ON 8-25-03 , I TOOK MY 2002 FORD EXCURSION IN TO BERRYVILLE FORD IN BERRYVILLE ARKANSAS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP IN A REASONABLE DISTANCE. IF YOU ARE GOING DOWNHILL AND YOU HAVE TO BRAKE SUDDENLY AND HARD THE BRAKES GET HOT AND YOU LOSE THEM ALLTOGETHER.THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 27,774 MILES. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP THREE DIFFERENT TIMES AND THET R&R THE BRAKE BOOSTER THEY R&R THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT . THE BRAKE SHOES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN RESURFACED AND THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP . IF YOU BRAKE MORE THAN THREE TIOMES THE BRAKES WILL OVERHEAT AND THEN YOU CANNOT STOP AT ALL. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT IS CURRENTLY SITTING IN THE YARD AT THE BERRYVILLE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT GET AUTHORIZATION FROM FORD TO CHANGE THE ROTORS . THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT BERRYVILLE FORD AND I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE DEALERSHIP MANAGER OFF THE RECORD TO TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. THEY DON"T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. THE ENGINE IS A V-10 AT 20MPH YOU MAY GET IT STOPPED BUT IF YOU HAVE A PANIC STOP IT WILL NOT STOP.
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER SUDDENLY HEARD A STRANGE NOISE FROM THE LEFT REAR TIRE. *AK AAA CAME AND CHANGED THE TIRE. *JB
IN JUNE OF 2003, A 2002 FORD EXCURSION LIMO SUFFERED A FIRE LOSS UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNNING OR POWER SWITCHES ON. IT HAD NOT BEEN USED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. WHILE AN EMPLOYEE WAS IN THE PASSENGER AREA CLEANING THE LIMO, HE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE FIRE ORIGINATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. DAMAGE TO WIRING AND OTHER COMBUSTIBLES WAS EXTENSIVE. NO CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DETERMINED. AFTER HEARING OF THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH RECALL, I BELIEVE THE CASUSE OF THIS FIRE COULD HAVE BEEN THE SWITCH MALFUNCTION. I KNOW THE EXCUSIONS HAVE NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, HOWEVER, SINCE THEY HAVE THE SAME SWITCH AND OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE CAUSE WAS A SWITCH FAILURE. I HAVE ALSO HEARD OF ANOTHER EXCURSION IN OUR AREA HAVING A FIRE LOSS WITH SIMILIAR CONDITIONS. *NM
FREEWAY DRIVING AT 65 MPH WHEN NO APPARENT REASON REAR LEFT TIRE BLOWOUT. FURTHER INVESTAGATION FOUND THE TIRE HAD SIDEWALL PEELED AWAY AND THE TREAD WAS WRAPPED AROUND THE AXLE. NOT BEFORE DOING DAMAGE TO REAR QUARTER PANEL AND PARKING BRAKE CABLE. FULL TREAD SEPARATION.*AK
WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE A SURGE OF POWER TOOK OVER AND THE VEHICLE SMASHED INTO A POLE. *JB
AT 5 MPH NOTICED THAT THE BACK END OF 2002 EXCURSION WAS WOOBLING. FOUND THE TIRE HAD BALLOONED ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALL AND TREAD. FORD REPLACED WITH SAME MODEL TIRE. *TT
WHILE DRIVING THE FRONT TIRES SIDEWALL SEPARATED (SIZE#2657516) PLEASE PROVIDE THE DOT#. *NLM
AT 50,000 MILES, ABOUT ONE YEAR AGOTHERE WAS A LOAD SCREECHING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF MY VEHICLE AND THE STEERING BEGAN TO FAIL AND THE CAR BEGAN TO WEAVE. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON HIGHWAY 93 30 MILES NORTH OF WICKENBURG, AZ. BY THE TIME I GOT MY CAR STOPPED THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WAS SMOKING AND EXTREMELY HOT. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO SANDERSON FORD AND HAD TO REPLACE THE AXLE SPINDLE, WHEEL BEARING, HUB AND WHEEL. FORD TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL. I HAVE MY VEHICLE AGAIN AT SANDERSON FORD IN GLENDALE, AZ WITH A FRONT END NOISE AND I FIND THAT THE SAME PROBLEM IS NOW ON THE RIGHT WHEEL AND EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A BAD BEARING AND SCORED SPINDLE. CONCIDENTALLY ONE OF MY CUSTOMERS CAME IN WHO HAS A 2002 FORD F-350 AND WHEN I TOLD HIM ABOUT MY PROBLEM HE ADVISED THAT HE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON HIS VEHICLE. HIS NAME IS [XXX] AT [XXX], IF YOU WISH TO VERIFY THIS. THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT. *JB
I HAD A TIRE INSIDE WALL FAILURE WITH A FIRESTONE TIRE ON MY EXCURSION. THERE WAS ABOUT 22000 MILES ON THEM WHEN THE BLOWOUT OCCURRED. NO INURIES BUT IT HAPPENED AT FREEWAY SPEED AND I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL. REPORT WAS MADE A STATE TROOPER WHO CAME ON SCENE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED A CAR MADE A SUDDEN STOP IN FRONT OF NO MATTER HOW HARD I STEP ON THE BRAKES THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP.*AK
WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, THE ENGINE REVVED AND VEHICLE SURGED FOWARD INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, AND THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED. *JB THE IDLE AIR CONTROL AND HEADLINER WAS REPLACED. *SCC
2002 FORD EXCURSION. TWO INSTANCE OF THE VEHICLE NOT RESPONDING TO PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AT LOW SPEED. VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ROLL WITH VERY LITTLE STOPPING ACTION. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE NOTHING WAS FOUND. *NLM
VEHICLE STOPPED AT INTERSECTION WITH ENGINE IDLING NORMALLY. ACCELERATOR DEPRESSED BUT ENGINE DID NOT INCREASE SPEED. VEHICLE MOVED INTO INTERSECTION AT IDLE BEFORE BRAKES COULD BE APPLIED. NO ACCIDENT RESULTED DEALER REPLACED PEDAL ASSEMBLY UNDER WARRANTY. DT
CONSUMER STATES THE PASSENGER WINDSHIELD BROKE TWICE. WITH OUT ANY REASON. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.. TS
THE VEHICLE HAS A FRONT SUSPENSION PROBLEM WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO VIBRATE, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST, BOTH DRIVER SIDE DOORS ARE MISALIGNED WITH RESPECT TO THE FENDER TRIM, THE DIFFERENTIAL WAS ORIGINALLY MISALIGNED WITH RESPECT TO THE REAR FENDER TRIMS, NOW THE DIFFERENTIAL IS PROPERLY ALIGNED AND THE CONSUMER QUESTIONED THE TECHNICIANS WHO STATED THAT THEY DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THE MISALIGNMENT, THE CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY PROBLEM IF THE DIFFERENTIAL GOES IN AND OUT OF ALIGNMENT ON IS OWN, THE A/C WAS NOT COOLING AND NEEDED TO BE RECHARGED, THE CONSUMER CAN HEAR STATIC IN RADIO WHEN TURNING ON THE REAR TV SWITCH, A/C AND TURN SIGNAL, STEERING GEAR AND HYDRO BOOST LINE REPLACED, TIRE OUT OF BALANCED CAUSING VIBRATION AT 75-70 MPH, STEERING OUT OF ADJUSTMENT (OFF CENTER), CALIPERS REPLACED, TRANSMISSION EXPERIENCING A DELAY WHEN SHIFTING, BOTH WIPER BLADES OFF CENTER, DRAIN PLUG LEAKING OIL, WEATHER STRIPPING ON RIGHT REAR DOOR FAILED, HEADLINER IS COMING LOOSE ON THE LEFT SIDE, WINDSHIELD WASHERS INOPERATIVE, FUEL GAUGE READ INCORRECTLY, FAULTY ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP. FRONT CRASH AT 55 MPH, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. NO INJURIES, DAMAGE TO VEHICLE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.*AK CONSUMER STATED THAT ONE PERSON FROM THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS INJURED. *YH
WHEN APPLYING ACCELERATOR PEDAL IT WILL GO TO THE FLOOR INTERMITTENTLY, ENGINE WILL NOT REVV, AND VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD. VEHICLE WAS REARENDED AFTER CONSUMER WAS AT A STOP. THEN, STARTED TO ACCELERATE, AND VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. DAMAGE TO VEHICLE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.*AK THERE WERE 6 INJURIES IN ACCIDENT. *JG
VEHICLE WAS BACKED INTO DRIVEWAY, PARKED WITH ENGINE OFF. DRIVER INTENDED TO RELOCATE VEHICLE ABOUT 6 FEET FORWARD, NEVER ENTER STREET. DRIVER STARTED ENGINE, AND WITH RIGHT FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL PLACED TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE. DRIVER RELEASED BRAKE PEDAL AND ALLOWED VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD TO INTENDED PARKING SPOT WHERE HE APPLIED THE BRAKES WITH THE RIGHT FOOT. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP, DRIVER PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT STOP, ROLLED INTO THE STREET AND STRUCK A PASSING VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER, BUT DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. FORD CONSUMER APPEALS BOARD WAS CONTACTED, BUT AGREED WITH THE DEALER. VEHICLE OWNER CONTACTED A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE MOST LIKELY FAILURE THAT COULD CAUSE THE SYMPTOMS EXPERIENCED WAS THE POWER BOOSTER UNIT. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO INSURANCE COMPANY LOT WHERE IT WILL BE EXAMINED FOR POSSIBLE SUBROGATION WITH THE MANUFACTURER. OWNER HAS PICTURES OF THE DRIVEWAY AND SIDEWALK SHOWING TIRE MARKS LEADING RIGHT TO THE CRASH SITE.*AK
2002 FORD EXCURSION, LIMITED. ENGINE STALLS WHEN COMING TO STOP AT TRAFFIC SIGNS, SIGNALS. WILL RESTART IN PARK BUT DIE IMMEDIATELY UPON BEING PUT BACK IN GEAR. HAS BEEN TO AUTHORIZED FORD SERVICE DEALERSHIP, NOW 5 TIMES, MULTIPLE TESTING WITH FLIGHT RECORDERS, MULTIPLE PART REPLACEMENTS, STILL NO APPROPRIATE RESOLVE. CURRENTLY BACK AT DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER PROBABLE EXCUSE, WITHOUT DEFINITIVE CORRECTION.
TRUCK DIES WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN OR APPLY BRAKES. THEN WILL NOT REMAIN RUNNING WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE, IT WILL DIE IMMEDIATELY WHEN TAKEN OUT OF PARK. HAVE TO START CAR IN N GEAR, BRING ENGINE SPEED OVER 1500 RPM'S THEN POP IT INTO DRIVE FOR TRUCK TO REMAIN RUNNING. HAS NOW HAPPENED FOUR TIMES.*AK
WHILE APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. CONSUMER WILL SHIFT VEHICLE IN PARK TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. DEALERSHIP SHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH AND ROLLING OVER BUMPS/POT HOLES, AND ROUGH SURFACES, IT CAUSES VEHICLE TO VIRATE SEVERELY AND LOSE STEERING CONTROL. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH CONSUMER ACTIVATED BOTH REAR WINDOWS, AS SOON AS THE WINDOWS WERE LOWERED, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL VEHICLE, WHEN THE WINDOWS WERE CLOSED THE SHAKING STOPPED.*AK. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT ALL THE EXCURSIONS ARE THAT WAY.*JB
WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND VEHICLE HAS STOPPED, DRIVER IS UNABLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL, CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS NORMAL.*AK. CONSUMER STATED IT IS VERY HARD TO TURN WHEEL, IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING IS BINDING, WHEEL CAN NOT BE TURNED MORE THAN 1/4 TURN RIGHT OR LEFT WHEN BRAKE IS ON AND VEHICLE IS STOPPED. *JB
A CHILD WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE SEAT BELT LATCH PLATE FROM BUCKLE MECHANISM. THE BUCKLE RETRACTED TOO QUICKLY TO BE GRABBED BY OWNER OF VEHICLE, AND BECAME LOST/STUCK IN THE RETRACTOR, AND WAS HIDDEN. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING, THE OWNER HAS NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT AIMED CORRECTLY. WHEN APPROACHING ONCOMING TRAFFIC THE HEADLIGHTS BLIND DRIVERS. THE DEALERSHIPS HAS SERVICE THE VEHICLE THREE TIMES WITH NO CHANGE IN CONDITION.*AK
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL AND SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. THE SUSPENSION PROBLEM CAUSED THE TIRES TO WEAR PREMATURELY. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ALSO WHEN BRAKING, THE VEHICLE WENT TO THE RIGHT. *AK *JB
