THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED I WAS PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK AND MY CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING ON ICE. (IT WAS A CLEAR DAY) THE SECOND TIME I WAS GOING AROUND 40MPH AND ALL OF SUDDEN IT STARTED SLOWING DOWN ON IT'S ON TO ALMOST COMPLETELY STOPPING AND I TURNED INTO A DRIVEWAY TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THE WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON , ON THE DASHBOARD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON TO TURN AND AROUND AND DRIVE IT TO A SAFE LOCATION. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE THROTTLE BODY ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER SHE RECEIVED A LETTER REGARDING THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT DIDN'T THINK IT SOUNDED TOO SERIOUS. THE LETTER STATED ENGINE POWER AND VEHICLE SPEED WOULD BE REDUCED. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM ON MARCH 16, 2014. THE SPEED WAS NOT JUST REDUCED, BUT THE GAS PEDAL WAS INOPERABLE AND THE VEHICLE JUST COASTED TO A STOP, AS IF SHE HAD RUN OUT OF GAS. ALL THE WHILE, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, ALTHOUGH NOT SMOOTHLY AND ALL THE LIGHTS WERE IN WORKING ORDER. MINUTES LATER, THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. *JB
AFTER I CAME TO A STOP IN RESIDENTIAL AREA, I TRAVELED ABOUT 25 MPH AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE IN NEUTRAL, I WAS ABLE TO STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED WHEN I PUT MORE PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR, THIS WAS REALLY FRIGHTENING TO EXPERIENCE WITHOUT A WARNING, AND I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE, AT ABOUT 18 MONTHS AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT AND I BOUGHT THIS BRAND NEW TO AVOID ISSUES. *TR
DRIVING ON ONRAMP TO HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 30 MPH, ALARMS SOUNDED AND ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, AND SERVICE BRAKES WARNING CAME UP. ALARM SOUNDED ABOUT EVERY 5 MIN ON WAY TO DESTINATION. LOST BRAKES ALMOST COMPLETELY. HAD TO PRESS BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR FOR ANY STOPPING POWER. PROBLEM GOES AWAY AFTER RESTART OF ENGINE, BUT RETURNS WHEN DRIVING. SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED 6 MONTHS AGO AND DEALERSHIP REPLACED BRAKE PEDAL. WORKED FINE FOR 6 MONTHS, BUT NOW EXACTLY SAME THING OCCURRING. NOW SCARED TO DRIVE MY OWN CAR BECAUSE OF BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
THE STEERING AT FIRST START UP WILL NOT TURN AFTER RESTART WORKS WITH A SHAKE IN THE STEERING WHEEL AN AT STOP LIGHT. *TR
I BOUGHT THE CAR 6 MONTHS AGO. PARKED THE CAR ON FRIDAY NIGHT, CAME OUTSIDE TO START MY CAR AND DRIVE AND THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE QUOTING $1500 TO FIX. NOT COVERED BY FORD. CAN'T BELIEVE A NOT EVEN 4 YEAR OLD CAR IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM, AND SOUNDS LIKE SO MANY OTHERS ARE DEALING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL LIKE I GOT A LEMON. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE RECALLED. *TR
I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP.BWHIND A VEHICLE AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN I RELEASED THE GAS, MY VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. FRON THAT DAY FORWARD, MY VEHICLE HAD FREQUENTLY SURGED FORWARD OR REVED UP QHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP. NOW, MY VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING WITH NO WARNING. THE ONLY LIGHT I SEE IS THE WRENCH LIGHT AND THAT'S ONLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS ROLLING TO A STOP AFTER SHUTTING OFF.
THIS WAS NOT A CAR INCIDENT OR ACCIDENT OF ANY SORT. I DRIVE A 2010 FORD ESCAPE AND LAST WEEK I NOTICED MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OUT, SO I BOUGHT THE BULBS AND ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE MY LIGHTS. THE PROBLEM WASN'T BURNT OUT BULBS IT WAS MELTED BULBS AND THE PIECE WHERE THE BULBS SIT, HAVE ALSO MELTED AND IT NOW MANGLED. I TOOK PHOTOS FOR PROOF, BUT I DON'T KNOW THAT THE PIECE WILL FIT BACK IN. *TR
THE FUEL CANISTER ON THE 2010 FORD ESCAPE WILL BACKUP AND CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND RELEASE GAS FUMES AND COULD BE A POTENTIAL CALLS FOR A FIRE AND WHEN IT DOES THIS IT WILL RELEASE STRONG GAS SMELL. THIS WILL BE THE 2ND ONE ON THIS VEHICLE
VEHICLE LOSES POWER WHILE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. IT STALLS OUT AND WHEN YOU MAKE A TURN IT CUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. IT SURGES WHILE TRAVELING. *TR
MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE WAS PARKED. I OPEN HATCH, CLOSED IT AND THE ENTIRE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED AND FELL OUT! *TR
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 35MPH WHEN MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT. I HAD TO USE EXTREME FORCE TO MANEUVER MY VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED IT OFF, WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES, AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. THE POWER STEERING WORKED FOR ABOUT 1 MILE, AT WHICH TIME I LOST MY POWER STEERING. I WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE A TURN ON A ROUNDABOUT AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS SO DIFFICULT TO STEER. *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT A CVS PHARMACY, ABOUT TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK WHEN IT SURGED FORWARD AND INTO THE DOORS OF THE STORE. I WAS NOT INJURED BUT MORTIFIED THAT I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE. WHEN I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO FIVE STAR FORD IN PLANO, TX. TODAY, I HAD MY STATE INSPECTION YESTERDAY AND ASKED IF THEY COULD PULL UP THE TROUBLE CODES ON MY COMPUTER. THE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE SHOP'S COMPUTER COULDN'T BUT HE HAD HIS OWN CODE READER THAT WOULD SHOW THE COMPLETE RECORD. HE DID AND TOLD ME IT WAS ERASED AND THERE WAS NOTHING ON IT. FIVE STAR FORD IN PLANO IS THE ONLY PLACE MY CAR HAS BEEN TO THAT COULD POSSIBLY DO THIS SINCE THE ACCIDENT. I ASKED THEM AT THAT TIME IF I COULD GET A TRANSCRIPT FROM THE COMPUTER BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND BECAME HARD TO TURN. THE CONTACT DROVE VERY SLOWLY TO BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE ENGINE WENT INTO A LOW POWER MODE AND THROTTLE WAS UN RESPONSIVE, I HAD TO CRUISE TO A STOP AND RESTART THEN IT SEEMS OK BUT I NOTICE THE THROTTLE WILL SPEED UP AND SLOW DOWN WHEN I HAD TO RUN THRU A SCHOOL ZONE(LOW SPEED) IT ALSO HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AFTER THAT MOST RECENTLY ON 4/21/14 ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH AND I HAD TO DRIFT TO THE SHOULDER TO RESTART THE CAR WHILE OTHERS HONKED AND VEERED AROUND ME I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THESE. I DID GET A LETTER CALLED THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03 THAT STATES THE PROBLEM- THROTTLE BODY- IS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT ONLY IF THE WRENCH LIGHT IS ON AND MINE STAYS ON ONLY WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM IF THERE IS ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY JUST TO GET IT DIAGNOSED. I AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH FORDS ATTEMPT AT THIS (SOFT) RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VENT CONTROLS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO USE THE AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING FUNCTION. YEARS BEFORE, THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND THE IC MODULE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR AND BLOWER MOTOR FAILED. THE CONTACT LATER EXPERIENCED AN EXTREMELY STRONG VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT FLASHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE DEALER REPLACED THE PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,411.
PARKED THE VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY. OPENED THE REAR WINDOW TO GET AN ITEM FROM THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE. CLOSED THE WINDOW, AND THE WINDOW EXPLODED AND THE GLASS SHATTERED INTO SMALL PIECES INSIDE MY VEHICLE AND ALL OVER MY DRIVEWAY. MOST OF THE GLASSES REMAIN INTACT ON THE WINDOW BUT WAS ONLY BARELY HANGING. THE SHATTERED PIECES CAME MAINLY FROM BOTH SIDES. IT HAPPENED AROUND 5:20PM AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 30 DEGREE. *TR
FIRST EVENT, 1/24/14: LOST ALL BUT 2% POWER (SURGED ALONG AT ~3MPH) WITH SEVERAL FLASHING LIGHTS IN DASH, VEHICLE LIMPED ONTO DRIVEWAY. RESTORED POWER BY RESTARTING VEHICLE A FEW TIMES, WARNING LITES OUT. SECOND EVENT, LATER SAME DAY: LOST ALL BUT 2% POWER IN OKC AT 70MPH AND LUCKILY WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AT THE TIME, LIMPED TO SHOULDER. I MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCKY NEXT TIME, THIS FORD PROBLEM IS A LIFE THREATENING HAZARD. CALLED FORD AFTER RECEIVING 13N03 LETTER IN LATE JANUARY. 2/3/14 WAS INFORMED IF I CALLED CUSTOMER RELATIONS NUMBER THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO PUT A COMMENT AGAINST MY VIN SO A DEALER WOULD BE ABLE TO FIX AT FORD COST. NO ECM CODES, MY COST. CONVERSATION WAS HELD WITH SERVICE MANAGER [XXX] AT AUTONATION OF SOUTH FORT WORTH. THIRD EVENT: 4/23/14: LOST ALL BUT 2% POWER WITH ONLY THE WRENCH LIGHT FLASHING, RESTARTED VEHICLE AND LIGHT WENT OUT, POWER RESTORED - CHECKED ECM CODES AND THE CODE DID NOT STORE ON THE COMPUTER. WHY? CALLED 4/23 CUSTOMER RELATIONS NUMBER 800-392-3673 1-5-4 ATTEMPTING RESOLUTION. TALKED TO [XXX] WHO IN TURN TALKED TO [XXX], SERVICE PERSON AT AUTONATION OF SOUTH FORT WORTH. BUT SINCE THE CODE IS NOT RECORDED FORD WILL NOT FIND AN ISSUE - ALL COSTS WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY. SO I AM LEFT WITH A DAILY DRIVER VEHICLE WITH A POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIFE - SAFETY HAZARD. I DRIVE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THIS IS A DANGER TO MYSELF, OCCUPANTS AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. BOTH [XXX] AND [XXX] DENIED ANYONE AT FORD CAN ADD COMMENTS TO VIN FOR PARTS REPLACED AND I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COST OF DIAGNOSIS OF THE ISSUE AND FOLLOW ON REPAIR WITH NO CODES. I TOLD [XXX] THAT MY DRIVING IS SOMETIMES IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING HAZARD, I ALSO REMINDED HER THIS CONVERSATION IS BEING RECORDED IN FORDS DATABASE. WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH ON ROAD. I LOST ALL POWER TO GAS PEDAL THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PUT CAR IN PARK SHUT CAR OFF .WAITED A FEW MINUTES AN STARTED CAR UP. IT RAN THIS HAPPENS 2 OR 3 TIMES ON THE SAME DAY THEN IT MIGHT NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR A WEEK OR TWO THIS A ONGOING PROBLEM THAT FORD SHOULD PLACE A SAFETY RECALL NOT ON SOFT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM#13NO3 THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN ALMOST ALL OF THE POWER FROM THE ENGINE WAS LOST. ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT AN IDLE. WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE/GAS PEDAL. I MANAGED TO GET IT TO LIMP CLOSE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GET IT TOWED THE REST OF THE WAY. HAPPENED JUST TODAY AND THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID THAT IT IS INDEED THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER MY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AND THEY ARE REPLACING IT FOR A COST OF ROUGHLY $450. *TR
UPON CLOSING THE REAR HATCH OF THE 2010 FORD ESCAPE, THE REAR LIFT-GATE GLASS SHATTERED. GLASS POURED INTO THE VEHICLE, ONTO THE GROUND, ONTO OTHER OWNERS' PERSONAL PROPERTY, AND OVER THE PERSON WHO CLOSED THE REAR HATCH. WHILE NO INJURY WAS CAUSED AS THE OPERATOR WAS DRESSED FOR COLD WEATHER, THERE SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE BOTH TO THE END USER AND OTHERS WHO MAY BE AROUND THE PLACE WHERE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. IN ADDITION TO THE LOSS OF TIME AND HASSLE OF CLEANING BROKEN GLASS FROM PERSONAL PROPERTY AS WELL AS THE PERSONAL PROPERTY OF OTHERS, THE MISSING GLASS IN EFFECT MAKES THE VEHICLE LESS SAFE TO OPERATE UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS WITH NO REAR PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS. PERSONAL AUTO INSURANCE HAS COVERED THE LOSS. THOUGH UNTIL THE REPAIRS CAN BE COMPLETED THERE WILL BE AN INCREASED RISK TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. FURTHERMORE, THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A RESOLUTION TO PREVENT THE INCIDENT FROM RECURRING. *TR
WAS DRIVING LOST ALL POWER AT FIRST THEN WAS ABLE TO MOVE AT 2 MPH WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS FULLY DEPRESSED, CAR STARTED TO SHAKE. HEARD LOUD POP THEN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DASH. I WAS ABLE TO CREEP ALONG TO GET OUT OF MOVING TRAFFIC. DROVE AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD UNTIL I TRIED TO GET INTO A PARKING AREA WHICH REQUIRED ME TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WITH TRAFFIC COMING WAITED AND WAITED THEN FROM A COMPLETE STOP I MAKE THE TURN INTO THE LOT WHICH HAS A SLIGHT INCLINE I WAS FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL STILL WITH OUT ANY POWER OF MORE THAN 2 MPH WORRIED I WOULD SLIP BACK INTO MOVING TRAFFIC. PARKED CALLED A TOW TRUCK. TURNED OFF ENGINE WENT INTO WORK. CAME BACK OUT OF WORK RESTARTED CAR NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND EVERYTHING SEEM TO WORK FINE AFTER THAT. FRIGHTENED I COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT FOR OTHER AND MYSELF. *TR
I WAS STOPPED, WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND MID-TURN, THE CAR TURNED OFF. FORTUNATELY, THERE WASN'T ANY TRAFFIC APPROACHING MY CAR OR THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
LOST POWER STEERING - WAS HARD TO MANEUVER VEHICLE OUT OF ROADWAY. SERIOUS TRAFFIC HAZARD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HAPPENS OUT OF THE BLUE AND THERE IS NO WARNING THAT LOSS OF POWER STEERING IS GOING TO OCCUR. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. HOWEVER, THIS HAS HAPPENED PRIOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY RECALLS REGARDING THIS ISSUE? *TR
THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING. YOU CAN TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON AND IT WORKS FOR A WHILE. I TOOK IT TO A FORD SERVICE DEPT. SAID IT WOULD COST AROUND $1500.00 TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY FREQUENT PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEBODY, IF NOT ALREADY, IS KILLED. *TR
I OWN A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH UP A SLIGHT INCLINE ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT 6:30 AM IN THE DARK WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE JERKED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. WHILE ON THE DECLINE OF THE ROAD I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO THE FIRST LANE AND INTO A BREAK DOWN LANE AND INTO A PARKING LOT AT A VERY SLOW RATE OF SPEED BECAUSE ONCE YOU APPLIED THE BRAKES AND SLOWED DOWN YOU COULD NOT REGAIN ANY SPEED. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITHOUT FAILURE WITHIN A FEW MINTUES BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RUNNING RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE SERPENTINE BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE DEALER. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL ISSUE FOR FORD. I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT MULTIPLE TIMES ON RTE 1 TRYING TO GET MY VEHICLE OVER TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS HAPPENED AT ABOUT 10:30 A.M. I HAD REMOVED SOME ITEMS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND THEN SHUT THE REAR TAILGATE. THE REAR TAILGATE GLASS HAD NOT BE OPENED AND WAS CLOSED AS USUAL ON THE LIFTGATE. THE LIFTGATE WAS CLOSED IN THE NORMAL FASHION. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF WALKING AWAY FROM THE CAR AFTER CLOSING THE TAILGATE WHEN THE REAR TAILGATE GLASS EXPLODED. NOTHING HAD STRUCK THE GLASS FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE TO CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. I RECEIVED SOME MINOR SCRATCHES ON MY HAND. THE GLASS EXPLODED AS FAR AS 6-8' BEHIND AND TO THE SIDES OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS ALL OVER THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY VEHICLE LOST POWER, IT DID NOT STALL, IT SLOWED TO ALMOST NO SPEED. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURNED IT BACK ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR ABOUT 3 MORE MILES UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT TOOK ME THREE TIME OF TURNING ON AND OFF THE ENGINE WITHIN A BLOCK FROM MY HOUSE. FINALLY I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO MY DRIVE WAY. I TOOK INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT LIT UP ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL AND I LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP ON 1/10/14 WHERE THE MECHANICS DIAGNOSED A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. *TR
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY USING CRUISE CONTROL SETTING AT 65 MPH, WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND STALL ON ME. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING AND I COULD NOT GIVE IT POWER TO STAY WITH TRAFFIC SPEED. I GOT TO THE SIDE PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND IT STILL WAS SHAKEN SO I TURNED IT OFF. I THEN WAITED A MINUTE OR SO AND STARTED THE VEHICLE BACK UP EVEN THOUGH IT WAS HESITATING TO START. ONCE BACK ON I DROVE WITH MY HAZARD ON AT A SPEED OF 50 MPH. *TR
VEHICLE'S ENGINE CUTS OUT AND I LOSE CONTROL. IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND ONE TIME THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN THREE TIMES DURING A SHORT TRIP OF TEN MILES. I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY OFF AND START THE ENGINE AGAIN. FORTUNATELY WE DON'T TRAVEL VERY FAST HERE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE MY ESCAPE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SLOWED TO AROUND 5 MPH. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER, PLACED THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT IT OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, THEN STARTED IT AND CONTINUED ON MY WAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES SINCE, BOTH WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH IN TOWN. I FOLLOWED THE SAME PROCEDURE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON MY WAY. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY, AS I HAVE CONSULTED MY LOCAL MECHANIC. HE CONFIRMED THAT HE HAS SEEN A FEW ESCAPES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON MY DASHBOARD. MY CAR STARTED TO COAST TO A STOP. I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN MY SPEED. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY AS MY CAR CAME TO A STOP. THE ELECTRICAL WAS STILL WORKING. I TURNED OFF MY CAR AND WAITED. I PLACED SEVERAL CALLS AND FOUND OUT HOW TO RESET. I TURNED THE KEY, WITHOUT TURNING THE ENGINE, PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL THREE TIMES, AND TURNED THE CAR FULLY OFF. I THEN TURNED THE CAR ON, AND THE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON. IT NOW SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL RETURN AND COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN ON INTERSTATE OR ON A CROWDED STREET, AND I MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. *TR
STARTED CAR, TURNED ON REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER, OPENED HATCH, CLOSED HATCH. REAR WINDOW SHATTERED. OVER THE PHONE, FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE ADMITTED THERE IS A FLAW IN DESIGN BUT SUBJECT TO NO RECALL. HAD TO FILE INSURANCE CLAIM AND DEDUCTIBLE WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY.
THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THE ENGINE HAS STALLED. FIRST TIME WAS OCT. 31ST, 2013. DRIVING IN RESIDENTIAL STREET AND ACCELERATION DECREASES, CAR SHUTTERS, AND WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON ALONG WITH OTHER INDICATORS. COASTS TO SIDE OF ROAD. AFTER ABOUT 2-3 MINUTES, STARTS UP AND ABLE TO DRIVE HOME (APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES). *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG A ROAD AND SUDDENLY MY CAR JOLTED AND ALMOST ALL OF MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS LIT UP. THE ENGINE WAS ON, BUT NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR DOWN AND NOTHING, STILL. AS I WAS PULLING OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE CAR DIED. I WAITED FIVE MINUTES AND THE ENGINE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS HAD HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE, BUT NOTHING AS SEVERE. *TR
MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE BEGAN STALLING OUT FROM A STOPPED POSITION AROUND THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY. THIS WAS AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND COMING TO A STOP AT THE EXIT RAMP LIGHT. THIS HAS, THUS FAR, OCCURRED TWICE OFF THE HIGHWAY. (AND ONCE IN A VERY QUICK, CROWDED, DANGEROUS OFF RAMP INTERSECTION.) OTHER INCIDENTS INCLUDE MULTIPLE TIMES STALLING FROM A COMPLETE STOP AFTER DRIVING A PERIOD OF TIME (APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MINUTES), AND MULTIPLE TIMES STALLING OUT AT APPROXIMATELY 3-5 MPH WHILE IN A PARKING LOT. I NOW HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL WHILE IDLING AT A LIGHT. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT THE ESCAPE IS SURGING WHEN SLOWING BEFORE A STOP. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN THE BEGINNING OF JANUARY 2014 AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY INCREASED. *TR
8 AM REMOVING PACKAGES FROM REAR OF ESCAPE. UPON SIMPLY CLOSING THE HATCH DOOR, THE GLASS SHATTERED TO BITS. I HAVE OPENED AND CLOSED THAT HATCH DOOR DOZENS OF TIMES. IT CLOSES WELL . NO NEED TO SLAM. SHOCKS BALANCE WELL. I CHECKED THE WEB AND FOUND MANY SIMILAR OCCURRENCES. I IMMEDIATELY RECORDED (CAMERA) THE AFTERMATH WITH THE HOPES THAT FORD MAY COME TO THE PUMP. I HAD THE CAR FIXED AT THE DEALER $1200 OUT OF POCKET. FORD CANADA WILL NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE NHTSA #10039131 TSB 10-22-10 PER PHONE CALL TO FORD HELP LINE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
I'VE HAD 2 INSTANCES OF LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST ON MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT FOR MY HUSBAND TO TURN. HE SLOWED THE CAR DOWN, TURNED ON THE HAZARDS, AND PULLED OVER. THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND STARTED AGAIN. POWER ASSIST WORKED AGAIN AT START-UP. OUR THREE CHILDREN AND I WERE ALSO IN THE CAR, AND I'M SURPRISED WE WERE NOT REAR-ENDED. THE SECOND INSTANCE WAS WHEN I WAS IN LINE AT A DRIVE-THROUGH. I COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL WHEN PULLING FORWARD. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED. POWER ASSIST WORKED AT START-UP. I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP, WHO WAS VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND QUOTED ME $1100-1400 REPAIRS. CAR WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE ISSUES AS A FAULTY POWER ASSIST MOTOR. REPLACEMENT WAS QUOTED AT $1400. I COMMUTE 50 MILES ROUND TRIP EVERY DAY. I AM VERY WORRIED OF THE STEERING ASSIST FAILING ON THE HIGHWAY OR WHILE MY CHILDREN ARE IN THE CAR AGAIN. FAILURE OCCURRED AT 75,000 MILES. *TR
ON DEC 24TH WE WERE LOADING UP GIFTS INTO OUR TRUNK. I CLOSED THE TRUNK BOOM THE BACK REAR WINDOW BLEW OUT. NOW IT WILL COST ME CLOSE TO 500$ TO FIX THIS SHOULD OF NEVER HAPPENED. I KNOW MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE ABOUT THIS. THANKS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON SURFACE STREETS THE "WRENCH" INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I GOT TO A PARKING LOT AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT AND ALL SEEMED OK. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 6-7 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE A REPEAT OF THE PROBLEM HAPPENED. I AGAIN SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER RESTARTING, I DROVE FOR ANOTHER 6-7 MILES AND HAD THE CAR AGAIN GO INTO LIMP MODE. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. THE NEXT DAY ALL LIGHTS WERE OFF AND HAVE STAYED OFF SINCE THEN. I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT ON JAN 2, 2014. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION AND SHOULD BE LOOKED AT VERY CLOSELY BY THE NHTSA. *TR

IN ADDITION, FUEL WAS LEAKING INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER CAUSED BY A PURGED SOLENOID. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,456.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND THE GAS PEDAL NO LONGER CONTROLLED THE SPEED. STEERING AND BRAKES WERE UNAFFECTED. A WRENCH DISPLAY APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER COASTING TO A STOP, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. EVERYTHING FUNCTIONED PROPERLY AND THE WRENCH DISAPPEARED FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP 2 DAYS LATER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. *TR

I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON HWY 53, DOING 55 MPH WHEN THE CAR JUMPED OUT OF GEAR. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AT IDLESPEED, BUT WHEN I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL NOTHING HAPPENED. ALSO THE WRENCH LIGHT AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WHERE BOTH ON. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID TRAFFIC AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I WAITED A MINUTE AND IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP WITH ONLY THE ENGINE LIGHT ON. THIS WAS THE 5TH TIME THIS HAPPENED IN 2 DAYS AND WAS THE SAME EACH TIME. I DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER WHERE I HAD BOUGHT IT AND THEY DID A CHECK AND RETRIEVED P2111 IN KOEC, THEN PERFORMED ETB INTERNAL IDS PINPOINT TEST. ETB OR THROTTLE BODY FAILED TEST. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASY, WHICH IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, AND CHARGED ME $432.65. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THIS AT NO COST, SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT 35-40 MPH, IN TRAFFIC, AND THE GAS PEDAL COMPLETELY QUIT! AND A LITTLE YELLOW WRENCH SHOWED UP ON MY DASHBOARD. NO OTHER LIGHTS SHOWED UP. A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE GAS PEDAL ENSUED. I HAD TO COAST THROUGH TRAFFIC TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I FOUND THAT IF I TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED CAR, THE "WRENCH" WENT AWAY AND I HAD POWER UNTIL THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENED. MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS "LIMP MODE." I TOOK IT INTO DEALER BUT THEY COULD NOT GET THE "CODE" TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. OVER TWO WEEKS THIS BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND AFTER THE 4TH TIME, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. THEY FINALLY COULD GET THE CODE AND IT WAS A TOTAL THROTTLE BODY FAILURE! I STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR AND AM WAITING FOR THE PART. AT THIS TIME, I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR REPAIR ON MONDAY, DEC 30TH. THIS REPAIR WILL COST ME APPROX $200-$400 DOLLARS! I'M VERY UPSET, OF COURSE, BUT THANKFUL THAT THIS DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I AM 64 YEARS OLD AND A SINGLE WOMAN! *TR

STILL ON A FEW DAYS LATER SO I WENT TO AUTO ZONE FOR THE FREE TEST. THEY TOLD ME IT COULD BE EITHER THE GAS CAP, WHICH IT DOESN'T COME WITH, OR A LEAK. VAK LEAK SYSTEM.
