HAD TO HAVE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND FUSE BOX REPLACED DUE TO WINDSHIELD LEAKING WATER INTO 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. ALSO REPLACED WINSHIELD.
THE AIR BAG SENSOR CONTROLS THE HEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THE SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING AND THE VEHICLE'S REAR IS DROPPING, AND WILL NOT LIFT. ALSO, TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES, AND THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES. *BF *NM
EVERY TIME IT RAINS OR SNOWS, SEVERAL FUNCTIONS CONTROLLED BY MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BEGIN TO FUNCTION IRRATICALLY. AS AN EXAMPLE, WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT FUNCTION CONTINUOUSLY. IN ADDITION, IF THE VEHICLE IS SITTING IN THE RAIN, SEVERAL FUNCTIONS COME ON AUTOMATICALLY AND THE BATTERY INEVITABLY DIES. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE A BATTERY AND I WOULD LIKE FOR FORD TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM BEFORE I SINK ANYMORE MONEY INTO IT. IT APPEARS THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT HAS BEEN LINKED TO A LEAKY WINDSHIELD AND THE GEM MODULE OF THE VEHICLE. A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR EXPLORERS AND MOUNTAINEERS WITH THIS PROBLEM, BUT TO DATE, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THE EXPEDITION.
AFTER VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR 3 HOURS A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
SPOUSE WOKE UP TO GLASS POPPING, RAN OUT OF HOUSE, AND SAW GARAGE COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES - ONE WEEK PRIOR TO VEHICLE FIRE TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARD LIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK - BLOWN FUSE AND REPLACED IT. CRUISE CONTROL WOULD JERK WHILE ACTIVATED. *AK
NORMAL DRIVING, SHAKING STEERING WHEEL, WHICH LEAD TO A BROKEN WHEEL STUD AFTER IT WAS ALREADY FIXED IN ANOTHER RECALL. NO INJURIES, WAS CAUGHT BEFORE ANY DAMAGE WAS DONE. *AK
MY FORD EXPEDITION BLOW A SPARK PLUG AND KNOW REQUIRES A HEAD REPLACEMENT (OVER $2500) TALKED WITH FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY INDICATED THAT THEY SEE AT LEAST ONE FORD A MONTH WITH THIS PROBLEM.
1999 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER 4X4 THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS REMOVED BY THE DEALER WHEN THEY SOLD IT TO ME AND NEVER PUT ONE ON IT, ALSO THE /C BLOWS OUT HOT AIR UP FRONT AND COLD IN THE BACK, AND THE ODOMITTER DOES NOT WORK, IT GOES IN AND OUT AND THE DEALER REFUSES TO FIX IT. SEVERAL OF MY FRIENDS HAVE THE SAME TRUCK AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM
I BOUGHT A USED 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. I OWNED IT FOR LESS THAN 30 DAYS BEFORE THE FIRST SPARK PLUG EJECTED. AFTER HAVING THE DEALER FIX IT THE PROBLEM IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS. I HAD TO SPEND 1000 TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED HOME FROM NY, THE PRICE OF THE RENTAL CAR AND ANOTHER 3500 TO GET A NEW HEAD. NOT TO MENTION THE 500 I PAID THE DEALER TO FIX THE CAR. *JB
WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT IN SHOPPING CENTER WHEN THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR COLLAPSED TO THE GROUND. BEFORE PULLING INTO THE SHOPPING CENTER HAD BEEN ON THE MAJOR HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THE CAR WAS STUCK IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AT SHOPPING CENTER UNTIL A TOW TRUCK COULD COME AND TOW THE CAR AWAY TO CAUSEWAY FORD IN MANAHAWKIN NEW JERSEY. UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON SIDE OF CAR THAT COLLAPSED AND ON THE OTHER SIDE WHEN DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE OTHER SIDE WAS BAD ALSO. ALSO NEED WHEEL ALIGNMENT CAM ADJUSTERS AND SPINDLE CLIP REPLACED AND FOUND INNER TIE ROD FAILED ON DRIVER SIDE. OLD PARTS WOULD BE AT CAUSEWAY FORD IN MANAHAWKIN, NJ.*AK
AN IGLOO COOLER WAS PLUGGED INTO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER. THE FUSE TO THE IGLOO COOLER BLEW AND MELTED THROUGH, BLOWING OUT ALL OF THE RELATED FUSES. (THIS WAS NOT THE FAULT OF THE VEHICLE) *AK UNABLE TO SEE THE YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE. *SC
SPARK PLUG (BELIEVE IT WAS #4) BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. 66K MILES. THESE WERE ORIGINAL PLUGS, SO NOT ATTRIBUTABLE TO FAULTY MECHANIC. HEAD RE-THREADED, NEW PLUG INSERTED.
(1) 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WOULD NOT START, DEAD BATTERY. REPLACED BATTERY, DETERMINED ALL ELECTONIC COMPONENTS SHORTING OUT AND INOPERABLE: HEADLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, AND INTERIOR LIGHTS GOES ON AND OFF, WIPERS WORK ONLY INTERMITTENTLY.*AK (2) VEHICLE TAKEN TO LOCAL FORD REPAIR FACILITY. DEALERSHIP WAS IMMEDIETLY FAMILLIAR WITH PROBLEM. FAILURE ATTRIBUITED TO LEAKING WINDSHIED AND SUBSEQUENT WATER LEAKAGE ON VEHICLE GEM (GENERAL ELECRONIC MODULE) AND FUSEBLOCK (3) REPAIRS CONSISTED OF REPLACING WINSHIELD, REPACING GEM MODULE WITH IMPROVED WATER RESISTANT VARIATION (RESULT OF TSB), REPLACED FUSEBLOCK, REPLACED STARTER MOTOR. PROBLEMS WITH SOME ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS PERSIST AFTER REPAIR. (4) RESULING $1,650.00 REPAIR BILL FOR 5 YEAR OLD, 70K MILE GARAGE KEPT VEHICLE DUE TO BEING LEFT IN THE RAIN FOR TWO DAYS.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR 1 HOUR A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
MY FORD EXPLORER 1999 SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD AS I SHIFTED FORM DRIVE TO PARK COVERING A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 20 FEET GOING OVER THE FLOOR DEFENSE, CLIMBING THE SIDE WALK AND THEN GOING ON THE FIRST STEP OF THE BUILDING STAIRS. I INJURED MYSELF AND THE CAR WAS DECLARED TOTAL LOSS.
MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITON WENT INTO TOTAL MELT DOWN 5 MONTHS AGO. AFTER A RAIN STORM I WENT INTO IT AND AFTER STARTING IT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT NUTS THE RADIO DIED WHEN THE CAR WENT INTO REVERSE THE LIGHTS WENT ON AND OFF. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO MY MECHANIC WHO FINALLY WENT TO FORD AND NOW IT HAS BEEN BACK FOR THE 3RD TIME A NEW WINDSHIELD NEW COMPUTER AND STILL IF IT RAINS AND NOW IF IT IS HUMID ALL HELL BRAKES LOOSE.NOW THAT I SEE ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND 2,000 DOLLARS LATER ALL HELL WILL BRAKE LOOSE WITH FORD BECAUSE I AM WILLING TO DO WHATEVER I CAN AND HAVE TO GET RESULTS.
UPON DRIVING OUR 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WE WERE NOTICING A BURNING SMELL ORIGINATING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IN PREPARATION OF A ROAD TRIP WE DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND ASKED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE HEAD GASKETS WERE LEAKING OIL ON THE ENGINE BLOCK AS WELL AS THE STARTER AND THE EXHAUST, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. WE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO ASK FOR ASSISTANCE WITH THIS PROBLEM DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE WERE INFORMED BY A CERTIFIED FORD ENGINE TECHNICIAN THAT THERE HAS BEEN PREVIOUS SERVICE BULLETINS OUT ON THIS PROBLEM THAT WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT, HOWEVER FORD HAS NOT RESPONDED AS OF YET, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED OUR CALLS AND E-MAILS. AT THIS TIME NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE $2,500 TO $3,000 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED SINCE THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORTS. *JB
ON JANUARY 15TH, 2005 MY WIFE HAD RETURNED FROM A SHORT TRIP FROM THE GROCERY STORE IN OUR 1999 FORD EXPEDITION AROUND 9:30PM. SHE HAD BEEN HOME ABOUT 45 MINUTES WHEN I NOTICED THE SMELL OF SMOKE. I LOOKED OUT THE DOOR TO THE GARAGE AND SAW FLAMES COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD NEAR THE WINDSHIELD. I QUICKLY TOOK THE KEYS AND TRIED TO CRANK IT TO GET IT OUT OF THE GARAGE AND AWAY FROM THE HOUSE. FORTUNATELY IT DID CRANK. AFTER I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINQUISHER THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY A COUPLE DAYS LATER. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THIS FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY CRUISE-CONTROL DE-SELECTOR SWITCH. THE CRUISE-CONTROL HAD STOPPED WORKING ABOUT 4 OR 5 MONTHS AGO. AFTER THE FIRE I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF FLUID ON OUR GARAGE FLOOR. I NOW KNOW THAT WAS BRAKE FLUID FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER. I CALLED MONTGOMERY MOTORS SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON TUESDAY JANUARY 25TH AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM WITH EXPEDITIONS. TWO DAYS LATER FORD ANNOUNCES A RECALL ON CERTAIN YEAR MODEL EXPEDITIONS (NOT 1999). I'M UPSET THAT FORD KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND DID NOTHING ABOUT UNTIL THERE WERE OVER 63 FIRES (NOT COUNTING THIS ONE). AND NOW THEY ARE ONLY RECALLING A FEW YEAR MODELS WHEN IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH 1997 THRU 2002 MODELS. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT MY HOME AND FAMILY WAS NOT BURNED UP IN THIS FIRE. SOME OTHER FAMILIES MAY NOT BE AS LUCKY. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *AK
RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD WAS LEAKING IN 1999 EXPEDITION WITH 56000 MILES. DEALER OR FORD WOULD NOT CORRECT PROBLEM AND COST $2750 FROM FORD DEALER TO FIX. LEARNED LATER THAT IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM BUT WIDE SPREAD. WHY ISN'T FORD HELD RESPONSIBLE??? *AK
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED INSIDE THE GARAGE OF THE OWNER'S HOME. AT 9:30 PM FIRE WAS COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED. THE OWNER WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE GARAGE AND THE VEHICLE EXPLODED OUTSIDE THE HOME. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT THE FIRE OUT AND THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *JB THE FIRE WAS COMIMG FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE TOWARD THE MIDDLE. THE FIRE WAS MORE TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE FIRE. THE AC WOULD BLOW HOT AIR IN THE FRON AND COLD IN THE BACK. THE VEHICLE HAD CRUISE CONTROL BUT WAS ONLY USED ONCE OR TWICE. THE LAST TIME IT WAS USED WAS NEARLY A YEAR BEFORE THE FIRE. A CD CHANGER WAS ADDED TO VEHICLE BEFORE PURCHASED. OWNED VEHICLE AROUND 3 YEARS. THE FIRE DID SPREAD TO THE HOUSE. PHOTOS SENT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS INSURED BY RODNEY YOUNG LOCATED IN DALLAS, TX WHO SENT OUT A FIRE INVESTIGATOR. INVESTIGATOR'S INSPECTION FOUND THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH AS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. *TT
MY 99 FORD EXPEDITION'S SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM THE HEAD. THIS HAS CAUSED EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, NOT BEING ABLE TO GET TO AND FROM WORK AND OTHER PLACES. I HAD IT REPAIRED FOR A PRICE OF $300 DOLLARS. THIS WAS RIDICULOUS, FORD SHOULD PAY ALL EXPENSES. THEN I WAS DRIVING TODAY AND ANOTHER PLUG BLEW. MY TRUCK IS SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD RIGHT NOW. THIS IS TERRIBLE! *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS THREAD FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE SPARK PLUGS TO EJECT FROM THE COIL. HE ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. A TECHNICIAN FROM THE DEALER STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $1,900.00 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,800.

PURCHASED IN MAY 2001 - 1 WEEK LATER -BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ON. HAD TO FIX THAT. MANY MISC. THINGS I'VE HAD TO REPLACE ON THE VAN ALSO, TO THE TUNE OF $1500.00 OUT OF POCKET. IN 2003, MY "CHECK TRANSMISSION" LIGHT WENT ON EVERY TIME IT WAS DRIVEN. DEC 2004, I'M BY MYSELF W/2 KIDS, 1 HOUR FROM HOME ON A SUNDAY. CAR IS SMOKING ON FRONT END. TO MAKE THE LONG STORY SHORT, I ENDED UP GETTING A NEW TRANSMISSION & RADIATOR AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. TOTAL COST FROM ME - $3200.00. DOING RESEARCH ONLINE, I FIND THAT IT IS QUITE COMMON FOR 1999 FORD WINDSTAR'S TO HAVE TO HAVE TRANSMISSION'S REPLACED WITH LOW MILES. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE POSTED ON MSN AUTO'S ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS. MINE WAS REPLACED AT 70,000!! MY NEW TRANSMISSION (FORD FACTORY) "DIES" WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO GEAR. SO, AFTER A 2 WEEK WAIT TO GET INTO FORD, I FIND THAT IT NEEDS ANOTHER TRANSMISSION, BECAUSE MY $3200 I GOT 3 WEEKS AGO, ONE HAS SOMETHING WRONG. SO, I'LL BE OUT FOR 1 WEEK & STILL HAVE A "LEMON" CAR. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT IS THAT I DIDN'T HAVE $3200.00 FOR THIS CAR. I HAVE A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER, ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 13,2004 I WAS HAVING BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED ON MY TRUCK. THE MECHANIC NOTIFIED ME THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE TIE ROD END. HE SAID THAT THE BOLTS WERE BROKEN ON ONE SIDE AND MISSING ON THE OTHER. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE WAS SURPRISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UPRIGHT AND THAT I HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. MY VEHICLE HAS NOW BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 3 DAYS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC WHO IS FIXING THE PROBLEM STATED THAT I NEEDED TO FIND OUT IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE TIE ROD END.*AK
WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT 75 MPH SPARE TIRE CABLE BROKE, AND THE TIRE FLEW OFF. THERE WAS NO REPORT OF ACCIDENT/INJURY. *AK
WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP SIGN THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE. CONSUMER PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND THE VEHICLE CUT OFF. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT.*AK
THE CONSUMER WAS AWARE OF A FORD TSB CONCERNING OIL LEAKAGE. HE EXPERIENCED AN OIL LEAKAGE FROM THE HEAD GASKET INTO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. *JB
OIL LEAK FROM RIGHT SIDE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET. OIL LEAKS ONTO EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS IT COULD START A FIRE.*AK
AT THE END OF OCTOBER FUSE TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS BLEW OUT. REPLACED FUSE, AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. REMOVED FUSE, AND OPENED HOOD TO FIND SOURCE OF SMOKE, IT WAS THE BRAKE SWITCH ON TOP OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP, WHO REPORTED THAT THEY REPLACED THE SWITCH. 3 WEEKS LATER VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY FOR 1 HOUR AFTER DRIVING FOR .5 HOURS AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. ALSO, HOUSE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE HOLE IN THE HOOD WAS CENTERED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE NEAR THE MIDDLE. INSURED BY PROGRESSIVE. *AK
I HAD A SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF MY CYLINDER HEAD WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE READ REPORTS HAPPENING ALL OF THE TIME AND IT IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE. NO WARNINGS, JUST A $4000 BILL TO HAVE THE HEAD REPLACED. *JB
MY WIFE HAD PARKED OUR 1999 EXPIDITION FOR ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE NOTICING SMOKE AND FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CAR WAS SOON COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND DESTROYED. SINCE THE ENGINE HAD BEEN OFF FOR A WHILE, I SUSPECT AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. THIS VEHICLE HAD ALMOST 100K MILES AND WAS AN EDDY BAUER VERSION WITH THE SELF LEVELING FEATURE. I MENTION THIS BECAUSE APPROXAIMIATLY 30 MINUTES AFTER SHUTTING OF THE CAR, A COMPRESSOR TURNS ON AND LEVELS THE CAR, THIS IS NORMAL ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL. I SUSPECT THAT THIS MOTOR IS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. SINCE THIS FIRE WAS OUTSIDE NO-ONE WAS HURT, BUT IF THIS HAD BEEN IN A GARAGE IT WOULD HAVE BURN'T DOWN THE HOUSE. SINCE THIS IS ONE OF THE OLDER VEHICLES WITH THIS FEATURE, THERE ARE MORE POTENTIAL FIRES OUT THERE. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS POSSESION OF THE CAR AND WILL DESTORY IT IN 2 WEEKS, I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO LOOK AT THIS TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE. I RECEIVED AN UNUSUAL SAFETY BULLETIN FROM FORD WITH A DISCRIPTION OF HOW MECHANICS SHOULD INSPECT BALL JOINTS (STEERING LINKAGE). I SAID TO MYSELF THEN, WHEN I HAVE THIS INSPECTION PERFORMED, THE CAR WILL HAVE DEFECTIVE PARTS THAT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I WAS RIGHT. $594.45 FOR BALL JOINT REPLACEMENTS AT 47,271 MILES! BALL JOINTS SHOULD LAST 100,000 MILES OR MORE. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD REPLACE FOR FREE SINCE THEY INSTALLED DEFECTIVE PARTS ON NEW VEHICLES. DEFECTIVE STEERING LINKAGE IS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE AFTER BEING PARKED 5 MINUTES. FIRE CENTERED IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON DRIVER'S SIDE TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. BRAKE SWITCH AT PEDAL HAD BEEN REPLACED 4 MONTHS BEFORE FIRE.*AK
I OWN A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION.I HAVE HAD 3 SPARK PLUGS BLOW OUT OF THE HEADS. 2 DIDNT TAKE THE THREADS OUT BUT 1 COMPLETELY RIPPED THE THREADS OUT WITH IT. I HAD IT RETAPPED AND A HELOCOIL PUT IN BUT THAT ONLY LASTED ABOUT A MONTH. NOW BEST FORD IS TELLING ME I NEED TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER HEAD AT A COST TO ME OF 2500.00, AND FORD WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT DUE TO THE MILEAGE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO FORDS CUSTOMER RELATIONS CENTER TRYING TO WORK SOMETHING OUT TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET OF DEFECTIVE ALUMINUM CYLINDER HEADS WITH THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO THEM. PEOPLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THERE TRUCKS WITH AS LOW AS 25 THOUSAND MILES. *AK

PLUS...VEHICLE SWAYS ALL OVER THE ROAD AND PULLS RIGHT AND THEN PULLS LEFT WITH A LOT OF PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL AFTER SEVERAL 4/WHEEL ALIGNMENTS. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE INTO COURTESY FORD MATTYDALE NY SEVERAL TIMES NOW TO FIX FRONT END. NOW GOOD YEAR TELLS ME THEY FELL THE TIE RODS NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN??? PROBLEMS \ THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE DEFINITELY A RECALL ON THE FORD EXPIDITIONS. FURTHERMORE, ALL WHEEL DRIVE / 4 WHEEL DRIVE OFTEN IS LOCKED INTO 4 WHEEL WILL NOT COME OUT OF 4 WHEEL DRIVE. ***ALSO, DIGITAL DASH SHORT OR LOSS OF USE LIGHTS ON DASH GOING OUT INCLUDING ODOMETER OFTEN GO OUT AND THE TURN BACK ON I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING ALL OF THE ABOVE...FOR THE 99 FORD EXPEDITIONS. *** THE BRAKE PEDAL ALSO LOCKS UP IF/WHEN THE TIRE SPIN OR ENGINE REVS UP YOU TRY TO APPLY THE BREAKS HOWEVER, THE BREAK PEDAL WILL NOT MOVE IT'S LOCKED AND WILL NOT MOVE UNLIT TIRES STOP SPINNING OR ENG. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, AND LOST STEERING CONTROL. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED IN. TOW TRUCK DRIVER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE TIE ROD BROKE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE BEEPING NOISE LIKE AN ALARM STARTED TO SOUND. THEN THE RADIO, THE LIGHT SAYING THE WASHER FLUID AND THE 4X4 START FLASHING ON AND OFF WHEN CAR IS SHIFTED INTO PARK IT STOPS. ALSO ON AN OCCASION THE HEATER WAS RUNNING THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. HAD TO RESTART THE CAR TO GET THE HEATER TO STOP.
WHILE DRIVING, A LOUD POP WAS HEARD. LATER THERE WERE SEVERAL POPS HEARD, THE OWNER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LOOKED INSIDE AND SAW THAT THE SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN COMPLETELY OUT OF THE HEAD. THE OWNER HAD TO BUY ANOTHER SPARK PLUG AND AN IGNITION COIL. THE NEW SPARK PLUG WOULD NOT GO BACK IN BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS SPARK PLUG STRIPPED THE PLUG AREA WHERE THE NEW PLUG WOULD NOT ENTER. THE OWNER WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT WOULD COST 3,000.00 TO REPLACE THE HEADS TO KEEP THIS FROM RECURRING. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL LIGHTLY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED TO 95 MPH. THE CONSUMER APPLIED BOTH FEET TO THE BRAKE. THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO HAD NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED AND WHAT TO DO TO REMEDY THE DEFECT. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
WE OWN A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR VAN. WE WERE AT A SCHOOL EVENT WITH OUR CHILDREN AND WHEN WE GOT IN OUR CAR, WE THOUGHT WE SPOTTED SMOKE BUT WAS NOT SURE IF IT WAS OR IF IT WAS EXHAUST FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OF US (WE WERE PARALLEL PARKED). WE WENT TO THE GAS STATION AND UNDER THE LIGHTS WE SAW ALOT OF SMOKE POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. MY HUSBAND POPPED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A FIRE! WE BACKED THE VAN UP AWAY FROM THE GAS PUMPS AND EVERYONE GOT OUT FINE. WE HAD TO USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO GET THE FIRE OUT. WE TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THE TECHNICIANS THERE SHOWED US THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WAS MESSED UP. WE HAD THEM ORDER US A NEW PART AND WE REPLACED IT. THE WIRING HARNESS IN THE VAN IS STILL DAMAGED AS WE DID NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPLACE IT. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE OF THE RECALL I HEARD ABOUT YESTERDAY (1/27/05) REGARDING THE 2000 FORD TRUCKS AND SUVS. I AM POSITIVE THAT OUR VAN HAD THE SAME DEFECT.*AK

I HAD A TUNE UP DONE AT ROUNDTREE MOORE FORD DEALERSHIP IN LAKE CITY FLORIDA ON 08-11-04. I DROVE MY VEHICLE ON VACATION TO PENNSYLVANI AND WHILE THERE A SPARK PLUG CAME OUT AND DAMAGED THE CYLINDER HEAD AND COIL PACK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TOP A FORD DEALER IN PENNSYLVANIA (DAVIES FORD CONNELSVILLE PA)AND WAS ADVISED THAT IT APPEARED IT WAS THE FAULT OF THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP. UPON CONTACTING MY DEALERSHIP I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS WAS COMMON WITH THIS TYPE OF ENGINE. I HAD THE REPAIR DONE AT A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR $790.00.

IN JUNE I PURCHASED MY EXPEDITION AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RUMBLING NOISE AND PULLING TO ONE SIDE AT A SPEED OF 55 ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER. I HAD TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER HE SAID THEY CHECKED IT OUT CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WHILE TURNING IN TO A PARKING LOT IN SEPT. I HEARD A CRACK AND MY STEERING WAS NOT GOOD. I THOUGHT NOTHING SERIOUS ,WELL WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE I COULD NOT BACK UP MY FRONT WHEEL WAS DRAGGING RESULTS WAS A BROKEN TIE ROD. VERY LUCKY TO NOT BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY 3 CHILDREN. THE FRONT END IS STILL MAKING THE NOISE IN WHICH DEALER SAID FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS NOW THAT MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED ! IS THERE A RECALL ? *NM
THE NUMBER THREE PLUG ON THE ENGINE BLEW OUT. THE SPARK PLUG CAME COMPLETELY OUT OF THE HEAD. THE CYLINDER HEAD HAD TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. ALSO, PROVIDE CORRECT VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. *JB CONSUMER BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND NUMEROUS CASES. CONSUMER DO NOT THINK THE PUBLIC SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR FORD DESIGN FLAW. *BF
