WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED PEDAL BECAME HARD, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING WHICH RESULTED IN A COLLISION. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK

FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT, SIZE P255/70R16, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 99 EXPLORER SPORT. LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED WHILE DRIVING. FIRESTONE RETAILER HAS REPLACED THE TIRE AT THEIR EXPENSES. *AK THE 16" WILDERNESS AT IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE SAME TIRES HAVE BEEN RECALLED IN SAUDI ARABIA AND VENEZUELA. *YH
3 TIMES(ONCE IN DEC, JAN, JUL) VEHICLE STALLED OUT, AND WOULD NOT RESTART. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. ON ALL 3 INCIDENTS, DEALER CLAIMED DEFECT WAS CAUSED BY PARTS RELATING TO IGNITION. *AK THE VEHICLE HAD STALLED TWO MORE TIME AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER RELIABLE AND THE PROBLEM IS BEYOND REPAIR. *YH
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH THE REAR TIRE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SWERVE. I SLOWED DOWN TO FIND THAT THE TIRE HAD SHRED ALL THE WAY AROUND. I DROVE IT TO THE SIDE WERE I CONTACTED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE @ 3:00 AM. I TOOK IT INTO THE NEAREST FIRESTONE TO GET A REPLACEMENT. HE COULD NOT FIND A REASON WHY THIS HAD HAPPENED NO CUTS IN THE TIRE JUST SEPERATION. ACCORDING TO MY WARRANTY I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A FREE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE OF A DEFECT THE MANAGER REFUSED BECAUSE HE ASSUMED THE TIRE WAS NOT PROPERLY INFLATED I PAID FOR A NEW TIRE.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 23575R15 )
WHILE DRIVING OUNDER WET OR SLUSHY CONDITIONS FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO RIGHT WHICH RESULTED IN A CRASH. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE FRONT RIGHT ROTOR. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 65MPH VEHICLE SWERVED AND ROLLED OVER, RESULTING IN INJURY. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.*AK
WIPERS WILL COME ON WITH SWITCH IN OFF POSTION. WASHERS WILL NOT WORK WHEN WIPERS ARE ON BUT WILL SLOW WIPER SPEED. WIPER SPEED WILL NOT CHANGE FROM SLOW TO FAST WITHOUT JIGGLING THE SWITCH. WIPERS WILL CHANGE SPEED WHEN USING TURN SIGNAL. I AM CONCERNED THEY WILL FAIL COMPLETELY AND AM AWARE OF OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.
WINSHIELD WIPERS SOMETIMES GO ON WHEN TURN SIGNAL IS USED. THIS IS DISTRACTING AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *AK
THE REAR WIPER REPEATEDLY FAILS TO OPERATE AT RANDOM INTERVALS. TURNING ON THE REAR WIPER SIMPLY RESULTS IN THE WIPER DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. IT DOESN'T MOVE OR ANYTHING. ONE MINUTE IT WILL WORK AND THE NEXT MINUTE IT WON'T. (NOTE ALSO THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED BY FORD FOR THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER WHICH IS NOT LISTED IN YOUR LIST OF RECALLS ON YOUR WEBSITE.) THE VEHICLE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED THREE TIMES,BRAKE PADS AND SHOE ASSEMBLIES, ROTORS AND CALIPERS FAILED TWICE. *YH
I OWN TWO FORDS; A 1999 RANGER XLT EXT. CAB AND A 1999 EXPLORER - EDDIE BAUER. BOTH ARE EQUIPPED WITH A CD/CASSETTE/AM-FM RADIO COMBINATION. THE DISPLAY LIGHTS ON BOTH RADIOS UNITS DO NOT WORK. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. MY MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I CALLED A FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT WHEN THESE UNITS WERE PRODUCED, THE DEFECT EXISTED. IT IS IN THE WAY THE WIRING WAS SOLDERED IN. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED? FORD WILL FIX IT FOR 400.00!! THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER SOLD THIS ITEM AS AN OPTION AND CERTAINLY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. STRICT LIABILITY! THEY KNEW THE PROBLEM EXISTED YET CONTINUED TO INSTALL THESE DEFECTIVE UNITS. *JB
DAY AFTER BOUGHT HAD LEFT REAR TIRE REPLACED--WOULD NOT STAY INFLATED;RIGHT FRONT TIRE CAME APART AT 17,000 MILES--REPLACED AT COST OF $97.11; FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT;AT 20,000 MILES NOTICED BACK REAR TIRE WITH "BUMPS" ON SIDEWALLS--TOLD NO PROBLEM( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
USED THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER (FOR THE 1ST TIME) AND WITHIN 10 MINUTES THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED! IT DID THIS ALL BY ITSELF, NOTHING HIT THE WINDOW. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP & FORD CUST.SRVC. SAY "SINCE THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE IT IS NOT WARRENTIED"!?! SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE, NOTHING "HIT" THE WINDOW!! I HAVE HAD SEVERAL MINOR ELECTRICAL ODDITIES (IE: WINDSHIELD WIPERS & CIG.LIGTER MALFUNCTIONING), WONDERING NOW IF THERE IS A CONNECTION W/REAR-DEFOGGER?? I DID TAKE PICTURES BEFORE REMOVING THE GLASS (IT WAS SLOWLY CRUMBLING, ONE BUMP AND IT WOULD HAVE FALLEN INTO BITS), BUT FORD DOESN'T WANT TO SEE "ANYTHING" THEY TOLD ME TO TURN IT OVER TO MY INSURANCE, BUT IT'S NOT AN INSURANCE PROBLEM, IT'S A CAR PROBLEM! AGAIN, NOTHING HIT THE WINDOW. FORD HAS SIMPLY BRUSHED ME OFF. ANY ASSISTANCE OR INFORMATION YOUR OFFICE MIGHT HAVE WOULD BE "GREATLY APPRECIATED".
WINDSHIELD WIPERS START AUTONOMOUSLY, RUN FOR A FEW CYCLES AND STOP. *AK
ONGOING INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH A SQUEALING SOUND COMING FROM FRONT AXLE. VEHICLE BEEN IN / OUT OF DEALER SHOP ON FIVE OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM STILL REOCCURRING. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF BEING BOUGHT BACK BY THE DEALER AS A LEMON. *AK *ML
I WAS GOING TO WORK AT 0500 IN THE MORNING, SOUTH BOUND ON INTERSTATE 5 AT A SPEED OF AROUND 68 MPH. I WAS TRAVELING NEXT TO A CONCRETE DIVIDER AND IN THE MIDDLE OF COMPLETING A CURVE IN THE FREEWAY WHEN MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT FROM UNDER ME. BEING IN A TURN THE FORCE FROM TH BLOWOUT RENDERED MY VEHICLE UNCONTROLABLE ENOUGH THAT I COULDNT PULL AWAY FROM THE WALL IN TIME. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE IMPACTED FIRST AS SOON AS THIS HAPPENED THE RIGHT REAR TIRE ALSO BLEW OUT. MY VEHICLE WAS THEN RIDING ON THE TWO RIGHT RIMS UNTIL I CAME TO A HALT. WHEN I TRIED TO MAKE A CLAIM TO FIRESTONE THEY REFUSED MY INQUERY SAYING I HAD HIT A ROAD HAZZARD CAUSING BOTH TIRES TO BLOW OUT. IT WASNT UNTIL MY DAD SENT THE REPORT ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION FROM KHOU IN HOUSTON, TX THAT I REALIZED I WASNT THE ONLY ONE INVOLED. I HAD TO PAY FOR ALL EXPENSES ON MY VEHICLE AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY RULED IT MY FAULT AFTER REVIEWING THE RESULTS FROM FIRESTONE'S INVESTIGATION SO I AM PAYING FOR IT ON MY INSURANCE AS WELL. *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P245/75R15 )
WHILE DRIVING, FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRE P235/75R15 STARTED SOUNDING FUNNY, THEN IT POPPED OF THE RIM AND TIRE WENT FLAT, WHEN TIRE WAS TAKEN TO FORD DEALER, THEY SAID IT WASN'T THEIR PROBLEM. *SLC
FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES P235/75R15 CAUSED VEHICLE TO VIBRATE, CONSUMER COULD FEEL THE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL, TIRES ONLY HAVE 15000 MILES ON THEM, CONSUMER NOTICED WAVES IN FRONTAL TIRES. *SLC
PRIOR TO RECALL, WHILE TRAVELING BOTH LEFT REAR FIRESTONE(P235/75R15) TIRES BLEW OUT CAUSING VEHICLE TO SPIN AROUND AND INTO THE MEDIAN, VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND ALL 4 TIRES WERE REPLACED, CONSUMER HAS BEEN SENT FORMS FROM MANUFACTURER THAT DOES NOT APPLY TO HIS SITUATION AND AS OF 4/2/01 STILL HAS NOT HEARD FROM MANUFACTURER. *JB
VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE (A PASSENGER CAR) IN THE LEFT REAR QUARTER (AT THE REAR TIRE). VEHICLE WAS BEING ACCELERATED AT THE TIME TO ATTEMPT TO AVOID PENDING COLLSION. UPON IMPACT ACCELERATOR STUCK; SUV ACCELERATED ACROSS TWO LANES OIF TRAFFIC & PLOWED INTO A DIRT EMBANKMENT. COLLISION WITH EMBANKMENT WAS HEAD ON. THIS SECONDARY COLLISION IS CAUSE OF DAMAGE TO SUV LEADING TO IT BEING TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. SUV DID NOT RESPOND TO BRAKES DURING SHORT ACCELERATION PERIOD BETWEEN INTIAL IMPACT (FROM OTHER VEHICLE) AND FINAL IMPACT WITH THE EMBANKMENT.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS REPLACED ONCE. ALSO, TWO DIFFERENT DESCRIPTIONS OF ENGINE NOISE. *AK
I WAS TRAVELING AT 3:00AM ON A FREEWAY I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 70MPH WHEN THE REAR RIGHT TIRE BEGAN TO SHAKE I PULLED TO THE RIGHT BECAUSE MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE CONTROL. I LOOKED AT THE TIRE IT WAS SHREDDED. THE TIRE WAS BARELY ATTACHED TO THE RIM. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW CAR I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG I CALLED THE DEALER HE SAID TO CONTACT FIRESTONE I TOOK THE TIRE IN FOR INSPECTION HE COULD NOT FIND ANY REASON FOR THE RUPTURE SO I HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE. ON 7/22/00 I HAD ANOTHER TIRE GO FLAT SAME AREA OF THE CAR THE TIRE HAD A PUNCTURE IN IT I REPLACED IT AGAIN. *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )

CAR HAS BEEN IN REPAIR FACILITY 4 TIMES SINCE 10/14/99 FOR FAILURES. THE FAILURES OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE ENGINE IS DISABLED AND SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR SOMEONE IN COLD WEATHER CLIMATES (ESPECIUALLY REMOTE AK) AND IF EMERGENCY ROAD ACTION IS NEEDED (NO ANTI-LOCKS OR POWER STEERING IF ENGINE IS OFF). SITUATION IS BEING FORWARDED FOR AK LEMON LAW PERSUANT TO AK STATUTE 45.45.300. CURRENTLY, FORD ENGINEERS AND LOCAL REPAIR EXPERTS CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT FAILS TO LATCH PROPERLY. THE LOCKING MECHANISM BROKE. THE LATCH PLATE WILL NOT STAY IN BUCKLE. WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE AT TIME OF FAILURE. TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALER TO CHECK. *AK
THIS VEHICLE HAD TWO TIRES BLOW OUT. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES COULD ALSO BLOW OUT WITHOUT A TREAD SEPARATION? THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. (CLAIM# 43-R369-551) *MW
VEHICLE RIDES UNSTABLE AT SPEEDS OF 55MPH OR GREATER, PARTICULARLY ON THE FREEWAY. VEHICLE AGGRESIVELY TRACKS AND SWAYS. VEHICLE ALSO OVEREACTS WHEN SUDDEN MOVE TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT IS NECESSITTATED TO AVOID OBSTRUCTION IN THE ROAD OR A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN INSPECTED 3 TIMES AND RULED OUT AS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. NEW EDDIE BAUER MODEL (WITH WILDERNESS AT 16" TIRES,) AND XLT MODEL (WITH WILDERNESS AT 15" TIRES) EXPLORERS WERE ALSO TEST DRIVEN WITH THE DEALER (HOMER HELLER FORD) AND FOUND TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE SUBJECT LIMITED MODEL. ALL HAVE WILDERNESS AT TIRES STOCK FROM THE FACTORY. RECOMMEND FIRESTONE RECALL ALL WILDERNESS AT TIRES MADE AT ALL FACTORIES AND 16" TIRES AS WELL AS 15".( DOT NUMBER: VNCU-1PX TIRE SIZE: (255/70R16 )
POWER STEERING RACK NEEDED REPLACEMENT IN FIRST WEEK OF OPERATION. POWER STEERING FLUID WAS SPRAYED ONTO AND INTO SEVERAL OTHER COMPONENNTS. HAZARDOUS CONDITION. ENVIRONMENT CONTAMINATED.
WHEN EITHER ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT WILL MAKE A POPPING SOUND AND MOVE (SHORT DISTANCES). THE MANUFACTURER HAS CLAIMED IT HAPPENS ON ALL 1999 EXPLORER MODELS (EDDIE BAUER VERSION) WITH ELETRONIC SEATS. I AM WORRIED THAT THE SEAT COULD BE DESIGNED INCORRECTLY AND POSSIBLY MOVE FORWARD DURING AN ACCIDENT SINCE IT WILL MOVE DURING NORMAL ACELERATIONS AND DECELERATIONS.
FROM NEW WE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE CAR WANDERING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, IT FEELS LIKE YOU HAVE LIMITED CONTROL OF THE CAR. ALSO THERE IS A VIBRATION ON THE STEERING AS IF THE WHEELS ARE UNBALANCED. THE PROBLEM ACTUALLY GOT WORSE AFTER THE TIRES WHERE REPLACED AS MY CAR WAS ONE OF THE CARS WHICH HAD THE RECALLED FIRESTONE TIRES ON IT. ITS BEEN TO THE DEALER ON 4 OCCASIONS AND THEY CANNOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THEY ARE NOW CALLING IN THE FORD ENGINEERS TO TRY AND SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE ALSO HAD A SUSPENSION SQUEEK WHICH OCCURS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING NORMALLY AND ALSO ON BUMPY ROADS.THE CAR HAS BEEN IN 4 TIMES AS WELL AND THE DEALERS HAVE JUST LUBED THE SUSPENSION, THE SQUEEK IS BACK AFTER A DAY OR SO, THE DEALERS ALSO CANNOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, AND FIND SOME LOVELY EXCUSES AS TO WHY THERE IS A SQUEEK IE AFTER MARKET RUNNING BOARDS. THE FRONT BRAKES HAD A VIBRATION AND THE DEALER FOUND THE ROTORS OUT OF ROUND AND SKIMMED THEM. WHEN I QUERIED WHY THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE ROTORS, I WAS INFORMED IT WAS NORMAL FOR ROTORS TO GO OUT OF ROUND,THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED ON ANY OF MY OTHER CARS SO I FIND THIS A POOR EXCUSE. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER PROBLEMS AS WELL WITH THIS CAR AND I FEEL THE DEALERS HAVE HAD ENOUGH ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE CAR,AND ITS TIME FOR FORD TO TAKE THIS CAR BACK AND GIVE ME A NEW ONE,OR REFUND ME MY MONEY SO THAT I CAN GO AND PURCHASE SOMETHING ELSE.I BOUGHT A NEW CAR SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BRAKE DOWNS ECT AND BECAUSE NEW CARS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SAFER. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH THIS FORD EXPLORER.
ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED, CAUSING OIL LEAKAGE. ALSO, FRONT AXLE SEALS BLEW OUT, AND TRANSMISSION LEAKED. TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 300 MILES. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THE TRUCK. *AK
WHEN COMING TO A STOP, THE ENGINE WOULD GO INTO RAPID ACCELERATION AND THE RPMS WOULD GO WAY UP. THE TRUCK WOULD CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD EVEN WHEN APLLYING THE BRAKES. THE TRUCK WOULD ONLY STOP WHEN THE DRIVER PUTS THE TRUCK IN PARK AND COMPLETELY TURN TRUCK OFF. DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK WAS A RENTAL FROM ENTERPRISE. *AK

I WANTED TO NOTE THAT ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD BLOWOUTS. FOR NO APPARENT REASON. STARTING IN SEPTEMBER OF 1999 AND DATING THROUGH APRIL OF 2000. I HAVE THE RECEIPTS FOR THE TIRES THAT I HAVE REPLACED, BUT LOOKING AT THEIR REIMBURSEMENT POLICY THEY MAY NOT REIMBURSE ME. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN THIS VEHICLE! I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR THE TEST AND THEY ARE STATING I STILL HAVE 2 OF THE TIRES ON FROM THE PLANT OF THE RECALL. WIPERS WILL COME ON WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHTAWAY OR ACTIVATING TURN SIGNAL LEVER AND STOP DURING RAIN
THIS TRUCK HAS OVERDRIVE PROBLEMS. WHEN YOU PUT IT IN REV AND THEN DRIVE MOST TIMES IT WILL CUT THE OVERDRIVE OFF, BUT NOT ALL THE TIME. REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE. AIRBAG LIGHT GOES ON AND STARTS BLINKING THEN GOES OFF FOR A WHILE THEN BACK ON. THE POWER STEERING MAKES NOISE ON A HARD RIGHT OR LEFT TURN.
THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL SUDDENLY TURN ON WITHOUT BEING ACTIVATED BY THE USER. THEY WILL MAKE ONE PASS ACROSS THE GLASS. I KNOW THAT THERE HAVE ALREADY BEEN SEVERAL REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY.
VEHICLES TRANSMISSION DOES NOT HOLD ON GRADES, VEHICLE IN DRIVE JUST TAKING FOOT OFF BRAKE PEDAL. HAS HAPPENED ON SMALL AS WELL AS LARGE GRADES MECHANIC TOLD HUSBAND IT WAS OK, THAT THE VEIGHT OF VEHICLE WAS CAUSING CONCERN DIAGNOSIS WAS NORMAL OPERATION I DO NOT THINK THIS IS TRUE HAVE OWNED FORDS IN PAST NONE HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. I TRADED A 97 FORD THUNDERBIRD FOR THIS VEHICLEIT DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM , I OWNEDTHE T-BIRD FOR 2 YEARS AND IT HAD 44,000 MILES WHEN I TRADED IT FOR THIS EXPLORER.
HAD RECEIVED NOTICE 99V123000. CONTACTED DEALER & SET APPOINTMENT. WAS INFORMED NO PARTS AVAILABLE. WOULD NOTIFY WHEN PARTS WERE IN. HEARD NOTHING. CONTACTED DEALER & MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. TOOK VEHICLE IN ON DATE. AFTER ARRIVING, WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC NO PARTS. DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE LOANER UNTIL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. *AK
