WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN. AFTER COMING TO A STOP, WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. TOOK THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BEING THE THROTTLE BODY PLATE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE VEHICLES BUT FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT WE FEEL SHOULD BE PAID BY FORD. *TR
I WAS ACCELERATING INTO TRAFFIC WHEN, ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD, BEGAN TO RAPIDLY LOSE SPEED, AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE--EVEN WITH THE GAS PEDAL PUSHED TO THE FLOOR. SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE LOWER LEFT-HAND SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY CROSS OVER TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC AND PULL TO A SIDE STREET, AT WHICH TIME, MY CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. A SEARCH OF MY OWNER'S MANUAL REVEALED THAT THE WRENCH LIGHT INDICATED A POWERTRAIN OR THROTTLE FAILURE. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE CAR TOWED IN FOR INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A BURNED OUT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AS A RESULT OF A FAULTY VAPOR LOCK CAP. A DAY LATER, THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FAULTY VAPOR LOCK COMPONENT AT A COST OF OVER $700. NEITHER PART WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. INTERESTINGLY, I WENT BACK THROUGH MY SERVICE RECORDS AND NOTED THAT IN DECEMBER OF 2012, I STATED TO A LOCAL FORD SERVICE MANAGER THAT MY CAR WAS SLUGGISH AND WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATE THROUGH TURNS. THE SERVICE TECH COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SO NOTHING WAS DONE ASIDE FROM CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY AND FUEL SYSTEM. IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING OCCASIONAL "HITCHES" OR LAG TIMES IN ACCELERATION WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, BE AWARE THAT THESE ARE HALLMARKS OF A FAILING THROTTLE BODY AND IT MAY BE TIME TO TAKE YOUR VEHICLE IN AND HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY AND VAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEM EXAMINED. IT'S TIME TO ISSUE A RECALL, FORD. *TR
IT IS MOST LIKELY THE THROTTLE BODY OF THIS VEHICLE IT DRIVES NORMAL THAN CUTS OFF IN TRAFFIC, RESTARTS DRIVES NORMAL, AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT CUTS OFF AGAIN, EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT AN INCIDENT MAY OCCUR. *TR
BACKED OUT OF PARKING SPACE, WRENCH LIT ON DASH, NO THROTTLE CONTROL, ERRATIC IDLE. PLACED IN PARK, SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED, LIGHT WENT OFF. DRIVE 5 MINUTES, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, NO THROTTLE CONTROL. ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED. AGAIN PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED, MADE IT HOME. VERY DANGEROUS LOOSING POWER LIKE THAT WITH NO WARNING, SOME SAY ITS THE THROTTLE BODY, OTHERS THE ELECTRONIC GAS PEDAL. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I DON'T WANT TO THROW MONEY AT PARTS. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS. *TR
I WAS TAKING THE WIFE HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL AFTER SHE HAD SURGERY AND THE CAR STALLED ON ME WHILE I WAS PULLING OUT INTO A BUSY HIGHWAY AND WE WERE NEARLY HIT. ON THE WAY HOME THE CAR STALLED AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE NUMEROUS TIMES AND WE HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. THE CULPRIT WAS A MALFUNCTIONING THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WHICH THE DEALER TOLD ME WAS VERY COMMON. I CANT BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ON THIS AS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE CAR JUST STALLS AT RANDOM MOMENTS AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET GOING AGAIN IS TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURN IT OFF, AND START IT BACK UP. THE REPAIR BILL WAS $535.29 + TOWING COSTS. *TR
BACKED OUT OF PARKING SPACE, WRENCH LIT ON DASH, NO THROTTLE CONTROL, ERRATIC IDLE. HAVE A CODE SCANNER, IT READ P2111. PLACED IN PARK, SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED, LIGHT WENT OFF. DRIVE 5 MINUTES, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, NO THROTTLE CONTROL, ERRATIC IDLE, CODES P2111, P2112. ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED. AGAIN PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED, MADE IT HOME. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BEFORE THIS IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. VERY DANGEROUS LOOSING POWER LIKE THAT WITH NO WARNING, I'M AFRAID TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE, SHE IS ON THE FREEWAY MORE. I'M LUCKY TO BE ON LESS TRAVELED SIDE ROADS WHERE I CAN PULL OVER TO SHOULDER TO RESTART VEHICLE. SOME SAY ITS THE THROTTLE BODY, OTHERS THE ELECTRONIC GAS PEDAL. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I DON'T WANT TO THROW MONEY AT PARTS. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS. *TR
WHILE MAKING A LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION THE ENGINE CUT TO IDLE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AFTER PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND STARTED AGAIN AND RAN OK. THE CAR WAS TAKE TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. WE WERE TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD. I WAS ALSO TOLD THEY GO BAD A LOT AND THEY NOT COVERED BY THE ENGINE WARRANTY. TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AT THE TIME IF IT WAS HEAVY THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES IN THE PAST WERE THE CAR HESITATED BADLY FROM A STOP. *TR
THROTTLE BODY REPLACED ON 10/16/2013. MERGING ONTO INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDEN DOWN SHIFT AND ENGINE REV OCCURRED. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN NEEDED AND PULLED ONTO SAFETY LANE.. TURNED ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED, SAME THING OCCURRED WITH ACCELERATION AT 60 MPH AND HIGHER. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE CAR SLOWS DOWN DRAMATICALLY AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WILL STALL, OR DROP TO ABOUT 800-900 RPM WITH NO RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THE "WRENCH" WILL COME ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, AND THE VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES STALL/KILL ALTOGETHER. WE HAVE HAD THE CODES PULLED BY A TECHNICIAN, AND THEY SAY THAT THE "THROTTLE BODY IS STUCK OPEN", "THE THROTTLE BODY IS STUCK CLOSED", AND THERE IS ONE MORE BUT I CANNOT RECALL IT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD. I HAVE CALLED FORD AND THEY HAVE SAID THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE A KNOWN ISSUE, NOR IS THIS A FAMILIAR PROBLEM PER THE SYMPTOMS. I HAVE LIKEWISE DONE AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS, AND AN NHTSA INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED. PLEASE ADVISE THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SECURITY CONCERN FOR ME - YESTERDAY I WAS TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE OF A MAJOR FREEWAY, AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, WHEN MY VEHICLE SEEMINGLY STALLED, DROPPED TO 800 RPMS, AND I HAD TO CROSS 3 LANES OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER TO SHUT MY CAR OFF, PUT IT IN PARK, THEN START IT BACK UP AND MERGE BACK INTO TRAFFIC, THEN HAVE IT REPEAT THE PROBLEM LESS THAN A MILE LATER. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM, AND IF NOT FULLY ADDRESSED BY FORD, MY FEAR IS IT IS GOING TO CAUSE ACCIDENTS IF IT HASN'T ALREADY. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR FOLLOW-UP AND SUPPORT. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY, AT ABOUT 65 MPH THERE WAS AN ENGINE SHUDDER, THEN THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON LEFT SIDE OF CONSOLE. ENGINE WAS NOW VIBRATING AND SHAKY. STEPPED ON GAS AND NO ACCELERATION, ALTHOUGH ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL ITEMS WERE RUNNING. WITH THE FORWARD MOMENTUM I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY, CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND IN THE PROCESS, I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THE AGENT ON THE PHONE ASKED FOR THE MILEAGE OF VEHICLE AND I TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AGAIN. THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED NORMAL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE NEXT EXIT AND GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND SAFELY HOME. THE VEHICLE HAS DISPLAYED NO FURTHER ISSUES SINCE THEN. THIS VEHICLE HAD JUST BEEN IN FOR NORMAL SERVICE THE DAY PRIOR, SATURDAY. AFTER DOING FURTHER RESEARCH ONLINE IT WAS FOUND THIS BRAND OF VEHICLE HAD A REPORTED PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE MANIFOLD INTAKE. *TR
ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 13, 2013 I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE WRENCH ICON ILLUMINATED AND MY CAR STARTED BUCKING AND CAME TO A STOP. THE ENGINE DIDN'T SHUT DOWN, BUT IDLED ERRATICALLY WITH NO ACCELERATOR RESPONSE. I COASTED ONTO A SHOULDER WHERE I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING UNTIL THE WRENCH ICON ILLUMINATED AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE AND I AM CURRENTLY SITTING IN A CARSON CITY, NV FORD DEALERSHIP (OCTOBER 17, 2013) WHERE THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD. I SHOWED THEM THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION AND THEY SAID THEY WOULDN'T COVER IT BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUT OF MY SUBDIVISION, MY FORD ESCAPE LOST ALL POWER. THE ENGINE WAS SURGING BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT, BUT THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST REVEALED A FAILED THROTTLE BODY. EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE IS SLIGHTLY UNDER THE 5 YR/60,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, THE DEALERSHIP IS INSISTING ON USING MY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THE PART WHICH WILL COST ME $100 DEDUCTIBLE AND I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MOST OF THE COST OF MY RENTAL VEHICLE (EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY ONLY PAYS RENTAL CAR FOR LABOR HOURS ON VEHICLE REPAIRS, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE PULLED IN FOR REPAIR FOR SEVERAL DAYS). *TR
I WAS DRIVING FROM VIRGINIA TOWARDS THE DELAWARE BEACHES. AFTER CROSSING THE BAY BRIDGE IN MARYLAND ON ROUTE 50 ... DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE TRAVELING 55MPH, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND BEGAN LOSING SPEED. I HAD TO PULL ALL THE WAY OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE LOSING POWER AS EACH SECOND PASSED. I WAS ABLE TO COAST ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER GETTING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP .. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED A THROTTLE BODY .. I'M HERE AT THE DEALERSHIP NOW .. AND THE PART IS WELL OVER $400 .. HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE BILL YET.. BUT MY GUESS, WITH LABOR BETWEEN $500-$600! THIS IS RIDICULOUS AS THE CAR IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD! PLEASE MAKE FORD RECALL THIS PART - THROTTLE BODY - AS IT SEEMS UNFAIR TO HAVE SUCH A HIGH COST REPAIR AFTER 3YEARS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE -- THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP! THIS IS A SAFETY RISK -- SOMEONE COULD HAVE DIED IN THIS PROCESS ..AS THIS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY -- PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING, AND SAVE FUTURE LIVES.. THANK YOU! *TR
TRAVELING ON I 64 EAST TOWARD RICHMOND IN THE LEFT LANE AT APPROX 70 MPH IN VERY HEAVY, FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY BEGIN TO LOSE ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE WRENCH ICON CAME ON, AND THE VEHICLE WAS RAPIDLY SLOWING; DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR HAD NO EFFECT. THERE WAS NO LEFT SHOULDER, AND I HAD DIFFICULTY IN MANEUVERING TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE DUE TO TRAFFIC. THIS WAS QUIET ALARMING. I CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE. AFTER RESEARCHING ON INTERNET FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES, I STARTED THE CAR, CANCELLED THE TOW TRUCK AND CONTINUED. IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND WILL BECOME INCREASINGLY MORE FREQUENT ON MY AUTOMOBILE. IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
HAD A CAR FULL OF FAMILY WHILE I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL AT ABOUT 35MPH WHEN THE CAR THRUSTED FORWARD THEN FELT LIKE IT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. I HAD TO COAST INTO SOMEONE'S DRIVEWAY AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
MY FAMILY WAS TRAVELING 75-80 MPH ALONG I-95 ON THE WAY HOME FRIDAY NIGHT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL THE LIGHTS FLASHED ON THE DASH AND POWER GAVE OUT. WE QUICKLY MOVED INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE (WE WERE LUCKY WE WERE ABLE TO GET OVER CONSIDERING WE HAD AN 18 WHEELER BEHIND US) AND CAME TO A STOP. WHEN WE PUT THE CAR IN PARK THE DASH LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE POWER CAME BACK. WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THE CAR UP TO SPEED THEREFORE WE DROVE THE EMERGENCY LANE UNTIL THE NEXT EXIT WHERE WE COULD GET ON 301 UNTIL WE GOT HOME. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE WE BROUGHT THE CAR THE NEXT MORNING AND MY CAR IS STILL THERE TODAY (TUESDAY). I'VE READ HOW FORD DOESN'T THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.. BUT LET ME TELL YOU, NOT ONLY MYSELF AND HUSBAND BUT HAVING MY 1 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK AND DRIVING 75 MPH AND THEN WITH NO WARNING THE POWER GIVES OUT IT DEFINITELY IS! *TR
OCCASSIONALLY, WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES, USUALLY BETWEEN 0-50 MPH, THE GAS PEDAL LOCKS, THE ENGINE STALLS, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS. THE VEHICLE MUST THEN BE PLACED INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF. WHEN TURNED BACK ON, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARS AND THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONS NORMALLY. THIS HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES IN THREE MONTHS, ONCE WHILE MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY AND TWICE WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. FORD SERVICE EXPLAINED THIS COULD BE DUE TO A FAILED THROTTLE BODY PART. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESUME FUNCTIONING PROPERLY FOR A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN THE SAME THING WOULD OCCUR ONCE AGAIN. LUCKILY, THESE EVENTS OCCURRED ON SIDE ROADS AND NOT THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE. I WOULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE EVEN TO THE DEALER AFTER THE INCIDENTS. IT IS APPALLING THAT A PREVALENT INCIDENT IS NOT BEING TAKEN CARE OF BY THE DEALER. SAFETY OF CUSTOMERS KEEPS CUSTOMERS ALIVE TO BE CONSUMERS. *TR
STOPPED AT A LIGHT. WHEN IT TURNED GREEN, TURNED RIGHT, AS I WAS GOING AROUND THE CORNER THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND CORRECTLY. IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT. WITH IT IN PARK, TRIED PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT DID NOT RESPOND AT ALL. WHEN I TRIED BACKING UP IT LUNGED BACKWARDS. SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WALKED HOME. LUCKILY I DIDN'T LIVE FAR FROM WHERE THIS HAPPENED. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CAME UP AND IMMEDIATELY SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND TURNING THE CAR OFF WOULD RESET IT SO IT'S DRIVABLE FOR A WEEK OR SO. HAD THEM REPLACE THE PART SO THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN ON AN INTERSTATE OR OUT OF TOWN! SOUNDS LIKE A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM! ALSO FOUND OUT THAT OUR CAR WAS JUST PAST THE WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN MANY DOCUMENTED CASES OF THIS HAPPENING THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART. FORD, IN FACT, COULDN'T KEEP UP WITH DEMAND FOR REPLACING THIS PART EARLIER THIS YEAR. SOUND LIKE A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, BIG RED FLAG!! VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD FOR OVERLOOKING THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR

WHILE DRIVE DOWN HWY AT 60 MPH , ENGINE LIGHT/WRENCH CAME ON AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO SLOW SPEED AT 900 RPM. ALSO DID IT AT LOW SPEEDS WHILE DRIVING AWAY FROM STOPPED. HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL AND PROBLEM WENT AWAY. *TR
THROUGHOUT ALL OF LAST WINTER, I HAD ISSUES WITH MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE STALLING. THIS OCCURRED COUNTLESS TIMES, AND NEARLY CAUSED MANY ACCIDENTS. IT MOST FREQUENTLY OCCURRED WHEN IT WAS VERY COLD (ZERO OR BELOW), AND ON SOME OCCASIONS WOULD STALL NUMEROUS TIMES IN A ROW, OR FAIL TO RE-START. NO WARNING LIGHT OF ANY SORT EVER CAME ON. AFTER PAYING WELL OVER $1000 TO GET VARIOUS THINGS "FIXED" THAT I WAS TOLD WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM, IT CONTINUED HAPPENING. THEN I RECEIVED THE FIRST BULLETIN LETTER REGARDING THROTTLE BODY ISSUES AND TOOK MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT. THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, OR GET A CODE, THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. I WAS TOLD ONCE AGAIN THAT THEY COULDN'T FIX THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE, AND TRIED CHARGING ME OVER $300 FOR DIAGNOSING MY CAR (LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE OF WHY THE WRENCH WAS ILLUMINATED). I REFUSED TO PAY, BECAUSE THIS IS A FORD ISSUE, IT'S WELL DOCUMENTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET, AND IT'S SOMETHING THEY NEED TO PAY FOR. MY CAR IS STILL NOT FIXED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE OF THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, WHEN SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY MY VEHICLE LOST POWER. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY, A $400 REPAIR THAT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THEIR SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR SUCH A DANGEROUS PROBLEM SO THAT NO ONE GETS HURT OR KILLED.... *TR

WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND SHUTTERED TO A STOP. THROTTLE BODY REPLACED BY FORD DEALER ON 10/08/13. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WRENCH WARNING ICON. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THERE WAS A HESITATION UPON RESTARTING BUT THEN THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,179.
AS I PULLED ON TO THE HIGHWAY THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONED ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE GAS PEDAL HAD NO EFFECT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SMALL WRENCH LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER SAFELY GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY I SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTED ALL SEEMED FINE, THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE OFF AND THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN WORKED. THE SIMILAR EVENT TOOK PLACE TWICE MORE ON MY SHORT DRIVE HOME, ENGINE IDLE ONLY WITH NO ABILITY TO ADD POWER, TURNING THE CAR OFF RESET THE SYSTEM RETURNING POWER. *TR

WHILE DRIVING FREEWAY SPEEDS, I LOST POWER. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, ENGINE REMAINED RUNNING AND I LIMPED TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. WHEN RE-STARTING CAR, PROBLEM DISAPPEARED. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT $90 FOR A TOW AND $30 FOR A RENTAL CAR. THE ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR IS ABOUT $450. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, CAR WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE, GREATLY REDUCING SPEED ON RURAL HIGHWAY. CODE WAS FOR THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK CLOSED. DEALER CLEANED THROTTLE PLATES ONLY, AND RETURNED CAR. I WAS TRAVELING @ ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN IT SOUNDED & FELT LIKE THE ENGINE QUIT. THERE WAS A WIDE SHOULDER SO, I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT RUNNING POORLY AND WOULDN'T REV UP OVER ABOUT 1000 RPM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH AN ORANGE "WRENCH" LIGHT. I SWITCHED THE ENGINE OFF, RESTARTED IT, AND IT RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 1/2 MILE. THEN, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. IN THE NEXT 2 MILES THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES. AFTER ALMOST GETTING REAR-ENDED BY A RAM TRUCK THE LAST TIME IT QUIT, I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND CALLED MY MECHANIC WHO CAME AND TOWED IT TO HIS GARAGE. ALMOST $400 LATER, MY MECHANIC HAD REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE ASSEMBLY. HE TOLD ME THE FORD DEALER PARTS PERSON SAID HE KNEW THE PART NUMBER BY HEART BECAUSE THEY HAD REPLACED SO MANY OF THESE PARTS. *TR
HAD TO REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ON OCTOBER 28 ,2013 AFTER MANY TIMES OF TRUCK STALLING AT SPEEDS UP TO 40 MPH. MOST OF THE ISSUES OCCURRED AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 25 MPH. THE POWER TRAIN WARNING LIGHT (WRENCH LIGHT) AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BOTH WOULD BE ILLUMINATED. THE CAR COULD BE RESTARTED AFTER EACH ISSUE. *TR

WHEN I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALERSHIP REPRESENTATIVE, HE TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD PROBABLY HAPPEN AGAIN. IT HAPPENED ON MY WAY HOME THAT DAY (LAST WEEK) AND ALSO ON THE WAY IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS THIS MORNING. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS, THEY CALLED AND SAID THAT MY CAR WAS REPAIRED. THE BILLING SAYS THAT THEIR "DIAGNOSIS VERIFIED MY CONCERN, AND THEY CHECKED "OASIS. SSM32332. THEY PERFORMED ETB AND CHECK FAILED. THEY FOUND FAULT AND REPLACED ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. RETEST PASSED." I WAS TOLD THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED THE REPAIRS, BUT I WAS CHARGED THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE. WHEN I TRIED TO CHECK WHAT A THROTTLE BODY WAS, I CAME UPON THIS SITE, WHICH INDICATES THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, SO I WONDER IF I SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED OR IF THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ISSUE. I DID NOT DRIVE MY CAR FOR A WEEK BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE STALLING SITUATIONS. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DECELERATES WITHOUT WARNING. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE DECELERATION, HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THERE WAS NO JERKING OF THE VEHICLE, NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IT JUST LOST SPEED QUICKLY. THE ONLY OPTION THE CONSUMER HAD WAS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE PASSING LANE TO THE SHOULDER, CROSSING SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC, TURN IT OFF AND RE-START IT. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT RAN FINE AFTERWARDS FOR WEEKS. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, THE SAME THING, BUT THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED THE VEHICLE DECELERATED FOUR TIMES WITHIN 15 MINUTES.
DRIVING TO KANSAS FROM IOWA ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH WE SUDDENLY STALLED AND LOST OUR POWER STEERING. WE WERE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHICH WAS QUITE SCARY. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD STOPPED, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND STARTED THE CAR BACK UP. CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN WITHIN 2 MINUTES. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE, AT LEAST 20 TIMES UNTIL FINALLY THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. WE WOULD STEP ON THE GAS BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THEN WE TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A MINUTE AND TRIED IT AGAIN UNTIL WE COULD GET BACK ON THE ROAD. THE LAST 13 MILES OF OUR TRIP TOOK OVER A HOUR. TOOK OUR CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH COST US 462.57. THE MECHANIC TOLD US THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AND THERE WILL MOST LIKELY BE A RECALL. THE ERROR CODES WERE P2111 AND P2112 THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN AND CLOSED. THE NEXT DAY WE HAD A TIRE BLOWOUT ON THE INTERSTATE, WHICH WAS ALSO SCARY AND IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, BECAUSE WE SPENT SO MUCH TIME ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WHICH COST US ANOTHER 180 DOLLARS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS RECALLED AS A SAFETY DEFECT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, VEHICLE JERKED (AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED REAL HARD) AND THEN LOST POWER. I MANAGED TO COAST FOR ABOUT 25 YARDS TO GET OFF THE MAIN ROAD. A "YELLOW WRENCH" AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE CONSOLE. SHUT ENGINE OFF, WAITED A MINUTE AND RESTARTED. PROCEEDED ON ROAD FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 1/2 MILES REACHING SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. VEHICLE JERKED AGAIN AND NO POWER. ONCE AGAIN, I MANAGED TO COAST ABOUT 50 FEET TO GET OFF OF THE MAIN ROAD. SAME LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE CONSOLE. SHUT OFF ENGINE. RESTARTED. DROVE 2 MILES BACK TO HOUSE, THE VEHICLE HAD MINIMAL POWER AND WAS SPUTTERING THE WHOLE WAY. THE NEXT MORNING, TRIED TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. STARTED VEHICLE, DROVE ACROSS THE STREET, AGAIN NO POWER. CALLED DEALERSHIP, THEY ARRANGED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A NEIGHBORING DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET TO EVEN LOOK AT IT FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. ERROR MESSAGE ON VEHICLE ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP WAS P2112. UNABLE TO REPAIR AT THIS TIME DUE BACK ORDER OF PART. HAD THERE BEEN ANYONE BEHIND ME ON THE FIRST TWO OCCASIONS OR SOMEONE COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WHILE TRYING TO CROSS ROAD, SURELY I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS OCCURRED OR THE POTENTIAL FOR HARM WOULD HAVE BEEN HIGH! THIS IS POSES AN UNSAFE SITUATION!!! I PURCHASED THIS CERTIFIED VEHICLE ONLY FOUR MONTHS AGO, WITH 50,271 MILES ON IT. I AM NOT CERTAIN IF I WILL FEEL CONFIDENT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO REASSURE THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART WILL FIX THE SITUATION, BUT I HAVE MY DOUBTS FOR A LONG TERM RESOLUTION. *TR
MY SON WAS DRIVING TO A SCHOOL EVENT SATURDAY NIGHT WHEN THE CAR STALLED AND THE THROTTLE POSITION LIGHT CAME ON. HE WAS ABLE TO GET IT OF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN TAMPA, FL (SPEED LIMIT 70 MPH) AND THE TRAFFIC WAS FAIRLY HEAVY. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED (THE GAS PEDAL WAS UNRESPONSIVE) FROM 70 MPH TO 0 MPH. THIS FORCED ME TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY CHANGE OF TWO LANES TO GET TO A PLACE I COULD PULL OFF SAFELY. I COASTED TO A SHOULDER SOME DISTANCE UP THE ROAD AS THERE WERE CONCRETE BARRIERS THAT IMMEDIATELY BORDERED THIS STRETCH OF HIGHWAY WHERE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. MULTIPLE CARS HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES AND MAKE LAST-MINUTE LANE CHANGES TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH OTHER VEHICLES NOW FORCED TO DO A FRACTION OF THE SPEED LIMIT. VERY SCARY. ONCE STOPPED THE SUV IDLED HEAVILY AROUND 1000RPM AND THEN CUT OFF. I CALLED A MECHANIC WHO STATED TO TRY THE CAR AGAIN AND IT STARTED FINE BUT WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO MECHANIC WITH THIS INCIDENT HAPPENING ONLY ONE MORE TIME (THIS TIME I STAYED NEXT TO EMERGENCY LANE WITH MY HAZARDS ON) AND HE STATED IT WAS CODE P2112 WHICH ON LOOKING UP, IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH MULTIPLE FORD ESCAPES 2009-2012 MODELS. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND WHEN LOOKING UP INFO, IT SHOWS THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION WITH THE NHTSA AS OF LAST YEAR BUT NO INFO SINCE. AS I PULLED ONTO THE HIGHWAY MY ESCAPE ENTERED "LIMP MODE". I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED SO I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE IDLED ROUGHLY. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED RUNNING FINE. TODAY (OCT.4TH 2013) THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. SAME ISSUE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE FIXED THE ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPLACING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
DRIVING ON NORTHERN STATE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 55 - 60 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO SPUTTER AND LOST POWER ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON MANAGED TO GET ONTO SIDE OF HIGHWAY WITHOUT GETTING HIT. *TR
DEFECTIVE FORD THROTTLE BODY DIAGNOSED FROM CANBY OREGON FORD. MECHANIC SAID THIS IS VERY COMMON. I ALMOST GOT IN A WRECK, AS I LOST ACCELERATION AT A VERY BAD TIME, WHILE CROSSING AN INTERSECTION IN OREGON CITY, OREGON. I COULD NOT GET OFF THE ROAD. NO ONE HIT ME, HOWEVER. IT WAS JUST SCARY. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT I HAD NO ACCELERATION. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO GO ANOTHER 10 FEET, AND IT LOST ACCELERATION AGAIN. I CALLED TOWING AND HAD IT TOWED TO CANBY FORD. *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A TURN WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY ONCE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ONCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED BOTH THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,230. UPDATED 11/13/13*LJ
