IN SEPT WHILE GOING UP A HILL, JUST MADE IT TO THE TOP, HAD LOSS OF POWER, ENGINE RUNNING BUT ACCELERATOR WILL NOT WORK. ABLE TO COAST DOWN HILL INTO A PARKING LOT. AFTER TURNED CAR OFF, STARTED BACK UP. RAN FINE UNTIL TODAY. LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. SPOKE TO MECHANIC, HE STATED IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM, OK TO DRIVE UNLESS YOU HAVE FURTHER PROBLEMS, IT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THE FUTURE. TODAY, NOV. 3, WHILE PULLING OUT FROM A PARKING LOT, INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC, CAR ENGINE STALLED, PUT CAR INTO PARK, TURNED KEY TO OFF POSITION, THEN CAR STARTED RIGHT UP. VEHICLES BEHIND OURS WERE ABLE TO STOP, LUCKILY NONE COLLIDED. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. INITIALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED BY THE "YELLOW WRENCH" LIGHT, AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATOR NO LONGER AFFECTED THE RPMS AND NO PROPULSION WAS POSSIBLE. VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF BY DRIVER, AND LATER RESTARTED AND FUNCTIONED NORMALLY, I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE IT TO A DEALERSHIP, IT STALLED AGAIN ENROUTE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SAME PROCESS OF TURNING THE CAR OFF, AND THEN ON AGAIN TO CONTINUE WAS ADMINISTERED AND THE VEHICLE MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. AS REPORTED BY OURISMANN FORD DEALERSHIP, THE VEHICLE THROTTLE BOX FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS CONFIRMED THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DRIVER, OPERATION OR MAINTENANCE OF THE VEHICLE, IT IS A DESIGN/MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, UNFORTUNATELY, THIS PART WAS ONLY COVERED BY THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY WHICH RAN OUT ON MY 3 YEAR OLD CAR WHICH WAS PURCHASED AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED FORD LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DRIVER LOSES ALL CONTROL OF ACCELERATION UNEXPECTEDLY, I WAS LUCKY I WAS NOT REAR-ENDED ON THE FREEWAY. *JS
I WAS DOING A LEFT U TURN AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE CAR WENT INTO A STUMBLE MODE, WHERE THE SPEED DROPPED TO 5 MPH AND THE ACCELERATOR HAD NO EFFECT ON THE SPEED. I DROVE HOME AT 5 MPH AND PARKED. THE CAR STARTED AND DROVE NORMAL THE NEXT DAY BUT WENT INTO STUMBLE MODE WHEN I DID A LEFT TURN. DEALER SAYS IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY VALVE, BASED ON ERROR CODES. A LOCAL MECHANIC SAYS HE HAS REPLACED A LOT OF THE THROTTLE BODIES VALVES. *JS
I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I ACCELERATED THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND THE GAS WAS NOT WORKING. THE LITTLE WRENCH ON THE DASH CAME ON AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER LOOKING IT UP IN THE MANUAL IT SAID THROTTLE PROBLEM. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND IT WORKED FINE ALTHOUGH WE WHERE JUST WAITING FOR IT TO BREAK AGAIN. 2 DAYS LATER DRIVING HOME FROM WORK UP A HILL IT HAPPENED AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME IT STARTED BUCKING A BIT AND SHOOTING FORWARD IN SMALL BURSTS UNTIL I BRAKE AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. AGAIN I STARTED THE CAR AND MADE IT HOME. I HAVE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED BUT AFTER READING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR WHAT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I AM JUST GLAD I DRIVE BACK ROADS AND 4 MILES TO WORK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE COMING TO THE OFF RAMP ON HER WAY TO WORK, WHEN THE VEHICLE ACTED LIKE IT HAD RUN OUT OF GAS, BUT WHEN SHE TRIED TO GIVE THE CAR GAS AND ACCELERATE, THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION. IT STARTED JERKING AND SHAKING AND THEN THE WRENCH ICON ILLUMINATED. SHE MANEUVERED IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT. SHE DROVE SLOWLY (25-35 MPH) TO HER DESTINATION LESS THAN 2 MILES AWAY, AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. WE SEE THIS AS A VERY SERIOUS AND LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WE HAVE CALLED OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND THAT MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED AGAINST THIS MALFUNCTION WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT THIS WILL COST US AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE OF APPROX. $400.00- $450.00, SINCE OUR WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 36,000 MILES. WE HOPE THAT THE FORD CORP. WILL ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE ASAP, SINCE FORD IS KNOWN FOR A QUALITY VEHICLE, AND WE HAVE ONLY OWNED FORDS FOR OVER 40 YRS. *JS
I WAS LEAVING A SHOPPING CENTER, PULLED UP TO A LIGHT AND MADE A LEFT TURN ON TO A MAJOR HIGHWAY. AS SOON AS I ACCELERATED THE CAR WAS MISSING OUT AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I PULLED OFF AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. I RESTARTED AND THE CAR DID THE SAME THING. ALL THE WHILE THERE WAS A WRENCH LIGHT LIT ON THE DASH UNDER THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TACH. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR A WHILE THEN RESTARTED AND IT SEEMED OK BUT I WAS AFRAID TO GET BACK ON THE BUSY HIGHWAY. THIS WAS THE FIRST T IME THIS HAD OCCURED. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER. THEY PUT IT ON THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER AND THE PROBLEM WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. I HAD IT REPLACED AND SO FAR ALL IS OK (9-26-13). THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO I HAD TO COVER THE COST. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS. *JS
WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE JUST LOSES ALL POWER TO AN IDLE OF 1000 RPM WITH NO GAS PEDAL RESPONSE. ONCE YOU PULL OVER TURN VEHICLE OFF THEN START IT BACK UP IT SEEMS TO RESET ITSELF FOR AWHILE. IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES AND IS CURRENTLY AT A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAVE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY AND SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR RECALL. *TR
DRIVING 40 MPH AND MY CAR JUST STALLED. CAR STUTTERED, QUIT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY IT WAS A SUNDAY MORNING AND ROADS WEREN'T TO BUSY. I COASTED TO A SIDE ROAD, PULLED OVER, WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES AND RESTARTED. I JUST BOUGHT THIS USED 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED A WEEK AGO. I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE GOOGLED THE VEHICLE SOONER. :(
VEHICLE'S ENGINE SHUT OFF AT 60 MPH. HAD TO PULL OVER AND RESTART CAR TO GET POWER. *JS
THE THROTTLE BODY WENT DEAD WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR SPUTTERED AND SHOOK UNTIL IT WENT DEAD. HAPPENED THREE TIMES ON THE WAY TO THE REPAIR SHOP. HAD TO GET A THROTTLE BODY DIRECTLY FROM FORD WHERE THEY INFORMED US THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT AND THEY HAVE THEM IN STOCK JUST FOR THIS REASON. ALSO THE HORNS ARE ALL DEAD. REPLACED BOTH HORNS AND IT STILL DIDN'T WORK. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID IT MAY BE A MODULE, OR AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT COULD GET WORSE AND SPREAD THROUGHOUT OTHER SYSTEMS. *LN UPDATED 1/6/2013 *JS
ON 9/20/13 @APP 16:00 , I WAS ON I81 / NY 17 IN FRIDAY TRAFFIC . WITH NO WARNING OTHER THEN THE WARNING LIGHT ( WRENCH LIGHT ) ON THE DASH, MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE STOP RUNNING . NO THROTTLE RESPONSE , NO POWER , NO NOTHING . BEING ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER , I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND CONTINUE .WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WAS APP. 2 - MILES FROM MY EXIT AND HOME . THE VEHICLE QUIT 3 TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET IT THERE. SPOKE WITH FORD DEALER , AND HAD IT REPAIRED ON 9/23/13. :FAULT ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY CONTROL . MY CONCERN IS THE WAY IT HAPPENED WITH NO WARNING . MINUTES BEFORE IT HAPPENED I WAS IN A MAJOR CONSTRUCTION DETOUR ( I 81 /NYS 17 , 5 YEAR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT ) . IF THIS HAD HAPPENED MOMENTS EARLIER , I NOT SURE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED . I FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE REVIEW ,UNDERSTANDING THIS IS NOT THE FIRST FORD VEHICLES THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. *JS
SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, WHEN IT TURNED GREEN ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, THROTTLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE IMMEDIATELY AND THE POWERTRAIN SYSTEM FAULT LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER TURNING OFF THE IGNITION THE CAR STARTED BACK UP WITH OUT INCIDENT AND CONTINUED THE DRIVE THAT DAY. ABOUT 1 WEEK LATER, HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TWICE IN ONE DAY AND THEN FOUR TIMES THE NEXT. OF THE SEVEN TOTAL INCIDENTS, 3 OF WHICH HAPPENED IN MAJOR INTERSECTIONS BLOCKING FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND TURNED ME INTO A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DISENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL AND WENT TO AN EXTREMELY ROUGH IDLE WITH THE VEHICLE SHAKING LIKE A LEAF IN THE WIND. HAD TO EXIT HIGHWAY THROUGH TRAFFIC AS THE THROTTLE WOULD NOT RESPOND IN ANY POSITION. IT WAS EARLY MORNING WITH LIGHT TRAFFIC THANKFULLY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED LATER IN THE DAY DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC.
TRAVELING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE LANE AT 8:30 PM THE TRUCK STARTED TO HESITATE AND ACT LIKE IT WASN'T RUNNING RIGHT. THEN I LOST TOTAL CONTROL OF THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I HAD ALL I COULD DO TO TRY TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. NOTICING THAT THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT ENGAGE AT ALL, I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK AND WAS GOING TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK. THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO TRY AND START IT TO SEE IF I COULD GET HOME ON MY OWN. ONCE I STARTED THE TRUCK, IT WAS LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED AND I CONTINUED HOME MAKING IT WITHOUT A PROBLEM. SINCE THEN THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 OTHER TIMES, ALWAYS ON THE HIGHWAY, AND THE LAST 2 TIMES IT HAPPENED IT, ONCE THE TRUCK STARTED BACK UP AND I DROVE OFF, I ONLY GOT @ 3 MILES DOWN THE SAME HIGHWAY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN, SO I JUST REPEATED THE PROCEDURE AND HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE. I HAVE GONE AHEAD AND PURCHASED THE NEW THROTTLE BODY AND AM HAVING MY MECHANIC INSTALL IT THIS WEEK. I WILL BE DRIVING @ 60 MILES ONE WAY, 120 MILES TOTAL, A DAY FOR WORK STARTING THIS WEEK AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO GET STRANDED THAT FAR FROM HOME AND LOOSE TIME FROM WORK OR NOT BE ABLE TO GET HOME. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT AT ONE POINT AND TIME THAT THE TRUCK WON'T JUST START BACK UP EVERY TIME, SO I'LL BE GETTING IT FIXED. VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE TRUCK THAT I PURCHASED IN APRIL AND ONLY HAS @ 44000 MILES ON IT WOULD HAVE SUCH A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH SUCH AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY CAN'T KEEP THEM ON THE SHELVES BECAUSE THERE IS SUCH A HUGE PROBLEM OVERALL. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS TO SOMEONE WHO WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO IN A CRISIS SITUATION. ON THE BOX FOR THE PART IT SAYS FORD GENUINE PARTS, MADE IN MEXICO. NICE!! MAYBE YOU WANT TO RETHINK WHERE YOU LOCATE YOUR PARTS FACTORIES. YOU KNOW THE OLD SAYING " NOTHING GOOD IS CHEAP AND NOTHING CHEAP IS GOOD". *TR
WHEN THE FORD ESCAPE IS DRIVING AND STOPS AT A LIGHT THE ENGINE STARTS TO RIDDLE. ONCE YOU HIT THE GAS THE CAR GOES INTO SECOND GEAR THEN THE GAS PEDALS STOPS WORKING. CAN'T USE THE GAS PEDAL. *TR
DRIVING MY VEHICLE HOME FOR LUNCH MY VEHICLE STARTED SPUTTERING AND MY CRUISE CONTROL KICKED OFF. VEHICLE RPM'S DROPPED AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL QUIT WORKING. SO I PULLED OVER. I USED MY DTC DEVICE TO SEE WHAT CODE IS POPPING UP AND IT WAS P2111. I PUT CAR IN PARK, SHUT IT OFF, WAITED 30 SECONDS AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND DROVE HOME. NOW I'M HERE TYPING THIS UP.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON MY DASHBOARD AND NOTICED I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE BUT WAS STALLING BARELY ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER ALMOST STALLING IN AN INTERSECTION.I AM FEMALE WAS ALONE AND IT WAS EVENING IN A RURAL AREA.I QUICKLY SHUT OFF VEHICLE LIGHTS ETC FOR MAYBE 1 MINUTE.RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO LEAVE AGAIN ONLY TO STALL AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD 2 MILES FURTHER.,SHUT OFF VEHICLE AGAIN AND WAITED APPROX 1 MIN STARTED UP AGAIN AND DROVE ANOTHER 500 FEET TO STALL AGAIN.AT THIS POINT I WAS AFRAID AND DECIDED TO KNOCK AT SOMEONES HOME AS IT WAS DARK AND THERE WERE VERY FEW HOMES ON THIS STREET.THIS PERSON HAPPENED TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL AND THE CODE 4READ OUT P2111 AND SAID THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR SENSOR CONTROL STAYING STUCK OPEN AND THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER CODE BUT I CANNOT REMEMBER, HE SAID THERE COULD BE ANOTHER PROBLEM CAUSING THIS PROBLEM.WHATEVER THE PROBLEM I HAVE FACTORY COVERAGE UNTIL OCT 14/2014 AND AM TOLD THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY,WHICH IS TOTALLY CRAZY.THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE WHICH NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY.I HAVE AN APPT WITH FORD TUESDAY SEPT 24 WHICH I HAVE TO PAY FOR,AM HOPING THIS WILL BE A RECALL AS THERE ARE SEVERAL REPORTS ONLINE WITH PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. NOT ONLY DO I HAVE THIS PROBLEM BUT THE VEHICLE IS FULL OF RUST SPOTS WHICH SHOULD BE COVERED .I HAVE HAD SEVERAL FORDS IN MY LIFETIME AND THIS ONE IS A PIECE OF CRAP.
I WAS TRAVELING IN VA ON 64E WITH POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE ON 9/18/2013 AT APPX 8:30 PM (DARK OUTSIDE) WHEN MY CAR LOST ACCELERATION AND SLOWED DOWN TO A CRAWL, JERKING AND SPUTTER WITH NO PRE-WARNING THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. FOUND OUT LATER CAR WAS IN LIMP HOME MODE. A TOOL ICON WAS LIT ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN IT CAME TO ALMOST A STOP FROM DRIVING 70 MPH. THE CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO SWERVE INTO THE RIGHT LANE TO KEEP FROM HITTING ME. I MANAGED TO PULL OVER TO THE LEFT SHOULDER AND PUT EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON. AFTER I CALMED DOWN, WHILE ON CELL PHONE WITH HUSBAND, HE TOLD ME TO CUT CAR OFF AND THEN RESTART. TOOL ICON WAS ELIMINATED WHEN RESTARTED CAR. I WAITED FOR CLEAR BREAK IN TRAFFIC AND DROVE TO THE NEXT EXIT TO GET OFF OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. DROVE ANOTHER ROUTE HOME WITH LOW SPEED LIMIT IN CASE SCENARIO HAPPENED AGAIN. HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND PART AT A COST OF $181.98 (PART COST ONLY).HAD A VERY HARD TIME FINDING A PART IN STOCK AND MOST DEALERSHIPS HAD PART ON BACK ORDER AND THE PART WAS ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH A DEALERSHIP. LUCKED OUT AFTER MANY HOURS OF TRYING TO FIND THE PART IN STOCK. MY OPINION IS THAT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A PRIORITIZED SAFETY CONCERN AS THERE IS NO WARNING BUILT INTO THE AUTO CHECK/WARNING SYSTEM AND WAS A VERY DANGEROUS INCIDENT. *JS
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT. ABOUT 5 DAYS AFTER THE PURCHASE, MY WIFE AND I CAME TO A STOP SIGN. WE STARTED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND THE CAR STALLED, SPUTTERED, AND SURGED AROUND 600 RPM. A CAR WAS COMING TOWARDS US AND ALMOST T-BONED OUR VEHICLE BECAUSE WE COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT INDICATING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY CAME ON. WE HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. AFTER CRANKING THE ESCAPE AGAIN THE CODE CLEARED AND THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE FOR A LITTLE WHILE UNTIL THIS OCCURRED AGAIN. I HAVE SINCE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY BUT THIS HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE ESCAPE HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN INCLUDING WHILE MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE AT AROUND 50 MPH. IT JUST SHUTS DOWN TO ABOUT 15 MPH OUT OF NO WHERE, THE THROTTLE BODY LIGHT COMES ON AND IT WILL NOT ACCELERATE. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FOR MY WIFE, BUT CANNOT LET HER DRIVE IT FOR FEAR OF HER GETTING IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. *JS
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL AND SHE INFORMED ME THAT SHE LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN FOUR DAYS. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND A "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES AWAY. THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION 10 TIMES DURING THE TRIP. I WOULD MAKE IT 100 YARDS TO 3 MILES BETWEEN EACH INCIDENT. THE FORD DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACING. IT IS BEING REPLACED THIS WEEK. LUCKILY I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT COVERS THIS REPAIR OR IT WOULD BE OVER $400.00. *TR

TONIGHT I WAS DRIVING HOME DOING ABOUT 55MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUDDERED AND LOST ALL POWER. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST IT TO WHERE IT WAS MOSTLY OFF OF THE ROAD. IT DID NOT DIE BUT CONTINUED TO SHAKE WHILE IN HIGH IDLE. THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND NO ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL PRODUCED ZERO RESULTS. I SHUT IT DOWN AND PONDERED WHETHER TO TRY AND START IT BACK UP OR JUST CALL A TOW TRUCK. BEING OUT IN THE COUNTRY I DECIDED TO TAKE A CHANCE. IT STARTED UP AND RAN FINE...FOR LESS THAN TWO MILES...WHEN IT REPEATED THE SAME SCENARIO ONLY IN A MUCH MORE DRAMATIC LOSS OF POWER SHUDDER AND REAL ROUGH IDLE. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK A PICTURE OF THE DISPLAY PANELS. DIDN'T NOTICE THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING THAT TIME AND THE ENGINE DID NOT DIE. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP... NO TOW TRUCK AVAILABLE. TOOK MY CHANCES AGAIN AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SINCE IT WAS ONLY A FEW MILES FURTHER THEN GOING HOME. DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM DURING THAT DRIVE BUT DETECTED AN ENGINE WHINE SOUND THAT I HAD NEVER NOTICED BEFORE. VEHICLE HAS 53,393 MILES ON IT. ENGINE WAS PULLED AT 8K FOR OIL LEAKS. HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF SHIFTING CLUNKING SOUND AT TAKE OFF OVER THE LIFE OF IT. HAVE HAD BRAKES FAIL IN REVERSE. ALWAYS PUMP THEM BEFORE BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE WORKING OK THAT DAY. ALL WORK, RIGHT DOWN TO TIRE ROTATIONS HAVE BEEN DONE ONLY AT THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THIS BRAND NEW AT. I RECENTLY HAD AN INCIDENT ON 8/28/13 WITH A FUEL VAPOR LEAK. IT WAS FIXED ON 9/6/13. AS OF 9/17/13 THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN.. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT AND HAVE NOT FIXED. SO NOW WHEN YOU HAVE A VAPOR LEAK & THEY REPLACE THE VAPOR SYSTEM, ITS REPLACED WITH THE SAME MODEL TYPE SO IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN & AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING DOWN ROAD TUESDAY MORNING SEPT 17 2013 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR LOSES THROTTLE, MY FOOT IS ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE. I'M FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS A STORE WHERE WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. I TURN THE CAR OFF AND SAT FOR ABOUT 10 TO 15 SECONDS AND STARTED IT BACK UP, IT HESITATED AT FIRST SO I WAITED FOR ANOTHER 15 TO 20 SECOND AND TRIED IT AGAIN IT STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO GET MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL AND TO WORK. ON MY WAY HOME IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER TO SEE IF I CAN BRING IT IN AND THEY WERE ABLE TO GET ME IN WED SEPT 17. ONCE I EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICEMAN WHAT HAPPENED, HE INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE BEEN FIXING THIS SAME PROBLEM FOR CONSUMERS ALL SUMMER. AFTER I PICKED MY CAR UP I GOGGLED THE ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND FOUND THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL CONSUMERS WHO HAVE HAD TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. AS A CONSUMER I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AND I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED WHEN THEY ARE CLEARLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEM. STANDARD TRANSMISSION VEHICLE. TRAVELING ON CITY STREET AT 35 MPH, VEHICLE STARTED LOSING POWER AND ENGINE DIED. INITIALLY NOT ABLE TO RESTART, WAITED 4 MINUTES AND ENGINE STARTED. FEW MINUTES LATER AT A STOP, BEGAN ACCELERATING BUT ENGINE DIED AGAIN. AFTER FIRST OCCURRENCE, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WRENCH LIGHT WENT ON AND OFF. WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE STARTED AND PROCEEDED TO FORD DEALER. FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS FAULTY THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED.
TRAVELING SOUTH ON 95 JUST SOUTH OF FREDERICKSBURG, VA IN A 70 MPH ZONE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER. WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF ON THE LEFT SHOULDER. AFTER A FEW MINUTES RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TRIP. THE SAME CONDITION APPEARED AGAIN ON 9/24 IN A PARKING LOT. I WAS AT INTERSECTION TRYING TO CROSS 4 LANES CAR LOST POWER BARELY GOT ACROSSS LANES SAFELY. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT SEPT 13, 2013. TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 55MPH ON HIGHWAY 32 WHEN A SENSATION OF SOMEONE JUST PULLING THE PLUG ON THE ENGINE FUEL INTAKE. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE AT ALL WHEN PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE REMAINED IDLING AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL SAFELY OFF THE ROAD INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER IT STILL WHILE IDLING, TO POSITION THE VEHICLE OF POSSIBLE TOWING. I HAD LEFT THE VEHICLE IDLING AND CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY ASKED ME IF I HAD "CYCLED" THROUGH BY TURNING THE MOTOR OFF AND TRYING TO RESTART. I TOLD THEM I HAD NOT. THEY TOLD ME TO TURN IT OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TRY TO START IT AND SEE IF THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WOULD RESET ITSELF. I DID AND IT DID RESET. SECOND INCIDENT SEPT 16, 2013. CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY ON SLIGHT INCLINE. I PUT INTO REVERSE TO EXIT THE DRIVEWAY. ONCE IN THE STREET I PUT INTO DRIVE TO START GOING FORWARD AND THERE WAS NOT RESPONSE AT THE ACCELERATOR, JUST LIKE THE FIRST TIME. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE AND RESTARTED IT. THROTTLE BODY HAD RESET AND I PROCEEDED ON MY WAY AGAIN. *TR
JUST STARTED TO PULL AWAY AND THE ACCELERATOR JUST STOPPED. THE PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT WOULD NOT MOVE. COASTED INTO A GAS STATION THAT WAS RIGHT NEXT TO US AND SHUT IT OFF. AFTER A RESTART IT WAS FINE. IT HAS HAPPENED SIX TIMES SINCE THEN, SOMETIMES WHEN I AM GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 60 MPH. *TR
THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING BACK FROM WORK, I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED AND IT PASSED INSPECTION FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I HAVE OWNED VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 5 MONTHS WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURRED. THE SYMPTOMS THAT I EXPERIENCED WERE LOSS OF POWER WHILE ACCELERATING AND ENGINE AUTOMATICALLY GOES INTO "LIMP MODE" (ENGINE ECU PROTECTION PROTOCOL SO NO MORE DAMAGE WOULD BE DONE TO THE ENGINE) I NOTICED THAT THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD, SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP AND I EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED, RIGHT OF THE BAT THE WOMAN BEHIND THE COUNTER SAID IT WAS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE (WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE) SO I BECAME SUSPICIOUS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP AND I GOT A HOLD OF THE ACTUAL MECHANIC AND RIGHT AWAY HE SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, OUT OF GOOD FAITH HE ADVISE THAT I CAN CHANGE THAT PART MYSELF WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY FORD FOR THEM TO FIX. THE ESTIMATE FOR GETTING IT FIXED THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSE TO $600 +TAX, WHEN THE PART ITSELF COST ONLY AROUND $200 +TAX. I BOUGHT THE PART FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND CHANGED IT, EVER SINCE THAT FIX MY VEHICLE IS RUNNING EVEN BETTER THAN BEFORE. THE MAN BEHIND THE COUNTER THAT GAVE ME THE PART MENTIONED THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THAT USUALLY CHANGING THE THROTTLE BODY FIXES THE ISSUE, HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT IF A RECALL IS TO BE MADE TO JUST BRING BACK THE DEFECTIVE PART AND THE PROOF OF PURCHASE IN ORDER TO GET MY MONEY BACK. FORD SHOULD JUST STOP DENYING THIS ISSUE AND JUST ADMIT THAT THE ISSUE WAS NEVER FULLY FIXED.

TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT, DROVE ANOTHER 5 FEET AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF INTO A PARKING LOT AND WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TOW MY VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FAULTY BUT THE FORD DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. *TR
GOING AROUND A TURN, THE CAR STARTED SPUTTERING AND WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. I PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND THEN RESTARTED IT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND THE PART WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE CONTINUED DRIVING WITHOUT HAVING THE PART REPAIRED, AND IT HAS HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK. I WILL BE PAYING FOR THE REPAIR, BUT DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE WITH FORD AND IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED.
ON SEPT 12, 2013 I WAS DRIVING ON I-95 GOING APPROXIMATELY 75MPH WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT SPUTTERED AND THEN JUST QUIT RUNNING OR STALLED OUT. TO MY SURPRISE (AND THANK GOD) THE STEERING DID NOT LOCK UP WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED UP. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING KILLED. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITED 5 MINUTES AND THEN WAS ABLE TO START DRIVING AGAIN. THEN IT STALLED OUT AGAIN. I DROVE IT LIKE THIS FOR THE NEXT 10 MILES TO GET HOME. I STOPPED AT A DISCOUNT AUTO PARTS STORE AND THEY PUT A COMPUTER ON IT. HE SAID IT WAS READING THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STUCK OPEN. AFTER THE STORE CLERK AND I GOOGLED THIS CODE THE MOST WE COULD FIND FOR A SOLUTION WAS TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY. SO HE BROUGHT ME THE RIGHT TB CLEANER TO BUY. I WENT HOME AND TOOK THE TB APART (IT WAS GUNKED UP PRETTY GOOD), CLEANED IT TO A SHINY, BRAND NEW LOOKING THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED IT AT WHICH TIME I ALSO TOOK THIS OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM AN OIL CHANGE, TOP OFF MY FLUIDS, REPLACE THE AIR FILTER WITH A NEW ONE AND PUT COOLANT IN MY RADIATOR. I RECONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLES, STARTED THE CAR AND WENT FOR A RIDE. I WAS AMAZED. IT PURRED LIKE A KITTEN. NO DASH "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" ON! I THOUGHT I HAD FIXED MY PROBLEM. NOT SO. HERE I AM NOW, THE 24TH OF SEPT AND GUESS WHAT!! YEP HAD TO CALL IN TO WORK BECAUSE MY CAR ONLY MAKES IT 10 FT DOWN THE ROAD AND STALLS OUT. NO WARNING. I LOOKED IN AT THE THROTTLE BODY AND ITS STILL SPARKING CLEAN, NO GUNK. WHAT'S GOING ON. THIS AM WHEN IT HAPPENED I HAD MY 3 YEAR OLD AND 4 YEAR OLD IN THE CAR WITH ME AND WE [XXXX] NEAR GOT KILLED FROM THE SEMI TRUCK BEHIND US. I DROVE MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL WITH THE CAR LIKE THIS AND NOW AM TRYING TO FIND A NEW THROTTLE BODY TO PUT IN. WHILE ACCELERATING AND SWITCHING FROM FIRST GEAR, ENGINE SLOWS TO ROUGH IDLE, NO THROTTLE RESPONSE, WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THOUGH. SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO CREEP TO THE SIDE OF ROAD BUT NO REAL POWER OR CONTROL OF THROTTLE. IDLE AND REV THE ENGINE AFTER RESTART ARE OK BUT SEEMS TO HAVE TROUBLE UNDER THE HEAVIER LOAD OF PULLING SECOND GEAR THEN RATHER THAN SWITCHING BACK TO FIRST THE SOFTWARE CRASHES OR SOMETHING. STUPID WAY TO HANDLE A PROBLEM ON FORDS END. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN I CAR LOWERED SPEED SUPER FAST, SO O HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CARD OFF. LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 2-5 MINUTES THEN STARTED BACK UP. IT IS GETTING WORSE AND IT HAPPENED 7 TIMES IN ONE DAY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON FAR LEFT LANE OF FREEWAY AT 70MPH, HEARD/FELT CLUNK (WHICH FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING BUT FOUND OUT AFTER THE REPAIR IT WASN'T TRANS) PUSHED GAS PEDAL NO ACCELERATION, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS COMING BEHIND ME AND I WAS ON A SLIGHT DOWNHILL SO I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER, PUT IT IN PARK AND TRIED TO PUSH GAS PEDAL AGAIN STILL NO ACCELERATION, THE CAR WAS RUNNING IN IDLE AND STAYED THAT WAY UNTIL TOW TRUCK DRIVER CAME, SHUT CAR OFF TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP. ON WORK ORDER IT SAYS- THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASY, INSPECT AND VERIFY, LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, HOOK UP IDS SELFTEST PCM P2111, PERFORM THROTTLE BODY TEST, FAILED, THROTTLE BODY FAULT, REPLACE THROTTLE BODY, RESET KAM, RETEST OPERATION OK. HAD TO PAY LOTS OF MY MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET AND PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR AND GAS. RESEARCHED INTERNET TO FIND THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE AND FORD WON'T DO A RECALL. THEY SHOULD!!! I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A LOYAL FORD CUSTOMER SINCE MY DAD WORKED THERE MANY YEARS. I HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN A FORD AND WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE ON BUT MAY HAVE TO RETHINK THIS. I WONDER HOW MANY OTHERS THERE REALLY ARE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF PEOPLE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE FREEWAY BEHIND ME WHICH I AM LUCKY IT DIDN'T. TRAVELING AT 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT VEHICLE IN PARK. PUSHED DOWN ON ACCELERATED, BUT NO RESPONSE. SHUT DOWN VEHICLE. WAITED A FEW MOMENTS. VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN. DROVE DIRECTLY TO DEALERSHIP. AFTER TWO DAYS, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM. THAT WAS FIVE DAYS AGO. THIS EVENING, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. VEHICLE IS RETURNING TO DEALERSHIP ALONG WITH SEVERAL ARTICLES REGARDING FORD'S THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD ON THEIR WEBSITE. *TR
I WAS ON THE RIGHT HAND LANE ON HIGHWAY WHEN VEHICLE ALL OF SUDDEN LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. ALMOST REAR ENDED DUE TO SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. ONCE I PULLED OVER AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS IT STARTED BACK UP. AFTER EXITING AND WAITING AT A RED LIGHT AND THEN PROCEEDING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION ON GREEN TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN THE VEHICLE AGAIN LOST POWER. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON AT LEAST THREE OTHER OCCASIONS. WHEN I FIRST TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC THEY TELL ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND AFTER THE THIRD OCCURRENCE THE WRENCH LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON AND NOW I'M TOLD ITS THE THROTTLE THAT SHOWS TO BE STUCK IN OPEN. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE PRICE FROM $750-$1000 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. NO RECALL AS OF TODAYS DATE. THE AUTO MECHANIC AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN COMPLAINTS BUT NO RECALL SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THIS FIX. I OWN ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE A 2004. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM AND VERY RELIABLE, THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND BAD BUSINESS FOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE THAT IT IS OBVIOUS FOR THIS PARTICULAR PART THE IS A DEFECT. THERE SHOULD BE RECALL. THIS MAY BE MY LAST FORD VEHICLE. *TR
STOPPED AT LIGHT. GOT TO 20 MPH THEN ENGINE SHUT OFF. COASTED 50 FEET SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL RESTARTED CAR SHOOK, BUT GOT ME TO SAFETY. GOT TOWED. ERROR CODE P2112. *TR
AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT I PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WHEN MY FORD ESCAPE BEGAN TO JERK, THEN SEEMED TO DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND AFTER LISTENING TO THE ENGINE I REALIZED THAT IT WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT THERE WAS NO GAS GETTING TO THE ENGINE WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR. I LET THE CAR ROLL OUT OF THE INTERSECTION, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT. AFTER ANOTHER MILE UPON STOPPING BEFORE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN IT STOPPED AGAIN AFTER GAINING UP TO ABOUT 10 MPH. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AGAIN AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START IT CRANKED, BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. ON MY THIRD ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE ENGINE IT TURNED OVER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. *TR
I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ONTO ENTRANCE RAMP OF FREEWAY WHEN THE POWER SUDDENLY CUT OUT AND THE CAR COASTED. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED A FORD DEALER AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE THROTTLE BODY HAD A FAULT IN THE SYSTEM AND WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF NEARLY $300. *JB
