ENGINE LOST THROTTLE CONTROL, REDUCED TO IDLE AND THEN STALLED. I COASTED OFF ROAD, AND RESTARTED AFTER 2 ATTEMPTS. *TR
ON 1/9/2013, I WAS DRIVING AT APPROX. 35 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE TURNED ITSELF OFF. I ATTEMPTED RESTARTING THE ENGINE TO NO AVAIL. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE STILL WOULD NOT START. AFTER WAITING ABOUT FIVE MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE CAR SEEMED TO RUN SLOWLY ON THE WAY BACK HOME. THE NEXT TIME I DROVE THE CAR, IT SEEMED TO RUN NORMALLY. ON 2/12/2013, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT 25 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN. SHE HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD & WAIT TO RESTART THE CAR. SHE SLOWLY DROVE BACK HOME WITH THE VEHICLE. NEXT TIME THE CAR WAS TAKEN OUT, IT RAN NORMALLY. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD OCCUR ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS AT A HIGHER SPEED & THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN VASTLY DIFFERENT. *TR
WE WERE EXPERIENCING STALLS AND OVERALL SLUGGISHNESS AND TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD US WE NEEDED A TUNE UP. MY HUSBAND USUALLY DOES MINOR UPKEEP, THANKED THE MAN AND WAS ABOUT TO TAKE OUR TRUCK HOME WHEN THE MECHANIC INFORMED US THAT THE PLUGS WERE A BEAR TO CHANGE SINCE WE WOULD NEED A SPECIAL TOOL AND CHANCES ARE, THE PLUGS WOULD BREAK OFF. WE WERE SKEPTICAL BUT TRUSTED HIM TO DO THE JOB. IT COST SO MUCH AND TOOK SO LONG, WE BOUGHT A BEATER CAR IN THE INTERIM SO WE COULD GET TO WORK! AND IT COST OVER $1000...FOR A TUNE UP!!! IT LOOKS LIKE FORD KNOWS FULL WELL ABOUT THIS BUILT IN MONEY MAKER SINCE I SEE WE ARE IN GOOD COMPANY WITH MANY OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. SHAME ON FORD.
TWICE IN LAST WEEK, DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED AND "ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE" LIGHT COMES ON. LOST POWER, BRAKING, AND STEERING. FORCED TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL WHILE CAR WAS ROLLING TO RESTART. ROLLED RIGHT THRU STOP SIGN. RESTARTED FINE, LUCKILY. IN SECOND EVENT, ALMOST GOT HIT WHEN TURNING LEFT ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC! STARTED TURN AND COULDN'T STOP TURN DUE TO LOSS OF BRAKING. FORTUNATELY, FIRST TIME I TRIED THE RESTART IN NEUTRAL AND IT WORKED, OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT IN SECOND EVENT OR HIT SOMETHING SINCE I COULDN'T STEER. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TROUBLE CODES DETECTED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

THE VEHICLE RESTARTED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WENT INTO SAFE MODE AT 65 MPH AND STALLED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED IMMEDIATELLY AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC THE SECOND TIME WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED AGAIN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOW AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH. THE WARNING LIGHT STARTED TO ILLUMINATE AND SHOWED THAT THE ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE HAD ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PREVIOUSLY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT COULD NOT FIND A FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SECURE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE DEALER FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
THE PAINT ON THE LIFT GATE IS BUBBLING AND PEELING, CAUSED BY A PROBLEM WITH THE ALUMINUM. A PROBLEM THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF BEFORE MY CAR WAS SOLD.
I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY, FM 185. I WAS DRIVING NORTHEAST WHILE THE OTHER DRIVER WAS SOMEWHAT STOPPED HEADING WEST, TRYING TO TURN SOUTH ONTO CATTLE DRIVE. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AWAITING TO TURN LEFT. THE OTHER DRIVER TURNED LEFT IN FRONT OF ME AS I WAS HEADED STRAIGHT. THE INITIAL IMPACT WAS DRIVER'S FRONT SIDE AND THEN DOWN THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. WE HIT, AND THEN MY VEHICLE DID A 180 DEGREE TURN WHICH TURNED MY VEHICLE AROUND FACING MY INITIAL PATH OF DIRECTION. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I HAD CURTAIN SIDE AIRBAGS, DRIVER, AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS AS WELL. THE AIRBAGS OF THE CAR CAUSING THE ACCIDENT DID DEPLOY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 113,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT CYLINDERS 5, 6 AND 8 HAD MISFIRED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE THREE SPARK PLUGS HOWEVER, TOW BECAME FRACTURED. ONLY ONE OF THE FRACTURED SPARK PLUGS WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED TO ASSIST THE CONTACT WITH THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,889. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH IN A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION, THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING SHUT DOWN. DUE TO THE LOSS OF POWER, THE STEERING AND BRAKES WERE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE VEHICLE COASTED ON THE HIGHWAY UNTIL I WAS SAFELY ABLE TO DIRECT THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. AFTER STOPPING AND PARKING THE VEHICLE SAFELY, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS OCCURED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES IN MONTHS THAT FOLLOWED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INCIDENT ONLINE, I LEARNED THAT THE THROTTLE CONTROL SWITCH MAY HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP OF MY RESEARCH AND THEY DID NOT AGREE. I REPLACED THE SWITCH ON MY OWN AND I HAVE NOT ENCOUNTERED ANY ADDITIONAL ENGINE FAILURES SINCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL SPORADICALLY WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL SPORADICALLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR A SECOND OPINION AND THE SECOND DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE ENGINE ENGAGED IN FAIL SAFE MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR CONTROL VALVE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
3RD TIME PROBLEMS WITH SPARK PLUGS AND FUEL INJECTOR....WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THIS YEAR MODEL THE INJECTORS ARE BAD FOR STICKING....LEAVING THE OWNER TO PAY FOR REPAIR COST AND THE EXPENSE OF CHANGING FORDS FAULTY SPARK PLUGS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SOMEONE BROKE INTO THE VEHICLE AS A RESULT OF POORLY MANUFACTURED DOOR HANDLES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOORS WERE BROKEN INTO BY USING A SCREWDRIVER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND SHOWS 'ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE'. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN MARCH 2012 (I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW). IT HAS HAPPENED IN 1) A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT WHILE ON VACATION; 2) IN A PARKING GARAGE AT WORK; 3) IN A STORE PARKING LOT; 4) IN A STORE PARKING LOT; 5) ON A ROAD; 6) IN A STORE PARKING LOT. (#5/#6 JUST HAPPENED YESTERDAY TO MY WIFE WHILE SHOPPING WITH OUR 3YR. OLD SON). THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT CAN HAPPEN ANY TIME, ANYWHERE, WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND OF COURSE THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM - EVEN THOUGH I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS ONLINE FORUMS AND RIGHT HERE ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE. IT SEEMS (FROM MY RESEARCH ONLINE) THAT THE PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED BY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY AND TPS - WHICH IS A COSTLY REPAIR FOR WHICH I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY (AFTER JUST BUYING NEW TIRES IN ADDITION TO A SEPARATE $500 REPAIR). FORD NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE FAIL SAFE MODE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS ALSO CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE THROTTLE COULD HAVE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
ENGINE WAS LOSING POWER UNDER LOAD (ONLY WHILE ACCELERATING). NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT EVER CAME ON. AT 88,000 MILES FIGURED THAT NOT ONLY WILL I REPLACE ALL 8 SPARK PLUGS, BUT WOULD REPLACE ALL 8 COIL PACKS AS WELL. UPON REMOVAL ON THE SPARK PLUGS, 1 SPARK PLUG BROKE (SO FAR) LEAVING THE BOTTOM PIECE INSIDE THE HEAD. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AS IT CAN LEAD MANY LIKE MYSELF WITH AN OUTRAGEOUS EXPENSE TO PROPERLY REMOVE THE BROKEN SPARK PLUG AND CAN IN THE LONG RUN DAMAGE THE ALUMINUM HEAD TOO. THEY ARE MOTOR CRAFT PLATINUM (CERAMIC INSIDE) SPARK PLUGS. NAPA SELLS A TOOL TO EXTRACT THE BROKE PLUG OUT. WHY IN THE WORLD THIS IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE ON WITHOUT A RECALL IS BEYOND ME. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THESE ISSUES AND SHOULD HAVE A MASSIVE RECALL FOR THE ANY VEHICLE THAT CONTAINS THESE SPARK PLUGS, LIKE MY 2006 MODEL WITH A 5.3L DOES. I HAVE CALLED FORD AND FILED A FORMER COMPLAINT AND MANY OTHERS NEED TO DO SO AS WELL. I AM ALSO GOING TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB, AS I SPENT A HUGE CHUNK OF CHANGE AND PROPERLY MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE ON A DAILY BASIS. IF MY TRUCK HAS TO GO INTO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THIS PLUG REMOVED, I WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE. I HAVE 4 FORDS TODAY.......NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN THIS COSTLY! I HAVE A 71 BRONCO, 98 EXPLORER, 01 RANGER, AND 06 EXPEDITION. I GUESS THIS WILL DETERMINE IF I WILL STAY AS A FORD OWNER IN THE FUTURE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 79,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COMPRESSOR AND THE AIR CONDITIONING FAILED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPRESSOR WAS LEAKING, CAUSING THE AIR CONDITIONER FROM FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,174 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS ON HWY DOING 55 GETTING READY TO TAKE MY TURN OFF WHEN ENGINE SAFE MODE MESSAGE CAME ON. I THEN REALIZED THAT I HAD NO POWER EVEN THOUGH LIGHTS, RADIO, AND A/C WAS STILL ON. NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE I COASTED THE VEHICLE TO SIDE OF HWY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE, TURNED KEY TO OFF AND THAN BACK ON AND IT STARTED UP. I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEM AND BACK TO WORK. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE A 45 MINUTE DRIVE EVERY NIGHT AND EARLY MORNING TO AND FROM MY WORK WHICH IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND NOT HAVE SUCH A GOOD CIRCUMSTANCE. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OVER SEVERAL YEARS TO FORD ON THIS WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN RECALLED? *JS
MY CUSTOMER CALLED TO INFORM ME THAT HE WAS SMELLING RAW FUEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE ON APRIL 13,2012. I TOLD HIM IT WAS PROBABLY A STUCK INJECTOR. BEING A FORD SENIOR MASTER CERTIFIED AUTO REPAIR TECHNICIAN/ASE MASTER CERTIFIED FOR FORD DEALERSHIPS FOR OVER 14 YEARS I WAS AWARE OF THE INJECTOR CONCERNS WITH THESE VEHICLES. I CHECKED THE ENGINE OIL TO FIND THAT IT WAS OVERFILLED A QUART AND SMELLED OF FUEL. MY DIAGNOSIS WAS CORRECT #2 INJECTOR WAS LEAKING BADLY. I REPLACED #2 INJECTOR AND CHANGED THE OIL,FOUND SMALL SHARDS OF RUST IN THE INJECTOR THAT COULD ONLY HAVE COME FROM THE FUEL RAIL AS THEY WERE TOO LARGE TO HAVE BY-PASSED THE FUEL FILTER. 2005 F SERIESEXPEDITIONS/NAVIGATORS HAD A RECALL ON INJECTORS AND THE 2006-2007 VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE HAD THE RECALL. THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZZARD CAUSING MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE IF IT OCCURS AGAIN.RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THOUSANDS OF FORD EXPEDITION,LICOLN NAVIGATOR AND F-150-250 OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH INJECTORS. I AM ALSO AWARE OF A RECALL THAT WAS ON CERTAIN EXPEDITIONS AND NAVIGATORS FOR A NEW FUEL RAIL THAT WAS RUSTING INTERNALLY CAUSING THE SAME PROBLEMS BUT THE RECALL JUST CLAIMS THAT THE FUEL RAILS WERE "DEFECTIVE".FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS AWARE OF THESE CONCERNS AND REFUSES TO RESOLVE OR HELP ANY OWNERS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES OUTSIDE THE RECALL. IF THESE VEHICLES ARE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO OPERATE WITHOUT BEING PROPERLY REPAIRED EVENTUALLY SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE INJURED OR WORSE. I HAVE WITNESSED ENGINE EXPLOSIONS AND FIRES CAUSED BY LEAKING INJECTORS. THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND SHOULD BE ADRESSED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY.I URGE ANY FORD OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM TO FILE A CLAIM WITH NHTSA AS WELL AS FORD MOTOR COMPANY SO THEY CAN RESOLVE THESE CONCERN BEFORE ANYONE IS HARMED.ALL MY CUSTOMER WANTS IS THE FUEL RAIL AND INJECTORS REPLACED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT PLANNED ON TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ADDRESSING THE FAILURE. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
I BOUGHT MY TRUCK USED FROM A DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY 2012. I HAD DRIVEN IT FOR ABOUT 8 WEEKS WHEN IT COMPLETELY DIED ON ME AT A STOP LIGHT BEFORE TAKE OFF. EVERYTHING WAS ON EXCEPT IT WOULD NOT GO AND THE MESSAGE CAME UP SAYING FAIL SAFE MODE. IT DID IT A COUPLE WEEKS LATER TAKING OFF FROM A STOP SIGN AND THEN AFTER THAT IT SEEMED TO DO IT ONCE A MONTH. THIS LAST TIME ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 26, 2012 IT DID IT WHILE I WAS PULLING OUT OF A STORE INTO THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON WAS NOT IN THE CAR TO WHERE IT WOULD HAVE HURT HIM AS WELL AS OTHERS AND MYSELF. I HAVE READ MANY ARTICLES AND COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER EXPEDITION OWNERS ABOUT THE EXPEDITIONS GOING INTO FAIL SAFE MODE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT THEY DO THIS AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS EVEN MADE COMMENTS ABOUT IT WHEN IT WAS EXAMINED. MY MOTHER WORKS FOR FORD AND SHE HAS SEEN MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THIS. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE HOWEVER THEY WILL NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG UNLESS MULTIPLE PEOPLE ARE INJURED OR EVEN DEAD. IT IS FRUSTRATING TO KNOW I PAID OVER $20,000 ON A VEHICLE THAT I LOVE AND NEED BUT IS NOT SAFE FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY. I HAVE PRICED A THROTTLE BODY WITH MY MOTHER'S DISCOUNT AT WORK AND IT WAS ABOUT $210.00 AFTER TAX AND THE LABOR TO PUT IT IN IS AROUND $450.00. IF FORD WOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM PEOPLE WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY SO MUCH JUST TO BE SAFE IN A VEHICLE THEY SPEND SO MUCH MONEY. THIS IS THE 1ST COMPLAINT ON THIS ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE ENGAGES, THE ENGINE LOSES POWER, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. YOU PULL OVER IF YOU CAN. PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. TURN EVERYTHING OFF. SHUT OFF ENGINE. RESTART AND IF YOU ARE LUCKY, PUT IT IN DRIVE AND CONTINUE ON. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, IF SOMEONE IS TAILGATING YOU AND THIS HAPPENS, THEY COULD REAR END YOUR VEHICLE AND PEOPLE COULD HAVE A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND DIE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES NOW. A WARNING LIGHT "ENGINE FAIL SAFE" FLASHED AND THE ENGINE STALLED. I WAS FORTUNATE THERE WAS A PARKING LOT I COULD FORCE THE VEHICLE INTO, AS I WAS IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN HOUSTON TX, AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. APPARENTLY THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG THE 2006 FORD EXPEDITION, I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON-LINE AND VIEWED MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME THING. I CHECKED WITH ONE AUTO SHOP, WHICH SAYS THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $800.00, THE FORD DEALER/SERVICE DEPT QUOTED 686.85. THEY BOTH TOLD ME THEY EACH HAVE ANOTHER 2006 EXPEDITION IN THEIR SHOP AT THIS TIME FOR THE SAME REPAIR, AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT WITH AN ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN WITH ONLY A HALF SECOND NOTICE. I AM GLAD I WAS NOT ON THE FREEWAY (IN HOUSTON!) DOING 60 MPH. I FIND THIS DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE GIVEN ALL THE SITES REPORTING THIS SAME ISSUE. *TR
