ENGINE SPUTTERED WHILE AT A STOP, CONSUMER APPLIED MORE GAS TO KEEP VEHICLE RUNNING. ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK AND VEHICLE TOOK OFF. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN VEHICLE, IT HIT A GOUP OF TREES.(SPEED UNKNOWN) CONSUMER SUFFERED INJURIES TO HER BACK. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. TS
CONSUMER WAS PULLING OFF FROM A STOP AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY TOOK OFF LIKE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS PRESSING ON GAS PEDAL. THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION RESULTED IN A CRASH, AND VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *PH...*AK
SIDE-VIEW MIRRORS ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE HAVE BECOME VERY DULLED RESULTING IN LOSS OF COMPLETE EFFECTIVENESS OF VIEWING. IT APPEARS THAT SOMETHING HAS CAUSED THE SILVER IN THE MIRRORS TO DISINTEGRATE. THIS IS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND THE LOCAL DEALER AND NEITHER WOULD OFFER TO REMEDY AT THEIR EXPENSE SINCE THE WARRANTY PERIOD HAD EXPIRED.

FRONT DRIVE AXLE POPS AND VEHICLE SHAKES WHEN TURNING . ALSO POPS AND SHAKES WHEN ACCELERATING/DECELERATING. POSSIBLY DUE TO DEFECTIVE SPIDER GEAR(S).
WHILE DRIVING APPROX 70MPH W/CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE ENGINE'S HEAD GASKET "BLEW" CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. TS
EXTERIOR MIRRORS ARE DETERIATING. DEAL WOULD NOT REPLACE.
NAR 3-11-03 THE CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH HIS FORD EXPEDITION, THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS HAVE TURNED BACK FROM THE INSIDE, THE TOP OF THE SHIFT HANDLE BROKE OFF, AND ALL THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED BEFORE A FIRESTONE RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS SINCE IT'S WAS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND NOT A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM. *CB *JB

CONSUMER STATES WHILE CAR IN PARK AND KEYS OUT OF IGNITION A 4 YEAR OLD CHILD WAS ABLE TO PULL THE SHIFTER DOWN TO LOW GEAR CAUSING THE TRUCK TO ROLL BACK. NLM

FIRE HAZARD! MANUFACTURERS DEFECT CAUSES HEAD GASKET FAILURE RESULTING IN SEVERE PRESSURIZED OIL LEAK ONTO HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD, CREATING A DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD. *JB
VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTSIDE THE HOME OF THE DRIVER. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS. CONSUMER CAME HOME, AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. SHORTLY THERE AFTER THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED. VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY SHOWED NO INTEREST. *AK
I WAS SLOWLY BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE BEHIND THE OFFICE BUILDING THAT I WORK AT GOING APPROXIMATELY 4 TO 5 MPH (JUST CRAWLING). I HAVE BEEN BACKING INTO THE SAME AREA FOR OVER 15 YEARS. AS I LIGHTLY STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL, VEHICLE LURCHED BACKWARDS HITTING THE BUILDING SQUARELY CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AS IT WAS A POWERFUL HIT. THIS HAD HAPPENED TWO OTHER TIMES WHEN THE CAR WAS DRIVEN BY MY HUSBAND AND PARENTS. THOSE TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS HAD OCCURRED IN OTHER AREAS WHERE THERE WAS AMPLE ROOM TO REACT.
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN 1999 NEW, ALL ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED ON TIME AND ON SCHEDULE, VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH A FACOTRY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO PROVIDE DRIVETRAIN COVERAGE TO 100,000 MILES. ENGINE FAILURE AT 103,000. WARRANTY EXPIRED, MANUFATURE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPORTED SO SORRY. BUY NEW ENGINE. MR
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON 9/8/2002. I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS COMING ON WHILE RIDING DOWN THE ROAD, AND ALSO WHEN I TURN ON THE TURN SIGNALS. IT IS VERY EMBARRASING WHEN OTHER PEOPLE ARE LOOKING AT THIS HAPPENING TO A DRY WINDSHIELD. I HAD IT IN THE SHOP ON 9/13/2002 AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE MACHINE DID NOT DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM AND TO KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL THE WIPER COMPLETELY STOP>AK
I HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY AIR CONDITIONER NOT WORKING AND THEN IT STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR. A COUPLE DAYS LATER MY RPM MONITOR STOPPED ALONG WITH MY ELECTRIC COOLING FAN, SO NOW MY CAR OVER HEATS AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DOESN'T EVEN LET US KNOW THAT THE CAR IS OVER HEATED. WE ALSO PUT 2 CONSTANT CONTROL RELAY MODULES IN THIS VEHICLE AND ARE SKEPTICAL OF A 3RD ONE. MY CAR ONLY HAS 77,000 MILES ON IT AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED AFTER 75,000 AND WHEN I CONTACTED FORD THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP ME? AFTER READING A LOCAL NEWSPAPER AND READING ARTICLES THROUGH THE WEBSITE REGARDING THE RECALL OF CERTAIN TIRES DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE TIRES ON HIS 99' FORD EXPEDITION (GRABBER AW P255 70 R16). THE COSUMER HAD SIMILAR TREAD SEPARATION PROBLEMS THAT EXISTED WITH THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE.*SCC *CB *JB
FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS SELF ACTIVATES. OCCURENCE IS MORE COMMON WHEN TURNING CORNERS. MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH USING TURN SIGNAL. IF I RECALL CORRECTLY, DURING EARLY MONTH OF OWNERSHIP, FORD NOTIFIED ME OF SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AND HAD THIS AND THE TRAILER HITCH RECALL TAKEN CARE OF. FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME MY VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A DEFECTIVE PART (FOR THE REAR WIPER SWITCH) AND THEREFORE DID NOT CHANGE OUT. MR
SHIFT CABLE BROKE IN HALF, CAUSING VEHICLE NOT TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO REVERSE.*AK*JB
I WAS RETURNING FROM KANSAS CITY, MO. TO WOODBRIDGE, VA., TRAVELING ON I-70E AT THE 51 MM IN INDIANA. MY VEHICLE WAS SET ON CRUISE JUST UNDER 70 MPH. (69 MPH APPROX.) SUDDENLY I FELT A VIBRATION AND SOUND THAT RESEMBLED DRIVING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS! THERE ALSO WAS IMMEDIATE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING, THOUGH NO LOSS OF CONTROL. I WAS DRIVING IN THE SLOW LANE (#2), SO I GENTLY APPLIED BRAKES AND MOVED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED. MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD COMPLETELY COME APART. THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE CASING, AND THE SIDEWALL WAS CHEWED UP, EXPOSING THE WHITE PLYS UNDERNEATH! WHEN THE TIRE WAS REMOVED AND INSPECTED AT THE GARAGE THAT TOWED ME, A TEAR, THAT WENT FROM THE RIM STRAIGHT OUT TO WHERE THE CASING MEETS THE TREAD WAS FOUND. THERE WERE NO FOREIGN OBJECTS OR BUBBLES IN THE TIRE, NOR HAD I RUN OVER ANYTHING, AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE RIM. THE TIRE HAD ABOUT 90% TREAD ON IT .THIS VEHICLE HAD JUST RECEIVED A MAINTENANCE CHECK AND SERVICING AT A FORD DEALERSHIP IN PITTSBURGH, PENNA. ON 10AUG02. THIS WAS A "MULTI POINT INSP."(INCLUDING TIRE ROTATION) I WAS TOLD THAT "ALL TIRES, BRAKES, ETC. WERE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, REQUIRING NO MAINTENENCE BEYOND FLUID AND FILTER CHANGES THAT WERE BEING DONE AT THAT TIME. BASICALLY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE TIRE TO THROW THE TREAD, (SEPARATE). I DO KNOW THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY THE MANUFACTURER'S DEALERSHIP, AND BASED ON THE INFORMATION THAT I HAVE SUPPLIED, AND THE RECENT PROBLEMS WITH FIRESTONE, AND NOW CONTINENETAL TIRES, MY WIFE, WHO WAS WITH ME, AS WELL AS MYSELF ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT OUR SAFETY WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AS WE OFTEN MAKE OUT OF STATE TRIPS. AGAIN, I AM NOT HAVING TO INSTALL ANOTHER TORQUE CONVERTER TOMORROW. MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT TO YOU WAS FOR THE FIRST TORQUE CONVERTER INSTALLED WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT HAS ALL THE NECESSARY INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS CAR. INTERIOR LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONING, DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM NOT WORKING PROPERLY; STAYS ON EVEN WHEN KEY IS NOT IN IGNITION. WHEN IGNITION IS TURNED ON OR OFF, THE WOOFER MAKES A LOUD THUMPING SOUND. WOOFER INOPERABLE. RIGHT SIGN WING NEVER WORKED PROPERLY/ WILL NOT OPEN OR CLOSE. DEALERSHIPS SERVICE REPAIR PERSONAL NEGLECT AND REFUSE TO FIND THE CAUSES, EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *NLM
BRAKE ROTORS WARPING ON INSIDE OF VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
TRAVELING APPROX. 25 MILES PER HOUR, VEHICLE STEERING FAILED DUE TO BROKEN TIE ROD ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND BROKEN STABILIZER BAR ON DRIVER SIDE. VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT DEALERS TWICE IN PREVIOUS WEEK FOR ALL 4 TIRES TO BE BALANCED AND FOR STEERING VIBRATION. *AK
THE ENGINE STARTS NORMALLY AFTER THE KEY IS TURNED BUT DIES WHEN I SHIFT INTO GEAR. AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE, THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED DIAGNOSTICS. THE TESTS DID NOT SHOW ANY ABNORMALITIES. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE FAULTY PART THEREFORE COULD NOT REPLACE ANYTHING. THEY SAID IT COULD JUST BE A FLUKE AND MIGHT NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS WAS WHILE THE TRUCK WAS UNDER MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. THE SECOND FAILURE OCCURED TWO DAYS AGO, APPROX. 6 MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT. I WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED ON MY OWN AND DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER. AGAIN, THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAULTY PARTS. THE VEHICLE IS NOW OUT OF MANUFACTURER WARRENTY BUT IS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT JUST START REPLACING PARTS WITHOUT A CLEAR CUT DIAGNOSTIC BECASUE THE INSURER WOULD NOT PAY. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANY DISTANCE FROM MY HOME OR OFFICE IN CASE THE DEFECT STALLS THE CAR AGAIN OR MANIFESTS ITSELF IN SOME OTHER, MORE DESTRUCTIVE WAY. I CANCELLED MY TRIP FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY AND AM WAITING ON A DEALER CALL BACK. I AM ASSUMING THIS IS A GLITCH IN A COMPUTER CHIP OR SOMETHING RELATIVELY MINOR, BUT DIFFICULT TO FIND. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM IS A MAJOR ONE IN MY LIFE AS I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS BEEN RESPONSIVE AND IS RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM. I DO NOT KNOW IF THEY HAVE ACCESS TO A DATA BASE OF OTHER EXPEDITION/F110 OWNERS WHO MAY HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, SO I AM TRYING TO DISTRIBUTE MY INFORMATION TO A CENTRAL ORGANIZATION THAT MIGHT BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE A PATTERN OF FAILURE AND IDENTIFY IT'S CAUSE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED PER THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.*AK
"SWAY BAR BOLTS" THAT CONNECT WHEEL TO FRAME ARE MISSING ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT WHEELS. CONSUMER HEARD NOISE WITH TIRES AND INSPECTED VEHICLE.*AK
BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER MIRRORS HAVE REFLECTIVE COATING PEALING OFF THE MIRRORS CAUSING SOME DISTORTION IN THE MIRROR WHEN SUNLIGHT REFLECT IN MIRRORS. MANUFACTURE CONTACTED AND REFFERED BACK TO REGIONAL WARRANTY SERVICE. CAR MILAGE BEYOND WARRANTY WOULD ONLY COVER PORTION OF REPLACEMENT COST. REJECT OFFER FROM REGIONAL. MY OPINION A SAFTEY ITEM DUE TO MANUFACTURING FLAW SHOULD BE CHARGED TO MANUFACTURE. REJECTION OF THIS DEAL MAY CAUSE THE FULL COST TO BE TO ME.*AK

THE CONSUMER WOULD HEAR A POPPING/RUMBLING NOISE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS REVERSED OR IF THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM, THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO HEAR A NOISE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT TIRES WERE RAPIDLY WEARING DOWN. THE CONSUMER HAD GONE TO SEVERAL FORD DEALERS AND RECEIVED DIFFERENT CONFLICTING DIAGNOSES FROM THE SEVERAL SERVICE AREAS OF DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS, CONSUMER FEELS THERE IS A POSSIBLE DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE, ALSO THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR, DEALER REPLACED THE CLUTCHES IN THE REAR, THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE WHEN BACKING UP AND MAKING A TURN, DEALER LUBED THE STEERING, CONSUMER WAS ALOS INFORMED THAT LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE NEEDED.*SCC *CB

I DROVE INTO THE DRIVEWAY, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND REMOVED THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION. MY 2 YEAR OLD CHILD CLIMBED INTO THE FRONT SEAT AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. THE CAR ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY AND HIT A VAN AT THE BOTTOM. I JUMPED IN AS THE CAR WAS ROLLING BUT COULD NOT STOP THE CAR IN TIME. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A BRAKE SHIFT INTERLOCK IN WHICH YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE ABLE TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION FROM PARK WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AND HAVING THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND NEITHER HAPPENED. A FATALITY COULD HAVE OCCURED AS CHILDREN WERE PLAYING OUTSIDE AS WELL AS I COULD HAVE BEEN SMASHED AS I JUMPED IN JUST BEFORE MY DOOR WAS TORN OFF. CRANK MECHANISM WHICH JACK HANDLE ATTACHES TO AND IS USED TO RAISE/LOWER SPARE TIRE FROM ITS POSITION UNDER THE VEHICLE, IS SUPPOSED TO (ACCORDING TO OWNER'S MANUAL) "RATCHET" WHEN TIRE IS SNUGGED AGAINST UNDERCARRIAGE, AND "IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OVERTIGHTEN." SUSPECT RATCHETING MECHANISM NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, ALLOWING EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO BE APPLIED TO CABLE, PRECIPITATING FAILURE---OR CABLE IS SUB-STANDARD. NO SIGNS OF RUST/CORRISION.IRE AND RIM. DEALER HAD REPLACED SPARE TIRE 10/2001 DURING TIRE RECALL/REPLACEMENT, OTHERWISE, THE MECHANISH HAD NEVER BEEN USED. OF GREAT IMPORTANCE: THERE IS NO REDUNDANCY IN SYSTEM; IT IS A SINGLE-POINT FAILURE. IF CABLE FAILS, TIRE COULD FALL DIRECTLY ONTO ROADWAY INTO ON-COMING TRAFFIC, OR CAUSE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL IF IT WEDGES UNDER VEHICLE AND ROADWAY. *AK

IT IS SHAMEFUL THAT A HIGH DOLLAR VEHICLE LIKE THE EXPEDITION HAS BECOME A HIGH MAINTENANCE LIABILITY. WE HAVE REPAIRED THIS GASKET VALVE COVER THREE TIMES AT $1800.00 EACH. IT IS EMBARRASSING TO DRIVE SUCH A NICE VEHICLE THAT IS POLLUTING THE AIR WITH OIL SMELLS AND SMOKE. THE VEHICLES ARE SLUGGISH AND IT WILL NOT BE LONG BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. I PRAY DAILY THAT IT IS NOT ME, MY CHILDREN AND FOSTER CHILDREN THAT I TRANSPORT FOR MY JOB. MY LOCAL COUNTY GOVERNMENT HAS PURCHASED A FLEET OF EXPEDITIONS AND EACH ONE HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT LEAST ONCE. COME ON FORD STEP UP TO THE PLATE. A OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE. MY GRANDFATHER HATED FORD PRODUCTS AND STATED THAT FORD MEANT FOUND ON ROAD DEAD. UNFORTUNATELY NOW THE CUSTOMERS ARE THE ONES THAT ARE FOUND ON ROAD DEAD BECAUSE OF FAULTY EQUIPMENT AND THE LACK OF REGARD FOR THE COMMON CITIZEN. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR MY CAR TO BURST INTO FLAMES AND MY KIDS ARE SCARED THAT I CAN'T GET THEM OUT OF THE THIRD ROW SEATBELTS BEFORE THEY PARISH IN A BURNING VEHICLE. I AM A SOCIAL WORKER WITH A DEMANDING SCHEDULE AND A MODEST SALARY AND I CAN'T AFFORD THE REPAIRS. SINCE ABOUT 2002 THE REFLECTIVE MATERIAL ON BOTH REAR VIEW MIRRORS HAS ALOT OF CRACKING. UNABLE TO VIEW CLEARLY. THIS TO ME IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. COST FROM FOR FORD TO REPLACE WAS $500.00 EACH SIDE. *NM
