VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR CHECK UP. THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE CRACKED CAUSING FAILURE. HAD THEM REPLACED. *AK
THE SPEED CONTROL INCREASES ON ITS OWN WHILE IN MOTION. THE SPEEDOMETER ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE SPEED INCREASES AND CONSUMER CANNOT CONTROL IT, CONSUMER HAS TO PUT ALL HER WEIGHT ON THE BRAKES. IF CONSUMER LETS OFF THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE JUMPS FORWARD. THE ENGINE RACES EVEN WHEN CONSUMER IS ABLE TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK. *JG
OD LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AT APPROX. 41,600 MI. WAS TOLD BY DEALER LISTED ABOVE THAT FAULT CODES INDICATED INTERNAL FAILURE AND BEST ADVICE WAS TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION - REPLACE TRANS AT 41,600 !!!!!! VEHICLE PURCHASED FROM PRIVATE PARTY, GREAT SERVICE RECORDS PROVIED INCLUDING TRANSMISSION SERVICE AT 41,158 BY JACKSON FORD MERCURY IN JACKSON, CA.
ALREADY HAVING PROBLEMS WHEN PURCHASED, CAR PULLED RIGHT,ROTATE TO BACK FIXED PULL. *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED VEHICLE SHIMMIES AND SHAKES. IT IS NOTICED MORE AT LOW SPEEDS. ALSO, WHEN IT'S WINDY OUTSIDE CONSUMER DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. *AK
WHEN TRYING TO BUCKLE THE SEAT BELT IT TAKES THREE OR FOUR TIMES TO GET THE SEAT BELT TO WORK. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE SEAT BELT WILL COME OFF WITHOUT ANYTHING TOUCHING THE SEAT BELT. *AK
BOTH INTERIOR REAR DOOR HANDLES FAILED WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF EACH OTHER. FAILURE OF THE DOOR HANDLE PREVENTED EGRESS FROM THE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT SOMEONE OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. LOCAL FORD PARTS DEPARTMENT VERIFIED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS FAILURES OF THESE PARTS BUT INDICATED THERE IS NO TSB OR RECALL.
THE DEALER TRIED TO SELL ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR $1500.00. I DID NOT WANT IT. LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AND 3000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED...THE COST TO REPAIR IT IS $1400.00. TO ME, THIS SEEMS ODDLY COINCIDENTAL. I HAVE TRIED TO FIND ANY MANUFACTURERS DEFECTS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MATTER.
ORIGINAL REPLACEMENT OF RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY IN JUNE 1997 BY DEALER, REPEAT PROBLEM IN NOVEMBER 1998, FAILURE OF REPLACEMENT PART. FLUID LEAKING FROM FRONT PASSENGER-SIDE ASSEMBLY, WITH ATTENDANT DETERIORATION IN STEERING ABILITY AS FLUID LEVEL FALLS.
NO SUMMARY.
THROTTLE BINDS ON INITIAL TAKE OFF CAUSING ABRUBT ACCELLERATION. DUE TO THROTTLE BODY VALVE STICKING. NEWSGROUP AUTOS.MAKERS.FORD.EXPLORER HAS CONFIRMED NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS.
WHENEVER TURNING VEHICLE TO RIGHT, THE SWAY BAR WOULD MAKE CLUNKING NOISE. VEHICLE WOULD SWAY BACK & FORTH. TOOK TO DEALER AND HAD IT ROAD TESTED. PUT ON RACK & NOTICE PROBLEMS WITH SWAY BAR & HAD IT REPAIRED. *AK *ML
COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE O/D LIGHT STARTED FLASHING ALONG WITH LARGE
LEFT SIDE SWAY BAR BROKE CAUSING STEERING PROBLEMS. NLM
O/D OFF LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF FOR MONTHS. FORD WOULD NOT ADMIT A PROBLEM TILL IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. RPM'S WOULD GO UP DRAMATICALLY FOR A FEW SECONDS WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. ABS SENSOR WENT BAD CAUSING UNEXPECTED AND LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES AT LESS THAN 20 MPH. THJE ABS BRAKES WOULD KICK INON DRY PAVEMENT AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN TURNING AND BRAKING AT THE SAME TIME. ALMOST CAUSED A COUPLE CRASHES.
WILDERNESS HT BRAND BLEW AT 65 MPH ON EXPRESSWAY. I KEEP THE AIR PRESSURE AT NORMAL. NO RUBBER LEFT, NO NAILS FOUND, WAS RIDING ON THE RIM. REPORTED IT TO FIRESTONE DEALER. I HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE, TOOK OUT ANOTHER WARRANTY BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIND THE FIRST RECEIPT AND FIRESTONE DOES NOT KEEP THE WARRANTY INFO IN THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM. HOW CONVENIENT. I HAVE HAD CONTINUAL PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT TIRES AND NEED CONSTANT ALIGNMENT. FIRESTONE SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM TWICE, BUT I BELIEVE IT IS THE TIRES. THE HT BRAND IS JUST AS UNSAFE AS THE AT AND ATX. THE SUV DRIVES LIKE IT IS ALWAYS WINDY OUTSIDE AND THE TRUCK FEELS LIKE IT IS HARD TO CONTROL. THE RECALL NEEDS TO INCLUDE THE HT BRAND.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 23575R15 )
EQUIPPED WITH TOWING PACKAGE AND WITHOUT EVER HAVING TOWED A TRAILER OR HEAVY USAGE/WEIGHT IN THE REAR, THE REAR SPRINGS ARE SAGGING, CAUSING FRONT LIGHTS TO RISE AND IRRITATE OTHER DRIVERS AND EXCESSIVE WEAR ON TIRES. *AK

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS INLUDE DOORS UNLOCKING SPONTANEOUSLY, WINDOWS ROLLING UP AND DOWN WITHOUT PRESSING BUTTONS, GAS LIGHT COMES ON WHEN GAS TANK WAS JUST FILLED, OIL LIGHT COMING ON WHEN OIL IS FULL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON FOR NO REASON.
TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED.
THE TREAD ON THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SEPARATED AND THE VEHICLE WENT OFF THE ROAD AND ROLLED 4 OR 5 TIMES. I WAS INJURED WITH BRUSES, SCRATCHES,AND GLASS CUTS IN MY FACE. I HAVE CONTACTED NORMA DAVIS AT FIRESTONE (800-543-7522),BUT SHE STATED THAT I NEEDED THE TIRE FOR HER TO HELP. I HAVE SINCE HAD THE VEHICLE REPOCESSED, BECAUSE MY INSURANCE(NATIONWIDE INSURANCE CO.)CHOSE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR $10000. AFTER MONTHS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP, I WAS TOLD THAT NATIONWIDE WOULD NO LONGER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS CAUSED BY MY ACCIDENT. ACCELERATOR PEDAL SPOT WELDS, WHICH ATTACH THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE, CAME LOOSE.
GAS PEDAL ASSEMBLY DETACHED FROM VEHICLE AT FULCRUM DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF VEHICLE.
REAR WINDOW IN THE SUV EXPLODED BECAUSE OF THE HEAT. THE DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE WINDOW IS BEING REPLACED. *AK *SLC

WHILE DRIVING THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE, THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL TIRES REPLACED BUT WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT TIRES WERE PURCHASED PRIOR TO THE CUT OFF DATE (FIRESTONE RADIAL ATX, P235/75R15 DOT#W2HL-1PM-105). NLM
THE TIRES BEGAN TO SEPARATED WHICH CAUSED SEVERE VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES AND REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT (FIRESTONE). NLM
HAVE HAD EXTENSIVE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION THREE TIMES. *AK
WHLE DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HIGHWAY VEHICLE SUDDENL ACCELERATED AT APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH. DRIVER HAD FOOT ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. HAD TO GET TO ROAD SIDE AND CUT VEHICLE OFF. *AK
NOISE IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS SAID TO BE OKAY BY THE DEALER DESPITE THE INTERIOR WARNING LIGHT. LATER, THE OWNERS WIFE EXPERIENCED AN EXTENDED DOWNSHIFT WITH THE RPMS REACHING CRITICAL LEVELS WITHOUT ANY ACCELERATION. VEHICLE WAS MANUEVERED OFF THE ROAD WHER IT WOULD NOT MOVE. DEALER TOWED VEHICLE AND INFORMED OWNER HE WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION.
PEOO 020; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 70MPH ON FREEWAYAND THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM VEHICLE. HE LOST CONTROL, VEHICLE ROLLED TWICE ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. RIGHT TIRE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE WHEELS. THERE WERE SIX INJURIES, AND EVERYONE INSIDE OF VEHICLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. TIRE SIZE #P235/75R15/105FM+S, AND #DOT W2HL 1PM 105. FIRESTONE COMPANY IN OHIO HAS EVALUATED THIS TIRE LAST YEAR, AND THEY WERE AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK
THEY REPLACED TRANSMISSION 9/98, 2/99 I'M TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION, MY VEHICLE REPEATEDLY LOSES POWER WHEN DRIVING, I'VE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT THE CLICKING NOISE IN MY ENGINE IS A FORD DEFECT , BUT FORD TELLS ME I'M NOT COVERED BECAUSE I DIDN'T PURCHASE A WARRENTY. A 95 FORD EXPLORER W/48000MILES SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. I ALSO HAVE A 91 AND 93 EXPLORERS, A 73 FORD RANCHERO(WITH ORIGINAL ENGINE & TRANSMISSION) AND 83 FORD CONVERSION VAN AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS. THIS SITUATION HAS REALLY DISCOURAGED ME FROM EVER BUYING ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT. *AK
BOLT ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE AND THE SEAT COLLAPSED AND WENT TO THE BACKSEAT OF THE CAR. DEALER CONTACTED AND HAS NOT RESPONDED TO THE CALL. *AK
THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE TREAD SEPARATED WHILE DRIVING, ON ANOTHER OCCASION THE THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ENDED UP IN A GRASSY MEDIAN, IN JULY OF 2000 PRIOR TO THE RECALL 00T005, CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE TWO MORE TIRES DUE TO BAD BELTS,CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR FAULTY TIRES (FIRESTONE WILDERNESS ATX, P235/75R15). DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW IMPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY COVERING THE DRIVER AND INTERIOR WITH GLASS.
DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR HANDLE, INTERNAL MECHANISM, BROKE AND FAILED TO OPEN DOOR. FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR HANDLE HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED.
WHILE DRIVING THE TREAD OF THE TIRE BEGAN SEPARATING FROM BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR TIRES, THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES PRIOR TO RECALL 005-00T AND REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT (FIRESTONE). NLM
REAR WINDOW EXPLODED WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, REASON UNKNOWN. NOTHING HAS TOUCHED THE WINDOW WHEN THIS OCCURRED. .DEALER/MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT REPAIRS WOULD ONLY BE DONE AT CONSUMER'S COST. *AK
WHILE DRIVING BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING BRAKE PEDAL TO TRAVEL TO THE FLOOR AND NO BRAKING ABILITY, WHICH MAY HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH. HAPPENED TWICE, SECOND TIME ON MAY WITH 53,000. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION AND VIN#. *AK
OVERDRIVE LIGHT WILL START TO BLINK, AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT PROPERLY, IT WILL KEEP SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR, EVENTUALLY RESULTING IN FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE WITH THE SAME LIGHT DUTY DESIGN TRANSMISSION, BUT DEFECT KEEPS OCCURRING. *AK *ML
VEHICLE EXHIBITED HESITATION WHILE SHIFTING, THEN, THE PICK UP WAS SLOW. SIX MONTHS AGO CONSUMER HEARD A CLANKING SOUND AT SLOW SPEED. CURRENTLY, THERE WAS DELAY WHEN SHIFTING TO DRIVE AND REVERSE. ALSO, INTERMITTENTLY VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT WHILE DRIVING. MECHANIC STATED TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 30 TO 40 MPH WHEN WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION IN WHICH NEITHER DRIVERS NOR PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, CAUSING INJURIES TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OCCUPANT. ALSO THERE IS OVER 4000 DOLLARS OF DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED AND LOCKED FOR 30 HOURS PRIOR TO FIRE. FIRE APPEARS TO HAVE SPONTANEOUSLY IGNITED IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH AREA OF THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AND DIMMER CONTROL FOR THE INTERIOR LIGHTS.
CHILD PROOF LOCKS ON BOTH REAR PASSENGER DOORS HAVE BROKEN, CAUSING THE DOORS TO BECOME INOPERABLE FOR EXITING THE VEHICLE. *AK CONSUMER STATES THE CHILD LOCKS WERE NEVER USED, CONSUMER STATES THAT BOTH REAR LOCKS FAILED WITHIN ONE WEEK OF EACH OTHER. *SLC
