WE HAVE HAD A HOOD LATCH RECALL, CRUISE CONTROL RECALL, QUESTIONS ABOUT A TIRE RECALL (FIRESTONE), POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK, CV BOOT RIP, WIPERS TURNING ON WITH THE TURN SIGNAL, 1 ENGINE REPLACED DUE TO 0 PSI OIL AT IDLE (DID THEY REALLY REPLACE IT OR JUST SAY THEY DID?) SEVERAL INDEPENDENT RE-EVALUATIONS AFTER THE "NEW" ENGINE HAD EVEN MORE NOISES, FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED, A MYSTERIOUS CLUNKING SOUND ON THE RIGHT SIDE DURING LEFT TURNS, ~5000MI AFTER 1ST ENGINE "REPLACEMENT" ANOTHER FORD REPAIR CENTER IS NOW SAYING THAT THE ENGINE HAS 0PSI AT AND WE NEED ANOTHER ENGINE. WE FEEL LIKE THIS 99 EXPLORER (WITH CURRENTLY <35,000MI)IS A LEMON AND WE ARE TIRED OF RECALLS, REPAIRS, WAITING FOR ENGINES. WE WANT A DEPENDABLE CAR! WE HAVE TAKEN IMMACULATE CARE OF THE CAR, HAVE HAD PROFESSIONALS DO THE WORK ON IT (USUALLY FORD DEALERSHIPS) AND YET WE ARE AFRAID THAT THE WARRENTEE WILL RUN OUT AND WE WILL HAVE AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM OR, WORSE, THE CAR WILL FAIL AND SOMEONE WILL GET HURT! DOES THIS CAR QUALIFY AS A "LEMON." IF NOT WHAT DOES? IF SO, WHAT ARE OUR OPTIONS? P.S. ALL OF THE MENTIONED PROBLEMS ARE DOCUMENTED BY FORD DEALERSHIP RECORDS THAT ARE IN OUR POSSESSION.
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION THAT CONTRIBUTED TO A LIGHT POLE FALLING ON TOP OF VEHICLE'S HOOD. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
ENGINE BEGAN PRODUCING SOUNDS OF DIESELING OR RATTLING AT ROUGHLY 50K MILES. CAMSHAFT TENSIONER REPLACED UNDER RECALL SHORTLY AFTER, MECHANIC SAID THIS WOULD ELIMINATE NOISE. NOISE GREW PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME - BROUGHT INTO A FORD DEALER, HAD VEH. FOR A WEEK AND REPLACED FRONT CAM CHAIN GUIDE. WENT TO P/U VEHICLE AND WAS INFORMED NOISE IS STILL THERE DUE TO REAR CAM CHAIN GUIDE NEEDING REPLACEMENT. WOULD HAVE TO PULL MOTOR FOR ABOUT ANOTHER $1000. TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS INFORMED ME BOTH GUIDES FAILING DUE TO CAM SHAFT TENSIONER. BOTH GUIDES WOULD NOT FAIL AT SAME TIME ON OPPOSITE ENDS OF MOTOR UNLESS JOINED BY COMMON PART. DEALER AND FORD MOTOR CO. BASICALLY SAID THAT'S MY PROBLEM.*AK
THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE SHORTED OUT, THE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS, FRONT AXLE SEALS, BRAKE CALIPER PADS, BRAKE LINE, POWER DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY AND MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH ASSEMBLY WERE ALL REPLACED. *TS THE TIMING CHAIN, TENSIONER, IDLE AIR CONTROL, VALVE INTAKE GASKETS AND THE SEATS WHICH RIPPED WERE ALSO REPLACED. * JB
WHILE DRIVING WINDSHIELD WIPERS COULD COME ON UNEXPECTEDLY. WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR HAD BEEN REPLACED BEFORE, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. *AK
PASSENGER SIDE REARVIEW MIRROR SWITCH GOT STUCK, CAUSED MIRROR TO CRACK UNDER TENSION.*AK
PASSENGER SIDEVIEW MIRROR MOTOR FORCED SIDE PANEL TO BEND WHICH CAUSE MIRROR TO CRACK UNDER FORCE PRESSURE, CONTACTED DEALER BUT REFUSE TO ADMIT ITS A DEFECTED PROBLEM. PLEASE TRY TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER. THANKS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE, AND THEN CUT OFF. *AK

WHILE DRIVING THE LEFT REAR TIRE SIDEWALL BLEWOUT. NLM
LEFT REAR TIRE EXPLODED AT ABOUT 30 MPH. CAR HAD BEEN STARTED COLD AT 6:00PM AND HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD AT SPEEDS OF 30-50 MPH FOR LESS THAN 10 MINUTES PRECEEDING FAILURE. NO ROAD HAZARD WAS NOTED. SIDEWALL SPIT OPEN FROM RIM TO TREAD IN A VERY STRAIGHT LINE. FIRESTONE CLAIMED ROAD HAZARD BUT REPLACED TIRE. I NEVER SAW, FELT, OR BELIEVED THAT ANY ROAD HAZARD WAS ENCOUNTERED. SIDE BLEW OUT OF TIRE. FIRESTONE DEALER SAID IT LOOKED LIKE THE RESULT OF A PRIOR HARD IMPACT WITH A CURB. NO SUCH IMPACT OCCURRED. I'M REPORTING NOW IN LIGHT OF THE FIRESTONE RECALL OF OTHER TIRES AND THE FACT 2 FIRESTONE DEALERS SAID MOST INSTANCES OF KNOWN TIRE FAILURES ON EXPLORERS WERE TO THE RIGHT REAR TIRE.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 255/70 R16 )

CAR CRASHED STEERING DISABLED, IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO FLAMES. *AK
VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, WHILE SITTING STILL OR TURNING CORNERS IT WILL CUT OFF. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER & PROBLEM KEEPS REOCCURRING. VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP ON 27-MAR-2000 & 28-MAR-2000, AND TAKEN BACK TO DEALER. *AK
ON INTERSTATE 76 IN NORTHEASTERN COLORADO, MARCH 2000, AIR TEMPERATURE 50 DEGREES, VEHICLE SPEED 75 MPH, TIRE PRESSURE 30 PSI, VEHICLE LOAD 2 ADULTS AND LUGGAGE, MILES ON VEHICLE AND TIRES APPROX. 3500, FIRST INDICATION OF TROUBLE WAS INCREASING NOISE SOUNDED LIKE A HELICOPTER WAS OVERHEAD AND GETTING CLOSER, THEN NOTICED CONTROL OF VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED AND REALIZED A TIRE WAS GOING, DECREASED SPEED AS RAPIDLY AS POSSIBLE AND WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND GET VEHICLE STOPPED, RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED HOWEVER TREAD SEEMED TO BE INTACT HOWEVER WAS WRAPPED AROUND RIM AND DISC BRAKE ASSEMBLY, RIM WAS ON GROUND BUT DID NOT DAMAGE RIM OR BRAKE. FIRESTONE WOULD NOT COVER REPLACEMENT EXPENSE BECAUSE DEALER CALLED IT A "RUN-FLAT" AND SAID HE WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. WITH RECENT PUBLICITY AND PICTURES IN NEWS MEDIA, I AM VERY SURE WE HAD A TREAD SEPARATION, NOT A BLOW OUT OR ROAD DAMAGE. ERRATIC OPERATION OF WINDSHIELD WIPERS OPERATING INTERMITTENTLY WHILE SWITCH IS IN OFF POSITION. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT COVER UNDER A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER. *AK
AFTER STARTING FORWARDADVANCING ABOUT 50FT, VEHICLE LURCHED TO RIGHT, STRIKING BRIDGE RAIL. INSPECTION REVEALED BROKEN TIE-ROD SPINDLE ON RF WHEEL. INCIDENT OCCURRED WITH NO IMPACT TO CAUSE FAILURE.
WE WERE DRIVING 75 MPH WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW COMPLETELY OFF THE RIM, ALSO CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FENDER. WE HAD LESS THAN 9000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. AT THE TIME, FIRESTONE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. WE READ THE ARTICLE ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS TIRE, & FEEL COMPELLED TO REPORT THIS OCCURANCE TO YOU. A CHUNK OF TREAD CAME OFF THE TIRE EXPOSING THE STEEL CORDS ON THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL, CONSUMER IMMEDIATELY REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES (FIRESTONE P235/75R15), CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT BUT WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED FROM A COMPETITOR PRIOR TO APR 9, 2000. NLM
SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH 1999 FORD EXPLORER EDDIE BAUER EDITION. *MR WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED RIGHT, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD COME ON, THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HAD BLOWN, THERE WAS A WHINE NOISE, A LEAKING ON THE GARAGE FLOOR ALONG WITH A BURNING SMELL WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHUTOFF, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE FRONT AXLE SEAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND THE HEAT GAUGE SHOWED HOT, THE DEALER DETERMINED IT WAS THE THERMOSTAT. THE ENGINE SURGED, THE LIGHT EMITTING THE DISPLAY HAD GONE OUT, THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY/AXLE SEAL. *SCC *JB

BRAKING SYSTEM HAS FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE 4 TIMES IN LESS THAN 40,000 MILES , 3 MASTER CYLINDERS NOT COUNTING THE ORIGINAL, AND 3 COMPLETE BRAKING SYSTEMS ON ALL 4 WHEELS. THIS VEHICLE IS BEING REPAIRED AT SCARFF FORD IN AUBURN, WA AND PUT BACK ON THE ROAD, IF IT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED THE FOUR TIME , WHAT MAKES THEM THINK THE FIFTH TIME WILL DO IT. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT ONLY A HAZARD TO WHOM EVER GETS IT, BUT TO EVERYONE AROUND IT. WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO PUT A VEHICLE BACK ON THE ROAD WITH KNOWN PROBLEMS? *AK

THE IGNITION SWITCH COMES OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE THE KEY IS IN THE RUN POSITION.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE HAS SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN FEB 2000 AND THE SECOND WAS MAY 26, 2006. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THIS OCCURRED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT 3MPH. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE HIT THE SIDE OF A BUILDING THAT WAS ABOUT 15 FEET AWAY CAUSING PROPERTY DAMAGE. THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE HIT A TREE THAT WAS ABOUT 15-20 FEET AWAY. EVEN THOUGH BRAKE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE POLICE WERE ALERTED FOR THE FIRST INCIDENT AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED. A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE NHTSA REGARDING THE FIRST INCIDENT. ONE YEAR LATER, THE NHTSA CALLED THE CONTACT TO SEE IF THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED A SECOND TIME. THE CONTACT IS FILING ANOTHER COMPLAINT TO ALERT THE NHTSA THE DEFECT HAS OCCURRED AGAIN. TIRES HAVE BEEN CAUSING MAJOR PROBLEMS AND DRIVING ROUGHLY - AFRAID TO DRIVE LONG DISTANCE. *AK( DOT NUMBER: )
MY FORD EXPLORER EXPERIENCED A TIRE FAILURE BY WAY OF SEPERATION BETWEEN THE TIRE GROVE AT A LITTLE OVER 11,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MILES PER HOUR. I CALLED THE SOUND FORD DEALERSHIP AND A LOCAL EVERETT WA FIRESTONE DEALER AND THEY BOTH TOLD ME THAT COULD NOT HELP ME. THEY BOTH ASSURED ME THAT THIS WORK WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARNTIES. I WAS LESS THAN PLEASED WITH THIS SITUATION, BUT WITH LIMITED CHOICES I DECIDED TO GO TO LES SCHWAB AND PURCHASE THE CHEAPEST TIRE I COULD FIND WITHIN THE SAME SIZE AND USED IT FOR MY SPARE. THIS SEEMS LIKE A PRETTY SHOTTY THING TO HAVE TO DO WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT I PAID $23,000.00 FOR A TRUCK THAT WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS OLD. THE OTHER THING THAT DISTURBS ME IS THAT NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE FORD EXPLORER WAS TOP HEAVY AND THAT THEY TRIED TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS SHORTCOMING BY REDUCING THE AIR PRESSURE LEVEL TO 26 PSI. A FIRESTONE REPRESENTITIVE INFORMED ME THAT THE TIRE BEING A CLASS "B" TIRE WAS NOT DESIGNED FOR THIS PRESSURE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. ALL OF THIS SEEMS VERY DISTURBING TO ME ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE 4 OTHER RECALLS AND WARRANTY WORK THAT I AM HAVING DONE ON THE ROCKER ARM COMPONENT. THIS IS MY FIRST FORD PRODUCT AND FIRESTONE PRODUCT. I AM NOT IMPRESSED THUS FAR AND I THINK IT IS APPROPRIATE THAT I BE REIMBURSED FOR AT LEAST THE TIRE WORK I HAVE HAD DONE. AFTERALL IT APPEARS THAT MY FAMILY AND I ARE TAKING ALL OF THE SAFETY RISKS WHILE USING YOUR PRODUCTS AND PAYING FORD/FIRESTONE BY WAY OF PAYING OUR LOAN. WHILE DRIVING THE FRONT END SHAKES VERY HARD, AND ON ALL TIRES THERE ARE LUMPS FORMING AND MAKING A WHISTLING NOISE. *AK THERE WAS A CONSTANT NOISE IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, DEALER HAS REPLACED THE FOLLOWING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM: DRIVESAHFT, LOWER CONTROL ARMS, LEFT UPPER BALL JOINT, LOWER STEERING SHAFT ON TWO OCCASIONS, FRONT SHAFT, LOWER BALL JOINTS, OUTER TIE ROD ENDS, POWER STEERING PUMP AND RACK, LEFT UPPER BALL JOINT AND FINALLY THE ARM BUSHING THAT WAS HITTING THE FRAME. BRAKES WERE PULSATING, DEALER MACHINED THE FRONT ROTORS. THERE WAS A DELAY IN STARTING THE VEHICLE, DEALER STATED THIS WAS NORMAL. RADIO HAD NO DISPLAY LIGHTS, DEALER INSTALLED A NEW RADIO. THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT BURNT OUT, DEALER REPLACED THE BULB. THE PARKING BRAKE SOMETIMES WOULD NOT RELEASE, DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE REAR WIPER WAS NOT CLEANING, DEALER REPLACED THE WIPER ARM AND BLADE. *SLC

THROTTLE STICKS, HAS BEEN REPAIRED, AS WELL AS SPEED CONTROL RECALL COMPLETED/NO CRASH
PRIOR TO RECALL NOTIFICATION CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE FOR MAINTENANCE AND WAS ADVISED BY TECHNICIAN THAT ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF EXTREME WEAR, CONSUMER WAS THEN NOTIFIED OF RECALL MONTHS LATER, AND NOW IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE TIRES, CONSUMER WAS ADVISED BY FIRESTONE THAT THE SERIAL NUMBERS FOR THE OLD TIRES WERE NEEDED, C0NSUMER STATED HE DID NOT HAVE THE SERIAL NUMBER NOR DID THE MECHANIC THAT REPLACED THE TIRES, HOWEVER CONSUMER WAS STILL IN POSSESSION OF THE SPARE TIRE WHICH CONTAINED THE SERIAL NUMBER, ONCE THAT WAS GIVEN TO FIRESTONE, CONSUMER WAS THEN ADVISED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE SINCE THE REPLACEMENT TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE DEALER. *JB
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WILL PULL TO THE RIGHT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. PROBLEM WAS UNABLE TO BE CORRECTED, LATER RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. *AK *ML
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WHERE IT ROLLED OVER, AND HIT SEVERAL VEHICLES AND TREES. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY . MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY BY THEMSELVES WITH SWITCH IN OFF POSITION, CAUSING A DISTRACTION TO DRIVER. *AK
FIRESTONE TIRE DELAMINATED CAUSING VEHICLE TO ROLLOVER AND INJURE 2 CONSUMERS. *SLC
CAR ACCELERATOR LOCKED AND ACCELERATED FROM 62 MPH TO ABOUT 73 MPH. BRAKE UNABLE TO SLOW CAR FOR AN EXTENDED DISTANCE (ABOUT A MILE). HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO GET CAR TO FULL STOP. VERY SIMILAR TO RECALLS DESCRIBED IN REGIONAL RECALL FORD 95S29, NO. 96S59, NO. 97S65, NO. 97S67 NO. 97S96. *AK
