Pre-Collision assist not available warning on dash with wrench. Car would not stop decelerating and braking when cars approached from the rear on interstate. Car was jerking. Was on the road for 150 miles when this occurred. After being parked overnight, has not happened again.
When driving on a highway we went to pass a slower moving vehicle. When pulling out into the oncoming lane to accelerate the automatic transmission slipped into neutral. This situation became dangerous because there was a vehicle coming at us and we had to break to get back behind the slower vehicle. However the transmission did go back into gear causing us to become a hazard to the vehicles behind us. Again this happened on the interstate when accelerating to get on the interstate. This is a known problem by Ford and has been documented many times. Ford claims that since the vehicle is past the warranty period they aren't responsible to repair.
I have started noticing rough shifting, delayed engagement, harsh shifts, and sometimes even slipping between gears. Have taken to the dealership and it is needing a whole new transmission
The passenger side daytime running light has burned out. Daytime running lights are a safety feature for myself and other drivers. The problem happens 100% of the time. The dealership has inspected the issue and suggest replacing the entire headlight assembly. It happened January 2025 and No warning lights came on. It was brought to my attention by another driver in traffic
While driving at approximately 70 mph on an interstate highway, the vehicle intermittently loses propulsion during acceleration. Engine power drops suddenly and the vehicle coasts for several seconds before power returns. This has occurred multiple times and creates an immediate safety hazard due to sudden loss of speed in active traffic lanes. The engine also produces a loud rattle at cold start. These symptoms began at approximately 70,000 miles and progressively worsened. A Ford dealership later diagnosed cam phaser failure at 88,938 miles. The loss of propulsion occurs without warning lights or driver alerts. Sudden reduction in engine power at highway speeds increases the risk of rear-end collision or loss of vehicle control. This condition presents a significant safety concern.
Daytime running light LEDs are failing, has turned purple and is very dim on the passenger side.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while shifting from park(P) to drive(D), there was an abnormal thud coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and a diagnostic test was performed. The vehicle was diagnosed with a defective catalytic converter. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls or warranties on the vehicle. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
While driving lost power, could not drive, exhaust valve failure
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the engine was hard to crank during cold weather. There was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the vehicle. The service engine soon warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the virtual cam timing was not operating as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was not covered under recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 98,034.
See attached document for complaint.
When I am stopped at a light or in traffic and the start/stop technology triggers the car to shut off while waiting, when I take my foot off the brake the engine does not turn back up. My other electrics are still on. A messaged pops up and says auto/startstop shift to P, then restart engine. This has happened multiple times. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times now. They say no error codes come up. They can’t replicate it. The last time the car rolled back and almost hit another car. It causes my car to obstruct traffic. And people start honking.
Catalytic converter has gone bad error code Po430
Vehicle has a rattle upon starting. Also the vehicle is shifting harshly and slipping. Sometimes the vehicle will occasionally stop accelerating in the middle of the road. The RPMs will rise but the vehicle stops having power. After a minute it finally jerks and the vehicle will go again. I have had the vehicle examined by a technician and have been told that it is the cam phasers, CDF drum/transmission, and torque converter.
SIX WEEKS AGO MY TRANSMITION START JUMPING WHEN IT SHIFTED GEARS. THE EXPEDITION ONLY HAS 82, 212 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE RAN A DIAGNOSTICS TEST AND GOT A CODE P2701, WHICH IS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR REBUILT. I TOOK IT TO A SECOND MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING. HE SUGGESTED REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER FIRST TO SEE IF THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM. HAD HIM DO A FULL TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER REPLACEMENT. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IT HAS GOTTEN WORST AND NOW JUMPS AND HESITATES WHEN SHIFTING GEARS ALL THE TIME, WHICH IS DANGEROUS. CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DELIVER AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NOT ANY RECALLS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO UNDER ANY WARRENTIES. THEY ALSO STATED THEY WERE AWARE THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION BUT THERE WAS NOTHING COULD DO WITHOUT A RECALL FROM FORD. THEY SAID THEY COULD REPLACE THE TRANSMISSIN FOR AROUND $8000-$9000 DOLLARS. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND A NUMBER OF VECHICLES WITH THIS TRANSMSSION HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION JUMPING AND HESITATING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND COULD CAUSE A DIFFINITE SAFETY PROBLEM AND EVEN CAUSE A WRECK AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR EVEN DEATH WITH THIS PROBLEM. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL FOR ALL THESE TRANSMITIONS.
The contact's daughter owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, his daughter became aware that the rear window had shattered without impact. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
The vehicle's steering wheel became very loose at ~50k miles making it wobbly and potential to fall off which could cause danger while driving and possibility of airbag deployment. As seen in the attached pictures, there was no thread locker on the bolt that tightens the steering wheel down. I was able to remove it simply with my hands upon a few twist.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that coolant was leaking underneath the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the heater hoses had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.
I was on the freeway going between 65-70mph when I felt a hard shift and lost all acceleration. The truck started to slow down and the wrench light came on. I was able to coast to the shoulder and turn my hazards on while the wrench light and warnings were going. I parked the truck and waited for my husband to help. The truck sat for approximately 20 minutes when it was turned back on. There were no lights on the dash and the wrench warning went away [XXX] husband was able to drive it home. I had my three kids in the truck and it was a terrifying experience. I took it to get scanned and it gave us a throttle body code. My vehicle supposedly isn't affected but this experience tells me that myself and my kids are in more danger than what is being claimed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. Additionally, the manufacturer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
This appears to be a common problem when I researched it online. When trying to accelerate hard, the transmission will suddenly go to neutral instead of shifting. This causes a pause in accelerating when you need. It will then slam in to gear a few seconds later with various warnings about the transmission showing on the dash. I have had the vehicle inspected right after an incident that happened and there are no codes though you have warnings that temporarily show on the dash when it happens. The most recent incident was on the freeway while changing lanes to go around slower traffic and caused the person behind us to have to hit their brakes since the vehicles was unable to accelerate and even slowed instead for several seconds.
My husband was driving and I was in the passenger seat we were driving slow because we were coming to a stop at a red light. All of a sudden we hear a loud sound like a shotgun went off in the car. It felt like something hit my chest hard and like a puff of air. My seat belt all of a sudden was squeezing me. Then it smelled like gun powder. My husband and I were stunned and couldn't understand what had just happened. He thought someone shot at us or something exploded under the car. I was in so much pain I unlocked the seatbelt and I opened my door in the middle of all the traffic stopped and I got out. I felt like I was going to faint. My husband was asking if I was bleeding anywhere. I was looking and saying no but I couldn't understand what just happened. I starting crying and got in the back seat. My husband asked if I wanted to go to the hospital and I said and tell them what! They will think I am crazy. Went to my daughters crying the whole way. She googled and ended up finding a problem with the seat belts. I then started looking as well and came across this man that was on a Ford forum and explained the exact same thing happened to him and his wife. I am so glad we were not going any faster because I don't know how we would have not had an accident. I am now scared of my car and using seatbelts. I called the dealer today and I have an appointment for Monday to get it all looked at. Very disturbing on so many levels.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle was making an abnormal rattling sound on cold starts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the powertrain control module (PCM) was flashed under Ford Campaign Number: 21N03; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be left with the dealer for three weeks for the cam phasers replacement; however, the contact declined because the dealer did not offer vehicle rental assistance. The contact stated that the failure progressively worsened. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the engine misfired. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
With our expedition on numerous occasions the transmission will be acting as normal and then go into a false neutral which will leave the vehicle unable to accelerate or be moved over to safety, it has happened while trying to merge and nearly causing a accident and then on another occasion crossing a non divided highway only to leave me stranded unable to make it move with oncoming traffic, very dangerous situation .. the problem is very hard to replicate for dealers to diagnose
I own 2019 Expedition had a powertrain malfunction happened to me around 48k miles a few years back on the I35 by Pauls Valley, OK and we all most got ran off the road. Scary. Was able to get home which was 30 minutes away on back road going about 35mph. Next morning no, light vehicle was fine. I did report this to my local Ford dealer, Charles Allen Ford in Chickasha, OK. Was advised it was most likely due to condensation within a sensor or weather change. I trusted them on their assessment since it hasn’t happened again. This past Monday coming from sons football game which is 26 miles away it happens again, vehicle stalling and we almost got hit by a Semi truck. I currently have 84k miles Next morning was fine. No codes showing and vehicle ran as usual. I told Jim Allen who owns the Charles Allen Ford about this when I seen Tuesday at the local YMCA. he advised probably weather change within a sensor. Told me to bring it for a check and they would take care of me. I didn’t as I don’t have the money to do that, especially after hearing other stories how the dealership kept the vehicle for weeks to months without finding an issue. So I took to my neighbor owns a diesel mechanic shop so we put on lift and check transmission fluid, clear and no flakes. Check lines although I do have a coolant / water hose leakage, which I order the part for. Ford needs to address this issue. I’m a [XXX] who depends on my vehicle to go to much needed VA appointments in Oklahoma City. Please help. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact stated that while the vehicle was cold and driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle started shuddering abnormally between gears, and the RPM increased, causing the vehicle to lose power. The contact stated that after the hesitation, the vehicle returned to normal operation. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. However, an unknown module was reprogrammed, and the main control body valve was repaired. I am being told that the Cam Phasers need to be replaced. This is a well known issue to Ford. They did a programming adjustment in 2021, and then did replacements only if you had continued issues up until Jan 2023. I have issues now, and they are telling me I am not covered. The cam phasers have been redesigned so they know they installed poorly designed parts originally. This is an almost $4,000 repair.
My expedition was reprogrammed when I bought it due to the Cam phaser rattle. This did not help. I was told this was normal and would not effect the engine. I had taken it in a second time to be reprogrammed an given the same information. My Ford service says fifth cylinder misfire. The car shakes and idles hard. The spark plug and parts were replaced as suggested with no change. Took it to the shop and was told I now need a new engine due to an internal failure of the engine. I called Ford and they said there is no recall on this year. The Cam phaser reprogram was a customer satisfaction and not a recall. I asked if they would offer assistance since now I need a new engine. They will not. I called about ordering a new engine. Iwas was told there is over 250 people waiting for an engine as they are backordered by the Ford service department. It will be $10,000 plus 1200 for the core plus install. There are no availble engine due to the backorder and you must pay for the parts to get on the waitlist. The earliest they will release them is in November. How are there this many people waiting for an engine and no recall? This is a safety issue as all cylinders are not firing and there is not enough compression to make the vehicle run correctly. The check engine light appears solid upon starting the car and then will start blinking. The vehicle was inspected by an independent shop as I took my expedition to Ford for 60,000 service and they put the wrong fluid in my differential and then I had to have this rebuilt by them. After telling them something was wrong multiple times after they gave it back. So I do not trust to take it back to them. The independent shop confirmed this is a problem with these engines. I took it in due to the check engine light and hard idle that was getting worse.
While parking my car in my driveway as I turned the car off I heard a loud explosion in the car. There was some smoke coming out of the passenger side seatbelt area of the frame. I could smile gunpowder. The interior trim piece around the seat belt had come loose. There was a warning sign that had come on that day and I was going to check it out this weekend. I had the dealership come and get the car to check it out. I looked at an article from you that this has happened before and I think it was the seatbelt pretensior. Thanks
The vehicle has the known cam phaser issue commonly reported on 3.5L Ecoboost engines. It is a known problem, that the dealership is so aware of they were able to provide a repair quote on the spot. The engine had less than 50,000 miles when the issue was first discovered. The safety issue is the engine failing while driving could place someone in an unsafe situation depending on how and when it failed.
Vehicle randomly downshifts into first gear and get stuck in higher gears, allowing no acceleration, causing serious traffic accident
ON 9.5.24, THE DRIVER PASSENGER SEATBELT RETRACTOR PRETENSIONERS DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING 15 MPH IN MY RESIDENTAIL HOME STREET. ON 9.6.24 I TOOK THE CAR INTO GAUDING FORD IN LAS VEGAS NV. THEY STATED THE PARTS ARE BACK ORDERED AND THEY CANNOT FIX IT. THEY STATED THEY CAN'T GET THE PARTS AND HAD NO IDEA HOW LONG IT WOULD BE TO GET THE PARTS. IN THE MEANTIME, THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT RELEASE THE CAR BACK TO ME UNLESS I SIGNED A WAIVER STATING I KNOW IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER CAR, AND LOANER CARS ARE NOT COVERED WHEN THERE IS A RECALL.
The car will randomly downshift or not upshift, drastically changing the handeling. It will get stuck in gears (Like 7th) and then not accelerate in traffic from a stop. The shifts are harsh enought that the tires with loose traction in wet conditions... The car is unsafe to drive and the dealer can't find a solution, other than I pay for a new transmission. The problems started with a software update for shifting into 1st gear at speed. This happens too often!
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the transmission experienced hard shifting with the transmission slipping between gears third and fifth gear, causing the vehicle to decelerate. Additionally, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the clutch was faulty, and that the transmission needed to be replaced or rebuilt. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
On three separate occasions, my vehicle lost the ability to accelerate. The first time I was attempting to pass slow moving farm equipment when my vehicle lost power, had a loud vibrating/rattling noise and multiple dashboard warnings flashed. Luckily, I was able to merge back into my lane and pull off the side of the road. I took the vehicle in for service and was told I needed new phasers. Once I got my vehicle back, I was still experiencing issues. Fortunately, the next two times my vehicle lost power I was driving at low speeds. I did have my kids with me on one occasion and it scared them quite a bit. I am not sure what the loud noise is but they stopped riding with me after that. Thank goodness I was not driving my family on the highway when experiencing a power failure. My vehicle is back at a dealership waiting for a new transmission.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the cam phasers. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 73,000.
My Ford Expedition Max started to make a rattling noise after I start the vehicle, if the car was running for a while I could turn it off and on again and wouldnt hear the noise, but if the engine was cold it would make a rattling noise when started. Then if I do not let the SUV warm up long enough and start driving it would have a point where it would do a random hard slow down before it would kick into gear and then it would feel like it was running fine. This started a few weeks ago the I was driving on the highway and while i was doing about 55MPH the suv made a loud noise that made the vehicle change speed dramatically it cause me to be whiplashed forward before the engine seemed to catch back up to its orevious actions, it did not actually cause an accident at that point (but it very well could have if the road was busy as it was a dramatic chnage in speed as well as the noise it made). I pulled over to inspect but there was nothing in the road and nothing that was being done that seemed to cause the traumatic issue. The next day when I brought the car to the mechanic and explained the issue he was able to diagnose an issue with the timing chain. Upopn some resaerch there many complaints and issues with my that make/models particular engine and parts that have had issues but the dealer would not assist saying there is no formal recall and at 69K miles I am over the warrenty. My car doesnot have any codes or warning lights and has all regularly scheduled maintenance and repairs done regularly but the car is clearly not driving correctly, This issue is causing the SUV to dramatically change speed while driving which is likely to cause an accident and severe injury.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The service engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 55,000.
While driving on the highway, and the vehicle tries to downshift, the transmission makes a loud clunking sound and shifts into neutral, causing the vehicle to slow rapidly while driving. Warning lights appear on the dash as this occurs, and the vehicle sits in neutral for 15 to 30 seconds, leaving you without acceleration while stuck on the road. This has happened 3 times in a short amount of time, and has put us and our cars children in an incredibly dangerous situation each time. On the third time, while trying to figure out what happened, we realized this is a known issue that Ford has recalled on other models (F150) but has fought recalling on the Expedition. Both the F150 and the Expedition use the same transmission, and Ford has admitted to a design flaw that causes the shifting issues. We would like to request that Ford be held responsible for the safety issue that affects all vehicles with their 10 speed transmission, not merely just the F150 because it is their most popular model.
cam phasers need to be replaced AGAIN, which is only 2.5 years since the last time they were replaced. had them replaced the first time under warranty. and then 2.5 years later was told they need to be replaced again, and it will cost $4,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. In addition, there was an unknown warning light illuminated, with a message to “Contact the Dealer” displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the previous learning strategy was erased and deleted from the computer system. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
My Variable Valve Timing Actuator is not functioning properly only after 60,000 miles. Jacob's Auto Repair in Sturgis, SD had confirmed the problem. There is already a case for this problem. But my VIN number is not listed in the case and it should be as it fits all criteria. My check engine light is on.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the vehicle while cold starting the vehicle. The contact stated that the sound went away after several minutes. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer for diagnostic testing and to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V099000 (Seat Belts). The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 MPH, the passenger seat belt warning was illuminated. On another occasion, while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, and she occupied the passenger seat she observed a loud noise and smoke in the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and inspected. The contact observed that the seat belt would not retract and the covering near the passenger door frame had detached. The contact sustained chest, neck, shoulder, and face injuries. The contact received medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 112,909.
