KEPT HAVING TO REPLACE FUSE #45 ON MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION LIMITED DIESEL 4X4. AFTER PUTTING INTO ANY GEAR, GO TO GIVE IT FUEL IT WOULD NT DO ANYTHING. RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS OTHERS WITH FORD TRUCK 1999-2003 HAVING SAME PROBLEM AND READ WHAT THEY DID TO FIX IT. APPARENTLY IN THE GEAR SHIFT, THERE ARE 3 VERY SHORT WIRES THAT WERE FRAYING DUE TO BE PINCHED. SO SINCE IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY WE HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING BOX COVER REMOVED AND THERE IT WAS, THE WIRES WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY FRAYED. THEY WERE FIXED AND ANOTHER FUSE WAS INSTALLED ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRUCK WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND SPENT $600 ON A NEW FUSE BOX SINCE THE ORIGINAL ONE WAS FRIED DUE TO THE FRAYED WIRES. I DRIVE 60 MILES ONE WAY TO WORK EVERYDAY AND HAVE 2 LITTLE GIRLS AND THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE AND BELIEVE ME, FORD WOULD HAVE BEEN IN BIG TROUBLE. SO IF OTHERS ARE HAVING THE VERY SAME PROBLEM, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL. IT HAS BEEN NOTED ON THE INTERNET IN VARIOUS PUBLIC FORUMS. COMPENSATION FOR ME AND OTHERS WITH AN ADDITION TO A RECALL WOULD BE THE SOLUTION AND GREATLY APPRECIATED BEFORE THIS CAUSES DEATHS. *JB
IN EARLY DECEMBER 2006 WE WERE OUT CHRISTMAS SHOPPING WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP FOLLOWED BY A SHARP DECREASE IN POWER AND FOLLOWING POP SOUNDS. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE ENGINE. AT FIRST I JUST NOTICED THE COIL HAD BLOWN OFF THE HEAD. I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE JUST BEEN A WEIRD OCCURRENCE WITH A BAD COP BUT LATER FOUND THAT THE SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE #6 CYLINDER DESTROYING THE COP. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED BACK TO MY RESIDENCE AND THE NEXT MORNING I LOOKED IT OVER. THE SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT STRIPPING THE THREADS. AFTER LOOKING ON THE NET, I FOUND THAT THIS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND ENGINE TYPE. *JB
THE CPS (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR) FAILED WITH NO WARNING AT ALL. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT IS NOT A MOVING PART, AND SHOULD HAVE LASTED HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES. I UNDERSTAND THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. SIGN ME ON TO THAT BANDWAGON. *NM
CAM POSITION SENSOR FAILURE ON A 2002 FORD EXCURSION WITH A 7.3L POWERSTROKE AT 42,800 MILES. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXCURSION. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S HORN BEGAN TO SOUND INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO PULL THE HORN PAD OUT OF POSITION. THE DEALER HAS THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 200,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. UPDATED 06/14/07.*JB
MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION HAD A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE RESULTING IN A NEAR FATAL SITUATION. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY FOUND A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE PLASTIC WHEEL WELL LINER ON THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL WAS POSITIONED AGAINST THE METAL BRAKE LINE FROM THE ABS PUMP AND FROM THE VEHICLE MOTION THE LINER HAD WORN A HOLE IN THE METAL LINE CAUSING TOTAL FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. *JB
LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE RESULTING IN ROLLOVER CRASH. EXACT DEFECT UNCERTAIN (HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY) BUT PROBABLY RIGHT REAR WHEEL LOCKED WITH INABILITY TO STEER VEHICLE AS RESULT. ALSO, SEVERAL MONTH HISTORY OF DIFFICULTY WITH BRAKES FOR MONTHS WITH IDENTIFIABLE CAUSE DESPITE 4 VISITS TO FORD MECHANICS. *JB
TRUCK STARTED TO STOP AND STALL. HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 5 TIMES LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN IT FINALLY STOPPED THE TRUCK DEAD. *TR
BRAKE ROTORS WARP EXCESSIVELY. JUST PURCHASED USED VEHICLE, HAD TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED AND BRAKE SYSTEM SERVICED AFTER 5,000 MILES. VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY UPON APPLICATION OF BRAKE. FORD SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES THAT INSPECTED THE BRAKE SYSTEM STATED THAT THE PADS LOOKED ALMOST NEW. IN DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET THIS EXACT SCENARIO SEEMS TO BE PLAYING OUT WITH 2000 - 2004 EXCURSION MODELS. OTHER OWNERS CLAIM TO HAVE THE BRAKE SERVICED AND ROTORS TURNED EVERY 15000 - 25000 MILES. IT SEEMS THAT THE ROTORS ARE NOT ADEQUATE TO HANDLE THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE WITH OUT NEEDING EXCESSIVE SERVICE ON A FREQUENT BASIS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE MERGING WITH TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE AT 55MPH, A SPARK PLUG BLEW UPWARD INTO THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL AND OPERATE AT A REDUCED SPEED. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER SUGGESTED REPLACING THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE SUSTAINED BY THE SPARK PLUG, BUT NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE ,CAUSING A HOLE TO BE BLOWN IN THE IGNITION COIL. THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP PERSONAL REPLACED THE COIL PACK, DRILLED AND TAPPED THE MOTOR HEAD ON THE NUMBER THREE CYLINDER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 65 MPH, I HEARD A THUMP UNDER THE HOOD AND THEN MY ENGINE BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD CLUNKY SOUND (ALMOST AS IF THERE WERE NO MUFFLER). ONE OF THE SPARKS PLUGS HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE! LUCKILY, MY EXCURSION WAS STILL DRIVABLE AND I WAS WITHIN A FEW MILES OF MY HOME AND COULD PARK IT UNTIL I COULD SEEK REPAIRS ON MONDAY. I DID NOT TAKE IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP (TRUST ISSUES). I TOOK IT TO TUNE-UP 2000, WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE SPARK PLUG THREADS HAD STRIPPED OUT CAUSING IT TO BLOW FORM THE ENGINE. IT HAD TO BE RE-THREADED, COSTING ME $500. THIS PUTS MY REPAIR BILLS, FOR MY LESS THAN FOUR YEAR OLD EXCURSION, AT OVER $3500 IN 2005. THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT THIS SUMMER DUE TO A CRACKED TRANSMISSION CASE. *JB
DT: 2002 FORD EXCURSION. THERE IS A SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED ON EVERY FORD TRUCK EXCEPT THE FORD EXCURSION ,AND THE RECALL NUMBER IS 05S28. THE IDENTICAL SWITCH IS IN THE CONTACT'S FORD EXCURSION WHICH CAUGHT ON FIRE ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2005. HAD CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE TURNED OVER TO THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT, AND THEY WOULD RENDER THE OPINION TODAY. CONTACTED FORD AGAIN , AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD REESCALATE THE PROBLEM. WAS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL TOO VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED. THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS ON VEHICLE WHEN PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER 2001. THE FIRE WAS SMALL, AND THE VEHICLEWAS NOT DRIVABLE, AND THERE WAS NO PROPERTY DAMAGE. THERE WERE TWO PEOPLE IN VEHICLE WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIR,E BUT THEY WERE NOT INJURED. HAD NOT REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO INSURANCE AGENCY.*AK
THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLLER FOR THE OVER DRIVE LOCK SWITCH IS SHORTING OUT IN MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION. I EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE GAUGES TURNING OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING AROUND ATLANTA, GA WITH MY FAMILY. THE BATTERY WENT DEAD BECAUSE THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE DASH GAUGES BLEW. THE ALTERNATOR QUIT CHARGING THE BATTERY, AND THE GAUGES QUIT WORKING. I DID NOT NOTICE THIS PROBLEM UNTIL I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND THE ENGINE DIED. I RESTARTED THE CAR, PUT IT IN DRIVE AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO STALL AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT. TAKE OFF WAS VERY SLUGGISH. THE ENGINE RAN FOR ABOUT 300 FEET AND DIED AGAIN SO I PULLED INTO A CONVENIENCE STORE PARKING LOT. I DETERMINED THE BATTERY WENT DEAD AND BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE TO GET ME HOME. MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR TO A SERVICE CENTER AND THEY FOUND THE BAD FUSE FOR THE DASH GAUGES. THIS WAS ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO. THE CAR HAS BLOWN SEVERAL FUSES SINCE. TODAY THE CAR'S GAUGES WOULD WORK INTERMITTENTLY. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE GAUGES WOULD GO ONE AND OFF WHEN I TRIED TO SET THE CRUISE CONTROL OR MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER. WHEN I GOT HOME THIS EVENING I DISASSEMBLED THE PLASTIC COVERS FOR THE STEERING COLUMN. I FOUND THAT THE WIRE FOR THE OVER DRIVE LOCK OUT SWITCH HAS INSULATION THAT HAS RUBBED OFF LEAVING A HOLE. THE EXPOSED WIRING IS GROUNDING OUT ONTO THE SHAFT OF THE GEAR SHIFT THAT PARALLELS THE STEERING COLUMN. PLEASE INFORM FORD OF THE POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD, AND LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY HAVE TO FIND A BETTER WAY OF ROUTING WIRE AROUND MOVING METAL SURFACES TO PREVENT SHORTING OUT THE WIRING. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXCURSION. WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING AND CRASHED INTO THE FRONT OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER WHO REPLACED THE THROTTLE CABLE. THE FAILURE HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE THE REPLACEMENT WAS MADE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 95,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,300. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED AN EYEWITNESS STATEMENT, FREEPORT POLICE REPOR, VARIOUS ARTICLES PERTAINING TO THE DEFECT, AND THE REPAIR INVOICE. THE DEALER STATED THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF FUEL, PASSENGER DOOR DOES NOT LOCK WITH REMOTE, AND CUSTOMER OVERHEAD DOOR IS BROKEN. UPDATED 08/27/07 *TR
MY PROBLEM IS THE TRUCK HAS WARPED 4 SETS OF FRONT ROTORS IN 80,000 MILES. IT HAS YET TO EVEN WEAR THE REAR ROTORS. EACH TIME IT HAS WARPED THE ROTORS THE PADS WERE REPLACED. THE FIRST 2 SETS OF ROTORS WERE FROM FORD. I THEN PURCHASED HIGH PERFORMANCE SLOTTED ROTOR WITH SPECIAL PADS. THIS MADE NO DIFFERENCE TO THE WARPING PROBLEM. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER OWNERS OF EXCURSIONS AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD SAYS (DEALER & FACTORY REP) THIS IS NORMAL WEAR. MY EMPLOYMENT PUTS ME ON THE ROAD APPROXIMATELY 6 TO 8 HOURS PER DAY. I HAVE OWNED A FORD BRONCO FULL SIZE, FORD F150 FULL SIZE, DODGE RAM 2500, NISSAN, PLUS SEVERAL CARS. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THAT I HAVE EVER HAD A WARPING PROBLEM. I FEEL THE EXCURSION IS PUTTING TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE FRONT BRAKES AND/OR NOT MUCH ON THE REAR. THIS SEEMS TO MAKE THE TRUCK HARDER TO STOP IN QUICK STOPS - THUS MAY CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO INABILITY TO STOP IN TIME.

IF BOTTOM DOORS ARE SHUT AFTER HATCH IS LOWERED,HATCH DOWN FIRST AND THEN SHUT THE DOOR VERY LIGHTLY THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED AND CRASHED TO THE GROUND. NO WARNING STICKER, BUT THERE WAS DIRECTIONS IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. WENT TO FORD DEALER AND DID NOT GET ANY RESULTS.*AK
THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD WHILE BEING PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR MORE THEN 10 HOURS OR MORE. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE CONSUMER NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER. *AK THE MAIN BODY OF THE FIRE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE. *SC *JB
THE SUV TRUCK WAS INVOLVED IN A T-BONE COLLISION OF 55 MPH AND NEITHER FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. NO ONE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL, BUT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AND THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *JB
COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. IN OUR TRUCK, THE LEFT REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTOR BOLT LOOSENED AND DETACHED OF ITS OWN ACCORD WHILE BUCKLING CHILD IN BOOSTER SEAT. CAR WAS DRIVEN DIRECTLY TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. SERVICE MANAGER VERIFIED MECHANISM HAD NOT BEEN ALTERED. ORIGINAL LOCK-TIGHT HAD NOT HELD BOLT, PERHAPS NOT ENOUGH LOCK-TIGHT APPLIED. HE APPLIED MORE LOCK-TIGHT AND RE-BOLTED SEAT BELT RETRACTOR. SEEMED TO BE HOLDING UP FINE. HOW MANY OTHER BOLTS WERE LEFT NOT TIGHTENED ON UNSUSPECTED EXCURSIONS, AND WERE VULNERABLE TO DETACHING WITH EVENTUAL USE OR IN AN ACCIDENT? IT WAS DREADFUL TO THINK THAT JUST MINUTES BEFORE DETACHING.*AK
THE SPARK PLUG POPPED OUT OF THE HEAD OF MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION. THE DEALER REPAIRED IT AT A COST OF AROUND $500.00. THEY TOLD ME THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE AND I WAS LUCKY I DIDN'T BLOW THE MOTOR AT A $7000,00 COST. I FIRST FELT LUCKY WHEN I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY TOO SAID IT WAS NEW TO THEM ALSO. MANY OF MY FRIENDS SAY THIS PROBLEM IS A COMMON ONE. NOW I WANT TO KNOW HOW COMMON AND IF SO WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR DESIGN FLAW.
WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE VEHICLE WAS BY SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF. THE DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT COULD NOT OFFER ANY REMEDY. *TT
WHEN CLOSING THE BACK HATCH THE TAILGATE GLASS SHATTERED WITHOUT WARNING. NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A CLANKING NOISE AND FELT VIBRATION. CONSUMER PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF THE FREEWAY, AND TOWED IT TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT TRANSFER CASE WAS SEPARATING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. *AK *NM
THE CONSUMER RECEIVED LETTER REGARDING RECALL # 03T0020000. HOWEVER, BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE HAS NOT COOPERATED WITH THE CONSUMER. THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT. CHUNKS OF THE TIRE DAMAGED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, AND FORD SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
MY HUSBAND WAS BUCKLING OUR 3 YEAR OLD IN HER CAR SEAT IN OUR 2002 EXCURSION AND THE SEAT BELT DETACHED FROM THE FRAME OF THE CAR. LEFT 2ND SEAT: SEAT BELT BOLT (LOCATION-RETRACTOR ATTACHED AT FRAME) WAS EITHER NOT PROPERLY TIGHTENED, LOCKED TIGHT IMPROPERLY APPLIED OR NUT IS ILL-FITTING CAUSING NUT TO SEPARATE FROM BOLT, POSSIBLY RELATED TO PIVOTING RETRACTOR DESIGN. SEAT BELT DETACHED AT RETRACTOR AND BECAME UNUSABLE. FORTUNATELY DISCOVERED WHILE CAR PARKED AND BUCKLING CHILD INTO BOOSTER SEAT. IF ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED PRIOR, SEAT BELT WOULD HAVE SEPARATED AND FAILED, AND CHILD WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR KILLED! LOCKTIGHT WAS RE-APPLIED AND NUT WAS RE-ATTACHED TO BOLT AT PROPER TORQUE. *JB
FIRESTONE STEELTEX TIRES EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. *BF THE OWNER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SC *JB
2002 FORD EXCURSION. REAR GLASS SHATTERED AND FELL ON THE GROUND WHEN OUR CHILD ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE REAR GLASS AND THE TWO REAR GATES IN THE INCORRECT ORDER. THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT AND POSES A SIGNIFICANT RISK TO HUMANS SHOULD THE REAR GLASS FALL ONTO A PERSON WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE THE REAR GLASS AND GATES. THE DEFECT IS THAT THE REAR GLASS AND THE LOWER GATES ARE DESIGNED SUCH THAT IF THEY ARE OPERATED IN THE INCORRECT FASHION, WITH THE UPPER GLASS LOWERED FIRST AND THEN THE LOWER GATES ATTEMPTED TO BE SWUNG CLOSED, THE LOWER GATES IMPINGE WITH A VERY LONG TORQUE ARM ON THE GLASS OF THE UPPER WINDOW, AND THE RESULTANT FORCE LITERALLY CAUSES THE UPPER GLASS TO SHATTER. THE SHATTERED "SAFETY GLASS" THEN FALLS ON THE GROUND AT THE OPERATOR'S FEET, OR WORSE, SOME OF THE SMALL AND VERY SHARP GLASS FRAGMENTS FLY HORIZONTALLY AND LAND ON THE OPERATOR OR OCCUPANTS. IN OUR CASE, A ADOLESCENT CHILD WAS THE OPERATOR, AND LUCKILY AVOIDED INJURY. THERE WERE THREE OTHER CHILDREN INSIDE THE REAR COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE, AND GLASS SHOWERED INTO THE COMPARTMENT AND ONTO THEIR LEGS, BUT NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, BUT THERE IS NO RECOURSE AT THIS POINT. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NO RECALL IN EFFECT. CURIOUSLY, I PERSONALLY KNOW OF FOUR OTHER SUCH INCIDENTS IN THE TOWN IN WHICH I LIVE, AND THOSE FOLKS ALSO FOUND NO RECOURSE WITH THE FORD DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER.*AK
INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OUT. THIS STARTED HAPPENING OUT OF NOWHERE ONE DAY. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR NIGHT DRIVING. I SUSPECT THIS IS A DEFECT IN MANY EXCURSIONS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING 38 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED OR HEARD OF A PROBLEM OF THIS NATURE. THIS IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE. TRAVELING EAST BOUND ON I-84 10 MILES FROM MOUNTAIN HOME, IDAHO WHEN MY LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND THEN THE TIRE BLEW. TIRE TYPE WAS A FIRESTONE LT 365/75R16 LOAD RANGE D STEELTEX R4S MODEL. THE THREAD DAMAGE MY QUARTER PANEL, WHEEL WELL SPLASH GAURDS AND PAINT ON VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVEL AT 75 MPH WITH MY TIRE PRESSURE SET AT RECOMMENDED PRESSURE SET BY FORD AT 45 PSI FRONT AND 55 PSI IN THE REAR. VEHICLE WAS 2002 FORD EXCURSION XLT. I FILE A INSURANCE CLAIM FOR REPAIR AND THEY COMPLETED ON SEPT. 10, 2004. ON SEPT 14, 2004 I CONTACT FIRESTONE TECH SERVICES ABOUT THE TIRE. THEY WILL SEND A COMPLAINT AND INSTRUCTION HOW FILE A CLAIM.

I STARTED EXPERIENCING VIBRATING IN MY STEERING WHEEL DURING BRAKING SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. THE VIBRATION CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. I HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED AND I FOUND OUT THAT ALL FOUR ROTORS WERE WARPED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 27000 MILES ON IT AND THE BRAKE PADS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THROUGH RESEARCH I FOUND THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD ROTOR PROBLEMS AT A VERY EARLY STAGE ON THEIR FORD EXCURSIONS. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS OR REPAIR THE PROBLEM AT THEIR COST.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ENDED UP IN A DITCH. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLES TIRES LOSE AIR PREMATURELY. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. HOWEVER, THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. AFTER PURCHASING A USED VEHICLE FROM INTERNET AUTO SALES IN RENO, NEVADA, THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. THE BRAKES PULLED THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CALIPERS AND PADS AND TURNED THE ROTORS AND TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. AFTER TEST DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHCILE WAS SENT TO THE LOCAL LITHIA DEALER AND THEY ENDED UPREPLACING THE ABS SENSOR ONCE. AFTER THAT THE VEHCILE DID NOT IMPROVE. SO, THE VEHCILE WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER TOOK THE BRAKE SYSTEM APART AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEY RETURNED THE VEHICLE AND SOON AS I DROVE IT, THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE CORRECTLY. THEY TOOK THE VEHCILE BACK AND THEY REPLACED SOME MORE BRAKE PARTS, BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLE,. IN FACT, THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE. NOW, THE BRAKES ARE PULLING BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. THERE IS NO RHYME OR EASON AS TO WHY IT WILL PULL ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND I HAVE ASKED THE DEALER TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE BACK BECAUSE IT IS A LEMON, BUT THEY REFUSE TO BUY THE VEHICLE BACK. MY ONLY OPTION IS TO CONTINUE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HOPEFULLY, THEY WILL REPLACE EVERYTHING SO THAT THE BRAKES WILL WORK CORRECTLY. GOODRICH OR NO TIRES REPLACED. CONSUMER PREFERS KEEPING MICHELIN TIRES. NO COMPENSATION OFFERED. CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A BLOW OUT WITH FIRESTONE STEELTEX ON PREVIOUS MODEL EXCURSION (2000) AND FILED COMPLAINT AND DID NOT RECIEVE ANY RESPONSE. FRONT ROTORS RUSTED IN CENTER AREA BETWEEN ROTOR BRAKE SURFACE. AT 30,000 MILES MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHEN BRAKING AT SPEEDS ABOVE 40 MPH. LUCK FOR US WE WERE DRIVING IN LOWER SPEED CONDITIONS IN RESIDENTIAL TRAFFIC. I INSPECTED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS FOR PROBLEMS AND FOUND LARGE AMOUNTS OF RUST DECAY IN THE ROTORS CAUSING THE WARPING TO THE ROTORS. I HAVE SERVICED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS. I HAVE KEPT THESE ROTORS IF ANY ONE SHOULD LIKE TO FURTHER LOOK INTO THIS SITUATION. WE LIVE IN THE DESERT WITH VERY LOW RAIN OR SNOW. NOW SALTS ARE USED IN MY HOME AREA. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH CORROSION TO AND IMPORTANT SAFETY SYSTEM. IF THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE HARM TO OTHERS I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE WORD OUT. I REGULARLY RESPOND TO ACCIDENTS AND VEHICLE EQUIPMENT FAILURES AS FIREFIGHTER/MEDIC.
