TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000. UPDATED 08/14/14*LJ THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 09/16/14
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT GAVE IT GAS. THE CAR WENT CLUNK AND THEN STOPPED MOVING BUT ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. LUCKILY I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SHUT IT OFF WAITED A BUT THEN TRIED TO START IT. AT FIRST IT HESITATED BUT STARTED. 2 DAYS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN. HAD IT ON A COMPUTER NOTHING SHOWED UP. 2 WEEKS LATER ON A SATURDAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THEN ON MONDAY GOING TO WORK IT DID IT AGAIN. WHEN I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK THAT DAY IT DID IT 2 MORE TIMES AT THAT TIME THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN WE WERE ABLE TO GET A CODE. HE CODE CAME UP AS P2112. THANK YOU. *JS
WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE BEGAN SPUTTERING AND IDLING LOW, UNABLE TO EXCEED 5 MPH. *JS
TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH WHEN THE WRENCH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. I COASTED INTO A PULL OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. RESTARTED A FEW MINUTES LATER AND WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. IN APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES, AT THE SAME APPROXIMATE SPEED, THE WRENCH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. AGAIN I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND THEN RESTARTED. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES STORED IN THE SYSTEM AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE RECALLED "REPROGRAMMING" WAS COMPLETED ON THE CAR. THEY HAVE OFFERED TO KEEP MY VEHICLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL DAY TO TRY TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND TO CHECK A FEW ADDITIONAL ITEMS. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH ON I-45 SOUTH OF HOUSTON, TX. MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE LOST POWER. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO MANEUVER ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC WHILE COASTING TO A STOP. LUCKILY I WAS NOT HIT!!! I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ALLOWED IT TO SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES. I RESTARTED IT AND THE ORANGE WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED ON THE DASH. I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP CAME ON. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME WITH LIMITED OPERATION, DECREASED ENGINE POWER AND VEHICLE SPEED. I EXPERIENCED FAILURE ONE MORE TIME DURING THIS TRIP. WHEN I HAD THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC) PULLED IT WAS P2111, "THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN." RESEARCHING IT ON THE INTERNET REVEALED NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE13003. *TR
TRAVELING ON FREEWAY 65MPH SUDDEN LOSS OF SPEED, UNABLE TO ACCELERATE WHEN PUSHED ON GAS PEDAL, WAS ABLE TO STEER AND BRAKE, MANEUVERED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON DASHBOARD. TURNED OFF INGNITON THEN RESTARTED CAR FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. FELT CAR WAS TO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND HAD CAR TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP, REPLACED ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. VERY DANGEROUS TO LOOSE POWER AT THAT SPEED ON THE FREEWAY, WAS IN MIDDLE LANE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *JS
THE REAR WINDSHIELD EXPLODED WHILE I WAS PARKED. I WAS BEHIND THE CAR AND WAS SHOWERED WITH GLASS AS WERE MY PERSONAL ITEMS IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING A CORNER, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SURGED INTERMITTENTLY ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,150.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS I HAVE NOTICED MY TRUCK ACCELERATING WHILE I WAS STOPPED. ON JUNE 10, I WAS ON MY WAY TO CHURCH AND I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR IT NO POWER WENT TO THE CAR AND IT STARTED SPURTING. I HAD TO COAST AND PULL OVER. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I CUT THE TRUCK OFF AND THEN CRANKED THE CAR AGAIN AND I WAS ACCELERATING. TWO DAYS LATER THIS HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN TWO DIFFERENT TIMES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON I75 AT 75 MPH WHEN MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE LOST POWER DROPPING TO LESS THAN 20 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO GET FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE BERM THREE LANES TO MY RIGHT. I WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR DRIVING ABOUT 100 YDS. WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 20 MINUTES THEN RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO WORK ON SIDE ROADS WITH THE CAR SURGING AND JERKING ALONG THE WAY. I TOOK THE CAR TO HUNTINGTON FORD THE NEXT DAY AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A CAUSE. THE FOLLOWING DAY I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD REGARDING WHAT HUNTINGTON REFERRED TO AS A "LIMP HOME" MODE WHICH LET TAKE TO A DEALER AND HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPROGRAMMED, WHICH I DID. THE CAR WAS OK FOR A FEW DAYS AFTER THAT AND THEN STARTED STALLING AND SURGING AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I SHOULD REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY BUT THAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY I WOULD STILL NEED TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 2MONTHS AGO (APRIL 2014) AS I WAS DRIVING ON A STATE ROAD (NEW CIRCLE RD IN LEXINGTON KY)AT AROUND 60MPH DURING MY MORNING COMMUTE AROUND 8AM. THE VEHICLE SEEMINGLY STALLED BUT ALL THE SYSTEMS WERE FINE (STILL HAD POWER STEERING, LIGHTS, RADIO, BRAKING SYSTEM ETC) WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ACCELERATOR WHICH DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS. I WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, SAT FOR ABOUT 5 MINS & WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON THE ROAD WITHOUT FURTHER ISSUE (THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIDN'T EVEN COME BACK ON). THE MOST RECENT DATE WAS 06/07/14 WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR AS PASSENGERS. I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT TURNING LEFT WHEN, AS PREVIOUSLY, THE ENGINE STALLED AS I WAS TURNING. AGAIN, ALL SYSTEMS REGISTERED AND WERE WORKING BUT WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS NOTHING HAPPENED. AGAIN I WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE. THIS TIME AFTER WAITING ROUGHLY 5 MINS AND TURNING THE ENGINE BACK ON, NOTHING HAPPENED AFTER I HIT THE ACCELERATOR. I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK OFF AND WAITED AN ADDITIONAL 5 MINS. THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO GIVE THE CAR GAS AND AS MY HOME WAS NEARBY WAS THANKFULLY ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY HOUSE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HOWEVER DID NOT GO OFF AS IT HAD PREVIOUSLY. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY DEALERSHIP ON 06/09/14 AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ADJUST THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD, THE SEAT WILL SOMETIME MOVE VERY SLOWLY IN EITHER DIRECTION, OR ONLY ONE WAY, OR OTHER TIME NOT AT ALL IN EITHER DIRECTION. THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR ME, AS IT IMPAIRS MY ABILITY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. ALSO, I HAVE NOTICE THE MY SEAT FRAMES ARE RUSTING. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY (WITH TWO CHILDREN UNDER 4 IN THE CAR), LUCKILY IT WAS STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE CAR COMPLETELY AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST POWER AND I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO PUT HAZARDS ON AND PULL OVER TO THE BREAK-DOWN LANE (ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC), TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. IT RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. (WEATHER WAS WARM- MID 60S, NO HUMIDITY, I HAD DRIVEN THE CAR EARLIER IN THE DAY AND HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. THE CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED AND HAD RECENTLY HAD AN OIL CHANGE.) *TR
THE STEERING STOPS WITH NO WARNING. IT FIRST HAPPENED IN 2011 WITH 27,259 MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE POWER STEERING COLUMN/MODULE ASSY. IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. THERE IS A RECALL, BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID OUR CAR WAS NOT PART OF THAT RECALL AND THEY COULDN'T GET THE CODE TO COME UP SO THEY DID NOTHING! THIS LAST TIME, MY YOUNG DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING! *TR
WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE. TURNED IGNITION OFF, WAITED 10 MINUTES, THEN CRANKED VEHICLE, AND IT RAN NORMALLY...UPDATED 12/04/14 *BF
LOUD NOISE FRONT LEFT FRONT WHEEL. I THINK THAT AT 66 THOUSAND MILES THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TRAVELING ABOUT 6 PM (RUSH HOUR HEAVY TRAFFIC) 3 LANE EXPRESSWAY WHEN CAR WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE LEFT SHOULDER SINCE WE WERE IN THE LEFT PASSING LANE. THE LEFT SHOULDER WAS NOT AS WIDE AS THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND WE FELT THE SITUATION WAS VERY DANGEROUS WE STAYED IN THE CAR WITH OUR SEATBELTS ON AND CALLED FOR ROAD SERVICE (AAA). WE DID NOT RECEIVE HELP FOR TWO HOURS. JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR TWO MONTHS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT - PRE OWNED CERTIFIED BY DEALERSHIP. CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD WAITS UNTIL THE PART FAILS BEFORE REPLACING IT. I FEEL STRONGLY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED AS PART OF THE "CERTIFICATION" PROCESS. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATIONS THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BEFORE IT HAPPENED. AFTER THE CAR "DIED", A WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED, BUT NOT UNTIL AFTER WE HAD COASTED TO A STOP. IF WE HAD BEEN IN THE MIDDLE LANE INSTEAD OF THE LANE NEXT TO THE SHOULDER, I FEEL CERTAIN WE WOULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A HIGH SPEED POSSIBLE MULTIPLE CAR ACCIDENT AS TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND FAST. THIS IS SO VERY WRONG! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS COMPLAINT POSSIBLE. I HOPE IT HELPS RESULT IN A RECALL BY FORD RIGHT AWAY SO NO ONE HAS TO GET HURT OR EVEN DIE. *TR
THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT IN TWO DAYS, I'M DRIVING ALONG WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OF THE GAS PEDAL AND COAST, THE ENGINE DIES, THE DASH SHOWS THE BATTERY AND OIL LIGHT. YOU CAN STILL STEER, BUT THE CAR SLOWS DOWN DRASTICALLY WITH THE ENGINE NOT RUNNING, I HAD SOMEONE ALMOST REAR END ME, BECAUSE I SLOWED DOWN SO MUCH. ALL INCIDENTS WERE THE SAME, BUT THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT WAS VERY SCARY BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE CAR WILL START BACK UP IF YOU PARK IT OR PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, BUT I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION THE THIRD TIME, STOPPED TRAFFIC CARS WERE HONKING AT ME. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, TAKING IT IN TOMORROW TO GET IT FIXED, SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR

THE DASHBOARD AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON, STAYED LIT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND WENT OFF. AS TIME HAS ELAPSED, THE LIGHT COMES ON MORE FREQUENTLY. BECAUSE THE CAR ONLY HAD 45-46,000 MILES, I DID NOT BELIEVE IT WAS A PROBLEM. THE LIGHT WAS DIAGNOSED 2 DAYS AGO AT ROD BAKER FORD, PLAINFIELD IL. I WAS TOLD BY ROBERT THAT WHEN ILLUMINATED, THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE AIR BAG MODULE HAS A SHORT. HE ALSO STATED HE HAS SEEN AND HEARD OF THIS BEFORE BUT BECAUSE IT HAS NOT HAPPENED TO MORE OWNERS, FORD DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS A CANDIDATE FOR A RECALL. MY CAR NOW HAS 49,000 MILES AND I'M FACED WITH A $1,000 REPAIR BILL FOR A KEY SAFETY SYSTEM. I UNDERSTAND COMPUTERIZED SYSTEMS MAY HAVE MORE PROBLEMS BUT DO NOT BELIEVE SAFETY SYSTEMS SHOULD BE HELD TO THE SAME 3 YEAR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY AS SOMETHING LIKE THE RADIO OR POWER WINDOWS. AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING IS, APPARENTLY, NOT AS SERIOUS AS THE BACK WINDOW. I WILL HAVE THE REPAIRS MADE WHEN THE PART IS AVAILABLE. AFTER OWNING NEW FORD PRODUCTS FOR THE PAST 42 YEARS, THIS WILL BE MY LAST. *TR
I WENT TO STOP AT THE LIGHT AND SUV JERKED AND SHOOK. SOUNDED LIKE BOTTOM FELL OUT OF SUV. PULLED INTO PARKING LOT. SUV RUNNING BUT WHEN PUTTING FOOT ON GAS NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN, NO MATTER WHAT GEAR. TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THROTTLE BODY BAD. THIS IS THE 2ND PART THAT IS DEFECTIVE ON THE 2010 FORD ESCAPE!!! REPLACED TRANSMISSION AT 60,500 MILES (GOT RIPPED OFF WHEN FORD WOULD NOT WARRANTY)! *TR
SLOWLY APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, VEHICLE STALLED. BATTERY LIGHT, WRENCH LIGHT, AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO RESTART IT, STARTED AND WENT ON. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON I-45 JUST SOUTH OF DALLAS WHEN THE ENGINE LURCHED SLIGHTLY AND I LOST POWER. I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, DODGING TRAFFIC. THERE WERE NO WARNING OR INDICATOR LIGHTS; GAS TANK WAS HALF FULL. ONCE I CAME TO A STOP I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES, STARTED THE ENGINE AND DROVE NORMALLY FOR ABOUT 30 MILES WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. I COULD HEAR THE ENGINE "REV" WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE FORWARD. AGAIN, I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 15 MILES TO WHERE I FOUND A FORD DEALER. THE DEALERSHIP WAS GREAT AND FIXED THE VEHICLE AT NO CHARGE, INSTALLING A NEW THROTTLE BODY, THEY SAID UNDER WARRANTY. BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THE STALL OCCURS ON A VERY BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. I CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE VERY LUCKY. *TR
ESCAPE SITTING AT STOP LIGHT WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON DASH AND ESCAPE HAD NO POWER TURNED CAR OFF AND THEN RESTARTED THE ESCAPE AND DROVE HOME NOT ANOTHER ISSUE FOR THE NEXT 16 MILES.. USED OBDII CODE READER TO SCAN ESCAPES ON BOARD COMPUTER AND IT HAD FREEZE FRAME DATA FROM A P2111 CODE WHICH INDICATES THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. *TR
1ST OCCURANCE HAPPENED WHEN GOING INTO AN EXIT IN THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA FROM THE HIGHWAY. ALL GADGETS FROZE AND SHUT DOWN. ENGINE KEPT RUNNING BUT STAYED AT 40 MPH NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE. 2ND OCCURENCE HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IN NJ, SAME THING SPEEDOMETER STAYED STUCK AT 40 MPH NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES. *JS

ENTERING I-85 GOING WEST AT APPROX. 60MPH. APPROX 1/4 MILE THE CAR LOST POWER AS I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY. TRAFFIC WAS MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY AROUND ME AND I PUT ON MY BLINKER TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE STARTED MISFIRING AND IDLING ROUGH. VEHICLE LOST POWER, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND I ROLLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT DROVE NORMALLY. *TR
1ST OCCURRENCE: I WAS DRIVING AT 35MPH AND SUDDENLY MY CAR SURGED FORWARD THEN SLOWED DOWN TO 5MPH. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO A HIGHER MPH BUT IT WOULD NOT LET ME GO ANY FASTER. I COULD STEER AND THE RADIO WAS STILL ON. CONFUSED, I COASTED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LOOKED AT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FOR A LIGHT OF SOME KIND (NONE WERE THERE). I THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND LET IT SIT FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES THEN IT RESTARTED AND I DROVE HOME (ABOUT 1 1/2 MILES) THE 2ND OCCURRENCE - MAY 6TH. I HAD JUST LEFT MY DOCTOR'S OFFICE, WITHIN 1 1/2 MINUTES & DRIVING 15 MPH (1/16 OF A MILE) THE FAILURE HAPPENED AGAIN. I AGAIN HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD APPLY MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES. IT RE-STARTED AND I DROVE IT HOME (IT WAS INTERMEDIATELY SURGING FORWARD) ABOUT 5 MILES. THE 3RD OCCURRENCE: MAY 8TH ON I-70 WESTBOUND :SPEED 60 MPH: LOSS OF POWER, COASTED TO THE BERM OF THE HIGHWAY, ( THANK GOODNESS ALL THE TRAFFIC WAS 1 MILE BEHIND ME OR THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT) TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 2 MINUTES AND RESTARTED MADE IT TO WORK AND HOME WITHOUT FURTHER STALLING BUT THE JERKING CONTINUED. I CALLED INTERSTATE FORD (MIAMISBURG) EXPLAINED THE PROBLEMS I WAS EXPERIENCING AND MY FEAR TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, AND SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER. THE GAS PEDAL WAS NON RESPONSIVE AND THE CAR WAS SURGING FORWARD. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. ABOUT 5 MINS LATER I TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE ENGINE AND THROTTLE LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE THROTTLE LIGHT WENT OFF, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. I THEN TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME, BUT AFTER ABOUT TWO BLOCKS THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES UNTIL I COULD GET THE CAR TO A SAFE PLACE AND OUT OF THE ROAD. THE CAR IS STILL IN THE PARKING LOT WHERE I LEFT IT AND I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO FIND OUT MY TOWING AND REPAIR OPTIONS. *TR
WHEN TRAVELING AT APPROX 50 MPH, THE ENGINE MADE AN AUTOMATIC DE ACCELERATION, WITH THE RPMS GOING TO 1000. EVEN WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE RPMS DID NOT CHANGE AND THE CAR CAME TO A VERY SLOW SPEED JUST OVER IDLE SPEED. A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED IN THE INDICATOR LIGHTS. I PLACED IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. WHEN RESTARTING, THE WRENCH SYMBOL WENT AWAY AND THE CAR DROVE NORMAL FOR ABOUT 20 MILES UNTIL THE SAME THING HAPPENED. IT APPEARS THAT SOMETHING IN THE COMPUTER BRAINS IS TELLING THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN. THIS HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES OVER WEEKEND AND THANKFULLY I WAS NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER. TODAY IS MAY 4, 2014 AND TOMORROW I PLAN TO TAKE THE CAR INTO FORD DEALERSHIP ON STERLING VIRGINIA. I HAVE READ RECENT COMPLAINTS FROM FORD ESCAPE OWNERS THAT MATCH EXACTLY MY PROBLEM. THE REAR WINDOW HAS TWO CLAMPS THAT ATTACH TO THE VEHICLE. THE CLAMPS ARE DETERIORATING AND CRUMBLING TO PIECES. I HAVE ALSO SEEN THIS ON OTHER FORD ESCAPES. WITH THE CLAMPS FALLING APART IT WILL ONLY BE A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THE REAR WINDOW WILL SHIFT OR FALL OFF. THIS SAME VEHICLE IS RUSTING ALSO. THE REAR HATCHBACK IS RUSTING OUT AND OTHER COMPONENTS. FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
DRIVING DOWN 40 WEST AT 65MPH WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, THE CAR DECREASED ALMOST TO A STOP, A LIGHT CAME ON THAT LOOKED LIKE A WRENCH , I HAD TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY, CAR WENT DEAD. I STARTED THE CAR UP, WE A FEW FEET IT DID IT AGAIN. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, TOOK THE KEY OUT WAITED 5 MINUTES, IT DID IT AGAIN. THEN A FOURTH TIME, STOPPED, WAITED 30 MINUTES AND IT DID IT AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS ON A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY AND CARS WERE HAVING TO SWERVE TO MISS ME AND I ENDED UP AGAINST THE WALL OF THE HIGHWAY. *JS
I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY IN AN UNDERGROUND PARKING GARAGE WHEN I HEARD A DOUBLE ALARM SOUND. I LOOKED AT THE DASHBOARD AND IT HAD A RED BRAKE SYMBOL AND TEXT THAT SAID CHECK BRAKES. I TRIED THEM AND THERE WAS NOTING THERE. I PROCEEDED VERY SONLY TO A SPOT AND PULLING AT A CRAWL. I PUMPED THE BRAKES MANY TIMES AND STOPPED THE CAR. AFTER A WHILE I STARTED IT AGAIN AND THERE WAS BRAKE WARNING - I DROVE IT VERY SLOWLY TO THE STREET AND CALLED FORD AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK. IT IS IN THE DEALERS NOW. THIS IS THE THIRD BRAKE FAILURE - I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFELY AND THAT OF PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER DRIVERS. *TR
WHEN I CLOSED MY HATCHBACK THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED AND GLASS FLEW EVERYWHERE. I HAD A COUPLE CUTS ON MY HANDS FROM THE GLASS FALLING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STARTED THRUSTING FORWARD. IT WAS ALMOST LIKE MY CAR HAD DIED AND WHEN I WOULD STEP ON THE GAS IT WOULDN'T WORK AND THERE WAS NO RPM'S. MY CAR WOULD JUST THRUST FORWARD AND COME TO A CRAWL. THEN WHEN I WOULD STOP MY CAR IT WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH. THE FIRST TIME I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND MY CAR HAD DIED AND I STOPPED TRAFFIC FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. WHEN I WOULD TURN MY CAR OFF AND RE-START IT WOULD FINALLY WORK. MY CAR NEVER POPPED A CODE UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY. WE RED THE CODE AND IT WAS P1111. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STUCK OPEN. THE PART THAT I NEED IS #9L8E-BC. MY CAR IS A 2010 AND LOW MILES. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND THE STABILIZATION FEATURE CAUSED THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRES TO DEFLATE. THE CONTACT APPLIED FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A GUARDRAIL AND FLIP OVER MORE THAN TWICE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, MOUTH, AND THE RIGHT EAR LOBE WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION MONTHS AFTER THE CRASH FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HOWEVER THE FAILURE OCCURRED BEFORE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS ABLE TO BE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,428.
CAR WOULD REDUCE SPEED ON ITS OWN NO WARNING,ALMOST GOT REARENDED AT A SPEED OF 55 DUE TO MY CAR LOSING SPEED EVEN HAS I WAS GIVING IT GAS. THE BACK HATCH WILL NOT OPEN. THERE'S NO CLICKING SOUND WHEN LOCKING OR UNLOCKING. THE WINDOW DOES OPEN AND CLOSE.
TRAVELING ON FREEWAY IN FORT WORTH AND CAR WENT INTO "LIMP MODE". WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON AS WELL AS THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS, WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND PROCEED APPROX. 4 MORE MILES BEFORE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. AT THIS POINT I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK OUT THE NEXT MORNING. *TR
ON DEC.31 AT APPROXIMATELY 2 P.M. I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON CITRUS AVE. I WAS GOING 55 MPH AND MY VEHICLE STARTED LOSING SPEED. I MOVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR IT RAN AS NORMAL. PRIOR TO THAT, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS UPON STARTING FROM A STOP I HAD NOTICED FASTER ACCELERATION THAN THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE I WAS APPLYING TO THE GAS PEDAL. *TR

I WAS ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE I-5 SOUTH IN CARLSBAD CA WHEN SUDDENLY THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THAT THE VEHICLE LOST ALL THROTTLE, PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL DOWN AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS IN THE THIRD LANE AND HAD TO COAST BACK TO AN ALMOST NON- EXISTENT SHOULDER AND WE WERE NEARLY STRUCK BY TWO VEHICLES IN THE PROCESS. I AM TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED, WE WERE RECENTLY THERE FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE "NO PROBLEMS". I DO NOT FEEL CONFIDENT OR SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND WILL NOT ALLOW MY WIFE AND CHILD TO RIDE AS PASSENGERS IN IT AGAIN. I AM PUTTING THE VEHICLE UP FOR SALE AND NOT GOING TO PURCHASE THE 2014 I HAD PLANNED TO BUY AS A SECOND CAR. ON 3/22/14 I PURCHASED A USED 2010 FORD ESCAPE AT ROUNTREE FORD IN SWANZEY NH. ON 3/23/14 I PARKED THE VEHICLE, LET MY DOGS OUT OF THE BACK CARGO AREA, WHEN I CLOSED THE TAILGATE THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES FOR NO APPARENT REASON. *TT
