TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATE THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO AN UNDISCLOSED OBJECT. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING INSPECTION OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 750.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 69 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE GEARS WOULD NOT ENGAGE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ONCE THE GEARS HAD ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A PREMATURE COOLANT LEAK. THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE COOLANT VALVE PREMATURELY FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER EXCLUDED THE VEHICLE FROM A RECALL TO ADDRESS THE COOLANT VALVE. THE DEALER ASKED THE CONTACT TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AFTER RECEIVING THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN CLOSING THE REAR HATCH USING THE INSIDE HANDLE, THE FLAIR AT THE BASE OF THE DOOR HIT ME ON THE BRIDGE OF THE NOSE. MY GLASSES WERE KNOCKED TO THE GROUND AFTER THEY CUT INTO THE SKIN. I HAD TO HAVE 4 STITCHES TO CLOSE THE WOUND. THE DOOR IS DIFFICULT TO CLOSE FROM THE OUTSIDE WITHOUT USING THE INTERIOR HANDLE, BUT BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF THE HANDLE AND THE LENGTH OF THE DOOR FROM BOTTOM EDGE TO HANDLE, IT IS LONGER THAN A TYPICAL REAR HATCH. I WAS INJURED IMMEDIATELY AFTER RENTING THIS CAR AND HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. *TR
ON AUGUST 30, 2013, I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO PULL INTO A DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. LUCKILY, I WAS AT THE DRIVEWAY AND IT WAS DOWNHILL SO THE CAR ROLLED IN. I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON AT FIRST. I CALLED THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN. I DID AND THEY SAID SOME PEOPLE HAD COMPLAINED OF THIS ISSUE BUT IT WASN'T A RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN. THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND TOLD ME I SHOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. THEY COULDN'T TELL ME THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. NOW I AM LEFT TO WORRY THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. NOT ACCEPTABLE. YESTERDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AS I WAS STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS? I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 9 MONTHS. I AM PAST FRUSTRATED. THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T SEEM CONCERNED AT ALL ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON. $36,000 DOLLARS AND I AM LEFT WITH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. *JS
WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, CAR JUMPS/LUNGES FORWARD. IT FEELS AS THOUGH SOMEONE IS HITTING IT FROM BEHIND. *JB
WHILE SITTING IN A DRIVE-THRU WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, CAR LUNGED FORWARD. IT FEELS AS THOUGH SOMEONE HITS YOU FROM BEHIND. *JB
VEHICLE STALLS, CUTS OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON. MOST RECENTLY ON AN EXIT RAMP, ALMOST GOT HIT FROM BEHIND. WILL USUALLY START RIGHT BACK UP AND RUN NORMALLY. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 WEEKS. DEALER COULD FIND NO CODES, LEFT AT DEALERSHIP OVER WEEKEND, BUT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN FOR THEM. MY SISTER HAS THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, AND PROBLEM. *JS
I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT, COASTING, WHEN THE ENGINE DIED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AFTER PUTTING IT INTO PARK. THE ISSUE HAS HAPPENED TWICE MORE, ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY, ONCE ON A CITY STREET. BOTH TIMES HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS COASTING. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY AND RESTART THE CAR. SEPARATELY, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE ROUGH ENGINE START SO MANY OTHERS ON THIS WEBSITE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT. THE SEQUENCE IS YOU TURN ON THE ENGINE, IT IDLES ROUGHLY, CAN'T ACCELERATE AWAY FROM THE CURB, AND JERKS FORWARD WHEN YOU TRY. YOU HAVE TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE, LET IT CALM ITSELF DOWN AND RESTART. SOMETIMES IT'S FINE, SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO REPEAT. I MENTIONED IT WHEN WE TOOK IT IN FOR ITS FIRST SERVICE, BUT FORD DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I'M SHOCKED THAT NEITHER FORD NOR THE GOVERNMENT HAS DONE ANYTHING, DESPITE DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS OF EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE. THAT IS NOT A STATISTICAL FLUKE, IT IS DEFECTIVE VEHICLE AND I HOPE NEITHER FORD NOR THIS AGENCY SCREW UP AGAIN THE WAY GM AND THIS AGENCY DID WITH THE IGNITION ISSUE. *TR
2013 FORD ESCAPE 2.0 ECOBOOST STALLED AT A STOP SIGN 8/21/13. THE CAR STEREO SHUT OFF FIRST THEN A OIL LIGHT WENT ON AND THE CAR COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART THE CAR LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WERE ERROR CODES BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NOTHING WAS FIXED TOLD US TO KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WE WERE NOT HAPPY. TODAY 9/7/13, THIS TIME THE CAR STALLED AT A STOPLIGHT, BUT THE POWER STAYED ON OIL LIGHT WAS ON. THERE WERE NO RPMS. HAD TO PUT CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. WE STARTED TO DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT STALLED A 2ND TIME ABOUT A HALF MILE AWAY SAME ISSUE EVERY TIME THE RED OIL LIGHT APPEARS. WE HAVE NO ANSWER TO WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM.
THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL ARE SO CLOSE TOGETHER THAT WHEN YOU PUSH ON THE BRAKE, YOU COULD ALSO BE PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL IF YOU HAVE NORMAL SIZED FEET. THIS CAUSES THE ENGINE TO RACE AND YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE HARDER WHICH PUSHES DOWN THE GAS PEDAL MORE AND CAUSES THE ENGINE TO RACE MORE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE IN THE LAST MONTH. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON THE SHOULDER AND BEFORE THE KEYS WERE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION, FLAMES ENGULFED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,617.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A BUILDING. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,440.
I STARTED THE CAR AND AN "ENGINE FAULT FAILURE SERVICE NOW" CAME ONE. WHEN TRYING TO BACK UP IT WOULD IDLE VERY ROUGHLY AND JUMP FORWARD. WHEN YOU TURN IT OFF AND RE-START IT, IT WORKS FINE AGAIN. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS CAR. IT WAS JUST SERVICED LAST WEEK FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AND A MAP SENSOR WAS REPLACED. *TR
THE ENGINE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY IS CRACKING AT THE HOLDING SCREWS. I NOTIFIED FORD AND THEY REFUSE TO HONOR WARRANTY. REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MGR. [XXX] FOR FORD BASED IN PHOENIX IS DENYING CLAIM INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TWICE, WHILE BACKING UP, THE ENGINE HAS STALLED. THERE IS NO HESITATION OR WARNING FROM THE ENGINE THAT A STALL IS IMMINENT. THE ENGINE JUST CUTS OFF. CAR WILL RESTART FINE WITH NO ISSUES. IT HAPPENS EITHER WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM OR COLD. *TR
AFTER DRIVING A 1/2 MILE FROM MY HOME MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE OVERHEATED AND SAID "STOP SAFELY TEMPERATURE HIGH" OR SOMETHING TO THAT EXTENT. THE VEHICLE THEN BECAME INOPERABLE AND I MANAGED TO COAST TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE COOLANT CAP HAD EXPLODED OFF THE TANK AND MY MOTOR WAS COVERED WITH FLUID. THE DEALERSHIP KEEP MY CAR FOR 5 DAYS AND COULD NOT FIND A DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY DID MANAGE TO ADD 100 MILES TO IT AND USE ALL MY GAS. PRESENTLY THE VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE BURNT COOLANT WHILE DRIVING IT AND NOW IDLES HIGH IN PARK. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR SAFETY REASONS. FORD HAS NOT OFFERED ANY RESOLUTION OR HELP. I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. THEY SAY MY VIN WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL BUT I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE AND I AM DRIVING AROUND IN A TICKING FIRE HAZARD. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON MANETTO HILL ROAD IN PLAINVIEW, NY WHEN VEHICLE STALLED. NO POWER TO THE ACCELERATOR. KEPT PRESSING THE GAS, AND THE CAR DIDN'T MOVE. NO WARNING CHIMES, NO APPEARANCE OF ANYTHING WRONG-RADIO WAS PLAYING, AC, ETC. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER (ROLL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD), PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT. THE COMPUTER THEN SHOWED "ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW" DROVE TO A LOCAL GAS STATION, THOUGH THE CAR WAS BUCKING AND DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO DEALERSHIP SERVICE STATION. HAVE LEARNED THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE TSB'S ISSUED FOR MY CAR, BUT NO RECALL. PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE SO THE CAR REMAINS AT DEALERSHIP SERVICE STATION. I WAS LUCKY I WAS NOT IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC OR ON/GETTING ON OR OFF A HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR DIED. I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED THEN. *TR
MY WIFE AND 6 YEAR OLD GRAND DAUGHTER WERE TRAVELING EAST BOUND HIGHWAY 190 AND VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING FROM THE VENTS AND SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC. MY WIFE WRESTLED THE STALLED CAR TO THE MEDIA WHERE ITT DIED. I HAD JUST TRADED A 2011 ESCAPE WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM. NO LIGHTS, NO WARNING, IF GAS IS NOT ACCELERATED I HAVE LOST ENGINE 4 TIMES. 3 TIMES IT WOULDN'T START WHILE PARKED, AND 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE STALLED COMPLETELY, NO WARNING ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN CHICAGO. I DROVE STRAIGHT TO DEALER AND LEFT IT THERE, HAD TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL IF I LET OFF THE GAS IN ORDER TO REV ENGINE TO KEEP FROM STALLING A 5TH TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER AND OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS. THE DEALER (FAIR OAKS FORD, NAPERVILLE, IL) IS TELLING ME THERE ARE NO 'CODES' SHOWING ANYTHING IS WRONG. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND HAS 7,000 MILES. I HAVE BROUGHT VEHICLE IN TWICE FOR THE SAME ISSUES, THUS FAR TO NO AVAIL. I CANNOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION. IT'S UNSAFE AND THERE IS NO REMEDY. *TR
FILLING VEHICLE UP WITH GAS PUMP ON AUTOMATIC. AFTER GAS PUMP CLICKED OFF, REMOVED NOZZLE FROM VEHICLE AND GAS SHOT OUT OF GAS TANK FILLER NECK ALL OVER ME. HAPPENED TWICE AT 2 DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY, AND STAYS ON FOR ABOUT 48 HOURS. WHEN I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY CANNOT FIND OUT WHY THE LIGHT IS COMING ON BECAUSE THE CODE IS NO LONGER VISIBLE. THE CAR IDLES ROUGH AND CUTS OFF WHEN THE CAR IS WARM AND I'M STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, AT A RED LIGHT FOR EXAMPLE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE MY CAR CUT OFF IN INNER-CITY TRAFFIC. IT ALSO OCCURRED ONCE WHEN I WAS TRYING TO START THE CAR AFTER BEING OFF FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. I HAD TO START IT 3 TIMES IN ORDER FOR IT TO STAY ON. EACH TIME, IT IDLED VERY ROUGHLY AND CUT OFF WITHIN A FEW SECONDS. *TR

VEHICLE MILEAGE 4850 - WEATHER CONDITION: ABOUT 85 DEG - HUMID - 10:00~11:00 AM - SECOND WEEK IN JULY 2013 2ND INCIDENT: WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 25 MPH AND REDUCING SPEED TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT THE ENGINE STOPPED. NO PREVIOUS WARNING OR SYMPTOMS. CAR WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER INTO A SAFE SPOT. AFTER ENGAGING PARK, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE NORMALLY. NO CHECK LIGHT REMAIN LIT. AFTER A FULL MORNING CHECKING THE CAR, NO FAULT OR CODE ERROR DETECTED. I AM AFRAID OF A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND, NO OVERPASSES, ETC. MOONROOF EXPLODED OVER MY HEAD. GLASS WAS FACING UPWARDS LIKE A VOLCANO. SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT GOING OFF OVER MY HEAD. FORD REFUSED TO COVER THIS DEFECT. CAR IS ONLY 7 MONTHS OLD. *TR
STARTED IGNITION AND AUTOMATICALLY DISPLAYED MESSAGE - ENGINE FAULT SERVICE ENGINE NOW. PULLED OUT OF HOME DRIVEWAY AND WHEN ACCELERATED ON THE GAS, VEHICLE JERKED SEVERELY. PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED, THE SAME MESSAGE AND JERKING OCCURS. LATER THAT DAY I STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE MESSAGE WENT AWAY AND HAD NO JERKING UPON ACCELERATING. THIS "ENGINE AT FAULT" IS A SERIOUS CONCERN IF THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING. TOOK THE VEHICLE A COUPLE WEEKS AGO ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE TO A DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM THE SITUATION, HOWEVER THE MESSAGE DID NOT APPEAR ON DISPLAY. THEIR CONCLUSION WAS IF THE ENGINE FAULT MESSAGE WAS NOT ON DISPLAY, THEN THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE FINE. *TR

TURNED VEHICLE BACK ON ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER. NO ERROR. DROVE CAR FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES. NO PROBLEMS. TURNED CAR OFF. RESTARTED CAR 70 MINUTES LATER TO SEE ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW ERROR APPEARED AGAIN. DROVE CAR FOR 10-15 MINUTES WITH HESITATION, LURCHING AND NEARLY STALLING. TURNED CAR OFF. TOOK TO DEALER NEXT DAY. THEY COULD NOT SEE THE ERROR IN THE COMPUTER. *TR
VEHICLE DISPLAYED MESSAGE SERVICE ENGINE FAULT SERVICE ENGINE NOW ON START UP. IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED. MESSAGE WENT AWAY. THE CAM PHAZOR USED IN THE 2013 FORD ESCAPE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING SYSTEM FAILED AFTER ONLY ONE WEEK AND 750 MILES. WE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS HARD TO START, IDLED ROUGH, AND HESITATED. THIS IS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR IN EAST TENNESSEE ON JULY 4, 2013, AND IT WAS IN THE SHOP A WEEK LATER FOR A MAJOR ENGINE REPAIR. VEHICLE WITH APPROXIMATELY 4000 MILES STALLS WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 15 DAYS, TWICE WHILE DRIVING ON MAJOR ROADS WITH AVERAGE SPEED BEING ABOUT 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE LITERALLY JUST TURNS OFF. IT DOESN'T SHAKE, JERK, MAKE ANY NOISE, NOTHING, JUST TURNS OFF. I GET A MESSAGE THAT SAYS "ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW." IT IS A VERY SCARY SITUATION TO EXPERIENCE. SINCE THE CAR JUST DIES AT FULL SPEED THE MOMENTUM OF THE CAR KEEPS THE CAR MOVING BUT OBVIOUSLY AT A MUCH SLOWER PACE. THIS LAST SUNDAY, JULY 14, 2013 THE CAR STALLED ON A VERY BUSY, MAJOR ROAD, SO I WAS IN A VERY CLOSE CALL FOR AN ACCIDENT. ON JULY 11, 2013, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED THE MAP SENSOR AND SAID THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. DRIVING APPROX. 15/20 MPH ON A SIDE STREET. WENT TO BACKUP AND TURN AROUND AND THE ENGINE JUST SHUT DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART WITH NO ISSUES. I'M GLAD I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WHILE DRIVING, IN HUMID WEATHER CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND BEGAN LURCHING, SHUDDERING AND JERKING. CENTER, DRIVER SIDE SCREEN (BEHIND STEERING WHEEL) DISPLAYED "ENGINE FAULT - SERVICE NOW". WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT A MILE BACK HOME IN "LIMP MODE". I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED AND THEN RESTARTED AND ALL SEEMED OK. NEXT DAY I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER'S SERVICE AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. THEY COULD NOT PULL ANY CODES AND SAID IT WAS PROBABLY JUST A "FLUKE". ... IT'S HAPPENED AGAIN TWICE MORE THIS WEEK SINCE THEN. IT'S NOT A "FLUKE". MY CAR HAS OVERHEATED TWICE AFTER THE RECALL FIX. MY COOLANT WAS VIOLENTLY BOILING OVER. MY TRANSMISSION IS ALSO GROSSLY SHIFTING INCORRECTLY. I ALMOST GOT HIT BY ANOTHER CAR WHEN I WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY SINCE IT WASN'T GOING TO THE NEXT GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION REDLINED AND THEN SHIFTED. I TAKE THE CAR IN TO THE FORD DEALER & HE TELLS ME THERE IS NOT A CODE SHOWING UP SO THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. I HAVE HAD MY ESCAPE TO THE FORD HOUSE 4 TIMES FOR THE EXACT SAME THING & EVERYTIME, NO CODE SHOWS UP. WHAT THE HECK? AFTER OWNING THIS VEHICLE FOR ONE MONTH, THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER THE NEW TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED, I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR NOT WANTING TO ACCELERATE. I WOULD BE MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY OR PULLING INTO TRAFFIC AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE RPM'S WOULD GO WAY UP, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I AM FEARFUL ANYTIME I DRIVE THIS CAR THAT IT MAY NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I NEED IT TO AND I'LL END UP IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT. I HAVE HAD MY ESCAPE INTO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. THE LAST TIME I HAD IT IN, FORD PUT IN A FLIGHT SIMULATOR. AFTER FORD EVALUATED THE SIMULATOR FINDINGS, FORD ENGINEERS SAID THIS WAS "NORMAL"; THEY WILL NO LONGER EVALUATE THE ISSUE. INSIDE REAR HATCH HANDLE CAME OFF WHEN PULLING THE HATCH DOWN TO CLOSE. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND A SCREW INSIDE THE HATCH PANEL HAD CAME OUT. REPLACED WITH NEW SCREW THEN SNAPPED HANDLE BACK IN PLACE. THIS HANDLE IS WEAK AND POORLY DESIGNED. ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IS JUST SNAPS ON. THE STRESS THE HANDLE AND PANEL MUST TAKE AS TO PULL THE WEIGHT OF THE HEAVY HATCH DOWN BEFORE YOU CAN PLACE YOUR HAND ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE HATCH TO CLOSE NEEDS TO BE REDESIGNED IN THE NEWER MODELS. I AM NOW NOT SO RELAXED WHEN CLOSING THE HATCH ON MY OWN CAR. *TR
I PULLED INTO THE SERVICE STATION FOR FUEL. THE ATTENDANT PLACED THE GAS PUMP NOZZLE INTO MY VEHICLES NEW STYLE CAPLESS GAS TANK AND BEGAN TO FILL THE TANK FULL OF FUEL. ONCE THE TANK REACHED THE LIMIT THE NOZZLE SHUT OFF, WHEN THE ATTENDANT WENT TO REMOVE THE NOZZLE IT WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE CAR. FOR OVER 2 HOURS MY CAR WAS ATTACHED TO THE NOZZLE, UNTIL THE GAS STATION OWNER CAME AND HAD TO USE A SCREWDRIVER TO PRY IT OUT. GOOD THING BY LAW IN NJ A ATTENDANT MUST BE THEIR WHEN THE STATION IS OPEN OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN STUCK, THEIR WAS NO PHONE RECEPTION. *TR

WAS DRIVING DOING 40MPH WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE I RECEIVED A MESSAGE INSTRUCTING ME TO IMMEDIATELY PULL VEHICLE OVER AND SHUT DOWN DUE TO ENGINE OVERHEATING. NEVER RECEIVED A "LOW COOLANT" LIGHT, JUST A SUDDEN WARNING TO PULL OVER. HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE INCIDENT. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS AS IT WAS A TWO LANE, ONE WAY, STREET WITH NO SHOULDERS. OPENED THE HOOD AND I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO ENGINE COOLANT. ALSO NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS IN FACT VERY HOT. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS HAS CAUSED ENGINE DAMAGE ON MY BRAND NEW VEHICLE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND THE ENGINE FAULT MESSAGE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND JERKED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE ENGINE SENSOR. THE DEALER CLEANED THE ENGINE SENSOR HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,700.
PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW ON MAY 7, DROVE 10 MILES AND PARKED THE VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE. ON MAY 11, I NOTED A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL UNDER THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED: OIL LEAK DIAGNOSIS TIMING PEG PLUG MISSING FROM RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE BLOCK. THE RIGHT HALF AXLE SHAFT AND BEARING BRACKET WERE REMOVED, THE PLUG HOLE WAS CLEANED AND THREADS TAPPED USING M10 X 1.5 TAP. INSTALLED NEW TIMING PLUG TIGHTENED TO SPEC. NEW OIL AND FILTER INSTALLED. THE ORIGIN OF THE LEAK COULD NOT BE SEEN BY OWNER VISUAL INSPECTION. EITHER THE PLUG WAS NOT INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY OR IT WAS NOT TIGHTENED AND FELL OUT. EITHER WAY, HAD IT NOT BEEN NOTICED THE ENGINE OIL WOULD HAVE BEEN TOTALLY LOST INCREASING THE LIKELIHOOD OF ENGINE DAMAGE. FURTHER OIL COVERED THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE AND COULD HAVE GOTTEN ON TO BRAKES COMPROMISING SAFETY. NOT SURE IF THERE WAS POTENTIAL FOR ENGINE FIRE. *TR
