PE0 20; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 65MPH ON HIGHWAY AND HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SHOULDERS/ GOT OUT OF CAR, AND LOOKED AT THE TIRES. NOTICED THAT FRONT TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT. FIRESTONE, WILDERNESS AT. *AK
HAD SPARK PLUG COIL GO OUT ON #4 CYLINDER, SHAKES AT HIGHER SPEEDS TIRES WEAR UNEVENLY BURNING OIL SMELL AFTER YOU DRIVE IT HAD IT TO DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES AND THEY "COULDNT LOCATE A LEAK " ( MAYBE THERE TECHS SHOULD READ THESE TSB'S?) FINALLY RECONIZED AS BAD HEAD AND GASKET REPLACED STILL WAS LEAKING THEN I TOLD I NEEDED A TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT! NOW ITS OUTTA WARRENTY AND MY PROBLEM ACCORDING TO FORD DEALERSHIP. EVEN THOUGH HAD IT IN FOR BURNING OIL SMELL WHEN UNDER 36,000 (DOT NUMBER: NA TIRESIZE: 275R16)
1999 FORD EXPEDITION. BOTH EXTERIOR MIRRORS (WITH INTEGRATED RED TURN SIGNAL CHEVRON) DELAMINATED LOST REFLECTIVE COATING ON BACK OF MIRROR. HAVE CONTACTED FORD DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS, AND CONTACTED FORD CONSUMER SERVICES. FORD ACKNOWLEDGES SEVERAL SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE ISSUE BUT WOULD NOT TELL ME WHAT IT CONTAINED. THE VEHICLE HAD 55,000 MILES AND NOW HAS 65,000 MILES. QUOTED $169 PER MIRROR TO REPLACE MIRROR GLASS OR $400 PER MIRROR FOR COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THE MIRROR WAS MANUFACTURED BY MUTH AND I CONTACTED THEM. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND HAD A UPGRADE KIT TO PROVIDE NEW MIRRORS GLASS FOR $216 DELIVERED TO MY DOOR. I PAID A BODY SHOP $65 FOR REPAIRS. I AM HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE LIKE SEAT BELTS, AIR BAGS, ETC. I WILL SHIP THE OLD MIRRORS TO YOU AT MY EXPENSE FOR YOUR INVESTIGATION. *JB
DURING CHRISTMAS WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN, WE NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK FELT SLUGGISH AND NON-REPONSIVE TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. AT WHICH TIME IT WAS NOTICED ON THE DRIVEWAY THAT A OIL LEAK HAD BEGUN. WE TOOK THE EXPEDITION INTO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A SERVICE EVALUATION. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE HEAD GASKET HAD BEEN BLOWN. WE DECIDED TO GET A SECOND OPINION BY A RESPECTED INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO GAVE US THE SAME PROGNOSIS. WE AGAIN CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THE COST OF THE REPAIR COULD BE NEGOTIATED LOWER THAN THE $1,850. ESTIMATE. A FORD MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT A SPECIAL PLAN MIGHT BE AVAILABLE, BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE. THAT REQUEST WAS REJECTED. IN TRYING TO TALK WITH A FORD FACTORY SERVICE MANAGER, HE WOULDN'T TALK WITH ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM NOR DID WE RECEIVE ANY ADDITIONAL HELP. IN PURCHASING A USED VEHICLE, I REALIZE THERE IS A RISK OF FAILURE, BUT 7 MONTHS & 14,000 MILES LATER, TO PAYOUT CLOSE TO $2,000!, THAT'S TOO EXTREME. A HEAD GASKET SHOULD NOT FAIL THIS SOON INTO A VEHICLE'S LIFE. I'VE NOTICED THAT FORD'S HAVE HAD A RECENT HISTORY OF HEAD GASKET PROBLEMS AND WE WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE "RECALLED" AND TO BE REINBURSED FOR THIS EXPENSE. THANK YOU. *AK
CAR STALLS WITHIN 2 MINUTES ON A NOSE DOWN INCLINE WITH 1/3 OF TANK OF FUEL AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO RESTART. IT IS AS IF IT RUNS OUT OF FUEL.

ENGINE HEAD GASKET LEAKS OIL BADLY. THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO DEALER TWICE FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE HEAD GASKET AND IT NEEDS REPLACEMENT AGAIN.*AK
STABILIZER LINKS MISSING BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE. DO NOT KNOW WHEN THEY BECAME MISSING. *AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 45MPH ON HIGHWAY AND HEARD A THUMPING NOISE. HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDERS, AND NOTICED THAT RIGHT REAR INNER TIRE SEPARATED. FIRESTONE, WILDERNESS AT, 25575R15. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE WAITING IN A FAST FOOD LANE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND RAN INTO REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. BRAKES WERE APPLIED WHEN THIS OCURRED, BUT THEY DIDN'T FUNCTION. MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS MATTER. *AK
THE RIGHT SIDE HEAD GASKET IS LEAKING OIL. MY DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAVE HAD MANY OF THESE FAILURES FOR THIS MODEL. WITH ONLY 27000 MILES ON AN EXPENSIVE VEHICLE LIKE THIS, IT SHOULDN'T BE LEAKING OIL ALL OVER MY GARAGE FLOOR. THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED 3 WEEKS AGO AND THE DEALER AS WELL AS FORD MOTOR COMPANY SAID I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. I AM OUTRAGED AND WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO ORDER A RECALL. WHILE DRIVING IT WAS "VERY BUMPY" DURING NORMAL OPERATION. CONSUMER EXAMINED VEHICLE, AND SAW THAT REAR SUSPENSION WAS ALLOWING REAR OF VEHICLE TO REST ON REAR WHEELS. DEALERSHIP INSPECTED VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT AIR COMPRESSOR MOTOR AND RELAY HAD TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / ATTACHMENTS.*AK

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING OUR 1999 EXPEDITION AT 40MPH NEAR MY HOME (RAMONA, CA),LEFT FRONT IDLER ARM SNAPPED CAUSING VIOLENT FRONT END SHAKING, VEHICLE WAS OUT OF CONTROL. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON A FREEWAY OR ANY HIGHER RATE OF SPEED MY HUSBAND AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE TO BE ALIVE. WE WERE ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE ROAD WE WERE TRAVELING HAD NO TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. THE ROAD WAS A RURAL BACK COUNTRY ROAD (VISTA RAMONA, NEAR HWY. 67.) RAMONA, CA. *AK
PASSENGER SIDE HEAD GASKET IS LEAKING OIL. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE 5.4L EMGINE. FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WITH 60OO MILES. I DO NOT EXPECTED TO HAVE THIS KIND OF FAILURE. *AK
STARTED MAKING VIBRATION SOUNDS( THOUGHT WAS ROAD NOISE). VIBRATION BECAME LOUDER AND I TOOK IT TO TRUSTED MECHANIC AT AAMCO WHO TOLD ME THAT THE FORD CAR I BOUGHT HAD PROBLEMS WITH THAT PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION AND THAT AN EXPENSIVE FLUID CALLED MERCHRON 5(VERY EXPENSIVE FLUID) WAS TO BE PUT INTO THEM. THIS DIDNOT WORK AS MY TORQUE CONVERTOR NEEDED REPLACING. THE GENTLEMAN AT AAMCO CALLED AN OUT OF AREA FORD DEALER AND TOLD THEM THAT THE MILEAGE WAS TOO LOW AND THE CAR TO EXPENSIVE FOR THESE KIND OF TROUBLES. THIS DEALER REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTOR UNDER WARRANTY, BUT IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. AS YOU CAN SEE, THE MILEAGE AT WHICH IT WAS FIRST REPAIRED (37000) UNTIL NOW(48000), ONLY MEANS THAT I WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM EVERY 10 OR 11K MILES. THIS WAS MY FIRST MAJOR PROBLEM BUT IN THE PAST, THIS CAR HAS SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY, NOT REGISTERED ANY OIL AND BECAUSE IT IS A SOUTHERN COMFORT LIMITED EDITION MODEL IT HAS A TV-VCR COMBO THAT WORKED FOR A FEW MONTHS AND IT WENT OUT. I HAVE YET TO FIND A REPAIR PERSON FOR THIS PROBLEM. FORD KNEW OF THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND TRIED TO COVER IT UP. I DO NOT WISH TO CONTINUE TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES TO FIND AN HONEST FORD REPAIR DEALERSHIP WHEN THIS CAR IS NOTHING BUT A LEMON. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND ANY HELP YOU MIGHT GIVE ME. THE OXYGEN SENOR SHORTED OUT CAUSING THE WIRING HARNESS TO BURN COMPLETLY THROUGH. THIS THEN CAUSED THE WIRING HARNESS BELOW THE OXYGEN SENOR WIRING TO ALSO BURN THROUGH WHICH THEN CAUSED THE COMPUTER TO THE ENGINE TO BE DAMAGED AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. IF WOULD SEEM THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD IF A WIRING HARNESS CAN COMPLETELY BURN THROUGH ITSELF. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SEVERE FIRE IN THE VEHICLE. DEALER AND MANUFACTUER STATE THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM AND AN ISOLATED INCIDENT.*AK

WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH REAR OF VEHICLE DROPPED. DEALER SAID REAR SUSPENSION/ AIRBAGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
NEEDLE IN OIL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE. IT KEPT GOING UP AND DOWN. OIL PUMP HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH THAT WAS INCLUDED IN A RECALL. *SLC
WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MPH AND PULLING A TRAILER DOWN HILL, AND WITHOUT ANY INDICATION, LEFT REAR WHEEL SEPARATED FROM VEHICLE. TIRE/ RIM AND DISC BRAKES WERE GONE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK THE LUG BLOTS SHEARED OFF CAUSING THE WHEEL TO SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE, ALL BOLTS SHEARED OFF AT BACKERPLATE. NLM
DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BECAUSE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE SHIFTS INTO LOW GEAR WHILE GOING OVER BUMPS. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
BOTH EXTERNAL REAR VIEW MIRRORS WITH BUILT-IN TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS HAVE LOST TEH REFLECTIVE SURFACE. IT SEEMS THAT TEH 'SILVERING' ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE MIRROR HAS PEELED OFF. NIGHT VISIBILITY IS NEAR ZERO. DAYTIME IS NOT MUCH BETTER. THE DEFECT HAS RESULTED IN A COUPLE NEAR MISSES WITH RESPECT TO AN ACCIDENT. FORD WILL NOT COVER UNDER (EXTENDED) WARRANTY. TURN SIGNAL/WIPER CONTROL STEM SHORTING OUT WITH ELECTRICAL ARC SOUNDS AS LONG AS STEM IS IN L/R POSITION. SAME ITEM OCCURRED IN SIMILAR VEHICLE OWNED BY SAME: 1997 FORD EXPEDITION, VIN#[XXX]. TOWING BOAT WITH THE EXPEDITION. BACK LEFT REAR WHEEL RAN OFF. CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASE EXPEDITION. WANTED NO PART OF WHAT I HAD TO SAY. THEY WERE CONTACTED THREE TIMES. NEXT CALLED FORD @ 1-800-392-3673. TOLD THEM I HAD BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL ON THE WHEELS/LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS. BUT I WAS INFORMED MY TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I ASKED WHY DID MY TRUCK HAVE ALL THE SYSTOMS OF THE RECALL. 1) WHEEL RAN OFF 2) NONE OF THE REMAINING 3 WHEELS WILL NOT TORQUE DOWN TIGHT. MY TRUCK IS ALSO STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT I WAS TOLD FORD WOULD NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM WITHOUT A FEE. I FEEL FORD IS AT FAULT, BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO HELP.*AK
A LOUD "KNUCKLING" SOUND IS OFTEN HEARD WHEN TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS. NOISE COMES FROM THE FRONT END AND SOUNDS SIMILAR TO WHAT ONE HEARS WHEN THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE IS ENGAGED AND DURING A SHARP TURN. THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE ONE IS DRIVING OVER SOFTBALL SIZED ROCKS. THERE ALSO IS AN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS. CAMPUS FORD OF OKEMOS, MI DIAGNOSED THIS AS A FAILURE OF THE CLUTCH ASSENBLY IN THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. THIS WAS REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I'M FEARFUL THAT SOMETHING COULD HAPPEN TO THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY.*AK
EXTERIOR MIRROR IS PEELING, CAUSING ALMOST ZERO VISIBILITY.*AK THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. THESE MIRRORS ARE HEATED WITH THE TURN SIGNALS EMBEDDED. *JG
LOOKED AT TIRE AT GAS STATION AND SAW STEEL BELTS WHERE TIRE WAS COMING LOOSE FROM ITSELF. FORD DEALER I TOOK VEHICLE INDICATED THEY WERE READY TO SEPARATE ,AND ALL 4 MUST BE REPLACED. NO TIRES FOUND FROM DEALER AND CALLED AND FOUND 4 TIRES AT RETAIL STORE. FROM BOTH REAR VIEW MIRRORS REFLECTION IS COMING OFF, LEAVING MIRRORS BLACK. UNABLE TO SEE OUT OFF THEM. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK
I HAVE A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION THAT HAS A FAULTY RIGHT SIDE CYLINDER HEAD. OIL LEAKS ONTO THE EXHAUST WHICH IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. THROUGH MY OWN RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM (OIL LEAK FROM THE RIGHT SIDE HEAD) WITH THIS VEHICLE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS THAT I HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM WITH THE CONSUMER BUT HAS SENT OUT TECHNICAL SUPPORT INFORMATION TO THEIR MECHANICS ON HOW TO FIX IT. TO ME THAT'S AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT THAT A PROBLEM EXISTS. IF MY VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THEY WOULD FIX IT (WHICH TO ME IS ANOTHER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO THIS PROBLEM) BUT SINCE IT'S NOT THEY WON'T BACK IT UP. REPAIRS WOULD COST ME APROX $ 2,000. THROUGH MY RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS EXISTED SINCE THESE VEHICLE WERE NEW, BACK IN 1999. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH APROX 40K MILES ON IT AND TODAY I HAVE APROX 75K MILES ON IT. I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED IT BUT ONLY RECENTLY DID I REALIZE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I HAD AN OIL CHANGE DONE BY AN EX FORD MECHANIC AND HE ADMITTED THAT THE EXPEDITION IS KNOWN FOR THIS OIL LEAK BUT FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TT
ON THE 5/21/01 ACCIDENT I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN OFF OF MY CUL A SAC ST AND JUST AS I TURNED THE WHEEL TO GO LEFT VEHICLE LOCKED UP TO THE RIGHT AND I COUND NOT GET IN TO UNLOCK WHICH CAUSED ME TO HIT A PARKED CAR, I BOUNCED OFF THE CAR 3 TIMES BEFORE MY TRUCK ROLLOED BACK AND STOPPED.THE POLICE OFFICER TRIED TO TURN THE WHEELS WITH THE TRUCK ON AND WAS UNABLE TO DO SO, ALL FLUIDS RELEASED FROM THE TRUCK. I WAS INJURED IN MY BACK/NECK/SPINE, AND BURN MARKS ON MY RT HAND FROM TRYING TO TURN THE WHEEL TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR. THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED WITHIN 15 FT.ON THE POLICE REPORT IT STATES THAT THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP BUT DUE TO NO WITNESSES HE CAN'T PROVE THIS. BODYSHOP SAID THE GEAR BOX AND ALL THE GEARS ARE DESTROYED AND BECAUSE OF IT LOCKING UP TO THE RIGHT WHEN I WAS MAKING A LEFT IT LOOKS LIKE THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP ALSO. FORD WILL NOT COMMENT ON MY SITUATION AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO DO TO PROTECT MYSELF IF THIS IS A DEFECT PROBLEM. ON THE TRANSMISSION, I TOOK IT TO FORD AND TOLD THEM MY TRUCK WAS SLIPPING AND HAVING PROBLEMS AND THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND FIXED SOME ENGINE PROBLEMS. I HAVE SO MANY THINGS GO WRONG ON THIS VEHICLE SINCE 1999 I'M AFRAID TO EVEN DRIVE IT ONCE IT IS FIXED. I"M NOT SURE IT IS SAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I EXPERIENCED A TIRE BLOW OUT (LEFT REAR) WILDERNESS AT (P255/70R16) ON A '99 EXPEDITION GOING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. THE OUTSIDE SIDEWALL CAME APART, COMPLETELY SEPARATING FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. THERE IS AN AREA ON THE TIRE THAT HAD CRACKS ON THE TREAD CLOSE TO THE MAIN PART OF THE TIRE. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY FORD DEALER IN GRAPEVINE FIRST BECAUSE THEY HAD JUST INSPECTED THE TIRES FOR ME APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AGO. THEY RECOMMENDED HIGHLY THAT I TAKE THE TIRE TO FIRESTONE, THAT THE ONLY THING THEY COULD DO FOR ME WAS TO SELL ME 5 NEW TIRES, COSTING MORE THAN $700 TOTAL. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO MY FIRESTONE DEALER WHERE AFTER I POINTED OUT TO MY TECHNICIAN THE DAMAGE, HE TRIED TO EXPAIN TO ME THAT A BLOW OUT IS "NORMAL" WHENEVER THERE IS DAMAGE TO A TIRE AND THAT THE TIRE HAD BEEN DRIVEN WITH LOW AIR PRESSURE WHICH IS WHY THE SIDEWALL WAS TORN UP. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT THE TIRES HAVE NEVER BEEN LOW ON PRESSURE, THAT I CHECK THEM MYSELF AT A MINIMUN OF 1 TIME PER WEEK AND NEVER DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL I HAVE CHECKED THEM, AND FORD CHECKS THEM APPROXIMATELY EVERY 3,000 MILES AND ROTATES THEM ACCORDING TO SPECS. HE WAS NOT INTERESTED. I ASKED IF MY OTHER 3 TIRES WERE SAFE IN HIS OPINION AND WITHOUT DOING MORE THAN A QUICK GLANCE SAID "THEY ARE AS SAFE AS ANY TIRE". I ASKED HIM AGAIN AND EXPLAINED THAT I HAVE A 5 YEAR OLD AND ALL I WANTED WAS TO ENSURE THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE, HE STATED THAT "I WOULD BE MORE UNCOMFORTABLE ABOUT DRIVING A FORD THAN I WOULD BE ABOUT YOUR TIRES". THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO ME AND I FEEL THAT ATTITUDES AND REACTIONS LIKE THIS TO AN OBVIOUSLY REALISTIC CONCERN IS CRIMINAL. I ALSO ASKED THEM TO RETURN THE DAMAGED TIRE TO ME, WHICH I HAD TO REMIND THEM TO DO. I HAVE A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 95,000 MILES. AT 31,000 IT HAD WARRANTY WORK PERFORMED TO REPAIR AN OIL LEAK BETWEEN THE CYLINDER HEAD AND THE BLOCK. THE WARRANTY WORK WAS PERFORMED PRIOR TO THE FIRST TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (011202) DATED 6/12/01. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS THE LEAK AGAIN IN THE SAME AREA. THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN HAS THIS AS THE ISSUE: SOME VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE ROMEO BUILT 4.6L 2V ENGINE OR 5.4L SUPERCHARGED ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT AN OIL LEAK OR OIL WEEPAGE FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET AT THE RIGHT HAND REAR OR THE LEFT HAND FRONT OF THE ENGINE. OIL WEEPAGE IS NOT CONSIDERED DETRIMENTAL TO ENGINE PERFORMANCE OR DURABILITY. AN OIL LEAK MAY BE CAUSED BY METAL CHIP DEBRIS LODGED BETWEEN THE HEAD GASKET AND THE BLOCK, CHIP DEBRIS BETWEEN THE CYLINDER HEAD AND THE HEAD GASKET, OR BY DAMAGE TO THE CYLINDER HEAD SEALING SURFACE THAT OCCURRED DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. EVERY MONTH I CHECK MY TIRE PRESSURE. IN CHECKING THE TIRE PRESSURE ON APRIL 6TH, I NOTICED THAT ON ALL FOUR TIRES, THERE WAS A SPLITTING/CRACK WHICH RAN ABOUT THREE-QUARTERS OF AN INCH FROM RIGHT TO LEFT RIGHT UNDER THE TREAD KNUCKLE WHERE THE KNUCKLE OF THE TREAD WOULD HAPPEN TO MEET THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY FORD GARAGE WHICH IS VENUS FORD IN CUDAHY, WISC. HE TOLD ME OVER THE PHONE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT AN AUTHORIZED FIRESTONE DEALER. I CONTACT MUSKEGO FIRESTONE IN MUSKEGO, WI. THEY INSPECTED THE TIRES AND I WAS TOLD THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE UNSAFE. AFTER I ASKED THE OWNER (KEITH) HOW SAFE THE TIRES ACTUALLY WERE,HE TOLD ME "IF THOSE TIRES WERE ON MY VEHICLE, THEY'D BE COMING OFF." KEITH CONTACTED FIRESTONE. FIRESTONE WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES FREE OF CHARGE I GUESS IN DOING THIS THEY WOULD NOT ADMIT TO ANY DEFAULT WITH THE TIRE OR WITH THEIE WORKMANSHIP. THE ONLY THING FIRESTONE WOULD DO FOR ME WAS TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES UNDER A PRO-RATING SYSTEM. DON'T GET ME WRONG, THE TIRES WERE WEARING LIKE IRON AND FOR HAVING 34,600 MILES ON THEM, THE ACTUAL TREAD WEAR LOOKED LIKE THE TIRES ONLY HAD 10,000 MILES ON THEM. THE DEPTH OF THE TIRES WERE MEASURED BY THE FIRESTONE DEALER AND ALL FOUR TIRES CAME IN AT 10/32. THE TIRES BEFORE COMING OFF OF MY VEHICLE WERE DOCUMENTED BY THE FIRESTONE DEALER ON SOME FORM WHICH I HAD TO SIGN. ON THIS FORM, THE SERIAL NUMBERS OF ALL FOUR TIRES WERE LISTED AND THE THEIR ACTUAL POSITION ON THE VEHICLE. THE REPLACEMENT TIRES FIRESTONE PROVIDED WERE AGAIN THEIR WILDERNESS AT'S AND SAME SIZE. MY COST WHICH INCLUDED LABOR AND TAX CAME OUT TO ABOUT $50.00 PER TIRE. AFTER SEEING THE SPLITS/CRACKS IN THE TIRES I WANTED THESE TIRES REMOVED BECAUSE IT WAS MY CONCERN THAT THERE WAS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE HERE.
