WHILE DRIVING THE FRONT WHEELS MAKE AN HIGH PITCH NOISE THAT GETS LOUDER THE FASTER CONSUMER DRIVES THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
ACCELERATION PROBLEM EXPERIENCED WITH 1998 FORD EXPLORER LTD WITH SOHC V6 ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM,AND THEY SAID THEY IDENTIFIED IT TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY. FORD REPLIED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF AN ACCELERATION PROBLEM AND WERE WORKING ON IT. KOKOMO AUTO WORD ADVISED ME TO MAINTAIN A HISTORY OF EVENTS WHILE AWAITING FURTHER INFORMATION FROM FMC. THIS HISTORY WAS STARTED AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE SHOP THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER WORKED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, EVEN AFTER OBTAINING TWO "RED BOX" RECORDINGS. ONE RECORDING WAS "CAPTURED" BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL AFTER THEY HAD KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK. THE OTHER WAS WHEN THEY PUT THE "RED BOX" IN THE VEHICLE FOR ME TO TRY AND "CAPTURE" AN EVENT, WHICH I WAS ABLE TO DO. AFTER THEY READ THE "CAPTURE" I HAD MADE, THE SERVICE MANAGER INSINUATED THAT IT WAS MY DRIVING STYLE THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM, I.E STEPPING ONTHE BRAKE AFTER OR DURING ACCELERATION. WHEN I REMINDED THEM THEY HAD ALSO MANAGED TO RECORD AN EVENT, NO MORE WAS SAID ABOUT MY DRIVING STYLE. THE DEALER REQUESTED I USE A SPECIFIC BRAND OF GASOLINE, WHICH I DID, TO DETERMIN IF THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED EIGHTEEN TIMES SINCE DEC. 23, 1998. *AK
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES INTERMITTENTLY.
STALLING/HESITATION UPON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP OR LOW SPEED. OCCURS AT INTERSECTIONS AND MAKING TURNS. VEHICLE LOSES POWER MOMENTARILY THEN KICKS BACK IN.
WHEN HEAVY WIND OCCURS IT IS DIFFICULT TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE RACK AND PINION STEERING MALFUNCTIONING. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
ENGINE STALLS. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THE ENGINE RPMS WILL DROP TO "0". THE ENGINE WILL RESTART ON ITS OWN. THE STALLING IS FOR ONLY A MOMENT. I HAVE REPORTED THS PROBLEM TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER PUT A "FLIG
ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS IN IDLE POSITION. THIS REQUIRES USE OF GREATER FORCE TO START MOVEMENT, CAUSING VECHILE TO LURCH FORWARD/REVERSE. *AK
WHILE DROPPING OFF MY VEHICLE FOR PROBLEMS WITH A REAR WIPER, THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE CRUISE CONTROL FOR MY TRUCK. I CALLED FORD, AND THEY SAID THE INFORMATION WAS SENT OUT IN A LETTER YESTERDAY. WHEN I CALLED THE FORD CONSUMER LINE I WAS TOLD THEY HAD NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO READ AS OF YET. I SHOULD WAIT UNTIL I RECEIVE THE LETTER. IT SEEMS LIKE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT. THE CRUISE CONTROL CAN FORCE THE CAR TO STAY AT THE SAME SPEED. FORD DOES NOT HAVE THE CABLE READY TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNTIL AT LEAST MAY 1999. *AK
VIBRATION IN DRIVETRAIN. MOST PRONOUNCED WHEN ACCELERATING ON UPHILL GRADE. OCCURS AT AROUND 35 MPH. NOT RELATED TO TIRES OR WHEELS, ALL HAVE BEEN REPLACED.

CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 20 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY A STOP WAS REQUIRED ,AND CONSUMER STRUCK VEHICLE IN FRONT DUE TO FAILURE OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM DID NOT RESPOND PROPERLY. DEALER HAS BEE CONTACTED. *AK

VEHICLE STALLS, LOSES POWER WHEN ACCELERATING FROM FULL STOP, ESPECIALLY WHEN HOT. 5 TIMES AT DEALER W/ NO SOLUTION. DEALER COMPUTER INDICATES NOTHING WRONG. LOSS OF POWER COULD RESULT IN COLLISION IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *AK
RECEIVED RECALL LETTER 99V164000, CONCERNING HOOD LATCH. CONTACTED DEALER NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK.ET.
AFTER DRIVING FOR 3HOURS AND PULLING OVER TO REST, VEHICLE SHUT OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START BACK UP EVEN AFTER WATING 2HRS. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
VEHICLE SHUTS ITSELF OFF WHILE TRAVELING. ONCE IT BEGINS TO SHUT ITSELF OFF, IT HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW. IT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME THEN TRAVELED AN ADDITIONAL 200 MILES BEFORE IT DID IT AGAIN. IT THEN DID IT ABOUT SIX TIMES. TOOK TO DEALER, UNABLE TO FIND. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO LOCAL DEALER, THEN TO SELLING DEALER. SHUT DOWN ON BUSY FREEWAY, WAS TOWED TO A FOURTH DEALER WHO SAYS IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A LOOSE FUEL WIRE. SAYS THE CARS MOVEMENT MAY HAVE MADE IT INTERMINTENT. PICKED UP VEHICLE FROM LAST DEALER AND HE ADVISED MAY HAVE FIXED PROBLEM, BUT NOT SURE. UNABLE TO USE VEHICLE AS THERE IS NO TRUST.
INTERMITTANT STALLING WHEN ACCLERATING FROM A STOP. FORD CLAIMS TO HAVE A RE-CALIBRATION OF THE AIR/GAS MIX.DID NO GOOD. STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.

THE REAR HATCHBACK WINDOW BLEW OUT COMPLETLY OUT AFTER THE CONSUMER PARKED THE VEHICLE . DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK

FOOT THROTTLE STICKS.
THROTTLE. GAS PEDAL STARTED TO STICK--MORE PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL DOESN'T CAUSE THE CAR TO ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY, WAITS A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND THEN LURCHES FORWARD.
