LOSS OF POWER STEERING. STARTED WITH A LOAD GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS, THE PROBLEM WORSENED TO THE POINT OF WHILE DRIVING, WE LOST STEERING CONTROL. AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CURRENT RECALL OF THIS EXACT ISSUE APPARENTLY DOES NOT APPLY TO OUR VIN NUMBER. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE RECALL MUST BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MORE VIN NUMBERS. HELP!
STARTED WITH A LOAD GRINDING NOISE WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. THIS PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED TO OCCASIONALLY LOSING POWER STEERING. LIKE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS, THE CURRENT RECALL DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VIN, ONLY MODELS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED JUST A FEW MONTHS PRIOR. THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE WAS NOT REMEDIED ON LATER MODELS (2013, 2014 AND EVEN 2015'S). SHAME ON FORD! THEY MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND EXTEND THE CURRENT RECALL OF THEIR FAULTY PART TO LATER EXPLORER MODELS.
WE RECENTLY BEGAN SMELLING A PUNGENT 'SULFUR' OR 'ROTTEN EGG' LIKE SMELL THAT COMES AND GOES IN THE INTERIOR CABIN OF OUR EXPLORER WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. TYPICALLY THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR WHILE OR JUST AFTER DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS/ACCELERATING. WE BELIEVE THIS IS IN LINE WITH OTHER INSTANCES PEOPLE HAVE HAD IN EXPLORERS OF POSSIBLE EXHAUST LEAKS INTO THE INTERIOR CABIN SPACE OF THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE 83,000 MILES ON OUR 2013 AWD 3.5L EXPLORER LIMITED. WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER UNDER CUSTOMER SERVICE SATISFACTION PROGRAM SERVICE # 17N03, BUT THEY STATED OUR SPECIFIC VIN DOES NOT APPLY TO THIS SERVICE & THUS WOULD NOT COVER THAT SERVICE FIX FOR THIS ISSUE.
I AM EXPERIENCING LACK OF POWER STEERING ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS AND CANNOT CONTROL MY STEERING. I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUES BUT MY VIN NO. IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH IT SO I AM BEING REFUSED HELP.
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN FROM PARKING SPOTS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING CAME ON. LOST ALL POWER STEERING.THE DEALERSHIP SAID ITS THE EPAS, ELECTRIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING.
FORD ANNOUNCED A POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT RECALL ON CERTAIN 2011-2013 FORD EXPLORER VEHICLES. MY 2013 HAD THE STEERING ASSIST FAULT GO OUT WHILE DRIVING TO WORK AND WHEN SEARCHING UNDER MY VIN, NO RECALL... TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO TELL ME THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH RECALL AND THAT IT'S GOING TO COST $2,200 TO FIX. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE CONSIDERING THE ISSUE AND IT BLOWS MY MIND THAT THE SAME EXACT ISSUE CAN OCCUR ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS A RECALL ISSUED AND MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE DOESN'T APPLY.

THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FAILURE APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AND A HALF AGO. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS-50964197. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000. *DT CONSUMER STATED REPAIR WAS DONE. I HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING LOSS. AT LOW SPEED, I RECEIVED A POWER STEERING FAULT AND LOST ALL POWER STEERING IN THE VEHICLE WHILE MAKING A TURN. LUCKILY I WAS NOT DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED WITH FAMILY IN CAR.
WINDSHIELD TRIM RANDOMLY FLEW OFF GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ST 70 MPH AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BEHIND ME.

LOUIS, MO 63127, (314) 843-4431) WAS NOTIFIED AND A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12017 (STEERING) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURE WAS THE SAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS GO OFF AT RANDOM ON THEIR OWN OR DON'T WORK AT ALL.
MY POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND THROW THE "POWER STEERING FAULT" ERROR MESSAGE ON MY DASH MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN EITHER I AM BACKING UP, STARTING TO TAKE OFF, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT DID IT ONE TIME ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE BUT NOW IT IS HAPPENING ALL THE TIME. AND I HAVE GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY THERE IS A RECALL ON ONLY CERTAIN MODELS BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THERE SHOULD BE SEVERAL MORE LISTED THE MORE I LOOK AT HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS I AM.
DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, THE WINDSHIELD DRIVERS SIDE MOLDING BECAME DETACHED, STARTED SHREDDING (CAUSING A DENT IN THE DOOR) AND BEFORE I COULD PULL OVER, FLEW OFF THE EXPLORER. PART OF THE MOLDING IS STILL ATTACHED (ABOUT 1/4 PIECE). VERY GLAD IT DID NOT HURT ANYONE, BUT WHAT IF A MOTORCYCLE WAS BEHIND ME? THIS DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL THROUGH FORD. WHEN I ORDERED MY PART, ESTIMATED AT #450.00, 3 OTHER PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THE SAME DAY, ACCORDING TO THE PARTS COUNTER PERSON.
THREE TIMES IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS I'VE HAD EITHER GASOLINE OR EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS ACCELERATING ON EITHER A CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY UPHILL AND THE A/C WAS ON.
DRIVING VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL STARTED MAKING SCRATCHING NOISE WHEN TURNING WHEEL. EVERY TIME WHEEL IS TURNED EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT IT MAKES SAME NOISE.
WATER LEAK IN BACK OF VEHICLE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURER'S WELDED SEAM. EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE COMES IN CONTACT WITH (I.E.: RAIN, CAR WASH) WATER LEAKS HEAVILY INTO THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE THIRD ROW SEATBELT HOLE. THE WATER LEAKS INTO VEHICLE WHEN PARKED AND WHEN DRIVING. LEAK WAS NOT NOTICED AT ONSET OR WHEN VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,700.
HAD PROBLEMS WITH POWER STEERING NOT WORKING OVER SEVERAL YEARS (VERY INTERMITTENT, MAYBE 1-2 TIMES/YR). RESTARTING THE VEHICLE TYPICALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN PERMANENTLY AT 125K MILES (AFTER GOING OUT TWICE THE DAY BEFORE). THIS PROBLEM ONLY OCCURRED ON VEHICLE STARTUP (IE. NEVER HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION). SAW ISSUES WITH OTHER FORD EXPLORERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE; HOWEVER, MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED.
GOODYEAR FORTERA HL TIRES SHOWED CRACKING AFTER ONLY 19,540 MILES ON 2013 FORD EXPLORER PURCHASED NEW IN JANUARY 2013. AFTER THIS DISCOVERY, I NEED TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES.TIRE NUMBERS ARE DOT 4B8T MANUFACTURED IN CANADA ON 3/2012.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CROSSROADS FORD (2333 WALNUT STREET, CARY, NORTH CAROLINA, 27518, (919) 335-4612) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING ASSEMBLY GEAR (PART NUMBER: DB5V3504NE) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
THE CAR WARNING SYSTEM WOULD ADVISE TO SHIFT INTO PARK AFTER TURNING CAR OFF. SHIFT LEVER APPEARED TO BE IN PARK, BUT WOULD HAVE TO BE MANIPULATED SEVERAL TIMES WITH CAR RUNNING TO GET MESSAGE TO DISAPPEAR. THIS FIRST STARTED HAPPENING WITH JUST 15769 MILES AND WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE 24 JAN 2014 WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. IT STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN AT 50043 MILES AND WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE ON 6 SEPT 2018. AGAIN, THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS NOT JUST AN INDICATING PROBLEM AND THAT THE CAR MY NOT BE FULLY IN PARK THEREBY CREATING AN INADVERTENT ROLL AWAY OR WORSE.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT LOWER SPEEDS, REQUIRES ME TO WORK HARDER TO TURN THE VEHICLE.
WHILE TRAVELING AT NORMAL RATE OF SPEED, MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON AT RANDOM, WORK ON THEIR OWN WHILE POSITIONED ON OFF OR NOT WORK AT ALL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (REUTHER FORD, 1325 MCNUTT ST, HERCULANEUM, MO 63048, (636) 931-9393) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRACKETS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE WAS FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AS THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX 55 MPH ON A CITY HWY & VEHICLE SLOWED DRAMATICALLY & IDLED ROUGHLY. AFTER TURNING IT OFF & LETTING IT SIT FOR A MINUTE IT RESTARTED AND SEEMED OK. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO CHECK & THEY CHECKED & SAID IT THREW A CODE P2111 & THEY ISOLATED IT TO A STUCK THROTTLE BODY. THEY REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND CLEARED THE CODE.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING BOTH WHEN IN MOTON ON A STREET (TWICE)AND WHEN FIRST TURNING ON IGNITION IN DRIVEWAY. OCCURED THREE TIMES IN ONE WEEK.

THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000. *DT *JB
I STARTED THE VEHICLE, PUT IT IN REVERSE, I DID NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE ONLY ENGAGED THE TRANSMISSION TO REVERSE AT THAT TIME A CHIME WENT OFF AND THE VEHICLE NOTIFIED ME THAT THERE WAS A POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT.I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. WENT INSIDE TO LOOK ON INTERNET TO SEE POSSIBLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THERE IS A RECALL FROM FORD FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, HOWEVER MY VEHICLES VIN NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH THE RECALLED VEHICLES SUNRISE FORD FORT PIERCE FL STATED THEY PROBABLY COULD NOT FIND THE ERROR UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WHILE I AM DRIVING
LOSS OF POWER STEERING. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE SERVICE POWER STEERING AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND MANUAL STEERING WAS NOT POSSIBLE. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD FALL UNDER THE POWER STEERING RECALL.
WHEN IT RAINS, WATER POURS IN FROM DRIVER SIDE 3RD ROW SEAT BELT. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON FORD EXPLORERS DUE TO POOR WELDING ISSUES, YET NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT FUTURE MOLD AND MILDEW ISSUES IN THE CAR. I DRIVE AROUND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN AND DO NOT WANT ANY HEALTH ISSUES BECAUSE OF THIS FLAW. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ISSUE A RECALL SO IT CAN BE FIXED. I DO NOT HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THEIR WELDING MISTAKES.

In October of 2018 while driving on the Interstate, I heard a noise in the area of the passenger windshield. I slowed down as I looked at the windshield and the pillar trim came loose and flew off the car. Fortunately, there was no one behind me and it went into the ditch at the side of the highway. I pulled off as soon as I could and checked the driver side trim, it seemed to be loose as well. I was able to secure it and went to my local dealership where they ordered replacement parts. The repair was $506.54. The same thing happened in December of 2021. So now I have paid twice to have this repair made which, in my opinion, should be a recall. I believe a consumer has a reasonable expectation that parts should remain on the vehicle. Yes, anyone could be hit and harmed by flying car parts. The problem was inspected and repaired by the Don Vance Ford Dealership (both times). There was no warning other that a rattling noise as the pieces came loose.
I WAS DRIVING ON A TOLL ROAD, STARTED TO NOTICE MY STEERING WHEEL BECOMING TIGHT, MY SERVICE POWER STEERING ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON. I PROCEEDED TO EXIT AND WHEN I TURNED MY WHEEL LOCKED UP AND MY VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO FORD SERVICE CENTER. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IT WAS LOCKED UP. I AM WAITING FOR DIAGNOSTIC BUT DEALER HS ALREADY STATED MY VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN RECALL. CONTRARY TONWAIT YOU HAVE POSTED IN THIS SITE MY YEAR MAKE MODEL HAS BEEN RECALLED. PLEASE ADVISE MY CARE IS AT 66000 MILES AND THIS IS A KNOW DEFECT . SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH A THE REPORTS AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME THING COMING INTO YOUR WEB SITE .
I WAS DRIVING ONE DAY IN 8/2018 AND I BEGAN HEARING THIS CLICKING SOUND AND THEN MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO TURN IF I WAS AT A LOW RATE OR SPEED. I TRIED BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND MY STEERING WHEEL JUST LOCKED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC DONE THAT COST $130.00 TO BE TOLD THAT MY CAR NEED A POWER STEERING RACK AND MY ESTIMATE WAS FOR $2500.00. MY TOTAL CAME TO $2424.05 AFTER I ALSO NEED A BATTERY. THE COST FOR THIS PART IS CRAZY $1564.92. THIS PROBLEM SHOWS THAT THEY RECALLED IT BEFORE AND NOW THEY DON'T WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT FOR MY CAR. IT A 2013 FORD EXPLORER AND I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAITS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE.
I WAS DRIVING MY WIFE'S VEHICLE WHEN THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I WAS DRIVING ON A 45 MPH ROAD HEADED TOWARDS THE THRUWAY. LUCKILY I HAD TIME TO AVOID THE ON-RAMP AND PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. CALLED MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HAD TO DRIVE 15 MIN SO HE COULD SCAN FOR CODES, IT WAS A LONG LIST. HE CLEARED THEM AND I DROVE IT HOME,IT SEEMED OK. MY 2013 EXPLORER IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST AT THIS TIME.

IN ADDITION, THE SHIFT TO PARK WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO ENGAGE IN PARK, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TURNED ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CAPITOL FORD LINCOLN LLC (4490 CERRILLOS RD, SANTA FE, NM 87507, (800) 718-5855) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SAYING "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE POWER STEERING AND IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. NOTICED LEAK INTO SPARE TIRE WELL YEARS AGO AND JONES FORD IN N. CHARLESTON COULD NOT FIND A LEAK. 8/13/2018 TOOK OUR VEHICLE IN FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AND FOUND THE WATER POURS DOWN THE THIRD ROW SEATBELTS ANYTIME IT RAINS. THERE IS NOW MOLD IN THE CARPETED AREA BELOW THE 3RD ROW SEATS. THE LEAK HAPPENS WHILE THE CAR IS STATIONARY, DRIVING, ANYTIME IT IS RAINING.
'DOOR AJAR' STAYS ON CAUSING THE DOOR LOCKS TO UNLOCK WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING. A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF CHILDREN ARE IN CAR.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT AROUND 65/70MPH WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR SHUT DOWN. THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND THE DASH SAID TO "CHECK MANUAL" AND ALL POWER WAS LOST IN THE CAR. IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. I WAS IN THE FAST LANE DURING THE MORNING COMMUTE AND MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND I HAD TO SAFELY NAVIGATE GETTING OVER 6 LANES OF TRAFFIC. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS INJURED BECAUSE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER TODAY AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A DEFECTIVE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. I WAS TOLD IT IS NOT COVERED BY THE FORD EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH SHOULD COVER IT FOR 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. I CALLED FORD AND THEY ALSO TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED. THIS IS CONTRARY TO ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE AND THE AGREEMENT FORD REACHED WITH THE NHTSA.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING CONTROL RESULTING IN HAVING TO MANUALLY STEER THE VEHICLE. WARNING LIGHTS FOR SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW, SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC, SERVICE STABILITY CONTROL ALL CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER, DIAGNOSED AS EPAS STEERING RACK AS IT IS AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM. WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL WHICH RESULTS IN A $2000 REPAIR, REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PART WITH THE SAME PART THAT IS SUBJECT TO FAURE AGAIN.
TAKATA RECALL MY NAME IS [XXX], I OWN A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST LIGHT SHOWED UP ON THE MESSAGE BOARD RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I RESEARCHED RECALLS AND FOUND THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS IN 2011- 2013. I TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE UNDER RECALL. MY COMPLAINT IS IF FORD KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS THEN WHY WEREN'T THEY ALL FIXED. I BROUGHT MINE USED AND WAS UNAWARE OF A RECALL. THERE WAS AND STILL IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES APPARENTLY. EVENTUALLY SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE SERIOUSLY HURT WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I ENTER THE HIGHWAY FROM AN ON-RAMP AND I SLIGHTLY TAP THE BREAK TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC. I THEN FEEL THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY ACCELERATING. I SEE MY RPMS ARE HIGH. I NOTICEL THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FULLY ENGAGED TO THE FLOOR. I TAP IT SEVERAL TIMES TO DISENGAGE WITH NO SUCCESS. I HAD TO USE MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO TRY TO CONTROL MY SPEED AND USE MY RIGHT FOOT TO GET UNDER THE PEDAL TO LIFT IT. I SUCCESFULLY WEDGED MY FOOT UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND IT RELEASED, RETURNING TO NORMAL POSITION.
10-15 MINUTES AFTER COMMUTING ON THE SUN COAST PARKWAY IN FLORIDA, I EXPERIENCED DOUBLE VISION, BECAME UNABLE TO THINK CLEARLY OR MAKE DECISIONS (IE: TO PULL OVER AND CALL FOR HELP), AND HIT NUMEROUS UPRIGHT, RUBBER BARRIERS WHICH SEPARATE THE EXPRESS LANE FROM THE OTHER LANES OF TRAFFIC, AS WELL AS EITHER A TEMPORARY CONCRETE DIVIDER OR METAL RAIL. MUCH OF THE FOLLOWING 24 HOURS AFTER MY ACCIDENT ARE FOGGY OR I DO NOT REMEMBER AT ALL. AFTER 2 FULL NEUROLOGICAL WORK-UPS, I STILL HAVE NO DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS. RECENTLY, I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FOR POSSIBLE EXHAUST ISSUES IN FORD EXPLORERS. MY SUV SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AND HAS SINCE BEEN REPAIRED.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW FROM THE FORD DEALER IN 2013. FIRST ISSUE, FRONT EDGE OF HOOD THE PAINT HAS BEEN BUBBLING AND COMING OFF. RUST IS UNDERNEATH. FORD REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. SECOND ISSUE AND MOST IMPORTANT, WE HAVE BEEN LOSING THE POWER STEERING FUNCTION WHILE DRIVING, THIS HAS CAUSED ERRATIC STEERING AS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SEEMS TO TURN ON AND OFF. THE STEERING WILL BIND AND WHEN YOU TRY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND OVER COMPENSATE AND THE ELECTRIC STEERING RE-ENGAGES, I'M ALL OVER THE ROAD. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE OTHER THAN FIX IT FOR $1900-$2300.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
