VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH 15 INCH WILDERNESS TIRES WHICH NEEDED AIR MORE FREQUENTLY THAN OTHER TIRES, CONSUMER FELLS THE RECALL SHOULD BE WIDENED TO ENCOMPASS ALL WILDERNESS AT AND ATX TIRES REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY WERE MANUFACTURED. NLM
PE00-020; TIRES SIZE 23575R15, DOT VNHL1PL358, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT WITH FORD EXPLORER, 1999, 21000 MILES ON IT. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO GET INSPECTED AT FIRESTONE, AND WAS TOLD THAT FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE TREAD WAS SEPARATING, AND HAVE DEVELOPED CRACKS ALL AROUND THE TREAD. ALSO, OTHER 3 TIRES STARTED TO PEEL , RUBBER WAS PEELING OFF. FIRESTONE DID NOT REPLACE TIRES BECASUE IT WAS NOT PART OF RECALL.*AK
I HAVE BEEN INFLATING MY TIRES TO THE FORD SPECIFICATIONS,WHEN MY LOCAL FORD DEALER "INSPECTED" THE TIRES IN REGARD TO A "RECALL" THEY SAID IT WAS NOT DEFECTIVE BECAUSE THE "CODE" WAS OK.THEY MADE NO RECOMENDATION FOR A PROPER INFLATION PRESSURE!SHOULD I FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMENDATION? THE SIDE-WALLS OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES ARE SPLITTING. YOU CAN SEE PAST THE RUBBER AND INTO THE TIRE ITSELF. HAVE SPOKEN TO SERVICE TECH'S AND THEY ADVISE THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING. I HAVE REPLACED THESE TIRES, BUT STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL TIRES. FORD, NOR FIRESTONE, WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE SPLITTING OF THE TIRE AND I AM UNABLE TO GET MY MONEY BACK THAT I HAVE PAID OUT. TIRE BROKE IN BELT WHILE DRIVING ON A GRAVEL ROAD. THIS IS THE NINTH FAILURE OF THESE TIRES AND FAR EXCEEDS ANY FAILURE RATE I 'VE EVER HAD IN SIMILAR DRINVING CONDITIONS. THIS IS TWO OF FIVE TIRES THAT HAVE GONE FLAT WHILE DRIVING. THE SUSPENSION IS SMOOTH ENOUGH TO ALLOW DRIVING ON A NEARLY FLAT TIRE AND TI THINK THIS IS WHY THE SMA;LLER TIRES ARE FAILING AS WELL. SOME OF THE ROLLOVER PROBLEMS COULD BE ATTRIBUTED NOT ONLY TO FIRESTONE TIRES BUT THE STEERING WHICH OVERSTEERS, IS AS SENSITIVE AS THE POWER STEERING IN THE 1950 7 1960'S. SUGGEST YOU LOOK INTO THIS. THIS VEHICLE HANDLES VERY POORLY ON WET ROADS AND SMALL PUDDLES, IT WANTS TO GO WHEREEVER IT FEELS LIKE. SUGGEST YOU LOOK INTO THIS. SHOULD ALSO HAVE THE EXTREMELY HIGH CENTER OF GRAVITY LOOKED AT CLOSELY.
I OWN FORD EXPLORER SPORT W/P255/70/R16 WILDERNESS A/T OWL TIRES. ONE WEEK BEFORE THE TIME RECALL I HAD TO HAVE RIGHT REAR TIRE PATCHED. THE TIRE COMPANY TOLD ME TO TAKE THE TIRES BACK TO FIRSTONE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE WERE STRESS CRACKS FORMING BETWEEN THE WHEEL & TREAD. I TOOK THEM TO FIRESTONE DEALER & HE PUT ME ON A LIST TELLING ME THAT MY TIRES WERE NOT A RECALL. 2 WEEKS LATER I CALLED TO TELL HIM THE CRACKS LOOKED WORSE. HE SAID BRING EXPLORER IN ON TUES. & WE WILL REPLACE THEM. THEY DID REPLACE 4 (NOT THE SPARE) WITH NO QUESTIONS & NO ARGUMENT. WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO THE SPARE TIRE DOWN THE LINE WHEN THE TIRE PROBLEM IS FORGOTTEN? IT WILL GET THE STRESS CRACKS SINCE IT CAME WITH THE OTHER 4 TIRES. CONSUMER HAD RECALLED FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES REPLACED, CONSUMER UNHAPPY BECAUSE THEY HAD TO PURCHASE A MORE EXPENSIVE TIRE BECAUSE THEY WERE THEY ONLY ONES LEFT IN STOCK, HOWEVER THE DEALER ONLY HAD THREE TIRE AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO DRIVE 40 MILES TO PICK UP TWO ADDITIONAL TIRES FROM ANOTHER LOCATION, CONSUMER SPEND $214. WHILE DRIVING ONE OF THE TIRES SPLIT IN THE SIDEWALL, CONSUMER WAS ON A WAITING LIST BUT DECIDED TO REPLACED ALL FOUR RECALLED TIRES AND SPARE WITH A DIFFERENT BRAND BECAUSE THE DEMAND FOR THAT TIRE WAS SO HIGH THAT THE INVENTORY IN HER CITY WAS LOW, CONSUMER REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL FIVE TIRES.
