1994 FORD EXPLORER. CABLE HOLDING SPARE TIRE BROKE WHILE DRIVING AND DROPPED THE SPARE TIRE ON TO THE ROAD SURFACE. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE POWER WINDOWS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. *JB
I HAD THE FUEL SYSTEM ON MY 1994 FORD EXPLORER REPLACED BY PEP BOYS IN CRESTWOOD, ILLINOIS. TODAY I LEARNED THAT THEY HAD BOTCHED THE JOB TO THE POINT THAT GASOLINE WAS BEING SPRAYED ONTO THE MANIFOLD OF THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FIRE OR AND EXPLOSION. WHY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN IS SERENDIPITY FOR ME. WHEN I CALLED PEP BOYS THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY DON'T INSPECT THEIR WORK. NEITHER THE TECHNICIAN, THE SUPERVISOR, OR ANY KIND OF QUALITY CONTROL MECHANISM CHECKS FOR DEFECTIVE WORK. SUCH A LACK OF CONTROL, PARTICULARLY WHEN DEALING WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM, REPRESENTS A SUBSTANTIAL THREAT TO ANYONE WHO HAS WORK DONE AT PEP BOYS.*AK
RECALL 97V083000 CONCERNING REMOTE POWER MIRROR SWITCH WAS ISSUED. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. WHILE PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY MIRROR CONTROLS BEGAN TO SMOKE. MOMENTS LATER, FIRE WAS STREAMING FROM THE MIRROR ITSELF, CONSUMING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. *AK
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME DOING 25+ MPH. MY SEAT BELTS DID NOT LOCK UP AND MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MY PASSENGER AND MYSELF WERE BOTH HURT IN THE ACCIDENT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THIS IN OTHER 1994 FORD EXPLORERS.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT DURING CHRISTMAS SHE AND HER CHILDREN WERE TRAVELING WHEN REAR DEFROSTER OVERHEATED. CONSUMER TRIED TO CUT IT OFF, BUT THE SWITCH DID NOT WORK. WHILE SHE WAS TRYING TO SHUT IT OFF REAR WINDOW EXPLODED AND BLEW OUT. *AK *NM
1994 FORD EXPLORER XLT 4 WD THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK HAS DEVELOPED A SEVERE FUEL LEAK,,,NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, WAS A RECALL DONE ON THESE ? *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD POP. THE PADDED SHIELD OF THE SEAT BROKE AND EXPOSED A LARGE SPRING. THE BABY WAS IN THE SEAT AT THE TIME OF THE MALFUNCTION. *NM *NM
DOOR HANDLES ON PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR BROKEN. TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. *AK
CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT EFFORTS WERE BEING MADE TO GET FORD/ FIRESTONE TIRE, AND RUBBER MANUFACTURER'S TO ISSUE REIMBURSEMENTS TO CONSUMERS WHO HAD TO PAY FOR REPLACED TIRES. MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO HONOR NHTSA RECALL # 00T005000. *AK
I ALREADY SENT A LETTER ABOUT THIS TO FORD WITH A CC: TO YOU FOLKS. MY COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THE ACCELORATION CABLE ON MY FORD EXPLORER AND YOU SHOULD HAVE THE LETTER ON FILE FROM NOVEMBER 7TH. FORD DID RESPOND (A MONTH LATER) BUT ARE NOT TAKING ANY ACTION ON IT.
1994 FORD EXPLORER CAUGHT ON FIRE, JUST AFTER WIFE AND BABY GOT OUT OF VEHICLE. IT BURNED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, AND PART OF THE DASH. NHTSA CAMPAIGN #97V083000, I THINK IS RELEVANT, AND RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ACCIDENT. I NOTIFED FORD OVER 3 WEEKS AGO, AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME CONSUMER AFFAIRS WILL CALL, BUT THEY NEVER HAVE YET. *LA
RECALL 03V281000 CONCERNING VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HIGH BACK SEATS. DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR BECAUSE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE.*MR WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE IN HIS REAR VIEW MIRROR. THE CONSUMER PULLED OVER, EXITED THE VEHICLE, LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE ENGINE. A PASSER BY AND A SAFETY CREW ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE BUT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. THE CONSUMER REMOVED PERSONAL BELONGINGS FROM THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT BECAME TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. *PH *NM
WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH DRIVER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND FOUND OUT THAT THE RIMS LOST FOUR OF IT'S FIVE STUDS.*AK
I HAVE A 1994 FORD EXPLORER XLT. WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, I PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT DISENGAGE. THE ENGINE, OR RPM'S, DOES NOT REV UP, BUT AS SOON AS I LET OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR RESUMES SPEED TO THE PREVIOUS SPEED SETTING. THE SPEEDOMETER WAS REPLACED A FEW YEARS AGO, AND NEEDS REPLACING AGAIN, BUT COULD NEW CABLES HAVE BEEN PUT IN, WHICH WOULD BE RELATED TO THE RECALL NO. 03S03? THIS CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM IS CONTINUING. I HAVE TO PRESS THE CRUISE CONTROL "OFF" BUTTON WHEN THERE IS A NEED TO BRAKE.*AK

GASOLINE GUAGE WORKS INTERMITTENTLY OR NOT AT ALL, 4 WHEEL DRIVE DOES NOT WORK, PASSENGER WINDOW IN FRONT SIDE DOES NOT WORK. *AK
ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS, MY EXPLORER HAS STALLED AFTER DRIVING IT FOR AWHILE, IT WOULD RESTART AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR. THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT FIRE.S THERE A RECALL? THE CASE IS HOWARD VS. FORD 763785-2. *AK
THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR INSPECTION TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. CONSUMER NOTICED, AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE THAT IT WAS NOT DRIVING RIGHT. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND PUT VEHICLE IN PARK. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE AND TRIED TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO THE REVERSE. THE SHIFTER WENT PASSED ALL THE GEARS AND WOULD NOT MOVE. *AK
TRUCK HAS BEEN DYING FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. EITHER WHEN IT GET TO HOT OUT SIDE OR IT JUST NEEDS TO TAKE A LITTLE BREAK. THEN WANT START UNTIL IT FEELS LIKE IT SHOULD. WHETHER ITS RUNNING OR WHEN I START IT UP. CHECKED THE FUEL PUMP, CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS,WIRES, BATTERY CABLES, EVERYTHING BUT, IGNITION MODULE. WHICH I'M DOING TOMORROW. *NLM
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY THE LIFTGATE BRACKET BROKE. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
VEHICLE IS 1994 FORD EXPLORER. FOR THE THIRD TIMEIN TWO YEARS, THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE DRIVER SEAT TO THE FLOOR HAS BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. NO ONE WAS INJURED ONLY BECAUSE THE BRACKET FRACTURE WAS NOTED. IF THERE HAD BEEN AN ACCIDENT, THE ENTIRE SEAT WOULD HAVE SEPARATED FROM THE FLOOR AND INJURY WOULD BE LIKELY.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE MIRROR SWITCH CAUGHT FIRE. *TT
WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE SHREDDED. DEALER NOTIFIED SIZE#23575R15 PLEASE PROVIDE THE DOT NUMBER. CRAVEN TIRES SAID THERE WAS A SLOW LEAK CAUSED BY A CUT IN THE TREAD. COOPER TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH NEW TIRES BY FIRESTONE. *AK *CB *JB
SPARE TIRE WAS STORED UNDER THE BODY IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. CONSUMER WAS ABOUT TO CHANGE LEFT REAR FLAT TIRE AND NOTICED THE SPARE TIRE WAS MISSING. THE CABLE FROM WHICH THE TIRE WAS SUPPORTED, WAS DANGLING FREELY WITH NO TIRE. MY SPARE TIRE MUST HAVE FELL OFF THE TRUCK WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT MY NOTICING IT. I LOOKED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND THERE IS NO MENTION OF MAINTAINING THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER. *TT
ON 14 APRIL 2003 I PAID FOR SERVICE ON AN "INTERMITTENT START" PROBLEM; CHECKED THE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM, THE ALTERNATOR, AND TESTED THE BATTERY.PAID FOR LABOR $76.50 AND $79.95 FOR BATTERY ASSY. HERE IT IS 2004 AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED BUT HAS GOTTEN WORSE. PURCHASED TWO NEW ALARM/ENTRY DEVICES (FOBS) ON 29 JUN 04 BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD BY ONE OF THE MECHANICS THAT THE NEW DEVICES SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS BILL CAME TO $211.10. ALREADY PAID $70.65 ON OR ABOUT APRIL 28, 2004 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND TOLD THE REPAIR PART NEEDED COST $210. I WAS UPSET AND ONLY PAID FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. I'M GLAD WE DIDNT PAY FOR THAT PART, BECAUSE EACH SUCCESSIVE TIME, THE SOLUTION TO THE "PROBLEM" HAS BEEN DIFFERENT AND COST ADDITIONAL MONEY. NOTHING THE MECHANICS HAVE DONE HAS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM; ONLY MADE THINGS WORSE AND THE COST HAVE TOTALED $814.67 FOR THIS PROBLEM SO FAR. THE MECHANIC SAID THE VEHICLE NOT STARTING BACK UP AFTER IT HAS BEEN TURNED OFF IS TIED IN TO THE ALARM SYSTEM. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE ANTI THEFT CONTROL MODULE ON 26 JULY 2004, $368.82. NOW THE WIRING IS NOT PERFORMING, AS IT SHOULD!!! VEHICLE IS NOT STARTING AGAIN, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WON'T GO OUT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AFTER IT WAS "FIXED", BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO COMES ON; SEEMS TO HAVE A WIRING/ELECTRICAL PROBLEM NOW. MR. LEE HIGGS, RED TEAM SERVICE MANAGER, HAD THE FUSE TO THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TAKEN OUT SO THE LIGHTS WONT DRAIN THE BATTERY, AT LEAST UNTIL THEY CAN GET IT BACK IN TO BE FIXED "AGAIN". THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THE PROBLEMS ARE INCREASING INSTEAD OF DECREASING. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR AN OPENING IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO PUT THE VEHICLE BACK IN THE SHOP TO GET THIS RESOLVED AGAIN! *AK
I OWN A 1994 FORD EXPLORER AND ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHIN THE LAST 18 MONTHS, SMOKE HAS POURED OUT OF THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM, SMELLING LIKE BURNING LEAVES. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, I HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY GAINESVILLE FORD AND THEY CLEANED OUT LEAVES FROM THE SYSTEM THAT APPARENTLY HAD BEEN SUCKED IN THROUGH THE AIR INTAKE. THEY CLEANED IT, BUT DID NOT FIX THE ROOT CAUSE. NOW, APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS LATER, I HAD THE SAME ISSUE. AGAIN, GAINESVILLE FORD CLEANED DEBRIS OUT OF THE SYSTEM, BUT HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO PREVENT RECURRENCE. I HAVE SPENT APPROXIMATELY $400 ON REPAIRS FOR BOTH OCCASIONS. FORD KNOWS THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, BUT REFUSED TO MAKE ANY ALLOWANCES ON THE REPAIR COST AND WORSE YET, CONTINUE TO TAKE NO ACTION TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN AND AGAIN. I FEEL I WAS LUCKY THAT THE SYSTEM DID NOT ACTUALLY CATCH ON FIRE. MY VEHICLE IS NOT PARKED UNDER TREES AND IS ACTUALLY GARAGE KEPT, SO THIS ISSUE IS ABSOLUTELY A RESULT OF POOR DESIGN AND NOT DUE TO ABUSE OR LACK OF ATTENTION BY THE OWNER. *NLM
I WAS DRIVING ON THE PA TURNPIKE. I GOT OFF AT FORT WASHINGTON EXIT. I PROCEEDED TO FT. WASHINGTON EXPO CENTER. I PULLED INTO A PARKING PLACE AND I HEARD A LOUD POP. I GOT OUT TO FIND MY REAR-PASSENGER SIDE TIRE DEFLATING RAPIDLY. THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE. THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE GROUND AROUND THE TIRE. IT JUST POPPED. *JB
THE DEALER REPLACED ALL FOUR RECALLED TIRES, HOWEVER ONE OF THE NEW TIRES EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION, THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRE, BUT REFUSED TO CHANGE THE OTHER THREE TIRES. *JB

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TIRES WOULD SHAKE. *NLM
1994 FORD EXPLORER - SPARE TIRE DROPPED ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR. TIRE BOUNCED IN AIR 3 - 4 FEET IN FRONT ON VEHICLE FOLLOWING, WHICH SWERVED TO AVOID. CABLE SUPPORTING SPARE TIRE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. TYPICAL UNDER VEHICLE SUPPORT SYSTEM ON PICKUPS AND SUVS.
I HAD MY VEHICLE IN FOR A ROUTINE PA STATE INSPECTION ON FRIDAY. THE SHOP INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS SEVERE TIRE DAMAGE, PERFORATED SIDEWALL, ON ONE OF THE TIRES. THERE IS A SEPARATION AROUND THE ENTIRE INTERIOR SIDEWALL, THE SHOP DOING THE WORK (A TIRE DEALER) TIPPED ME OFF BY SAYING. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FIRESTONE, WHICH WERE GENERALLY OKAY, WITH A TIRE KNOWN TO HAVE PROBLEMS. ABS LIGHT ON. BRAKES FAILED DURING SUDDEN STOP. USING EXCESSIVE COOLANT. PROBLEMS STARTING. *NLM
MY TRUCK JUST SHUT OFF BY THE PARKING TO MY HOME. I CAN'T AFFORD BUY $7,000.00 FOR REPAIR AUTO AT FIRESTONE BECAUSE THEY WANT SO MORE MONEY. THEY DID TOOK OFF BY ITSELF THEN MY TRUCK DIDN'T FINISH AND NEED TO WORK MORE FOR ENGINE MOTOR AND BRAKE. *NLM
WHILE RETURNING FROM CHRISTMAS SHOPPING I DISARMED MY CAR ALARM. WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS OPENED, SMOKE BEGAN EMITTING FROM THE POWER MIRROR SWITCH. USING A SCREWDRIVER, I REMOVED THE ELECTRICAL CONSOLE AND SWUNG THE SCREWDRIVER AT THE FLAMING SWITCH ASSEMBLY UNTIL IT RELEASED. FALLING TO THE GROUND I QUICKLY SMOTHERED THE FIRE AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY UNTIL ALL SMOKE CLEARED.
THE HOOD LATCH FAILED AND THE HOOD OPENED @ 60MPH. THE HOOD IS STILL ATTACHED TO THE CAR BUT THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE CAR. DT
(1) PURCHASE OF A NEW 2002 FORD EXPLORER; (2) DEFECTIVE VEHICLE FROM THE ONSET. ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH SERIOUS "SAFETY" ISSUES. (3) HAVE REPEATED TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THE PROBLEMS HAVE NOT BEEN RECTIFIED. *NM

CONSUMER STATED WHILE ADJUSTING THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT THE "SEAT BACK" BOLT SHEARED OFF AND CAUSED THE SEAT TO COLLAPSE BACKWARD. MR. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB
THERE WAS NO WARNING. MY 1994 FORD EXPLORER CAUGHT ON FIRE AND WAS TOTALLY DAMAGED DUE TO A RECALL ON A MIRROR HARNESS SWITCH. FORD WAS NOTIFIED AND ADMITTED FAULT. THEY AGREED TO SEND ME A CHECK AND CLOSED THE ACCOUNT BEFORE ANYTHING WAS EVER SENT OUT TO ME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WILL STALL. IN DOING SO POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT, AND CONSUMER CAN NO LONGER CONTROL VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE HINGES WEREN'T STRONG ENOUGH FOR DOOR AND OVER TIME THEY WEAKEN AND FAIL. CONSUMER FEELS UNSAFE DRIVING UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. NLM
WHILE BRAKING PEDAL FELT SPONGY AND STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO LEFT, THEN LOCKED UP. VEHICLE IS AT DEALERSHIP AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.*AK
THE FRONT TIRES HAVE SLITS IN THE SIDEWALLS OF THE TIRES. WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WE HAD TEST DROVE IT AND WHEN WE GOT IT ON THE HIGHWAY WE NOTICED A SHAKING IN THE FRONT END. WE TOLD THE DEALER OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK INTO IT. THEY SAID THEY HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED. THE TIRES LOOKED BRAND NEW WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. WE CONTINUED WITH THE PURCHASE AND LATER WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN ON THE HIGHWAY IT DONE THE SAME THING. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THE ONLY TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE WAS WHEN YOU WERE DRIVING BETWEEN 55 AND 65 MPH OTHER THAN THAT IT DROVE FINE. THEN MY DRIVER SIDE TIRE DEVELOPED A LEAK THAT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE UNTIL I WOULD HAVE TO PUT AIR IN IT EVERY DAY. MY HUSBAND PUT SOME OTHER TIRES ON AND WHEN THE TIRES WERE REMOVED ONE OF THEM HAD 6 WEIGHTS ON IT. THE 2 FRONT TIRES BOTH HAD LARGE CRACKS. ONCE THE NEWER TIRES WERE PUT ON THE SHAKING ON THE HIGHWAY HAS STOPPED. I SEE SO MUCH ABOUT THE BAD TIRES ON THE FORD EXPLORER, THAT IT LEADS ME TO WONDER, IS IT THE TIRES OR IS IT THE EXPLORER? I DO NOT SEE HOW THERE COULD BE SO MANY DIFFERENT TIRES THAT WOULD HAVE DEFECTS. I AM LEAD TO BELIEVE THE PROBLEM LIES WITH FORD AND NOT WITH FIRESTONE OR THE OTHER TIRE COMPANIES WHO HAVE PAID TO REPLACE THESE TIRES. TREAD SEPARATION ON REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE AT 75 MPH.*AK THE TREAD OF THE TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND WRAPPED AROUND THE AXLE, LOCKING THE REAR WHEELS AND CAUSED CONSUMERS VEHICLE TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL. THE TIRES HAD BEEN CHECKED TWENTY MINUTES PRIOR TO DEPARTURE FOR PROPER PRESSURE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE TREADS WERE FINE. CONSUMER TRIED TALKING TO FIRESTONE/BRIDGESTONE DEALER. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO CONSUMER THAT THE PARTICULAR TIRE WAS MADE EXCLUSIVELY FOR SEARS AND THEY COULD NOT DEAL WITH IT. *JG
