TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REACH THE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000. *BF *AS
THE ABS MODULE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A CITY STREET AT ABOUT 20 MPH.
DURING NORMAL OPERATION LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE CRACKED, LOST ALL BRAKE FLUID, MANAGED TO STOP VEHICLE ON IN MEDIAN, HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP, AFTER LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED MECHANIC WAS BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM, DURING THE PROCESS THE MAIN BRAKE LINE LEADING TO THE REAR BRAKE LINES CRACKED AND DEVELOPED A LEAK, LOST ALL BRAKE FLUID AGAIN!FORTUNATELY THIS TIME IT HAPPENED AT SHOP, HAD ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED, ADVISED SHOP TO HOLD ON TO OLD (ORIGINAL) BRAKE LINES. *JB
INTERMITENT - ANTI LOCK BRAKES FAILURE. PEDAL DROPS DOWN AND NOISE (GROWL) OCCURS, FOLLOWED BY VEHICAL PULLING TO ONE SIDE WITH LONG STOPPING DISTANCE. RECENT INCIDENT REQUIRED EXTREME BRAKING AND THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE VEHICLE SLID OUT OF CONTROL.*AK
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES BRAKE PEDAL GOT STUCK. THIS CAUSED THE ABS LIGHT TO APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAIN ON. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND REPLACED IT. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED WHILE TRAVELING, THE BRAKES WERE SMOKING DUE TO OVER HEATING. DEALER HAD BEEN CONTACTED AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO WEAR OUT ONCE A MONTH, THE BRAKES HAD BEEN RESURFACED, ADJUSTED AND REPLACED 5 TIMES. *AK *TT *JB

INSUFFICIENT BRAKING RESULTED IN REAR END COLLISION. 2ND ACCIDENT OF SAME NATURE AFTER FORD SERVICE INSPECTION. INDEPENDENT BRAKE SHOP REPLACED REAR BRAKES AND PROBLEM IS OK. FORD ARGUES THAT BRAKES AND VEHICLE WERE OK. *AK

MASTER CYLINDER TO BRAKE BOOSTER STUD SHEARED OFF PROBABLY DUE TO STRESS CORROSION CRACK AS DETAILED IN NHTSA RECALL # 96V024001. BRAKING SERVICE SEVERELY DIMINISHED AS MASTER CYLINDER DEFLECTS TO ONE SIDE WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. FORD REFUSES TO ASSIST IN REPAIR COST EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN TO THEM.
WE HAVE HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS W/ OUR 93 EXPLORER. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT 93000 MILES AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE ABS LIGHT KEEPS FLICKERING ON AND OFF AND WE ARE NOT SURE WHICH SENSOR IS OUT. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE AN ARM & LEG JUST TO TELL US WHICH SENSOR IT IS. MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE NOT BEEN POSITIVE. THEY CHARGE TOO MUCH FOR SIMPLE TASKS AND I HAVE BEEN LIED TO ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS ABOUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR VEHICLE. IT IDLES ROUGH AND WE HAVE REPLACED ALL OF THE PARTS THE DEALERSHIP HAS SAID WERE BAD AND IT STILL IDLES REAL ROUGH. WE HAVE SPENT MORE ON AUTO REPAIRS THAN WHAT THE VEHICLE IS WORTH. THE AIR CONDITIONER RECENTLY WENT OUT, THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS REPLACED, NOW THEY ARE TELLING US IT IS THE FAN SWITCH - SOMEBODY NEEDS TO GIVE FORD MOTOR COMPANY A SWIFT KICK. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE AS LONG AS I LIVE. IT SEEMS THAT FOREIGN VEHICLES ARE WORTH THE FEW EXTRA BUCKS IN THE LONG RUN. *AK
FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS WEAR ABNORMALLY FAST, I'VE REPLACED THE PADS 5 TIMES IN 100000 MILES OF OPERATION. WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE YOU CAN FEEL THAT MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE BREAKING IS DONE BY THE FRONT BREAKS, I FEEL THAT THE BRAKE DESIGN FOR THIS VEHICLE IS INADAQUATE IT SHOULD HAVE DISC BREAKS INSTALLED IN THE REAR TAKING UP MORE OF THE BRAKING LOAD. *AK
PE00 020; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON HIGHWAY AND HEARD A RUBBLE AND VIBRATION, LEFT FRONT TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. TIRES WERE FIRESTONE #ATX, P23575R15. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE STORE WHERE HE PURCHASED THE TIRE FROM.*AK ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM LOGIC DOES NOT ALLOW/PERMIT BRAKES TO SLOW THE VEHCILE AFTER TIRE FAIURE. THIS IS SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *YH
WHEN DRIVING ANDI APPLYING BRAKES THEY MADE NOISE, AND THERE WAS A LOSS OF TOTAL BRAKING POWER. PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER CHECKED THE BRAKING FLUIDS ALL THE TIMES AND ITS ALWAYS FULL THE CONSUMER HAD TWO RECALLS. THE MILEAGE FOR THE FIRST RECALL WAS 35000, AND VEHICLE LOST BRAKING POWER AT 50000 MILES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, GOING AROUND A CORNER AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THEY LOCKED UP, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SKID, AND CONSUMER HIT A CURB, VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER LANDED ON THE TOP OF THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE, AND THE PAVEMENT WAS WET. *AK
EA96017; INTERMITTENTLY ABS BRAKING SYSTEM LOCKED UP WHILE IN USE WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED A CRASH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
