MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY O/D LIGHT FLASHES ON AND OFF. THERE ARE MANY MANY COMPLAINTS ON GOOGLE WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION STICK LEADING TO CRASHES. FORD SHOULD HAVE A RECALL AND BE MAKE TO FIX THESE BEFORE THEY KILL SOMEONE, IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY. FORD IS VERY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND NHTSA NEEDS TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AND GET OUR VEHICLES REPAIRED!!! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT HOOD OF THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REMAIN OPEN IN A FIXATED POSITION. IF THE HOOD COLLAPSES ONTO A PERSON, HE OR SHE COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THE FRONT HOOD LIFT CYLINDER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE VEHICLE. TWO TIRES HAVE COME APART AND HAD A BLOWOUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 55 TO 70 MPH. THIS WAS TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS. ONE TIRE WAS REPLACED AND WE ARE DEALING WITH THE OTHER NOW. DAMAGE TO CAR. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR WRANGLER RTS TIRES, SIZE 235/75R15. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE APPEARED TO BE FLAT. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE TIRE WITH THE SPARE AND DROVE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIRE WAS UNDER-INFLATED, WHICH CAUSED THE TIRE TO EXPLODE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THIS TYPE OF FAILURE WAS COMMON AT THIS TIME OF YEAR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 121,000. UPDATE 09/10/08 *CW THE TIRE HAD A BUBBLE ON THE SIDE. MY TRUCK BEGAN REVVING FOR NO REASON, IT ONLY HAPPENS BELOW 40 MPH. IT DOESN'T ALWAYS HAPPEN AND HAPPENS MORE WHEN IT IS COLD OUTSIDE. A FEW WEEKS BACK, I COULDN'T DRIVE FORWARD, I HAD TO BACK UP AND THEN IT FINALLY DECIDED TO GO FORWARD. I JUST TOOK THE TRUCK IN AND HAD A NUMBER OF THINGS CHECKED AND REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING AND IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. I DO NOT HAVE MONEY TO THROW AWAY ON A NEW TRANSMISSION, ESPECIALLY WITH THE PRICE OF GAS. PLEASE FIX THESE PROBLEMS. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V072000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 1999 FORD EXPLORER. HIS REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER STOPPED WORKING AND HIS FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE GEM MODULE AND THEY COULD NOT REPAIR IT. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS; HOWEVER, IT HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A FORD DEALER. THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHEN HE WILL HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I DRIVE IN THE AFTERNOON TO THE STORE. THEN I PARK MY CAR IN THE STORE PARKING. 30 MINUTES BEFORE I ARRIVED, HEARD IN THE STORE, THAT ARE LOOKING FOR THE OWNER OF A FORD EXPLORER. WHEN I CAME, MY CAR WAS IN FIRE. THE FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVES AND FINISH THE FIRE. THE CAR LOST IN ALL THE PARTS. *TR
WINDSHIELD CRACKING AND STATIONARY WINDOW BACK PASSENGER WINDOW BREAKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. *TR
WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE, THE CAR WILL NOT START. IT JUST CRANKS AND CRANKS,BUT, WILL NOT TURN OVER.....AS IF IT WAS OUT OF GAS WHEN IT IS NOT. THERE ARE MANY TRICKS TO GETTING THIS THING TO START THOUGH. IF THE WINDOWS ARE ROLLED UP ALL OF THE WAY, AND IT HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN BEFORE NOON, IT WONT START. IF I DRIVE IT IN THE MORNING WHEN IT IS COOL OUTSIDE, IT WILL ALMOST ALWAYS START LATER IN THE DAY. IF I DON'T DRIVE IT UNTIL THE AFTERNOON, AND THE WINDOWS HAVE BEEN LEFT DOWN AND IT IS PARKED IN THE SHADE, IT WILL ALMOST ALWAYS START. THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME A NIGHTMARE. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP 2 DIFFERENT TIMES AND THEY HAVE YET TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN. THEY HAVE REPLACED RELAY SWITCH'S AND FUEL FILTER, BUT HAS NOT HELPED. I HAVE NOTICED THE "THEFT LIGHT" BLINKS RAPIDLY WHEN IT WONT START, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE NO THEFT DEVICE ACTIVATED IN THE VEHICLE!!! THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT, THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DOESN'T ROLE DOWN HALF THE TIME, AND THE SEAT BELTS IN THE BACK SEAT "LOCK UP" EVERY TIME SOMEONE USES THEM TO THE POINT WHERE WHOM EVER IS USING IT HAS TO TAKE IT OFF AND LET IT RETRACT ALL THE WAY TO GET IT TO UNLOCK. THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES DURING A TRIP IN THE CAR. I AM OVER ALL DISAPPOINTED WITH THE CAR AT THIS POINT, AND WOULD LOVE TO SELL IT, BUT, I CAN NOT PREDICT FROM DAY TO DAY IF IT WILL EVEN START FOR A BUYER TO TEST DRIVE IT!!!! THE STARTING ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A FEW MONTHS, THE OTHER ISSUES HAVE BEEN HAPPENING FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW. *TR

THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK HAS STOPPED WORKING. THE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK AT ALL AT THIS POINT. I HOPE TO GOD THAT NO ONE STEALS MY CAR! ONE OCCASION IT DECIDED TO WORK AND IF I DIDN'T HAVE KEYLESS ENTRY, MY KIDS WOULD HAVE BEEN LOCKED IN THE CAR WITH THE CAR RUNNING. I HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO HAVE IT FIX. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM, ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS THAT I AM HAVING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE CONSTANTLY ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, IT FAILED TO PROPERLY SHIFT INTO GEAR. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE VEHICLE DRIFTS INTO NEUTRAL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. SHE IS IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
I HAVE A FORD EXPLORER SPORT 1999, THE DOOR LOCKS WON'T UNLOCK WITH THE KEYS (BOTH SIDE DOORS, THE HATCH WORKS FINE) OR THE KEYPAD, WHEN THEY LOCK AFTER STARTING, THE DRIVERS DOOR WON'T UNLOCK WITH THE HANDLE OR THE UNLOCK BUTTON. IT DOES HOWEVER IF YOU HIT THE UNLOCK BUTTON, PUSHING THE UNLOCK BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES WHILE PULLING UP ON THE LOCK - WHICH IS HARD TO GET A HOLD OF, OR THE HANDLE (FOR NOW) I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF I HAPPENED TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT, THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN IF NEEDED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 154,000.
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. WHEN ARRIVING HOME FROM THE STORE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND MINUTES LATER THE VEHICLE WENT UP IN FLAMES. THE FIRE CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. TWO EXPLOSIONS OCCURRED BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE FIRE MARSHAL ADVISED THAT AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WAS THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,999, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

MILEAGE ON VEHICLE APPROX 75000 MILES WHEN SERVICE WAS COMPLETED. 2. CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION, RESULTING IN COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REBUILD AT COST OF $3000.00. *TR
UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL REMAINED LIT SOLID ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND SMOKE POURED FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. SMOKE CONTINUED AFTER KEY WAS REMOVED IN "OFF" POSITION. WAS CONCERNED THAT FIRE WOULD START. DISCONNECTED BATTERY CABLE AND TOWED TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER INSPECTED AND REPLACED MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH AND WIRING HARNESS. DEALER SAID HARNESS CONNECTOR WAS CRACKED. *TR
MY 4DR 1999 EXPLORER ROLLED OVER ONE TIME DUE TO A POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE GOODYEAR WRANGLER P235/75R 15 ON RIGHT REAR WHEN IT LOST TIRE PRESSURE WHEN I MADE A LEFT HAND TURN ON A DIRT ROAD CAUSING MINOR INJURIES AND TOTALED IT. I WAS CHARGED WITH ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD WHICH IS MY THREE YR OLD NEPHEW BECAUSE THIS TIRE CAUSED ME TO ROLL MY TRUCK - IT WAS A ACCIDENT BY DUNKLIN COUNTY IN KENNETT, MO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL IN DECEMBER OF 2007. IN MARCH OF 2008, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE MECHANIC HAD THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS BEFORE GIVING IT BACK TO THE CONTACT. TWO DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT WORKING. HE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART FOR THE REPAIR; THEREFORE, THEY DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL WITHOUT NOTIFYING HIM. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE LEFT LANE THEN THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE WET. THE TOW TRUCK TOWED THE VEHICLE HOME BECAUSE THE CRASH DESTROYED THE VEHICLE. AS OF DECEMBER 5, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A PREVIOUS ROLL OVER CRASH HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 150,000.
I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 1999 FORD EXPLORER DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. IT WORKED FINE UP UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AGO. IT STOPPED UNLOCKING WITH THE REMOTE THEN IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED UNLOCKING WITH THE KEY. I HAVE TO NOW REACH THROUGH MY PASSENGER DOOR TO OPEN MY DRIVERS DOOR. I AM AFRAID OF GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET RESCUED IS FOR SOMEONE TO OPEN MY DRIVERS DOOR TO GET ME OUT. IF IT IS LOCKED, AND IT NORMALLY IS BECAUSE IT LOCKS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN START TO DRIVE, NO ONE WOULD BE ABLE TO GET ME OUT. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN. I HAVE LOOKED IT UP ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND THAT QUITE A FEW PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE MY BACK DOOR HAS DONE THE SAME THING EXCEPT I CAN NOT GET IT TO OPEN AT ALL. I HAVE TWO VERY YOUNG KIDS AND I WOULD HATE FOR THEM TO GET TRAPPED INSIDE. I CAN'T OPEN IT FROM THE INSIDE BECAUSE THE CHILD SAFETY LOCK IS ON. ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE I AM HAVING IS BEING SCARED THAT I WILL BE ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE WHEN UNLOCKING THE DRIVERS SIDE AND MAYBE HAVING SOMEONE ELSE GET INTO THE CAR BEFORE I CAN GET IN AND LEAVE. I HAVE PURCHASED THE PART TO GET IT FIXED BUT I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX IT FOR ME. IT HAS YET TO GET FIXED BUT I DO PLAN ON GETTING IT DONE SOON. PLEASE HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR

O/D LIGHT STARED FLASHING AND IT WOULDN'T SHIFT OUT OF THE LOWER GEAR. PAID AROUND $1400 TO HAVE SOME BANDS REPLACED IN THE TRANS AND THE COMPUTER FLASHED. NOW HAS A HESITATION BETWEEN 30 AND 40 MPH. TRANSMISSION ISSUE. *TR

THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE; HOWEVER, THEY DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL. AS OF FEBRUARY 28, 2008, THE PARTS ARE STILL UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT IS A GREAT INCONVENIENCE FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL NOT TO WORK AND THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE THE PARTS BY NOW. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
1999 FORD EXPLORER CAUGHT FIRE. CONSUMER STATES THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR ABOUT 5 TO 6 WEEKS GETTING A NEW ENGINE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR, AND RECALL REPAIR DONE. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE A MONTH AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE. *KB
FAILURE TO PERFORM RECALL 05S28 (FUSE HARNESS FOR SPEED CONTROL FIRE PREVENTION) AS PER ORIGINAL RECALL LETTER TO CUSTOMERS. DEALER CLAIMS LACKS OF PARTS. ORIGINAL PART AVAILABILITY WAS TO BE NOV2007, THEN JAN2008, NOT IT IS MAY2008. FORD MOTOR HAS REQUESTED CUSTOMERS TO DISABLE CRUISE CONTROLS ON AFFECTED VEHICLE, BUT IT IS NOT MOVING PROMPTLY TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THIS RAISES QUESTION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT FORD MOTOR IS TRYING TO SAVE RECALL COST DUE TO ATTRITION OF AFFECTED VEHICLE OR TO CUSTOMERS GIVING UP ON THE PROCESS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT HIS BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE FRONT TIRES ON THE VEHICLE TO BEGIN CUPPING. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 114,000.

CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER MIRROR AND THE POWER WINDOW ALONG WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DON'T WORK ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER INFORMATION IS NOT AVAILABLE. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 36,700 MILES AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS AT 36,000 MILES. A FEW MONTHS A AGO MY SUV STARTED TO MAKE A TAPPING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS COLD. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AND IS NOW ALL THE TIME. I HAD THE SUV CHECKED BY A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN. AND HE WOULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE IT WAS TOO INVOLVED AND WAS NOT WORTH IT. PLUS IT WOULD COST ME $1500+. HE EVEN CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A 'PROBLEM' AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM WON'T EVEN TOUCH IT! I WAS TOLD BY A FORD REPRESENTATIVE TO 'DRIVE IT TIL IT DIES' AND I GOT MY MONEY OUT OF IT. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE WRONG WITH MY SUV, NOT EVEN RUST. OUR 1999 FORD EXPLORER IS PART OF A LARGE RECALL BECAUSE OF A FIRE HAZARD WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. WE ARE HAVING IT DISCONNECTED BUT THE PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE CRUISE CONTROL UNTIL AT LEAST JANUARY. SUBJECT: AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. 1999 FORD EXPLORER. TWICE DURING THE LAST 9 YEARS DEALER HAD TO REPLACE A HARNESS BECAUSE OF THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMING ON. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE RIDERS IN THE REAR SEATS ACCIDENTALLY HITTING THE EXPOSED CONNECTORS BELOW THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT WITH THEIR FEET. FORD MECHANIC TOLD ME THE EXPOSED CONNECTOR ASSY ARE NORMAL AND NO COVERS ARE NECESSARY. IS IT NORMAL FOR A REAR PASSENGER TO ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE CONNECTORS WITH THEIR FEET CAUSING THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON? DO NEWER EXPLORERS HAVE SAME TYPE OF EXPOSED AIR BAG CONNECTORS BELOW THE SEATS. LAST REPAIR COST 500.00. *TR

THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS HAS SURPASSED A REASONABLE TIME FOR THE REPAIR. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
