHICLE FELT TO HAVE SURGED AND LULLED, SURGED AND LULLED A FEW TIMES AS I ACCELERATED PULLING ON TO 595 (AN ENTRANCE WITH A SLIGHT INCLINE) I CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TO SAFELY MERGE WITH TRAFFIC ON 595 W WITHIN MOMENTS THE LITTLE YELLOW/ORANGE "WRENCH" LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH AND SUDDENLY I HAD NO CONTROL OVER MY ACCELERATION. MY VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO MY APPLYING GAS AND I WATCHED THE SPEEDOMETER RAPIDLY DROP BEFORE MY EYES FROM 68 MPH TO 16 MPH AS I DID MY BEST TO CROSS OVER SEVERAL LANES IN FAST TRAFFIC TO AN EXIT FOR 95 N WHICH WAS FORTUNATELY THERE. MY VEHICLE "LIMPED" (IDENTICALLY AS OTHERS HAVE SHARED) AND I SAFELY PULLED OVER ONTO THE GRASS WHERE I WAITED THE NEXT 1.5 HOURS FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO TOW ME HOME AT 9:00 P.M. WHILE WAITING I BEGAN TROUBLE SHOOTING MY VEHICLES ISSUE BASED ON WHAT THE MANUAL HAD STATED AND WAS TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED TO FIND ALL THE INFORMATION REGARDING THE ETC AND TO LEARN THAT MY VEHICLE WAS INDEED ONE OF THOSE WHICH WAS EXTENDED AND WITH THIS DEFECTIVE PART. I HAD NOT RECEIVED THE LETTER AND SO I WAS UNAWARE OF THE "RECALL THAT WASN'T..." IT WAS AN UNFORTUNATE EXPERIENCE AND NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD'S LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY. FROM WHAT I'VE READ THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. NOW I AM LEFT WITH HAVING TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HOPING THEY ADDRESS THE REAL ISSUE AT HAND AND BE ACCOUNTABLE NOW AND STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES. MY FORD HAS NEVER LEFT ME STRANDED UNTIL NOW AND SADLY SO THIS MALFUNCTION/DEFECT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED HAD FORD FOCUSED ON CUSTOMER SAFETY AND SERVICE SATISFACTION. I'VE OWNED 2 FORDS AND WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO DO THINGS THE AMERICAN WAY. FORD WILL NEED TO STEP IT UP AND DO THEIR PART!

GAS PEDAL BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE WITHOUT WARNING. BRAKES WORK BUT SHAKE CAR WHEN I TRY AND SLOW DOWN. CAR SEEMS OK AFTER TURNING ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON. I BOUGHT THIS 2010 ESCAPE PRE-OWNED IN 2013 AND THIS HAPPENED THE DAY WE GOT IT. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND IT HAS BEEN FINE UNTIL ABOUT A WEEK AGO WHEN SAME ISSUE HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN A WEEK. DEALERSHIP IS REPLACING THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY ONCE AGAIN FOR FREE. IT CONCERNS ME THAT THIS IS HAVING TO BE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. IF A MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE LIKE THIS AND THEY REPLACE THE PART, I'M EXPECTING WHATEVER WAS INHERENTLY WRONG WITH THE PART CAUSING IT TO FAIL TO BE FIXED. NOW I'M WONDERING HOW LONG UNTIL IT HAS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN OR IF IT WILL GO OUT DURING HIGH TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY PUTTING MY WIFE IN HARMS WAY WITHOUT ANY WAY TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO CLAIMED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AND ATTEMPTED TO CHARGE THE CONTACT FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WOULD BE CHARGED FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,268. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

*P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM-STUCK OPEN* THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS PULLING ON TO THE HIGHWAY FROM A SIDE ROAD WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE MY CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND JERK THEN LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT TO A SIDE STREET WHERE I TURNED IT OFF AND THEN TRIED TURNING IT BACK ON AGAIN, MY CAR WOULDN'T TURN OVER AT FIRST AND TOOK THREE TIMES BEFORE IT FINALLY CAM BACK ON WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL AND I TOOK IT BACK HOME WHERE IT STAYED TILL A FRIEND COULD COME LOOK AT IT. NOTHING WAS FOUND AT FIRST. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND I STARTED TO LOSE POWER I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO O'REILY'S WHERE THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND CAME UP WITH THE CODE LISTED ABOVE.
WHEN I WAS TAKEN A LEFT TURN, IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT TURN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT ALL MOST CAUSE A ACCIDENT. FORD HAD A RECALL ON A SOFTWARE UPGRADE LAST YEAR AN, BECAUSE I HAD THIS DONE THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY OF THE COST FOR REPAIRS.
THIS CAN HAPPEN ANY TIME THE ENGINE IS STOP, WHILE PARK AT HOME,SHOPPING ANY WHERE THE ENGINE IS STOP . TO START THE KEY IN INSERTED TO STEERING COLUMN OPENING AND IT WILL NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY AT TIMES IT TAKES TO MOVE BACK AND FORT THE KEY WHILE INSERTED AND IT WILL START, THIS IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN NOW. TOOK THE ESCAPE TO GRAND PRAIRIE FORD TEXAS AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK MODULE NEED TO BE REPLACE PLUS AN ALIGNMENT TOTAL FOR $787.65 UNDERSTAND THAT THE 2009 ESCAPE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM BUT FORD HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON IT BUT NOT THE 2010, THIS IS RATHER ABSURD SINCE THE KNOW THE PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE THE CHOICE TO REPAIR OR DRIVE UNTIL THE KEY NO LONGER WORKS, WHAT A CHOICE, I'M A WIDOWER , RETIRED AND LIVE ON SS, THANKS FORD.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON. DISPLAYS A ERROR CODE OF P2119. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL VALVE. THE SYMBOL OF A WRENCH IS ALSO DISPLAYED.
TAKATA RECALL / FORD DEFECTIVE PRODUCT LOW MILEAGE ESCAPE INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL CRASH AND REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE (2005 ACCURA) AND THE AIR BAG SYSTEM FAILED TO DEPLOY. $13,000 ESCAPE WAS TOTALED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
ON 8/24/2016 MY FORD ESCAPE LOST POWER, ACCELERATOR NOT WORKING, WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON FREEWAY. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER TURNING OFF AND ON ENGINE, IT WORKED FINE.IT HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN 10 MINUTES. FORD DEALER FIXED IT BY REPLACING ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FOR ON 8/30/2016. ON 10/10/2016 IT HAPPENED TWICE AGAIN AND FORD DEALER DID NOTHING BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG ON IT. NOW IT IS OK, NOT SURE IF IT WILL HAPPEN LATER.
RECALL HAS EXPIRED ON MY SUV DUE TO IT BEING OVER 150,000 MILES. I DIDNT NOT RECIEVE A LETTER INDICATING THAT I NEEDED THIS UPDATE DONE TO MY CAR UNTIL AUG 19 2016 WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO LOOSE POWER WITH THE WRENCH SYMBOL BEING DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE ON AUG 20 2016 AND SPOKE TO REPRESENTIVE THAT TOLD ME THAT MY CAR HAD A RECALL ON IT THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE DONE AND SAID THAT I HAD 10 YEARS FROM THE TIME THE CAR WAS MADE OR 150,000 MILES TO HAVE THE SERVICE COMPLETED. I DID TELL HIM THAT MY CAR WAS OVER THE 150,000 BUT HE TOLD ME THAT THE SERVICE COULD STILL BE DONE DUE TO IT BEING WITHIN THE 10 YEAR MARK AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. SO ON AUG 21 2016 I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN GREENVILLE SC WHERE NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE SERIVE CAN NOT BE DONE BECAUSE I HAVE OVER 150,000 MILES. IT WILL COST ME $101.00 TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT PLUS THE AMOUNT TO REPAIR IT NOT TO MENTION I AM OUT OF THE MONEY IT COSTED ME TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THAT LOCATION. IF I HAD BEEN TOLD THE SERVICE COULD NOT BE DONE I WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN IT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. I FEEL I SHOULD GET SOME KIND OF COMPENSATION SINCE I AM OUT OF MONEY AND NEVER EVEN RECIEVED THE RECALL LETTER. OH NOR HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE.

RUNS JUST FINE, UNTIL ABOUT 5MILES DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THEN ABOUT ANOTHER 3WKS LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON A BACKROAD IN NC AT ABOUT 60MPH. THIS TRIP IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND FINALLY ONCE I GOT PARKED AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON (JUST TO CHECK), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I LEFT MY LOCATION, PRAYING I'D MAKE IT HOME, NO ENGINE LIGHT, BUT NOW THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. STOPPED FOR GAS (I HAD TOO, I WAS TRAVELING THROUGH THE COUNTRY) AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, NO ENGINE LIGHT OR WRENCH LIGHT INDICATOR. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED AGAIN ON TWO MORE OCCASIONS YET NEITHER PROBLEM INDICATOR LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED. I'VE HAD THE TRUCK "COMPUTER SCANNED" WITH NO ERROR/PROBLEM CODES SHOWING UP. I'VE CALLED 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, WHO TOLD ME "FLAT OUT" ...NO PROBLEM LIGHTS/CODE...NO FIX UNDER THE "CUSTOMER SERVICE EXTENDED WARRANTY. YOU'LL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. MILLIONS OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE SO CALLED "CUSTOMER SERVICE EXTENDED WARRANTY" YET THE STIPULATIONS IT MAKES IT VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY REPAIRS OF A KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART/SYSTEM MALFUNCTION. A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN 2014 FOR THE POWER STEERING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE "FIXED" THE RECALL IN OCT OF 2014. TODAY THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE CAR. HE WAS ALSO MAKING A TURN IN A BUSY INTERSECTION. HAD I BEEN DRIVING, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR WITH MANUAL STEERING AND MAY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE PUT LESS THAN 20K MILES ON THE CAR SINCE THE "FIX" BUT I AM OUTSIDE THE 2 YEAR OR 12,000 MILE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR THE RECALL. IT TAKES MY ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO FIND OTHERS ON FORUMS THAT THIS EXACT SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO. I DON'T THINK A SOFTWARE FIX (WHICH IS WHAT WAS DONE) WAS THE APPROPRIATE FIX FOR A DETERMINED FAULTY PART, THE TORQUE SENSOR. FORD NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND RECALL THE PART AND NOT TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT AND DO A SOFTWARE UPDATE.
WHEN WE USE THE MAX A/C IT RECIRCULATES AND YOU CAN SMELL VERY HEAVY GAS. WHEN YOU TURN IT TO REGULAR A/C THE SMELL GOES AWAY. IT IS HORRIBLE.
CORROSION OF HATCHBACK BRACKETS.I HAVE OWNENED MY ESCAPE FOR 2 YRS AND NOTICED THE CORROSION OF THESE BRACKETS.I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM SHOPPING AND WENT TO OPEN THE GLASS PORTION OF THE HATCHBACK WHEN THE HINGES BROKE OFF DUE TO THE CORROSION OVER THE YEARS.THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK ABOUT IS WHAT IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE I WAS ON AN INTERSTATE,NOT A GOOD ENDING. FUEL INLET LIGHT IS ON. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH FORD. I NEED IT FIXED.
MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I WAS LOADING MY CARGO AREA. AS I CLOSED MY LIFT GATE, THE REAR GLASS EXPLODED. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD HAVE POKED THE GLASS TO SHATTER IT. THE BROKEN GLASS COVERED ME AND ACTUALLY, SOMEHOW MANAGED TO SEND SHARDS IN FRONT OF MY FRONT BUMPER. THANK GOODNESS THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE WITHIN 10 FEET OF MY VEHICLE.

ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND BRAKE INDICATORS ALL LIT AS WELL AS A MESSAGE TO CHECK BRAKES ALL CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. APPLYING THE BRAKES CAUSED DRAMATICALLY REDUCED BRAKING ABILITY (NEARLY NONE), RENDERING THE CAR UNDRIVABLE. CAR HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY SERVICED AT THE DEALER SINCE PURCHASE. PURCHASED THE EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AND THAT ENDED LAST YEAR. REPAIR COST $2500 AT THE DEALER.
