THE VEHICLE IS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. DRIVING MY 2010 ESCAPE THE ENGINE STALLED. THE SPEED I WAS GOING WAS ABOUT 20 MPH. WITH NO PRIOR WARNING THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THE RPM'S FLUCTUATED AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAID IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS BUT AFTER INVESTOR I FOUND IN THE INTERNET VERY SIMILAR BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER FORD ESCAPES AND IT SAID THAT AT THE END IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED I WAITED AFTER 3 DAYS WITH MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP AND CALLED THEM AND TOLD THEM TO CHECK THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY CONFIRM THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACE, BUT I TOLD THEM AND YET I HAD TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE AT MY EXPENSE AS IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS ENGINE STALL ISSUE OCCURRED 08/17/2013 TO 08/19/2013 ( 5 TIMES). *TR
P2111 CODE (THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN); ACCELERATOR PEDAL STOPS WORKING; VEHICLE GOES INTO A LIMP HOME MODE. CYCLE THE IGNITION KEY AND EVERYTHING STARTS WORKING AGAIN. PROBLEM KEEPS REPEATING ITSELF. SUSPECT THE THROTTLE BODY IS MALFUNCTIONING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN MY GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING AND MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, THE PROBLEM RECURRED FOUR TIMES BEFORE I FINALLY CALLED A TOW TRUCK. THE REPAIR SHOP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE THROTTLE BODY STUCK IN AN OPEN POSITION. THE PART IS NOW ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. IT IS AN EXPENSIVE AND, DUE TO THE BACK ORDER, LONG REPAIR. *TR
WAS DRIVING FAMILY BACK TO OUT CABIN IN PIGEON FODGE TN, ALL OF SUDDEN IN THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC OUR SUV MADE A SUDDEN SURGE AND LOST FORWARD MOTION SPEED DROPPED AND IT WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 1 GRAND ON TACHOMETER. IT WOULD CRAWL BUT BARLEY. TRAFFIC BEHIND ME STARTED BLOWING THEIR HORNS. I HIT THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS. AND STARTED TO GETUS OFF THE PARKWAY. WE MADE IT. THE YELLOW WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASH AND THE SUV IDLED VERY RUFF. I TURNED IT OFF. WAITED LOOKED UNDER THE DASH. GOT THE FAMILY OUT BECAUSE IT WAS HOT OUTSIDE. THEN DID NOT LEARN ANYTHING FROM HOOD UP. STARTED THE SUV BACK UP AND IT RAN. GOT THE FAMILY BACK IN THE SUV AND WENT BACK TO CABIN. THANKS THAT IS ALL I KNOW. WE HAVE TO GO BACK HOME IN MORNING SO I HOPE I CAN MAKE IT 3 HOUR TRIP. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET, 60MPH ON I-64 @ I-170 THE VEHICLE STOPPED FORWARD MOTION. IT COASTED TO A STOP BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT STOP. THE ACCELERATOR DID NOT WORK AND THE RPM STAYED BETWEEN 750 AND 1000. THE IGNITION WAS TUNED OFF THEN BACK ON IN ABOUT 2 MINUTES AND THE ACCELERATOR WORKED. FORD DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY UNIT. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, THE THROTTLE CONTROL STOPPED. THE ENGINE MAINTAINED RUNNING BUT THERE WAS NO THROTTLE CONTROL. I WAS FORCED TO CUT ACROSS TRAFFIC WHILE LOSING SPEED TO REACH THE SHOULDER. AFTER STOPPING, TURNING OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTING ALL CONTROL RETURNED. I TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALER AND UPON A DIAGNOSTIC WAS DETERMINED THAT CODE P2112 AND THE ETB FAILED. *TR
IN AUGUST RUSH-HOUR MORNING TRAFFIC AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING WENT INTO 'LIMP MODE', THE ENGINE RPM DECREASED TO UNDER 1000RPM AND I WAS ABLE TO FIGHT THRU SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC WHILE COASTING THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. NO THROTTLE INPUTS AFFECTED THE ENGINE, IT REMAINED UNDER 1000RPM AND RAN VERY ROUGH AS IF IT WAS GOING TO STALL. I SHUT THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF, WAITED A MINUTE, THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO THE WORKPLACE. TWO DAYS LATER ON A SHORT TRIP TO A RESTAURANT, THE ENGINE AGAIN WENT INTO 'LIMP MODE'. I SHUTOFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED AND CONTINUED ON MY WAY. ABOUT 1/4 MILE LATER THE ENGINE WENT INTO 'LIMP MODE' AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WOULD GO INTO 'LIMP MODE' AFTER EVERY 1/4 - 1/2 MILE FOR A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES ON THE SHORT TRIP. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT IS NOW. THIS 2010 FORD ESCAPE HAS 86K MILES. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED DUE TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE13003 AS OF YET (STILL IN INVESTIGATION SINCE FEBRUARY). I CANNOT SAFELY DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION POWER WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTION AFTER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF FOR A MOMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 680 IN STOP N GO TRAFFIC. I PUT MY FOOT ON GAS TO GO, BUT MY CAR JUST WOULDN'T GO. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER IN THE SHOULDER ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE CAR STARTED SHAKING. I PUT MY CAR IN PARKING MODE AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I RESTARTED IT AGAIN, AND IT WORKED. SO, I WENT INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER ABOUT A MILE FURTHER IN STOP N GO TRAFFIC, MY CAR DID THE SAME EXACT THING. IT STOPPED WORKING, AND STARTED SHAKING WHEN I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AGAIN. I WASN'T FEELING COMFORTABLE WITH DRIVING MY CAR SINCE SAME THING HAPPENED TWICE. SO, I HAD TO CALL THE TOW COMPANY AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOME. *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR GAVE A SUDDEN JOLT AND DIED. I START IT BACK UP JUST FINE, BUT WHEN I STATED GOING AGAIN, IT STALLED AND DIED AGAIN. I GOT IT STARTED, GOT ONTO A BUSY STREET, MADE A U- TURN AND IT DID AGAIN. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET IT STARTED AND OFF THE INCREDIBLY BUSY STREET BEFORE THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT. I AM NOW HAVING A PROBLEM, I CANT EVEN DRIVE A QUARTER MILE BEFORE IT DIES AGAIN. *TT
I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN MY GAS PEDAL SUDDENLY WOULD NOT WORK. WHEN I PULLED OVER TO A COMPLETE STOP MY STEERING WAS VIBRATING PRETTY BAD. THE WRENCH SHOWING THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY POWERTRAIN WAS LIT UP. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTED MY CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME. ABOUT A WEEK LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. MY VEHICLE IS NOW SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS BEEN WAITING FOR OVER 2 WEEKS FOR THE THROTTLE BODY TO BE REPLACED AND I AM TOLD THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT A SPEED OF 75MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST ALL POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN AND THE RPM WENT DOWN TO 900. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAD TO MAKE MY WAY ACROSS ALL THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE WASHINGTON, DC BELTWAY (I-95) IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD, THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION COMPLETELY. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE AT ALL TO PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. I COASTED TO THE LEFT SHOULDER, LEFT THE CAR RUNNING IN PARK, AND CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO CALLED A TOW TRUCK, AND WE TOOK THE CAR TO JERRY'S FORD IN ALEXANDRIA, VA. I RESEARCHED THE "THROTTLE BODY" ONLINE, WHICH JERRY'S FORD SAID TODAY WAS THE AFFECTED PART. I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY RECALL ISSUES WITH THE PART STICKING OPEN OR CLOSED OR CAUSING DECREASED ACCELERATION CAPABILITIES. JERRY'S TOLD ME THE PART IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ENGINE/POWERTRAIN 60,000-MILE WARRANTY. MY CAR HAS ONLY 44,275 MILES. I WAS TOLD THE REPAIR WILL BE OVER $650. I THINK IT SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY AS THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS AND IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO COMPLETELY LOSE ACCELERATION ON FAST-FLOWING HIGHWAY. ALSO, I TRIED TYPING "THROTTLE BODY" IN THE PARTS LIST AND IT DIDN'T COME UP. IF SOMEONE KNOWS THE EXACT PART AFFECTED, IT SHOULD COME UP ON THE LIST. OR ELSE YOU SHOULD INCLUDE SOME GUIDANCE ON WHAT MAJOR SYSTEMS TO LIST, OTHERWISE THIS ELECTRONIC FORM CANNOT BE SUBMITTED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. STEPPING ON THE GAS PRODUCED NO EFFECT. DRIVING SLOWLY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND PROCEEDED TO WORK. THIS WAS A DAILY OCCURRENCE BOTH GOING TO WORK IN THE MORNING, AND RETURNING IN THE EVENING. TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 58 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT INCREASE SPEED DESPITE THE CONTACT DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SHOULDER AND THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AS HAVING THROTTLE ASSEMBLY FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,600. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 9/19/13 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. UPDATED 09/24/13
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AT AROUND 65MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND THE GAS PEDAL BECAME USELESS. I WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR APPEARED TO GO BACK TO NORMAL, BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. WHEN I FINALLY GOT AN APPOINTMENT WITH FORD TO HAVE IT FIXED THEY CHARGED ME $623 TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I TOLD THEM I HAD NEVER HEARD OF A THROTTLE BODY NEEDING TO BE REPLACED ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES WITHOUT HAVING SOME TYPE OF MANUFACTURES DEFECT. THE FORD SERVICE TECH DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WHEN SUDDENLY, MY ENGINE LOST POWER. A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, AND MY THROTTLE WAS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE, SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST SAFELY OFF THE FREEWAY AND ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT MY CAR OFF, WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO, AND THEN RESTARTED MY CAR. EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE AFTER THAT. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, NOW TOTALING 6 TIMES, ALL WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WENT TO THE MECHANIC, HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. HE WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT HE COULD PUT A RUSH ORDER ON IT FOR AN ADDITIONAL 15% OF THE PRICE, AND IT WOULD STILL TAKE 2 WEEKS. THROUGH NORMAL CHANNELS, IT WOULD WAKE SEVERAL MONTHS. I NEED MY CAR TO WORK, AND TWO THINGS BOTHER ME THE MOST: A RUSH ORDER WOULD STILL TAKE 2 WEEKS TO BE DELIVERED, AND IF IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM, IT FEELS AS THOUGH FORD IS DOING NOTHING TO ALLEVIATE IT, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IMPAIRS MY ABILITY TO DRIVE SAFELY ON THE ROAD. I AM CONSTANTLY PARANOID WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD, AND I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR, SINCE IT'S MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND WENT TO ACCELERATE, BUT WHEN I HIT THE GAS THE CAR STALLED AND I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE CAR. THE VEHICLE DID THIS 4 TIMES IN THE NEXT THREE DAYS. SOMETIMES IT WOULD HAPPEN AT HIGHER SPEED AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I WAS JUST GETTING GOING. IT TURNS OUT THAT I HAD A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM IN FORD ESCAPES. *TR
CAR STALLED IN PARKING LOT, RESTARTED STALLED AGAIN. HAD TOWED TO DEALER, NO CODES SHOWED. THE MECHANIC DROVE CAR FOR ABOUT 100 MILES NO PROBLEM BUT SAID IT COULD BE THROTTLE BODY THEY HAVE SEEN THAT BEFORE. ON 9/15/2013 WAS DRIVING CAR AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR WOULD ONLY MOVE SLOWLY. STOPPED SHUT OFF CAR RESTARTED BUT SAME THING. HAD CAR TOWED TOI SAME DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. LUCKLY I WAS ON A BACK ROAD WITH NO TRAFIC, IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD.
ON 8/3/13 I WAS DRIVING AT 45 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STARTED SHAKING AND I LOST ACCELERATION REGARDLESS OF THE POSITION OF THE GAS PEDAL. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AS YOU LOSE SPEED CONTROL WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
MY VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON I PULLED OVER AND TURNED IT OFF, RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME THE NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I DROVE IT INTO THE DEALER THAT I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM 6 WEEKS EARLIER AND THEY DETERMINED IT WAS THE THROTTLE MOTOR. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR HALF OF REPAIR AND I HAVE DISCOVERED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE AND I AM AFRAID IF THEY PUT IN THE SAME PART I WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM DOWN THE ROAD. *TR
DRIVING DOWN STREET, ENGINE SHUT OFF. THIS WOULD SPORADICALLY HAPPEN AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF TOWN. ERROR CODE P2112. ENGINE WOULD EITHER SHUT OFF COMPLETELY OR WOULD IDLE LOW AND ROUGH AND NOT MOVE, WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED, NO INCREASE IN RPM. *TR
DRIVING AROUND 60MPH AND CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATED TO PULL OVER I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE RODE AND PUT ON MY HAZZARD LIGHTS. I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND PLACED A CALL TO MY SON TO COME GET ME. I STARTED IT AGAIN AND TRIED TO GO AND IT STARTED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN AND THEN CALLED HUB CITY FORD WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY SAID THEY HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE CALL WITH THE PROBLEM BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL AS OF YET AND IT RUNS AROUND $765.00 TO REPAIR. I ASKED ABOUT WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THIS PARTICULAR PART WAS 3 YEAR OR 30,000 MILES. I EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE. *TR
CAR STALLED WITH A WRENCH ON DASHBOARD. HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN. TOOK LONGER TO START. *TR
WAS DRIVING AT 60 MPH IN THE FAST LANE ON THE FREEWAY, ENGINE LOST POWER FOR NO REASON. HAD NO SHOULDER TO PULL ONTO, HAD TO SHUT IGNITION OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH FAST APPROACHING CARS PASSING ME AND COMING UP BEHIND ME. RESTARTED CAR AND IT STARTED RUNNING FINE AGAIN. HAD THIS ONE TIME BEFORE THIS BUT NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. AFTER SOMEONE IS HURT THEN THEY WILL HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS FAULTY THROTTLE BODY! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER OR MECHANIC. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,189.

AS I AM DRIVING THE VEHICLE I LOOSE ALL POWER AND ACCELERATION WITHOUT WARNING OF ANY KIND. DIAGNOSTIC CODE READS A P 2111 (THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN) THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE BEEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHAT IT HAS. LUCK I WASN'T KILLED BY A SEMI. AS I SAID IT LOOSES POWER AND ACCELERATION AND STALLS OUT I HAVE LOOKED AROUND ONLINE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OUT THERE BUT NO RECALL FOR IT. WHY IS THIS? IF THERE ARE SO MANY OF THESE VEHICLES HAVING IDENTICAL PROBLEMS THAT THE PART TO THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IS ON BACK ORDER NATION WIDE THEN THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT NOT A PART FAILURE DO TO USE. DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING THE THROTTLE STOPPED WORKING WITH OUT WARNING. I HAD NO PROPULSION AND HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I THEN TURNED OFF MY CAR AND BACK ON AND THEN WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AS NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES, IT IS INTERMITTENT AND HAPPENS WITH OUT WARNING. *TR
AFTER BEING AT A STOPLIGHT, I WAS ACCELERATING AROUND A CORNER ABOUT 25 MPH AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT MY HAZARDS ON. I WAS QUICKLY ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND DRIVE HOME, ALTHOUGH THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWICE THE VERY NEXT DAY WHILE ACCELERATING AFTER BEING AT A STOPLIGHT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING FROM SAN DIEGO TO ORANGE COUNTY ON INTERSTATE 5, WHICH IS ALWAYS A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY AROUND 50 MPH WHEN THE CAR DID A SLIGHT HESITATION AND THEN A QUICK SURGE AND THEN LOST POWER. IT DID NOT DIE BUT WAS ONLY MOVING AT 4 MPH AND THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT HAVE ANY POWER, NO RESPONSE AT ALL. I WAS IN LANE 4 OF A 5 LANE HIGHWAY AND FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE LEFT AND PULL OFF IN THE CENTER OF THE INTERSTATE. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND SET THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES TRYING TO GAIN MY COMPOSURE. THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP AND SEEMED TO BE OKAY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY SAID IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM BUT WOULD TAKE 8 DAYS TO GET THE PART AND IT IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. THE THROTTLE BODY UNIT USUALLY DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED UNTIL 100,000 MILES. I HAVE 34,000 MILES AND MAINTAIN MY CAR AS RECOMMENDED BY THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AT MY FORD DEALERSHIP. I BELIEVE THE UNIT MUST BE DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. IT WAS EXTREMELY SCARY NOT KNOWING IF AT ANY MINUTE ANOTHER VEHICLE WOULD RUN INTO THE BACK OF MY CAR GOING 4 MPH ON A BUSY INTERSTATE! *TR
AT 35 MPH ENGINE RPM DECREASED TO IDLE AND I HAD TO STOP AND TURN OFF ENGINE AND RESTART. THIS THEN AGAIN HAPPENED AT A HIGHER SPEED THE ENGINE RPM DECREASING TO IDLE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF ROAD TO RESTART ENGINE. ON A BUSY ROAD THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
VEHICLE LOST POWER IN THRUWAY TRAFFIC. ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN, BUT NOT ABLE TO MAINTAIN SPEED. YELLOW SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND RED WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON DASHBOARD. HAD TO TURN OFF VEHICLE AND WAIT TO START. THEN POWER WAS FINE FOR ANOTHER 10 OR SO MINUTES, THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN.VERY DANGEROUS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR
VEHICLE WOULD STUTTER AND THEN STALL ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. HAPPENED ONCE ON THE FIRST DAY, TWICE ON THE SECOND, AND 5 TIMES (INCLUDING 3 ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP) ON THE THIRD DAY. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE, AS YOU ARE NEVER SURE WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE A "BAD THROTTLE BODY." *TR
I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 50-55 MPH AND GOING UPHILL WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE DESPITE TRYING TO PUMP THE PETAL. THE CAR DID NOT SHUT OFF COMPLETELY BUT IDLED ROUGHLY WITH THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ON. I HAD TO FLIP ON THE HAZARDS AND GET OVER THREE LANES OF SCARY TRAFFIC ON A BUSY VANCOUVER, BC HIGHWAY AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. THIS WAS THE 5TH TIME THIS HAPPENED IN 30 DAYS, WITH THE FIRST BEING ON THE SHIP CANAL BRIDGE IN SEATTLE, THE 2ND EXACTLY 7 DAYS LATER IN THE SAME SPOT, FOLLOWED BY TWICE IN ONE MORNING 2 WEEKS LATER ON THE WAY TO VANCOUVER. EACH TIME IT HAS BEEN OVER 50MPH AND GOING UPHILL, OR HAVING TO QUICKLY ACCELERATE TO GET PAST A SLOWER MOVING CAR. THE FORD DEALERSHIPS DON'T CARE AND JUST WANT TO CHARGE A FORTUNE TO FIX IT. I HAVEN'T READ FROM ANYONE IF THE NEW PART EVEN FIXES THE PROBLEM? I'M AT THE POINT WHERE I'M STRESSED ALL THE TIME DRIVING NEVER KNOWING WHERE IT WILL CRAP OUT AND AVOIDING HIGHWAYS AND ROADS WHERE THERE IS NO SHOULDER TO STOP ON. I LOVED THE CAR BUT AM TOO SCARED TO DRIVE IT SO I'VE STARTED TO TAKE THE BUS. FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR NOT TAKING IMMEDIATE ACTION ON THIS KNOWN PROBLEM! DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT 55 MPH WHEN VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION. GAS PEDAL WAS INEFFECTIVE. HAD TO COAST OFF ROAD, SHUT VEHICLE DOWN, RESTART IT AND WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. AT GARAGE WAS TOLD COST OF PART (EXPENSIVE) BUT PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED SINCE STALLING OR FAILURE TO ACCELERATE COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AT ANY TIME, AND THE VEHICLE MIGHT NOT "RECOVER". *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, CAR STOPPED. I SHUT OFF ENGINE WAITED AND RESTARTED. DROVE 35 MILES THIS WAY IN RUSHHOUR TRAFFIC. WENT AUTOZONE (AS FORD WAS CLOSED FOR DAY) AND HAD CODE PULLED. IT SAID ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. CANNOT GET PART FROM PARTS STORE, WILL TRY TO GET PART FROM DEALER. A FRIEND OF MINE WHO USE TO WORK FOR FORD SAID THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 750,000 REPLACED THROTTLE COMPONENTS FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. THIS LEFT ME IN A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION. *TR
WRENCH LIGHT LIT UP ON THE DASH, CAR DECELERATED AND STOPPED IN THE ROADWAY AND TRAFFIC. ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL. TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR 10 MINUTES. STARTED AGAIN AND DROVE IT HOME. COULD HAVE BEEN A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON A MORE CROWDED ROADWAY. BASED ON INTERNET RESEARCH, A RECALL ON THE THROTTLE BODY SHOULD BE ISSUED. *TR
AFTER SITTING A STOP LIGHT, WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS PUSHED TO GO THERE WAS NO POWER. ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO WENT ON. MECHANIC DIAGNOSED A THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION AND HAS REPLACED THE PART. THE CAR IS A ONE-OWNER, 3-YEAR OLD FORD ESCAPE. *TR

WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND THEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM AND IDLE POSITION THE VEHICLE WILL LOOSE POWER. BY THIS I MEAN THE VEHICLE STAYS ON, LIGHTS ON DASH REMAIN ON, MOTOR IS STILL RUNNING, BUT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAS NO EFFECT ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS SHUTTER TO IT. PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HAS NO EFFECT NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRY OR HOW MUCH TIME PASSES. YOU HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, AND RESTART THE VEHICLE TO GET THE GAS PEDAL WORKING AGAIN. THIS IS A VERY VERY DANGEROUS FLAW IN THE VEHICLE AS THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES IN BUSY LOS ANGELES INTERSECTIONS. I FEAR IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE FORD DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME $800 TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH HAS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE. THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS RECURRING AND VERY PROMINENT FLAW IN THEIR VEHICLE AND SAY EVEN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED FOR $2,200 WILL NOT COVER THIS PARTICULAR PART. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. HOPEFULLY YOU GUYS CAN BRING SOME JUSTICE TO THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DEALING WITH THIS EXACT ISSUE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING AT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY FORD ESCAPE SUDDENLY STALLED AND WOULD NO LONGER RESPOND WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR. MY SUV SLOWED TO A STOP WHERE I CUT IT OFF. UNFORTUNATELY, I DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPEED TO PULL OFF TO A SAFE LOCATION AND WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VERY BUSY HIGHWAY WHERE I WAS ALMOST SIDESWIPED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK. IT WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION TO SAY THE LEAST. THIS HAS SINCE HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES, THE MOST RECENT BEING YESTERDAY AUGUST 23 ON AN INTERSTATE OVERPASS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. AGAIN I DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPEED TO PULL OFF TO A SAFE LOCATION AND WAS STUCK IN THE CENTER LANE OF THE OVERPASS. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART MY CAR SOON AFTER STALLING OUT AND WAS ABLE TO AN AUTO STORE THAT PULLED THE CODE OF P2112, WHICH IS THE THROTTLE BODY CODE. OF COURSE MY WARRANTY RAN OUT IN JUNE 2013 AND FORD ESTIMATES THE REPAIR TO COST $500 MINIMUM. AND SADLY, I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE MY ESCAPE AS I FEAR IT WILL GET ME INTO AN ACCIDENT. WE WERE RIDING ON INTERSTATE 40 TRAVELING AT ABOUT 75MPH. MY 18 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. WE HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOT ANY TRAFFIC OR TRANSFER TRUCKS DIRECTLY BEHIND US. WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE 'WRENCH LIGHT' CAME ON. WE IMMEDIATELY DROPPED DOWN TO ABOUT 40 MPH. WE SAT BESIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND CALLED MY HUSBAND TO COME TO WHERE WE WERE. WE DID NOT ATTEMPT TO CRANK THE VEHICLE WHILE WAITING FOR HIM BECAUSE WE DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG AND FEARED CAUSING FURTHER DAMAGE (I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE THROTTLE/POWERTRAIN LIGHT WARNING). WHEN MY HUSBAND GOT THERE, WE CRANKED THE VEHICLE AND I DROVE US HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. I WAS AFRAID TO ALLOW MY SON TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE I FEARED THE SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I HATE TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD THERE BEEN ANOTHER CAR OR A TRANSFER TRUCK BEHIND US. DRIVING MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE ON HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. WAS LUCKY TO GET OFF HIGHWAY. TRIED TO START CAR FOR 10 MINUTES, FINALLY STARTED. WENT A FEW MILES AND MOTOR CUT OFF AGAIN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND COST INTO SHOPPING CENTER. AFTER ANOTHER 10 MINUTES IT STARTED AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT HOME. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS NEAR HOME AND NOT ON A TRIP. WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO FORD DEALER WHERE I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND NOT COVERED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IN THE OWNER'S GUIDE THE LIGHT FOR THE "WRENCH" (WHICH CAME ON WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) INDICATES "THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN". MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY IS STILL IN EFFECT. I WAS TOLD THAT "THEY" HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE AND JUST GOT A SHIPMENT IN WITH MANY "THROTTLE BODIES". THE COST TO ME WAS $761.62 (PARTS $432.02). I TALKED TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS A NUMBER OF TIMES ON 2010-2012 ESCAPES AND SENT EVERYONE TO FORD BECAUSE HE CAN'T FIX IT. NOT ONLY IS THIS AN APPARENT RECURRING PROBLEM IT IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
