I PURCHASED MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE IN APRIL 2017. I ALSO PURCHASED THE FORD PROTECT 75000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY. FROM TIME TO TIME I WOULD NOTICE A HARD SHIFT OR SLIP. I WAS GETTING CLOSE TO MY WARRANTIES END AND BRANG THE VECHILE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH IT I HAD PURCHASED IT FROM. THEY SAID THEY UPDATED THE PCU (WHICH AFTER RESEARCHING IS FORDS RECOMMENDED FIX). COUPLE WEEKS PAST AND ITS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. WARRANTIES OVER NOT MY PROBLEM IS WHAT IM TOLD. BOTH FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD. I HAVE A RECALL FROM FORD DO TO SHIFTER CABLE BUSHINGS BEING FAULTLY. WERE YOUR CAR COULD ROLL AWAY DUE TO BEING IN THE WRONG GEAR. BUT THE KICKER IS THEY HAVE NOT YET PROVIDED A PART AND YOU CAN GET IT FIXED AND BE REIMBURSED OR ALWAYS USE YOUR PARKING BRAKE. WHICH IM SURE IS GREAT FOR HOT ROTORS AND BREAKPADS. AND THIS IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE. MY VECHILE NOW HAS QUITE A FEW ISSUES. WHICH INCLUDE STALLING WHEN BACKING UP SHIFTER STUCK IN PARK (FINALLY WHEN IT DOES RELEASE SLAMS INTO REVERSE) RANDOMLY DRAINING BATTERY BECAUSE CAR IS IN POWER SAVING MODE NOT STARTING BECAUSE IF HILL ASSIST MODE? BACKUP CAM INTERMITTENTLY NOT WORKING TOUCHSCREEN DISPLAYNOT WORKING OR BLACK. ALL THESE PROBLEMS SEEM TO BE COMMON AMONG 2014 ESCAPE OWNERS WHEN READING ONLINE FORUMS FOR BOTH OWNERS AND MECHANICS. YET FORD STATES THAT EVEN WITH THE RECALLED ISSUE. NO CONSUMER COMPLAINTS OR INJURIES HAVE BEEN FILED. I WILL BE DOCUMENT EVERY OCCURRENCE FROM THIS DAY FORWARD.
THIS IS NOW THE 4TH TIME MY CAR HAS STALLED ON THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING. THEY'VE ALL REVOLVED AROUND SOME TYPE OF ELECTRICAL FAILURE THAT EITHER CAUSED THE VEHICLE NOT TO START, OVERHEAT OR LOSE POWER ALL TOGETHER AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THREE TIMES THIS HAPPENED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND ONCE ON SURFACE STREETS. IN THIS MOST RECENT ONE. SOME OF THE REPAIRS WERE COVERED UNDER A RECALL BUT THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MODEL THAT IS JUST WRONG. I HAD A FORD EXPLORER FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND 200,000 MILES AND IT NEVER BROKE DOWN ON ME THE WAY THIS ONE HAS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WITH THIS CAR.
THE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. I WAS JUST GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE HIGH TEMP GAGE CAME ON SO I PULLED OVER IN THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. I THOUGHT THAT THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING BUT THE TEMPERATURE GAGE WAS IN THE NORMAL RANGE. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE CAR, I SAW WHAT I THOUGHT WAS STEAM, COMING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND THE CAR ON FIRE. THE CAR DID NOT GIVE ANY INDICATION THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT.
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ONE DAY THEN WENT OFF THE NEXT DAY. A WEEK LATER WENT TO GET ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND WAS NOTIFIED OF OIL IN COOLANT AND POSSIBLE HEAD GASKET CRACKED AS WELL. THEY RECOMMENDED TAKE IT TO MECHANIC NEXT DOOR. APPARENTLY THE ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD OVERHEATED AND CRACKED. OIL LEAKED INTO OTHER SYSTEMS IN ENGINE CONTAMINATED VALVES, INTAKES, SPARK PLUGS ETC. COULD HAVE COMBUSTED CAUSING FIRE AT ANY MOMENT. MECHANIC TOLD US TO HAVE IT TOWED TO FORD NOT SAFE TO DRIVE 3 MILES. GOT CAR FIXED AT FORD DEALERSHIP FOR $3551.09. THE FOLLOWING WEEK WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR OUR OTHER 2014 FORD ESCAPE BUILT IN SAME LOUISVILLE FACTORY A FEW WEEKS EARLIER THAN THE JUST REPAIRED ESCAPE. GOT THE RECALL ADDRESSED ON THAT VEHICLE BUT FORD SAYS THE VIN FOR THE ONE I JUST PAID FOR HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED FOR THE RECALL! REALLY???
WHEN I FIRST START UP MY FORD ESCAPE IN THE MORNING AND PUT IT IN THE DRIVE GEAR , A SEVERE JERKING MOTION TAKES PLACE. IT ONLY DOES IT AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SETTING FOR A WHILE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING. THE CONTACT LET THE VEHICLE COOL OFF AND ADDED MORE COOLANT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO COCONUT POINT FORD (22400 S TAMIAMI TRAIL, ESTERO, FL 33928, (888) 859-1976) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT COOLANT LEAKED OUT FROM A DEFECTIVE UNKNOWN PART THAT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE AND WOULD OPEN A CASE TO SEE IF THEY COULD PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TOWARDS THE REPAIR COSTS SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
HIGH ENGINE TEMP, PULL OVER SAFELY MESSAGE FLASHES ON DISPLAY AND ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. CAR STARTED RUNNING ROUGH. FORTUNATELY WAS JUST PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND DIDN'T GET OVER 5 MPH. I BACKED UP INTO GARAGE, TURNED OFF CAR. STARTED IT AGAIN AND WHEN I GOT TO SAME SPOT (APPROXIMATELY 1/8 MILE) THE SAME WARNINGS POPPED UP. TOWED TO DEALER UPON THEIR ADVISE. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME, AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR 6 DAYS, THAT IT'S EITHER THE HEAD GASKET OR BLOCK CRACKED DUE TO COOLANT BEING LOW. THEY TESTED COOLANT AND CONFIRMED IT IS LEAKING INTERNALLY. NOTE - I DID HAVE THE RECALL RELATED TO THE ISSUE PERFORMED IN FEBRUARY 2018. NOW, WITH ONLY 1 MONTH LEFT ON ORIGINAL WARRANTY BUT AT 61,500 MILES (SO OVER BY A SMIDGE), FORD WILL NOT REPAIR CAR. IF THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED BUT THE CAR EXHIBITED THE PROBLEM ANYWAYS, NO MATTER HOW FAR IT WAS DRIVEN SINCE THEN, THAT TELLS ME THAT THE RECALL SOLUTION DID NOT WORK.
I HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET WHICH RESULTED FROM A LEAK FROM THE RADIATOR INTO THE MANIFOLD. THERE WAS NO LOW FLUID LIGHT THAT WARNED OF THE LEAK WHICH WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS DEFECTIVE FLAW.THIS PROBLEM EXACTLY FITS THE RECALL 17V209000 (SEE ATTACHED) FOR EXACTLY THE MAKE, MODEL, YEAR, ENGINE, ETC. OF MY VEHICLE, BUT FOR SOME REASON MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO 2 MECHANICS AND THEY BELIEVE 100% THAT IT SHOULD INCLUDE MY VEHICLE AND ARE NOT SURE WHY ITS INCLUDED. PLEASE REVIEW AND PLEASE TRY TO ADD MY VEHICLE TO THE RECALL LIST
CAR OCCASIONALLY DIED AT STOP LIGHTS, SIGNS AND ONCE ON THE EXIT RAMP WHILE EXITING A HIGHWAY. OCCASIONAL TO OFTEN ROUGH RUNNING ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEED AND ODD SHIFTS FROM THE TRANSMISSION. SURGING IN THE ENGINE WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND WHEN SLOWING TO STOP. ENGINE FAULT MESSAGE WOULD COME UP IN DISPLAY AND I TOOK A PICTURE, SHOWED IT TO SERVICE MANAGER WITH NO SUCCESS. COMPUTER WOULD NOT STORE CODES WHEN THESE PROBLEMS OCCURRED SO ON 4 SEPARATE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE AND TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT AND BRING IT IN IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. VEHICLE FINALLY DIED AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND A SIGNAL RETURN FOR MAP WIRING PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. AFTER SOME READING I BELIEVE THERE HAVE BEEN SERVICE ADVISORIES AND POSSIBLY A RECALL FOR CERTAIN VIN'S. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE PROBLEMS IT WAS HAVING BUT IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE.
3 YR OLD CAR TRANSMISSION WENT OUT COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I HAD TO DODGE SPEEDIG CARS TO ROLL OFF THE FREEWAY SINCE I HAD NO USE OF THE GAS PETAL OR SPEED. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. ERROR CODES P0732-GEAR 2 INCORRECT GEAR RATIO CAME BACK TO NEEDING A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION. HAD THEM FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION FOR $300 TO TRY AND SAVE IT TO NO AVAIL. THE SHIFTER CABLE IS ALREADY ON RECALL NOTICE 18S20/NHTSA RECALL 18V471 AND MY FORD DEALER CANT GET THE PART FOR MONTHS NOW BECAUSE ITS ON BACK ORDER. I BELIEVE THIS LED TO THE TOTAL DEMISE OF THE TRANSMISSION. A USED PART FOR $3000 IS NOT AN OPTION BECAUSE THE DEALERS CANT FIND ONE ANYWHERE. IM ASSUMING ITS DUE TO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. MY ONLY OPTIONS ARE SPENDING $5400 ON A NEW TRANSMISSION OR GETTIG RID OF THE CAR THAT I STILL OWE MONEY ON TO SOMEONE WHO MAY SCRAP IT. NO SAFETY RECALL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE STILL AFTER MONTHS AND NO USED PARTS ARE ACAILABLE BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY MORE LIKE ME WITH THIS STYLE VEHICLE. ALSO IN JANUARY THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE 17S09/NHTSA RECALL 17V-209 THAT HAD TO DO WITH THE CYLINDER HEAD CRACKED THAT MAY CAUSE OIL TO LEAK AND MAY RESULT IN A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT .
MY CAR DOESN'T SHIFT RIGHT WHEN DRIVING. SOMETIMES IT WON'T SHIFT INTO HIGHER GEARS AND SOMETIMES THE CAR LAGS IN POWER THEN IT WILL SUDDENLY GET A BURST OF POWER AND THE CAR SPEEDS UP QUICKLY. THIS SHIFTING ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR SEVERAL WEEKS NOW.
WHILE ON HIGHWAY. RPM SCDROPPED TO 0. ALL LIGHTS ON DASH LIT UP. SMELL BURNING. CAR STOPPED WORKING ROLLED TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP. TOWED TO KUHLMANNS'S AUTOMOTIVE ON MERIDENRD WOLCOTT CT 06716
KEEP LOOSING COOLANT AND RESULTED TO DAMAGING CYLINDER HEAD AND FORD DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM DESPITE THE RECALL. THEY SAY RECALL THEY MADE IS TO PREVENT THE PREVENTIVE.
FORD FIXED A RECALL ON MY CAR REGARDING THE COOLANT SENSOR AND MY CAR HASN'T BEEN RIGHT EVER SINCE. SAME DAY THAT I BROUGHT IT HOME THE COOLANT SENSOR SAID COOLANT LEVEL LOW EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD JUST FILLED IT UP AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF COOLANT IN THE CAR. YESTERDAY ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK MY CAR OVER HEATED AND, LIGHTS ON THE DASH SAID FOR ME TO PULL OVER SAFELY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY SLOWED DOWN TO BARELY 5MILES/HOUR ON IT OWN, IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. NOW THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE AS IT OVERHEATS WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF STARTING THE CAR UP. DEALERSHIPS NEAR ME WILL NOT SERVICE MY CAR FOR ANOTHER 2 WEEKS AND THEY DON'T HAVE A LOANER CAR THAT I CAN USE IN THE MEANTIME, AND ON TOP OF THAT IT'S GOING TO HAVE TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT'S NON-DRIVABLE. ACCORDING TO THE DIAGNOSTICS RAN ON IT THE CODE THAT CAME UP WAS - P1299.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS INOPERABLE AND NO INFORMATION WOULD DISPLAY. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAY INITIALLY BEGAN TO FLICKER, BUT THEN WENT COMPLETELY OUT. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER (AUTONATION FORD MIAMI, 16800 NW. 57TH AVE, MIAMI, FL) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V406000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO WHAT WAS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
THE FAN BLOWER MOTOR WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. THAT IS, IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK WHEN ACTIVATED. MOREOVER, IT HAS NOW COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. THIS CAUSES EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE WHEN WINDOWS ARE FOGGED UP INSIDE VEHICLE, PREVENTING DRIVER FROM SEEING. HAPPENS WHEN VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AND WHEN STATIONARY.

THE DEALER (UPPER MARLBORO FORD, 5701 CRAIN HWY, UPPER MARLBORO, MD 20772, (301) 627-5600) PERFORMED A GENERAL MAINTENANCE SPECIAL VEHICLE CHECK-UP FOR SEVERAL SERVICES, BUT DID NOT MENTION THE PANEL FAILURE. WHEN THE CONTACT QUESTIONED THE DEALER, THEY STATED THERE WAS NO RECALL AND DID NOT PROVIDE A REPAIR ESTIMATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
AS I REVERSED OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL IT SUDDENLY BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL. A MESSAGE ON THE DASH BASICALLY SAID "STEERING ASSISTANCE FAILURE - SERVICE REQUIRED". I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF AND THAN TURNED IT BACK ON. THERE WAS NO MESSAGE. 70,376 MILES
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. THE CAR LOSES COOLANT FLUID, THEN OVERHEATS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS INSTALLED A SENSOR THAT REPORTS THE FLUID LEVEL CONDITION, BUT HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE CAUSE OF THE FLUID LOSS. AS A RESULT, THE HEAD REQUIRES REPLACING, OR THE VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. THE CAR ALSO HAS A CHANCE FOR AN UNDER-HOOD FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER, FORD, IS NEGLIGENT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT A RECALL NOTICED WAS RECEIVED UNDER CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COLONIAL FORD DEALER (120 FEDERAL RD # 126, DANBURY, CT 06811, (203) 748-3503) WHERE THE RECALL WAS COMPLETED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO COLONIAL FORD DEALER, AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A POOR PIN FIT CORRECTION #48802 P2560 NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED BUT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DRIVER NOTICED SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD THEN FLAMES APPEARED. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT AND DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 52,000.
ON 10/28/2018 AROUND 10:30AM I WAS DRIVING TO CHURCH WITH MY FAMILY. WHILE STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION OF NORTH ROUTE 88 AND 837 IN MONONGAHELA, PA, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HEATING VENTS. THEN AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR SHUT DOWN. SO, I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE CAR TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER I EVACUATED MY FAMILY FROM THE CAR, I OPENED THE HOOD AND THE SMOKE PROGRESSED TO A FIRE, WHICH I CALLED 911 AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED IT. THEN A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND TOWED MY VEHICLE TO LENZI SERVICE STATION IN MONONGAHELA, PA. AFTER REPORTING THIS TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY, THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR DETERMINED THAT IT WAS AN EXHAUST FIRE OCCURRED DUE TO AN UNSEEN OIL LEAK. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO FORD ON 10/29/2018, BUT HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THEM. THE INSURANCE COMPANY, WHICH IS USAA, HAS AGREED TO BUY OUT THE REST OF MY PAYMENT AND TOLD ME THAT I CAN GO AND BUY A NEW CAR.
WHILE DRIVING AT TIMES WE CAN SMELL FUMES FROM THE ENGINE. IT IS VERY STRONG. IT WILL START AND THEN STOP AFTER A WHILE. THE SMELL IS STRONG WITH CARBON. IT MAKES US SICK AND NAUSEOUS. WE HAVE HAD TO ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN AND PULL OVER AT TIMES. SO FAR THIS HAS HAPPENED ONLY WHILE DRIVING. WE CAN BE ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET OR DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUSE CONTROL ON AND IT WILL HAPPEN. WE HAVE TREATED THIS CAR WELL AND ONLY HAD AN AUTHORIZED DEALER PERFORM MAINTENANCE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CHANGING THE WIPERS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE HAS ISSUES WITH THIS CAR (WE BOUGHT THIS NEW). WE HAVE HAD THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE A DEFECTIVE BREAK DRUM (LESS THAN 2K MILES), A DEFECTIVE TRACK THAT MOVES THE ELECTRIC SEAT AND A FAULTY EXTERIOR DOOR LATCH. COULD NOT CHANGE THE BACK WIPER BLADE HAD TO TAKE IT IN (WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE CENTER THEY HAD ISSUES IN THE BEGINNING FIGURING IT OUT ALSO). NOW THE SMELL ISSUE HAD MADE THIS A BAD EXPERIENCE. IF IT JUST WAS A BAD SMELL THAT WOULD BE ONE ISSUE, HOWEVER THIS IS TOXIC AND MAKES BOTH OF US NAUSEOUS. THIS SHOULD REALLY NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH SOON BEFORE SOMEONE GETS LIGHT HEADED FROM THE SMELL AND HAS AN ACCIDENT.
I GOT A CARD IN THE MAIL FOR ME TOO CHECK TOO SEE IF MY VEHICLE IS IN THE RECALL ON TAKATA AIRBAGS.

THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED, AS THE CONTACT WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH AND NEITHER WAS THE NEIGHBOR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND REMAINED IN POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE THEREAFTER. IN ADDITION, AN AUTOBODY REPAIR SHOP WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ROLLAWAY. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION, PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A HISTORY OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND/OR REPAIRS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000. *TR
1.6L ECOBOOST ENGINE IS BURNING COOLANT THROUGH THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER (HEADS). THIS CAUSES CAR TO LOSE COOLANT, MISFIRE, AND OVERHEAT. RECALL 17S09 WOULD SEEM TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. MY VEHICLE, THAT MEETS ALL OF THE PARAMETERS OF THE RECALL TO INCLUDE VEHICLE MODEL, MAKE, YEAR, ENGINE SIZE, FACTORY OF ASSEMBLY, DATE OF ASSEMBLY, ETC., IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. FORD IS UNWILLING TO RECTIFY.
FAILURE AT 80,000 MILES, HOWEVER THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ENGINE AT 76,000 DUE TO PROBLEMS FROM THE COOLANT RECALL; THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR WHILE DRIVING. COMPUTER SCREEN WOULD SHOW "SYSTEM SHUTTING DOWN"; VEHICLE WOULD GO INTO "LIMP" MODE, REDUCE SPEED AND CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WITHOUT NOTICE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED IN AFTER ISSUE OCCURING 4X IN A 2 MILE DRIVE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED IN. ADVISED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER 30 DAYS THEY RETURNED THE CAR WITH 75 MILES TEST DRIVEN AND SHOWED THAT THE TECH RESET THE COMPUTER MODULE PRIOR TO DUPLICATING THE ISSUE. THE SERVICE MANAGER HAD ME "RESET" THE VEHICLE BY DRIVING IT. WHILE DRIVING 55MPH THE ISSUE REOCCURRED AT 100 MILES AFTER THE SYSTEM RESET. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER A WEEK THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE "SOME" BUT NOT ALL OF THE ISSUES. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP THEY DECIDED TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE BACK BY PAYING OFF THE EXISTING LOAN IN EXCHANGE FOR PURCHASING A 2018 FORD ESCAPE.
WHILE DRIVING UPHILL ON I-80 ON A COOL DAY IN OCTOBER, SPEED LIMIT 65MPH, OUT OF NO WHERE, MY 2014 ESCAPE ILLUMINATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY AN "ENGINE TEMP HIGH, PLEASE STOP SAFELY" ON THE SCREEN. I HAD NEVER SEEN EITHER OF THESE WARNINGS BEFORE SO I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AS IT BEGAN SMOKING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AT THIS TIME THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED RED - WITHIN APPROX. 60 SECONDS, THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD POPPING NOISE AND EXPLODED INTO FLAMES. I QUICKLY EVACUATED THE VEHICLE AND RAN DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WITHIN MINUTES THE ENTIRE CAR WAS IN FLAMES AND WAS LATER RULED A TOTAL LOSS. THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED BY THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IT WAS PURCHASED FROM 6 DAYS PRIOR AND WAS GIVEN A "CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH" BY THE MECHANICS.
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH, AT APPROXIMATELY 52K MILES, MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE SUDDENLY OVERHEATED AND PRESENTED A WARNING TO PULL OVER AND STOP THE CAR. MY COOLANT LEVEL HAD DROPPED BELOW THE MINIMUM AND MY CAR OVERHEATED. I ADDED WATER FOR THE SYSTEM AND HAD MY CAR TAKEN TO A LOCAL SHOP WHO REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AS WELL AS COOLANT OVERFLOW SYSTEM. ADDITIONALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER OVERHEATING. ONCE "FIXED" AND LESS THAN 5000 MILES LATER (APPROXIMATELY 56K), MY CAR OVERHEATED AGAIN. THE COOLANT LEVELS WERE LOW, WITH NO WARNING OF LOW COOLANT SYSTEM EVER DISPLAYED UNTIL I RECEIVED THE WARNING (AGAIN GOING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH) TO PULL OVER AND SHUT DOWN OVERHEATED ENGINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND I BROUGHT THE CAR TO SHOP AGAIN. DIAGNOSTIC OF CODE READ POTENTIALLY FAULTY THERMOSTAT (WHICH I HAD REPLACED LESS THAN 5000 MILES BEFORE) OR LOW COOLANT (AGAIN JUST FILLED). I DECIDED NOT TO ACTION (EXCEPT STANDARD OIL CHANGE DUE) AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF ON ITS OWN. NOW AT 56,800 MY CAR HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RE-ILLUMINATED AND NOW IS BLINKING THAT I HAVE LOW OIL PRESSURE (LESS THAN 2000 MILES SINCE OIL CHANGE). TAKING TO SERVICE THIS AFTERNOON FOR DIAGNOSTIC. VERY SIMILAR TO ISSUES DOCUMENTED IN OTHER 2014 ESCAPES UNDER RECALL 17S09- HOWEVER, MY PARTICULAR VIN IS NOT CONSIDERED INCLUDED, DESPITE BUILD AT LOUIVILLE, KY IN APRIL 2014. THEREFORE, NO RECALL SERVICE OF COOLANT SENSOR CAN BE PROVIDED.
HAD BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARING HUBS REPLACED 10/18/18 AT COST OF $520.ON 10/20/18 A LOUD GRINDING SOUND STARTED HAPPENING. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP ON 10/25/18 WHO SAID ONE OF THE BEARINGS WAS DEFECTIVE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SENT BAD BEARINGS TO FORD DEALERSHIP BOB MAXEY FORD. BEARING COULD'VE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT THAT RESULTED IN MY DEATH OR THE DEATH OF ANOTHER MOTORIST.

I PURCHASED A 2014 FORD ESCAPE FROM BEST FORD IN NASHUA, NH BACK IN JULY OF 2014. I STARTED TO HEAR ABOUT RECALLS ON THE ESCAPE BECAUSE OF ISSUES WITH COOLANT LEVELS LEADING TO CRACKED BLOCKS & POTENTIAL FIRES. I STARTED KEEPING AN EYE ON MY COOLANT LEVELS. I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT IT WAS RUNNING LOW & I FOUND MYSELF TOPPING OFF THE COOLANT ON A REGULAR BASIS. I CALLED FORD & EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH COOLANT LEVELS AS STATED IN MANY RECALLS, I ASKED IF MY CAR WOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL. THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WOULDN'T FALL UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE THE RECALL PERTAINED ONLY TO CERTAIN ENGINES THAT CAME FROM A CERTAIN PLANT. THAT IS INCORRECT. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO MY CAR STARTED ACTING UP. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC BUT HE SAID I SHOULD GO DIRECTLY TO FORD WITH MY CAR. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO IPSWICH FORD. ONCE THEY STARTED TO DIG INTO THE ISSUES WITH MY CAR, THEY REALIZED THAT THE MOTOR WAS JUNK BUT ALSO THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL OR WARRANTY. THEY STOPPED WORKING ON THE CAR BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE COST ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY ALREADY KNEW, THAT THE ENGINE WAS JUNK. BY THEM STOPPING THE WORK, THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT THE MOTOR BACK TOGETHER SO I COULD DRIVE IT TEMPORARILY. IF THEY CONTINUED, I WOULD HAVE BEEN TAKING THE CAR OUT OF THE SERVICE CENTER ON A FLAT BED. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT IPSWICH FORD ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE ISSUE WITH THESE MOTORS IS NOT ONLY FROM A CERTAIN PLANT BUT THAT ALL ECOBOOST MOTORS HAVE ISSUES. HE SAID THAT FORD WAS GIVING THEM AN ALLOWANCE YEARLY TO HELP PEOPLE WITH ENGINE ISSUES. HE INFORMED THAT FORD HAS NOW CUT-OFF ANY ALLOWANCES & THAT IF THE CAR ISN'T ON A RECALL OR HAS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, THE CUSTOMER IS LEFT OUT IN THE COLD. I NEED TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE FOR ME IN MY SITUATION. CAN I BE ADDED TO THE RECALL, DO I HAVE ANY OTHER AVENUES TO GET COMPENSATION FROM FORD
SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE CAR (ON A COOL FALL DAY) A WARNING CAME ON THE DASH SAYING "STOP IMMEDIATELY, ENGINE OVERHEATING". THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO LIMIT MY ABILITY TO DRIVE THEREFORE I HAD O SLOWLY STOP AT CURBSIDE OF HIGHWAY. I CHECKED THE COOLANT WHICH WAS BASICALLY GONE. WHICH DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE CAR TWO MONTHS PRIOR. ADDITIONALLY, THE ENGINE WASN'T SMOKING OR VISIBLY SHOWING SIGNS OF OVERHEATING. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY ANY ISSUES. THERE WERE NO POOLS OF LIQUID UNDERNEATH THE CAR THAT WOULD INDICATE A LEAK. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE GOT WORSE AND I HAVE HAD TO FILL THE COOLANT TANK EVERY OTHER WEEK. TOOK THE ESCAPE INTO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT WOULD BE A HOSE LEAK AND THE COOLANT NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED FOR 800 DOLLARS. I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY, SO TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SHOP. THAT SHOP RAN TESTS BUT COULDN'T FIND A LEAK IN THE HOSING SYSTEM NOR COULD THEY SEE SIGNS OF COOLANT ON OTHER PARTS OF THE ENGINE. MY CAR CONTINUED TO SUCK DOWN COOLANT FOR NO APPARENT REASON UNTIL FINALLY THE TIMING BELT BROKE.
ENGINE COOLANT LOW LIGHT CAME ON. CHECKED RESERVE AND IT WAS LOW. VEHICLE HAD JUST BEEN SERVICED 2,000 MILES EARLIER. I ADDED COOLANT THE NEXT DAY. I DISCOVERED OIL ON THE FLOOR. TOOK CAR TO FORD AND THEY DID PRESSURE AND DYE TESTS. THEY WOULD COOLANT IN THE OIL. THEY SAID THIS WAS NOT PART OF THE COOLANT/CRACKED BLOCK, POTENTIAL FIRE RECALL. OUT CAR IS SERVICED EVERY 5,000 MILES. DUE TO THE COOLANT CONTAMINATION OF THE ALUMINUM ENGINE, FORD STATED THE THE ENGINE WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT AT $6,200+. THE DEALER HAD ME SPEAK TO FORD CUSTOMER CARE WHICH I DID. I GOOGLED ONLINE AND THERE APPEARS TO BE A NUMBER OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000 MILES. A PROPERLY SERVICED ENGINE SHOULDN'T FAIL THAT SOON. THE SCOPE OF THE FORD RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO COVER ENGINE COOLANT LOSS AND ENGINE CONTAMINATION. FURTHER DRIVING COULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE ENGINE SEIZING UP WHILE DRIVING.

TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY RAN TEST AND DISCOVERED COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO THE ENGINE AND OIL AND THAT THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. QUOTED A PRICE OF $6,400+/- WHEN THEY PULLED THE ENGINE THEY REMOVED THE TURBO FOR RE-USE. UPON REMOVAL OF THE TURBO, BEARINGS AND SHROUDS OF METAL FEEL OUT. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND THAT THE BEARINGS AND METAL HAD EXPLODED INTO THE ALUMINUM ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING A CRACK AND ALLOWING COOLANT INTO THE ENGINE AND OIL. I'M STILL WAITING ON THE REPAIR TO BE COMPLETED, AND KNOW THE COST APPEARS TO BE AROUND $7,500+/-. STILL HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM FORD. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN BAD OF THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING.

I WAS PARKED IN A LARGE PARKING LOT OF A GROCERY STORE. WHEN LEAVING MY VEHICLE WAS BEING PUT INTO DRIVE, TRANSMISSION WENT INTO REVERSE AND SHIFTER WAS IN PARK. THE KEY WAS ABLE TO BE REMOVED BUT UNABLE TO KEEP CAR SECURE W/O LEAVING PARKING BRAKE ON. THERE WAS NO WAY TO CRANK THE CAR SINCE IT WAS NOT IN PARK. CAR WAS COMPLETELY NON WORKING. MY VEHICLE HAD TO BE LEFT IN THE PARKING LOT AND TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. IN SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT, WITH A NON-FUNCTIONING CAR WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK, I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THE EXACT DESCRIPTION OF WHAT WAS GOING ON UNDER RECALL 18S20. INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP OF THIS WHEN THE CAR WAS DELIVERED TO THEM. THAT WAS THE ONLY PART THAT WAS FIXED, SINCE IT WAS THE ONLY FAULTY PART. FORD REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE, APPARENTLY, MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED AT A DIFFERENT PLANT. SAME MAKE, MODEL, ETC. SAME PART, OTHERS ARE PAID FOR, JUST NOT MINE. FORD WAS NOT WILLING TO COMPENSATE BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT IN THE SYSTEM FOR THIS RECALL AT THE TIME OF MY REPAIRS. THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND LOT OF WASTED TIME, SERVICES AND MONEY. IF I HAD KNOWN AND BEEN INFORMED OF THIS I COULD HAVE HAD IT FIXED PRIOR TO A BREAKDOWN AND WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY CHILDREN WITH ME, IN A HOT CAR, IN A BUSY PARKING LOT VERY UPSET. TRUCK STALLS WHILE DRIVING, AND WON'T START BACK UP. IVE HAD IT TOWED TWICE ALREADY FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ALSO HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT BESIDES SAYING IT SEEMED TO BE A GLTCH INSIDE THE COMPUTER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES READING CODE P0109. WHEN IT STALLS IT GIVES NO WARNING AND NO INDICATIONS THAT THERE'S A PROBLEM WHICH CAN LEAD TO A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
I DROVE AN HOUR TO ANOTHER CITY. UPON ARRIVAL TO THE CITY I STOPPED THE CAR AND GOT OUT. I NOTICED THE BACK, DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS OPEN SLIGHTLY. I WENT TO CLOSE IT AND REALIZED THAT THE DOOR WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. THE LATCH WOULD NOT CATCH THE METAL PIECE ON THE FRAME OF THE CAR TO KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED. I COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT TYING THE DOOR WITH A ROPE TO THE INSIDE OF THE CAR TO KEEP IT FROM FLYING OPEN WHILE DRIVING. IT STILL WILL NOT REMAIN CLOSED AS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY PASSENGERS AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. THERE WAS A RECALL BY FORD FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM FOR THE MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR OF MY CAR, BUT MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL AND MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE PARKING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ON A SECOND OCCASION, THE VEHICLE ROLLED AGAIN AND PINNED THE CONTACT'S FRIEND, WHO SUFFERED AN INJURED LEG. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. THE CONTACT CALLED AIRPORT MARINA FORD (5880 W CENTINELA AVE, LOS ANGELES, CA 90045, (310) 574-2641) AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PLACED IN PARK PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER AND RECOMMENDED THE VEHICLE BE SERVICED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE BUSHING MAY HAVE DETACHED FROM THE TRANSMISSION CABLE AND THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD AN EXISTING POWER TRAIN WARRANTY FOR FIVE YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
AFTER DRIVING APPROX. 1/2 MILE ON A VERY BUSY CITY STREET AT MORNING RUSH HOUR, GOING APPROX 35 MPH, I STARTED COASTING DOWNHILL. SCREEN INDICATED HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE, ENGINE IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO STALL MAKING IT HARD TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. MESSAGE INDICATED TO PULL OVER & SHUT OFF ENGINE. TEMP GAUGE WAS ALL THE WAY IN THE RED. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC.
COOLANT OVERFLOW TANK IS LEAKING RESULTING IN LOW LEVELS OF COOLANT. COOLANT WAS NOTICED UNDER THE CAR AT 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. NOTICED A RECALL INCLUDING 2014 FORD ESCAPES WITH 1.6 LITER TURBOCHARGED 4 CYLINDER ENGINE HOWEVER MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED AND I FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED. RECALL STATES THAT LOW LEVELS OF COOLANT CAN CAUSE THE HEAD TO CRACK LEADING TO AN ENGINE FIRE.
BACK SEATS BUCKLES WITH NOT FASTEN. WIRING SYSTEM TRIPS MULTIPLE SENSORS SOMETIMES SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC
SEATBELT DOES NOT RETRACT. ONCE PULLED OUT SEATBELT HANGS OUT OF DOOR AND DOES NOT PULL BACK IN TO RETRACTOR.
COOLANT SYSTEM PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS. ENGINE OVERHEATING WARNING COMES ON WHEN CAR IS STARTED. CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE SENSOR CHANGED TWICE. LOSES COOLANT OVER TIME. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN PREVALENT IN FORD ESCAPES FOR YEARS AND SOME VEHICLES WERE RECALLED. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE RECALL DESCRIBED ISSUES BUT WAS NOT LISTED FOR RECALL. NEED SYSTEM FIXED.
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH AFTER ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED OUT OF DRIVE. I COULD HEAR IT CLUNK AND FEEL THE CAR JERK. I STOPPED AND DOWNSHIFTED BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I PUT IT IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I RESTARTED IT, SHIFTED TO DRIVE AND SLOWLY ACCELERATED. I GOT ABOUT 20 YARDS AND IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AGAIN. IT WOULDN'T SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR EXCEPT PARK. THIS WAS AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 100 MILES. I HAD NO ISSUES PRIOR TO THIS. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON UNTIL ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AND AS I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY A WARNING CAME ON SAYING "TRANSMISSION FAULT SEE SERVICE STATION". IT HAS 124,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE HAD IT FOR JUST UNDER 2 YEARS, BOUGHT USED, AND HAVEN'T HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION BEFORE NOW. I RESEARCHED INFO ONLINE AND IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM, BUT FORD IS NOT RECOGNIZING THIS AS AN ISSUE. TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD NOT JUST BREAK DOWN FOR NO REASON, AND IF THEY DO, FORD SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM.
