Coolant has leaked into my engine block causing damage to the engine. I have brought my car into the dealership on 3 different occasions with the same issue only to be told that something else was wrong with my vehicle. The first time I brought my vehicle in, it was covered (unknown to me) by a special service bulletin. I believe that I was intentionally misled so that the repair would not have to be covered. The first incident was on or around 2/1/23, the second incident was on or around 5/1/23, the third around 10/1/23 and most recently on 2/13/24
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced rough idling, with white smoke coming from the exhaust. The check engine warning light remained illuminated while driving. The vehicle was examined by the local mechanic who determined there was coolant inside the cylinder #3, which caused severe engine damage. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and the local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Dead in drive way no warning, got it running and had no power at all had it put on trailer and taken to local Ford engine cataropic failure due to coolant intrusion verified by Ford technician instructed replace motor and all associated one time use parts still in back lot open repair order.
Drivers side headlight burned out and had to replace. 3 months later passenger side headlight burned out. While at the shop to replace the passenger side, the drivers side burned out again. 4 months later the drivers side is out again. I'm afraid they are both going to go randomly one night while driving in the dark.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced cold start issues, requiring numerous attempts while starting the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle idled roughly once started. The contact stated that once the vehicle reached approximately 30 MPH there would be a white smoke cloud coming from the exhaust pipe. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that coolant had leaked into the engine block and that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle nearly to stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle was losing motive power. The driver pulled over and the vehicle stalled. The driver was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that his wife noticed the "Service Engine Soon" light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who determined that the vehicle was leaking coolant into the engine block. The contact had been advised by the mechanic that the engine failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the coils needed to be replaced due to coolant intrusion into the engine. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the warranty had expired. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
Dealer recommended lug nuts to be replaced. Called dealer to ask why lugs need to be replaced. Service advisor said lugs swell due to inferior materials. This vehicle only has 50,000 miles. This is not expensive to replace, makes you wonder if they cheap out on lug nuts what else is made cheap.
The contact called on behalf of a friend who owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while his friend was driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle emitted an abnormal sound. Additionally, there was significant amount of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The coolant temperature warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the head gasket was blown. The dealer informed the contact's friend that the vehicle could not be repaired under an unknown recall as the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 81,647.
2 weeks after our warranty expired for the power train we experienced failure with a misfire of Cylinder 1. We replaced all of the spark plugs at around 41,000 miles. 1 month into replacement cyclinder 1 misfired again, we replaced the spark plug thinking it was that and also the coil. 2 months after we are having the same issue, replaced the spark plug again, and the code will not go away, the check Englishwoman light continues to flash. I brought it to the dealership where it has been preliminarily determined I have a coolant intrusion in cylinder 1 and a new king block will be required at the tune of about 9k. There was tsb 19-2346 on my car and nothing was done to prevent this from happening. We suddenly lost all coolant around the same time we replaced the spark plugs as well. There was no visible leak. Ford needs to cover this repair in full, and issue a recall. My 17 year old drives this vehicle and when she was driving yesterday is when the failure began as she was turning left she had a sudden loss in power, almost getting tboned.
The fly wheel broke at the factory welds, and it is not covered by the warranty, but the same flywheel is used in the 2020 Ford Fusion and is being recalled for defects and covered under warranty.
I took my car into Lugoff Ford, in South Carolina today, because the passenger side dashboard is lifting up near the glove box, and I felt the transmission slip. I noticed this (Dash issue) has happened on the 2020 Fords. I was told today by the dealer that the "The Clips failed to secure the dash, probably because of to much vibration." I would have to pay $298.00 for a new dash, I have 17,279 miles on it, so under 20,000 miles these clips failed? It sat in my garage for the first 4 years of having the car. I'm 68 years old, and only drive to doctors mainly, not sure how much vibration I could cause on this, just concerned how many more people are actually doing the same, and no one is reporting them. Safety issue to me would be if the other clips failed on driver side, and the dash rose up BLOCKING YOUR VIEW WHILE DRIVING. I DO have Premium warranty on my car until 2026, but was told it doesn't cover the dash. Thank you for your assistance.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, she became aware of a failure with the software on the radio. The contact stated that while trying to connect the phone to the radio, the calls kept dropping, or she could not hear the other person over the radio, as intended. The contact stated the failure was dangerous since she had to maneuver the radio and the connection while driving, which w distracting to her while driving. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was repaired over a year ago; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer, and it was diagnosed that the EPAM needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that while researching online, she became aware of an unknown recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. However, the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
On Sat, Jan 14, started my car, it misfired on startup. Sun 1/15/23, started it, it misfired again. ‘Ck Engine light’ came on.Went to Advanced Auto Parts- code = P0304, Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected. Immed stopped driving vehicle-scheduled appt w/mechanic. Tuesday, Jan 17, drove vehicle to 1st Stop Auto, they diagnosed it, another code came up=P0316, Misfire Detected on Start-up (First 1000 Revolutions). They pulled all recalls, found out there's Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on my make and model dated 12/2019. Diagnosis of vehicle from mechanic: “Found coolant was low due to it getting into Cylinder 4. TSB for replacing the engine for this issue.”. I picked up vehicle and drove it to Pinnacle Ford to have them diagnose it. In 12/2019, Ford distributed an INTERNAL Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) to their service departments regarding this major issue, WITH NO RECALL, then in 2020, a Class Action Lawsuit was filed against Ford. Both the mechanic and dealer has told me that my SUV needs a new engine-long block because the EcoBoost engine is defective as coolant leaks into the cylinders, which causes misfires, damage to additional major parts of the engine, AND can cause fire. This is not only a major repair for a vehicle w/less than 68k miles, but also a MAJOR safety hazard and Ford Motor Company IS DOING NOTHING TO REPAIR OR COMPENSATE OWNERS THAT OWN OR LEASE THEIR PRODUCTS/VEHICLES! They're fully aware of problem & have been for close to 10 years. Pinnacle Ford Lincoln diagnosed vehicle & filed the issue via paperwork to Ford Motor Company TO SEE if they will offer financial assistance for repair. They would not provide me with a loaner as I’m without a vehicle due to their negligence. I contacted Ford 5x in the last week, as early as today. Their Customer Care dept could care less. I requested my call be expedited. Not one rep would do so. The TSB bulletin is 7 pages of information and parts that must be ordered to fix this problem.
The power steering suddenly stopped working on my 2018 Ford Escape when I turned my car on, with an odometer reading of under 26,000 miles. A "Steering fault" message suddenly appeared. If I had been driving on the highway or interstate at the time, this could have resulted in a serious and deadly accident. I called the Ford dealership and the representative told me it was safe to drive the car, and said that if I wanted to, I could just drive it without the power steering until they had the part in to fix it. I asked if that was safe and they said yes. I asked if they were sure it was safe. Then they went and checked with a tech person and told me it wasn't safe. The dealership confirmed the steering fault message and found codes U3000:49 and U3000:53. Notes from my very expensive invoice indicate "Pin Point test leads to internal fault with steering gear module remove and replace steering gear assy."
I own a 2018 Ford Escape. While starting up my car it started to shake, and I noticed the check engine warning light turned on. My car was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition coil and spark plugs had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. Upon start-up once again, the car started to shake, and the check engine warning light illuminated. I had to have it towed to the mechanics where it was diagnosed that cylinder #2 was misfiring, the head gasket leaked oil and coolant had leaked into the engine cylinder, and the engine needed to be replaced. I do not have $8-$12 thousand dollars lying around to replace the engine. I was advised to call the NHTSA Hotline. My car barely has 78,000 miles on it.
There have been several instances of the vehicle completely shutting off while sitting idle and at red lights. I took it to the dealership and there is coolant leaking into the cylinders causing it to misfire. This is very dangerous and could cause the car to run hot or burn up! The said I should replace the engine but FORD should be responsible as this seems to be a problem in many of their escapes!
See attached document for complaint
Coolant leaked into engine cylinder causing catastophic engine failure. My [XXX] daughter was driving down highway when car suddenly started shaking violently and engine light comes on. She managed to pull off without crashing. Had it towed to a Ford dealership. They diagnosed issue and replaced the engine. Took over 2 months to replace. See paperwork attached. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who made the contact aware of TSB: 10156569. The vehicle remained with the independent mechanic awaiting the diagnostic test and repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Coolant has leaked internally, without warning, until a few days ago when I got a "high engine temperature" warning and my car is now unusable. My engine is shot.
Took car in due to heater not working correctly, was not blowing hot air, was told coolant was leaking into engine, would need new engine, head gasket and block damaged. No warning or check engine lights on. Car is available for inspection if needed. I drive this car with ,y son on a daily basis if not for a cold front that past I would have never knew my heater didn't work and would be driving this car without knowing there was a problem which could lead me to be stranded. I was also told by the mechanic that this is not the first 2018 Ford Escape they have encountered with this same problem, they had worked on one just a week prior to me bring in my car. We were also informed by several Ford and other dealership service departments that it is an ongoing problem right now with all the 2018 escape to where there is a shortage of engines right now to replace them. I feel like this should qualify for a recall and that Ford needs to replace these engines at their cost since its a known fact online and in person that its faulty engines.
There is a recall for shifter cable issues. Had scheduled to have the recall done. While waiting on parts delay to have work completed was told can still use my ford escape. Driving one-day transmission lost all power I was able to get safely to side of road as it was late at night and not much traffic would have been a totally different outcome if in heavy traffic or traveling at highway speeds. Ford now tells me something broke in my transmission. Waited 3 weeks to find out they did the recall cable fix and inspected my transmission and told me something broke inside my transmission and now they expect me to pay 5K for a rebuilt transmission. Car only has 62,706 miles on it and they said the warranty exp at 60,000 miles. I find this interesting they have a transmission cable issue that causes the vehicle to not go into gear properly and now my transmission fails prematurely and they will not cover it. I am lucky i was not driving on highway when this issue happened could have been worse this needs to be looked into no reason for a vehicle that is up on all maint done by the dealer even at 30,000 miles did full service at dealer shop which included the transmission and at just over 60,000 miles transmission fails. I suspect it is related to this faulty cable and transmission not going properly or fully into gear. Someone needs to look into this issue and hold Ford accountable someone is going to get severely injured or worse.
the engine has a coolant leak in the cylinders, due to a bad design on the engine block, too many people experiencing the same issue, others with only 20k miles on their cars, ford won't even help paying the engine replacement, online there are thousand of people with the same issue, the design on the engine block let coolant go into cylinders ford is aware of this matter and they had redesign the engine already but they won't replace it since is not consider a recall even when this needs to be a recall since is a ford design issue
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH at night, the low-beam headlights turned off inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact immediately veered to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. The vehicle remained on the side of the road while the contact returned to his residence with the assistance of his fiancée. The contact returned to the vehicle during daytime and drove to his residence. The contact replaced the headlight bulbs with H9 headlight bulbs himself; however, the low-beam headlight bulbs remained inoperable. The high-beam headlights operated as needed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,850.
I was told after only 4 years the car has a major leak into the cylinder and needs a new engine. I have seen this problem online by many consumers and this needs to be corrected. In the last few days the engine light came on and I called and made an appointment. I noticed grey smoke only on start up now that the weather was getting colder.
2018 Ford escape with 53,700 miles. Ford designed a faulty metal plate between the cylinders. Too thin. It cracked. Coolant flooded the engine. The engine needed to be replaced. The dealership replaced the lower half of engine, luckily, before my 60,000 mile warranty. This is a common problem that has been happening since 2018!!! Please issue a recall. Ford is just waiting until people are stranded on the side of the road facing thousands of dollars in repairs!
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with the overheating and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a blown head gasket and that the tie rod had detached, causing damage to the suspension. There was white smoke coming from the engine, and the antifreeze temperature was high. The mechanic informed the contact that the head gasket and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 116,301.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle started to hesitate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who stated that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2. The contact was also informed that the engine needed to be rebuilt. The contact called the manufacturer who referred her to a dealer. The dealer was notified of the failure and scheduled an appointment. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 112,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the coil pack and spark plugs. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Engine died. Took it to a licensed mechanic and was told coolant leak caused total engine failure. Needs a new engine. Only 80000 miles.
We bought a 2018 Ford Escape 1.5 ecoboost. It was a one time owner. It had about 60,000 miles on it when we got it from a dealership in Montgomery AL. We drove the car for almost 2 months with no problems. All of a sudden out of no where it started leaking coolant. And taking it to the dealership it said it was running hot and popped up a message on the dash that said “high engine temperature drive safely”. The dealership replaced the engine under some kind of warranty with Ford, but I received my vehicle back unfixed. We have two young children and no vehicle to replace it. We are paying nearly 19,000 dollars for the car that we can not drive. $498 a month and $161 insurance a month. The prices to fix these Ford vehicles is outrages and money some people do not have. It is very unfair, and the Ford service departments know exactly what is going on with these vehicles. They are quick to diagnose the problem and they claim “the motors are garbage” so that tells me it a manufactured problem with the vehicles. So the people are supposed to struggle to pay for a vehicle that no longer works unless they find $6,000+ laying around. This needs to be fixed asap. You see all of these recalls on airbags and seat belts when this attempt to recall there’s certain ford vehicles have been going on for about 3-4 years and nothing has been done. It’s time for ford to stand up to their actions instead of continuing to put families out of vehicles. Some families depend on that ONE vehicle.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the tailgate failed to function as needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
This 2018 Ford Escape Titanium has 32,000 miles on is experiencing chronic, substantive defects in the rear powertrain. Specifically, it is having its second replacement rear differential unit (RDU) installed. This means it will have worn out 3 RDU's in 32,000 miles. -Original RDU was replaced at ~23,000 miles and failed ~30,000 miles. Third RDU in vehicle's life is currently being installed. Additionally, this vehicle has already had its Power Transfer Unit (PTU) replaced at 22,000 miles and is now on its third set of rear brake rotors. My contention is that there are serious, substantive defects in the vehicles rear powertrain causing premature wearing of the brakes and potential for serious accidents related to the loss of rear differential control and brake damage.
Coolant intrusion into the engine from the cylinder. Check engine light came on for a misfire. My mechanic read the diagnostic codes as a misfired cylinder. Ford admits they know this is an issue with the 1.5L Eco-boost Engine but will only cover 60% of the repair.
There is a coolant leak which is cause the car to make a misfire on cylinder 2. Car is overheating suddenly and can not drive
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle started overheating with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over on the side of the road and became aware that there was no coolant in the coolant reservoir. The contact added coolant and waited until the engine had cooled down. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that cylinder #2 was misfiring and there was coolant leaking into the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 94,000.
TOOK FORD ESCAPE TO DEALER BECAUSE OF SERVICE ENGINE ALERT. WAS TOLD IT PROBALLY NEEDED A TUNE UP OR A COMPRESSION PROBLEM. I THEN GOT A CALL BACK TO SAY COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDERS. AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO REBUILD THE BLOCK. SEEMS THEY WOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE SINCE THIS IS A CONTINUING PROBLEM FOR THE FORD ESCAPE SINCE 2013. TECH DID STATE THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEMS AND THEY GET SERVICE ALERTS ALL THE TIME.
Today for the second time the vehicle power steering failed at approx 40 mph. The service engine / Fault light then lighted. I pulled over and restarted the car (since this worked last time) and the power steering came back. After the first occurrence about 2 months ago we brought it to a dealer . Saybrook Ford Old Saybrook CT. They could not duplicate intermittant problem said it MAY need a steering GW-AR" but did retirieve at U300 repair code - they could not do a pinpoint test due to the stored code. Battery tested good. No repair done . Repair invoice available.
Piston #2 failed in the engine. The piston head broke and pieces of metal traveled through the engine. It is available for inspection. This occurred at night while driving down a state route at speeds between 50-55mph. The engine immediately began to run extremely rough, check engine light came on and began blinking, the car began to sputter and shake, which caused the car to become unsafe to operate. We had the vehicle towed to avoid causing any damage to the engine. The Ford dealership that we buy our cars from did the diagnosis, performed an engine tear down, and was able to determine the piston was the route cause. The technician confirmed that it was the piston itself that failed, and was not due to any maintenance issues, other part, or driver neglect. It has not been inspected directly by Ford, police, or insurance. It has only been inspected by the Ford certified technicians at the Ford dealership. We contacted Ford Motor Company's customer affairs department, opened a case with them in regards to the faulty part being installed when the the car was originally built. They have the pictures and service departments notes about the piston. There were no warning lamps, notifications, or alerts. The check engine light appeared the moment the failure happened, and began to blink. We did notice that the exhaust would expel a large amount of black smoke when we would need to accelerate the vehicle in areas such as highway on-ramps. That recurring behavior has been documented prior to this incident. Dealer made efforts in the past to investigate that issue but was unable to find a route cause.
The contact owned a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) and would like to be removed from the recall distribution list as she no longer owns the vehicle. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted.
swollen and deformed lug nuts told to me by ford dealer. They need to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated that on multiple occasions, the vehicle could not be restarted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who indicated that water was present inside the camshaft; additionally, the engine solenoids and engine hoses were worn and damaged. The vehicle was not repaired and later was taken to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.
Within 30,000 miles, my spark plugs failed and had me on the side of the road. By 60k miles, I needed a whole new engine. After the engine was put in, my purge valve went out. And now, at 110k miles, my transmission has blown.
Every morning after starting, a thick cloud of white smoke emits from the exhausts. It clears up after a minute or so but it happens in both hot and cold weather. Took the car to the mechanic and it was determined there is a head gasket leak. Vehicle runs fine and does not overheat. Upon further research, i noticed it is a common occurrence with Ford Escape owners and the manufacturer isn't doing anything about it.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the contact became aware of smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive to his residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the vehicle had engine block failure and that the engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 107,000.
