TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE IS NOT CLEAR, FIRESTONE RECOMMANDS 30 PSI, 26 PSI IS LISTED ON COMPLIANCE STICKER, WHO SHOULD CONSUMER BELIEVE? *CJ
THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY UNSTABLE WHEN THE CONSUMER TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT GRADUALLY. *MJS
TIRES: DEVELOPED A VIBRATION AS THOUGH THERE WAS A BUMP ON A TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. I HAD THIS CHECKED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AT THE DELERSHIP AND AT THE FIRESTONE STORE IN OUR AREA. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME EVERYTIME I TAKE IT IN THAT THE TIRES NEED ROTATED. THESE TIRES MUST HAVE BEEN ROTATED ON 10 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS BY EITHER MYSELF OR THE DEALERSHIP. THIS DOES NOT CHANGE THE BUMPING BUT DID SEEM TO ALTER THE ORIGINATION POINT OF THE VIBRATION. BRAKES: THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO SQUEEL AND ON TWO OCCASIONS FADED AS THOUGH THERE WERE NO BRAKES. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. THIS WAS CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES. 4WD: THE COMPUTER WOULD THROW THE 4WD IN AND OUT OF OPERATION WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ANY SPEED. AT FIRST THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. LATER THEY DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE COMPUTER. IT STILL APPEARS TO DO THIS ON OCCASION BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO TELL WITH THE OTHER BUMPS AND VIBRATIONS CAUSED BY THE TIRES. BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND FIRESTONE HAVE LOOKED AT THE TIRES WHICH STILL HAVE GOOD TREAD AND STATED THEY WERE FINE. ALL OF THESE HAVE BEEN PRESENT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW AND HAVE BEEN CHECKED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THROUGHOUT OUR OWNERSHIP. THIS IS A LEASED VEHICLE. THE LEFT SIDE FRONT TIRE HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR, THE RIGHT SIDE FRONT TIRE HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN ALIGNED MANY TIMES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER THE TIRES STILL CONTINUE THE WEAR PATTERN, NO NAME OR SIZE OF TIRE WAS GIVEN, THE PROBLEM COULD BE THE TIRES OR THE SUSPENSION. *SLC

CONSUMER RECIEVED AUTHORIZATION TO HAVE INSTALLATION OF AIR BAG ON-OFF SWITCHES FOR THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS, FORD DENIED REQUEST AND NOW CONSUMER WANTS AIR BAG DISCONNECTED. NLM
CONSUMERS TIRES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 00T-005 ALTHOUGH THE TIRES ARE VISIBILY COMING APART AND THE TREADS ARE SEPARATING, CONSUMER REQUEST THAT FIRESTONE REPLACE TIRES. NLM
THERES A NOISE COMING FROM FRONT DRIVER SIDE, IF YOU LOODK UNDER THE VEHICLE YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE AXLE AND TRANSMISSION HAVE BEEN RUBBING TOGETHER. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS WARMED UP THE NOISE SEEMS TO GO AWAY I SPOKE WITH ANOTHER EXPLORER OWNER WHO SAID HE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN TAKEN TO THE SHOP, THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM. *AK
CONSUMER BELIEVES THE TIRE RECALL LETTER WAS POORLY WRIITEN IN GIVING CONSUMER ADEQUATE DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO IDENTIFY THE DEFECTIVE TIRES, CONSUMER LOOKED TWICE FOR THE LETTERS "VDHL" BUT WAS UNABLE TO FIND THEM, IT WASN'T UNTIL TIRES ROTATION , FIVE MONTHS LATER, THAT THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT HE INDEED HAD THE RECALLED TIRES. CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH FAULTY FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES, THE INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE WAS INCORRECT IN STATING TO LOOK NEAR THE "F" IN FIRESTONE, THE WEBSITE NEVER SAID TO LOOK ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE THEREFOR CONSUMER CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, UPON LATER INSPECTION THE CONSUMER DID HAVE RECALLED TIRES DOT CODE VDHL. I DO HAVE THE WILDERNESS AT TIRES DESIGNATED WITH THE NUMBER P235/75R15. HOWEVER, I HAVE A DOT PLANT CODE OF W2, NOT VD. IN FIRESTONE'S VOLUNTARY RECALL, THEY ARE RECALLING THE WILDERNESS AT TIRES WITH THE VD DOT CODE ONLY. IN YOUR CUSTOMER ADVISORY DOCUMENT, YOU ARE GIVING A WARNING TO A WILDERNESS AT TIRES WITH A W2 DOT, ONLY THE SIZE ON THIS ONE ON YOUR DOCUMENT IS P235/7016. SO IT LOOKS LIKE TECHNICALLY, MY TIRES, THE WILDERNESS AT P235/75R15 WITH AT DOT OF W2 DO NOT QUALIFY FOR ANYTHING. BUT IN EVERYDAY REASONING, I DON'T SEE WHY MY TIRES ARE ANY LESS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NOT BE OMITTED ON YOUR DOCUMENT. I DO CONTAIN A SET OF TIRES THAT CAME FROM A PLANT DESIGNATED W2 WHICH ALREADY HAS A PROBLEMATIC SET OF WILDERNESS AT TIRES. I DO CONTAIN A WILDERNESS TIRE SIZE OF A WILDERNESS AT THAT HAS BEEN DESIGNATED 'UNSAFE'. AFTER DOING SOME READING AND WATCHING SHOWS LIKE "DATELINE" ON MY OWN, I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU CAN GO TO ONE PLANT AND SAY 'THESE SET OF TIRES AT THIS SIZE ARE BAD BUT THESE SET OF TIRES WITH THE SAME SIZE AS THE TIRES THAT ARE BAD AT ANOTHER PLANT ARE ALRIGHT'. FIRESTONE SEEMS TO HAVE A QUALITY PROBLEM THAT AFFECTS ITS TIRES, PERIOD. I READ AN ARTICLE WRITTEN BY A GUY WHO HAS STUDIED THE FIRESTONE TIRES AND HE SAID THE CHEMICALS USED IN PRODUCING THE TIRES DON'T BOND WELL. THESE CHEMICALS WILL BE THE SAME IN EACH TIRE NO MATTER WHAT YOU LOOK AT. FIRESTONE CHOSE TO GET RID OF THE STEEL BELT AROUND THEIR TIRES WHICH MAKES TIRES MORE STURDY. AND WHO IS TO SAY THAT THE PLANT DESIGNATED W2 DOES NOT HAVE A QUALITY PROBLEM WITH ALL THE TIRES COMING OUT OF THE PLANT, AT LEAST IN THE TROUBLED WILDERNESS AT TIRE DIVISION? IF YOU HAVE SOME TYPE OF QUALITY PROCESS FOR ONE SIZE OF THE WILDERNESS AT THAT ISN'T GOOD, DON'T YOU THINK THAT SAME PROCESS COULD HAVE BEEN APPLIED TO THE SAME WILDERNESS AT TIRES OF A DIFFERENT SIZE?*AK
THE TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AS AN "OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE". THE REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT WAS SENT 10/26/00. AS OF 1-16-01, BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE HAS NOT REFUNDED THE COST OF THE TIRES. MY TIRES APPEARED AS IF CATS HAD SCRATCHED THEM. THE SIDEWALLS OF THE TIRES WERE PEELING OFF. I RETURNED THESE TIRES AND HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED THESE WERE NOT THE TIRE IN QUESTION. I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD NOT GET ANY MONEY BACK. THE TIRES IN QUESTION WERE OBVIOUSLY DANGEROUS. I, ALSO, JUST HAD A SET OF TWINS AND WANT ONLY THE SAFEST FOR MY CHILDREN. DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE TO GET KILLED TO GET REINBURSEMENT? I DID THE RIGHT THING BY GETTING THOSE TIRES OFF OF MY VEHICLE. WHILE TRAVELING NOTICED THAT FRONT WHEEL MADE LOUD NOISE. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THE DRIVELINE OF THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AT 60-70 MPH, CONSUMER PUT ON 15" WHEELS AND NEW TIRES WHICH STOPPED SOME OF THE VIBRATION, THE CONSUMER BELIEVES SOME OF THE VIBRATION WAS CAUSED BY THE TIRES AND SOME IS CAUSED BY THE DRIVELINE (FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AP P-255-70R-16). NLM
ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE WHETHER THE CAR WAS WAITING FOR A LIGHT OR TRAVELING MAKING IT NECESSARY TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FORCEFULLY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM SURGING AHEAD, WHILE WAITING AT A LIGHT THE CONSUMER HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF BECAUSE IT WAS RACING SO FORCEFULLY THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE HIT CROSSING PEDESTRIANS, THE OVERDRIVE INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHIFTING ERRATICALLY, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE IS RACING AGAIN, POSSIBLY RELATED TO THE LINKAGES. THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT (P235/75R15-105S) TIRES ARE CONTINUALLY IN NEED OF AIR, ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK, THE FRONT END SUSPENSION WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT CAUSING THE TIRES TO WEAR UNEVENLY. *MJS
VEHICLE WAS LEASED TO CONSUMER, WITH UNCORRECTED AND UNDISCLOSED RECALLDEFECTS 99V-164 AND 99V-062.001 WHEN CONSUMER DISCOVERED DEFECTS AND LASK OF DISCLOSURE, SHE ATTEMPTED TO RESCIND HER CONTRACT, BUT DEALERSHIP DECLINED, DEALERSHIP DID NOT INSPECT, DISMANTLE AND REPAIR DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL BEFORE LEASING IT TO HER. THERE IS A TERRIBLE VIBRATION FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE WHEN IDLING AND SOMETIMES WHILE ACCELERATING. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ABOUT A MOUNT OR SOMETHING AND REPLACED IT AND THEN RESET THE COMPUTER THEY SAID BUT THE VIBRATION REMAINS. *AK
I WANTED TO LET SOMEONE KNOW THAT I AGREE WITH BRIDGESTONE, THAT IT IS NOT THE COMPLETE FAULT OF THEIR TIRES AND THE FAULT MUST ALSO BE WITH THE EXPLORER ITSELF. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES AND EVEN WENT AS FAR AS TO PROCEED WITH THE LEMON LAW, WHICH YOU CAN LOOK UP IN FLORIDA TO SEE THE SPECIFICS. OF COURSE FORD BLAMED THE TIRES WHICH THEY REPLACED WITH MICHELIN'S. I STILL HAVE THE SAME SHAKING AND VIBRATION PROBLEMS I HAD WITH THE FIRESTONE TIRES. FORD SAID THAT THE EXPLORER'S RIDE THAT WAY AND TRIED TO TELL ME THAT WHAT I WAS FEELING WAS "NORMAL". TO ME, THIS IS A TOTAL LACK OF SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME OR ANY OTHER PERSON THAT PURCHASES THEIR PRODUCT. WHAT IF MY TIRES HAD BLOWN OUT ON THE HIGHWAY BEFORE THEY WERE REPLACED AFTER COMPLAINING TO THEM FOR MONTHS? THEY PUT MY LIFE IN JEOPARDY. ON TOP OF THAT, I HAD MY OIL CHANGED THE OTHER DAY AND FOUND THAT THEY NEVER REPLACED THE SPARE, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A RECALLED TIRE, SO I CAN ASSUME THAT THE OTHER 4 WERE RECALLED ALSO. IT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE OIL CHANGE. I HONESTLY DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE EVEN WITH DIFFERENT TIRES BECAUSE IT STILL SHAKES AND VIBRATES PRETTY BAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND I JUST HAD THE TIRES ROTATED, BALANCED AND ALIGNED. I HONESTLY FEEL THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I ALSO FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE WON WITH THE LEMON LAW, AND THAT SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE FOR HAVING JEOPARDIZED MY LIFE FOR MONTHS BEFORE THEY CHANGED OUT THE TIRES AND ALSO BECAUSE IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS. OF COURSE, ALL THE NEWS ABOUT THE RECALLED TIRES CAME AFTER I HAD COMPLETED THE LEMON LAW ACTION AGAINST FORD. I FEEL THAT FORD WAS GROSSLY NEGLIGENT WITH REGARDS TO MY PERSONAL SAFETY AND IF THERE IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING DONE ON THAT LEVEL, I WOULD LIKE TO BE INVOLVED. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET, BUT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE AND IT DOES FEEL LIKE THE TIRES ARE GOING TO COME OFF WHEN I AM ON THE HIGHWAY (TIRESIZE: P235/75R15)
WINDSHIELD WIPER OPERATED FROM VERY SLOW TO FAST WHEN THE SETTING WAS ON FAST. *AK
THE CONSUMER DOES NOT WANT RECALL 00V-395 PERFORMED WHICH WOULD REPROGRAM THE PCM ONLY TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO GO 74.6 MILES PER HOUR AS TO NOT CAUSE TIRE FAILURE, THE CONSUMER IS UNHAPPY WITH THIS RECALL AND THINKS IT WILL BE A NUISANCE IN PASSING SITUATIONS, FORD STATED THIS WAS A MANDATORY REPAIR AND THAT IT WOULD BE PERFORMED WITHOUT THE CONSUMERS APPROVAL IN THE EVENT THAT THE VEHICLE IS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. VEHICLE HAS HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS (6 VISITS) WITH NO CORRECTIVE RESULTS. HAVE BEEN TOLD, "THERE IS NO FIX AT THIS TIME". KEEP CHECKING BACK WITH FORD TO SEE IF THEY FIND A FIX. THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC!! I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE TIME LIMIT IS UP TO PURSUE THE LEMON LAW. CONSUMER HAD FIRESTONE TIRE REPLACED WITH GOODYEAR , WHICH IS NOW SHOWING EVIDENCE OF WEAR. CONSUMER FEELS ITS THE SUSPENSION THAT IS CAUSING TIRE TO PREMATURELY WEAR OUT, AND IT IS THE ONLY VEHICLE THAT HAS REAR SUSPENSION LOWER THAN FRONT.*AK
I OWN A 1999 FORD EXPLORER NOW WITH OVER 100,000 MILES. SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW AND OCCASIONALLY OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, THE A/C, DEFROSTER, FOOT VENT, ETC. EMITS A MUSTY, MILDEW, MOLDY SMELL INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN. CAN BREATHING THIS SMELL CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS? IS THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS? I HAVE SINUS, ALLERGY PROBLEMS AND AM WONDERING IF THIS IS ADDING TO MY ILLNESS PROBLEMS? THANK YOU.
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (65-70MPH) THE INTERIOR ELECTROCHROMIC REARVIEW MIRROR BEGINS TO VIBRATE. THE VIBRATATION CAUSES REDUCED VISIBILTY AS THE IMAGES ARE BLURRED. THIS PROBLEM IS COMPOUNDED WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AS A RESULT OF REAR TRAFFIC HEADLIGHTS. THE RESULTING DECREASED REAR VISIBILITY CREATES A HAZARDOUS CONDITION WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS BEEN CONTACTED DIRECTLY REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TRIED TIGHTENING THE MIRROR, REPLACING THE MIRROR, BALANCING THE TIRES, AND CHANGING THE TIRES. THE FINAL CONCLUSION AS DETERMINED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD ENGINEERS IS THAT THE AGRESSIVE TREAD ON THE TIRES IS CAUSING THE VIBRATION. I HAVE BEEN TOLD TO REPLACE THE TIRES WITH A TIRE HAVING A HIGHWAY TREAD. I FIND THIS EXPLANATION DIFFICULT TO ACCEPT BECAUSE THE TIRES THAT ARE ON THE VEHICLE ARE BRAND NEW AS A RESULT OF THE FIRESTONE RECALL.*AK
WHEN YOU TURNING VEHICLE TO RIGHT WINDSHIELD WIPERS COMES ON WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK

WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH AND WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED VEHICLE VIBRATES SEVERELY, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, ( THIS PROBABLY HAPPENS DURING THE DAY ALSO BUT ISN'T AS NOTICABLE) DASH LIGHTS, DOOR PANEL LIGHTS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHTS GO OUT FREQUENTLY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE "UNABLE" TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND KNOW OF NO RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE LIGHTS HAVE SO FAR QUICKLY COME BACK ON. HOWEVER EACH TIME THEY GO OUT, THEY STAY OUT A LITTLE LONGER. *AK
WHEN WE TOOK DELIVERY OF THE 2000 EXPLORER, THE FIRESTONE TIRES WERE INFLATED TO 20PSI. WE DISCOVERED THIS AFTER AN 800 MILE TRIP. WHEN INFLATED TO 30 PSI, THE RIDE IS TERRBLE! WHEN WE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE RIDE ON THE NEXT SERVICE TRIP, THEY GAVE US PAPER WORK STATING THE TIRE PRESSURE HAD BEEN ADJUSTED TO 30 PSI. THE RIDE WAS BETTTER ON THE 10 MILE TRIP HOME. CHECKING THE TIRE PRESSURE WHEN WE ARIVED HOME SHOWED THEM TO BE INFLATED TO 20 PSI. REINFLATING TO 30 PSI CAUSED THE BONE JARRING RIDE TO REOCCUR. BOTTOM LINE: FORD HAS A SUSPENSION PROBLEM THAT THEIR DEALERS ARE FIXING BY LOWERING TIRE PRESSURE TO 20 PSI.
