I PUT ON THE BRAKES WHEN I REALIZED I WAS GOING TO REAR-END THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED THE AIRBAGS AND SAFETY BELT RESTRAINTS FAILED, LEAVING ME HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL AND MY HEAD HITTING THE WINDSHIELD.*AK
I REARENDED SOMEONE AFTER TRYING TO STOP AND MY SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK IN, NOR DID THE AIRBAGS GO OFF. I ENDED UP WITH BRUISED RIBS AND HEART.*AK
THOUGHT THE GUY IN FRONT OF ME WAS GOING TO GO THROUGH A YELLOW LIGHT, SO I FIGURED I WOULD FOLLOW IN SUIT. THEN HE JUST SUDDENLY STOPPED, WITH ME HITTING HIM DIRECTLY IN THE REAREND. MY SEATBELTS DID NOT DEPLOY, AS MY HEAD HIT AND BROKE THE WINDSHIELD, AND OBVIOUSLY THE AIRBAG DID NOT GO OFF. SUFFERING CHEST BRUISING AND TROUBLE BREATHING.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 35MPH APPLIED BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO STOPPING POWER. PUMPED BRAKES A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND BRAKES AUTOMATICALLY STARTED WORKING PROPERLY. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK CONSUMER STATED THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED.*SLC
CONSUMER STATED THE OVERDRIVE OFF INDICATOR LIGHT LOCATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FLASHED STEADILY, THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN BRAKING ROUGHLY INCLUDING A SLIGHT GRINDING SOUND DURING BRAKING, CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION, STATING THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE TRANSMISSION DEFECTS.*JB
CONSUMER CONTACTED MECHANIC FOR GRINDING NOISES IN ABS BRAKING SYSTEM. BUT WAS INFORMED THAT FRONT ABS BRAKE PISTONS AND CALIPERS WERE MADE OF PLASTIC. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, RESULTING IN INCORRECT MILES. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED.*AK *SLC
THE SPRING IN THE SEAT BELT RELEASE BUTTON DOES NOT WORK. THERE IS NO TENSION OR RESISTANCE ON THE BUTTON. THE BUTTON FLOPS UP AND DOWN IN THE BUCKLE. THE SEAT BELT WILL NOT STAY FASTENED IN THE BUCKLE. THE SEAT BELT TONGUE DOES NOT CATCH AND REMAIN FASTENED IN THE BUCKLE.
I RETAINED THE OLD PART FOR YOUR INSPECTION. I ALSO HAVE PHOTOS OF THE PART I EMAIL YOU. WHEN THIS NON-SERVICABLE PART BROKE, RAW EXHAUST BLEW THROUGH THE FIREWALL AND GASSED US OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THERE IS A POTENTIAL CARBON MONOXIDE HAZARD. *AK
ON 12/20/01, I TRIED TO GO INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE. AUTO 4WD LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON. DRIVING IT RESULTED IN NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE: GROANS, LOUD CLUNKS, SEVERE VIBRATIONS, AND DIFFICULTY STEERING THE VEHICLE. NEXT BOTH 4WD LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING. ON 12/24/01, I TOOK CAR TO DEALER. ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED, WHICH THEY SAID WAS A PROBLEM IN THESE CARS. CHARGE WAS $441.77. I NOTICED SAME PROBLEM. BACK TO SHOP ON 12/26/01. AFTER 2 DAYS WORK PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS WATER GETTING INTO THE TRANSFER CASE, CONTAMINATING CLUTCHES, CAUSING THEM TO STICK AND GRAB. FIX WAS TO DRAIN AND REFILL THE CASE. COST $205.45. HE SAID THERE WAS A VENT BUT THIS WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED FOR THIS PROBLEM TO OCCUR. PROBLEM IS LESS BUT STILL PRESENT. LATER, ALL THE WHILE STILL NOTICING THE VIBRATION, I NOTICED THAT BOTH LIGHTS WOULD BEGIN TO FLASH.THE NHTSA SITE PROVIDED SEVERAL TSB'S THAT SEEM TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEMS: SB# 97314, DATED 02/97; SB# BC0206970201, DATED 01/97; SB# BC1011297020, DATED 01/97. ALL DEAL WITH THE TRANSFER CASE BINDING OR SHUDDERING. ALSO TWO TSB'S RECOMMENDING THE USE OF A REVISED VENT TUBE TO PREVENT WATER GETTING INTO THE TRANSFER CASE: SB# BC0133970201, DATED 01/97; AND SB# BC1012797020, DATED 01/97. DEALER WAS UNAWARE OF THIS PROCEDURE AND DID NOT SUGGEST DOING IT ON MY VEHICLE.I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH AUTO 4WD. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED A SPEED SENSOR, ELIMINATING THE FLASHING LIGHTS. BILL IS NOW $700 AND NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM, KNOWN SINCE 1997. NOBODY BOTHERED TO TELL ME TO HAVE MY TRANSFER CASE FLUID CHECKED OR THE VENT TUBE CHANGED. DEALER EVEN TOLD ME THAT THEY NORMALLY WOULD NOT CHECK FOR THIS AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT UPON MYSELF. SINCE THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE DUE TO AN INHERENT DESIGN FLAW AND HAS BEEN KNOWN BY FORD SINCE 1997, WITHIN MY WARRANTY PERIOD, I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ASKED FOR PROBLEM BE FIXED WITHOUT COST TO ME. THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AND THE REPAIRS BUT REFUSED TO HELP SINCE ITS OUT OF WARRANTY. *AK
ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND MOUNTING BRACKET BROKE OFF OF THE FIREWALL UNDER THE DASH BOARD AND STUCK IN THE ACCELERATED POSITION CAUSING EXCESSIVE SPEED AND LOST OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE METAL BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE ACCELERATOR ROD AND PEDAL BROKE OFF THE FIREWALL. WELD BROKE, THE BRACKET IN QUESTION HAS HOLES DRILLED INTO IT AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM A DIAMETER OF ABOUT 7/16" BUT BOLTS AND NUTS ARE MISSING. OWNER RESECURED THIS BRACKET BY DRILLING THRU THE FIREWALL AND SECURED THE SAME WITH TWO BOLTS, TWO NUTS AND TWO WASHER. THIS PROBLEM ALSO AFFECTED MY 1996 EXPLORER.
NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO RELEASE THE BELT BUCKLE FROM THE LOCKING HOUSING MECHANISM FAILED AND THE FABRIC PORTION OF THE SEATBELT HAD TO BE CUT OFF, LEAVING THE BUCKLE IN THE LOCKING MECHANISM. *AK
ORIGINAL FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE FAILS TO LATCH. REPLACED WITH FORD PART NO. F57Z-7861203-C.*AK
STEERING WHEEL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LOCK UP DURING OPERATION OF VEHICLE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED. STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP WHILE TRAVELING FIVE MPH, AND TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY OR WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGH SPEEDS. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE, AND DETERMINED THAT A "BOOT" AROUND A JOINT IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAD DETERIORATED FROM EXPOSURE TO SAND. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION.*AK
NHTSA RECALL 00V402000. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER FOR REMEDY, BUT WAS UNABLE TO HAVE WORK COMPLETED FOR LACK OF PARTS. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING IN WET CONDITIONS AT 45MPH CONSUMER LOST CONTROL, VEHICLE WENT INTO A SKID, RESULTING IN MINOR INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMTATION. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, VEHICLE LOSES POWER, CONSUMER STATES ITS LIKE SHE TAKES HER FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND BY THE TIME SHE PULLS OVER, THE VEHICLE RUNS LIKE NORMAL, NOONE CAN DETERMINE THE CAUSE. *SLC

O/D LIGHT STARTS FLASHING. VERY COMMEN ON 94-96 FORD EXPLORER TRANSMISSIONS. MUST REPLACE TRANSMISSION. SHOULD BE RECALLED. MINE HAPPED AT 55,000. HAD A NEW ONE INSTALLED BY FORD, HAPPENED AGAIN 20,000 MILES LATER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH TRANSMISSION QUIT WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.*AK
SAFETY DEFECT. ENGINE STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES AFTER STARTING IN HOT WEATHER. STALLED IN MOVING TRAFFIC. SAME PROBLEM PREVIOUS SUMMER. JUL 31, 2001 DEALERSHIP REPLACED VALVE ASSEMBLY-IDLE AIR CONTROL, VALUE ASY-THROTTLE AIR BY-PASS FOR $230. PREVIOUSLY PAID $590 FOR SAME SYMPTOM AND NOT FIXED. *AK
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ACROSS BRIDGE AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH WHEN SMOKE APPEARED FROM CONSOLE. THERE WAS NO EMERGENCY LANE TO PULL OVER. CONSUMER HAD TO KEEP GOING UNTIL OFF THE BRIDGE. VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AT CONSOLE. KEY BURNED UP IN IGNITION. VEHICLE HAD POWER LOCKS WHICH CAUSED CONSUMER, AND 5 YEAR OLD CHILD TO HAVE TO CLIMB OUT OF WINDOW.CONSUMER HAD TO JERK SEVERAL TIMES ON SEAT TO GET THE CHILD OUT. FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED IT WAS CAUSED BY ELECTRICAL FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS VERY CONCERNED. BUT IF NO LIVES WERE TAKEN , IT WASN'T MUCH THAAT COULD BE DONE.*AK
TWO GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES (SIZE: LT235/75R15, DOT#: T300863GRF-92W) ON 1995, FORD, EXPLORER HAVE EXPERIENCED SIDEWALL PROBLEMS. LEFT FRONT TIRE HAS A TWO SQUARE INCH SECTION THAT HAS STARTED TEARING OFF OF THE SIDEWALL WITH APPROXIMATELY 25,000 MILES ON THE TIRE. ALSO, LEFT REAR TIRES SIDEWALL IS BEGINNING TO SPLIT WITH 25 TO 30,000 MILES ON THE TIRE. THESE TIRES ARE NOT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT FOR THIS VEHICLE.*AK *SLC

BOUGHT VEHICLE FROM MY PARENTS. TIRES WERE NEW TIRES DUE TO FORD/FIRESTONE RECALL. A SECOND TIRE IS NOW EXHIBITING A BELT SHIFT CONDITION. SYMPTOM IS A SPEED RELATED TIRE NOISE SIMILAR TO A FLAT SPOT ON THE TIRE BUT NO VIBRATION OR BUMP IS FELT. FIRST REPLACEMENT PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE BY DEALER. SECOND FAILURE TO BE LOOKED AT BY GOODYEAR RETAILER DUE TO DISTANCE TO FORD DEALER. GOODYEAR RETAILER HAS ADVISED OF A PRORATED CHARGE DUE TO WEAR ON TIRES. MR
HIGH-MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT FOUND INOPERABLE DURING NC SAFETY INSPECTION. ESTIMATE OF REPLACEMENT IS OVER $350.00. THIS SEEMS LIKE A PART THAT SHOULD HAVE A LONGER LIFETIME GIVEN THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. ARE THERE ANY MANUFACTURER REIMBURSEMENTS AVAILABLE FOR REPLACEMENT?*AK
BOTH WHEEL BEARING ON THE FRONT HAVE FAILED SINCE OWNERSHIP. CANNOT FIND RECEIPT AT THIS TIME FOR SPECIFICS BUT I WILL FIND THEM OR RETRIEVE COPIES FROM THE GARAGE THAT PERFORMED THE WORK. *AK

ON SERERAL OCCASIONS THE ENGINE HAS EITHER STOPPED RUNNING OR RUN VERTY ROUGH, SUCH THAT IT CAN ONLY BE KEPT RUNNING BY STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR. IT USUALLY OCCURS AFTER STOPPING FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN RESTARTING. THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE.

CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE AIRBAGS DID NOT EXPERIENCE DEPLOYMENT AND THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT LOCK, CONSUMER STATES THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN FIXED, HOWEVER THE SEAT BELTS STILL DO NOT LOCK IN PLACE, CONSUMER WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT. *SLC
THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE VEHICLE UNDISCLOSED TRANSMISSION PROBLEM CAUSED THE CLUTCH CYLINDER, SLAVE CYLINDER, MASTER CYLINDER AND PRESSURE PLATE TO FAIL MULTIPLY TIMES. *NM THE CLUTCH AND SLAVE CYLINDER WAS REPLACED FOUR TIMES, THE MASTERCYLINDER WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES, AND THE PRESSURE PLATE HAD GONE FLAT TWICE DUE TO LEAKING. THE TRANSMISSION WAS HARD TO SHIFT INTO LOW GEARS WHILE IN MOTION INTERMITTENTLY MOSTLY IN FIRST AND SECOND. *SC
RECALL 00V402000/ STABILIZER BAR LINK STUD; HAD MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 25 JANUARY, 2001 ON 2 JANUARY 2001, AT 6 PM. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED RECALL WAS NOT DONE DUE TO NO PARTS. LEFT VEHICLE UNTIL JANUARY 26, 2001, STILL NO PARTS. DEALER THEN TOLD CONSUMER SHE COULD LEAVE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK IN CASE PARTS CAME IN. SHE THEN CALLED FORD COMPANY WHERE SHE WAS TOLD THAT SHE WOULD JUST HAVE TO WAIT. *AK
