WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH AS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED ON IMPACT. THERE WAS MAJOR DAMAGE TO FRONT OF VEHICLE. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK
WE HAD TREAD SEPARATION ON OUR LEFT FRONT TIRE, RESULTING IN A BLOWOUT. FIRESTONE, STEELTEX A/T, LT265/75R16. NEAR ROLLOVER INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.*AK
SAFETY BELT ON PASSENGER SIDE OF MIDDLE BENCH WILL NOT LATCH. THIS HAS OCCURRED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE PART WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS FIXED FOR SOME TIME BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD A MYRIAD OF EXCUSES SUCH AS WRONG PARTS, WRONG TOOLS OR BACKORDERED.*AK
ON 7/18/02, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE QUICKLY WENT FLAT AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 65MPH. THE MILEAGE ON THE TIRE WAS 24,000. THE BRAND NEW SPARE, ALSO A FIRESTONE STEELTEX, WAS INSTALLED ON THE RIGHT FRONT, AND BLEW OUT AT APPROX 20 MILES. THE NUMBER ON THE NEW TIRE IS DH323XG12D, SERIAL # VNW81X03400. NUMBER ON THE TIRE WITH 24000 MILES IS D5323XG16L, SERIAL #VNW81X03400. THESE 2 FIRESTONE STEELTEX TIRE FAILURES OCCURRED ON THE SAME DAY LESS THAT A FEW HOURS APART. ROADS WERE DRY, AND TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 85 F. OBVIOUSLY, I LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN THE TIRES, AND REPLACED ALL 5 TIRES (YES, EVEN THE SPARE) WITH MICHELINS AT A COST OF OVER $1100. THESE ARE LOAD RANGE E TIRES WHICH MAKES THEM QUITE EXPENSIVE. ALTHOUGH THE FIRESTONE TIRES WERE NOT SUBJECTED TO RECALL, I WONDER WHY NOT. THE FIRESTONE DEALER I CONTACTED WAS EXTREMELY RUDE, AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO ABOUT THE FAILURE AS THEY WERE NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL. ALSO, FORD SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. TALK ABOUT PASSING THE BUCK. AT LEAST, I KNOW MY FAMILY IS NOW SAFE ON MICHELINS. I WOULD NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING WITH THE FIRESTONE BRAND AS I BELIEVE THEY HAVE SERIOUS QUALITY CONTROL PROBLEMS. WOULD BE PLEASED TO FURTHER DISCUSS THIS WITH ANYONE. I AM NOT PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, BUT HAVE NOTICED MANY OTHER FORD EXCURSIONS STILL WITH THE FIRESTONE STEELTEX TIRES ON THE GROUND, AND WONDER ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THOSE INVOLVED. TRANSMISSION FAILED AND VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND TO ACCELERATION. AT LAST INCIDENT FLUID CAME OUT FROM UNDERNEATH, CAUSING IT TO IGNITE WHILE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THIS WOULD BE THE THIRD TIME THE GASKET SEAL OF THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH MAIN CENTRAL VALVE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS A VIBRATION WAS NOTICEABLE. VECHILE HAD TENDENCY TO PULL TO THE LEFT. STOPPED AND CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE OF BOTH FRONT TIRES. PRESSURE OF BOTH FRONT TIRES WAS 62PSI HOT. STOPPED A WALMART SERVICE TO HAVE BALANCE CHECKED. RIGHT TIRE HAD A BULGE WHERE THE TREAD WAS SEPARATING FROM TIRE. TIRE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AT MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED PRESSURE. REMAINING TREAD DEPTH WAS 11/32.*AK
CONSUMER WAS SITTING AT A LIGHT WHEN ANOTHER DRIVER TRAVELING AT 50 MPH REAR ENDED THE CONSUNERS VEHICLE. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *JB CONSUMER STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS PUSHED INTO THE VEHICLE SITTING IN FRONT OF HERS AND TOTALLED THAT VEHICLE, THERE WERE 4 INJURIES IN THE ACCIDENT. *SCC
POOR PAINT JOB ,PAINT IS CRACKING DUE TO A DEFECT IN EITHER PAINT OR PRIMER
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXCURSION. WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKES FAILED AT LEAST EIGHT TIMES. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE BRAKES WERE OPERATING NORMALLY. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE COULD RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST FOR $85; YET, THE CONTACT DECLINED THE TEST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 254,000.
WHILE DRIVING 55-60MPH VEHICLE HIT A SMALL POTHOLE AND BEGAN BOUNCING ERRATICALLY, AND CONSUMER LOST CONTROL. CONSUMER WAS NOT ABLE TO KEEP VEHICLE IN LANE,AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL ONCE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TWICE; 1ST INCIDENT 06/03/02, AND 2ND INCIDENT 07/16/02. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING CHECKED BY DEALER.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING THE SPEED LIMIT ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, JUNE 2, 2002, WE HAD ONLY TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES, WHEN WE EXPERIENCED A TIRE EXPLOSION ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. THIS CAUSED US TO LOSE CONTROL OF OUR VEHICLE, CROSSING TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC, AND ENDING UP IN THE MEDIAN. BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE HAD TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 60 YARDS, TURNED SIDEWAYS, AND ALMOST ROLLED. MY EXCURSION WAS UP ON TWO WHEELS, NEARLY ROLLING OVER. IT STAYED SUSPENDED IN AIR FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE FALLING BACK DOWN ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED, AND NO PHYSICAL INJURY WAS INCURRED. HOWEVER, IT ENDANGERED THE LIFE OF MY FAMILY, AND TRAUMATIZED MY CHILDREN. THERE NEEDS TO BE A FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO FIRESTONE TIRES. THERE DEFINITELY IS A PROBLEM THERE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS TREAD ON RIGHT REAR TIRE SEPARATED FROM RIM. FIRESTONE,R4STEEL, TEX, P265/R1675, DOT # UNKNOWN.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH AND COMING UP ON A TRAFFIC LIGHT CONSUMER PROCEEDED TO GO, BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO HIGHER THAN 20MPH, RPMS WERE AT 2800.VEHICLE WAS CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION, AND COULD HAVE BEEN BROAD SIDED OR REAR ENDED. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH WHEN CONSUMER LOST CONTROL AND VEHICLE ROLLED OVER. ROOF ABOVE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS TOTALLY COLLAPSED. ROOF OVER SECOND ROW AND THIRD ROW SEATS REMAINED INTACT. CONSUMER FELT THAT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE ROOF SHOULD NOT HAVE COLLAPSED. THERE WERE TWO DEATHS. *AK *SLC
THE DEFECT IS CAUSING SEVERELY IMPAIRED HANDLING OF VEHICLE DURING TRAVEL TRAILER TOWING OPERATION. THE LOSS OF CONTROL DURING TRAVEL TRAILER TOWING OPERATION IS UNSAFE AND LIKELY TO CAUSE DEATH OR SUBSTANTIAL BODILY INJURY. THE TRAVEL TRAILER TOWING OPERATION IS BEING PERFORMED WITHIN THE SPECIFICATIONS OF TRAILER MANUFACTURER; HITCH MANUFACTURER, TIRE MANUFACTURER, AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY.
THE SIDEWALLS OF THE FOUR TIRES PEELED FROM THE CORDS/BELTS. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE SIDEWALL RUBBER APPEARED TO BE TOO THIN. SCC
FRONT IMPACT AT 40 MPH, VEHICLE ROLLED, THEN SLID INTO A DITCH. CONSUMER SUFFERED SPINE INJURIES, VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED.*JB *SLC
A CUSTOMER WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE IN A SLOT TWO FEET FROM A WALL WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING LOUD AND TOOK OFF. HE SAID HE WAS ON THE BRAKE VERY HARD AND HAD A HARD TIME COMING TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE HIT A SIGN AND BUMPED INTO A WALL OF THE HANDICAP RAMP. TREAD MARKS WERE SEEN ON THE PAVEMENT. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING AND ONLY SLIGHT DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE.*AK
WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED ON AN INCLINE VEHICLE WILL STALL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO DEALER ON ONE OCCASION, AND DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHEN BRAKING AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL, LIKE POWER STEERING GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER CAN'T REMEDY THE PROBLEM BUT THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY.*AK
VEHICLE SWAYS A LOT WHEN DRIVING, CONSUMER CONSTANTLY HAS TO COUNTER THAT. DEALER CANNOT FIND A PROBLEM.*AK
CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR FAILED, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STOP. *AK *JB
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES HARD, VEHICLE SWERVES LEFT OR RIGHT MAKING CONTROL VERY DIFFICULT. ON TWO OCCASIONS COULD NOT STAY IN LANE. HAVE HAD IT IN DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST 5 TIMES. DEALER HAS CHANGED DISCS, ROTORS, PADS, CALIPERS, AND HAVE SWAPPED PARTS FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THEY HAVE ALSO CHANGED TIE ROD. I HAVE ALSO CHANGED SHOCKS AND TIRES. DEALER SAYS THEY ALL DO THIS. MY WIFE WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE, AND HAD THERE BEEN CARS IN NEXT LANE I WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. TO MAKE IT WORSE TWO PEOPLE HAVE JUST DIED IN AN EXCURSION WHEN SHE LOST CONTROL ON HIGHWAY IN SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES.*AK
TRUCK KEEPS PULLING AND JUMPING ACROSS LANES AT SPEEDS OF 50 IT HAS BEEN AT FREEDOM FORD 3TIMES AND THE LAST TIME HAD AN ACCIDENT HITTING INTO A TRACTOR TRAILOR AS IT JUMPED FROM RIGHT LANE TO LEFT SMASHING MY MIRROR AND DOOR I USE THIS VECH. AS A LIVERY (LIMO) AND ARE AFRAID IT MIGHT KILL ME OR SOME ONE ELSE FMCC SAYS I HAVE TO WAIT 5 TIMES FOR LEMON LAW AND THEY ARE FIXING DOOR AND MIRROR BUT STILL DONT KNOW WHY IT PULLS THAT WAY. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO AND ARE SCARED OF DRIVING THIS VECH AGAIN. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PRODUCED A SINGLE LOUD "THUNK" AS IT SHIFTED FROM FIRST GEAR INTO SECOND GEAR WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED VERY HARD, WITH A BUMP, INTO SECOND GEAR. DROVE TRUCK THE REMAINING ONE MILE TO RESIDENCE. NEXT MORNING WHEN IT WAS COLD THE TRUCK SEEMED TO RUN OK. ABOUT 10 MILES INTO MY COMMUTE THE TRUCK WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. IT WAS NECESSARY TO ACCELERATE IN FIRST GEAR UNTIL ABOUT 2700 RPM THEN COMPLETELY LET OFF THE THROTTLE AND THEN DEPRESS THE THROTTLE AGAIN TO GET THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT UP. THIS SHIFT WAS VERY HARD - JERKED THE VEHICLE- AND MADE A LOUD "THUNK". ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS IN SECOND GEAR IT SHIFTED UP TO THE OTHER GEARS WITHOUT A PROBLEM AND WAS NOT A PROBLEM TO DRIVE - HOWEVER THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED AT EVERY STOP. DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION.
WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIES THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WILL VIBRATE AND THE PEDAL WILL PULSATE. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE WAS MISSING WHICH CAUSED THE WIPER ARM TO BREAK, ALSO VEHICLE WAS PULLING TO THE LEFT WHEN BRAKING, THE DEALER PERFORMED SUSPENSION WORK ON THE VEHICLE, VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING A COOLANT LEAK, DEALER REPLACED THE RADIATOR HOSE.*JB
TRAVELING AT 65MPH WHEN RIGHT SIDE REAR TIRE SIDEWALL BLEWOUT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE. MANAGED TO SLOW DOWN AND PROCEEDED TO STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. SIDEWALL COMPLETELY DISENTEGRATED. TREAD STILL INTACT. LOCAL FIRESTONE RETAILER RULED OUT ROAD HAZARD AND CONFIRMED SIDEWALL FAILURE, SUGGESTED PRO RATING TIRE FOR REPLACEMENT BUT LATER ADVISED AGAINST REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO THE VEHICLE AS A RESULT OF THE BLOWOUT. REFERED ME TO FIRESTONE TECHNICAL SERVICES FOR DAMAGE CLAIM.*AKY (DOT NUMBER: VNW81X0510 TIRESIZE: 265/75R/16)
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING VEHICLE SHUTDOWN. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP.*AK
EXCURSION WAS BOUGHT 7-01 APPROXIMATELY 3MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE HEAD LAMP SWITCH BROKE OFF. TOOK TRUCK INTO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD BE 190.00 TO FIX. UPON RESEARCH FOUND THAT THE 2000 MODEL EXCURSION HAD A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM [NHTSA RECALL NO. 01V075/FORD RECALL NO. 01S09] THE PART NO. FOR THE 2000 AND 2001 HAS BEEN REPLACED. IT WOULD BE LOGICAL TO ME IF THE PART NUMBER FOR THE 2000 EXCURSION AND THE 2001 EXCURSION ARE THE SAME THEN THEY BOTH SHOULD BE RECALLED. IN ADDITION THE PASSENGER FRONT AND SIDE DOOR DO NOT LOCK WHEN INTERNAL BUTTON IS DEPRESSED. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DO NOT SHUT OFF IF THE BACK HATCH IS OPENED AND MOISTURE IS PRESENT. DRIVERS SEAT IS STUCK DOES NOT GO FORWARD OR BACK, MOTOR WORKS SEAT WILL NOT MOVE. *TR
TRUCK HAS BEEN INTO FORD TWICE, WITH A THIRD APPOINTMENT ON 10/30/01, SYSTEMS HAVE FAILED 4 TIMES NOW WHILE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. HEADLIGHTS AND RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE NOT BEEN ON TO NOTICE IF THEY TO ARE AFFECTED. *AK
THERE IS A SLIGHT VIBRATION AT 30 MPH, AND AT 70 MPHN IT GETS WORSE. STEERING WHEEL STARTS TO SHAKE. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY PUT A DAMPER ON VEHICLE, VIBRATION STOPPED JUST A LITTLE. CONSUMER STATED THAT DEALER COULD NOT FIND A SOLUTION. *AK
VEHICLE HAS HAD TWO SEPARATE TIRE INCIDENTS. FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WHICH WENT FLAT WITHOUT WARNING WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. DEALER WAS ABLE TO REPAIR SEAM OF TIRE. ON SECOND INCIDENT, LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. TIRE SHREDDED. FIRESTONE, STEELTEX, ALTERRAIN, P265/75R16. TIRES WERE PURCHASED WITH VEHICLE AND HAVE APPROXIMATELY 4400 MILES ON THEM. *AK
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP WITH A RUMBLING NOISE COMING FROM SOMEWHERE IN THE DRIVETRAIN. REAREND HAS BEEN REPLACED, TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED, DAMPNERS IN EXHAUST, AND NOW THE REAREND AGAIN IS OUT TO PUT SHIMS IN IT. THE NOISE IS STILL THERE AT APPROX. 42 MPH. WE WANT TO TRADE THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER EXCURSION BUT THE DEALER CAME OUT WITH A CRAZY TRADE AMT. WE WANTED A NEW EXCURSION BECAUSE WE DO NOT WANT A VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN RIPPED APART 4 TIMES, AND FOR RESALE REASONS. THE DEALERSHIP AND MFG DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE AND I HAVE BEEN A FORD OWNER FOR 25 YEARS..
AT 70 MPH THE VEHICLE LOSES CONTROL WHEN IT HITS AND UNEVEN ROAD. THE VEHICLE BOUNCES A LOT AND THERE IS EXCESSIVE VIBRATION AT 65MPH. THE CRUISE CONTROL SURGES WHEN SET AT APPROXIMATELY 70MPH.
WAS DOING 70MPH WHEN RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEWOUT. MANAGED TO CONTROL AND STOP VEHICLE. SIDEWALL WAS SHREDDED, BUT TREAD HAD REMAINED INTACT ON TIRE. MANAGED TO TAKE VEHICLE TO TIRE RETAILER , AND THEY REPLACED ALL TIRES. FIRESTONE, STEEL TEX, LT265/75R16, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT.*AK TIRE PRESSURE ONE WEEK PRIOR TO INCIDENT WAS 65 PSI, TIRE WAS A FIRESTONE STEELTEX A/T, DOT NUMBER VNW81X02900. *SLC
WHEN TOWING BOAT IN HOT WEATHER THE TRANSMISSION STARTED LEAKING FROM REAR SEAL. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO DEALER 3 TIMES TO REMEDY PROBLEM. HAVE NOT TOWED BOAT SINCE SO NOT SURE IF IT WILL RETURN. *LA

THERE IS A CONSTANT LOUD RATTLING WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE, AT ANY SPEED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER 6 TIMES, MECHANIC STATED THAT BODY HAD BEEN WELDED TO FRAME CROOKED, AND FRAME MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORD MOTOR COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE STATED THE RATTLING IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF VEHICLE.*AK
FORD EXCURSION WITH 2700 MILES SHOWED SEVERE WEATHER CHECKING ON THE WHITE LETTER SIDE OF ALL FOUR TIRE SIDEWALLS. THE TIRES APPEARED AS IF THEY WERE ROTTING AWAY. A FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY WERE NOT IN THE TIRE BUSINESS AND REFUSED TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM. FIRESTONE INDICATED THAT IT WAS NORMAL WEAR UNTIL I INDICATED THAT I WANTED THEIR OPINION IN WRITING. FIRESTONE THEN REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES, CHARGING ME FOR LABOR, BALANCING, STEMS, ETC. THE MEDIA HAS INDICATED THAT THESE TIRES ARE NOW FAILING LIKE THOSE FOUND ON THE FORD EXPLORERS. I HAVE NO FAITH IN FIRESTONE OR THE TIRES AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL ON THE STEELTEX RADIALS. DT

WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND ROAD IS JUST A BIT UNEVEN, VEHICLE BOUNCES ALL OVER ROAD. HARD TO CONTROL, THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN TOWING TRAILER. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT THE FRONT BOTTOMS OUT AND CAUSES THE FRONT END TO RISE SUDDENLY, CONSUMER FEELS THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE RUBBER STOPPERS THAT ARE BOLTED TO THE FRAME THAT KEEP THE SPRING FROM HITTING THE FRAME, THE ONES ON THIS VEHICLE ARE ONLY 3/4 INCH CLEARANCED FROM THE TOP OF THE SPRING TO THE STOPPER, CONSUMER STATES MOST VEHICLES HAVE 4 INCHES. *SLC
FAILURE OF CRUISE CONTROL TO CANCEL FROM THE STEERING WHEEL OR FROM THE BRAKE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED AT APPROXIMATELY 65-70 MPH. AFTER APPLYING THE FOOT BRAKE THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO REDUCE THE SPEED EVEN AS THE RPM CONTINUED TO STAY AT 2000RPM, ALTHOUGH IT TOOK A MUCH GREATER DISTANCE THAN NORMAL. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A STOP AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT 2000RPM. THE CANCEL BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE THE ENGINE RPM AT 2000, AND NEITHER WOULD THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PULLED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND AND PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT 2000RPM. I APPLIED MORE FUEL AND WAS ABLE TO REV THE ENGINE BETWEEN 2000 AND 3000RPM ONLY. THE CANCEL BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED TO BE INOPERABLE. FINALLY, AT ONE POINT, I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE RPM THEN DROPPED TO THE NORMAL IDLE RANGE. I THEN OPENED THE HOOD AND INSPECTED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BUT WAS UNABLE TO SEE ANYTHING SIGNIFICANT TO HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAVE OCCURRED. I CONSIDER MYSELF QUITE LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN IN THE PARTICULAR DRIVING SITUATION WHERE I HAD AMPLE ROOM TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WITHOUT HAVING BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR TO HAVE INVOLVED OTHERS IN AN ACCIDENT. MY SUSPICIONS ARE THAT THE CODE THAT MONITORS THE SWITCHES WAS SOMEHOW CONFUSED. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO COVERT FORD WHERE IT HAS BEEN SINCE 11/14/2000. YESTERDAY, I AM TOLD, A FMC TECHNICAL REP HAS LOOKED OVER THE VEHICLE. TO DATE NO ONE ELSE , I AM TOLD, HAS BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME REPORTING THIS PROBLEM. THE INITIAL REPORT WAS IDENTIFIED BY NHTSA AS "ODI-735-005" BUT THE REPORT DOES NOT APPEAR ON YOUR DATABASES. *AK

HAVE THERE BEEN ANY OTHER REPORTS OF SUCH AN INCIDENT ON FORD EXCURSION OR FORD F250 FROM WHICH THIS MODEL IS DERIVED?

DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF VEHICLE UNDERSIDE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. DRIVER WAS DIRECTED BY OTHERS TO PULL OVER, AND FIRE WAS PUT OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. DEALERSHIP EXAMINED VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE BROKE AND LEAKED FLUID ONTO EXHAUST MANIFOLD, RESULTING IN A FIRE.
