BRAKES ON A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION GOES TO THE FLOOR. THEN THERE IS NO EXPLANATION WHAT IS GOING ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALER AND THEY SAY THERE NOTHING WRONG. NO PARTS WERE REPLACED. THE DEALER TRIED EVERYTHING HE KNEW POSSIBLE BUT COULD NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *NM
SEAT BELT LOCKING LATCH WILL RELEASE WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A RANDOM CONDITION. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE EVENT IN THE SHOP AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THIS PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. I WILL HAVE TO FIX THE PROBLEM SINCE I AM OUT OF WARRANTY NOW, BUT THIS IS A FORD PROBLEM I HAVE SEEN NOTED ON OTHER COMPLAINTS SUBMITTED. *NM
WE BOUGHT OUR 2002 EXPEDITION FEB/2006. SINCE THEN, EVERY TIME IT RAINS, WE EXPERIENCE WATER DRIPPING FROM THE VISOR HINGES. WE WERE CONCERNED THAT OUR ROOF WILL RUST SO WE TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC BUT HE COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. WE CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT BUT BECAME MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS SO WE TOOK IT BACK TO OUR MECHANIC AND TOLD HIM TO KEEP IT UNTIL HE FINDS THE PROBLEM ON OCT 30, 2006. WE ALSO NOTICED OUR DASH LIGHTS FLASHING. WE TOLD HIM TO ALSO FIND OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM ALSO. WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM HIM LATER IN THE DAY AND HE ADVISED US THAT HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THERE'S AN OVERLAYMENT OF METAL BEHIND THE WINDSHIELD THAT FORD FAILED TO SEAL CORRECTLY AND THE WINDSHIELD WASN'T SEALED CORRECTLY SO WHEN IT RAINS OR SNOWS, THE WATER SEEPS THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AND FILLS THE PILLARS WITH WATER. THE OVERFLOW OF WATER FROM THE PILLARS IS WHAT DRIPS THROUGH THE VISOR HINGES. SOME OF THE WATER LEAKS INTO THE WIRING IN THE DASHBOARD AND OTHER PLACES. FORD ADVISED THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS. WE FOUND SOMEONE ELSE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM FROM A PETRINA COMPTON @ MY3CENTS.COM WHICH SHE ADVISED OF A "SPECIAL MESSAGE" SENT DIRECTLY FROM FORD TO ALL FORD DEALERSHIPS IN APRIL OF 2002 WHICH STATES 1997-2002 EXPEDITIONS MAY EXHIBIT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS DUE TO WATER LEAKING IN THROUGH INCORRECTLY SEALED WINDSHIELDS. SPECIAL MESSAGE #15773. IF FORD IS ALREADY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY ADMIT THEY ARE AWARE OF IT IN SO MANY YEARS OF MODELS, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS? I FEEL THAT THIS DEFECT WILL BE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD WHILE OPERATING VEHICLE WHEN THE ELECTRICAL FAILS OR CAUSES A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND CAUSES A FIRE. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO INVESTIGATE THIS DEFECT. I'M SURE THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM BUT DON'T KNOW WHERE TO TURN OR HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THEIR MECHANICS AND DEALERSHIPS THAT THEY CANNOT LOCATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKED AND UNATTENDED, THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE ENGULFED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE FIRE BEGAN IN THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. PICTURES WERE TAKEN, AND THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED.
TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED MY VEHICLE DEVELOPED A DISTINCT VIBRATION SHORTLY FOLLOWED BY A TREAD SEPARATION. WE REDUCED SPEED AND PULLED INTO A SERVICE STATION WHERE THE SPARE WAS INSTALLED. THE SAME SCENARIO TOOK PLACE APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER WITH A DIFFERENT TIRE. THE VEHICLE IS A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION, PURCHASED NEW IN OCTOBER 2001, AND CURRENTLY HAVING LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT. TIRES (GENERAL GRABBER AW) ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND HAVE BEEN ROUTINELY ROTATED AND INSPECTED BY THE DEALER DURING SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE SPARE WAS PUT ON--IT, TOO, IS A GENERAL GRABBER AW, SAME AGE AS THE OTHERS--AND A NEW SPARE WAS PURCHASED. THAT SPARE WAS PUT ON AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT. I HAVE THE TWO DEFECTIVE TIRES. GENERAL TIRE WAS CONTACTED AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE UNSAFE TIRES. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING ON A PAVED INTERSTATE, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIE ROD FELL OFF. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DETERMINED BOTH SWAY BARS WERE FRACTURED AND THE OTHER THREE TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 11/3/2006 - *NM
FORD HAS A RECALL ON 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. IN DECEMBER 2005 THEY PUT A HARNESS ON THE SWITCH BECAUSE SWITCH WAS NOT LEAKING THEN. IN SEPTEMBER 2006 MY CRUISE CONTROL WENT OUT BECAUSE OF THE SWITCH LEAKING AND SUBSEQUENT FAILURE. AT THAT TIME FORD MADE US PAY FOR THIS REPAIR JOB EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THESE SWITCHES ARE BAD. WE HAVE THE PART THAT THEY REPLACED. RECALL SHOULD ADVISE THAT THEY ARE ONLY KEEPING THE BAD SWITCH FROM STARTING A FIRE, NOT REPLACING A DEFECTIVE SWITCH. *NM
DRIVER'S SIDE SAFETY BELT FAILS (DISCONNECTS) OFTEN. SERVICE PERSONNEL AT A FORD SERVICE CENTER INFORMED ME THAT THEY KNEW OF THE DEFECT AS BEING A FAULTY FEMALE CONNECTION IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE SAFETY BELT. THEY STATED THERE HAD BEEN NO RECALL AND THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR IT WITHOUT FULL COSTS BEING PAID BY ME. *NM
WE OWNED A 02 FORD EXPEDITION WHICH GAVE ME NO PROBLEM AND I LOVED AND OWNED IT OUT RIGHT. IN AUGUST OF 07 THE EXPEDITION BLEW OUT A SPARK PLUG FROM THE ENGINE WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC THEY SPECULATED RIGHT AWAY WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE AND UPON CHECKING IT OUT FOUND THERE SPECULATION TO BE TRUE. I PHONED OTHER MECHANICS WHO IMMEDIATELY SAID THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THAT YEAR ENGINE AND THOSE SURROUNDING IT. IT HAS OBVIOUSLY HAPPENED ENOUGH TIMES FOR SEVERAL MECHANICS TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND STATE THAT FORD WAS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. MY HUSBAND WENT TO SPEAK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHO RESPONDED THAT IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM AND THEY WERE ONLY AWARE OF A FEW INCIDENTS AND WERE GOING TO DO NOTHING ABOUT OUR PROBLEM. WE ENDED UP HELI COILING THE PLUG AND HAVING A TEMPORARY FIX. WE NO LONGER HAVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I COULD NOT TRUST THAT IT WOULD NOT BLOW A SPARK PLUG AGAIN AND WE HAVE CHILDREN AND NEED A RELIABLE VEHICLE. I'M VERY DISCOURAGED BY THE FACT THAT I NOW HAVE A CAR PAYMENT WHEN I DIDN'T BEFORE. I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE BUT THE MECHANICS HERE SEEM TO BELIEVE IT IS HAPPENING FAR TO OFTEN AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. AGAIN I OWNED THE EXPEDITION OUT RIGHT AND AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THE FACT THAT I HAD TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE OF SOMETHING THAT NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. TRANSMISSION SLIP. O/D LIGHT STARTED TO BLINK AND TRANSMISSION CLUNKS INTO GEAR. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE VERY PREVALENT AS A FEW OF MY FRIENDS WHO OWN 2000 TO 2002 MODEL FORDS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE HAD THEIR TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED OR REBUILT. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND THE MANUFACTURER IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES. 4R100 TRANSMISSION. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SOLENOID BODY OR HARNESS MALFUNCTION. *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 30-40 MPH ON A SHARP CURVE ON A FREEWAY ON-RAMP. WE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER AND A VERY LOUD POPPING NOISE. WE PULLED OVER SINCE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS SEEMED IMPOSSIBLE. WE WERE STRANDED IN A VERY DANGEROUS SPOT ABOUT 100 FEET IN FRONT OF THE FREEWAY ON-RAMP. AFTER AAA INFORMED US IT WOULD BE ABOUT AN HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK AND AN ACCELERATING VEHICLE CAME WITHIN INCHES OF OUR CAR, MY FAMILY AND I DECIDED TO ABANDON THE VEHICLE AND CLIMB A VERY STEEP AND DANGEROUS EMBANKMENT. I FEARED FOR MY THREE KIDS AND WIFE'S THE WHOLE TIME WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK. WE WERE TOWED TO A FORD DEALER WHERE THEY TOLD US( A WEEK LATER) THE NUMBER THREE SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN. THE USUAL PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES. THE PLUG BLOWS BECAUSE THERE ARE ONLY FIVE THREADS FOR THE SPARK PLUG IN THESE ALUMINUM HEADS. THE NEW DESIGN FROM FORD NOW HAS 12 THREADS. WE DECIDED TO HAVE THE WHOLE ENGINE REPLACED SINCE THIS COST LESS THAN HAVING TWO HEADS REPLACED. ITS 5500 FOR THE ENGINE AND 3500 PER HEAD. WE WANTED BOTH HEADS SINCE THE OTHER HEAD WOULD BE PRONE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. I THINK FORD SHOULD OWN UP TO THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE EVENTUALLY THERE ARE GOING TO BE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES TO SOMEONE AS A RESULT OF THIS. WE WERE ONLY INCHES AWAY FROM THIS HAPPENING. *NM
ON JULY 6, 2005, MY OF ENGINE SPARK PLUG EJECTION IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002 EXPEDITION TRITON V-8 THE SPARK PLUG DETACHED FROM THE CYLINDER AND/OR EJECTED FROM THE ENGINE. I HEARD A LOUD POP WHILE DRIVING OR UPON STARTING UP THE VEHICLE FOLLOWED BY A LOUD, REPETITIVE CLICKING OR POPPING SOUND. THE POPPING SOUND WAS ACCOMPANIED BY SOME LOSS OF VEHICLE POWER. THE VEHICLE DID STALL AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE IT UPON STARTING IT DUE TO THE LOUD NOISE I ALSO SMELLED GAS OR A SLIGHT BURNING SMELL WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED.*JB
FAILURE OF REAR AIR SUSPENSION WHILE DRIVING. FOUND PREVIOUS MODIFICATION TO REAR HEIGHT SENSOR, REPLACED BALL JOINT BRACKETS WITH BOLT, WASHER, AND NUT. "DEALER NOT RESPONSIBLE", BUT THEY DID ADJUST THE SENSOR PRIOR TO SALE. *NM
TODAY I HAD THE SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF MY FORD EXPEDITION WHEN I WAS ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY 3 KIDS. COME TO FIND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *JB
A FUSE BLEW & THE WINDOWS WOULDN'T GO UP. WHEN I REPLACED IT SMOKE STARTED POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF MY FORD EXPEDITION 2002, EDDIE BOWER WHICH WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I TOOK OUT THE FUSE & TRIED TO BACK THE EXPEDITION OUT OF THE GARAGE BUT I COULDN'T TAKE IT OUT OF PARK. I PUT THE FUSE BACK IN & FLEW OUT OF THE GARAGE SMOKE AGAIN COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I TOOK OUT THE FUSE & OPEN THE HOOD. THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM A SENOR ON THE MASTER CYLINDER. I SPRAYED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON IT AND UNPLUGGED IT. I PUT IT IN THE SHOP & THEY CHANGE THE CRUISE CONTROL BRAKE SWITCH. THE SAME PART WAS RECALLED ON MY F150 XLT 2000 PICK-UP. MY CRUISE CONTROL & HORN WON'T WORK NOW & THE SHOP DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG TO FIX BUT I CAN PUT THE FUSE IN & THE WINDOWS GO UP & DOWN, & WE CAN DRIVE IT. THE SHOP SAID THAT WHEN THIS PART GOES OUT IT LETS A CHARGE FEED BACK TO THE GROUND SIDE & CAN CAUSE FIRES. IT IS THE SAME PART AS WAS RECALLED ON MY PICK-UP! *NM
VEHICLE WITH 29,300 MILES. LIGHTLY DRIVEN, WELL MAINTAINED, INSPECTED, TIRES CHECKED & OIL CHANGED MARCH OF 2006. BORROWED MY MOM'S EXPEDITION. (BIG MISTAKE), LEAVING THE HOUSTON AREA HEADED FOR SAINT LOUIS WE GOT ABOUT 200+ MILES BEFORE THE TREAD CAME OFF. TOMBALL FORD, FORD COMPANY & CONTINENTAL / GENERAL GRABBER TIRES CHANGED OUR LIVES. HEADED IN BOUND IN THE RIGHT OR CENTER LANE A GRASSY STEEP MEDIAN SEPERATED THE SOUTH BOUND TRAFFIC. FELT A SMALL BUMP SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO SLOW DOWN & LIGHTLY BRAKED TO PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT, I DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE TO HIT THE BRAKE WHEN THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER TIRE TREAD CAME OFF, TRIED MAINTAINING A STRAIGHT DIRECTION TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN, BUT BEING SO TOP HEAVY NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED IT SHOT TOWARD THE MEDIAN LEANING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE MY TEENAGE SON WAS. THANK GOD HE PARTIALLY LAID BACK HIS SEAT & SEAT BELT ON. WHEN IT ROLLED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, FROM THIS POINT I AM TOLD (WE BOTH HIT OUR HEADS & WERE UNCONCIOUS) SUV SHOT OUT OF THE MEDIAN UPSIDE DOWN ONTO ANOTHER CAR WE CONTINED TO ROLL ACROSS THE S-BOUND LANES & CAME TO A STOP FACING EAST. AIRBAGS DIDN'T DELPLOY, ALL WINDOWS WERE BUSTED OUT(XCPT 2), DRIVER DOOR IS THE ONLY DOOR THAT OPENED. MY SON & I ARE THANKFUL, I RECEIVED STAPLES TO THE BACK OF MY HEAD, I HAVE TO HAVE AN MRI ON MY HEAD & NECK, SON HAS TO HAVE HIS SHOULDER & HIP CHECKED. DRIVERS SEAT BROKE LOOSE, ENTIRE DASH WAS DESTROYED. PEOPLE IN THE OTHER CAR WERE VISITING FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY (I'M FILLED WITH SORROW & A LOT OF COUNSELING AHEAD OF ME) THEIR FAMILIES ARE IN MY PRAYERS & THOUGHTS DAILY, TWO OF THE PEOPLE IN THE OTHER CAR PASSED AWAY UPON IMPACT. I DIDN'T KNOW ANOTHER CAR WAS INVOLVED. AN ER LADY WAS TALKING ABOUT THE WRECK, MENTIONED 2 PEOPLE DIED. I WAS THINKNG NO WE DIDN'T WE ARE RIGHT HERE. I GOT THE MEDIC THERE TO GIVE ME THE DETAILS. ALL DUE TO A FAULTY TIRE THAT HAD PROBLEMS 00 & 01 MODEL OWNERS WERE NOTIFIED BUT NOT 02 OWNERS. P275/GRABBERS. *JB
STARTED WITH PINGING NOISE FROM ENGINE 1 DAY BEFORE SPARK PLUG ON #3 CYLINDER BLEW OUT. BROKE COIL-OVER-PLUG MODULE & REQUIRED REPAIR TO HEAD. ANOTHER FAILURE RECENTLY OCCURED ON #8 CYLINDER INVOLVING HEAD REPLACEMENT.
I HAVE RECEIVED LETTERS FROM FORD STATING THAT THERE IS A DEFECT IN MY CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM ON MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING SUCH LETTERS FOR OVER TWO YEARS. I HAVE ON AT LEAST SIX OCCASIONS ATTEMPTED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THIS REPAIRED AT ONE OF SEVERAL LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS. I AM CONSTANTLY INFORMED THAT THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS AND THEY CANNOT SCHEDULE THE REPAIRS. IF THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, FORD NEEDS TO MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO MAKE THE PARTS AVAILABLE. MY MOST RECENT LETTER IS DATED MAY 20TH, 2008.
AN ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT NEVER CHANGED SPARK PLUG ON MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING BLEW OFF MY ENGINE, STRIPPING THE THREADS ON THE ENGINE BLOCK. PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING WELL AND WITHOUT PROBLEMS. *JB
BLOWN SPARK PLUG ON A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. MILEAGE:36046 CYLINDER NUMBER 3 I TOOK THE TRUCK TO FORD 4 DAYS BEFORE THE INCIDENT AS I HAD BEEN HEARING A SLIGHT TICKING NOSE COMING FROM ENGINE. FORD DEALER TOLD ME TO KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL SOMETHING BIGGER HAPPENED AS MY EXTENDED WARRANTY MIGHT NOT COVER ALL LABOR COSTS IF THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. TURNS OUT IT WAS SMALL EXHAUST LEAK AROUND THE THREADS OF THE PLUG. ONCE THE PLUG BLEW ON THE HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH LOUD NOISE AND LOSS OF POWER. NOW THE VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW HEAD AND WILL BE WITH DEALER FOR OVER A WEEK. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION SUV WITH TIRE PROBLEMS. I HAD A TIRE TREAD DETACHMENT SEPARATION ON A GENERAL GRABBER AW TIRE P275/60R17 ON 2/17/06. THE SAME TIRES THAT ARE ON MY VEHICLE WERE RECALLED FOR YEAR 2000 AND YEAR 2001 FORD EXPEDITION SUVS IN 2002 (REFERENCE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02T012000). I HAVE CALLED THE FORD COMPANY AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. ALL THE TIRES SEEM TO HAVE A SLIGHT VIBRATION PROBLEM. IT HAS NOT RIDDEN SMOOTHLY SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2002. I HAD FORD CHECK IT IN 2002 AND THEY SAID IT JUST HAD VIBRATION DUE TO IT BEING A SUV. THE TIRE VIBRATION BECAME WORSE JUST BEFORE THE TIRE FAILED AND HAD THE TIRE RUBBER DETACHMENT SEPARATION. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF YOU CAN HELP ME TO GET FORD TO REPLACE THESE TIRES AND PAY ME FOR THE TIRE THAT FAILED ALSO. THESE TIRES ARE A SAFETY HAZARD. *JB
MY REPAIR IS AS DESCRIBED IN SERVICE BULLETIN # 041601 AND NHTSA # 10018745. MY COIL WAS REPLACED. *JB
MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION EXPERIENCED AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION DUE TO A LIQUID BUILD UP IN ITS SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE HOW THE MOISTURE WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE AUDIO SYSTEM AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT OPERATE IN THE REVERSE OR DRIVE POSITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE, ON THE LAST OCCASION, A SMALL FIRE STARTED, RESULTING IN THE STARTER BEING BURNED UP. MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION'S WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND AUDIO SYSTEM WOULD NOT FUNCTION IN ANY POSITION EXCEPT PARK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN ON JAN. 24 AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE AUDIO AND WIPER SYSTEM FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. I GOT A CALL LATER IN THE DAY SAYING THAT THE VEHICLE'S WIPERS AND AUDIO SYSTEM DISPLAYED THE MALFUCNTION THAT I HAD DESCRIBED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE WAS SEVERE CORRSION AROUND SOME OF THE ELETRICAL PARTS. THE SERVICE TECH SUSPECTED A LEAK BUT COULD NOT TELL WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CORRODED PART FOR THE AMOUNT OF $1065.70 AND RELEASED THE CAR TO ME. ON JAN. 31, MY HUSBAND NOTICED AT 5:00 A.M AS HE WAS PREPARING FOR WORK THAT THE AUDIO SYSTEM WAS BLASING AND THE DASH BOARD WAS LIT. HE ATTEMPETED TO START THE CAR, BUT IT WOULDN'T. HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AT 8:00 A.M TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. A TOWING COMPANY WAS CONTACTED AT THIS TIME. AT APPROXIMATELY 12 NOON, MY HUSBAND ATTEMTED TO START THE CAR AGAIN. THIS TIME IT STARTED AND MY HUSBAND DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE "SERVICE ENGINE" LIGHT REMAINED ON, AND THE VEHICLE DROVE "ROUGH". ON ARRIVAL AT THE DEALERSHIP, A SMALL FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE STARTER HAD BURNED (ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE TECH). THE STARTER WAS REPLACED ON FEB. 6. THE SERVICE MANAGER THEN REPORTED THAT A LEAK WAS DETECTED, AND HE SUSPECTED THAT IT WAS COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD (WE TOLD THEM THAT WE REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD IN JULY BECAUSE OF A SMALL WHOLE FROM A ROCK IN THE ROAD). WE PAID AN ADDITIONAL $335 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STARTER. WE CARRIED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE GLASS DELEARSHIP AND HAD THEM RUN A "WET" TEST WITH MY HUSBAND AS A WITNESS. WATER DID NOT ENTER THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. AS AN EXTRA PRECAUTION WE HAD EXTRA SEALANT PLACED AROUND THE WINDSHIELD. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I LEARNED THAT THE WIPERS MAY HAVE A MALFUNCTION THAT CAUSES WATER TO ENTER THE DASH AFTER RAIN OR SNOW. BOTH OCCURANCES STARTED AFTER RAIN. *NM
STARTED AS SMALL OIL LEAK. AFTER PLACING DYE IN CRANKCASE FOUND DRIVERS SIDE HEAD GASKET LEAKING. I AM HAVING BOTH HEAD GASKETS REPLACED FOR 17K. THERE IS ONLY 49K ON THIS TRUCK WITH ALL NORMAL DRIVING. FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN POSTED I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY FORD HAS NOT BEEN MADE TO RESPOND TO THE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR PRODUCT LINE. I CURRENTLY OWN A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. A RECALL WAS PERFORMED (AT AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER) TO CORRECT AN ISSUE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH POSSIBLY OVERHEATING AND CAUSING A VEHICLE FIRE. ON DECEMBER 30TH 2005, MY EXPEDITION BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES WHILE PARKED. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *NM
2002 FORD EXPEDITION (EDDIE BAUER) WITH 63000 MILES ON 12/24/05, AT APPROXIMATELY 1530 HOURS, WE LOADED UP OUR INFANT AND TODDLER INTO THEIR CAR SEATS. I STARTED THE ENGINE AND IMMEDIATELY HEARD A LOUD THUMPING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND COULD SMELL GASOLINE. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT A SPARK PLUG COIL PACK WAS MOVED OUT OF PLACE AND THE RETAINING SCREW BRACKET WAS BROKEN OFF THE COIL PACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. I PULLED THE COIL PACK OUT AND REALIZED THAT THE SPARK PLUG WAS NO LONGER SCREWED INTO THE HEAD. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE THREADS ON THE SPARK PLUG. IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN-OUT OF THE HEAD. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THE TRITON ENGINE FOR 1998-2002 MODEL YEARS. I ALSO FOUND THAT FORD IS NOT PAYING FOR ANY REPAIRS. TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, THE HEAD AND HEAD GASKET WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. I GOT A PRICE QUOTE OF $2954.10 (INCLUDING TAX, PARTS, AND LABOR). HAD I LEFT THE ENGINE RUN LONGER, THE SPARK PLUG WILL STILL BE FIRING WITH GASOLINE BEING DISCHARGED INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, A SEVERE FIRE HAZARD. *NM

I'D ASKED THE TOWING PERSON TO BRING MY FORD EXPEDITION FORD DEALER IN BELLFLOWER. I SEARCH THE INTERNET FOR RELATIVE ISSUES REGARDING MY PROBLEM WAS IDENTICAL TO NHSTA RECALL ID # 97V17100 AND 97V14700. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS STILL ON GOING PROBLEM WITH FORD EXPEDITION SINCE 1997 AS INDICATED TO THE RECALL NUMBER DATE. I ASKED FOR THE OLD PART (SHIFTING CABLE ASSEMBLY SO I COULD EVALUATE WHAT WHEN WRONG. I'VE NOTICED THAT STEEL BRAIDED CABLE WAS USED AND IT WAS ENCLOSED IN A VERY STRONG PLASTIC PROTECTION. BUT THE CABLE BREAK INSIDE THE CASING. I ONLY HAVE 55,000 MILES. I'D ALSO NOTICED THAT I COULD NOW EASILY CHANGED OR SHIFT THE SHIFTING LEVER WITH VERY LIGHT MOVEMENT OF MY HAND UNLIKE WHEN I'D FIRST GOT MY EXPEDITION BACK IN APRIL 2002. I'D REMEMBER THAT MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE TO REALLY PULLED IT HARD JUST TO SHIFT THE LEVER, BACK THEN I THOUGHT THAT WAS NORMAL BUT AFTER THE SHIFTING CABLE WAS REPLACED I COULD CHANGED THE GEAR POSITION WITH JUST MY FINGER AND REALLY VERY LIGHT PRESSURE. SO. MY CONCLUSIVE TO THE ISSUE WAS 1) FORD PERSONNEL DOES NOT PAY ATTENTION ON PROPER INSTALLATION OF THIS SHIFTING CABLE 2) FORD USE INFERIOR OR SUBSTANDARD PART. THE MOVEMENT OF THE SLEEVE AND THE LOCATION OF THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE ASSEMBLY CLOSE TO THE SHIFTING LEVEL WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVED FORD SHOULD LOOK FURTHER ON THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE THIS SINCE 1997 I STILL HAVE THE OLD PART AND IT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THIS PROBLEM IS SIMILAR TO THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLED LAST YEAR BY FORD REGARDING TIRE TRED SEPARATION ON THEIR SUV LINE. MY EXPEDITION HAD A TRED SEPARATION ON THE LEFT FRONT TIRE AT 65 MPH, WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER, WHEEL WELL, AND RUNNING BOARD. THE TIRE WAS STILL PERFECTLY INFLATED, BUT THE ENTIRE TREAD, WHICH IS STILL HARDLY WORN, COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE, CAUSING THIS DAMAGE. I TALKED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND THEY SAID IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY AS IT IS OUT OF THE 36,000 MILE WARANTY. THEY ARE LUCKY MY SUV DIDN T FLIP OVER AND KILL ME, LIKE MANY BEFORE ME WHO HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL FACTORY TIRES THAT FORD INSTALLED ON MY NEW EXPEDITION. I FEEL THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE TIRES AND FIXING THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. I WOULD LIKE FORD TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE TO MY SUV CAUSED BY THEIR DEFECTIVE TIRE. I WOULD ALSO LIKE FORD TO REPLACE THE REMAINING TIRES SO THAT THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN.
2002 FORD EXPEDITION HAD AN UNDER HOOD FIRE THAT IGNITED IN THE WIRE BANK NEAR WIPER MOTOR. *** NO ANSWER REQUIRED*** *TS THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE FIRE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL NOTICE THAT HE RECEIVED. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE IN THE WIRING AND NOT THE BULBS OR FUSES. THE COMPLAINED THAT THE DIRECTIONAL LIGHT WAS NOT WORKING. THE CONSUMER WAS THEN TOLD THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
