The contact owns a 2004 Ford Expedition. The contact recently purchased the vehicle and stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission hesitated before upshifting with the accelerator pedal depressed. Additionally, while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle rolled backwards when the accelerator pedal was depressed before responding as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to return the vehicle to the independent dealer where the vehicle was purchased; however, the dealer declined to assist. Recently, the vehicle stalled, and it was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic retrieved fault codes for the engine and stated that the TCM needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact was unable to drive above 15 MPH because the vehicle became difficult to control. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and determined that the rear axle was fractured, the rear subframe was severely corroded, and the rear driver's side sway bar and rear differential were corroded. The contact owns a 2004 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was jerking. The contact stated that one spark plug exploded and then another spark plug exploded and went through the cylinder head. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the spark plug was replaced. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
Electrical fire today. Vehicle was parked outside garage. A clicking noise was heard and noticed the mirror was trying to move/click and car was filled with smoke. Mirror switches didn't work when tried. Knocked mirror off and fire stopped. Wiring Harness around the emergency brake area melted. Fire melted a hole in the dash corner by windshield. Vehicle was last driven about 25 hrs. earlier with no issues. Approx. 128K miles. Glad it wasn't in garage and the clicking was heard or garage/house would have burned. We haven't done anything to it yet.
Unknown, transmition left me stranded on busy highway. Managed to get it moved off the road before being hit. After getting it home and not driving for a period of time it can be started and moved with no issue. Drive to town no problem parked it to take care of some business and when I went to leave I couldn't back out of the parking place. Got it home and let it sit again. Needed to move it out of the way all was good started it and moved it across the yard and backed it in no problem. Had K&O auto look at it and was told it needs a transmission. I see allot of complaints about this issue from others without Ford being held responsible to correct the problem. Nice vehical said I can't afford to get it fixed, now driving a 500.00 used vehicle to get around, it is an eye sore but gets me around ok. Would rather enjoy the expidition if Ford would fix the issue that 1000's have had.

VEHICLE LOST POWER FOR 3-5 SECONDS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON THREE SEPARATE EVENTS. VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN DUE TO POWER LOSS WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THREE OTHER TIMES AT IDLE SPEED IN DRIVE AND IN PARK ENGINE STALLED AND IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED. LOSS OF POWER STEERING DUE TO ENGINE NOT RUNNING WHEN STALL EVENT HAPPENED. I PERFORMED INSPECTION OF FUEL PUMP RELAY WHICH IS INTERNAL TO PASSENGER SIDE FUSE BLOCK. FOUND INADEQUATE SOLDER JOINT ON INTEGRATED RELAY PRINTED CIRCUIT AND BURN MARKS ON OUTSIDE OF FUEL PUMP RELAY. LOCATED SALVAGE FUSE BLOCK SAME MAKE AND MODEL AND INSPECTED. SAME DAMAGE ON SALVAGE FUSE BLOCK ASSEMBLY. REPLACED WITH AFTERMARKET FUSE BLOCK WITH REVISED SOLDER JOINT AND UPDATED RELAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN A STAND STILL THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL ON THE MUFFLER SYSTEM AND STARTER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, A BURNING ODOR WAS DETECTED COMING FROM THE MUFFLER AREA. THE CONTACT STATED THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED A LOCAL DEALER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER THE FAILURE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HEAD GASKET WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT 75,000 MILES AND HE REPLACED THE HEAD GASKET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 210,000.

WHILE DRIVING A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION 178,000 KEPT STALLING ON THE HIGHWAY AND STREETS. I HAD IT TOWED SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE IT WON'T START BACK ON THE NEXT DAY IT WOULD TURN ON. HAD THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED AND STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS IT TURN OFF ON MY 18 YEAR OLD SON LIKE 5 TIMES GOING TO SCHOOL AND WORK WHERE IT ALMOST GOT TO THE POINT WHERE WE FELT IT WASN'T A RELIABLE DUE THE FACT IT STALLS WHILE ON THE ROAD OR EVEN JUST TURNING AND ALMOST CAUSED MY SONS LIFE . FINALLY WE FOUND OUT IT'S THE RELAY GETS HOT AND IT CAUSES FOR THE CAR TO STOP AND I'M AWARE THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS VERY FRUSTRATING AND DISAPPOINTING THEY HAVE NOT DONE A RECALL ON THIS THE RELAY CAN NOT BE CHANGE BY ITS SELF HAS TO BE THE WHOLE CIRCUIT BOARD
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND SHUT OFF. LATER, AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP RELAY CIRCUIT BOARD HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND BURNT OUT. THE CIRCUIT BOARD WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. AN UNKNOWN LOCAL DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT RANDOMLY CAME ON
MY DASH VENTS ARE NOT SENDING ANY A/C OUT THE FRONT VENTS, AND I ALSO FEEL HEAT FROM THE FLOOR BOARD OF MY CAR ALONG WITH EXHAUST EMISSIONS. I KNOW THAT THE SAN DIEGO POLICE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR EXPEDITIONS AND THEY WERE RECALLED AND REPAIRED,NOW THEY CHANGED TO FORD EXPLORERS . IS THERE ANYTHING STILL ON THE BOOKS FOR THE EXPEDITIONS? THE VEHICLE CAN BE IN ANY FUNCTION,IT IS JUST NOT WORKING, AND ALSO I HEAR A TUMPPING NOISE IN MY RIGHT REAR PANEL. I AM UNABLE TO SEND ANY PICTURES BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS COVERED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER WAITING SEVERAL MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COWLES PARKWAY FORD (LOCATED AT 13779 NOBLEWOOD PLAZA, WOODBRIDGE, VA 22193, (703) 986-5500) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED A DAY LATER. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE THAT THE FUEL PUMP RELAY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 188,000.
RUSTED OUT ROCKER PANELS, BRAKE LINES, FRONT END RADIATOR MOUNTS, FENDER MOUNTS. THE ENTIRE UNDER CARRIAGE IS RUSTING AWAY. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES AS THEY HAVE RUSTED AWAY, REDID THE ROCKER PANELS RUST AWAY. NOW WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FRONT END BECAUSE OF RUST. WILL NOT PASS PA STATE INSPECTION DUE TO RUST. IS THE EXPEDITION IN THE RECALL FOR RUST?
HEAD ON COLLISION WITH FORD F-250 AND NEITHER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. WE DID NOT HAVE ANY RECALLS ON OUR FORD EXPEDITION. MY HUSBAND AND SON ARE VERY LUCKY I WILL NEVER OWN A FORD EVER AGAIN.
THE ROD THAT DETACHES TO THE BACK OF THE TIRE HADE BROKE OFF CAUSING MY TIRE TO STAY OUT WORDS ON A CITY STREET
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 - 40 MPH DOWN SPACECENTER BLVD AND WITHOUT WARNING AND FOR NO REASON MY SIDE AIRBAGS SUDDENLY DEPLOYED.

A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 208,000.
THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING (AT ANY SPEED) AND OFTEN WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE MAY ALSO NOT START AT ALL THEN START WITHOUT EXPLANATION. THE MOST COMMON RECOMMENDATION IS TO REPLACE THE FUEL RELAY. TO DO SO, YOU MUST REPLACE THE SMART JUNCTION BOX/FUEL RELAY PANEL. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NUMEROUS MENTIONS AND IS OFTEN DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE AND COMMONLY BECOMES A PROCESS OF ELIMINATION. THE BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE SAFETY ISSUE AND ODDS OF ACCIDENT OR FATALITY. DIAGNOSES TYPICALLY REQUIRES COMPLETE FAILURE BECAUSE THE SYMPTOMS CAN RARELY BE DUPLICATED. THIS HAS HAPPENED FREQUENTLY WITH COMPLETE FAILURE HAPPENING. HARDWIRING THE FUEL PUMP RULES THAT OUT. FUEL RELAY IS FOUND TO BE HOT TO THE TOUCH.
I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT I HIT A CONCRETE WALL AT 50 MILES PER HOUR HEAD ON AND MY AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED I WAS ON A HIGH WAY
MULTIPLE AND INTERMITTENT ENGINE STOPPAGE. THE ENGINE STALLS SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC CAUSING HAZARD TO SELF AND OTHERS. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING MAKES CONTROL OF VEHICLE DIFFICULT AS POWER STEERING IS NON FUNCTIONAL AS YOU ATTEMPT TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF A BUSY ROAD. BRAKING SYSTEMS ALSO ARE MOSTLY NON FUNCTIONAL WITHOUT THE VACUUM CREATED BY THE RUNNING ENGINE MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP QUICKLY. THIS PRESENTS A DIRE EMERGENCY CONDITION FOR THE SURPRISED DRIVER, AND A HAZARD TO OTHER OCCUPANTS AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS NEARBY. A DRIVER WHO IS SMALL IN STATURE MAY BE UNABLE TO MAN-HANDLE THE STIFF STEERING CONDITION. ONCE STOPPED, THE ENGINE MAY RESTART RIGHT AWAY OR NOT, STRANDING OCCUPANTS IN UNSAFE CONDITIONS AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT CHAIN INVOLVING LIFE AND DEATH. FUEL PUMP RELAY FAILURE IS THE CAUSE AND VERY COMMON, (100S OF THOUSANDS OF POSTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM). THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS THESE EXPEDITION VEHICLES IN A WIDESPREAD FASHION SIMILAR TO THE LCM SAFETY ISSUE WITH ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT, THE CROWN VICTORIA. (A RECALL WAS ORDERED ON THIS ISSUE FOR SOME OF THE MODEL YEARS) THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 8 TIMES IN 3 WEEKS SINCE OWNING THIS 2004 VEHICLE. IT IS CURRENTLY AT THE FORD DEALER WHO STATE THEY MAY NEED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FOR UP TO 3 WEEKS TO OBSERVE THE FAILURE MODE. (IT IS INTERMITTENT)

NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED AND WAS TOWED AWAY BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED (LAFAYETTE FORD IN FAYETTEVILLE, NC) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAGS WERE NOT IMPACTED DIRECTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 178,000.
WHEN DRIVING HOME FROM SEATTLE WA. TO WALLA WALLA WA. AT A SPEED OF 70 MPH THE VEHICLE DIED AND I HAD TO GET OFF THE ROAD, IT THEN RESTARTED AND DID IT TO ME 3 MORE TIMES. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT WAS IN THE FUSE BOX. HE HAD JUST DID A REPLACEMENT ON THE SAME TYPE VEHICLE THAT HAD CAUGHT FIRE. IT IS THE FUEL RELAY IN THE FUSE BOX THAT MALFUNCTIONS AND CATCHES FIRE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE DID NOT GET FUEL FROM THE FUEL PUMP. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED THAT THE FUSE PANEL BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,900.
MY VEHICLE, WITHOUT ANY WARNING AT ANY SPEED, INCLUDING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY,WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR INDICATION THAT IT IS ABOUT TO DO THIS. ALWAYS ON A STRAIGHT ROAD WITH ALMOST A FULL TANK OF GAS. THE CAUSE A RELAY SWITCH WHICH IS SOLDIERED INTO THE MEMORY BOARD THAT CONTROLS THE VEHICLE'S BRAIN BOX THAT SHORTS OUT. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I AM BOTH SHOCKED AND DISGUSTED THAT THE NHSTA HAS NOT INVESTIGATED THIS FAULTY DESIGN BY FORD AND MADE THEM RECALL ALL OF THE 2003- 2008 EXPEDITIONS. YOU ONLY HAVE TO PULL IT UP ON YOU-TUBE OR GOOGLE TO SEE THE 1000'S UPON 1000S OF COMPLAINTS FROM EXPEDITION OWNERS CONCERNING THIS CONSTANT AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM, WHICH CLEARLY ENDANGERS EVERY EXPEDITION OWNER AND THEIR FAMILY. THE WORST PART OF THIS, THE FORD DEALERSHIPS WANT YOU TO SPEND $1000 OF DOLLARS NEEDLESSLY TO TRY AND DIAGNOSE THIS SAME, OLD PROBLEM, BEFORE THEY FINALLY DEAL WITH REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUSE BLOCK PANEL, JUST FOR THE RELAY SWITCH, WHICH IS THE CAUSE, THE SHORTING OUT RELAY SWITCH. THE INTERNET SHOWS AGAIN AND AGAIN, THAT THIS PROBLEM IS SO RAMPANT, THAT IT ISN'T IF IT HAPPENS, BUT WHEN, BECAUSE IT WAS A FAULTY AND DEFECTIVE DESIGN, WHICH ENDANGERS ALL EXPEDITION OWNERS MADE THESE YEARS. THE FAULTY FUSE BLOCK'S FUEL PUMP RELAY SWITCH BURNS OUT AND BETWEEN THAT AND THE THIN WIRES GROUNDING OUT UNDER THE HOOD, DRIVERS, UNSUSPECTINGLY ARE LEFT IN PANIC MODES ON THE HIGHWAY, SCRAMBLING TO GET OUT OF HARMS WAY, AS A RESULT OF YOUR VEHICLE TURNING OFF AT ALL SPEEDS, IE, 70 MPH. IMAGINE A SEMI IS BEHIND YOU AND YOU DON'T HAVE THE SAFE MEANS OF ESCAPING THE DANGEROUS PREDICAMENT YOU ARE NOW LEFT IN TO GET OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD? A RECALL IS NEEDED ASAP BEFORE TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE NEEDLESSLY KILLED AS A RESULT. EXPEDITION'S ARE FAMILY VEHICLE'S AND USUALLY HAVE LOTS OF CHILDREN IN THEM! THIS IS TOO DANGEROUS TO KEEP OVERLOOKING.

THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED NECK INJURIES WHILE SEATED IN A CHILD SAFETY SEAT LOCATED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED UNDER COMPLAINT NUMBER: 170606882. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,904.
ALSO LIKE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN, THE 2004 FORD EXPEDITION I HAVE HAS SHUT OFF ON ME SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING AND I WAS TOLD TO SWITCH OUT THE ENTIRE FUSE BOX. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID TO REPLACE IT, IT WOULD BE ABOUT $500 FOR IT. IT'S RIDICULOUS FORD HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL BECAUSE THIS SEEMS LIKE A PROBLEM MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING AS WELL. WE HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO A COUPLE OF ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE! WE CAN'T KEEP HAVING TO RELY ON ONE LESS VEHICLE, BUT WHAT OTHER ALTERNATIVE DO WE HAVE IF IT'S GOING TO COST US, THE CONSUMER, A LOT OF MONEY TO REPLACE FOR SOMETHING THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR.

VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, STOPS AND WILL NOT START FOR 2-3 DAYS. AFTER 2-3 DAYS VEHICLE STARTS BACK WITH NO PROBLEM, BUT IN A COUPLE OF DAYS DOES THE SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN.

BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO RUST. CARS PREVIOUSLY HAD DUAL HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS. IF ONE FAILED, THE OTHER STILL WORKED. THAT IS NO LONGER TRUE. IT'S ALL ONE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND IF A LEAK OCCURS, THERE IS NO SECONDARY SYSTEM; ONLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS AVAILABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AND NOW, IN NEW CARS, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS SWITCHED TO ELECTRIC. PREVIOUSLY YOU COULD GRADUALLY APPLY THE MANUAL EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AFTER A HYDRAULIC FAILURE, BUT NO MORE. I HAVE NOW HAD 2 RUST INDUCED BRAKE LINE FAILURES IN MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION, AND THANKFULLY, A WORKING EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE A MAJOR ACCIDENT OCCURRED. NEW CARS NO LONGER HAVE THIS SAME LUXURY OF AN EMERGENCY BRAKE. THEY HAVE ONLY THE ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE - NO GRADUATED CONTROLS, NO MANUAL INTERVENTION. AND THE NEW AUTO BRAKING SYSTEMS ARE GREAT TO PREVENT REAR END COLLISIONS, BUT ONLY WHEN THE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE IS WORKING. YOU NEED TO CONSIDER BRINGING BACK THE DUAL HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND THE MANUAL (GRADUALLY) EMERGENCY BRAKE.
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A MAJOR FRONT-END ACCIDENT WHICH THE DRIVER SUFFERED A SIGNIFICANT INJURY AND WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, AND THE SEATBELT LATCH NEGLECTED TO KEEP THE DRIVER FROM BEING EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET AND COLLIDED WITH A POWER POLE AND THEN A SIGNAL POLE. UPON HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH THE SIGNAL POLE, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP BUT THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED AND THE SEAT BELT LATCH FAILED TO KEEP THE DRIVER IN THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND SUFFERED MAJOR INJURY.
WITHOUT WARNING AND WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE JUST QUITS, LOSS OF POWER STEERING, BRAKES AND TRAFFIC, VERY DANGEROUS. SECOND TIME....PROBLEM NOT FOUND.

WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY ON LOCAL STREETS, THE ENGINE JUST STOPS WITH NO ABILITY TO DRIVE. I AM AN INSTANT SAFETY PROBLEM ON THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN ONE DAY.
