TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE THERMOSTAT AND GASKET WERE LEAKING COOLANT. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V551000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
THE VEHICLE WILL SHUTDOWN DURING OPERATION AND LOSE ELECTRICAL POWER. THIS HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR. THE VEHICLE'S ECU WILL SHOW OVERHEATING AND ENGINE OVERHEATING DURING OPERATION AND SHUTDOWN. THE DTC HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND CLEARED SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO ANSWERS FOR THE ISSUES.
WINSHIELD WIPERS GETTING STUCK AND MISALLIGNED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. I NOTICED THE PASSENGER ONE WANTS TO WORK BUT THE FRIVER SIDE JUST GOT STUCK ON THE UPRIGHT POSITITON AND WHEN I PUT IT DOWN IT OFF THROWS THE ALLIGMENT AND WILL NOT LET THE PASSENGER SIDE MOVE EITHER
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, AN ALERT APPEARED STATING "LOW COOLANT". IN THE PAST THE CAR HAD STATED THE SAME ALERT BEFORE ALARMING THAT THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING AND NEEDED TO BE PULLED OVER. AT THAT POINT THE CAR WOULD THEN GOING INTO LIMP MODE. DUE TO THIS HISTORY, WE KNEW WE HAD TO ATTEMPT TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WITHIN ONE MINUTE, THE CAR DID ALARM "OVERHEATING" AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE. WE WERE ONLY ABLE TO GET TO THE LEFT HAND SHOULDER OF AN ON-RAMP (MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY). AT THIS POINT WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND FOUND THAT THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS NORMAL. AFTER WAITING 20 MINUTES WE DROVE IN REVERSE UP THE ON-RAMP TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY, BECAUSE WE WERE CONFIDENT WE COULD NOT SAFELY GET TO THE NEXT EXIT (SEVERAL MILES AWAY). WE THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER (PHIL LONG FORD OF DENVER). THIS IS THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE HAD PREVIOUSLY BROUGHT OUR VEHICLE TO REPAIR THIS SAME ISSUE. AT THAT TIME, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A BROKEN TEMPERATURE SENSOR, STATING THAT THIS WAS WHAT WAS CAUSING THE OVERHEATING ISSUES. OUR VEHICLE ALSO HAD MAINTENANCE COMPLETED ON IT AS PART OF THE 13S12 RECALL (RISK OF OVERHEATING) IN 2015. THE ISSUE CLEARLY HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED AFTER MULTIPLE "FIXES" HAVE BEEN PERFORMED.
CAR CONTINUED TO SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING LOCKING UP STEERING, BRAKES, ETC. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO TUNKHANNOCK FORD ON 10/24 AND REMAINED THERE UNTIL 5 P.M. ON 10/27. TOLD WAS DOING IT FOR THEM. I'M INFORMED BY A TUNKHANNOCK FORD EMPLOYEE, THE CAR WAS ONLY TAKEN OUT OFF LOT & TEST 1 TIME. ON 10/28, MY WIFE, 4 & 8 YR. OLD ARE DRIVING & THE CAR STOPPED 7 TIMES TOTAL ON ROUTE 6 IN TUNKHANNOCK WHERE A TRUCK DRIVER GOT OUT AND ASSISTED MY WIFE AS SHE WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH FLASHERS ON. AFTER ARGUING WITH THE SERVICE WRITER, SALES MANAGER FOR COMPROMISING THE SAFETY OF MY WIFE AND DAUGHTERS - I WAS STILL DENIED A LOANER VEHICLE WHERE WE PAID ENTERPRISE FOR A RENTAL IN ORDER TO GET TO WORK. I REQUESTED A LOANER FROM THEIR OTHER TUNKHANNOCK DEALERSHIP AND WAS STILL DENIED AND ALL I WAS TOLD BY MATT KERR, SALES MANAGER IS "I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERN, I HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN ALSO BUT IT'S OUT OF MY HANDS." EFFECTIVE TODAY 11/3/17, THEY STILL HAVE OUR SPARE KEY & HAVE YET TO CALL TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE APPOINTMENT THAT I DID NOT GO TO SCHEDULED FOR 10/30/17. I CALLED MONTROSE MOTORS OWNED BY THE SAME PREVIOUS OWNER OF GATEWAY FORD WHERE THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED AND THEY GOT IT IN IMMEDIATELY - PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE HASSLE FREE AND SAID MANY LOYAL CUSTOMERS HAVE LEFT TUNKHANNOCK FORD FOR THEIR CRUDENESS WITH SERVICE BY WRITING UP WORK ORDERS FOR LOYAL CUSTOMERS BRINGING THEIR VEHICLES IN FOR AIR - WE DON'T CARE HOW LONG THEY NEEDED TO ASSESS THE CAR - OUR FORMAL COMPLAINT WHICH WE ARE PURSUING IS TUNHANNOCK FORD HAS JEPORADIZED THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF MY FAMILY - ESPECIALLY MY 2 DAUGHTERS BY DENYING ME A LOANER VEHICLE
INITIALLY I HAD BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND OFF. INITIALLY WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE LOOKED AT, BY THE HUNT FORD IN LA PLATA, MD. THEY CHANGED THE OXYGEN SENSOR. SO THE LIGHT WENT OFF. THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER IN 2016 THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. EVENTUALLY I STARTED DRIVING AND HEARD A 'POP' NOISE IN THE ENGINE AREA. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE ACCELERATION AND WOULD HESITATE. THEN EVENTUALLY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STARTED BLINKING. PRIOR TO THE ENGINE LIGHT BLINKING THE CAR BEGIN TO MISFIRE, HESITATE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, AND THE ENGINE WOULD OVERHEAT FROM TIME TO TIME PREMATURELY. THE CAR WOULD SOMETIMES STALL AND MISFIRE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE OR WHEN SITTING IDLE. WHEN I LOOKED ONLINE IT SHOWS A RECALL FOR THESE SPECIFIC ISSUES FOR THE SAME MAKE, MODEL & YEAR, BUT NOT FOR MY SPECIFIC ENGINE LITER. FOR EXAMPLE, IT SHOWS THE ENGINE OVERHEATING AND ENGINE WIRING SPLICES MAY CAUSE STALL FOR 2013 FORD ESCAPES BUT ONLY FOR 1.6L. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUES AS THOSE LISTED UNDER THE RECALL, BUT MY ENGINE IS A 2.0L. AT ONE POINT I BEGAN TO SEE WHITE SMOKE ONCE THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO BLINK, AND SMELLED FUMES. NOT TOO LONG AFTER THAT BEGAN TO OCCUR I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR STARTED TO MISFIRE AND STALL.

FOR EXAMPLE, IT SHOWS THE ENGINE OVERHEATING, MISFIRES AND ENGINE WIRING SPLICES MAY CAUSE STALL FOR 2013 FORD ESCAPES BUT ONLY FOR 1.6L. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING VERY SIMILAR ISSUES AS THOSE LISTED UNDER THE RECALL, BUT MY ENGINE IS A 2.0L. SO WHILE ON MY WAY HOME FRIDAY, 10/27/2017, I STARTED TO HAVE ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING ON PENNSYLVANIA AVE TOWARDS DC, WHEN I REACHED AN INTERSECTION (SOUTHERN AVE), AND THE CAR STARTED TO JERK AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED BLINKING. AT ONE POINT I BEGAN TO SEE WHITE SMOKE ONCE THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO BLINK, AND SMELLED FUMES. NOT TOO LONG AFTER THAT BEGAN TO OCCUR, I MAKE A U-TURN AT THE LIGHT AND PULLED OVER IN FRONT OF THE FUNERAL HOME. BEFORE I WAS PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (WHILE MAKING THE U-TURN) THE CAR STARTED TO MISFIRE AND STALL. SO I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, AND CALLED AAA TO HAVE IT TOWED. A FEW DAYS LATER I HAD A MECHANIC COME AND RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE VEHICLE AT THE HOME. I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF THEIR REPORT.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT A CITY INTERSECTION THAT NEARLY RESULTED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. FAILURE ALERT APPEARED ON THE DASH SO I HAD IT TOWED HOME. WHEN STARTING IT UP TO PULL INTO THE GARAGE, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY RETURNED. FORD ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE FOR 2013 EXPLORERS (#14S05), BUT WILL NOT COVER THE ESCAPE.
WHILE DRIVING LOW COOLANT AND ENGINE OVER-HEATED WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND CAR QUIT.UNDER SOME TRAFFIC CONDITIONS SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH COULD RESULT.
THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. AND I GOT IT CHECK AND IT SAYS THE COOLANT SENSOR WAS NOT WORKING BUT THE LIGHT CAME ON SAYING LOW COOLANT AND IT WAS NOT. SOMTHING IS WRONG WITH IT.
HEAT GAUGE GOES TO NORMAL BUT LITTLE TO NO HEAT. AIR CONDITIONER HAD TO BE REPAIRED BY MIKE BASS FORD SHEFFIELD OHIO I HAVE CHANGED ROTORS ,CALIPERS AND BRAKE PADS 2 TIMES IN 2 YEARS AND 8000 MILES I PURCHASED THE CAT 09/28/2017 WITH 30849 MILES
I WAS DRIVING DOWN I49, SHREVEPORT, LA. AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, HIGH TEMPATURE WARNING CAME ON FOLLOWED BY ENGINE FAILURE WARNING, AS I WAS MAKING MY WAY TO THE ROADSIDE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. STEAM STARTED COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, WHEN THE VEHICAL CAME TO A STOP, I POPPED THE HOOD, AS I GOT OUT OF THE CAR I NOTICED A SMALL AMOUNT OF BLUE SMOKE, FOLLOWED BY BLACK SMOKE, I DID NOT OPEN HOOD, 30 SECONDS LATTER FLAMES WERE SHOOTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, I CALLED 911 AS THE FLAMES ENGULFED THE FRONT OF THE CAR
GREETINGS, I HAVE A FORD ESCAPE 2013, 2.5 LITERS, AND I ALMOST CRASHED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE SUFFERED AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION. IN THE SCREEN OF THE CAR IT SAID: "MOTOR DAMAGE, TURN OFF". THIS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO LOOSE MY LIFE, BECAUSE THE CAR LOST ALL THE ENERGY, STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND THE MOTOR WAS HESITATING. I LOOKED FOR A RECALL AND I FOUND A FORD NUMBER 14S17-S1 BUT THAT RECALL IS FOR 2.0 LITER AND MY FORD ESCAPE 2013 IS 2.5 WHICH MEANS THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME ELECTRICAL WIRE THAT IS RECALLED FROM THE 2.0. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO FIND AN ANSWER, BUT THE CAR DOES THIS MALFUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY AND ONCE YOU TURN IT BACK ON THE CODE DISAPPEARS LIKE IF NOTHING WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. I TOOK THE PAPER OF THE RECALL TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY CANT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE CODE DISAPPEARED AND MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME SYSTEM OF THE 2.0 LITER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ENGINE COOLANT CONSTANTLY HAD TO BE ADDED TO THE COOLANT RESERVOIR EVERY TEN DAYS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF A COOLANT LEAK ON THE GROUND UNDER THE VEHICLE OR ANY ODOR OF BURNING COOLANT. THE "ENGINE COOLANT LOW SERVICE REQUIRED" WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (ATCHINSON FORD, 9800 BELLEVILLE RD, BELLEVILLE, MI 48111). THE DEALER REPLACED THE COOLANT, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-392-3673 AND STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE SINCE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER ASKED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA. A CASE NUMBER WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR ENTERED THROUGH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE OIL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER INTO A PARKING LOT. THE CONTACT AND PASSENGER EXITED THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED SMOKE UNDER THE VEHICLE AND OIL LEAKING PROFUSELY FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE LOCAL DEALER (CROWN FORD, 420 MERRICK RD, LYNBROOK, NY, 11563, 516-599-0600) DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE OIL HAD JUST BEEN CHANGED TWO WEEKS PRIOR AT CHATHAM FORD (781 MAIN ST, CHATHAM, MA, 02633, 508-945-0500). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED ON THE HIGHWAY, THE STEERING COLUMN SEIZED. IN ADDITION, THE LIFTGATE OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTONATION FORD MIAMI (16800 NW 57TH AVE, HIALEAH, FL) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING AND RACK AND PINION WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS 13322662. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA DUE TO THEM STATING THAT THE FEDERAL AGENCY WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ADDING RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATLEY 63,606.
TSB 16-0052 INDICATES A DEFECTIVE PART THAT CAN CAUSE ENGINE SHUTDOWN FROM LOSS OF COOLANT. THIS CAN BE SUDDEN AND IS, THEREFORE, A SAFETY ISSUE. LOSS OF ENGINE ON A FREEWAY AT SPEED IN TRAFFIC CAN CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL, NOT A TSB. THE FIRST INDICATION IS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.
I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY AT 65MPH AND THE ENGINE CUTS OUT TO AN IDLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED GETTING THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SINCE IT LOST ALL POWER. AFTER PULLING OVER I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AS THE LIGHT WENT OUT. THIS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES WHERE THE CAR WOULD CUT OUT TO A ROUGH IDLE, THESE OCCURRED WHILE I WAS ON CITY STREETS BUT ALMOST CAUSED 1 ACCIDENT AS IT CUT OUT. AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF IT WOULD RESTART WITH NO ISSUE. THIS LAST TIME THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO PLANET FORD TO BE REPAIRED. THEY SAID IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE AND IT COST ME OVER 700 FOR THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I DO NOT SEE WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THE CAR BEING UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I DO NOT KNOW WHY THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART ALONE WILL NOT CAUSE FURTHER STALLS OF THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE FOUND OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE WHERE THE CAR GOES INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE. I AM CURRENTLY HAVING THE CAR REPAIRED OR I WOULD BE ABLE TO ATTACH THE INVOICE FOR THE THROTTLE BODY REPAIR.
BOTH WINDSHIELD WIPERS DON'T ALWAYS WORK AT THE SAME TIME. VERY OFTEN ONE OR THE OTHER WILL COMPLETELY STOP IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THEY HAVE COLLIDED A FEW TIMES AND ONCE THE WIPER BLADE FLEW OFF FROM BEING HIT BY THE OTHER WIPER. THERE IS NO PATTERN TO THIS PROBLEM. IT HAPPENS IN LIGHT RAIN, HEAVY RAIN, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR STOPPED. THE WIPERS HAVE STOPPED COMPLETELY IN HEAVY RAIN CAUSING A VERY HAZARDOUS SITUATION. TWO NEARBY DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD US THAT NO CODE COMES UP AND THAT EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM WAS WITNESSED IN THE PARKING LOT BY STAFF, IT COULDN'T BE REPLICATED IN THE SHOP. THEREFORE, THEY COULD DO NOTHING. WE HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH THIS FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW AND THE PROBLEM IS JUST GETTING WORSE. THANKFULLY, WE HAVEN'T HAD AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. A RECALL WOULD BE APPROPRIATE.
I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD, MY BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON THEN MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THEN IT STARTED BEEPING AND SAID MY ENGINE WAS OVER HEATING. GOT PULLED OVER AND HAD TO GET IT TOWED. CAR WOULD START BUT WOULD NOT MOVE. MECHANIC TOLD ME THE WATER PUMP LOCKED UP AND BROKE A BELT. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMMENTS OF PEOPLE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS
CAR CONTINUOUSLY OVERHEATS. HAVE HAD IT TO 2 DIFFERENT MECHANICS THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. NO LEAKS, NO BAD HOSES. HAD PAID ABOUT 500.00 TO CITRUS FORD OF ONTARIO FOR A CROSSOVER VALVE TO STOP THE OVER HEATING. NOT YET CORRECTED. OVER HEATED TODAY 10/4/17 WHILE MOVING ABOUT A HALF MILE FROM WHERE I LEFT IN A MATTER OF 5 MINUTES. I READ OF A RECALL ON THE SAME MODEL OF HAVING COOLING ISSUES BUT MY VIN EVIDENTLY DOESN'T FALL WITHIN THE PARAMETERS. OTHERWISE UNKNOWN REASON WHY IT IS OVER HEATING

ON 9/7/17 MY CAR OVERHEATED DUE TO NO COOLANT IN TANK, THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR FILLED THE COOLANT TANK AND GAVE ME AN OIL CHANGE. ON 12/29/17 CAR OVERHEATED AGAIN DUE TO NO COOLANT IN TANK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT TO WINNER FORD IN CHERRY HILL AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON DUE TO CAR NEEDED A NEW COOLANT BYPASS SOLENOID VALVE, WHICH I PAID TO HAVE FIX. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THEY DID A PRESSURE CHECK AND CONCLUDED THAT THE CAR WAS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE DUE TO A CRACK IN THE DEGAS BOTTLE. I PAID FOR A NEW DEGAS BOTTLE AND THE PAPERWORK STATES THE SYSTEM WAS REFILLED AND CAR IS NO LONGER LEAKING COOLANT. TWO WEEKS LATER (JAN 18TH, 2018), I START MY CAR AND THE OVERHEAT MESSAGE IS DISPLAYING, I CHECK UNDER THE HOOD AND THE COOLANT TANK IS EMPTY! NOW THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS STATING THE HVAC HEATER HOSE (CV6Z18472S) IS LEAKING AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER WITH FORD UNTIL THE END OF FEBRUARY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, I CAN NOT BE WITHOUT A CAR FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH. MY CAR IS ONLY FIVE YEARS OLD, WHY ARE THE PARTS ON BACK ORDER FOR SUCH A LENGTHY TIME. IS THERE AN ISSUE WITH THESE CARS? WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70 MPH (SPEED LIMIT), THE ENGINE ON MY CAR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING CUT OUT. A MESSAGE OF 'YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK' APPEARED. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE MY WAY ONTO THE BERM OF THE ROAD, CLOSE TO AN EXIT ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CAR'S MOMENTUM. THE CAR'S ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, WAITED A MOMENT TO CALM MY NERVES, AND THEN RESTARTED THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME, HOLDING MY BREATH THE ENTIRE TIME, UNCERTAIN WHETHER I WOULD ENCOUNTER THE SAME PROBLEM. CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM - UNKNOWN. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. TWICE BEFORE, THIS CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. THE CAR WOULD "BUCK" AS IF IT WASN'T GETTING ANY FUEL. THE SECOND VISIT RESULTED IN NO ACTION FROM THE SERVICE DEPT. AS THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE ISSUE. I ASKED SPECIFICALLY ABOUT CODES FROM THE CAR'S COMPUTER, BUT WAS TOLD THERE WEREN'T ANY. I FOUND THIS SURPRISING BECAUSE I DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED AND THE "CHECK ENGINE" MESSAGE WAS ON THE ENTIRE TRIP THERE.
VEHICLE WAS GOING UP HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH (TEMPERATURE GAUGE NORMAL) WHEN, WITHOUT WARNING, AN ALERT STATED THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS LOW. IMMEDIATELY AFTER, A SECOND WARNING CAME ON SAYING THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY (NO LONGER ABLE TO ACCELERATE). THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS LOW, BUT HAD BEEN FILLED LESS THAN 3 MONTHS PRIOR. THERE ARE NO VISIBLE LEAKS OR CRACKS IN THE COOLANT RESERVOIR, TUBES, ETC. AFTER WAITING FOR 30 MINUTES, WE PROCEEDED TO COAST DOWN THE HILL IN NEUTRAL (AFTER FILLING THE COOLANT TANK WITH WATER). WE THEN BOUGHT COOLANT AT A LOCAL STORE AND PROCEEDED TO GO BACK UP THE HILL. THE CAR GAVE US THE SAME WARNINGS (COOLANT LOW AND ENGINE OVERHEATING). WE WERE UNABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THANKFULLY A POLICE OFFICER WAS RIGHT BEHIND US, SO WE DID NOT GET HIT. HE OFFERED TO USE THE BATTERING RAM ON THE FRONT HIS CAR TO PUSH US TO SAFETY. HOWEVER, THE CAR WAS ABLE TO GO THE EXTRA 5 FEET WHEN RESTARTED, PRIOR TO IT OVERHEATING AND LOCKING UP AGAIN. AFTER AN ADDITIONAL 30 MINUTES WE AGAIN WENT DOWN THE HILL IN NEUTRAL. AT THIS POINT WE DECIDED TO GIVE THE CAR A BREAK AND ATE DINNER AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT (APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR). WE THEN PROCEEDED TO DRIVE HOME. ABOUT AN HOUR INTO THE TRIP (WHILE GOING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR AGAIN GAVE US THE 2 ALERTS (LOW COOLANT AND CAR OVERHEATING). WE BARLEY WERE ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY SAFELY. COOLANT LEVEL NORMAL. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. FOR MONTHS NOW I'VE BEEN FEELING TIRED AND DROWSY WHILE DRIVING IN THE CAR-AT TIMES FIGHTING TO KEEP MY EYES OPEN. I RECENTLY SAW THE NEWS ABOUT CARBON MONOXIDE LEAK IN FORD EXPLORERS AND THINK MY CAR MAY ALSO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. AFTER I SAW THE STORY I DROVE WITH MY WINDOW OPEN AND DID NOT FEEL THE DROWSINESS THAT I HAVE FELT THE LSAT FEW MONTHS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE INVESTIGATION EXTEND BEYOND JUST THE FORD EXPLORER BUT THROUGH ALL OF FORD'S OTHER MODELS LIKE THE FORD ESCAPE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS AND LIFE THREATENING ISSUE.

IVE READ ABOUT THE RECALL OF THIS MODEL IN THE 2.0 L 2013 ESCAPE OF THE RELAY HARNESS NO WIRED CORECTLY AND CAN CAUSE THE COMPUTER MODULE TO RESET CAUSING A PAUSE IN POWER FROM OVERHEATING THE MODEM. I'VE BEEN CONCERNED THAT I'VE HAD A CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD EVER SINCE THE 13S12 RECALL IN 2014. IN RECENT YEARS, THE COOLANT LOSS ISSUE HAD ACCELERATED DRAMATICALLY. IT IS UNPREDICTABLE. AND WHEN IT HAPPENS, THE COOLANT WILL SUDDENLY GO FROM AN OK LEVEL TO SUBSTANTIALLY BELOW MINIMUM. FURTHERMORE, THE ENGINE HAS A PERSISTENT BURNING SMELL OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. I'VE HAD TO DRIVE AROUND WITH A JUG OF COOLANT AND A PLASTIC SOLO CUP TO REFILL THE COOLANT TANK WHENEVER THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT LIGHTS UP. OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS, I'VE HAD TO REFILL THE COOLANT AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES. I DO HOPE THE NHTSA FORCES FORD TO DO THE RIGHT THING HERE.
MY CAR HAS RAN A 100% SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. I WENT TO GO MOVE MY CAR AFTER I CUT MY GRASS AND INSTANTLY MY POWER STEERING SENSOR WENT OFF AS SOON AS I STARTED MY CAR STATING THAT IT REQUIRED SERVICE DUE TO IT NOT WORKING. JUST LIKE THAT. NO EARLIER WARNINGS, NO MALFUNCTIONS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, NOTHING. I AM A MOTHER OF 4 DAUGHTERS AND THANKFULLY I WAS JUST TRYING TO REPOSITION MY VEHICLE IN MY YARD VS. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD OR ELSE IT COULD HAVE CAUSED SEVERE BODILY HARM TO US OR EVEN WORSE, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN DEATH. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED EVEN WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, MAKE, AND YEAR HAVING THIS EXACT PROBLEM, THIS IS NOT A RECALL YET. I RESEARCHED IT MYSELF AND FOUND OUT THAT THE 2013 FORD FUSION ALSO HAS THIS PROBLEM, BUT THERE IS CURRENTLY AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THE FUSION, BUT NOT THE ESCAPE. I AM CONFUSED ON THIS. ARE THEY WAITING ON A DEATH TOLL TO RISE DUE TO FORD'S MALFUNCTIONING PART AND A LAWSUIT BEFORE THEY DECIDE THAT THIS IS A REAL SERIOUS ISSUE OR IS IT BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF CONCERN FOR FORDS CUSTOMERS AND FAMILIES THEY HAD WHEN THEY DECIDED TO USE THIS POORLY PLANNED ELECTRICAL DESIGN THAT IS CONTINUOUSLY MALFUNCTIONING? OR MAYBE ITS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THIS IS A BIG ISSUE AND CHARGING CUSTOMERS OVER $1700.00 TO FIX THIS POORLY PLANNED PRODUCT THAT IS GOING TO COST SOMEONE THEIR LIVES WAS GOING TO MAKE THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT REVENUE SKY RISE WITH THIS POWER STEERING PROBLEM BEING HIGH IN DEMAND. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY ONE MODEL OF FORD WITH THE SAME YEAR IS ON RECALL FOR THIS, BUT THE OTHER MODEL WITH THE EXACT SAME SET UP AND YEAR IS NOT. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 4 DAUGHTERS THAT IS STILL PAYING ON THIS $19,000.00 VEHICLE THAT IS NOW PARKED IN MY YARD BECAUSE IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX. THANKS FORD!!!
VEHICLE NEVER SHIFTED CORRECTLY. COMPLAINED TO DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES. TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 104000 MILES. VEHICLE BROKE DOWN ON MAJOR INTERSTATE 100 MILES AWAY FROM HOME. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO NEAREST DEALER. COST TO REPAIR WAS 5000+
FIRST INCIDENT: AUGUST 3RD 2016 WHILE DRIVING 50MPH CAR DISPLAYED A ENGINE OVERHEATING WARNING MESSAGE AND SLOWED DOWN AS I PULLED OFF THE ROAD. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN AND THE MESSAGE DID NOT REAPPEAR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO KEARNEY PERSON FORD 7303 CLAIREMONT MESA BLVD SAN DIEGO, CA 92111 THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND TURNED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OFF. SECOND INCIDENT: DRIVING TO WORK EARLIER THIS YEAR 2017 I GOT THE SAME MESSAGE THAT MY ENGINE COOLANT WAS LOW, AND TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE OF CRITICAL OVERHEATING, EVEN THOUGH I HAD JUST HAD THE CAR SERVICED FOR A REGULAR MAINTENANCE CHECK, ONCE AGAIN AT KEARNY PERSON FORD. I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY ON A ROAD AT AROUND 30-40MPH BUT ACCELERATING WHEN THE MESSAGE POPPED UP. I REFILED THE COOLANT AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT TURN ON. THIRD INCIDENT: THIS WAS THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME. CRITICAL ENGINE OVERHEATING MESSAGE AND LOW COOLANT MESSAGE POPPED UP WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING UP HILL IN TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 20MPH ON THE I-5S AT THE IN CALIFORNIA GRAPEVINE. THE ENGINE NEARLY SHUT OFF AND LIMPED ON JUST A COUPLE CYLINDERS AS I TRIED TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE ENGINE WAS HOT. IT ALL HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE TEMP GAUGE WAS NORMAL AND THEN BAM! OVERHEATED WITH WARNING MESSAGES CRIPPLING THE CAR. DRIVING SLOWLY BUT THE WEATHER WAS HOT IT WAS NEARLY 110 DEGREES OUTSIDE. SEEMS SUPER DANGEROUS. BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF WARNING WHEN THESE INCIDENTS HAPPEN. THE WAY THAT THE COOLANT JUST DISAPPEARS, AND THE SMOKE AND CHANCE OF FIRE.
