EXPLORER CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD WE HAD NO IDEA UNTIL WE WERE FLAGGED DOWN. I STOPPED THE CAR AND THE FLAMES WERE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE CAR. THE KIDS AND I JUMPED OUT AND STARTED TO RUN IN FEAR OF IT EXPLODING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME OUT, PUT OUT THE FLAMES AND SAID IT LOOKED LIKE A FAULTY FUEL LINE.
THE CONSUMER'S WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE STREET AND ANOTHER CAR CUT IN FRONT OF HER, RESULTING IN COLLISION, ALSO HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF. THE FUEL SAFETY SHUT-OFF SWITCH DIDN'T TURN OFF. *AK
THE GAS GUAGE FAILED. DEALER SAID IT WAS A "SENDING UNIT" LOCATED ON GAS TANK. COST TO REPAIR $350 LABOR TO REMOVE TANK PLUS COST OF PART. I'M OUT OF WARRANTY BUT A TRUCK WITH UNDER 70,000 (AT THE TIME) SHOULD HAVE A WORKING GAS GUAGE! *AK
